Romney camp dismisses Clinton as 'good soldier'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Despite Bill Clinton's rousing defense of President Obama last night at the Democratic National Convention, the Romney campaign is doubling down on trying to use the former president to its advantage.

In a new video, the campaign dismisses Clinton's endorsement of Obama now as merely him being a "good soldier." It then cuts to video from the hotly contested 2008 primary battle between Hillary Clinton -- Bill's wife -- and Obama, when Clinton said, "Give me a break. This whole thing's the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

Recommended: Four challenges for Obama

It's unclear where or if the ad is running. The campaign did not immediately respond to an email on where the ad may run and rarely shares any guidance on its TV strategy. If it does run, it would be the first TV ad for the Romney campaign in more than a week and comes on the heels of the Romney campaign's $4.5 million TV buy made today and first reported by First Read.

The Romney campaign has been invoking Clinton on the campaign trail and in advertising as a way to draw a wedge between the president and moderate Democratic voters, particularly in the industrial Midwest.

Slideshow: Democratic National Convention

But by elevating Clinton and turning him into a fair arbiter, the Romney campaign took a big risk. And last night, Clinton showed he can speak for himself, clearly.

Here's the script of the ad:

ANNOUNCER: As the economy gets worse, Barack Obama calls on Bill Clinton to help his failing campaign.

CLINTON FROM OBAMA TV AD: “It’s about which candidate is more likely to return us to full employment.

ANNOUNCER: He’s a good soldier helping his party’s president. But what did Bill Clinton say about Barack Obama in 2008.

CLINTON FROM 2008: “Give me a break. This whole thing’s the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen.”

ANNOUNCER: 23 million Americans struggling for work. The middle class falls further behind.

CLINTON VOICE FROM 2008: Give me a break. I’m Mitt Romney, and I approve this message.

President Clinton told the truth, and that is hard for Rinse and the RomneyRyan Voucher Brigade.

President Clinton explained how President Obama laid the foundations for a recovery that will last, and that we will feel it ourselves in the next four years if we stay the course. President's has paved the way for a more energetic, balanced, successful economy and shared prosperity.

President Clinton said our President was and is still, committed to compromise, despite GOP's open and devout obstruction to his recovery proposals and 2 milion jobs in the American Jobs Act.

President Clinton reminded us that President Obama is far more committed to deficit reduction than the Republican party. The RyanRomney budget would put $10 trillion on the deficit, while giving a new $5 Trillion tax break to the very wealthiest. RyanRomney would also make the Bush tax cuts permanent.

ON MEDICARE President Clinton tells it the way it is: "Here's what really happened....President Obama and the Democrats didn't weaken Medicare, they strengthened it."

Democrats put years on Medicare's life, while RomneyRyan would END it in 2016.

The RomneyRyan policies are tailor-made for the super-rich Adelson few.....versus what the 99% of Americans need to grow and thrive in a competitve global economy, while recovering from the most devastating recession in over half a century.

Check out what he told this Vietnam veteran (and by all means, hang around for after his handlers hustle him off to another person). Too bad he never learned about not judging a book by its cover.....

From the article: "...by elevating Clinton and turning him into a fair arbiter, the Romney campaign took a big risk. And last night, Clinton showed he can speak for himself, clearly. "

And by trying to diminish Clinton's successful appearance at the Democratic Convention, Romney is obviously speaking less clearly...and far less rationally...than Clinton himself.

Yet another FAIL in the Romney column.

Clinton showed he can speak for himself, clearly.

This line should be edited. Here's what it should say: Clinton showed he can speak about himself, clearly.

When doesn't Clinton speak about himself... He's not nearly the narcissist that Obama is, but he runs a close second.

I know that Obama showed up after the speech to remind everyone that it was Obama running for president and not Clinton. Amazing how the Obama campaign was worried that Clinton would steal Obama's faux thunder. Obama doesn't have to worry about Clinton... what Obama needs to worry about is the electorate... and how dissatisfied they are with unemployment, national debt, and overall economic conditions of this nation. Not to mention the price of gasoline, price of food and the still very low values of property that are under water.

Nice to see at least one GNOPER is capable of recognizing the truth;

Appearing on CNN shortly after Clinton finished, Alex Castellanos, a longtime cable commentator and former aide to Mitt Romney, spoke in awe of the 42nd president's address.

"I would recommend to my friend Paul [Begala] here, tonight when everybody leaves, lock the doors. You don't have to come back tomorrow. This convention is done," Castellanos said. "This will be the moment that probably reelected Barack Obama

I dunno ... maybe Romney can stand on his own feet and isn't desperate to bring in a guy from the last century, a guy that pretty much was the antithesis of Obama.

Clinton lowered the capital gains from 28% to 20% .... Obama wants to raise the capital gains tax along with other taxes.

Clinton lowered spending as a percentage of GDP .... Obama has exploded it to non-WW II record levels.

Clinton promoted trade agreements .... Obama does nothing after belatedly signing 3 agreements put together by Bush. Meanwhile ... China, the soon to be number 1 economy in the world, has signed 15 and is negotiating 20 more.

Clinton dropped national healthcare ... Obama crammed it down our throats against the majority of American's approval.

Clinton de-regulated ... Obama is an uber regulator - most regulations and costs to the economy in history.

How many do you want .... and how do these guys even compare for anyone with a functionin brain stem?

How come Obama has to trot out the good soldier on everything from commercials on bin Laden to the Keynote address.

Bob: where should we start?
1) Obama wants to raise the tax BACK to the rates that Clinton had them ('remember when the economy was gangbusters').
2) Why do you think that spending to try to turn around the economy destroyed by his predecessor is not warranted? What did you want him to do? Stop spending money which would suck even more $ out of the economy? What economist thinks that makes any sense (don't say Hannity).
3) So Obama signs trade agreements but this isn't good enough? Literally you made the point of bringing up the agreements he signed and are arguing that he didn't "do anything". That seems contradictory.
4) Umm... Obama ran on a platform of doing the healthcare reform. If he HADN'T passed the plan you would be arguing he didn't keep a promise. What do you think people were voting for when they elected him? For him to NOT fix healthcare???
5) Regulations aren't good for the economy huh? So its total coincidence that just a short time after the Glass-Steagall repeal the economy goes into another depression? GTFO.
Look if you are not proud of your past presidents we understand: we're not proud that you got them elected in the first place. But don't argue that our presidents can't show up and support our current administration when you're party is running SCARED from your past presidents. SCARED.

the draft dodging is true for Romney and GWB. You can also add possible AWOL (conveniently missing specific documents), DUI and arrest for what was later changed to "misuse of medicine" to GWB resume

Nice try with the "women molesting" because since you have no proof of that, it could be considered libel. If you are referring to the BJ, I will take a president who gets some action on the side over one that starts wars and sends thousands of Americans to die in a war that was based on lies, misinformation, manipulation and greed.

What a day for Democrats? Just ask one and the Libspeak=Horsesh!t will fly.

A synopsis of yesterday:

Odumbo cancels the stadium because he can't fill seats. They had been saying "rain or shine" all week, but by yesterday it was clear it would really look bad for it to be half empty. Today's Weather: NO CHANCE OF RAIN. Empty seats..........Wasn't Clint prophetic.

They have to change their real beliefs and go back and add GOD and Jeruselum to the platform to pander to the majority of Americans that disagreed. They couildn't get a 2/3 majority to agree, so the poor guy couldn't figure it out. So he takes the vote 3 times. After the obvious no vote, he has to say "Ayes Win". Then they boo GOD!! And all the disagreeing Americans are watching, including me. I bet you anything they laughed their a$$ off just like I did.

Sandra "Slut" Fluke. No explanation needed. I think she had a Bill Clinton stain on her dress. Who needs birth control for that?

Elizabeth Warren. YAWN.

Slick Willie? Spent a good bit of the too long speech explaining why Odumbo is a failure. Most of the speech was about how much better a President he was than Obozo. I loved the way he would point his finger like he did when he said "I did not have sex with that woman." And there was just as much truth in what he said as there was then. You gotta know that the arrogant POS potus was totally pissed standing and waiting behind the curtain for the blowhard to stop blowing BS. And then Clinton looks like he's going to puke when Odumbo hugs him. Maybe the stank got him. HAHAHAHAHOHOHOHOHAHAHAHA.

OK now. The Libs love all this, as is their custom of ignoring the obvious. But who can ignore that "the party of women" played a tape of woman murdering Ted Kennedy and then bring out as their biggest speaker stained dress & cigar Bill Clinton to represent them. They are so stupid they see no problem with this. Will, normal Americans have a problem with it and, again, are laughing their a$$es off at your POS messiah and even more at you, the moron Libs.

What kind of political party boos GOD and cheers Bill Clinton?

NO MORE YEARS. THE END OF AN ERROR.

Obama has exploded it to non-WW II record levels.

That's some questionable wording there, Bob. Under Obama, the percentage by which government spending has increased with respect to GDP (and adjusted for inflation) is the lowest since Eisenhower. Obama hasn't exploded anything -- if anything, he stopped the explosion. Under Clinton, the inflation-adjusted growth of government spending as a percentage of GDP was 1.5%, then under Bush it skyrocketed to 5.9% (only second to LBJ's 6.3% as far as post-WWII presidencies goes), and under Obama, it's -0.1%. That means that, when you account for inflation and GDP growth, Obama has actually DECREASED how much the government spends as a percentage of GDP -- again, something no president had been able to accomplish since Eisenhower, let alone in the face of the greatest downturn since the Great Depression.

So, thanks for bringing that up. In attempting to make Obama look bad, you've actually invited me to bring up some numbers that benefit him.

Myth: busted.

One BIG issue everyone seems to be missing is, President Obama had to RE-BUILD the foundation of the country before he could work on rebuilding our economy and jobs. Remember W had the USA in the whole, financially, politically and in job creation. He started a war, we could not afford, he continued to deregulate banks, Big oil and Wall street. He continued to give his BFFs tax breaks while taking away taxes from our cities and states. In the mean while, he threw those cities and states under the bus by decreasing monies to help with education, poverty, infrastructure and the list goes on.

I do not understand how anyone could blame President Obama for our current economy or joblessness. Like I said, he had to fill the huge hole (deficit) before he could start a sound foundation, in which to rebuild, our country and our future.

President Obama has had to deal with the party of "No" and people who have only one agenda. In order for anyone to make a educated decision, on who to vote for in November, one has to look at all the facts. And that means looking closely at Mitt Romney, as well.

I cringe at the thought of Mitt winning the election but I have educated myself on his resume. He fails across the board, regarding his concerns for his fellow man. He wants to be president, no matter how much it costs or who get hurt.

Lastly, I worked at a phone bank this week to see what my neighbors are thinking and to get their input regarding the up coming election. I was astounded by the people who said they were NOT going to vote at all! As an American who has lost family or had family fight in every war, since the Revolutionary war, I would dishonor those who fought and those who gave their lives, for the freedom to vote.

If you do not vote, then you do not have the right, to complain about the future of the United States.

I found it funny the Romney campaign refers to Obama's campaign as failing... It's obviously working when your opponent takes quotes out of context and refuses to run a campaign with fact checkers.

I cannot wait for the national debates and the results in the polls.

At their convention, Republicans hide their former presidents. George W. Bush was nowhere to be seen and not even mentioned. They act like he never existed. Republicans don’t want to remind the nation of their former president. Bill Clinton takes center stage in prime time at the Democratic convention. The reasoning is simple. If Bill Clinton could run again, he would win in a landslide. If George W. Bush could run again, he would have a hard time carrying Texas.

Kharson, I sign my check on the front and back. If you do not endorse it, you cannot cash it. Are you still trotting out that only the poor want Obama? I own a business and I know from 38 years of owning a business, that a Democrat in the White House is way better for my business than having a Republican in the White House.

That's because Democrats try to make life better for the middle class and the poor and they happen to be most of my customers. The Republicans like to help those at the top even though they don't need any help. They are doing just fine and not many of them are anyone's customers except for yacht builders and mansion builders and Mercedes, BMW, Cartier.

JERRY40YEARDEMOCRAT you lose all credibility with your profile picture unless that's Michele and you in the picture. You have nothing in your argument but name calling. You lost already, it happens when you don't have any original thoughts.

As for Fluke, if insurance has to pay for your lack of prowess (unless your on top of your sister (wait your turn the line is around the corner)), Viagra, then yes, insurance should cover contraception (too bad your mother didn't understand this before you were born)

Your obviously a troll, apologies to real trolls. BTW, every down the middle political commentator has said that both Michele and Clinton's speeches were better than anything put forth by the GOP. No surprise there.

Fine. Thank you, and that should have been the end of the story.

But nooooooo, Romney and his henchmen are so jealous they're literally trying to twist those words all around and make a really big stink out of a simple observation one world leader said about another.

Mitt Robme and the Republicans are furious and why, because the same could NOT be said about Robme.

Hmmm! Sounds like "sauce for the gander" time to me!

I suggest the Democrats simply replay comments made about Mr. Romney by ANY of the other Republican candidates during the primaries.

And, unlike Mr. Romney's tactic, the quotes would not need to be taken out of context!

Then, instead of "doubling down," Mr. Romney will, most likely, be "doubling over."

    Hey George,

Clinton speaks truth. Clinton produced our nation's only balanced budgets since 1960 and according to my world atlas he did four of them. Bush took those surpluses and turned them to deficits giving money to the rich who did not need it, starting two wars, passing an unfunded prescription drug plan, ignoring the impending housing crisis, ditto the financial crisis.

You can mit pick, but I prefer to put our nation's best interests and the truth above republican lies and private indiscretions. By the way, what was Newt doing with his office staffer back in 1997 while his second wife who he was married to was battling disease? I saw this blonde haired former mistress sharing lines with him in Tampa last week. She is now his 3rd wife and his ex is pretty outspoken about it.

DNC convention news: Democrats who accuse Republicans of looking backward dredge up Bill "I did not have sex with that woman" Clinton from the past to suggest his marginal success can be repeated by ObaMao in the future. In other news, Wasserman-Schultz gets caught in another flagrant lie, and the demos pull God and Jerusalem from the platform (of course no one knows how or why that happened) and then reinsert same to the obvious objection of the majority who were then proclaimed to be 2/3 in agreement. Of course, when the convention closes and the lights go out, when the bands stop playing, the vital statistics of a horribly failed presidency will still be the same, 44 months of unemployment over 8%, a $16 trillion national debt, a $3,400 per family decline in income, a failed stimulus program, no approved budgets, uncontrolled illegal immigration, costly security leaks, overt denial that medicare is going broke and no plan to ever balance the budget.

Being Canadian I probably have no right to comment on this election because I am not living the difficult lives that you people are living. So I will just speak on what I have been following with Romney speaking and Obama speaking as well as Bill Clinton's speech last night. The problem I have is I cant listen to Romney speak because he truly creeps me out. He hides behind religion and doesnt know the first thing about it - what I have felt is that he seeks out what would be popular to do and then he changes his course midstream to pick up on those voters. After the mass murder I saw him interviewed about the fact that he once signed a bill for stronger gun control and when asked about this he hummed and hawed and said something stupid in reply. Of course that isnt popular right now - you dont campaign on gun control so he changes his theory on that and lies to the people. In layman's terms he just comes across as *stupid*. Just my opinion. As for Obama I was worried when he got in not because I didnt like him or his ideas - I felt he was too inexperienced for the job. And that inexperience has showed at times for sure. But he was handed a mess to clean up and the people wanted him to clean it up in 6 months and if not - let's go back to the other guys. We do that here too and we always pay for that decision. I feel that if Romney gets in you people are in big trouble - but if Obama gets in you stand a chance. He has had 4 years of experience and tough decisions and I think you will see change in the next 4 years cause he has a handle on things now. As for Bill Clinton last night I thought he blew it out of the water - especially because he backed what he was saying with *facts*. I didnt like Clinton as a person or a President but I always liked listening to him talk - in that department he has a silver tongue. But last night he was right on target and he cleared up a lot of things I didnt understand about your country and what you were going to go through if Romney got in. And again he backed it with facts and figures. He didnt talk above me - he talked to me and I heard him loud and clear. Yes it appears that Obama has done nothing in the last 4 years because 4 years isnt enough to solve the problems (2 wars for one thing) he was dealt when he took office. I believe like Clinton that the next 4 years will show more and more progress. With Romney whom I cant even listen to I couldnt make that prediction. If you cant believe your President then who can you believe. I do believe that Obama is for the middle class and Romney if for the rich so of course the rich will flourish under his leadership. Clinton set the tone and the facts for Obama tonight - I just hope Obama goes with it and takes it home. Again - these are just my opinions and no way am I saying what is the right thing for your people to do.

I have the same gut feeling about Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan. They are like a car saleman who would tell you that the car you are looking at can do 39 MPG and go 250 MPH when the car sticker states 29 MPG (mis-stated the fact) and when you look at the speedometer, (like fact checking) tops at 200 MPH.

SHar, I agree with your assessment. I, for one, appreciate the unbiased opinion of a bystander who is not involved.

I have a huge problem with "Give the rich people more money and trust them to take care of the others." They didn't get their vast wealth by looking out for others' well being....

A better formula, which makes more sense, is to put a little more money into the consumers' pockets, (the poor and middle class.) Their spending will have a more direct positive effect on our economy.

I work in an auto repair shop. In the past 10 years, the shop labor rate has risen from $65.00 an hour to $106.00 an hour. My pay during that 10 year span has risen $1.00 per flag hour. So, the big guy gets $40.00 more per hour and the little guy gets $1.00 per hour. In my opinion, this is similar to what Mitt Romney is trying to sell us all, but on a much larger scale....

The Washington Post points out a few stats:

Median household income fell 4.8%, to $50,964 from June 2009 to June 2012.

Incomes have dropped more since the start of the recovery than they did during the recession itself. (Recession was from December 2007 to June 2009.)

Median income is 7.2% below the December 2007 level. (8.1% below the January 2002 level.)

Households headed by blacks saw their median income drop by 11.1% over the last 3 years.

Households headed by Hispanics saw their median income drop by 4.1% over the last 3 years.

Households led by the self-employed saw their median income drop 9.4% over the past 3 years.

Median net worth of families “plunged” by 39% in 3 years, from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010.

Unemployment was at 8.3% in July, marking 42 straight months of unemployment over 8%.

5.2 million people, or about 40% of the unemployed – had been out of work for more than six months.

8.2 million were working part-time because they could not find full-time employment.

From An AP article checking claims made by the administration

Pelosi: "Under President Obama, we've gone from losing 800,000 jobs a month to adding 4.5 million private sector jobs over the last 29 months."

Steve Westly, former California state controller and chief financial officer: "President Obama understands that future. He knows that this election is about creating jobs today. That's why he's helped create 4.5 million of them, growing the economy from the middle out, not the top down."

The facts: While that figure has become a White House talking point, it's only part of the story. It's a selective number that refers just to private sector jobs created in the last 29 months, from the trough of the recession through July. Governments — especially state and local ones — have continued shedding jobs. And the claim ignores job losses during Obama's term before the employment picture bottomed out.

The economy lost 8.8 million jobs from the time employment peaked in January 2008 until it hit bottom in February 2010. Between then and this July — the most recent month for which there are figures — just 4 million jobs have been recovered. Never since World War II has the economy been so slow to recover all the jobs lost in a downturn.

I will admit it is better than zero but lets call them what they are. Recovered jobs. But I guess we wouldn't want to do that. Doesn't sound quite as praise worthy as created. 300,000 were all that have been created (ones that didn't exist in the first place). (CNN Fact Check)

I bet those working the 300,000 jobs could care less if you call them created or saved, makes no difference to me, it still means that many more people actually have jobs than would have had if we had kept letting the republicans drive the truck in reverse (R). Not sure why so many are having a hard time, guess they never had a hard time before. In the 80's life for working/middle class folks was pretty awful, we remember that, we know this is not nearly as bad for us as the 80's was, and the big lesson we learned? Trickle down does not work for anybody except those getting to trickle. The rest of us just feel wet and stained. No R what so ever, No Romney/No Ryan/ No Republicans - no thank you, I don't think I enjoy what trickles down on my working/middle class family enough to go back to the 80's, thanks for asking. The answer is still NO R.

Jobs are not being created. Some businesses have no choice but to hire people... even if it hurts their bottom line... they must look to the future and a lot of them have held out as long as they could in hiring. How is this attributed to Obama?

Most liberals are under a false illusion about job creation... they will grasp at any straw to hold on to their messiah...

Here's a fact liberals seem to overlook... it takes 250,000 additional jobs per month to keep up with population growth. Since it appears there's job growth, let's apply it to the standard of 250,000 per month...

40 months at 250,000 per month = 10 million jobs

    Obama's additional jobs = 4,500,000

Seems Obama is coming up short 5,500,000... and that is less than 50%... where I come from, 50% is still failing. So all you liberals must believe in failure... no excuses.

One other thing... how come liberals never include the loss of state and local government jobs in their numbers? I know the reason... it would reduce the 4,500,000 number to a whole lot less...

Liberals - the masters of illusion!

"The vast uncertainties created by Obamacare create a special problem. If employers knew that Obamacare would add $1,000 to their costs of hiring an employee, then they could simply reduce the salaries they offer by $1,000 and start hiring.

But, since it will take years to create all the regulations required to carry out Obamacare, employers today don't know whether the Obamacare costs that will hit them down the road will be $500 per employee or $5,000 per employee. Even businesses that have record amounts of cash on hand are reluctant to gamble it by expanding their hiring under these conditions.

Many businesses work their existing employees overtime or hire temporary workers, rather than get stuck with unknown and unknowable costs for expanding their permanent work force.

As unusual as 9 percent unemployment rates may seem to the current generation of Americans, unemployment rates stayed in double digits for months and years on end during the 1930s. Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration followed policies very similar to those of the Obama administration today. He also got away with it politically by blaming his predecessor." - Thomas Sowell

Let's look at your numbers and extend your logic, Brian. Using YOUR premises and YOUR numbers, then before the recession ended, the economic policies of the prior Republican administration was the source of losing 750,000 plus the 250,000 additional jobs a month to keep up with population growth.

So I guess you are now telling us that the prior Republican administration was responsible for 1 million job losses per month instead of "only" 750K?

The state unemployment rate was 1.5 percentage points higher than the national rate for the month. The unemployment rate for New Jersey in July 2012 is at a new high."

For the conservatives on this board, I understand what you're trying to imply: that Obama isn't doing his job because the economy is not recovering fast enough. But i have two questions for you that I'd seriously like you to address:

    1) I thought the government doesn't produce jobs? I mean I've been told for years that the government should just get out of the way and then jobs would come. If that's the case then why do you keep pointing to the economy that you say the government doesn't and can't fix?

    2) Do you really believe that the economy which crashed before he took office would be recovered now with a republican in the white house? Do you really think that the job losses which come from the current recession are attributable to something that Obama did? I seriously would like you opinions on this. No judgement. Just asking. I'll wait to see some replies.

Harley Chic, Why don't you ask all those "job creators" that got all those tax cuts. Somehow they managed to increase their wealth--I wonder how--maybe by cutting peoples salaries, making them pay more and more for their benefits (which lowers their take home pay).

BrianB asked why democrats don't state and local government jobs losses. There are 2 reasons for this

a)because they are talking about private sector jobs (remember republicans say government jobs don't count it is the private sector that counts)

      b) because it is the republican policies that have shed those jobs. If the republicans (like all leaders in the past republican and democrat alike) had increased public sector jobs during the worst recession since the great depression or at least kept those jobs the unemployment rate would be much lower and the economy would be in much better shape (more taxes collected and money in middle class family pockets being used which would stimulate the economy)

With regard to uncertainty over taxes-I saw an interiew with Marc Cuban, he said when deciding whether to invest in something or not, taxes never even enter the conversation. So stop with your BS, If the demand is there for your product or service then you will invest in your business. Taxes are part of your operating expenses. But NO ONE will invest in something that the people have no interest in, that would be like opening a steakhouse in India (in case you didn't know cows are sacred there)

You realize the majority of the debt run up you blame Obama for was for bills that were lying in wait to be paid from under the Bush administration. 2 un paid wars and losing 500k jobs a month while falling into a depression. So Obama needed to pay the bills left for him( even though the GOP would have rather let the country go bankrupt then pay the bills there party racked up) and to stop the bleeding of 500k job loss a month money was spent and the bills left for hi were paid. Like e throwing a big party at your house, pissing on your rug and destroying all your furniture then you get mad at the person who you have to pay to fix it while not giving me an ounce of blame. Cause i dipped out and left without paying for my party, in this case 2 wars and a tax break to the rich along with the nice loophole in prescription benefitbills not paid for

Harley Chic... I wouldn't be so quick to claim the Democrats as the biggest liars, nor would I rely too heavily on the truthfulness of Team Romney.

      Look at these two pages:

      Mitt Romney's Truth: http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitt-romney/

      Barack Obama's Truth: http://www.politifact.com/personalities/barack-obama/

70% of the time, Romney is telling us Half Truths to flat out lies. 70% of the TIME!

Obama lies too, but quite a bit less than Romney: 53% of Obama's statements are half truths to flat out lies.

47% of the words coming out of Obama's mouth is truthful. Close to half the time. 30% of the words coming out of Romney's mouth are truths.

We have a president who's truthful with us 50% of the time. Why would we "try our luck" and put an untested guy into the most powerful office in the world who tells the truth less than a third of the time while he's trying to win the job?

Most politicians lie. Romney takes lying to a whole new level. And Ryan? 72% of whatever he says is a half truth to an outright "pants on fire" lie. I think you better recheck your premises. You're sounding incredibly uninformed and unintelligent.

Let's flush this Romney/Ryan turd before they clog our pipes with their lies.

"...Corporate takeover firms like Mr. Romney’s Bain Capital were 'vultures' that pick struggling companies clean and leave local communities to pick up the pieces" - Republican Governor of Texas - Rick Perry

"I've been Romney-boated.... Somebody who will lie to you to get to be president, will lie to you when they are president." - Former Republican Speaker of the House - Newt Gingrich

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there. If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future." - Republican Senator - Rick Santorum

“I remain very very skeptical of hearing anything that will change the course of history. There was no talk of the Federal Reserve. One of the engines of spending is militarism and empire and he enhanced <it>. He was pushing it.” - Texas Republican Representative - Ron Paul

"...The American people probably aren’t going to fall in love with Mitt Romney. I’ll tell you this: 95 percent of the people that show up to vote in November are going to show up in that voting booth, and they are going to vote for or against Barack Obama. Mitt Romney has some friends, relatives and fellow Mormons ... some people that are going to vote for him. But that’s not what this election is about. This election is going to be a referendum on the president’s failed economic policies" - House Republican Leader - John Boehner

(When asked why Mitt Romney is attacking President Obama for Medicare provider cuts that Paul Ryan’s budget embraced.)

“The assumption was that, um, the, the, ah, again — I probably can’t speak to that in an exact way so I better just not,” - House Majority Leader - Eric Cantor

Let's face it folks... The Republicans aren't all that keen on their man Romney... Why should we be?

The Bill Clinton on TV last night bears a very close resemblance to the Bill Clinton who spent eight years lying about the fact that he repeatedly groped and flashed women. If, and only if, you believe the "I never had sex with that woman" line should you believe anything he said last night. He has lied so many times to so many people that even he may believe his stories; but I never will.

You know ElderAl... If that's the best you have ("The President was a horny bastard who got caught in his lies"), then you don't have much. Men cheat on their wives. It could be pastors, teachers, firemen, policemen, Army generals, astronauts, Boy Scout leaders and so on. It's a biological urge that often gets the better of the man.

If you want to go down that route, then we certainly can talk about:

Wisconsin Republican state Senator Randy Hopper who was living outside of his district shacked up with his 25 year old mistress. (2011)

The RNC chairman, Michael Steele, using party funds to pay rich, young Republican donors to attend a Hollywood night club specializing in lesbians, bondage, and S&M. (2010)

Tennessee Republican state Senator Paul Stanley, who resigned his position after it was discovered that he was having an affair with his 22-year old intern and being extorted for his behavior. (2009)

South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford, who ran off to Argentina to be with his Mistress; leaving his wife and public wondering what happened to him. (2009)

How about Mitt Romney's former aide, Matthew Joseph Elliot, who was convicted of the sexual exploitation of a child. (2008) [*Really? Mitt Romney had a Child Molester on his staff? Ewwww....!].

You're right, ElderAl. This is a fun game. Let's keep playing.

How about Republican Assistant U.S. Attorney, John David Roy Atchison, who was arrested soliciting sex from a 5-year old girl who then killed himself 3 weeks later? (2007)

Idaho Republican state Senator, Larry Craig, who was busted in the men's room of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for lewd behavior? (2007)

Florida Republican Congressman, Mark Foley, who had to resigned after it was learned that he was trying to solicit sex from male congressional pages via the congressional IM system. It was later learned that Republican House Majority Leader, John Boehner, was involved in the cover-up. (2006)

Wow... So many naughty Republicans... I haven't even gotten back in time to Clinton's Presidency... Don't worry, we'll get there...

Pennsylvania Republican Congressman, Don Sherwood, who admitted to an affair with a woman 30 years younger than himself after she accused him of physical abuse and attempting to choke her. (2005)

There's also the story of Republican contributor to Conservative Christian groups in Kalispell, MT, Richard A Dasen, Sr. Richard paid more than $5 million to have sex with a large number of young women, many of whom were in legal trouble, addicted to drugs and in debt to him. He's credited with single-handily paying for the methamphetamine boom in Kalispell with all his money invested for sex with all these young women (2004).

There's our pal, Rush Limbaugh, a 3-times divorcee who was also a 30-pill-a-day addict to painkillers. (2003)

Nevada Republican state Representative, Richard Gardner, who admitted to molesting his two daughters. Apparently 34% of the Republicans in Assembly District 34 in Nevada still preferred him over the opposing Democratic candidate. (2002) [*Sometimes you can take the people out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the people].

Almost back in time to Clinton now... Whew... What a trip down memory lane.

There's John Fund of the Wall Street Journal. He was a prominent anti-abortion columnist and GOP fund raiser. He got fired. Apparently he got the daughter of a former girlfriend of his pregnant and then encouraged her to abort the child. (2001) [*I guess abortion are for the sinners, not for the people who've made "honest" mistakes]

Finally, Matthew Glavin. President and CEO of SouthEastern Legal Foundation. He tried to have Clinton disbarred and impeached. He was arrested for trying to solicit sex from a Park Ranger in a National Park north of Atlanta in 2000. He went so far as to try and fondle the officer's privates. He had been convicted in 1996 of the same offense. (2000).

There we go... Okay. Now we're back to Bill Clinton. Please tell us every bad thing he did.

          Anjisan -

Don't forget the biggest adulterer of them all - Knute Gingrich - leading the charge against Clinton while he was sighted in the DC parking lot with Callista's Blonde helmet head bobbing up and down on the front seat Plus Gingrich then was expelled from Congress with a $300,000 fine on ethics violations

Then there is Diaper Dan David Vitter caught with DC prostitutes - and they re-elected him in Louisiana

Plus John Ensign - Senator from Nevada - who was having an affair with his aides wife and left Congress before he could be censored

Darn this is exhausting - there's just too many of them

Hey ElderAl - Get the drift?

Mitt Romney has no policies except a continuation of Bush policy pushed to the 10th power. ya' know the Deregualtion and Tax Cuts which crashed the USA Economy, The Banking, Industry and the Home Real Estate Market.

Not only have these Bush/Repuclican policies already failed MASSIVELY -- The RNC not only wants you to forget about that and pretend it didn't happen and did not exist .. but the GOP also wants to pretend Bush does not exist. Whereas the Dems are HAPPY to embrace the last Democratic President.. the RNC hides from theirs (George W. Bush) for good reason.. Romney wants to do pretty much the exact same thing.

What is the definition of crazy? Doing the same failed thing..over and again and (somehow) expecting a different resultl. Mitt Romney is that same FAILED thing.

Romney is a wall-street right wing pawn with no principles of his own.

Romney is an empty suit with nice hair. While Clint Easwood talked to an empty chair. Voting for a Romney for President means a full chair filled by an empty suit.

And Clint Eastwood ought to be ashamed of himself; but then again he's an old boy and probably didn't really know where or what he was doing there nor who he was lambasting. Maybe he thought he was in another one of his new movies talking to the Mutt and his Jeff - he's so confused .....

          @lovelyladys

i have a slightly different take on the Eastwood performance. Mr. Eastwood is a libertarian, and was actually the only speaker through the whole convention that brought legitimate criticism to the President's record. bringing up GITMO, 23 million out of work the way he did, and a few other points. After that, it was the invisible Obama routine, and that highlighted the alternate universe that the republican party is operating in now. The Republicans have built up straw man Obama (meaning the informal logical fallacy of a straw man), and Mr. Eastwood demonstrated this through his performance.

Gov. Gary Johnson should send a thank you card to Mr. Eastwood for that speech, as it is my opinion that the non-extremist portion of the republican party will start looking at Gov. Johnson, the libertarian candidate for president, pretty seriously after the RNC. i could be wrong, it has happened before, but that is what i saw going on...

@ tzalaran: That's an interesting take on Eastwood's performance. Something to think about - Thanks. If enough folks are persuaded to vote for Johnson because of this, you realize Pres Obama will sew it up for the next 4 years. From your lips, to God's ear, as my Jewish friends say. Still going with the President, tho. Libertarians are too hands off for me, they would let the states run amok.

All my take on picking Clint Eastwood was because of Eastwood's ad at halftime during Super Bowl looked like he endorsed Obama so the sleazy Republicans wanted to refute that perception

Little did they know this would backfire - they were so eager to discredit Obama that they shot themselves in the foot

Ha! Ha! That's what happens when you salivate too much to get revenge

The big spenders supporting mitt romney has nothing better to do with their money; well I have a suggestion, why not try paying your fair share of taxes. One reason they have all that extra money laying around is because they have relied on the middle and working class to pay for all their benefits.

They need to do their fair share by the country and pay their taxes.

Well guess what it's not microwave popcorn or minute rice. It's going to take time to fix. When you have no help it takes longer. Maybe if our reps do their jobs we would be better off. They claimed the medicare argument against the republican ticket was misleading, because they (Romney/Ryan) haven't 'officially' endorsed a plan and so we really can't know what they will do.

the 24 years dem control 42 milion jobs, 28 years republican control 24 million jobs was spot on though, as were most of the rest of the numbers he quoted. My wife sent me an email and the Clinton speech's fact check is on factcheck.org now...
