Officials had put out word that the Time Warner Arena was "at capacity." But NBC reported that the president would be making an appearance in the arena.
Portions of the hall were shut off, and NBC reporters spotted a motorcade heading to the arena, which was likely for former President Clinton.

President Clinton appeals to rural and white working class voters and President Obama needs to appear to connect with that group. He may believe standing on the same stage will make it appear there's some common ground there.

President Clinton could bring back memories of better times - and a reminder of how miserable things have been over the last three and a half years.
Uh, maybe he's trying to salvage what can only be termed a disastrous day?
First, the announcement that his acceptance speech is being moved to a venue that holds less than a third the number of the original venue for the laughably implausible reason that " it could rain- really!"
Then, the debacle of changing the Party platform in reaction to Republican criticism.
To say nothing of a convention centered on abortion, free birth control, and immigration- when the electorate is focused on the economy.
It's so embarrassingly out of touch, NBC is showing football, ABC was showing reruns, and CBS-anybody watch CBS anymore?
So, yeah -Obama will show up.

Clinton is a practical politician - who created the longest prosperity in US hitory, eliminated debt, was re-elected in 1996 for the first time as a Democrat since FDR in 1936, and also had some fatal character flaws too (being a soul-mate of Monica, for example - a president is lonely and not supposed to have soul-mates.).
You think ol' Willie has allready or is going to hit the slut Fluke tonite. She's pretty thick and real ugly. Just his type. America's biggest slut in the building with America's biggest slutmonger. And Hillary has run off. You bet he will. Or maybe allready has. I thought I saw a stain on her dress. And we all know her mouth didn't get round from eating popsicles. Why would she need birth control for that?
So far I've heard the same ole, same ole from Clinton... He's lied at least a dozen times during his speech. I'll wait for the fact check tomorrow to see how correct I am in his lie count. What's more is his half truths, which I've lost count of.
This is the man that was putting Obama down just a few months ago until the democratic national committee pulled him into the woodshed for a beat down. They told him that doing that to Obama while he is in the struggle of his public life was not good for the party.
All in all, this will fade. Once he leaves the stage, he will be relegated to a memory. He'll go back to working with George Bush Sr. to work on their project. Funny how he mentioned that and the crowd cheered. Imagine a democrat mentioning a republican and cheers came forth.... Now I know the democrats are weird.

Obviously, people don't only view these events on the three broadcast networks. There is C-SPAN, and a number of cable news stations also carry the speeches. Still, the apples-to-apples comparison is striking. So, on the three broadcast networks, the RNC had more viewers. This, mind you, is before counting the viewers who watched on Fox News.
Of course, close observers of the political race shouldn't be surprised. The Democrats have been facing a very significant enthusiasm gap among their voters. Obama's rallies take place in venues far smaller than those in 2008. This morning, the Dems even cancelled their plans for another big-stadium Obama speech to close out the convention. Of course, they cite the 30% chance of rain in the forecast as the reason for the move to a much smaller venue. It's a convenient excuse, since there had been reports organizers were struggling to fill the stadium."

Hmm, why did they forget PBS? It's a broadcast network, too, and it also covered the convention. In fact, PBS dedicated two hours a day to both conventions, but the commercial broadcasters NBC, CBS, and ABC gave just 1 hour a day. Curiously, the Fox broadcast network didn't even bother.
At any rate, the additional viewers on PBS and cable news might explain the difference between the 26.2 million figure mentioned by RedDev and the 11 million mentioned by Bob.
