Former President Bill Clinton is set to eviscerate Republicans for being responsible for policies that led to the 2008 economic meltdown - and yet wanting voters to put them back in power.
“In Tampa the Republican argument against the president's re-election was pretty simple: We left him a total mess, he hasn't finished cleaning it up yet, so fire him and put us back in," Clinton will say. “I like the argument for President Obama's re-election a lot better. He inherited a deeply damaged economy, put a floor under the crash, began the long hard road to recovery, and laid the foundation for a more modern, more well-balanced economy that will produce millions of good new jobs, vibrant new businesses, and lots of new wealth for the innovators."

He will also tout the president's vision for the country.
“The most important question is," Clinton will say, "what kind of country do you want to live in? If you want a you're-on-your-own, winner-take-all society, you should support the Republican ticket. If you want a country of shared prosperity and shared responsibility -- a we're-all-in-this-together society -- you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”

I'm so angry about taxes that I'll race into the arms of our corporate saviors who surely will be more fair than government. They'll build that . . . you know . . . roads, bridges, police departments, fire departments, clean water, safe food, polluted oceans, self regulated banking/investing, etc.
As I learn to become a conservative, let me be sure I have this right. . .
Job losses are worse under Obama . . . even if the statistics, graphs, reports all show that the momentum of the Bush losses ended at the end of Obama's 1st year, and have recovered, albeit slowly, ever since. We must all ignore efforts by the Republicans and their Tea friends to stop EVERY single effort to stimulate job growth. (We must also ignore that we used these same data sources to bitch for 20 months when they favored our distortions.)
Science is a fraud. Dinosaurs and men lived together, and only a few thousand years back. If liberals say "research" they mean actually supported by data, scientific controls and peer review. Our science is strictly based on "the bible told me so", or research sponsored by corporations. Our version of the facts is better than their version of the facts.
Giving people affordable health care kills off business activity. Only the rich should survive, anyway. The poor should suffer from their ignorance . . . after they vote for Republicans, of course. We all know that private insurance has our best interests at heart and those profits are accidental.
The climate is near perfection. Humans are having no influence. Dead and dying wild life is a Hollywood special effect created by them damn liberals. Weather aberrations are NOT real.
Corporations will protect us. No need for any regulation. Destroying companies for personal profit is the American way. Firing people is indeed fun. Wheeeee! The gulf spill was a mere dribble. Human waste in the veggies are of no consequence. Fumes from the neighborhood paint factory add fragrance to the air.
Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, Coutler, Rove, Aisles and their crowd care about 'we the people'. The "rewriting" of the constitution to elevate religion (if it's my religion), empower corporations, and sell politicians to the highest bidder will improve America. Freedom is over-rated.

The American Dream is certainly gone. Unless the dream of our college grads is to live at home and work at McDonalds. The choice of whether or not have health insurance (with the 'pro-choice' crowd making it mandatory) was a bit perplexing. The idea that the country can be prosperous with the "new normal" of a constant 8%+ unemployment, trillions in new debt, and more and more people on government assistance seems to also have eluded Obama.

You can't blame bad housing loans on anybody but the crooked bankers that wrote them. It is not Clinton's fault, or Obama's or Barney Frank's, or Fannie, or Freddie, crooked bankers signed off on those loans period. I had a 23 year old kid who got his first job making 50 grand a year and they were going to lend him over $375,000 on a "interest only loan". You got that interest only you pay and pay and never have equity, hell the Mafia would give you a better loan. These bankers took no responsibility, young naive people trusted them and the story was always the same we can get you in that house. All kinds of crazy loans they developed to "get you in" not because of Fannie or Freddie, but because homes were increasing 12% or more a year. They knew many of these people would go belly up in a year when the balloon note kicked in, but hey let them make payments for a year and when we take the house back it will be worth more. They even sold those bad loans they signed off on as high yield investment securities, you get that bad loans were now securities! It was working for them until home prices slipped and then the wheels flew off, nobody is responsible for the actions of those crooked bastards but themselves, they never told anybody you can't afford this, the story was always the same we can find a way to get you in, hell half the time the appraiser, real estate agent, and mortgage lender was a one stop shop basically under the same roof, how freaking phony was that. Who is at fault because people were told they could borrow 125% of the inflated appraisal of their existing home to get into a bigger one, or to back a home equity loan so they could buy big screen TV's, crooked bankers took advantage of a lot of stupid or just young and naive kids who wanted a home, "we can get you in" was music to their ears. Then when prices started to drop it all unraveled in a hurry, then it was like a falling knife nobody wanted to grab, then they would not lend a dime to people who could afford it because they were afraid the house would not be worth as much next year. The US government never told or forced bankers to write bad loans and then to compound the losses by selling those bad loans as investments. Greedy bankers are solely responsible for their dishonesty, they signed those loans, they even charged more for bad loans, they had a nice racket for awhile, and they knew exactly what they were doing.

It seems that even with the nasty, mean, “unfair” Bush tax cuts revenues (in constant FY 2005 dollars) grew from a low of 1,901.1 in 2003 (after the dot-com recession and 9/11) to a high of 2,414.0 in 2007 before the economy collapsed. They even surpassed the highest revenue year under the Clinton administration (2000).
Yes, deficit grew also, but that was because of Bush’s exorbitant spending.

Medicare Part-D?
Medicare Part D is the most cost-effective program within the federal health insurance programs and a good deal for taxpayers. Estimates by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office indicate that Part D's price to the public will come in at 46% less than initially estimated for the first decade.
In fact, Part D is saving the entire Medicare program money, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Improved access and adherence to medicine is saving $1,200 per year in hospital, nursing home and other costs for each senior who previously lacked prescription drug coverage, according to the study. This is saving the Medicare program an estimated $12 billion each year.
It’s a good deal for seniors too because they are paying less out of pocket for their prescriptions. The total average out-of-pocket prescription drug costs dropped between 13% and 15% thanks to the creation of Part D.
Medicare Part D plans are available for as little as $14.80 per month in most States.
The competitive-based Medicare Part D program is working and should be used as a model for reforming other elements of federal health care programs. Medicare Part D enrollees are overwhelmingly satisfied with this program. A recent Medicare Today survey reported that 84 % of seniors are satisfied with the program.

forrest grump: Actually, the fault is on Carter, Clinton and the dems (and RHINOs). Carter and the dems started the "Community Reinvestment Act." Clinton and the dems expanded it to the point that banks were penalized if they didn't extend loans to minorities (ie: those that didn't qualify for loans). The scheme was set up such that the banks could make loans that were secured by Fannie and Freddie (ie: the taxpayers). Then the feds decided to raise interest rates on those banks that didn't have a sufficiently "diverse" portfolio of loans, thus "encouraging" those banks to make more bad loans. Bush warned Congress and America about this "problem" shortly after he took over as President. The response from the libs and RINOs was "cold" at best. In other words, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and the rest of the libs refused to do anything about it. Gee, Bush was right and the economy crashed. Obviously it was Bush's fault! He should have been more like Obama and issued an executive order shutting down Fannie and Freddie. But, being the schoe he was, he followed the law. Good thing Obama isn't like that. That way we can pay a lot more for energy! Woopie!

You know, I've read that before. And I sincerely respect a lot of the folks who signed their names.
But the fact is, the government is not a business and economists should not be making public policy. While those principles and the actions being advocated might be good for an exclusively business-centric governance, they do not delineate what is good for a government which by law and as required by our Constitution takes into consider the health, safety, and welfare of the US. Where they do advocate specific policies (state's rights) the economists ignore existing federal law (Interstate Commerce Clause) as well as federal supremacy.
Heck, based on what's advocated in the letter (exclusively thinking business now), we could do without the US Military too as that provides no direct economic benefit yet would directly contribute to a lessening of federal expenditures and shrinkage of government. In fact, over the last 30 years we've implemented virtually all of them at one point or another and still we are in a recession. (Maybe that has something to do with the fact that we are part of a global economy?)
That said, I actually agree with a lot of the principles being advocated and the end stage of them. However (imo), the implementation of all of those policies MUST be incremental or we will be putting our citizenry, teh environment, and the safety and security of our country at MUCH further risk. Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan's economic plan (what of it you can find on their election websites) spends more time fussing at President Obama and very little time in implementation detail.
Side note - whenever an organization's "religious values" are the driving factor behind their interpretation and change for secular law in the US they are advocating for a violation of the separation of church and state.

President Bush and the Republicans were no more individually responsible for that low gas price than they were for the $4.10/gallon that was paid during his administration.

The government should NOT be "hands off all private business." That would allow for monopolies and larger companies to completely dominate and directly interfere wih the entry of new businesses to the "free market." Further, that would be a functional impossibility since private businesses use public transportation, energy, and communication inffrastructure.
The hands off principle would also directly and negatively impact the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens (which the US government is required by the Constitution to protect). Remember "Love Canal" or more recently the levels of mercury emmisions that have led to birth defects and increased occurences of cancer, etc.?

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 3rd, 2007 is the Democrat Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.
In that first year, 2006 when the Democrats took over control of both houses of Congress, they had to contend with veto power George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely because they had a super majority and could over ride any Bush veto and that is what they did, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.
Now, for my two cents: I did not like G. W. Bush, nor his predecessor, nor really anyone since Eisenhower, except Bush, Sr. But, I didn't really trust him too far either.
My only regret is someone like General Powell refused to even consider running for that office. I personally believe he is the one person that could have brought this great nation back together, instead of creating the divisiveness now in place.
The last poll I saw had Rep. Todd Akin ahead of his Democratic opponent by a conciderable amount.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac...pushed by House and Senate Democrats set a standard for doing business by giving loans to people who weren't loan worthy. The private sector saw this practice and decided they wanted some of this gravy for themselves. Bush could have shut the Democrats down, but he didn't because his buddies wanted their own shot at packing these bad loans as investments.

But you can bet ol billy boy claimed the credit for it and still is.
Ernie, it was also due to business investing in IT infrastructure. That created jobs, increased revenue to the government, which the republicans were smart enough not to let Clinton spend.

There was never a surplus, show me the last year the national debt did not increase. This mythical surplus was a PROJECTED surplus based on the current budget and PROJECTED revenue, which is worthless because you can never know how much money is going to come in, and a new budget is supposed to be made each year. Most of Clinton's "balanced budget" was achieved through great revenues and "borrowing" money from the SS trust fund.
