WEST LEBANON, NH -- Mitt Romney emerged from debate rehearsals in Vermont today to pick up some pizzas, and to deliver his own analysis of the first night of the Democratic National Convention, which he said could not make the claim Americans were better off after President Obama's first term.
"You've heard no one stand up and say that people are better off than they were four years ago," Romney told reporters traveling with him as he picked up several extra large pies at a pizza joint here. "They really can't say that. They can't say it in all honesty. Particularly with the news that has come out this week."
Wednesday: David Gregory previews tonight's speech by Former President Bill Clinton at this week's Democratic Convention in Charlotte.
"That news: The national debt tripping $16 trillion dollars for the first time, and the number of Americans receiving food stamps topping 47 million, up 15 million from when President Obama took office," Romney said.

"The American people are not doing better and this president understands that and I think that's why people are reluctant to even talk about it because they know the American people know better," Romney said, echoing his campaign's latest line of attack against the Obama administration, after several top Obama advisers fumbled the "are we better off" question on last Sunday's talk-show circuit.
The comments to reporters marked Romney's emergence from a day of strenuous debate preparation at the secluded Vermont estate of his former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey. Romney and a small coterie of aides gathered at the house yesterday morning for a series of mock debates with Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, who is playing the role of President Obama for Romney.
"I'm just glad I won't be debating ... Rob Portman in the final debates," Romney said. "He's good."

Here in the mountains, with limited cell phone and Internet service, Romney said he did not watch Michelle Obama's address to the Democratic convention in Charlotte last night, and that regardless he only had praise for the first lady.
"I didn't see her speech, but I certainly respect the first lady and think she's, she's done a fine job as our first lady," Romney said. "Lovely person and I respect her."

Yes, Americans are much better off. First off, they do not have a buffoon like George W. Bush destroying the country on every level imaginable. Next Obama got not only Bin Laden but he got the 2nd in command as well. And he continues to fight the war on terrorism the smart way. Using drones and not wasting the lives of your young sons and daughters to go after this filth. He gave you a health plan. Four years ago was September 2008. Are we better off now, they ask? Unless you were on a different planet (or were a member of congress) the rest of us remember that the Dow fell from 14,800 to 6900, our 401's were collapsing along with a hundred banks, many that were national in size, citibank had just fired 53,000 employees, Bear Sterns had just collapsed, Lehman Brothers followed in the third week of September, credit dried up, even for the mopst credit worthy, auto companies were contemplating bankruptcy, millions of homes were being forclosed as rates re set, many were, and still are underwater, and no one knew what to expect, except that it looked like another depression was coming.
President Obama stopped the fall through TARP and stimuluous money. Maybe it wasn't all that it was hoped, but it worked to stop the fiscal collapse. And it's coming back slower than anyone thought. But, it's coming back. I guess if that other planet is the Capital and you are a Republican politician with a guaranteed paycheck, it didn't look so bad. I still have my 401 statements. Jesus it was a scary time. Thank God President Obama had the balls to do what was right for the country.

This election is simple! If you want to live off the government, stay poor, miserable and not work, elect Obama! How did the "cut taxes/cut regulation" work for us in the 2000's? We've tried trickle down, supply side, whatever you want to call it now....it doesn't work. As a matter of fact, it led to the biggest financial disaster in 80 years. It is abjectly stupid to go back to policy we KNOW doesn't work.

There are only 4 states that don't have lifetime time limits on
welfare. 32 States including Kentucky have a 60 month lifetime limit
that an adult can be included in an Aid for Dependent Children case.
Florida and Georgia have 48 month lifetime limits and Arkansas has a
24 month lifetime limit. Welfare reform went into effect 16 yrs. Ago,
yet Conservatives continue to charge that people are having children
so that they can get Public Assistance for life. European Americans
are the largest group of people in this country receiving Welfare and
Food Assistance, yet Conservatives continue to charge that African
American and other People of Color are the only ones on Welfare.
People receiving Food Assistance must have little or no income to
qualify for the program and for a person to be resentful because
their own income is not low enough to be eligible is bizarre.
Obama was dealt a challenging hand to play the last four years, he had to ask many to do their job, something a good number of them had never done. He has tried very hard to change many do nothings, to do a few things right. Many say Mitt has no record that can compare, that is all right, just ask his flock if they were better off the last few years than they were previously, and where did any positive support actually come from. Neither performance is going to get us where we need to be, we need to elect representation that knows how to keep the government out of the way, so the few in our society that know what they are doing can do what they know we must.

Once again we will prove Romney to be a liar. I am a democrat and I know I am better off. In 2008, I was unemployed. Now I have a job, that pays good money that I am blessed to have. In 2008, the stock market was at 6,500 and 401k's were not worth that much. Now the stock market is at 13,000, and corporate bonuses are very high. In 2008 we were bleeding over 100K jobs a month. We have now had 29 straight months of job growth most in the private sector. Bin Laden dead, and GM is alive. We are out of Iraq, we repealed DODT, Lily Ledbetter, and Health Care. Yes, regardless of the fact Republicans won't acknowledge it. If you think I am wrong, ask a Republican if the long for the days of 2008. It is funny how the party who put us into this mess, who have done nothing to fix it have convinced Americans that they have seen the light. It amazes me how naive americans can be. Romney has no plan other then to blame Obama. How that is working is beyond me, and the fact that middle class americans would vote against their own self-interest just to get Obama out of office is really amazing.
