Castro to go after Romney in keynote

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will go after the Republican presidential ticket for its economic philosophy and try to paint the pair as out of touch.

Julian Castro is the Mayor of San Antonio, Texas and the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. He spoke to NBC News about the importance of family and their influence on his political beliefs.

"Republicans tell us that if the most prosperous among us do even better, that somehow the rest of us will too,” Castro, 37, will say, according to excerpts released by the Democratic National Convention Committee. “Folks...we've heard that before. First they called it 'trickle-down.' Then 'supply side.' Now it's 'Romney/Ryan.' Or is it 'Ryan/Romney'? Either way, their theory has been tested. It failed. Our economy failed. The middle class paid the price. Your family paid the price. Mitt Romney just doesn't get it."

Obama Senior Campaign Advisor Robert Gibbs join Andrea Mitchell Reports to preview day one of the DNC.

He will note the value of hard work, but add that the country needs to “invest” and help people along the way.

"Texas may be the one place where people actually still have bootstraps,” he will say, “and we expect folks to pull themselves up by them. But we also recognize there are some things we can't do alone.”

He will add: "Mitt Romney, quite simply, doesn't get it. A few months ago he visited a university in Ohio and gave the students there a little entrepreneurial advice. 'Start a business,' he said. But how? 'Borrow money if you have to from your parents,' he told them. Gee -- why didn't I think of that?"

The Social Media Story of DNC 2012

He will also lavish praise on President Obama

"Now, like many of you, I watched last week's Republican Convention,” he will say. “They told a few stories of individual success...we all celebrate individual success. But the question is, how do we multiply that success. The answer is President Barack Obama."

He adds: "Four years ago, America stood on the brink of a Depression. Despite incredible odds and united Republican opposition, our President took action. And now we've seen 4.5 million new jobs. He knows better than anyone that there's more hard work to do. But we're making progress. And now we need to make a choice. It's a choice...between a country where the middle class pays more, so that millionaires can pay less... or a country where everybody pays their fair share. It's a choice between a nation that slashes funding for our schools and guts Pell grants... Or a nation that invests more in education. It's a choice between a politician who rewards companies that ship American jobs overseas...Or a leader who brings jobs back home.

"This is the choice before us. And to me, to my generation, and for all the generations that will come after us, our choice is clear. Our choice is a man who's always chosen us. A man who already is our President -- Barack Obama."

For more, read: "Who is Julian Castro and can he deliver in the spotlight?"

*** UPDATE *** Ryan Williams, of the Romney campaign, responded this way: “Middle class families understand that they are not better off than they were four years ago because President Obama’s liberal policies have failed to turn around the economy. The president has wasted hundreds of billions of dollars on a big government agenda that has resulted in record debt, declining salaries and 42 consecutive months of unemployment above 8%. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have a plan that will strengthen the middle class by reforming our tax code, reducing excessive government regulations and creating 12 million jobs over the next four years.”

I hope he goes after Willard's line about losing your $22.50/hour job and taking two $9.00/hr jobs to take its place. That is what Bain does for you, ships out good paying facotry jobs and replaces them with stock clerk jobs at places like Sports Authority and Staples.

Reposting from another discussion.

I just hope the Democrats take the high road this convention by focusing not so much on bashing the "other guys", but instead on how they plan to improve the situation in this country. I believe most Americans are tired of the mud-slinging game and want to hear substantive solutions to our country's problems. Sure, I'm aware they will probably have some "attack dogs" up on stage to point out the Republicans' short-comings, but I'd like to see and hear them focus more on their own strengths instead of just the GOP's weaknesses.

The comments (to be) made by Mr. Castro are exactly what I'm talking about. Speak mainly about your own party's virtues. Take a jab at the other party only when it serves to prove your points, but don't just go after 'em for the sake of tearing them down, like how they did at the GOP convention.

In other words, show the GOP who the real adults in the room are.

hey thetotas, you know im not much into the god thing. Guess im not conservative (only fiscally) however i think its a non issue the leftwing drones use to create meaningless issues. I have never been pushed by anyone religious to do anything yet the left continues to cry loudly that's what's happening. Same thing with Race and just about every other virtually non existent issue.

I would like him to address his mothers perspective on the Alamo. Honestly, her son is the Mayor of a city who's heritage she hates. I do see the connection between Castro and Obama...they both depend on lax polling regulations to win their respective public jobs...AG Holder must be counted as best friend to both and well both their fathers abandoned their mothers.

Should be an interesting speech...can't wait for the fact check.

WTF man.

1)increased corporate taxes and state fees by $750 million a year,

2) adding some 49000 jobs under his tenure. Mass ranked 47th out of 50 states over the entirety of Romney’s four years as governor

Wow what a record. Conservative rejoice in the new prophet.

SS,

Its a blog do you really think I care what you think?

Al, I am not a republican and I wasn't lying.

Caesar, I get your point, I think I am a little bit of both.

The Weekly Standard -

God" has been removed from this year's Democratic party platform.

David Brody reports on this passage from the 2008 party platform:

“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

It now reads:

“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”

To me, it's a much bogger deal that Jerusalem has been removed from the platform. Tells me all I need to know.

Speaking of platforms- looks like the problem of finding 74,000 bodies to fill the Bank of America stadium for "the speech" has been solved

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2198206/Democrats-set-Obamas-big-speech-74-000-seater-outdoor-stadium-20-000-seater-indoor-arena.html

They're going to move it to the Time Warner arena. They only need 20,000 to fill that venue.

Be interesting to see if they can pull that off.

Caesar,

You didn't want tax cuts extended? I thought you all keep talking bi-partisan. They were extended in a compromise with the republicans for a greater cause than those.

Patriot Act re-signed, to keep you sorry azz safe. As well as it is imperfect, it is the best way to organize the flow of information to keep America safe from terrorists.

Gitmo still opened because the republicans blocked moving those prisoners to America for trial, where it is proven the punishments of those who do harm to America is punished more severely.

Drone strikes increased is a good thing, saves many more Americans lives. If Pakistan would cooporate, we wouldn't have to do this. Did you hear we are suspending aid to Pakistan?

$1.5 trillion more debt in Bush's last fiscal year. More than Obama's. AND the costs of the wars are now on the books.

If GDP continues it's decent, that would mean we are still in recession. We are for some, but more private jobs have been brought back than were lost on Bush's watch. Mind you, I am not bashing Bush, just making a few points. It is what it is.

Unemployment still high because civil servant jobs continue to be cut. We would be well under 7% if not for those cuts. All of those middle class jobs would have still been tax payers. Hey, where are the jobs the tea party promised in the 2010 mid-terms?

President Obama IS running on his record. Please take the cotton out of your ears and you would hear him.

Ceasar, you ARE the weakest link. Now go!

I am watching the DEM convention online. It is all the Presidents record and the Democrats record with NO GOP bashing like the GOP bashed the Democrats and President Obama last week. We have the record, we have the ideas to move forward and now it is time to make the GOP irrelevant so we can move forward without obstruction.

Obama/Biden 2012, Dem super majority in the house and senate 2012!

Obama doesn't want to eliminate the tax cuts for those who'll actually spend it and stimulate the economy just for those at the top. Unfortunately those at the top are the only ones republicans care about so they refuse to allow anyone to get them if the rich doesn't also. I'd say better to end it all together rather than to give 80% to those who don't need it. To give them the meat while we get crumbs isn't worth it.

Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital

By Matt Taibbi, August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET

A man makes a $250 million fortune loading up companies with debt and then extracting million-dollar fees from those same companies, in exchange for the generous service of telling them who needs to be fired in order to finance the debt payments he saddled them with in the first place. That same man then runs for president riding an image of children roasting on flames of debt, choosing as his running mate perhaps the only politician in America more pompous and self-righteous on the subject of the evils of borrowed money than the candidate himself. If Romney pulls off this whopper, you'll have to tip your hat to him: No one in history has ever successfully run for president riding this big of a lie.

Irony .... The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

What part of your statement was irony oneman? The remark about calling Julian Castro Fidel? Or the part that Socialism is the Left's end game?

Financial engineering has been part of the Burger King story for so long that it’s hard to believe there is still anything worth plucking from its carcass. “It’s been run as a cash cow for Wall Street,” said Bob Goldin, an executive vice president of Technomic, a food service consulting firm. Along the way it’s had 13 chief executives in 25 years, numerous strategy shifts and marketing campaigns — and has been constantly starved for cash. But, hey, the private equity guys got theirs. And isn’t that what really matters?

In 2002, Goldman Sachs, along with two private equity firms, TGP and ... hmmm ... Bain Capital, teamed up to buy Burger King. This is exactly the kind of situation private equity firms like to trumpet: taking over a downtrodden company and nursing it back to health. And to get them their due, Burger King’s new owners did some good, stabilizing both the company and the franchisees, many of whom were in worse shape than Burger King itself.

But the private equity investors also cut themselves an incredibly sweet deal. Their $1.5 billion purchase price included only $210 million of their own money; the rest was borrowed. They immediately began taking out tens of millions of dollars in fees. Four years later, they took Burger King public. But, first, they rewarded themselves with a $448 million dividend. In all, according to The Wall Street Journal, “the firms received $511 million in dividend, fees, expense reimbursements and interest” — while still retaining a 76 percent stake.

Does it need to be said that Burger King was soon back to its old struggling self? Or that the solution, once again, was to sell to another private equity firm? Of course not! In 2010, Bain, Goldman and TPG cashed out, selling Burger King to 3G Capital, for $3.3 billion. In sum, the original private equity troika reaped a fortune by selling a company that was in nearly as much trouble as it had been when they first bought it. Surely this represents the apotheosis of financial engineering.

He is. Everyone knows what Obamas done as president the same as most are aware of what Romney did as governor, it's all public record. What people want to know is which party has the best plan for the future. Why is it that only republicans are more concerned with the past than the future? What I'd like to see is how Romney can sell a 5 trillion tax cut as being good for the country when we have a 15 trillion dollar debt other than just being good for rich people.

By Matt Taibbi, August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET

Four years ago, the Mitt Romneys of the world nearly destroyed the global economy with their greed, shortsightedness and – most notably – wildly irresponsible use of debt in pursuit of personal profit. The sight was so disgusting that people everywhere were ready to drop an H-bomb on Lower Manhattan and bayonet the survivors. But today that same insane greed ethos, that same belief in the lunatic pursuit of instant borrowed millions – it's dusted itself off, it's had a shave and a shoeshine, and it's back out there running for president.

If Barack Hussein Obama had kept his campaign
promises, he would have closed the Guantanamo
Bay detention center. Two thousand of the worst
terrorists in the world would be eating
American food on American tables in air conditioned
comfort on Rykers Island in NY City. If left to
Biden and Obama, they would be watching cable
television and waiting twenty years for their
lawyers' motions and objections to clear the
American judicial system, before they ever saw a day
                  in court.

If left to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, District
Attorneys wouldn't be able to interview Sheik Khalid
Mohammed and the terrorists without their lawyers
present, to say nothing of FBI and CIA
interrogation. If left to Biden and Obama, Mohammed
would never have given the CIA the name of the
Kuwaiti who lead them to bin Laden. Over the
strident objections of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and
the entire Democratic Party, Guantanamo remains
open, Mohammed was interrogated and did give up the
Kuwaiti, and the Navy Seals, despite the objections
of Biden, Obama and all the Democrats, took out
                  Osama bin Laden.

If Barack Obama had been President of the United
States on 9/11, Saddam Hussein would still be
running Iraq, the Taliban would still be running
Afghanistan, and the United States would still be
                  running from Osama bin Laden.

Ps If Bush is never President, 9-11 likely never happens! Think about that one...if he had been doing his job and read his briefing report, instead of getting hammered at his ranch (Bush took more days of vacation than any other president in the last 40 years! FYI), then maybe we could have been prepared. Of course to be fair, Clinton wasnt much better acting on the intelligence, but he wasnt the President at the time, and wasnt friends with the family of the man who orchestrated it either!

Hmmm. let's see now . . . President Obama that gave the go ahead to kill bin Laden. And wasn't it President Bush that decided to wage a war based on lies and decide not to go after the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks after saying he that bin Laden wasn't important?

And wasn't it Congress that refused to fund the transfer of the prisoners so that Gitmo could be closed? Durn that Constitutional "check and balance" thing!

The damm Congress voted to keep Gitmo open- because no one wants to take released pissed off prisoners who have been jailed for 10+ years without evidence to convict.

Why don't we go one step further back in time and say if President Bush had been paying attention to the CIA or if the CIA had been doing their job 9/11 may never have happened. We may not have had to invade Iraq or Afghanistan and Osama Ben Laden might still be living in the United States. What ifs and buts don't get it done! Just as everything a President wants to do isn't done. Something's a person doesn't find out until he/she becomes President and that's how it should be. So if a promise is made you can't expect congress to see it's done or a President to know it's even possible. I for one may have or not voted for President Obama but I do know that having terrorist on American soil isn't something I wanted. Guantanamo needed to stay open in order to keep that form happening!

                  Hey Jerry,

Which is it? One minute you are blaming President Obama for not closing Guantanamo as promised, and the next minute you are blaming him for trying to close it! Hate to tell you, but Osama bin Laden isn't running anywhere. I don't want to hear how Ex-President Bush started the whole process and you Republicans want to give him the credit for that enemy being taken out. Mostly, because the facts show otherwise, but also because in seven years your guy never got near him and stopped looking for him.

Thank God we still have some laws in place that protect us from your kind of justice. like waterboarding, torture, etc. That's the tactics of the Nazi's back in the 30's and 40's. Are you saying you Republicans believe in those kind of tactics?

Everyone now knows why Ex-President Bush went after Saddam, and it wasn't for what he claimed as a reason. History has a way of showing what the facts really are.

I'm certain it's true if Obama or any democrat had been president they wouldn't have attacked Iraq looking for imaginary WMD. We'd have over 5000 American and allied soldiers still alive and 200,000 Iraqi's that weren't killed. As most Americans since the facts came out believe invading Iraq was a mistake you hardly make a worthwhile point.

As for Afganistan the Taliban wasn't our enemy, Bush demanded they hand over Bin Laden and if they had we wouldn't have gone to war. Al'Queda had maybe 10,000 fighters being trained in camps. If we'd merely fired a dozen cruise missles we'd have crippled Al'Queda, maybe have gotten Bin Laden then or later and gotten our revenge. Either way we'd have 4000 less dead and 4 or 5 trillion less debt.

...maybe if the SCOTUS hadn't handed Bush the Younger (aka The Shrub) the Presidency Al Qaeda may not have even attempted 9/11,since their aim was to drag us into quagmire military encounters to deplete our economy and they may have surmised that Gore wasn't nearly the idiot that Bush was,nor Lieberman a cheap $2 whore for the military industrial complex like Cheney,so therefore we would not have gone into Iraq so 9/11 wouldn't achieve it's aim.

Oh and as a side note...where are all the Right Wing whining pussies crying about MSNBC being racist by not showing Cory Booker's speech live tonight, just like the didn't show the GOP under card speakers last week? Seems like an equal treatment scenario so far,but you'll never here the Righties acknowledge that being the lie like it's Gospel, curse the truth like it's the plague scumbags that they are.

And AGAIN,where are the DumFux is "fair and balanced" clowns this week when MSNBC is doing EXACTLY the same programming at the Democratic Convention as they did at the Republican one last week, while it's actualy DumFux that HAS switched how they're covering this week compared to last?

                  Hey Jerry,

You do know the Republicans blocked the closing right? Try to research. Unless of course you're hoping everybody is as dumb as you and they'll believe you. Well, you're in the wrong forum chuckle head. Maybe the cons believe you but us folks know you're a lying tool.

                  Jerry-450822

                  Wow Jerry, where to start?
                  1. My, you certainly are frightened of terrorists aren't you? It must be hell to be so frightened (google "conservative brain"). You don't even trust the US Justice System to keep us safe from convicted terrorists. Of the convicted terrorists in prison on US soil how many have escaped? ...or, that's right, none. Still you're frightened.

If left to Biden and Obama, Mohammed would never have given the CIA the name of the Kuwaiti who lead them to bin Laden. Over the strident objections of Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the entire Democratic Party, Guantanamo remains open, Mohammed was interrogated and did give up the Kuwaiti, and the Navy Seals, despite the objections of Biden, Obama and all the Democrats, took out Osama bin Laden.

                  2. Definitely the ramblings of an unsound mind. Let's see, according to you Biden, Obama and all the Democrats objected to taking Osama bin Laden. So what you are accusing the US Navy SEALs of is mutiny (punishable by death under the UCMJ). Obama gave the order genius and it seems to me it was Republicans, not Democrats who objected to bin Laden's death. Probably because their "great neo-con hope" GW Bush was too inept to get him.

If Barack Obama had been President of the United States on 9/11, Saddam Hussein would still be running Iraq, the Taliban would still be running Afghanistan, and the United States would still be running from Osama bin Laden.

                  3. Perhaps Hussein would perhaps the Arab Spring would have dealt with him. Over 4,000 more American Service Members would be alive who died in GW's war. And as soon as we leave, more likely than not the Taliban will be running Afghanistan again. Do you even know who the Taliban are? They are a fundamentalist religious militant sect of the Pashtun (ethnic Afghans). As a member of the American Taliban you certainly should understand religious fundamentalism. The only way the Taliban will ever be kept in check is by the Pashtun. You're last comment is absurd...Obama killed bin Laden.

oneman- one party left the other with a balanced budget and a path to paying down the debt. Even Greenspan the FED chair went to Congress to plead that they NOT pay down the debt too fast.

Your side for the FIRST time EVER cut tax during a war. We have been at war for ten years and it is TOO much to ask that the richest Americans help contribute more and as your side loves to preach SUPPORT OUR TROOPS by paying 3% more in tax on REPORTABLE net income(line 31 from your tax return- AFTER deductions) above $250,000.

                    who is UNPATRIOTIC?

Ex President Clinton is a key note speaker and doing advertising campaigns while Bush is remaining silent. Not hard to guess why. What is hard to guess is why so many people realise the disaster Bush was as a president yet can't see the harm electing someone running on identical policies.

A wise Republican once said "-- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth". That Republican initiated a war to prevent the dissolution of the United States of American. It's a shame that you see the government "of the people" as a faceless "Borg".

Here's a thought; why not move to Virginia where some citizens are threatening violent revolution when Obama is re-elected. In fact, if all of you that feel that way would move there you would save us a great deal of tax money. A consolidated target is much less expensive for our military to take out.

When an elderly man pretends or thinks he's talkin' to an invisible person in a seat right next him, and the crowd actually "connects", ya gotta wonder about the crowd. Do they ALL have Dementia....is it contagious??. My God. I watched some of the GOP convention, and the first night of the Dem convention, and what a stark difference. One was full of starch, lies and some fresh and some stale BS, and the other full of enthusiasm and hopefulness for OUR future. Guess which one was enthusiastic, and if ya guessed GOP, you're way off target pal. Romney couldn't find his way out of a wet paper bag without help, because he's always HAD it. That idiot never really worked a day in his life, born with the silver spoon and all, and the last blister he had on his hands was probably while digging a grave for an illegal immigrant gardener he had to literally "cover up". If you vote for this idiot who just wants the job for the sake of adding to his trophy showcase, go right ahead, and feel proud that you helped ruin America, and your neighbors life, and your childrens future.....ALL of our futures. At this time in America, the GOP is dangerous and misguided at best, and Romney and his handlers are the worst of the worst. OBAMA-BIDEN 2012 if you want a free country and a free and real future and a REAL President to lead us forward!!

Castro comes from a state that is going to Romney in a big way. Texas is also the state that is enduring this terrible economic situation in the US better than most, because of strong conservative policies and a business friendly atmosphere. Castro may be a big deal to the left, but he is not on anyones radar here in Texas. Guess thats what you get when you recruit a bunch of mayors to speak for the party. Less experience than we got with this president. Good luck with that!

We have an illegal immigration problem here in Texas which results in wage and education shortfalls. On a brighter note, 1,600 people per week are moving here for the high paying jobs that are plentiful in O&G, Medical and finance just to mane a few. And no state income tax to boot. Now I see that as a winner and so do most Texans.

The extra 3% is only on the amount above 250K so it really only impacts a lot for those making a lot more, Like Romney. That's why they're opposed to it.

Eric...read your history...vietnam was a democratic war, korea was a democratic war.....I'm a republican, not 99%er, served in two wars, have boys that served in two conflicts including the one we have now...whats your record?...

You do realise the parties have pretty much reversed since Johnson right? Up until Johnson who was considered a turncoat Democrats were anti blacks and minorities and the hawks, after Johnson it reversed. Byrd, Hollings and Wallace were all famous democratic bigots. Democrats evolved, republicans devolved.

To Coyote.....maybe YOU need to check your history. Who was the Commander in Chief when the very first American went to 'Nam? It was dear ol' Ike. A Republican, a Military man who opened the doors for countless Americans to be killed by an enemy that wasn't even ours, and we STILL lost in spite of it all, and in spite of all the graves dug and families destroyed on both sides. Sound familiar?? It's the same thing G.W. Bush did to us in Iraq. Don't choose sides because of your political views, simply face facts. They speak for themselves as do the widows of brave men under the "leaderships" of a stupid President. I know, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but it is what it is

Republicans cheer an ever expanding military, ignore body counts and demand we get involved in every scuffle in the world. They demand the right to torture to "save lives" and had no desire to see gitmo shut down under Bush. Yet now they're outraged that Obama hasn't shut down this stain on America's reputation. Nect time maybe they should think more about not making the stain instead of whining because a democrat can't clean it up fast enough.

We can not close Gitmo down yet, we must first incarcerate all the right wing traitors, try them and sentence them; then we can close the place down.

Romney's plan to reduce the deficit.

                                      Popping red smoke

-Take away 30% of the deductions from Americans who make over $100,000 a year.

....but Romney won't so much as touch the illegal immigration issue trying to find a cure that reduce the deficit.

                                      http://personalliberty.com/2009/02/11/how-much-do-illegal-immigrants-really-cost-the-united-states/

                                    • $11 billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments.
                                    • - If we take the amount down two an average of $5 billion per state that equals $250 billion spent on illegals each year in America. Money that is lost and does not generate taxes.

                                    • Illegal households only pay about one-third the amount of federal taxes that non-illegal households pay.
                                    • Illegal households create a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion a year. If given amnesty, this number could grow to more than $29 billion.
                                    • $1.9 billion dollars a year is spent on food-assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC and free school lunches for illegal aliens.
                                    • $1.6 billion is spent on the federal prison and court system for illegal aliens.
                                    • $2.5 billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens.
                                    • So why is Romney going after hard working Americans and making them give up their deductions when illegals immigrants are making close to a $500 billion a year deficit for America?

To cure the illegal immigration problem each state should round up the illegals make them citizens so that they will then have to pay taxes as well as being counted.

Otherwise the deficit that they create could reach the trillion dollar a year level.

How about that $30 BILLION for the military spent every 8 days excluding the wars. You know you could end world hunger for that amount.

But I digress. hunger causes instability in a society, which gives conservatives an excuse to send in the military, AAHHH that increases that untouchable budget, and the cycle repeats.

The "liberal" governor of Mass, turned Rightie in the primaries, then morphing into a Centrist, then a Rightie reborn, later a whoknowswhat. Romney jerks like a windshield wiper. A capital liar on economy, jobs, health, immigration, defense, or anything.

Yeah, and then Bush dropped the ball and told us all that he really wasn't concerned or worried about the mastermind that nearly brought this country to her knees and changed the lives of every American in this country. It was President Obama who stated that if elected one of his priorities would be to take bin Laden out if we had the opportunity. He knew how much it meant to the American people that bin Laden pay for what he did to us. On the night that Obama announced that we had killed bin Laden many of the streets across this country drew flash mobs of people celebrating the death of the terrorist. You can't tell me that many of the celebrators were not Republicans. Why is it now that you people are so willing to down play what happened? Why? Because it was Obama who finally took care of it? You people do great disrespect to the thousands who died that day by now making it sound like it was no big deal. Any of you who do that should be so ashamed of yourselves, especially with the anniversary of 9/11 just a week away.

They tried it with Clinton, and they are trying it with Obama. They are out of touch, and out of ideas. The only thing they do well is hate -- women, minorities, gays, students, the poor, the educated, the terminally ill, and on and on. In fact, if you're not a white male who is already wealthy, they probably hate you, too.

Actually, I have to correct the good Mayor. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan DO get it - they know exactly what they are proposing in making the wealthiest wealthier - including themselves. They hope that the rest of us don't get it. Change the name - as the Mayor will say - and hopefully there are enough suckers who will think it's a "new" idea. And those who don't will think somehow that the "1%" refers to them.... duh! It's a testimony to how many lemmings there are in this country - if they were paying attention instead of swallowing all the Republican garbage this election should be won by President Obama 99% to 1%....

Absolutely well said! Here is what I don't understand about the Republican voters. Most of them have to know who is backing Romney. They are at least 5 of the richest people in the country(that we know of.....SupPacs take care of hiding the identity of the others). Why does anyone suppose that these men are spending 100's of millions of dollars betting on Romney? Do the low end Republican voters really think they are doing it because they really care about the middle class? This country has become a plutocracy and those uber wealthy want to make sure that it stays that way, that they can continue to amass great wealth. Who pays for that? WE DO! That includes all you Republicans who will stand in line on November 6th. You are like sheep being led to the slaughter house and you are all going there with smiles on your faces. If you people truly think that the Romney wealth will rub off onto you, you are quite sadly mistaken, and you will take the rest of us with you......to a place worse than what this country saw in '08 and the Great Depression.

The 400 richest Americans wealth exceeds the combined wealth of the bottom 60% or 190 million. It's not hard to see how quickly a 10% tax cut promised by Romney would pay back those big buck donations.
