NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Republican strategist John Brabender discuss with MSNBC's Chris Jansing what President Obama has to do with his speech this week at the Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic convention and trying to close the enthusiasm gap… Tonight’s speaking lineup is a nod to important blocs of the Obama coalition… Michelle Obama’s moment (she speaks around 10:30 pm ET)… Julian Castro’s moment, too (his keynote address comes after 10:00 pm)… Looking at the Dems’ three major objectives for the convention… Breaking down tonight’s speakers… And GOP continues its counterprogramming in Charlotte.
In Charlotte, N.C., Michelle Obama is gearing up to speak at the first night of the Democratic National Convention, touting the president's record on women's issues amidst criticism from the Republican campaign over the state of the economy. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If there's a theme to tonight's speaking lineup here at the first day of the Democratic convention, it's a nod to all the important voting and demographic blocs of the Obama coalition. Women? You have First Lady Michelle Obama, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and Lilly Ledbetter. Latinos? Keynote speaker Julian Castro and Rep. Xavier Becerra. African Americans? The first lady and Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx. Why is tonight's coalition night so important for Democrats? Because they are facing an enthusiasm gap -- at least compared to 2008 -- with these voting blocs. In the Aug. 2012 NBC/WSJ poll, just 52% of voters under 35 and only 49% of Latinos expressed high interest in the upcoming election, which was down about 20 points for both groups at this same point in ’08. That said, almost all voting segments in the poll -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- aren’t as interested as they were in 2008. So this is the opportunity that the Democratic convention represents for the Obama camp and Democrats: maybe a final chance to rekindle some of the 2008 magic. If Mitt Romney had to close his likeability gap at last week’s GOP convention, Barack Obama and the Democrats this week have to close the enthusiasm gap.
*** Fired up? Ready to go? Obama campaign officials say their voters are getting more excited (example: the 13,000 who turned out in Colorado over the weekend) and believe that 65,000 supporters filling the Bank of America Stadium on Thursday will reflect plenty of energy heading into November -- assuming, of course, that the weather cooperates that night. (Per NBC’s Andrea Mitchell, the Obama campaign is telling reporters that Thursday night at the football stadium will happen, rain or shine, unless there is a last-minute safety issue.) “You’ll see for sure enthusiasm coming out of the convention,” one official told First Read. Enough to propel Obama to victory in two months? We’ll find out…

Women listen as Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick speaks at CarolinaFest ahead of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina September 3, 2012.
*** Michelle’s moment: Tonight’s two major primetimes speakers are First Lady Michelle Obama and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. The Obama campaign says that the first lady will serve as a character witness for President Obama, describing the tough decisions that her husband has made. The AP also notes how Michelle Obama has been perhaps her husband’s biggest defender on the campaign trail, as well as someone who has drawn contrasts with Mitt Romney, although without mentioning the GOP nominee’s name. “These days, Mrs. Obama’s speeches are peppered with references to the president’s upbringing in Hawaii, where he was raised by a single mother and his grandparents. She talks about the student loans he took out to pay for college and the years it took to pay them back.” And there isn’t a more popular Obama – the first lady’s fav/unfav rating in the July NBC/WSJ poll was 54%-26% (versus her husband’s 49%-43%).
*** Castro's moment: Prior to the first lady’s appearance, Castro will step up to one of the most prominent speaking slots in American politics when he delivers the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention tonight. The 37-year-old Harvard Law and Stanford grad will be the first Latino to deliver the address. He's largely unknown to a national audience, but he has shown an ability to deliver a strong speech that draws on his compelling personal story. The Obama campaign has watched Castro closely, made him a campaign co-chairman, and says he has been effective on the campaign trail for the president. In our August NBC/WSJ poll, Obama was leading Romney among Latinos, 63%-28%. But as mentioned above, just 49% of Latino voters were expressing a high level of interest in the upcoming election (compared with 82% for African Americans, 68% for whites, and 84% for seniors). By the way, the last time a Texas Democrat gave the keynote was Ann Richards – and the Democratic Party is hoping that, one day, Castro might win statewide office in the Lone Star State.
*** The Democrats’ three objectives: In a briefing yesterday with NBC, Obama campaign officials said that the convention has three objectives. One, to present the economic choice between the Obama and Romney visions. Two, to paint where the country is today vs. where it had been, highlighting the tough decisions Obama made (like on health care and the auto bailout). And three, to make the case where the country goes from here.
*** Tuesday’s convention schedule: Below are some of the major speakers for the first evening of the Democratic convention here in Charlotte, which gets gaveled in at 5:00 pm ET.
7:00 pm hour: Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Joe Kennedy III (whose speech is tied to a video tribute to the Kennedy family)
8:00 pm hour: Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak, Rep. Jared Polis, House candidate Tammy Duckworth, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chaffee (I), House Leader James Clyburn, and Rep. Xavier Becerra
9:00 pm hour: Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, actor Kal Penn, Obama half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and brother-in-law Craig Robinson, Lilly Ledbetter, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick
10:00 pm hour: Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, First Lady Michelle Obama
*** On the trail today: Obama campaigns in Norfolk, VA at 12:35 pm ET… Paul Ryan stumps in Westlake, OH at 12:20 pm ET and Cedar Rapids at 5:10 pm ET
*** GOP counterprogramming: At 1:00 pm ET in Charlotte, Republicans Nikki Haley, John Sununu, Jason Chaffetz, and Tim Scott hold a press conference to counter today’s activities at the Dem convention. Meanwhile, after yesterday’s back-and-forth over “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” the Romney camp is pouncing on an interview that Obama gave to a Colorado Springs affiliate, in which gave himself an “incomplete” grade on the economy. Obama added in his response, “What I would say is the steps we’ve taken in saving the auto industry, in making sure that college is more affordable, and investing in clean energy and science … those are all of the things that we’re going to need to grow over the long term.”

Again with the lack of enthusiasm false equivalency... eh FR?
Did Chuck Todd not notice the massive crowd standing in the pouring rain last night when he was on "Hardball"?
Compared to a couple dozen (mostly Obama supporters) inTampa?
Today America will get the opportunity to witness how a real convention is run, unlike the disaster in Tampa last week!
How much worse can things get for Team Willard when ultra-conservative Bill Kristol has this to
say;
Ya'll gonna throw Bill Kristol under the magical, mystery bus too?
PS: I cannot wait to see Michelle Obama represent what a genuine First Lady looks like tonight!
The Trickle Down "debate" is a big scam.
GOP KNOWS their pet theory hasn't worked for the last 30 years. And the 'job creator' lie is thoroughly worn out. For starters, despite $Trillions in tax cuts for the super-wealthy, President George Bush has possibly the weakest job creation record in our history.
Democrats go on letting GOP control the debate about economic growth and jobs, even after 'trickle down' has been thoroughly debunked. For many a moon, the topic has been wasting everyone's time.
The trickle down concept is just an excuse - for GOP, Norquist & benefactors like Adelson - to obtain more big cash for their friends.
Consumers: Small businesses will tell you that we, the consumers, are the important ingredients in this cake. Businesses and communities need us to to have living wages, and real spending money in our pockets. So we can buy and enjoy their products. And that is how we will rebuild the middle class in America.
Trickle-down is dead. Defunct. Expired. An EX-parrot.
Trickle-down is too ridiculous for Democrats to debate any more.
Clint Eastwood
I enjoyed the bit Clint Eastwood did at the convention last week, it was a real hoot. Then I started reading some of the reviews that trashed him up and down the street. Eastwood hemmed, he hawed, he rambled they said. It was bizarre and embarrassing to watch they said. Roger Ebert even tweeted that his hero was coming across as sad and pathetic. Good grief, thought I, did these people watch the same show I did? So just to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, I went back and watched the piece again – and it was even BETTER the second time around.
Eastwood's spiel is just loaded with spot-on zingers that skewer the president and the left. He talked about the 23 million folks in the country who are unemployed as being a national disgrace that was something worth crying about, then said maybe it was time for somebody else to come along and solve that problem. He alluded to all the unfulfilled promises the president has made, and questioned how such a supposedly nice guy could air such vicious attack ads. He mentioned that trying terrorists in downtown New York City was a stupid idea, and was also on solid ground when he questioned why the president announced a target date for withdrawing from Afghanistan. He mocked Biden as being the intellect of the Democratic party. He said straight out maybe it's time for a "stellar" businessman to lead the country. He brought cheers from the crowd when he said we own the country and politicians are just our employees. And he brought the house down when he said: "When somebody does not do the job, we got to let them go."
All of that is very pointed political commentary, and is only awkward and embarrassing to the targets of Eastwood's barbs. So here's the real deal folks: there was nothing wrong with what Eastwood said or how he said it. The problem is the professional left just can't stand it when someone from their turf (i.e. Hollywood) applies his tradecraft with such devastating effect against their savior president. Hence all the garbage these people are spewing to smear the traitor who dared to use his Left Coast celebrity to advance a conservative message. That's a standard tactic used by the army of slime on the left that we all should be accustomed to by now, but by provoking Clint these people just might be getting more than they bargained for.
Something about making his day.
Hiding the Extreme:
A small bit of trivia surfaced last week as top level Republicans put out the word that they are not to call President Obama a socialist. The thinking seems to be that he is not a socialist and those who call him one appears to be an extremist.
Being controlled by the conservatives, the Republican Party has taken a number of extreme positions that now, at election time, they do not want to talk about. Conservatives do not want to talk about rape victims carrying a child full-term. They do not want to talk about Todd Akin.
They want to mask their intentions to destroy Medicare as we now know it and replace it with a coupon system.
They say they like women, but take away their economic rights and reproductive rights.
Romney wants to hide his tax returns, his wealth in the Cayman Islands, his activities as CEO at Bain. It is no wonder that he tries to reintroduce himself when all the while he keeps himself cloaked in secrecy.
But the most extreme position held by the right is their disdain of President Obama. Because Obama is so well liked by a majority of Americans, the conservatives tend to keep their hatred under wraps. Now let me be clear: this is not entirely about race. The conservatives despised John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton as well. There is something about articulate, handsome, intelligent, compassionate men that drive the right wing absolutely crazy. I suspect it is called envy.
So the Republicans have nominated Willard Romney to be their standard bearer. And nobody seems to mind that the Republicans will not be voting in support of their candidate, but voting against President Obama. The reality is Mitt is a wooden, disingenuous, unlikable guy who could not win a seat on the local school board.
Well, I really lucked out this year by booking an extended Management Day weekend vacation a year ago, before I knew the dates of the DNC Jacka$$-clown convention.
I am spending (er, um….. I mean "investing") a long weekend in the Adirondack's outside of Lake Placid in a cabin that has no TV or internet, but has a stream running by it, a Jacuzzi and a really nice Weber grill on its deck, and a great view of the mountains. By arriving early on Friday I missed all the FR lefty liberal, whining, pissing, and moaning about Mitt Romney's acceptance speech. Today, I'm in town to do some shopping, check my email and catch up on some of my hometown paper's websites. One of the local papers' Sunday edition carried a George Will column on "Progressives" that starts out:
That phrase "trickle-down government" caught my eye because it defines Barry's, and most lefty liberals, fundamental economic beliefs of what America needs to do to get the economy going again: GROW THE GOVT!!
And it defines WHY Barry's policies to revive the economy have been such a dismal FAILURE. Barry's statement "The private sector is doing fine. Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government." says it all. Notice that he DIDN'T include the federal govt in his statement, because he has been GROWING the federal govt like a Kremlin Communist: Executive branch non-defense employees are up by 239,000 through 2010 compared to 2008 (Source: US Census Bureau).
So, I plan to enjoy the next few days totally DNC-free and, although I realize I will be missing out on quite a few Hillaryous laughs, it's good for my free-market capitalism soul.
I will be back in time to see King Barry accept his re-coronation at the Wall Street mega-evil BANK OF AMERICA stadium (even if the Dems pretend it's not the "mega-evil BANK OF AMERICA stadium" by pointedly not calling it by its real name LOL!!!), and to see the August jobs report on Friday.
Today the lies are formalized and codified. The Democrats have been doing nothing but telling lies leading up to the convention, today those lies are made official. Certainly some nuggets of truth seep out of their sewage, like when Governor O'Malley from Maryland says "Of course we're not better off than 4 years ago". And certainly after Obama's Chicago Way people (they are quick to 'convince' their detractors) smashed a few fingers of the good governor until he did comply a day later with the "correct" message "Of course we're much better off than we were 4 years ago". To be a Democrat you see, you must lie.
The other lies will have to do with Obama and the Democrats having any kind of a plan to fix the problems they have caused. Blaming Bush is not a plan. Spitting out inflammatory rhetoric is not a plan. Class warfare is not a plan. But these are things we will hear during the next 3 days, these are things that the Democrats will try to pass off as a plan, these are things Obama will flat out lie about in his speech.
The truth remains: The Democrats have no plan!!
What they do have is carnival barking, blaming others, pointing fingers, all rolled up in a heaping pile of deception and lies, all on display for America to see. After four years of this nonsense we now see that Hope and Change is in fact Lies and Deceptions. Lets hope the American people won't fall for the same lies this time around.
Feisty, Ron, good morning to you,
The RomneyRyan plan:
By cutting taxes for the very rich, you reduce revenues for the federal government. Then - only by cutting social programs - is it possible to balance the budget.
RomneyRyan plan ends Medicare-Medicaid-Social Security as we know it, while slashing Education by 20%.
Then, once they've cut our social safety nets, we become low-wage peons, and democracy is out the window.
GOP has been lying to the American people about this game plan - ever since Reagan dreamed up the 'trickle down' theory that wipes out the middle class.
In a side note, Reince Priebus lies as much as Lying Ryan and Willard. If the election were held today, President Obama would win in a big way. Period, end of story.
WOW!
Can't believe I agree with you yet again!
Shame people haven't figured out he "punked" you!
Clint stole 13 minutes of prime time real estate from Willard with his melodrama... lol
Oh, and, then there was three days of talking about nothing other than Clint!

Good Morning Backhouse and Feisty:
Sure is hard to keep up up with all their lies. There was no reason for Ryan to lie about his Marathon run, but he did it anyway. Sounds pathological.
Great posts, Feisty and Ron!
Reagan's 'trickle down' idea was that if the wealthy suddenly gained a lot MORE wealth, they'd use that money to hire & build more factories, and the wealth would... trickle down to ordinary workers.
1. Thus in 1981, Reagan slashed top marginal income tax rates on top income earners = from 70% to 50%.
2. And by 1988, Reagan had slashed that 50% tax rate = down to 28%.
In reality, the Reagan trickle down tax cuts contributed to the biggest debt in the entire history of the world.
How about the heartfelt thanks Willard gave to our military members Thursday night?
*crickets*
*waves to Backhouse & Ron*
I still would like to know why lyin Ryan lied about his marathon time?
Nice example he set for his "precious" children!
So looking forword to tonight's opening of the Democrats Convention. Great speakers lined up for us to enjoy. Let's hope their not filled with hate and lies like the Repugs Convention. Though I'll miss Big Clint. LOL. We should see a nice bounce up after the Convention. Unlike the disastrous "no bounce" for the Repugs. Also enjoyed Chris Mathews fine documentary last night. It was right on.
OBAMA IN 2012.
Good morning, everyone. This will probably be my only visit here this week, so I wanted to make it about something that I hold pretty near and dear to me. And that's Paul Ryan's lies about the GM plant in Janesville, which is only about 40 miles as the crow flies from where I'm sitting now.
As far as I'm concerned, this is all you need to see --
http://video.msnbc.msn.com/the-ed-show/48867244#48867244
This is a video of Ed Schultz interviewing former employees and union members of the Janesville auto plant that Paul Ryan referred to in his RNC speech. Behind them are other workers who lost their jobs in this plant closing.
These workers recount several important things. The first was that Ryan knew from the first that the plant would be closed -- way back in mid 2008, when he signed a letter acknowledging GM's decision. There is no evidence of which I am aware that Ryan ever lifted a finger during this period -- or at any time thereafter -- to prevent that plant from closing. I dare anyone out here to present such evidence.
The second is that none of these workers, who were there for President Obama's visit, thinks that President Obama made any promises when he visited that plant. It is evident from his words that he was speaking generically. Apparently auto workers are smarter than Paul Ryan.
Or is he just lying?
What am I saying? His lips were moving, weren't they?
The third is that Paul Ryan completely failed to step forward and help the autoworkers AFTER the plant closed down in December, 2008, by requesting training money or other assistance.
Where was his supposed concern for the welfare of those workers THEN?
And finally -- contrary to Paul Ryan's insinuations -- the auto bailout DID do something positive for these workers in that it allowed them to keep their pensions. Ironically, this is, of course, exactly what all the Republican naysayers -- including many out here -- have been complaining about since that time. THEY would have preferred that the shareholders keep THEIR money, while the workers would have lost their pensions.
THEY would have preferred the "managed" bankruptcy proposed by Mitt Romney. But of course there was no private capital available at that time, and so the bankruptcy would merely have resulted in liquidation -- and those workers would have lost their pensions. And Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan both know this.
How sadly ironic it is that Paul Ryan has chosen this particular way to turn history on its head to try to blame the President for what he, Mitt Romney, and so many others out here were advocating for -- and then tries to say that it was the President who hurt the workers.
He has chosen to lie about his friends and neighbors.
What kind of man is he, anyway?
But really, folks, that's just the way many Republicans think, no matter what they pretend. They don't care about workers. They don't even care about deficits, as Ryan's years in Congress during the Bush administration have proven.
Don't be fooled by the empty chair that is Paul Ryan.
Kenva=Just another l@w life racist tea bagger, stuck on stup!d. FACT.
It had been about three years since I last saw him at a meeting at Our Lady of Objectivists and Sociopaths. So I was surprised when Paul Ryan called the other day and asked if I wanted to go jogging. "Sure," I said, "I see your career has really taken off since I last saw you. We have a lot of catching up to do."
Well, he pulls up with his entourage - he has Secret Service protection now - and he's looking pretty fit and trim. "We'll have to skip the run this morning," he says, "I just ran a couple of sub-three minute miles, and I'd like a cup of coffee while we chat. (He can't drink coffee in front of his running mate, Mitt Romney.)
He catches the surprised look on my face and asks why. Don't I know he likes coffee. "Well, no it's not that," I say. "It's the sub-three minute miles. That's world-record time."
"Maybe I misstated that," he says. "Maybe it's a rounding error, but hey, what's the diff, right? Besides, there's so much more we have to talk about. Did you know my opposition has so much respect for me they call me The Lion?"
Wow, what do I say? I mean you don't want to hurt his feelings. "Gosh Paul," I say, "I think you misunderstand that. They're calling you Lyin' Ryan. They don't believe much of what you say, and since we're buddies and all, maybe I can help you a bit. Maybe it's just a bit of confusion?"
So I tell him I'm a bit confused myself, and I give him an example. This isn't some hypothetical, it's my neighbor. He's 50, he's been out of work for almost a year. He can't find work because people just aren't buying stuff these days, and though there was a bump in sales, management was hiring younger folks who work cheaper, or they're sending jobs overseas.
"Good news for him," says Paul. "He won't be paying any more Medicare taxes except for people who are 55 or over, which leaves him more money to put in his 401k." I remind him that my neighbor isn't paying any federal taxes right now because he doesn't have a job. "Hey, is capitalism great or what," he says. "That's why we're gonna cut taxes on job creators. They make jobs, so your neighbor will have a job. We just have to stop brutalizing the rich.
"Maybe he can get a job in defense. Heaven knows we have to grow that budget. Mitt is quite interested in sending more troops to the Middle East. He's still a bit upset about not being able to go to Viet Nam, you know.
"That's why your friend has to get a job," he says. "Someone has to pay taxes and the rich can't because they're creating jobs. Good grief, we've given him all the incentive we can. That's why we won't be giving him Medicare. He'll soon see the wisdom of going to work until the day he dies.
"Who knows better than I do," he says. "I voted for tax cuts, for going to war, for prescription benefits and all that other stuff that we couldn't pay for. I know how government works. Hell, I voted against the stimulus. Don't think it didn't pain me to take those funds. Maybe now you can see why government is the problem. That's why I want to continue to be a part of it. You'll be voting for me, right?"
Well, I'm every bit as honest as he is, so I say, "Sure Paul, sure!"
A 37 year old Mexican rookie whos mom was a La Raza gang activist, is the best the dems could do?
This should be a real snooze fest...They better be spiking the kool-aid with No-Doze ....Zzzzzzzzz
Albany Joe:
Believe it or not, I know quite a number of folks who are financially quite secure. In fact, my guess is a few of them make you look like an outright piker. Not one of them feels compelled to advertise their wealth. They don't blather on about what they're eating, or where they're staying. None of them feel compelled to make others envious.
Why do you do it?
BTW: I'm better off than I was 4 years ago. The stock market has been improving and investments have significantly improved since the Bush days when the stock market dropped like a rock.
I see JAS1 is wearing Steve Martin's head clamp. Wild and Crazy.
Wary to post on a thread that is sure to be collapsed soon. However, just out of curiosity I did watch the Eastwood spiel on Youtube.
Sad and disgraceful for an aging star to be cheered on by a raving crowd as he mocked and degraded an empty chair. Funny fact, many youtube videos are starting to Eastwood. Instead of being "Rickrolled" the new trick is "Eastwooding".
With that said, are you guys ready to leave amateur night behind? Don't know what "special guest" the democrats have planned but will be watching for all of the advertised talent.
From someone who didn't watch the RNC, I can deduce that its message was.
"You're a worker drone, Don't care you're on your own."
On the other hand the DNC theme will be...
"Wherever this flag is flown, WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN."
Ok...so most of my voting age life has been lived out during the era of 24 hour news media. I get most of my information on line. So I'm looking for a bit of historical perspective. I am kinda curious what the conventions used to be like and were they the primary vehicle to finding out about a candidate / party? To me, they are almost a waste of time now...little more than a pep rally and a few days to have the spotlight mostly to themselves. Most of the speeches tend to be things that we have heard on the campaign trail countless times. (This is both sides really). Every speech or question and answer session, no matter the size of the audience, is covered and preserved pretty much forever. Any thoughts?
Happy Tuesday / 4 day work week!! :-)
Like Clinton did.
So, you found Eastwood funny, Bill? I could see why he hasn't done much comedy - it ain't a strong suit! From the flyaway hair, through the rambling, a man whose talent I respect and enjoy (I stayed up too late last night watching "Joe Kidd" on AMC) came off as everyone's crazy old uncle. In the days after his "performance", I wondered if he hadn't suffered a stroke or got a little bombed before he came on. I hope his new movie is a helluva lot better than THAT!!
This is one of the reasons that polls of registered voters favor Democrats this election cycle. As for FR pointing out that enthusiasm is down for both parties, to be fair, they should have pointed out that it was down by a far greater degree with Democrats than Republicans.
Obama 2008 - "In four years, after the seas have receded, I will be known as the 'Incomplete' President"
That's probably the kindest grade Obama could achieve, and for that it's: Mission Accomplished
Joe in Albany,
Thanks for the update about your vacation at the cabin. I do believe one's soul needs to renew itself.
Maybe your Thoreau time will clear your mind too!!!
Maybe. But Clinton isn't trying to say that the elderly and the disabled need to pay for his theft.
Clinton kept tax rates where they needed to be.
I hope you teach your kids that, if you get caught stealing quarters from Granny's cookie jar, you put the quarters back. You don't just say, "Sorry, old lady, that's your problem, not mine."
Or do you?
Good Morning Frank:
Conventions used to be exciting. I recall when Barry Goldwater received the GOP nomination. People did not know the outcome ahead of time and folks would watch with anticipation to see if he would get the nomination.
And there were the great speeches from both parties. I loved listening to the speeches: Both Republican and Democrat. At the time I was a Republican, but I was impressed with the speeches from the Democrats.
Today conventions have a very different purpose. Not to convey something new, but to sell a product. I'm getting older and I enjoyed the old days. But today, I look forward for the next generation.
Obama campaign officials say their voters are getting more excited (example: the 13,000 who turned out in Colorado over the weekend) and believe that 65,000 supporters filling the Bank of America Stadium on Thursday will reflect plenty of energy heading into November
This must explain why they felt it necessary to bus in college students from across North Carolina and church members from South Carolina. They were so confident in their "energy heading into November" that they thought they should give it a boost.
If you want to know what bad things the republicans are actually doing to the Nation just read whatever JoeAnnaSmith "accuses" the democrats of doing. Karl Rove playbook Rule #1:Accuse the democrats of the republican's sins. Turn reality upside down in the hope that the simpletons known as conservatives will believe that wrong is right and that bad is good and that lies are truth
Here is the entire quote by the President, not Snuffy's sanitized version;
Former President Bill Clinton tried to get former senator Ted Kennedy to endorse Hillary Clinton for president in the 2008 election by describing Barack Obama this way:
“A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”
Come January Obama will be carrying his own bags....back to Chicago.

No.. you mean fact checking everything that comes from Vulture/Voucher and the Party of NO begins today.
It's not BLAMING Bush when its FACTS. Yes, the GOP war on the middle and lower class is not a plan. Its how they justify the redistribution of wealth from the lower/middle class to the rich and corporations.
Yes, let's hope that Americans DO NOT REPEAT the same mistake of electing another GOP into the WH. One who has a bunch of bullet points sitting out on a website and calls it a plan. One that is more concerned with my religion, who I am going to marry, and it's war on women.
A vote for the Vulture/Voucher is to return America back to the policies that got us in this mess in the first place. Obama/Biden are clearly the right choice for America.
Anna Molly, if you can only visit us once this week you made it count! Thanks for setting the facts straight from the land of compulsive liar Paul Ryan.
Interesting that the Libs want to talk about Bill "I so love women" Clinton's tax rates, but rarely do they talk about his spending rates. The rates of spending during the Clinton years were in-line with revenues taken in by the government, you see, Congress appropriates the funds and there was a GOP Congress for many of those years. You see, even with a return to the Clinton era tax rates, they would nowhere near cover the amount of deficit spending we've ween for the past 4 years, or God forbid, another 4 years of Obama.
The Obama campaign says that the first lady will serve as a character witness for President Obama...
And who will serve as her character witness? People do realize that despite her claims to the contrary, Michelle Obama is involved heavily in many of Obama's policy and campaign decisions along with her close friend Valerie Jarrett.
Couldn't agree more...
Where is Braveheart this morning, he's been stroking out over the Janesville plant for week?
With a 70% approval rating, why wouldn't we want to talk about Bill?
What living member of the GNOP has an approval rating above 30%?
JoAnnaSmith1
Maybe because there was a surplus during the last 3 years of Clinton's administration. You know, the same ones that the GOP Santorum and Gingrich both claim credit for, and the one that BUSH SPENT????
Really? So, when we have a 16 trillion dollar deficit, its CONGRESS that is responsible? Including the 19 times that the GOP voted to raise the debt ceiling during the BUSH years? Yes, the party of fiscal responsibility (or LACK their of) contributed to the debt in this country.
@AM
If you assume mid-2008 to be June/July, then there is this report in the Washington Post
Do you accept this evidence?
Yes, that's true. If only Bush could have figured out how to do it.
So what was Bush's excuse? There was a Republican Congress for 6 out of the 8 years of HIS administration, too.
Make it 12 years. But over time, they would make a pretty big dent.
That's like telling someone -- I stole $10 from you, but I can only pay you back $5, so why bother paying you back anything at all?
And you think anyone should vote for YOUR logic?
Don't forget, JoAnna, because I haven't -- you're one of those people who advocated for shareholders to be treated with preference over the GM workers. Maybe you and Paul Ryan should have a little chat about that.
See if you can get your collective stories straight.
Sure. I'll accept it. So Ryan was looking for a government bailout, same thing that he's criticizing now.
Just like he was asking for stimulus and criticizes it now.
Typical Republican hypocrite.
Does Mitt Romney know this? Because he has criticized it, too.
But as long as you're checking on Republicans begging for government handouts, why don't you ask ol' Mitt how he saved the Olympics, while you're at it.
So what will change, Alan, if Romney and Ryan are elected. Tell me that, why don't you?
And why should we trust these liars? Tell me that, too.
Trickle-down is too ridiculous for Democrats to debate any more.
Backhouse:
And yet you spend three consecutive posts debating it?
Like entitlement reform? The GOP has a plan (see 2012, 2013 Ryan budget). What's the Democrats plan? Like tax reform? The GOP is addressing the issue (Romney wants to simplify the tax code, reduce taxes and eliminate many deductions). What's the Democrats plan? Like the deficit? The GOP has a plan, not much of one, but a plan none the less - entitlement reform would be a great start. What's the Democrats plan? Like unemployment? The GOP has a plan (lower taxes, smaller government, less regulations). What's the Democrats plan?
See G-9, we have a immediate problems (unemployment), 2-year problems (the deficit) and 5 year problems (entitlement reform) and 10 year problems (the debt). What exactly are Obama and the Democrats doing about any of them? You certainly won't hear any answers from the Dems in the next three days.
Obama is asking to raise taxes only on the "rich", which would bring in an optimal, more than likely less than $70 billion dollars of tax revenue. With $1.5 trillion dollar deficits that's roughly a 4% closing of the deficit gap. Hardly any impact at all.
Like previously stated: Lies and Deception - It's the Democratic Way
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Sure, the novelty of having a new president has worn off over the past four years, so it's inevitable that the excitement is not the same this year as last. But there's another kind of enthusiasm gap other than the oneChuck Todd is referring to: the gap in enthusiasm between Obama supporters and Romney supporters. Obama supporters love the guy, but few of Romney's supporters even LIKE him. I find it hard to believe that even ultra-right conservatives could like someone as wooden, phony, and devious as Romney is.
Wow.... the first WTF moment of the DNC will be having Mooshell open it! I guess 'classy' won't be a keyword for this event!
It is ironic that the nations debt reached $16 Trillion as the DNC attempts to come up with a plausible reason Obummer should be given another 4 years.... yikes! Doesn't it remind you of a disaster movie....?
Personally, I'd rather be watching a rerun of 2016 - The Obama Story, or reread Ed Klein's 'The Amateur', lmao. Atlas Shrugged 2 is coming out as well.... a sequel to the first movie that symbolically reminded us of Barry's great idea to turn America into a communist (wealth redistribution) state! What a depressing time for America!
The war of Political Words! Just noise, nothing more, nothing less. In our current environment nothing will ever get done.
These Conventions are kind of like low self esteem seminars, just their to make the Polarized Zombies feel better about themselves.
My father would say "Believe in something or you'll believe in anything" At this point the only thing I believe in is my family and friends, grappling on the hope we will all come to our senses one day.
Good morning, some great reading here today. Feisty, Backhouse, Ron, Anna Molly, David Walker (funny but sad truth), Yellowdog Mark, Calif Tom--fine work today.
Fairfax Bill, nicely said as well but isn't Eastwood more of a Libertarian than a Republican? If so, that explains why he punked the GOP; he's really a Ron Paul kind of guy.
Bill, Fairfax VA
Jon Stewart on the Daily Show got a kick out of it, too. The same thought occurred to him as occurred to me when I heard about Eastwood's debate with an empty chair. It explains why Republican attacks on Barack Obama seem unrelated to the actual person. As Stewart put it, Republicans aren't running against the Barack Obama that exists in consensus reality; the Republicans are running against another Barack Obama that only Republicans can see.
Steven Colbert also had a great time with Eastwood's performance. Colbert had his own debate with a chair. And the chair won! Eastwood pretended that his chair was saying rude things to him. Colbert pretended that the chair he debated was reciting the accomplishments of Barack Obama like the Lily Ledbetter law protecting equal pay for workers, saving the auto industry, etc. The crowd was cheering by the time the skit ended.
If you want to know whose lying, go to politifact.com or factcheck.org and find out!!
The math is all but done. You'll find Republicans saying this week that Obama lied, yet according to politifact.com Romney only tells the truth 29% of the time.
You'll find that the only campaign with a plan to fix the economy is Obama. Romney/Ryan won't give you their plan. They just say "trust us".
We already know that the Republicans will turn Medicare into a voucher program and make seniors pay more for their health care later on.
Obama wants to take care of the middle class, not the 1%.
I'm enthused enough. A guy from the financial sector that brought this country to it's knees is a con man that kills jobs for personal gain. Romney and Ryan can kiss my ass. There's a greater likelihood of that than anything they claim passing factcheck.org. Even Fox News called Ryan a blatant liar. You know that you've reached the bottom when that happens.
Obama-Biden 2012
Really? Not the stock holders. They took the risk, they take the loss. That's their problem. The bondholders are another matter. They invested in the company with an agreement they would be paid a certain amount for the use of their money. To have the government eliminate them from receiving compensation as is done in a normal bankruptcy is to say to investors "The rules are this way unless we (the government) say otherwise".
The Left is always complaining that "We need to invest in America!" Sure, people will do that, as long as the government doesn't change the rules mid-stream and for political purposes. But in this environment, with the hatred of business by the Obama administration, who would take the risk of making that investment? We see the results, lack of investment, lack of jobs.
We might get some dialogue between the Administration and Congress. We might get reform of the tax code. We might actually get a true discussion on entitlement reform. We might get a serious discussion on deficit reduction.
I am not saying that this would not happen in an Obama second term but I see no evidence based on the first term.
JoAnnaSmith1
You mean, GET rid of SS/Medicare, no social welfare programs, and increase CORPORATE welfare? I am sure Vulture/Voucher have a plan to increase the amount on checks already written to OIL corporations that are already making record profits. How about the tax credit that is given to companies that export jobs to other countries? Lets not forget their plan to increase military spending, I am sure we have more wars to fight and $400.00 toilet seats to buy right?
LOL. Simplify the tax code so he can continue to pay less than working americans. Funny, Obama went to Congress in February offering to keep lower corporate taxes in exchange for closing tax loopholes. The GOP (as usual) said NO. Sounds like Romney is taking the OBAMA Plan and trying to put his name on it.
Finally you agree, the GOP has NO real plan. First, CONGRESS is responsible (as you commented earlier in this entire thread) for the debt. To reduce the debt, doesn't this mean the GOP in Congress would actually have to work with the Democrats and the soon to be re-elected president Obama? I am also confused with Romney, in 2008 he said it wasn't the responsibility of the federal government to create jobs, now in 2012, he said he would do everything to create more jobs. Can you help me understand Romney?? I am confused.
They should just let Biden speak. 'We gots Bin Laden'.
Good Morning everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day weekend since it could be one of the last you will ever celebrate if the GOP regains the White House and takes control of the Senate.
Labor Day celebrates the American Labor Movement and the working people of this nation. Those of us who do the real work, who get our hands dirty doing the jobs no one-percenter would ever stoop to do.
Since the GOP has declared war on the Labor Movement and over the last couple of years has stepped that up to a full-scale frontal assault, I doubt they will stop there. The Labor Day holiday will become a thing of the past if they regain power in Washington. It's will be a small loss, but significant.
I'm not going to dwell on that this morning. Nor am I going to to take shots a "Lyin' Ryan" or Mitt "Ho-hum" Romney.
I will point out that I predicted Mitt would get a small bump from the Ryan nomination (I was right) and a small bump from the convention (again, I was right, yay for me). Is it because Mitt is a snoozer or are the pundits and pollsters right and everyone is already decided and locked in?
This week will tell.
The Democrats have an all-inclusive, celebration planned and I'll be really disappointed if someone doesn't come out and talk to an empty chair.
But the thing I'm looking forward to is the polling following the President's acceptance speech on Thursday and the over all bump the President gets following the convention.
If he gets a bigger, significantly bigger, bump in the polls than Romney got then I think we know what November will look like. (I predict he will get a significant bump and will leap ahead of Romney in most of the polls).
But if he gets a mild or small bump like Romney, then we've got work to do. The margins will be slim and we're going to need EVERY ONE of those few undecided voters.
For you junkies, enjoy the convention. I'm not that interested. I didn't watch a single minute of the GOP hootenanny and I won't watch any of the Dem party either. I've got other things to do.
But I will be waiting impatiently for the polling at the end of the week. That will tell the tale.
For all my Democrat friends, have a great week. For all my GOP friends (yes, I have GOP friends) let's wait for the end of the week and see where everybody shakes out. If the President gets a good bump in the polls, I'm sorry to tell you I think your guy is in trouble. If not, you may a shot and I'll be making plans to move to Costa Rica.
BUT....as we all know, it ain't over, 'till it's over. I'll standing by in a safe, undisclosed location.
Obama/Biden 2012
Oh, and last night I got to see the re-runs of Friday nights Colbert Report and the Daily Show. I have not laughed that hard in years. When Colbert brought out his special guest, Clint Eastwoods Chair I laughed until I hurt. And when John Stewart declared Eastwood's performance as "THE OLD MAN AND THE SEAT" I really thought I would die laughing. Very funny stuff. They both really knocked it out of the park
Having Michelle (rated the worst FL in Presidential history) open the Democratic National Conspiracy is appropriate I think. It's a subliminal reminder to the nation that their platform for open abortions can have its advantages. Having sleepy Joe Biden close the damn thing would be a nice bookend, eh?
Two questions:
What's the over/under line in Las Vegas of what the National Debt will be at the end of this 'Burning Nation' event?
How many unemployed North Carolina citizens will be paid to fill seats and listen to the lies?
Yes, by having the same radical ideologies in both places.
Yes, like the Ryan Plan's tax cuts for the rich paid for by the lower and middle classes, that's real reform.
Reform? Must be codeword for 'elimination'.
Yeah, it will be along the lines of "deficits don't matter", that's why Romney's proposals are currently computing to increase the deficit by about $300B.
You guys are all too fast for me. I get on at 10am and I'm already 50th. :- (
Anna, great replies for JAS.
There was a projected debt payoff by 2008 in 2000. No tax cuts, no wars, no MC Part D, we would have been debt free.
The whole "who's in charge of congress" is a dumb argument. Deficits are controlled by the economy, mostly, and budgets are driven by the President. This president has advocated the stimulus, Obamacare, extended unemployment and Payroll tax reduction. All of those together are about $1T, the other $3T in new debt is simply a revenue problem.
Check out http://zfacts.com/p/57.html for an explanation "Congress is not the problem."
No it's not. The President is too. He can veto bills you know. How many spending bills has Obama vetoed? What policies has he put forward to reform entitlements? What policies has he put forward to modernize the tax code? What is his "All of the above" energy policy, all of the above except for what the Greens say not to do is more like it?
Is the GOP responsible for the debt? In part. So are the Democrats. So why is it you on the Left want to send even more money to them to spend? How about we send them less money, demand reform of the tax code, demand reform of entitlements, and demand that they spend within their means. That's all we've seen with 4 years of Obama is Bush spending policies that have been super-sized. You can be critical of the GOP for their spending, but you also need to understand and admit that the Democrats have taken it to another level.
Amy,
Many thanks for the inside story. The RomneyRyan Lie factory have the corner on lying about lying.
Paul Ryan supported turning Social Security over to Wall Street, 3 years before the worst stock market crash in 50 years.
One more nail for posterity.
Clint wasn't the only actor confused and losing it at the Republican convention. I've been wondering for awhile who in the past Willard reminds me of and then when he spoke on stage it hit me. Hymie! Google "Get Smart Robot". Coincidence? I don't think so. I can't belive they haven't upgraded that $10.00 gearbox after all these years!
The extremest liberals, who call themselves Democrats, on this board really crack me up. They're totally into the "bricka'-bracka', brika'-bracka', sis-boom-bah; Barry O', Barry O,' RAH-RAH-RAH, that is the Obama campaign.
I'm talking about the same people who threw the 2000, and 2004 elections to George Bush by supporting Ralph Nader and other third-party-pukes who had no chance of winning, and then coming back after eight (8) years of Bush's benightedness, and screaming about wanting change, and hope and all the crap that Obama-shama-lama-ding-dong sold us in 2008.
They refuse to see past the big, fancy, tele-prompter-induced words, and all the phony glitz-and glitter associated with his appearances .
They refuse to look for, or demand substance.
They refuse to acknowledge that unemployment went up AFTER Obama was elected.
The refuse to acknowledge that he hasn't fixed the economy in four years, as he promised he would.
The refuse to acknowledge that he gave federally guaranteed loans to his biggest campaign contributors, after saying he wouldn't do things like that.
They refuse to admit that the economy we're in, is destroying people's lives, and ruining families.
They refuse to demand that he DO SOMETHING about the price of gasoline, a commodity that is VITAL to the day to day operations of people all across this country.
They refuse to acknowledge that Americans are working longer, harder hours for less pay and benefits.
These people are worse than alcoholics in denial! They want the rich to pay their way for them and they demonize people who worked hard for what they have, and who want to keep as much of it as possible.
This country cannot afford four (4) more years of Oba-nomics; four (4) more years of high unemployment, obscene gas prices, stagnant "growth," and a "don't bother working for it, just demonize the wealthy until they give it to you for free" attitude.
We need real leadership. We need someone who'll work for the people, and leave his ego on the doorstep.
We need Mitt Romney, now.
So, as you watching the Democrat convention tonight, ask yourself this question; are you really better off than you were four years again, or are you worse off than before? If you're better off, then by all mens support and vote for Obama, and watch him destroy our country.
But, if you're not better off, if you're struggling to make ends meet as so many people are, and if you think this country deserves, and can do better than what Obama has given us; then, come along with me, and give your support to the Romney-Ryan ticket this November.
DEMOCRATS FOR ROMNEY, 2012!
And to tell workers who invested THEIR sweat equity into that company with the "promise" that they would receive pension benefits as part of their compensation ISN'T breaking the rules?
Well, then, that completely explains why Romney isn't in jail for when Bain raided GS Technologies for $50 million in "profits," forcing the federal government to come in and bail out the pension fund to the tune of $44 million.
I guess it's all relative, isn't it?
I am the wrong color for Democrats. Take your pick White Hispanic, White Latino, White ... and, that is only so far.
Discrimination is so ... yesterday.
After being a lifelong Democrat, this year I've changed to Unaffiliated leaning Republican. Republicans had an awesome convention with women from all types of high ranking positions ... governors, senators, business owners, etc.
But Obama's plans are stellar and save the country trillions right? Jean Luc you disappoint
reform is code for elimination? only in libland. Why is it that you hard lefties can't discuss issues without polarizing it? I get it Jean Luc, you think Nancy Peloski and the 'Unemployment is the best form of stimulus, is a great plan.
There is no enthusiasm among independents, no Republicans will vote for Obama this time, and many of the people that where into the HOPE and CHANGE mantra, know that there is NO HOPE NO CHANGE with Obama. Most young people do not believe they will be better off than their parents, most people don't even think about the a American dream to have their own roof, more than 60% of the people believe we are in the wrong direction. This election is about a referendum for Obama. According with Biden we a better off because Osama is dead, how much Osama will contribute to a better economy, how much the death of Osama contribute to reduce the unemployment , he is a real joke. Nothing new from Obama this time around .
Even a great convention can't mask obama's failures as president. Trying to get the dems hyped up to go vota for obama will only work maginally as so many are unemployed. obama will lose to an x gov. this Nov.. Based on the way obama has been dividing our nation I doubt he was any good as a community org..
60th, I guess to boot...
JAS, bondholders take a risk too. That's why they get paid interest higher than FDIC insured.
I for one think the workers and thier pensions deservedly get higher ranking. If only because a defaulted pension flips over to the taxpayers.
Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. One of our closest allies. Under the bus! Obama says he does not trust Israel. I do not trust Obama. Israel has been one of our strongest allies and he abandons them at their time of need. Just like Obama will abandon YOU at your time of need, IMO.
Yes, I am better off then I was 4yrs ago with vetter pay and education thanks to the US Government's investment in education in 2009!!
So the numbers the Republicans are putting out there explaining how things were when President Obama took office are mostly taken out of context. They are stating that his first day in office should be used to judge him when his policies didnt start to take effect entil May or June. Gas was at a low price because the economy was in the toilet and the president cant do much to affect this one way or another anyway.
So in closing, Romney we are still waiting on those TAX RETURNS!!
Alan -- What do you find appealing about the word might? Forget might and look at what they are saying.
Romney claims he will add 12 million after 4 years. Guess what? The CBO and several financial analysts say NO MATTER who is President 12 million jobs will be added in the next 4 years.
Romney claims he will bring down unemployment to 6% by the end of 4 years. Really? That's the exact number the experts and the CBO say unemployment will fall to by 2016 regardless.
TAX CODE reform? Forget about it. Romney has no intention of eliminating deductions now. To avoid doing the hard work he is now suggesting a cap and choose.
What of the carried interest loophole he enjoys? Well, the devil is in the details according to his campaign. The devil is in the details it seems, those that enjoy that break are stealing from our treasury.
What leads you to believe you might get a discussion on deficits Alan? Ryan and Romney's plans add to the deficits.
And on and on it goes.
Ah, but you see, that's the whole beauty of it from the bondholders' perspective. Having preference in bankruptcy, they really take no risk, pay hardly any taxes on their earnings, and the pension burden shifts back on the the rest of us stupid working stiffs through our tax burdens. We are then forced to suck it up for the lousy decisions made by management, while they walk away with golden parachutes.
Any way you cut it, the aristocracy makes out and the average working person pays for it.
The workers work at the pleasure of the investors/owners. That's the agreement. From working the counter at McDonald's to the managers at Apple. Or do you expect where you work your "sweat equity" is worth something other than a paycheck if they decide to lay you off? Just what do you think it's worth? Is it worth the government coming and bailing you out even though your business model has failed? And where would that money to bail you out come from?
You see AM, just like with the government union employees pensions are bleeding both federal and state government budgets dry, badly run businesses that make unrealistic pension agreements with their union workers won't contribute enough to support their pension funds. You better make note of your companies pension contributions and make sure they are funded well. If not, maybe you should look for another job.
If there are pension funds available, as there should be, and the company goes bankrupt, there is an government agency called the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) that manages those funds.
So what exactly are you complaining about?
Green Rube,
Ah, I love the smell of RACISM in the morning. It smells like VICTORY! (You may quote me)
Michelle Obama rated the "Worst" FL in history? BY WHOM? The Shamrock Society? Sein Finn? The boys down at the pub? By YOU, the mental leprechaun of County Cork?
(The best Barry Fitzgerald imitation ever) "Now me boy-o what's fine Irish lad like yourself doin' on this thread at this time o' the mornin' eh? Just waiting for the pub to open are you? Well, do yourself a little favor and us as well and go watch that DVD of THE QUIET MAN until O'Shaunessy's opens at 10, eh?"
With apologies to my Irish Grandmother.
Obama/Biden 2012
I guess the Delphi workers didn't sweat enough.
obama needs to get used to the fact that it's him that will have to go sit in the back of the bus now while a REAL leader brings the dems and repubs togeather to bring about REAL CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!.
What exactly is your problem AM? The deal is the deal, if you don't like it, don't invest. Bonds have nothing to do with pensions, they have to do with capital investments. Many municipal bonds, that's government bonds, are tax free. That's to give incentive for people to invest.
What exactly do you suggest we raise the taxes to on muni's? Think that will help or hurt investments in government bonds? If you have a 401K, you more than likely can select these types of bonds to invest in. They are safe and secure investments relative to the stock market. Do you invest this way or do you make sure you don't because you are so philosophically against it?
That certainly happened with GM. We taxpayers are anywhere from $30-$45 billion in the hole for that deal. You were against that right, not wanting to have to"suck it up" and foot the bill? And yet that is a big rally cry for the Liberals, "bin Laden is dead and GM is alive" it goes I believe. I would imagine you cringe when you hear those words, the government having to take over for the lousy decisions made by that company.
Considering we have been Israel's "big brother" for years it's a nice change to ask them to stand on their own two feet. However that doesn't change the fact that what you said didn't happen.
@DCIA
So, as the status-quo is painful, and according to you Romney will be as ineffectual, why don't we just eliminate the position of President? It seems it has outlived it usefulness. Or, we could simply elect a figurehead "head of state' like Austria.
How about we elect someone who has managerial experience. Can run a large bureaucracy. Is able to deal with a legislative that disagrees with him. Even now the guy we have is still doing on the job training.
Romney has experience in harnessing talent, not competing with it.
A first lady with an approval rate of 54% , say it ain't so! That has to be the lowest ever recorded. I wonder if she will be proud tonight?
Julian Castro is the perfect keynote speaker for the Democrats. He is the embodiment and personification of the tax and spend liberal who's goal it is to grow government into a micro-managing all-powerful nanny-state. "Forget governmental and constitutional boundaries.", he says, "Those are just mere obstacles to get around and/or ignore!" Like I said the perfect keynote speaker...a quasi-socialist. And yes, "SA" stands for San Antonio, so I'm speaking from first hand experience.
skip - Rub of the Green took a poll of all the racists he knows (which is of course, EVERYONE he knows). When someone posts such total nonsense they are not worth the time to read.
First Lady Michelle Obama is one of our finest First Ladies and represents the US very well. She is admired by our allies and is looked up to by young girls of all races. She is a wonderful role model.
Obama/Biden 2012
Shouldn't you be just as excited about Obama now as you were in 2008 when you voted him into office?
- the youth vote is back living with their parents looking for work
- the African American voter block does NOT support gay marriage - you sure you have 95% of them coming out to vote?
- the uber left thinks Obama has been too conservative!!!
Unquestionably an enthusiasm gap for Obama's base. There wouldn't be an article on MSNBC if it weren't so ridiculously obvious.
skip Nicholson, Oklahoma City
Hey skip, you are the one that is all for martial law under the Obama Admin. You are the type that would love to see the FBI fill the role of the KGB or Gestapo right? Stop with the faux racism. You sound like backhouse that pathetic puke. You couldnt smell your own jockstrap let alone racism. You lefties are hardly color blind.
Hey seeking you think the GOP is racists? why is it that you liberal posters have a Klan house to hide in and discuss 'stratagem'? keep drumming up false racism, the only ones listening are you KKK libsrus tools.
HAHAHAHA!!!!! So many women are so disgusted by the Dems/Obama's attack on women they wouldn't cross the street for him, let alone vote for him!
I don't understand why the DNC is having a convention. Everything they say will be lies and spin, well, other than taking out Bin Laden. There is no one else to blame but themselves. I wish we could go back to a time when Libel was pursued on a regular basis. Just for example, I heard on CNN last night some Dem talking about how the Republicans want to take us back to the Bush policies. Funny thing is, the Republicans haven't said that. Only the Democrats. Yet there are the uninformed who will repeat this crap because it is on TV. Let alone those who thing the Liberal comediennes are telling the truth as well. It is pathetic when a party supporters think comedy acts are reality. Has our country become that stupid? I know I won't be watching the convention, I can't take that much self-serving crap.
Romney/Ryan - the only hope for America in 2012!
P.S. Filling sheeple's heads with BS will not close the enthusiasm gap, only fire up the drones, and further incite all others to vote for Romney.
All I can say is that I've not lost my enthusiasm for such marvelous Obama accomplishments as 8.3% unemployment, $4.00 gasoline, and a $16 trillion debt (one third of which belongs directly to Barry)!
Alan -- Romney has experience in gaming the system. He has experience in sucking the wealth and value out of a company. He has experience in relying on government subsidies and handouts. That's not a record I would be proud of.
JoAnnaSmith1,
Please stop! This is becoming painful to watch.
See, the problem is you are trying to talk "Big People Talk" to the special folks on the FR board. It is an utter waste of your keyboard wear-n-tear factor.
They do not know any more about bondholders & shareholders than they do at-will employment or ambition. This is a train wreck.
Remember watching that "special" kid eat his color crayons?.......yep, they're unwrapping more sticks of color as we type!
It's all going in one eye and out the other.
Maryland DEMOCRAT governor O-Malley says we are not better of then 4 years ago!

Yeah, I agree, I think she is one of the all-time finest First Lady's we have ever had. I have NEVER heard of any poll that ranked her as "the worst". That is just racist BS and I had to call out the little green man on it.
Sheesh. The nonsense they put out. He is on "ignore" now and I won't be bothered by him anymore.
Obama/Biden 2012
Nice points on the "Trickle Down" economic theory Brickhouse!
The theory didn't work for Ronald Reagan, didn't work for George Bush Sr. (who called it "Voodoo economics") and didn't work for George Bush Jr. So why would the Republicans keep going back to it? It let's do two things; 1. ring the Ronald Reagan bell (the last Republican that anyone holds in any esteem at all...even though his economic policies failed) and 2. it keeps a core constituency of the Republican party contributing (i.e. the rich).
I hope the convention will put a stake through the heart of these policies once and for all, with a significant heaping of derision that it deserves.
Obama throw US under the bus in his apologetic tour in Berlin.
Obama throw under the bus his beloved Pastor under the bus to immaculate himself
Obama throw under the bus his " racist gramma" who scare of blacks.
Obama throw under the bus Rezco who made land deals in Chicago.
Obama throw under the bus his friend Bill Ayers. Obama throw under the bus Van Jones , kicking him out the White Hose because he was too radical .
Obama will throw Michelle under the bus if it is necessary in order to get elected
JoAnnaSmith1; Having read your posts for quite some time now I have come to the conclusion that you are definitely a republican but by no means are you a conservative. The 2 no longer go hand in hand and that in a nutshell explains the demise of the once grand Old Party
So is Michelle going to kill a chicken and read the entrails on stage? It's going to take more than "Magic" to pull Obama's butt out of the fire. Obama's been relying on the power of illusion but his magic act isn't even good entertainment any more. Even for those that want to believe.
We can't change the past. Look at what's happening today.
Bloomberg just reported that over 46 million people are on food stamps. The highest number ever.
Everything stops at the Presidency. America needs a new leader come November.
So true.
I like Alan NJs idea, to make the office of the President be a figure-head position. It seems 4 years ago Obama had all the answers to the all the issues of the day, and the Liberals rallied around and supported Obama. Today? It's Congresses fault, Congress only has the power. It's those business owners that are to blame, not paying their fair-share in taxes. It's what was inherited that was at fault, problems too immense for anyone to comprehend and deal with in any way. But Obama? He's powerless. So why have him?
Obamney 2012 !
The Military Industrial Complex must prevail !
Wars, Federal Reserve secrecy, bank bailouts, protectionism, financing foreign governments/armies/warlords, war on drugs continuation, subsidies to corporate giants, world policing, censorship, and much more... Because Liberty is a scary thing.
And whoever tells you otherwise is a terrorist
thats because you are a coward. But you have the right to be ignorant. Rest assured skip you have the support of the FR left of Castro libbies
Democrat recipe for closing the enthusiasm gap: Compare Republicans to Goebbels but claim you are not comparing them to Nazis.

You forgot the second sentence in Joe Biden's "bumper sticker" slogan: General Motors is alive. Biden tried to come up with something that will fit on a bumper sticker, but even two sentences is more than can be comprehended by some people on the lunatic fringe of the ultra-conservative way-out far right.
JS1, that is because Obama is the Wizard of Oz. More like a montebanc. No substance, no solutions.
Dogs and ponies, smoke and mirrors. Biggest sleight of hand comes from the Obama admin
I just saw "Obama's America 2016," I dare any of you Barry subjects to watch the film. If you do have the guts to watch it and still say your are voting for Barry, you have serious mental problems and there is no hope for you.
Feisty, your grabbing at straws, when all the defense you Barry subjects and Barry himself can do is make light of and make jokes about what the opponets are saying and doing it is evidence you have no defense.
Wow Lots of post here, allot of them by the same paid posters that work for MSNBC propaganda team but still allot of post. I just want to ask a few of you hardcore Msnbc posters where do you guys get the info to make up ant twist everything, and why do you fabricate your facts and avoid the whole issue, you twist and you turn things to the point they are un recognizable and you are still blaming Bush, I would like to ask one political question make that a few first, what did Obama mean when he told Putin that he could be more flexible after the Elections ? second if Obama wants more years of tax returns to be shown then why doesn't Obama show what he is hiding in all the sealed years of his life and his affiliation with known communist and other shady persons and groups, enemies of the state and so forth? and third just what is his plan, he never gives a plan, and when he sends a proposal to congress not even his own party will back it, why is it just to far out their? Ive been following his involvements with the UN, things are getting real scary on that issue. this man is not on team America he is somewhere else and America is in his way. I do believe that this election is probably going to be the most important election America has ever had, maybe even the world. I cant tell people who to vote for all I can say is forget the BS and choose wisely. Kruschev stated in the 60's that America will be destroyed from within, its a matter of time, I think this is about to happen and it only takes a few executive orders the ducks are almost in line, I fear in less then two years we will no longer be a sovereign nation. allot of what we see and read in the news is theatrics to keep our attention elsewhere while the stage in this three ring circus is being reset for the next show. if this does infact come to be (2016) then Obama has the most to gain and Romney has the most to lose, Romney will try and prevent it and Obama will try to rush it, That might be what this election is about.
2016 is the rights version of Farenhype 911. Both suck.
sure is. how bout the bondholders and taxpayers? So you think that was a brillant statement and a defining moment for the O admin. must be a harsh life living as an Obamabot
Exactly!
If they think that poser, Mitt "the Weather Vane" Romney, is likable than my question to them is... What speech were they watching? Mitt's phony facial expressions were a hoot! Where did he learn that? The GW / Darth Cheney School of Smirking. He, he, he if I can just get them to buy this load of...
I agree that there is little excitement to be had for Democrats this election. With Obama'a poor record of helping any of our economic problems brought on by his former Democratic Presidents Poilcies. Obama has done nothing to bring back jobs that NAFTA sent overseas. Obama has done nothing to help people who lost jobs and now face foreclosure as a result. Obama has done nothing to provide affordable healthcare but rather continue to make claims that are refuted all the while placing a $700 billion dollar tax on the economy at a time when it's about to colapse. They are right the democrats don't have much to be excited about. If you add Biden to the mix most Democrates most likely want to hide in the shadows this election.Even the man who seconded Obama's nomination in 2008 has fled to the other side.
anyone who thinks this election is a given for the encumbent is wrong.
Q22, proof that at least someone is telling the truth.
JoAnna, dear. Those workers had CONTRACTS. You DO know what a contract is, don't you, JoAnna?
Or are contracts with investors the only ones that matter?
And I believe that those workers' "sweat equity" is what gets cars built. Tell you what. Why don't you in the leisure class try getting them built without it?
Because, pretty soon, the way things are going, that's back where we're going to be.
And won't you just moan when the farmers won't farm, the pickers won't pick, the packers won't pack, the haulers won't haul, the stockers won't stock, the checkers won't check, the baggers won't bag, the chauffeurs won't drive, the cooks won't cook, the butler won't set the table, and all your fancy words about the "pleasure" of the owners and investors won't put food on their plates.
I believe that at GS Technologies, it wasn't just a matter of managing funds. Bain made away with the $50 million in "profits," leaving nothing in the pension fund for the federal government to manage, which meant that taxpayers had to foot that $44 million bill.
I'm surprised YOU aren't complaining about it, JoAnna.
If that kind of immoral behavior is how YOU define capitalism, then why am I not surprised?
Tax Man --
That's quite a bit of buffoonery, coming as it does from the self-styled ruler of all the world.
Napoleon's got nothing on you, Tax Man. (Luke 2:1)
Talk about lipstick on a pig, They’re going to need a tube of lipstick that the size of Manhattan.
And where does obama get off saying the GOP doesn’t have a plan to reduce the debt…? Really?? obama called bush “un-American” for raising the dept. obama has DOUBLED the debt that bush had. SO WHAT IS HIS PLAN TO REDUCE THE DEBT??? tax the rich?
Certainly. Those are the things that no longer matter in a bankruptcy. Going broke is hard AM. Many of the state workers in California and Illinois as well as other states with huge deficits in their government worker pension programs will soon find out about this fact. No worries about Wisconsin though, it doing fine, and I'm certain you're celebrating that fact.
Bondholders get the first bite of the apple when a bankruptcy occurs. Any sales of capital of the business goes to them first. Those are the rules. The pension fund of the now defunct business gets taken over and manged by the government, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGP) to be exact.
Fine. They can live off the government programs. It's all free.
Thanks for asking. The answer is "Yes."
http://zfacts.com/p/1195.html
Made mostly by people who are in position to buy the bonds.
See if the rabble cares two whits about that when the time comes, JoAnna.
But what will YOU live on, JoAnna?
Or will you eat your money? Because I'm sure YOU'RE way too proud to take government assistance.
And even that still depends on workers, doesn't it?
Sucks to be you, JoAnna.
hey legal beagle, what makes you presume that i am all for taxes? my moniker. pfft stick to telling lies. but if its such buffoonery, then why do you lefties continue to avoid reality? smoke and mirrors. Youre right Napoleon had nuffin on Augustus. He found a city of brick and left it in gold. John 3:16
John B -- Funny how the right ignores the fact they are THE biggest contributor to the debt. Nice post.
The debt and deficit? Republicans BUILT THAT!
Obama and unemployment, economy and reality "I ran from that but give me 4 more"
My, the anger. It's tough to get it stuffed back down your throat isn't it AM? I see you have conveniently dodged the pension issue and the PBGP, your initial rant. It's tough to be wrong, isn't it AM?
Your scare tactics are pathetic. Please, show us a country were the workers just quit and went home. Show us one example. One. You don't live in Wisconsin, you live in some fantasy world of your own making. And I wish you could make a point of some type, still waiting on that.
Not after seeing the beating you just took. And didn't you say you had time for "one post"? Yet another lie.
AM can take a beating like a rented mule in her sleep. sheesh come on JS1
Tax Man --
Sigh.
Or are you really for voting rights instead?
Either way, it seems Megalomania R Us.
Well, I guess we can tell from your angry tone and the number of misstatements in your post, just who "beat" whom.
I didn't say just one post. I said I would only be here today. Why on earth would I come back tomorrow?
It makes me SO sad that you don't love me, JoAnna. But don't worry. You'll always have Tax Man to keep you warm.
Charming. You and JoAnna seem to be made for each other.
Well. No need to belabor the point. We've come to the part of the program where I curtsy gracelessly, as always, and make my exit.
You two deserve to be left alone.
AM its all cute, although im not religious so sorry i missed the whole bible thing. Frankly it's really a matter of caring which I dont. But seriously you're using the bible as a source of history, albeit a skewed one LOL. surely you jest. Megalomania? You mean like Ceasar Nero or Caligula? I think one can compare our current Imperator with one of them if not both. I think in general you assume by loosely correlating Caesar to me personally that i am all for taxes. Poor AM doesnt understand the difference in economies, social order and well being a monarchy 2000+ years ago in Rome.
I got an idea AM, why dont you string together some BS on how the GOP caused the collapse of Rome while youre at it. It will be really fun to read.
So if you must exit gracelessly please do it with full blinders and complete ignorance, its befitting of you.
So, it's somehow MY fault that you named yourself after the best-known Tax Man in history?
Who's calling whom "ignorant"?
Yep and his backers are all those union and teachers pension funds. See my post #2.14.
Great. So now every subsequent president can blame Bush/Obama for the fortune in interest they have saddled future generations with. Thanks for making my point that Obama is fiscally irresponsible and is leaving the next generation with a terrible burden.

An "enthusiasm" gap, huh .... maybe the Democrats will spike their "blue" koolaid with "red bull" and see if it keeps them awake ! LOL !!
The DNC connvention has not even started yet and Bill CLinton has already told a "whopper" as he shills for Obama. In a TV ad for Obama, Slick Willie has stated that Republicans wanted tax cuts for the richest Americans and he said something about where that already got us. Only one problem there Willie, as you know, the Bush tax cuts lowered taxes on ALL levels of taxpayers .... at least those who were actually PAYING TAXES !
So, in simplest form he lied... because the 15% tax rate was lowered to 10% and so on. Certainly those who were at the 15% beginning rate would not be considered the WEALTHIEST AMERICANS !
LOL ! The Demmie convention has not yet started.... but the Demmie lies have !!!
You fail to realize that Clinton didn't spend so much money because the ECONOMY WAS BOOMING. Regardless of the fact that it was a bubble, spending on social programs went down because of the economic boom (and because of welfare reform). Now, the economy is NOT booming, as you Republicans continue to say. What you fail to mention is that when the economy isn't booming, deficits are naturally high. I would much rather have higher tax rates and lower spending then lower tax rates and lower spending.
Yea, the only dialogue between Congress and the Administration is what the Tea Party leaders will be telling Romney what they want him to sign. As for tax reform, entitlement reform, and deficit reduction, Paul Ryan's plan is nothing of the sort. Tax reform tends to be revenue-neutral, and consists of changing marginal and effective rates via base broadening and rate changes. Ryan's plan adds $4.6 trillion in deficits (as he is not specific on which deductions he would cut, and it is doubtful that he would find enough to make it tax-neutral for the middle class and the poor) and doesn't balance the budget until 2030 at the least. The tax reform system is a sham; rates are already at the lowest in 50 years, why would making them any lower help??? All it does is tax the poor and give to the rich with a 28% tax cut for the rich. As for entitlement reform, all it does is shift costs to seniors. THAT is not entitlement reform; that is outright extortion. Romney and Ryan will never reduce the deficit; assuming that Romney will cut taxes by $5 trillion, extend $4 trillion in tax cuts, and add $200 billion to defense, the deficit will increase by $5.2 trillion. The deficit will most likely increase by about $2.5 trillion because the Ryan cuts aren't completely phased in over the next decade.
Actually, considering the impending fiscal cliff, deficit reduction and tax reform (along with partial entitlement reform) could happen by early 2013 with the growing popularity of Simpson-Bowles, which includes revenue-positive tax reform, reliable deficit reduction, and entitlement reform. I see no evidence of the economy booming under a Romney term.
For all you self-avowed "fiscal conservatives" who are backing Romney, I wonder why you are so willing to put party before actual numbers. The Romney/Ryan plan would cut taxes by around $5 trillion over the next decade; that's $5 trillion over the next decade. Assuming that they increase the defense budget by a net of $200 billion after reversing the automatic defense cuts, that would increase the deficit roughly $12 trillion over the next decade. Now, if they are going to cut spending, they will have to cut it by around 27-40% for each program (non-security discretionary programs) due to a lack of action on Medicare and Social Security in the first decade. How could any fiscal conservative support this??? The Ryan budget doesn't balance the budget until 2030 at the most!; Simpson Bowles does it by the end of the decade!!! Only an idiot would think that Romney and Ryan will balance their budget by 2016.
And secondly, why the hell would any rational-thinking person think the economy would get better under Romney??? The economy is already scheduled to improve by the late teens regardless of who is in office. But Romney could easily botch the recovery with his premature austerity measures. While his spending cuts aren't major in fiscal terms, economically they are DISASTROUS. And we ALREADY KNOW that tax cuts don't fix the economy; for God's sake we went through 12 years of the Bush tax cuts, and where the hell did that take us????
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Great point Freshiee. The cost of the safety net increases when times are tough while revenue shrinks. During flush times the cost of the safety net decreases and revenue expands.
It was a good system and it worked well until Republicans created a massive, permanent structural revenue shortage in 2001. We deficit-spent massively while the economy was in expansion, which both reduced our ability to properly deal with the recession and caused a further expansion in the deficit when the safety net was most needed.
So much for the myth of Conservative "fiscal responsibility."
Romney just wants to play war games and drill for oil. Ryan is Romney's puppet.
Flipper & Flapper are both clueless.
<><>< Obama/Biden 2012 ><><
News today...obama is "struggling" with the question of ARE U BETTER OFF NOW OR 4 YR. AGO!!
That is a yes or no question!! How do you struggle with a yes or no question??
Clint Eastwood summed it all up in 10 minutes!! No One can afford another 4 years of this Craziness!!
BozoHussan==NBC=GE= Chicago MOBpolitics=lie, cheat, steal ,twist every crises to benefit your Pravda Press PROPAGANDA!!
Quiet One, I disagree. Romney wants to add "President of the United States" to his resume...nothing more. To get that he's willing to make deals with the Neocons who want to make war. He's willing to make deals with the oil barons of Texas and hand over the keys to public lands nationwide. He's willing to make deals with the Kochs and help them defang everything from anti-pollution to labor regulations. He's willing to make deals with the "fiscal conservatives" and eliminate the ability of th federal government to invest in our future. He's willing to make deals with the social conservatives, the America Taliban.
Romney is a deal maker, soulless and conscienceless. He'll do anything to close the deal. The real problem is WHO he's making deals with.
Once I lived in a strange land, one where I witnessed many odd things and many of my beliefs about the world were brought into sharp focus. It didn't last long, because these strange creatures with whom I lived don't have much tolerance for outsiders and actively practice exclusion as a matter of their normal day to day existence. These creatures are the Vultures, and this is my story.
I was invited to join a tribe of longstanding and powerful tradition in the land between two rivers. A wise Chief had spent decades building his legacy, producing great wealth in the process. He had thousands of loyal followers, who in many cases had been with the Chief for decades and seen their fortunes grow with his. People who labored for him spoke proudly of how the Chief always took an interest in them, in their lives, and in the stability and growth of the tribe. He knew that his wealth, his legacy was not his alone but was instead a group effort under his guidance and leadership.
Now it was time for the Chief to move on, to take on the title of "Chairman Emeritas" which allowed him to participate in philanthropical pursuits and watch a great deal of college athletics here in the land between two rivers. He sold his organization to a new band of chiefs, people who lived in the air above a strange island on the Eastern shore. Wall Streeters, they wished to be called, but before long we all recognized them as Vultures.
The Vultures had many strange ways that seemed to have little to do with what the old Chief and his assistants referred to as "building value." We understood that the Vultures had saddled the tribe with a sizable debt to complete the purchase but their actions went further. For those of us responsible for a P&L our new yardstick was always to increase the measure known as EBITDA, yet instructions from the Wall Streeters conflicted with that. Owning property is advantageous to EBITDA, but the Vultures quickly sold all assets. Strange creatures these.
As it turned out there was a method to their plan. The profits from selling company property was sent as tribute to the skyscraper people. My P&L was immediately charged 5% of revenue as "overhead", money that went for no other purpose than to pay off the loan required of us by the Vultures and as "management fees."
Ah, the "management fees." Every 2-3 months chieftans from the Vulture clan would visit our village. They would "consult" for a few days, poring over the holy P&L. They worshipped direction, with upward to the right being the only acceptable outcome, ignoring seasonality, economic cycles, and industry comparisons. Always, always the graph must go upward to the right.
They were also numerologists, with 35% YOY increase being the sacred number. Consistently we delivered 28%, but it wasn't enough. What terrible times those were when the chieftans came to town. Orders came from the East to cut head count, sell what little assets we still owned, and take other drastic action in a futile attempt to reach the sacred number. I say futile because my tribute to the vultures would double, sometimes triple in months the chieftans came to town.
Eventually, consuming the seed one needs for the following year's planting takes a toll. The group known as my "division" found the "overhead" to be prohibitive as orders from Wall Street cut our capacity by almost 1/3. We were doomed.
My time came to leave the tribe. Those who continued sending word to me related a terrible famine, one that cut the population there by an additional 1/2. Other divisions also suffered, though the pain is masked by folding new acquisitions into the starving beast.
And of the Vultures? They're fine, thank you very much. They eat better than ever because they consume the bread of others. What a strange land they inhabit, though, one where wealth for themselves is created at the expense of prosperity for many. As it turns out there are many tribes of vultures. If it interests you the story of another is written here;

With any luck the day won't come where we are all led by such. That chapter is yet to be written. The future is ours, we need only decide wisely.
Boy oh boy! MSNBC First Read seems to be drooling all over my computer this morning. The much anticipated Democratic National Convention is now front and center. For the first couple of nights I will be glancing at it from time to time since I know the democrats will be lying their teeth out. I'm sure an occasional truth will come forth, but those will be seminal moments. For as much as the liberals continually beat the drum on the republican lies, there will be no drum beat for the next couple of nights. All we will hear is the soft refrains from some obscure violin off in the distance...
The big question is... will the democrats admit any lies given by their illustrious leaders speaking on the podium? How about half truths? How about obfuscation? How about deception? How about any word on this robust economy and the low unemployment rate? How about democrats just being democrats?
Will there be an empty chair moment by some crazy loon such as Whoopi Goldberg, or a secret appearance by George Clooney? They can always call Mr. Global Warming himself, Al Gore.
I actually believe they are going to try to whup it up on republicans... Maybe Obama will play on this:
“As long as I’m president, I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum,” Obama said. “But I intend to fight obstruction with action, and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place. No, we will not go back to an economy weakened by outsourcing, bad debt, and phony financial profits.”
It's about time he proved these words since he said them over a year ago. We are still waiting Mr. President.
Right, John. Losing your job had nothing whatsoever to do with poor performance reviews, did it?
Nah. After all, the owners of the company had an obligation to meet the needs of poorly performing employees, because, well- because! It's not like the poorly performing employee has any obligation to improve, or anything- after all, firms exist to give out jobs!
I have a feeling a bunch of so -called journalists are going to be joining you in the unemployment line- and it will be all the fault of the mean old media outlets who let them go, rather than the fact that they simply refuse to do their jobs.
Pity the poor political reporters- they aren't having any FUN
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0912/80604.html?hp=r1
Now, pardon me for speculating that it is because their team is losing- but I have a suggestion: go cover the real news.
Chuck Todd laments that they are not focusing on the economy- who the heck is stopping them? The steep decline in median income is easy enough to report- go find some folks who are suffering as a result. The fact that 58% of the jobs created by this administration are entry level, low wage jobs, rather than the middle income jobs necessary is also relatively easy to report- go find some of the folks working those, rather than higher wage jobs. The monkey business with the unemployment rate? Couple of stories there: where and what were those mystical 163,000 jobs created last month- particularly in light of the LAUS report, which showed unemployment up in 44 states. What about the 195,000 fewer employees last month- and, oh, yeah- what about the millions who hit the lottery and quit the labor force? Think you could find some of them to interview?
On the other hand, none of that would help Obama- so lets just wait for the next gaffe. Don't worry- it probably won't be Biden's. They don't allow you to report those anymore.
Maybe if some of you focused more on the inadequacies of your job performances, and addressed them, you'd have better luck.
Whining and complaining about not having any "fun" is not going to help. Neither is blaming the firm for judging your performance as inadequate.
Of course, the number one person who should be doing this is Obama- but, like most liberals, he will just blame the electorate for his own unemployment situation.
Here is another interesting take on Bain. Seems Democrats loved the company too.
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/look_who_parks_their_cash_at_bain_88KSQrw8BXciEidja2ZQXN
Right - because Eastwood was less looney?
And leave it to a repub to stick their fingers in their ears and scream la-la-la while the earth is actually experiencing temperature swings. Science is not alchemy and is based on facts. God isnt making warm outside you know.
I'm not in the unemployment line, I'm working in a management position as I have for the last 20+ years.
HUNDREDS of others lost their jobs. Were they all victims you can blame for their own misfortune?
My point is simple. Previous generations of American capitalists took it as an article of faith that they needed to build something of value in Hershey, PA or Dearborn, MI or Wichita, KS to build their own fortunes.
Today's Vulture Capitalists, and Mitt Romney was a pioneer in the field have perfected a method of building their personal wealth by destroying the livelihoods of others...AND WE SUBSIDIZE IT WITH TAX BREAKS!

Mike, Eastwood was hilarious. He was impromptu, unscripted, no teleprompter and spoke off the cuff. In otherwords, he was himself. No pretense, no script, just Clint being Clint. Liberals don't know how to take humor... especially when it's directed at their favorite icons.
What repub are you talking about Mike? You don't know me.
I take it you don't know what Al Gore was doing when it comes to global warming do you? You gotta get all scientific about it when I never question the science. I do question Al Gore's motives... Cap and Trade... money... that's all he was interested in... nothing more, but you liberals seem to think he was trying to alert the world... He was... alerting them to the amount of money he was going to make from it.
Roll out the VW bug and let the clowns come pouring out. Well, maybe Odumbo will want to change it to a Volt instead of a VW.
John,
Capitalists gave us what we wanted. ATM's, Self Check outs, cheaper goods made in foreign countries (like your Cell phone), and most importantly conformance to government regulations here in the states. The first three brought down prices and the majority of consumers liked it, otherwise after the first company did it and couldn't sell their stuff, no other company would have followed suit. The Fourth makes it harder for US companies to compete with China. The people spoke and we lost jobs.
Obama wants to take care of the middle class, not the 1%
And I'm convinced that's all it ever was, then and now.
Wow, No Joe---you claim to understand the economy yet you haven't learned the basic lesson that layoffs can happen in spite of stellar job performance by the employees.
Brianb-999431
Actually, we have read enough of your posts and know its best to ignore them. There isn't much factual information there and what is there, is fabricated through the GOP book of lies.
Too funny. Do you know who Bain investors are?
Even the California State Pension fund is heavily invested in Bain
Brian B
They ignore because they can't answer your posts.
Keep them coming.
Eric - you are telling lies yet again. Do me a huge favor... spell out Obama's plan for economic recovery... please be specific. While you are at it... step back 4 years and tell me what Obama meant by hope and change.
You know no such thing as to what the republicans will do with medicare. That has been blown so far out of proportion there's not a shred of truth to it. Obama is the only person to have stripped medicare of hundreds of billions of dollars.
Xabie lets talk about how you'd fix the economy again. Talk about excuses. Please tell me how ARRA worked so well.
John B, excellent post and rebuttal.
Once upon a time, employers valued their employees; recognized that without happy, well paid employees who could afford to buy the products they made, their businesses would fail. There still are businesses that value employees but they are an endangered species thanks to the new version of capitalism. Thanks to the Vulture guys, employees are now collateral damage having been replaced with the notion that greed, above all else, is the #1 component of running a business--never recognizing that sooner or later, no one will be able to afford the products they make except a very small percentage of the population. What conservatives fail to grasp is that when the middle class thrives, so does everyone else including the Vultures.
Itsabouttime - You know where you can go... be mindful... it's hot!
Did you bedwetting liberals even know about the enthusiasm gap since your sole news source has buried all info that would make you worry?
This is the biggest collection uninformed politicos in the country. Whenever you libs get a glimpse of what's actually going on in the political arena you all circle your wagons to comfort each other and try to reinforce your delusional obsession with your messiah.
Get with the program, 0bama's 15 minutes of fame are up and he will soon be nothing but a skid mark in our countrie's history remembered as that time the great and powerful US was almost brought down from within by socialism.
ANYBODY BUT 0BAMA-2012
Do me a favor, and spell out Romney's.
Brianb-999431
I'm already there.. it's called "TEXAS". Find a job yet? :-).
Xabre
Romney has no plan, other than the redistribution of wealth from the lower/middle class to the rich and corporations... Course, he wants us to believe otherwise
Actually, Steeler, I know quite a bit about how-and why- companies not constrained by union rules cut staff. When there is a RIF, it is the lowest performers who go first. In union shops, unfortunately, all RIFs are done by seniority- so, often, better performing employees are cut, while poorer ones remain.
Public school systems are glaring examples of that method.
As to the media- well, if they have forgotten how to cover a campaign by focusing on what is important to the electorate, they have no one but themselves to blame.
As to Obama, who is completely clueless on how to do his job effectively- he, and you, will blame anyone but himself- but the result will be the same- he's going to be out of a job shortly.
Thank heaven.
Brianb and no joe,no bo...........your posts are scaring the hell out of the liberals because they know you are right on and they have no way to respond so they simply call names and dispute your information. Keep holding their feet to the fire!!!
And the Democrats plan is different how? By increasing the tax on those earning 250K or more an additional 4%. So tell me how that will create jobs? There will still be a deficit driven by $3T over 10 years in tax cuts for the middle class. There is still a major war occurring, escalated by president Obama. There is still Medicare D that is now funded by fund diverted from Medicare Advantage.
So if the Republican plan has already been debunked, how does taxing an additional 70B a year make such a big difference? The Democratic plan is what you have now, but they're going to collect 70B more a year and spend it on something else.
I see Jody is pontificating again... about none other than capitalism.
Hey Jody, how many products do you have in your house from China? Take a look around and calculate the amount of money you spent on those products... Now that you have done that, I trust you did... figure out how many salaries of those chinese workers you paid. Consider that they work for approximately 1 dollar a day... the materials are inferior, the labor is cheap... and here you go spouting about how venture capitalists are bad. You purchase products from a country that beat their citizens and kill them when they don't produce... but you still buy their products... Does that make you feel all righteous? You have the power of your dollar to buy products from tortured citizens?
And here you go complaining about companies that step in to help other failing companies. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You only focus in on when it doesn't... I have an idea.. run down to your local Wal-Mart and buy some more products from China... it will make you feel better.
Ahh, the teleprompter again. Apparently the GOPers do not realize that every republican who spoke other than Clint Eastwood used a teleprompter. They also fail to remember President Obama dismantled the entire GOP Caucus at their own retreat without so much as a piece of paper in front of him. The effort was so grand, all the cable networks covered the Q & A as they were equally in awe. The GOPers looked like stumbling, stuttering imbeciles when President Obama finished with them. No doubt, CSPAN has it in their archives. But hey, keep beating the teleprompter nonsense and prove that conservatives really have nothing else to offer except the trivial.
Obama will cause the U.S. to default on its payments, with a national debt reaching 20 Trillion OR MORE by 2016.
Obama will cause unemployment to reach unheard of levels by 2016. (Just look what a great job he's done so far keeping unempoyment at or above 8%!)
And when the government runs out of money then there will be no more healthcare for seniors, and no more well-fare for the unemployed! (Or they'll desperately try to print more and more money and cause hyper inflation!)
They will be the ones who suffer the most!
Have you looked at Greece lately?
And by the way, why isn't MSNBC reporting about a top Democrat in California who compared Paul Ryan to a Nazi?
IS OBAMA GOING TO DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM THESE OUTRAGEOUS REMARKS?
You know the Democrats have lost the argument when they're starting to make Nazi comparisons...
Of the three morning shows, only ABC's Good Morning America on Monday highlighted two drunken delegates at the Democratic National Convention, one of whom was forced to leave North Carolina. Fill-in host Lara Spencer touted the story, asserting that "things are already off to a shaky start."
Reporter Cecilia Vega explained, "Two California Democratic delegates partied into the wee hours of Sunday morning. In the lobby of their Charlotte hotel, one was so drunk he apparently passed out and was taken to the hospital." She added that the unidentified delegate was "belligerent" and threatened with arrest for impersonating a congressman. ABC reported the story in the 7am and 8am hour. CBS This Morning and NBC's Today, however, skipped it.
LMAO! A buncha drunken dems!
John B,
Brilliant take on RomneyRyan and vulture capitalism. You sure got us to put on our thinking caps today.
If the greedy trickle-downs install themselves again, there'll be no green bottles left hangin' on the wall.
xabie its called Mittromney dot com. I already know Obama's plan. it sucks and has for 4 years. the guy didnt care about the economy when he campaigned on it 4 years ago. Remember Laser like focus. Nope you guys deflect like you just did. Joking about shovel ready not being so shovel ready. If he didnt turn the economy around in 3 years, he'd be a first term president. Well he might just live up to that promise, in fact I hope he does.
Xabre said: Do me a favor, and spell out Romney's.
I asked first. I will after you spell out Obama's.
It's about time said: I'm already there.. it's called "TEXAS".
Then you misunderstood my directions... you have to leave where you are to travel as I directed... which I assure you, is much hotter...
Why do you care if I found a job?
Oh and then by all means you can inform BrianB. Spare no detail.
Brianb-999431
As usual, your posts are always good for a few laughs. Maybe if you found a job you might actually do something productive and constructive with your life. Whining and complaining is no way to go through life son.
BrianB,
You can find Obama's economic plan at: http://change.gov/agenda/economy_agenda/
You claim about Medicare and Obama taking 716 billion out, is a lie: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/aug/29/paul-ryan/paul-ryan-said-president-obama-funneled-716-billio/
Romney doesn't have a plan...........except worn out "trickle down" economics.
What did Obama mean by "Hope and Change"....he tried reaching across the aisle. Little did he know that Republicans had already agreed prior to his inauguration that they were going to fully obstruct everything he did.
We are better off than we were 4 years ago. Google GDP chart, jobless claims graph, and the DOW average. Tell me we aren't better off.
Brian b, how many do you have? Yes, I prefer pontificating about capitalism; I also prefer that jobs be created here rather than looking for cheap labor so that something can be sold for a huge profit on the backs of slave-labor wages. The right vilifies communists and China is a communist nation yet conservatives cheer USA businesses building plants and growing China's economy--doesn't seem too smart to me, seems more like aiding and abetting the enemy. Apple makes a great product but Steve Job's legacy would be greater if he built those plants in the USA; there are many regions in this country where he could have done this and still made a big profit. That said, when I find something not made overseas, then that is my preference and what I will buy. FYI, I bought new living-room furniture a year ago; and guess what, every piece was Made in the USA. In fact, all the furniture in my home is Made in the USA because I searched for it.
@ItsAboutTime: BrianB enjoys spending his time wishing death to posters on the internet.
We know 0bama's plan, we are living that nightmare right now.
That assclown has the gall to tell america that capitalism didn't work in the past?
How the hell did we become the most powerful nation in the world in record time if it didn't work.
I think what that traitor to our country means is that capitalism didn't work to create a nation of mediocracy and dependency.
Brianb,
"Take a look around and calculate the amount of money you spent on those products... Now that you have done that, I trust you did... figure out how many salaries of those chinese workers you paid. Consider that they work for approximately 1 dollar a day... the materials are inferior, the labor is cheap... and here you go spouting about how venture capitalists are bad."
Most of the products we buy from China are made by U.S. corporations that have moved their factories to China because that is the nature of capitalism. They will move to whereever the labor is cheapest. So why is your post bragging about the greatness of capitalism? It certainly is great for China, but just until the standard of living and the cost of living cause the Chinese workers to start demanding higher wages, then the capitalists will move their factories elsewhere.
John B - Good to hear you appear to be better off then you were four years ago. I know I am.
Four years ago, Lehman brothers was collapsing, credit was non existant and even Bush knew that the economy was falling off a cliff. Construction work and architectural design work was drying up. In my field as an architect, my old firm saw an overnight (literally overnight) tightening of the belt when Washington Mutual went Bankrupt in Sept. of 08. Four design projects halted, two in the field under construction taken over by new owner JP Morgan and or Wachovia architects, hundreds of thousands in design fees gone in less than 24 hours. The first leg of my responsibilites was cut from under me.
On another front was working with a major DFW retailer in a flagship retrofit of a premier locale under a major upgrade. The plan was to have reconstruction done by mid November to open fully for XMAS shopping. As the architect production manager I was responsible for executing the drawings correctly, getting them permitted through the city and supervising construction. One of the many upgrades included a new suspended ceiling system (actually in the grand scheme was a small part of the upgrades). I pointed out that due to the extent of the retrofit, the city would require new seismic struts to be installed throughout the ceiling. Cost was not so much the issue being in the low six figures, but an expedited permit could no longer be submitted. A regular permit submittal would be needed and that would push permit acceptance and therefore construction past the retailers open date. Despite calls from the owner and in retrospect from my boss, I was obligated as a licensed architect whose foremost duty is to the life safety and welfare of those that inhabit my buildings to inform the city of the seismic strut/long permit review submittal. Just Cause People, including the vice president of construction for the retailer in question was trying to throw their weight and influence at me, I refused to submit for an expedited permit. The retailer lost their XMAS opening date and I lost my last leg to stand on.
Worked the election that Tuesday, had asked and received permission to do so, by Friday I was told my position was no longer in place.
Despite the fiscal year ending bonus where I received an equivalent to 12% of my annual salary in Sept. obviously two months later to adherents of the GOP talking points I was a poor performer. Don't take into consideration the fact that 40% of archtitects lost their jobs according to the AIA statistics.
New York Times - Jan. 20, 2010
A troubled economy and the implosion of the real estate market have thrown thousands of architects and designers out of work in the last year or so, forcing them to find or create jobs. According to the latest data available from the Department of Labor, employment at American architecture firms, which peaked last July at 224,500, had dropped to 184,600 by November. *Only denotes jobs lost during those months of 2009.
Of course in the GOP narrative, I and all the rest lost their jobs because of poor performance.
Now am working for the state as an owner's agent (architect construction manager for their projects). Now I am the owner agent, I have deadlines to consider however would never ask anyone working for me to not design to code.
It's MY tax dollars supporting your kids, thanks to your lazy, useless ass!
If you HATE gubment so much, quit cashing your unemployment checks!
You might spend a little more time on CareerBuilder and a little less time spreading your garbage on FR!
"OBAMA Rules and the GOP are FOOLS" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The dems have decided to ratchet up the enthusiasm factor by presenting a filled to capacity arena with lots of noisy cheering people. They're accomplishing this by handing out tickets to anyone that will take them and by busing people in. They need to do these things to avoid having all those empty seats on national display.
because we as Americans demand cheap products. but tell me how has communism worked in the past? you know wealth redistribution, each according to his need, according to his ability?
Wealth distribution is actually one of the basic functions of any government. Governments that ignore this role tend not to last very long. This is why Thomas Jefferson (yes, the Founding Father) supported a hefty inheritance tax as a means to 'reset wealth' from one generation to the next. Think Sam Walton's progeny would approve?
Indeed.com in my opinion; but that's only if they actually want employment.
It is absolutely beyond believe how could anyone even consider voting for anything that Republicans have to offer, which is really nothing new then what previous Republican's Administrations offered. Big spending, borrowing, cutting taxes, more borrowing, more spending and borrowing. Starting with Reagan and first Bush, then the second idiot Bush. What are you stupid?
Having balanced budget, at the end of Clinton's presidency, projected surplus, all of that squandered on wars, tax cuts, idiotic decisions. Did any of you republican idiots forgot that the bottom fell off in 2008 where Dow Jones was hovering around 6000 points? This means conservatism to you? Spend and borrow and spend and borrow. This is suicidal and unpatriotic. Any of you so called conservatives driving GM or Chrysler lately? Where do you think would those companies be if not for Obama? If it was up to Romney, they would be bankrupted and sold off. Looking back at last 30 years, the only thing that Republicans are good for is spending and borrowing. Oh and one more thing, making sure that at all cost President Obama is not reelected to the second term.
DEMOCRAT Governor of Maryland, Martin O-Malley. When asked are we better of today then 4 years ago he responded truthfully, NO! Hmmm, an honest Democrat just in time for the convention! beardog - You want to talk about stupidity, how about a President how has not had a budget period. IDIOT!
John B. great post. Man when I see people like elliot, and his Rep teabag friends, I have to wounder if they ever worked a honest days work in there life. Do they know what it is like to put your life on the line every day in a factory. Earn a living for actually doing something. Build something with your bare hands and hand tools. Take a peace of land and turn that into someone's Home from nothing. I had owned my own business from 1985 to 2007. Did I make some mistakes, you bet i did. But someone once said, that the only ones that make no mistakes are the ones not doing anything. I had recently taken a management job for a property Management Company much like John B. talked about. Property management my Eye. They Managed to take all they could, Let the Property go into disrepair. And would lay every one off except Management 3 days before X mas, Because there were worried about getting there bonus. They Hire emigrants, because they know they can get away with anything they want from them. I witnessed the GM forcing a young girl to have sex with him. I heard her Screaming from a room for help, when I busted trough the door, there he was in her and her begging for him to stop. He Stopped alright, Of course I lost my Job. But it was worth it when I bet the Hell out of him. He was this hot collage grad. that only knew how to cook the books to make the numbers look good. The upper managers loved him so much that they tried to cover up his rape. And what I couldn't understand is that this wasn't the first time. They had bought him out of a mess like this before. The local police tried to turn this onto me, Saying I broke into the room while these two were having consensual. Turned out the girl wasn't even 16 yet. Her mother worked there and she was there helping her mom. But you get the drift. These Managers think are owed these kinds of things because they have given you a job or given your parents a job. They have no morals, and no Sole as far as I can see. Take and destroy is there motto. Dam the workers. Are there workers that take advantage, Yes but it is Managements job to get read of those workers. Why should one worker have to carry a dead beat. Management and workers need to be working together to better a company. And when they build up a good company with good management and hard working people, People like Bain capital shouldn't be able to come in and buy it and destroy what those people built, Just so they can make a fast profit. Bain and others like them have destroyed this country. We used to make things here. Funny how the Rep's never talk about when we actually things here in this country. It makes me so mad to think that the Snowmobile was invented here, But Japan makes them all. Most of the Hi tec things we have today was invented here, but shipped to India and China. O its because they have slave labor there. But that has bitten them in the ass, because all that stuff is sold here to Americans. Americans that don't have jobs now and can't buy that stuff. Now China and India is in a free fall.
I keep hearing are you better off then you were 4 years ago. Well that is a leading question. But Hell yes we are and we are getting better every day. No thanks to the Rep's that want us to keep doing better. All the Rep's care about is getting more money for the rich and to hell with the rest of us. They said openly that they wanted President Obama to fail and they would do anything in there power to see that he did fail. What Good Americans they think they are. Good for nothing Americans I say. Traders and sell outs. That is what a Rep and tea parties are in my eyes.
Jody....
You are wrong in the aspect of saying any company that outsources to another country is labeled as a republican. It isn't a political issue, it's a business issue. Think how big Apple and Microsoft are, doesn't get much bigger than that and look how much they outsource! Look at GE the last few years, how many jobs were outsourced there? Even the Obama stimulas package outsourced on a large scale. I can understand people getting upset with the stimulas money because that was tax payer money that was wasted.
Jody, you sound as if you know Obama isn't doing that great of a job, but because you are a democrat you have to support him regardless.
Romney's Grandfather was a Mexican from the Drug Cartel and his Wealth was Passed down to the Father, then the Son - Mitt Romney, now running for the President of the United States of America. Blood & Drug Money buying a American Election, what has this Country come to, this is beyond Insane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I see a picture of michelle, it reminds me of a quote from 'The Color Purple' film. 'Yo' sure is ugly'.
no that is not the basic function of any gov. Nice try Xabie. Levying taxes is to keep gov running. Its to PROMOTE the General Welfare, not Provide it. That is why our country was founded upon rewarding success, not demonizing it.
Think Sears Roebuck would be so successful with wealth redistrubtion. We know even GM isnt doing that well, at least the tax payers arent. Hows that Volt again?
OK, I followed Eric's link to see what Obama's agenda is to improve our economy... This is laughable!!
http://change.gov/agenda/economy_agenda/
Eric, this was Obama's plan in 2009. I'll bet you thought I'd fall for your lead. We already know this is laughable. It didn't work.
Let me be even more specific... What is Obama's 2012 plan since the 2009 plan did NOT achieve one objective.
Two big tax cuts for the rich and a net of 1 million jobs created in 8 years under the Bush Administration's failed trickle down economic policy. Yet, Romney's solution is more tax cuts for the rich.
The middle class remains deeply in debt due to 3 decades of vastly increased wealth of the rich and their smart strategy of just loaning it to us rather than giving us greater pay raises. They get tax cuts from our government and then our government borrows it back from them.
Trickle down economics was called Voodoo Economics by George Bush I and we know now that he was right. Almost all economists said it was an unrealistic theory when Reagan first proposed it. Yet, despite Reagan's increasing the federal budget deficit by 250% from 1981 to 1983 with stimulative tax cuts and increased government spending and the Fed's cutting of the discount rate from 14% in May 1981 to 8.5% in Dec 1982 to stimulate job growth, Republicans hail the 7 million jobs created in the aftermath of the 82-83 recession as a result of trickle down economics.
The facts tell a different story. Stimulus works. Trickle down economics never did.
Wet Willy, they aren't empty seats, they're Eastwooding.
This "news" network is getting crazy.
Dose anyone think that Chuck Todd will be calling the San Antonio Mayor a token like he called all the minorities in the republican party?
Last week was a 24/7 race cardathon. We found out so much about what republicans cant say.
Golf
Chicago
Welfare
Angry
Foodstamp
Debt
Foreign policy
Europe
Constitution
America
These are just some of the things that had MSNBC playing the race card last week.
Uh, chuck, I believe that this is your white cane I found here!
That's weak "Patriotic"! Is that all you have?
Loser...
And by the way, why isn't MSNBC reporting about a top Democrat in California who compared Paul Ryan to a Nazi?
IS OBAMA GOING TO DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM THESE OUTRAGEOUS REMARKS?
Hmmm...?
You know the Democrats have lost the argument when they're starting to make Nazi comparisons...
;)
Things are fine. Just fine. No sweat. None. Zero. No problem. Got this one. Really. For sure. I just know it. We have to believe it. It's going to be okay. We can fire them up. We can. Yes, yes we for sure can. Dude, epiphany! Let's give them free White House special brew. Free beer! That should do it. Yeah! Beer! How cool is that. Cool. We gotta be cool. Well there ya go...that's our ticket.
Now tell me, how much of it wasn't obstructed by the House?
Xabre - Obama's biggest problem is that he is NOT a leader. Reagan delt with a democratic house and senate as did Clinton with the Republicans. It was brutal and hard fought. But they did it. What does Obama do, cry like a little bitch. And it will cost him his Presidency!
Jody said: Brian b, how many do you have? Jody, I do my best to not buy foreign products. I will not buy a foreign vehicle. All my furniture was made in the US.
Yes, I prefer pontificating about capitalism; Why, don't you benefit from it?
I also prefer that jobs be created here rather than looking for cheap labor so that something can be sold for a huge profit on the backs of slave-labor wages. Well, you pontificate about it, but you don't ever come up with solutions to the high labor/cheap labor situation. It's much easier to complain about it than it is to offer solutions, eh?
The right vilifies communists and China is a communist nation yet conservatives cheer USA businesses building plants and growing China's economy--doesn't seem too smart to me, seems more like aiding and abetting the enemy. This is very narrow sighted. You act like republicans alone benefit from the cost of cheap labor. It smacks of double standard hypocracy to me.
Apple makes a great product but Steve Job's legacy would be greater if he built those plants in the USA; there are many regions in this country where he could have done this and still made a big profit. Really? Where? You say this without a shred of backup on your assertions.
That said, when I find something not made overseas, then that is my preference and what I will buy. FYI, I bought new living-room furniture a year ago; and guess what, every piece was Made in the USA. In fact, all the furniture in my home is Made in the USA because I searched for it. Well, good. But that doesn't stop you from claiming capitalism is bad, when it was capitalism that built your furniture. How do you know it wasn't made overseas, or components of it weren't made overseas? Lots of components go into furniture... such as springs, cloth, padding, etc... are you 100% certain?
That's where you're wrong. He compromised to get his stimulus through Congress. However since the emergence of the Tea Party, it has been impossible to compromise. When your counterparts are against anything and everything you want to accomplish, do you seriously think compromise is even possible? It takes two to compromise.
Too funny. Rightwingnuts sure have their panties in a bunch.
Xabre said: Now tell me, how much of it wasn't obstructed by the House?
Xabre - are you ADD? The year I am talking about is 2012. You are all over the place. I will try this one more time with you... and if you can't answer it... just admit that you can't. It is very simple.
What is Obama's 2012 plan to improve the economy?
Gabriel - your jealousy is showing - big time!
Obama/Biden 2012
In some ways Paul RyRand does look like Adolf Hitler, the son of a Nazi !!!!!!!!!!
Ryan's love of his life "Ayn Rand !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Communist for TeaTard VP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Xabre
All of it. How is that this President, you know super smart, can't play with both sides? Why has every president (D, R and W) in the past except Johnson able to work with both sides of congress? Short answer is that he sucks. your answer its all bush and the repubs fault.
Here is the tax calculator. Plug in your annual income and see what happens to you under Obama's tax plan or Romney's tax plan.
http://www.barackobama.com/record/economy?source=primary-nav-om
Here is a comparison of the tax plans: http://www.cnbc.com/id/48739927/Stark_Differences_in_Ryan_Romney_Obama_Tax_Plans
That's totally why he didn't compromise to get his stimulus passed right?
Short answer: Tea Party.
Xabre - I'm so glad you're a Democrat! You by far are the dumbest person i have responded to. Obama compromised to get his stimulus through? Umm, you mean with Democrats, wow what a compromiser.
jimsepia said: Too funny. Rightwingnuts sure have their panties in a bunch.
Not half as funny as the liberals that have their brains in a bunch!
Unhappy - Gov. Romney has stated that if he is elected he will get rid of all federal subsidies for green energy because "they have unbalanced the market." However, he will keep the over $20,000,000,000 in subsidies for big oil in place.
Remind me again, who are some of his major donors (think Texas now) and which industry do they represent?
Oh, and exactlyy who is that owns/funds examiner.com (think Phil Anschutz - a man that supports "intelligent design" and denies evolution and believes that gays are not entitled to be free from discrimination) and what are those biases again?
geo, get your history correct before you bash someone. Yes, President Obama compromised with the Republicans. The stimulus was split three ways - one for true stimulus spending, one for tax breaks demanded by Republicans and one for unemployment benefits demanded by Democrats.
Ronald Reagan once said that to a Republican, everyday is July 4th and to the democrat, it’s April 15th. That is so disgustingly true and very sad. My grandfather and father both had their own businesses prior to retiring and now my brother runs his own. As a sole proprietor, the income from his business is filed through his personal income and yes, he exceeds the $200K mark most years, although not by much. Does that make him rich? Not hardly. Do you deserve a cut – not even close. He pays his taxes and gives to the community in which he does business. He hires employees and pays them a fair wage. He takes the risks so he gets to enjoy the benefits. If my brother’s business fails, he alone takes the hit. Obama is unlikely to be standing there with a bail out to keep him going and neither are you.
Here’s a tip for you – don’t like the wages you’re being paid? Don’t work there. If enough people refuse to work for them – they will change their way of doing business or who knows, maybe they will hire illegal immigrants. Don’t like how an employer treats their employees? Don’t shop there – it will change. But thinking these people are going to give away their money through Obama’s “share the wealth” plan to people who don’t deserve it is a poorly thought out pipe dream. They have several options. Put up with it, close their doors, down size to get out of the line of fire, or move their business outside the country on every level possible. Most will do one of the latter options, not the first.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Looking at your post history, that's definitely a compliment.
small and irrelevant yet out maneuvered Obama the Oz? You lose with that statement. reason enough not to vote for Obama.
I always thought Patriotic American was a little off base, but this really proves it... Comments from a nutcase: Romney's Grandfather was a Mexican from the Drug Cartel and his Wealth was Passed down to the Father, then the Son - Mitt Romney, now running for the President of the United States of America. Blood & Drug Money buying a American Election, what has this Country come to, this is beyond Insane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The democrats/liberals are really getting desperate... this proves it. We all knew Romney's roots were in Mexico... now some left wing loony liberal comes up with this... No proof, no backup, nothing but a statement of imagination. The only correct statement starts after the last comma... this is beyond insane... desperation is starting to creep up their spinal chords.
no jo:
At my non-union job, when a project finishes, they simply layoff those employees. It doesn't matter how you perform or how much you make - the members of the project are gone.
And it doesn't always have to be project completion. Sometimes its because your job is now done in India or China. Almost 40% of our workforce is now over seas somewhere.
Assclown elliot:
Everyone (except for you) knows this is not a strict capitalist nation. It is mostly capitalism with a smattering of socialism to protect citizenry from the vultures. And you want one of those vultures as our next president. You want to create an aristocracy where most money levitates to the top and the rest of us are peasants begging for crumbs from their tables. A vote for Romney is a vote against equal opportunity.

geo, get your history correct before you bash someone. Yes, President Obama compromised with the Republicans. The stimulus was split three ways - one for true stimulus spending, one for tax breaks demanded by Republicans and one for unemployment benefits demanded by Democrats.
Ummm that is not correct either. When Obamacare was being debated, the republicans weren't even allowed in the room. The republicans didn't even have enough members to create a filibuster. It was all democrats. The republicans were not regarded one bit in forming the act. When it went for a vote, all republicans voted against it in unison. Obama was quoted as saying "The republicans can sit in the back of the bus, they had their time." How does that remotely resemble compromise?
I have to say this. THERE ARE SOME REALLY INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE ON THESE BOARDS Don't ever collapse the first post in a thread! Do you realize how inconsiderate it is for people to do that? The 5 idiots that collapsed Backhouse's first post... grow the F up or stop coming here!
That's funny coming from you. Threaten bodily harm to anyone else lately?
Backhouse- When discussing the middle class you also have to discuss the economic implications of policy on the working classes. I'll give you two recent news items that I find particularly disconcerting that will have direct impacts on the middle class. These are:
1. President Obama released an executive order forcing cogeneration in our energy system. Cogen is a useful means to harvest more power from the energy production system- like using heat recovery to create more energy or use that heat for other uses, etc. The point is that the President is demanding that within 8 years energy suppliers must implement these measures to their power plants as part of his "green energy" plans. The President touted that it would save Americans $10 billion per year. Sounds good, eh? It's not that simple. Firstly, the President doesn't have the constitutional power to decree what power companies must do (using federal agencies to enforce his wishes), but he just did. Secondly, he didn't tout that this equates to over an $80 billion makeover to the power plants- many of whom are currently agonizing over the recent upgrade demands placed upon them by the federal government (scrubbers, etc.) and having to install them on an extremely tight schedule. So you see realistically these companies are going to have to race through the planning, design, bidding, contracting, and permitting processes- many of which (especially the permitting one) are overseen by the federal government and are notorious for being very slow and laden with reviews. This will cost them massive money to start up and are backed up with fines if they don't get them done on time. Considering the complexity of cogen and it's design it's a daunting task of design alone on that schedule. Then you've got fabrication and installation, permits, etc. etc. which also disrupt your ability to produce power.
Remember that many of these power plants are struggling with today's new requirements, let alone new ones. Many have buckled under the earlier regulation's costs so you have to believe that many more will financially collapse with the second wave of regulations. Let's just go with they can figure out a way to pay for the upgrades- whom do you think will bear the burdon of the costs....... the consumers (the middle class). If they are expending billions in required upgrades (the latest pegged at over $80 billion), then they are going to pass on those costs to consumers in higher energy costs. So the middle class is going to take it on the chin for energy policy.
Do I want dirty air, water, and pollution- no but you have to understand that there have to be priorities and schedules to do so. The federal government just forced them to implement an air pollution program, so let that one complete before you stack other regulations on top or extend the others into a schedule that is realistic to implement. I tend to think that this is political regulation at it's worst- taking a good upgrade and creating unrealistic, punitive regulations to get what you want to show others (for votes). If the President and his administration discussed the realities of such measures they would have at least thought about what it takes to get things done and made them possible.
2. Ben Bernake late last week noted that there can/will be a QE4 someday. That will directly impact the middle class as your dollar's value will become futher diluted and will create huge inflation when you go to the store. They are considering doing so because it will make the US payback of loans cost "less" as the dollar is worth less in the global market. Problem is that our crediters will eventually (and many are starting to do so now) cut their losses and stop buying our debt, some are already trying to get rid of the dollar as the currency of international trade altogether. When that happens we are pinched with little leverage regarding our money's value. So the middle class will get further crushed by getting less for your take home paychecks. Oh, don't forget that your taxes will have to go up too- how else are the politicians going to pay for their spending when the money's not worth as much...... increase the rate of return for investing in us. Dig the hole deeper!
So I get your anti-top down perspective, but I'd challenge you and our leaders to think carefully about the middle class, it's demise, and how to make changes that encourage growth without pinching us further.
acting tough over the internet is just retarded but xabie even if brianB did that, he is wrong . However you care to address your own pig pen and the lefty posters that threaten physically as well? where is that clwyd guy? I am pretty sure that pvss cake threated me physically but well im not worried. its weak. anyone that does it over the internet is weak.

Hey liberal children... you forgot a few of my posts... I mean you haven't collapsed them all yet. I'll give you a few minutes... since it takes 5 of you to do it.
You have no idea how proud it makes me to have you collapse them. Really! Every collapse is a badge of honor because it proves how incredibly thin skinned you are.... and how much you want to shut down the voice of opposition... It also shows that you can't take it... and are afraid to argue points... bunch of liberal wusses!
seeking sanity....Jealous of what? ugliness? keep on seeking for sanity, you're far from it.
Xabre said: That's funny coming from you. Threaten bodily harm to anyone else lately?
I never threatened anyone. I used irony... but since we know you have no idea what that is... it takes a liberal with ADD to confuse the two...
Hey Xabre - I am still waiting the answer to my question... what is Obama's 2012 plan to fix the economy. You must be hard researching his non-existent plan.
My question in return to the attempted rebuttals above is, why does it matter who invested in Bain? Many public entities once invested in South Africa as well...did that make apartheid right? Of course not.
Exposure of financial supporters of South Africa was a key step in getting the needed change in that formerly evil country. I guess I should thank you, then, for posting a list of investors in Bain Capital. After all, it's destructive to our society to let the banksters continue bleeding the vitality out of our economy for their own personal enrichment. Perhaps you're helping us realize who it is that facilitates this sort of rampant greed;
The unlikeliness of Romney's gambit isn't simply a reflection of his own artlessly unapologetic mindset – it stands as an emblem for the resiliency of the entire sociopathic Wall Street set he represents. Four years ago, the Mitt Romneys of the world nearly destroyed the global economy with their greed, shortsightedness and – most notably – wildly irresponsible use of debt in pursuit of personal profit. The sight was so disgusting that people everywhere were ready to drop an H-bomb on Lower Manhattan and bayonet the survivors. But today that same insane greed ethos, that same belief in the lunatic pursuit of instant borrowed millions – it's dusted itself off, it's had a shave and a shoeshine, and it's back out there running for president.
Mitt Romney, it turns out, is the perfect frontman for Wall Street's greed revolution. He's not a two-bit, shifty-eyed huckster like Lloyd Blankfein. He's not a sighing, eye-rolling, arrogant jerkwad like Jamie Dimon. But Mitt believes the same things those guys believe: He's been right with them on the front lines of the financialization revolution, a decades-long campaign in which the old, simple, let's-make-stuff-and-sell-it manufacturing economy was replaced with a new, highly complex, let's-take-stuff-and-trash-it financial economy. Instead of cars and airplanes, we built swaps, CDOs and other toxic financial products. Instead of building new companies from the ground up, we took out massive bank loans and used them to acquire existing firms, liquidating every asset in sight and leaving the target companies holding the note. The new borrow-and-conquer economy was morally sanctified by an almost religious faith in the grossly euphemistic concept of "creative destruction," and amounted to a total abdication of collective responsibility by America's rich, whose new thing was making assloads of money in ever-shorter campaigns of economic conquest, sending the proceeds offshore, and shrugging as the great towns and factories their parents and grandparents built were shuttered and boarded up, crushed by a true prairie fire of debt.

rollingstone John? ok lets compare bain to the apartheid. What do we compare Goldman Sachs and GE (you know fair taxes and all) to? I get it John, in order to support you lies er agenda you have to cherry pick whats evil about bain.
Next up on Johns agenda is how the GOP is tied to Nazi germany through Bayer.
Too funny ... most of the best posts have been collapsed ! It must be that good old "liberal tolerance for the viewpoint of others" !!!! Who the hell am I kidding ? This is a libbie website and "thought control" is practiced here ..... either agree with "THEIR" political views ..... or be collapsed. Some that are collapsed are pretty benign too !
1) If you read what I wrote you'll see that I blame ALL of Wall Street for their efforts to destroy Main Street. I didn't say I worked for Bain, I said the Vultures I worked for operated on the same MO as Bain. The same is true for most of the banksters in this era.
2) You dismiss my source without debating the merits of the argument or the facts at hand. I accept your logically fallacious argument as admission that you can't refute it. Can't say you didn't try.
Technically, Democrats aren't claiming that raising taxes on the rich will create jobs; they are merely stating that it will restore a sense of fairness to the tax code. That will raise revenues by about $1.4 trillion (assuming that they add in the extra 4%). I personally say let all of the Bush tax cuts expire and raise the top three rates by 3 points, the last ones by 2 points, while also raising AMT rates by 3 points. That will raise about $5.6 trillion over 10 years. Add in removing some tax expenditures, reducing defense spending by $800 billion, reforming entitlements, and following some of Simpson-Bowles' spending cuts on discretionary spending, and you have the budget balanced over the long term.
Taxes don't technically boost the economy; but the spending plans will. Boosting spending in the short-term will increase output and return us to full employment, which will allow us to deal with the deficit without hurting the economic recovery.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Good morning America, let’s have some fun!
Where to start? Saul Alinsky? Nah, dancing the conga with a corpse that musty just ain’t cool. We need a live bogeyman and what the heck, let’s toss in a live bogeywoman. Name of the game is Guilt by Association. We all know how to play, you just pick out someone who gives you the political heebie-jeebies like … um … Bill Ayers, 60’s commie, radical, terrorist and too keep the sexes equal, 60’s terrorist, radical, commie Bernardine Dohrn. Excellent, we now have our delightfully distasteful degenerates with whom we can tarnish the reputation of all who meet them. Or, maybe we’ll just pick out one guy … hmm, that uppity guy from Chicago, the Capital of Kenya, fits the bill.
WOAH! Andrew Breitbart and Tucker Carlson, a few short months before Breitbart’s delightfully distasteful demise, joined Ayers and Dohrn at their home for dinner. WOAH! Breitbart and Ayers mused about taking a road trip together across this fair land … double WOAH. Hot Damn, Andrew and Tucker are Commies. So cool how that works.
The article that I link to below is a blast to read, and the ‘Family’ photo of these four horsemen of the apocalypse is just priceless.
God bless every last happy misfit in the land!

Obama wants to take care of the middle class, not the 1%
News98
That is not how socialism works. That is however what the 1% have been up to for a long time. Remarkable, they take it from you and you bend over and say it's theirs.
I love to see all the Dem's get all over Mitt for his Bain Capital connection when in fact George Soros and Warren Buffet were running the out of country scam back in the seventies and eighties, remember Made in Japan, guess who was collecting those billions?? Good ol' George and Warren, oh yes! The original outsource guys' And we don't hear about them other then there advising Nobama, i wonder why???
R/R Motors 2012 Moving us down the road to prosperity!!
Romney/Ryan 2012 taking us back to the 50's one voucher at a time.
Ryan Vouchercare to Cleanse our Seniors, GOP Death Camp !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey comrade, keep the fear mongering up. You sound like Bush, but so does Obama. No diff there really.
That is how socialism works BCWC, socialism is merely a stepping stone towards Communism but you knew that right?
I wish to God that could happen, Eric. The 50s were an absolutely great time to be alive in this country. But the decade was ushered in by a Democrat who was a true leader, not a clueless community organizer.
spider-737231
Yup the good old 50's, man it was good to be black in those rosy days.
sweaver,
When did George Soros and Warren Buffett enter the race for president? You all disallow the name Bush to be used in any conversation regarding, well anything, but repeatedly bring up names of people who are not involved in the campaign. Weird.
No civil rights, fewer women's rights, racism, segregation.....yeah.....great......(rolls eyes).
Back in the 1950's . . . I invite you to look at the redlining practices in those days.
It wasn't only if you were "black, brown, or yellow" that caused you to be discriminated against (although in fairness any color other than legally defined "white" was the major issue - remember we had racial purity acts in place in many states then). If you were Jewish or Italian you were also "legally" subjected to increased bank fees and reduced access to credit also because you were classified as "undesireable."
Eric,
The same Obama "plan" we have now? No thanks. Romney - or anyone - in 2012!!!!!!!!!!
Facts are an awkward albatross around the Republican's neck. Confuse and distract are their tactics. They have no concrete solutions for our nation's slow job growth. Republicans blocked further stimulus when it was sorely needed in 2010.. Their mission, make Obama fail, has helped keep Americans out of work even though stimulus spending has been used to speed recovery in every recession since Hoover did his balanced budget approach in the aftermath of the 1929 stock market crash. Hoover's balanced budget approach of reduced government spending in the face of falling tax revenues is what made the Great Depression so severe with unemployment peaking at 25% before FDR began using stimulus spending to drive unemployment down to 10%.
Yet, Romney pays lip service to this failed strategy of a balanced budget approach to solving our nation's slow recovery from the worst financial crisis since 1929. I call this STUPID.
so libbies can only focus on black people being 'put back in chains'. Sure the 50's and early 60's weren't good for blacks, but not a time in American history prior to the civil rights movement was. But America was prosperous in 50's but lets not divert the attention to prosperity for americans, lets talk about faux racism. You know the all important non existent issue.
When you're losing you throw in the race card --- thankfully it's been over used, worn out, and not effective. But.....that's all they got.
Time to "dial up" the enthusiasm, cause it just ain't gonna be there any other way. The far left is jazzed because they have a president who is into all their causes and they see this as their one chance to get everything they ever dreamed of for Christmas. "Normal Americans" just want jobs and a better economy, and Obama just isn't interested in such mundane things when there are all these social issue fish to fry. So count on the feminists, gays, and unions to be fired up completely, but that's about it. For the rest of the country, this became an empty suit a couple of years ago.
Dotties girl - and when you have nothing you post as you do - with absolutely nothing. If you read many of the comments on this page, you'll either agree they are extremely racist or stick your head in the sand and deny, deny!
You have nothing in Romney/Ryan who change their stance (the ones they actually admit to) every day.
Bruce - those who are moderates are also jazzed. See moderates have no desire to watch the country go backward with the GOP. Progress is what keeps a country alive.
You don't have to be a feminist to appreciate the Democrats - just a sensible woman who wants to choose what to do for herself instead of having a party in control of everything she does. Your ignorance says it all.
Obama/Biden 2012
Let's go back to the 1950's when the top tax rate was 91%. Wouldn't that be great?
Let me sum up what this convention's message will be...George Bush did it, and the do nothing congress!
P.S. Rich people are evil ...Oh ya, and, they gonna keep y'all in chains! Now gimme my @!$%# pills for free damnit! The end
That's weak! Nazi comparisons, is that really all you have left?
Actually, a top Democrat in California also made a Nazi comparison just yesterday, when he compared Paul Ryan to Goebbels, so I guess you're not the only desperate Democrat.
So is Obama going to distance himself from those outrageous remarks by the California Democrat leader?
Or will he just let his people continue their campaign of hate?
You know the Democrats have lost the argument when they start making Nazi comparisons...
Eric/Matthew - The plight of the black community became much worse following 1965 to the present. Poverty, incarceration, teen pregnancy, out of wedlock births, single parent households, low academic achievement, school dropouts and crime have all skyrocketed. All with a broadening of a welfare-for-life role that reflects a self-defeatism that keeps many in the black community down. Hispanics are making great strides however. What do you consider may have brought about that reality?
Michelle Obama is so incredibly ugly, it hurts to look at her. They want to rekindle voter's enthusiasm but the only ones watching are the onces who are already democrats. Republicans won't be watching. Whose enthusiasm will be rekindled?
Wow, it looks as if some people still think that what people think controls the elections. Very funny. I read someone said BarrySoetoro threw Israel under the bus. Very funny. I hope people learn that Barry is clueless. He was chosen because he is the real son of Frank Marshall Davis, Communist/Marxist. They control him because his life is a LIE. Davis was married w 5 kids didn't want his wife to know another girl was pregnant by him. convinced Mr. Dunham to find another black man to marry Ann to make the child legitimate & save Mr. Dunham's job. Obama, Sr. was already married w 2 children in Kenya. Obama refused, but Dunham (CIA) sweetened the pot by extending Obama's visa so that he could go to Harvard.
Obama, Sr. only agreed to marry Ann if he had no responsibility for the child. Ann & Obama were married in Maui, away from his college friends in Honolulu. Ann was sent back to Washington State from where she never wanted to leave. A midwife delivered Barry. Mr. Dunham filed the birth certificate & listed "UNKNOWN" for father.
Barry Soetoro is such a fraud he doesn't give a flying fig about Americans. If he cared and was not such a manipulator & no doubt, a practitioner of black magic (Witchcraft is very big in Indonesia, as it is in the U.S.) he laughs his way through trying times. Bin Laden died in 12/ 01. Everyone news agency reported it, yet the Democratic Luciferians felt Americans are too stupid to know the difference. They fake Bin Laden's death & the U.S. Luciferian media is so evil, they pushed the lie & continue to push all the lies from 911 until today.
Grow up people. Doesn't the truth mean anything anymore? Obama screwed all of us in 2009. I am not voting for him & I am not voting for WACKO Romney, but I will write-in a candidate. I hope people will open your eyes & not vote for either of these two Luciferian puppets. They are both liars.
Search your souls and ask yourselves, what does being an American mean. How many of you will say, "Being an American means nothing."
There are three numbers democrats can't spin their way out of regardless of who speaks or how much media bias is on your side. 1) Unemployment over 8.2% for 42 consecutive months (it will be 43 months come Friday morning). 2) $16 trillion dollar national debt (with no plan to ever achieve a balanced budget). 3) $4,300.00 per household decline in family income during Obama's term.
Shaak
Federal Revenues, Outlays, and Deficits
1928 Rev $3.900 Bln, Outl $2.961 Bln, Surplus $939 Million
1929 Rev $3.862 Bln, Outl $3.126 Bln, Surplus $747 Million
1930 Rev $4.058 Bln, Outl $3.320 Bln, Surplus $737 Million

1932 Rev $1.924 Bln, Outl $4.659 Bln, Deficit $2.735 Bln. Hoover proposed and received public works projects to get the unemployed jobs. To pay for those Programs, he increased Taxes on the Rich. FDR runs on the "excessive spending" and tax increases. He would give people a "New Deal".
1933 Rev $1.997 Bln, Outl $4.598 Bln, Deficit $2.602 Bln
1934 Rev $2.955 Bln, Out $6.541 Bln, Deficit $3.586 Bln. Roosevelt and the Democrats first Budget. According to Roosevelt's own Treasury Secretary, they took the very programs Herbert Hoover had, changed the names, and threw even more money at those projects.
Now Explain to me where Herbert Hoover was matching Revenue to spending and in particular cutting spending. I must need new glasses, because I certainly cannot see that!
Also, despite adding 1 Billion to the budget in government make work programs, the unemployment rate continued to rise by at the same pace as the previous year. Just like the Obama stimulus package, there is a negligible impact on unemployment with make work programs. It just makes people think you care.
Seeking Sanity, I have been reading your posts for a while and I don't think you have any idea what moderates think.
Ha Ha.....I'm sure there will be republicans watching. They are hoping we have a "Clint Eastwood" surprise.....LOL
Michelle please go back to your Planet of the Apes movies that you escaped from and take the joke of a husband with you. You two have ripped up the White House lawn and our country. Good Riddence.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012
When all else fails, collapse the posts of those you disagree with. Those who preach tolerance tend to be the least tolerant among us. Go ahead and prove me right.. (collapse me)
The DNC is running on Clinton's record. Why can't Pres. Obama simply run on his record? Why can't he tell people that $4.00 per gallon gas is the norm? Why can't he simply say 8% unemployment is the new normal? Why can't he say that 50 million on food stamps is the new normal?
lisa - I've read your comments for some time and I realize you don't know what anyone who has any understanding of government or politics thinks! And, you clearly have no intelligent opinion about anything!
Obama/Biden 2012
Once again the Republicans pandering to the old white guy crowd. Say goodbye GOP. Your days are numbered.
I like the picture waist-high showing lack of support for the Dems.

NO EXCEPTIONS........And No Amount of Wall Street Generated False Enthusiasm is going to make up for Obama's Hope & Change Lies and His Broken Promises To America!
Bye Bye Barry!
DBAkron. When budgets in 1931, 1932 were passed, they were based on higher projected revenues than what was actually collected. However, national income fell by 60% + in this period leading to actual growing budget deficits. The primary concern of Republicans in this period was not stimulus spending, but tax increases to close the budget gap.
Did anybody look closely at the photo of the Obama supporters in the article? Those people look like they're all drugged or hypnotized! You libs better hope they don't forget to vote.
OldDog: A vision check might be appropriate! They lo9ked lovely to me!
Who keeps their promises? And who just obstructs and then blames the other side?
From PolitiFact.com:
A scorecard on President Obama's campaign promises
Four years ago, Barack Obama made an extraordinary array of campaign promises -- 508 pledges on everything from taxing the rich to ending the Iraq war.
He vowed to get health coverage for the uninsured and to safeguard the environment by capping carbon emissions. He pledged to push for comprehensive immigration reform and help homeowners after the housing market crashed.
Above all, he would change the tenor of the debate in Washington.
"We have a chance to bring the country together in a new majority — to finally tackle problems that Washington has ignored for too long. And that is why the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won't do in this election," he said in Blueprint for Change, a campaign document that became his presidential to-do list.
PolitiFact has been tracking all 508 promises and keeping tally on the Obameter throughout his presidency.
Our scorecard shows Obama kept 37 percent of his promises. He brought the war in Iraq to a close and finally achieved the Democratic dream of a universal health care program. When the United States had Osama bin Laden in its sights, Obama issued the order to kill.
Sixteen percent are rated Broken, often because they hit a brick wall in Congress. Global warming legislation passed the House but died in the Senate. He didn't even push for comprehensive immigration reform. His program to help homeowners facing foreclosure didn't even meet its own benchmarks. (PolitiFact rates campaign promises based on outcomes, not intentions.)
With four months left in Obama's term, PolitiFact has rated Obama's remaining promises Compromise (14 percent), Stalled (10 percent) or In the Works (22 percent).
One stands out as not only his biggest broken promise, but as an explanation for many others that have fizzled or failed: his pledge to bring people together for a bipartisan agenda.
"That, it seems to me, is the most important promise that the president has not been able to keep," said William Galston, a former Clinton administration aide who now is a fellow at the Brookings Institution and studies political polarization. "It will long be debated by historians whether he tried and failed, or didn't really try at all."
This is an accounting of the promises Obama kept and failed to keep, and how bipartisanship eluded him at nearly every turn.

Spending in an economy is private spending and government spending. During a recession, investment in increasing output has no reasonable objective. Private spending goes down in every one of our recessions. The government can borrow this unused investment money to finance deficit spending on stimulative efforts. These stimulative efforts by the government increase employment in the economy and lead to increased private spending which in turn further stimulates the economy until sustained growth allows investors something profitable to invest in. Tax increases on the rich also can be used to take this unused investment money and put it to work in the economy (as DBAkron cites Hoover as doing) in building infrastructure such as the Hoover Dam to spur employment.
However, in the years 1931 -1932, focusing on stimulus was secondary to trying to balance the budget. Declining revenues from the rapidly deteriorating economy made Hoover's goal of a balanced budget an unreachable pipe dream. La Follett, a leading critic of balanced budget approach, called for massive government spending to make up for the unprecedented decline in private spending. But Hoover could not do it on anything more than a limited scale, since he remained an advocate of the balanced budget.
Cool a blackcatwhitecat Now tell US isn't that a telling Nickname? Almost as telling as this Headline The enthusiasm gap?

Are you better off now than 4 years ago? Beyond the obvious that it is a silly question, Republicans have resurrected another of Reagan's ideas further proof they have nothing new to offer except old cliches, failed policies and lies to sell them. Conservatives yesterday criticized the three Obama surrogates who were asked that question on three different networks. Chuck Todd said the democrats are headed into the convention on the defensive. Really?
Are we better off now than we were in 2008? For starters, what a silly question for republicans to ask. It isn't 1980, Romney is not Reagan and Obama is not Carter. The question itself is a reminder of Bush/Cheney and the disaster the GOP created. Secondly, you bet we are better off for many reasons, far more than I can possibly list.
George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are gone after 8 years of trillions in unfunded spending and disastrous policies that literally collapsed the economy. In Sep 2008, Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and within days the entire global financial industry tettered on the brink of total collapse. We hovered on the edge of a cliff named Great Depression. Wall Street dropped half its value, sunk like a rock but now it hovers around 13,000.
Beginning in Dec 2007, we were losing jobs by the hundreds of thousands. In the second quarter of 2009, that trend slowed and we began digging out of the giant hole Bush/Cheney/GOP had left. Now, we have had 29 straight months of job growth, 4.5 million jobs have been created; we have added more manufacturing jobs than had been created in over a decade. President Obama and Democratic policies have created more jobs in 3 1/2 years than Bush/Cheney created in 8 years.
We were mired in two unfunded, unfinished, lengthy wars with no end in sight and republicans seemed perfectly content to "stay the course" forever. Now Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.
Health care reform was finally passed after decades of trying by both parties; it isn't perfect but it does much for many. The Lilly Ledbetter law means women have the right to equal pay for equal work; that employers can no longer discriminate by paying lower wages to women in the same jobs as men.
Don't Ask Don't Tell is history thanks to President Obama and democrats; and the military is better for it and over a year later one wonders what the fuss was about because no one even noticed. The Veteran's act was passed with the most comprehensive benefits to the GI Bill since that law was first passed. Bush had threatened to veto the bill. President Obama and Democratics believe in taking care of our veterans while republicans seem to prefer just shipping them off to fight their wars.
There are countless other reasons why we are better off than we were in 2008. We need only look back to 2008 to know we have come a long way. We still have further to go, more to do to recover from a Near Depression. It has been a bumpy ride made all the more bumpy by GOPers in Congress who put Party First over the good of the people and the Nation. Shame on the GOP for earning a paycheck to do nothing except obstruct. History will not be kind to the GOPers in Congress for their unwillingness to put the American people first but instead made defeating President Obama their #1 priority--no matter the cost in human suffering and pain.
I believe in HOPE, not fear. On Jan 20, 2009, republican legislators looked out at the million people on the Washington mall for the Inauguration and fear overwhelmed them. The first African American President had been sworn into office, in and of itself a reason to say we are better off than we were four years ago. For all our troubles today, for all our differences--ideological and personal--we are better off. Change We can Believe In.
Jody, Iowa
Islamic terrorists certainly are not. To a man they think it was pure hell.
Are you better off now than 4 years ago?
Heck Yes, and that is a FACT.
Ole Obama, yeah, he's nothing like Bush at all. Dropping bombs from drones all over the middle east, killing who knows who. Gee, seems like a bunch of loud mouthed libbies should be bashing him for that. So where are you hypocrites?
Apologies for the errors, couldn't get the edit feature to post my corrections and revisions but you get the idea. That should be teetered not tettered and Ledbedder, not Ledbetter.
Job1,
Heck NO and it is directly due to BHO policies, that is a FACT, too. 23 million other people might agree with me.
You Betcha!
Dupe, sorry
kenva, seems I hit a nerve this morning. By the way, hypocrites are those who think George W. Bush never used a drone.
Neal in Denver, why don't you ask the GOP House and GOPer Senators why they blocked, obstructed and filibustered every effort to create jobs for those 23 million the GOP touts. If the GOP really cared, they would have helped.
Obama – Biden 2012 - Still Cleaning up the Bush-Ryan Mess!!!
You should give the keynote speech at the Democratic convention, Jody (or, at least write it!)
*stands and applauds Jody's post*
Amen to that, Jody. There are so many things that have been accomplished over the last three and a half years. It is time for the Democrats to take credit for these accomplishments and call out the Repugs for their obstructionism.
INGRAHAM: You've also noted that there are signs of improvement on the horizon in the economy. How do you answer the president's argument that the economy is getting better in a general election campaign if you yourself are saying it's getting better?
ROMNEY: Well, of course it's getting better. The economy always gets better after a recession, there is always a recovery. […]
INGRAHAM: Isn't it a hard argument to make if you're saying, like, OK, he inherited this recession, he took a bunch of steps to try to turn the economy around, and now, we're seeing more jobs, but vote against him anyway? Isn't that a hard argument to make? Is that a stark enough contrast?
ROMNEY: Have you got a better one, Laura? It just happens to be the truth.
Are you better off now than 4 years ago?
Yes I am --- much, much better off. At this time in 2008 my retirement plans were in shambles. My investments and my 401-K were in the toilet and the value of my home and rental properties were crashing. I had planned to retire in 2010 but that was out of the picture had the Bush depression continued. Today -- real-estate has stabilizes-- even bumped up a little and my investments are back. I missed my retirement date by a year but in 2008 I questioned if I would ever be able to retire.
And remember -- Rooney's plans for the economy, tax cuts for the richest of the rich, more defense spending and more deregulation are the same things that crashed the economy in the first place.
Jody:Are you better off now than 4 years ago?
YES☺ Thank you mister president!
Obama 2012
Great post, Jody---must have hit some nerves to be collapsed by the cowards so fast.
I always disliked that question because a person can be better off than they were 4 years ago but the country not so much. This was the case for me with the Bush administration---I was better off after 4 years of Bush/Cheney but it was so clear that the country was going in the wrong direction.
This year I am WAY better off than I was 4 years ago--the recovery of my retirement funds makes my future brighter, my small business has never been better and my husband's pension and benefits are secure, thanks to his union. More importantly, our country is no longer in a freefall, we're out of one war, leaving another, respected throughout the world and jobs are being created every month. That is progress. We have a way to go still but there is no one I would trust more to lead us than President Obama.
Is there even ONE conservative coward who's got the nerve to come on here and explain why they voted for this post to be collapsed? ONE person who can point out how it violates the code of honor in any way? ONE person who's willing to admit that it had nothing to do with the code of honor and that they just didn't want anyone to have the chance to read Jody's well-thought out and well-written post and decide for themselves whether they agreed with it or not?
Okay, that's obviously asking too much. How about just ONE person who's willing to come on here and admit that collapsing a post for no good reason (other than that you disagree with it) is not only juvenile, but that doing so only makes that many more people want to read it and vote for it? As I'm writing this now, Jody's post has gotten 20 votes. How many more has it gotten now that it's been collapsed? And in collapsing Jody's post, how many of your own side's comments did you take down with it?
Please.....just once.....could somebody on either side who plays these stupid games please explain to me what you get out of it? I honestly want to know.
P.S. - To answer Jody's question - yes, I am better off, thank you. So are my family and friends. So is my community. So are many, many local businesses. Compared to what things looked like this time four years ago, things are far better off than I ever could have hoped for.
Four years ago I had fear. Today I have hope. And that IS change.
Had obama not had made the reverse racist comment of telling the republicans to "sit in the back of the bus" obama would have had the cooperation needed to really get things done without bypassing congress.
Thank you friends. As for the Collapse Cowards, I find their actions proof of ignorance; in their efforts to silence one voice they dislike and a voice they know spoke the truth, they silence all the conservative posts contained within it. Not too bright of bulbs the Collapse Cowards, eh?
Jody, I found this quote from Forrest. (Thanks Forrest!)
And I have friends who say the same thing, about the doubling of their investments under President Obama.
" in Nov 2008 the Dow was at 7,553 it is now at 13,206, in Nov 2008 the nasdaq was at 1,316 it is now at 3,067, in Nov 2008 the S&P was at 752 it is now at 1,406. The loss of wealth under Bush was staggering, not to mention the losses due to the devaluing of real-estate, the stock markets have more than doubled since Obama took over.
I lost $480,000 of my retirement portfolio under Bush, since Obama took over I have gained all that back and then some. Any investor will tell you if you can double your money in four years that is a mighty, mighty fine return.
Pretty impressive performance under the watch of a president who supposedly has such an adverse effect on business. You can blame Obama all you want..but the facts clearly dispute what you say, and my account numbers don't lie."
HOLY CR@P, 7.62x39mm!!! That must be it! Yep, that single comment is what caused all of the Republican/TP Inc. legislators to not only block any Obama initiative, but to also vote against bills that they had co-sponsored.
You're a genius!!!
<end sarcasm>
P.S. please provide a link to verify that statement. I think I remember him saying it, but I also believe that you are probably taking it entirely out of context.
Matthew:
Try this link, courtesy of Fox News itself - (and note that there's no "bus" mentioned anywhere:
"He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. Now that progress has been made, he said, "we can't have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back."
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/10/25/obama-tells-republicans-sit/
Sounds like 7.62X39mm prefers the special interests riding shotgun and middle class families riding in the back. Or maybe they go in a crate up on the roof?
Excellent post this morning Jody! I am amazed at how quickly it was collapsed. I think people prefer reading many of them that have been! And I agree with Amy - I hope you write many other places besides FR. You've got an excellent style and flow.
Ahh, thanks, JoAnne. Looks like ol'7.62x39mm is a 'one shot wonder'. ;-))))
Hope you are doing well.
Mr. Romney Reinvents History
Published: August 30, 2012
Mitt Romney wrapped the most important speech of his life, for Thursday night’s session of his convention, around an extraordinary reinvention of history — that his party rallied behind President Obama when he won in 2008, hoping that he would succeed. “That president was not the choice of our party,” he said. “We are a good and generous people who are united by so much more than divides us.”
The truth, rarely heard this week in Tampa, Fla., is that the Republicans charted a course of denial and obstruction from the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated, determined to deny him a second term by denying him any achievement, no matter the cost to the economy or American security — even if it meant holding the nation’s credit rating hostage to a narrow partisan agenda.
Mr. Romney’s big speech, delivered in a treacly tone with a strange misty smile on his face suggesting he was always about to burst into tears, was of a piece with the rest of the convention. Republicans have offered precious little of substance but a lot of bromides (“A free world is a more peaceful world!”) meant to convey profundity and take passive-aggressive digs at President Obama. But no subjects have received less attention, or been treated with less honesty, than foreign affairs and national security — and Mr. Romney’s banal speech was no exception.
It’s easy to understand why the Republicans have steered clear of these areas. While President Obama is vulnerable on some domestic issues, the Republicans have no purchase on foreign and security policy. In a television interview on Wednesday, Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of state, could not name an area in which Mr. Obama had failed on foreign policy.
For decades, the Republicans were able to present themselves as the tougher party on foreign and military policy. Mr. Obama has robbed them of that by being aggressive on counterterrorism and by flexing military and diplomatic muscle repeatedly and effectively.
Mitt Romney has tried to sound tough, but it’s hard to see how he would act differently from Mr. Obama except in ways that are scary — like attacking Iran, or overspending on defense in ways that would not provide extra safety but would hurt the economy.
Before Thursday night, the big foreign policy speeches were delivered by Senator John McCain and Ms. Rice. Mr. McCain was specific on one thing: Mr. Obama’s plan to start pulling out of Afghanistan at the end of 2014 is too rapid. While he does not speak for Mr. Romney, his other ideas were unnerving, like suggesting that the United States should intervene in Syria.
Mr. Romney reportedly considered Ms. Rice as a running mate, and she seems to have real influence. But Ms. Rice is a reminder of the colossal errors and deceptions of George W. Bush’s administration. She was a central player in the decision to invade Iraq and the peddling of fantasies about weapons of mass destruction. She barely mentioned Iraq in her speech and spoke not at all about Afghanistan. She was particularly ludicrous when she talked about keeping America strong at home so it could be strong globally, since she was part of the team that fought two wars off the books and entirely on borrowed money.
Ms. Rice said the United States has lost its “exceptionalism,” but she never gave the slightest clue what she meant by that — a return to President Bush’s policy of preventive and unnecessary war?
She and Mr. McCain both invoked the idea of “peace through strength,” but one of the few concrete proposals Mr. Romney has made — spending 4 percent of G.D.P. on defense — would weaken the economy severely. Mr. McCain was not telling the truth when he said Mr. Obama wants to cut another $500 billion from military spending. That amount was imposed by the Republicans as part of the extortion they demanded to raise the debt ceiling.
Ms. Rice said American allies need to know where the United States stands and that alliances are vitally important. But the truth is that Mr. Obama has repaired those alliances and restored allies’ confidence in America’s position after Mr. Bush and Ms. Rice spent years tearing them apart and ruining America’s reputation in the world.

Ol’ Willard wants us to buy so many of these pigs in a poke he must think that we are just waiting for some silver-tongued Yahoo to come in a sell us one again.
He don’t want to come clean on his Taxes but you just look at this fine pig I’ve got in the poke over here for you.
He don’t want to answer no questions about when he left Bain and what it did to folks but you look over here and he thinks that that pig might be a Yorkshire.
He don’t want you to know what he’s going to do with tax policy even though we all know that something has to be done. He will tell you that that Yorkshire is nice and plump though.
He won’t tell you that his choice of V.P. was probably a mistake foisted upon him by the more rabidly Yahoo’s of the Party on who’s platform he is trying to run on but if you’ll look over here that plump pig surely has an apple in its mouth.
And he and Lil’ Paulie damn sure don’t want to look at his Foreign Policy ‘cause he ain’t got one.
But you’ll Yahoo’s just keep concentrating on that plump old Yorkshire over there in that sack he’s holdin’.
I just hope that when you’ll find out that the bag just holds a couple of rocks to shape it out that you’ll don’t do major damage smacking yourself upside the head when you find out that you’ve been had.
Again
Obama repaired those alliances? I'm pretty sure the Israelies would beg to differ.
To say nothing of the Brits.
no joe
The Israelis play every American President like a fiddle. No worries there, they can work with anyone.
The Brits are not Romney fans. In case you missed it, he managed to insult them at the London Olympics, by suggesting they might not have been ready to host the Games. Michelle had her hands full, soothing their rumpled feelings. Thank goodness an Obama was there to make America look good!
NoJo
I'm a Brit and you do not have any idea of what you are talking about.
BTW ... that 700Million bucks MSNBC got from stimulus money, care to go there again?
I'm still waiting for Professor Snookie-Joe explain to us how rape disrupts ovulation...
Actually, bcwc, I believe it was only $500,000-but,if you say seven, well, maybe you know more than I.
It's hard to keep up with your nationalities- Canadian, American, British- what's next, Martian?
no joe, no bo, nj
That is a quote from you yesterday. That is not a typo error. Guess you were just drunk again.
Feisty.....I'm still waiting for your hero to list the other 7 states in America OR maybe why unemployment has run from 8.1% to 10.2% during your saviors entire term(the worst in 70 years and one for record books) and HE THINKS the Private sector is doing ok? What a nit wit or a LIAR!!! I hope you choke on your buttered popcorn this week when watchinbg the DNC circus.
IR---if the Republicans had rolled up their sleeves and worked as hard as they could to fix the mess they made out of the economy, I could see their aruments for making a change. Heck, if they had just stood back and done nothing I might feel differently. But they have spent the last four years acting like spoiled children, obstructing every thing the President has proposed to heal the economy---even measures they historically supported. And their actions have hurt their fellow citizens beyond measure. It is reprehensible what they have done to our country in their quest to limit President Obama to one term.
Steeler Fan....Seems you have a selective memory. The "other party" was in control of Congress when Reagan and Clinton were in office and they never could get what they wanted and had to give in many times to reach a negotiated deal. Something that your hero never learned how to do in his 4 years.
The 1% said Trickle Down is coming ??????
It just takes a few....crap....ten....no....twenty....damn it....thirty years, then it will work. I swear!
The "other party" was in control of Congress when Reagan and Clinton were in office
You fail to mention that the parties are not the same today as they were in Reagan/Clinton's time - the Democratic Party lost Ted Kennedy and the Republican Party has lost it's marbles. Clinton never had a House that would have turned down massive spending cuts in exchange for raising taxes on the wealthiest. The Republican Party is filled with nuts.
IR, terrific post. Amy, Steeler Fan good points.
trilliondollar, guess you missed out on all the compromises President Obama and democrats made with republicans. Apparently in your world, because the GOP didn't vote for the legislation filled with their own amendments, that means there was no compromise.
Amy - well said. No other President in history has had opposing party members in Congress take a pledge to obstruct everything he attempted to do. But, then, the GOP is no longer a party of reason or intellect - just a party based on hatred and stupidity.
Obama/Biden 2012
Amy, Jody, and Seeking Insanity.....Nice selective memory on your part. You either were not yet born or smoking too much pot during those days to remember that there were many contentious battles between Reagan and the Dems.....but don't let that get in the way of your narrow minds. Just like your hero who doesn't know how to compromise. Libtard Idiots!
BTW...Jody....I will be laughing at you all the way when Iowa votes for Romney as it is a close swing state
Trillion----if EVER there was a time to put partisanship aside and pull together for the good of the entire country, the economic collapse of 2008 was it. It was not time for politics as usual and bickering over how we got there---we were facing a collapse equal to the Depression and the Republicans put their desire to defeat President Obama over the welfare of the entire country. They were willing to see their fellow citizens without jobs and in risk of losing their homes in order to retake the Presidency in 2016. They made the wrong bet, for sure.
trilliondollar - yes there were contentious times but again, no party EVER before met and vowed to block EVERYTHING a President attempted to do - not until the Republicans when Obama took office. Tell it any way you want - the Republicans are to blame for the slow recovery. Had they not become obstructionists we would be in better shape now!
Clearly YOU are smoking those funny cigarettes now! Probably should put them down - they're rotting what little brain you have!
Obama/Biden 2012
Steeler Fan.....Because Obama has divided the country so much due to his policies what will most likely happen is it will make the Senate more conservative in November. Your hero made the wrong bet and it will backfire on any of his future agenda.
BTW....Seeking Insanity....Keep up the LIBTARD spin. Hows that MJ laced angel dust working for you
trilliondollar - NO - the Republicans divided this country with their hatred and leis. Too bad you refuse to admit the truth. But, the truth seems to be beyond Republicans these days.
The Senate will stay Democratic and we may just take the House in November as well as retain the White House.
Clearly drugs are your specialty - I have no clue what MJ laced angel dust is. But, you keep hitting the hard stuff - I'm sure it makes you feel better about yourself!
Oh, and I find insanity every time I read the post of a lunatic like you!
Obama/Biden 2012
Anyone who thinks Obama is a good thing are mighty MISTAKEN. The man will take your souls, chew them up and spit it right back into your faces if he is re-elected. You have no idea what a con man this demon/devil is. How sad, how very, very sad, that those who believe him and vote for him, will be crucifying yourselves and the America as we have know her. The concrete plans he will be talking about in his most cunning and conniving way (con man) will place a (concrete) anchor around your neck and sink you into the depths of despair. I may just pack up all my belongings and move to another country, because America is DOOMED under Obama's leadership, or lack of.
Romney/Ryan
2012
Dang A. Taylor -- for a while I was convinced Bush was the anti-christ & I don't even go to church!
I love how the Libs fail to remember that the economy tanked in 2007/2008, about 1 - 2 years after they took over congress in 2006 and started enacting their spending policies that have us in record debt & unemployment so high it's not even recorded properly anymore.
Instead they love to deflect blame "on the other party that won't work with us" when it is completely clear that any real leaders like Clinton (when he wasn't getting blown by Lewinsky) & Reagan got congress to work with them and get stuff done.
Obama just needs to crawl back in his hole in crooked Chicago.....maybe even try to bail his buddy Blagojevich out of jail or visit his racist brother Jackson at Mayo.
Seeking Insanity..............Baahahahahahah.....You are dreaming about the House and Senate, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a libtard on Xanex. How's that Kaleidoscope working for you?
They are all holding signs that say forward, they don't say what direction that is, and I think that is what the Indians hollered when the buffalo were almost to the cliff. if its dark out and someone tells you to run forward will you ? or will you cautiously take each step one at a time. do you know why herd animals live in herds and pack animals live in packs because herd animals are stupid and can't defend themselves so they bunch up in hopes it will be the other guy that gets it, pack animals are more intelligent and confident in themselves, also very competitive, the herd animals are the ones that always suffer in the end because they don't know how to make a choice on their own, I'm just warning you that there is a big cliff right in front of you and the one that is saying forward isn't moving, he plans on letting you go first that's why he leads from behind pushing instead of leading. America does not need to be pushed in any of the forward directions, it just needs to be led in the proper direction , one that goes someplace, some place other then over a cliff. don't turn this election into a buffalo jump.
Another word they use that I don't think is as great as it sounds is Evolve, Evolve into what? the word sounds nice you think of a worm turning into a butterfly, on the other hand the term means the deer that was consumed by the bear Evolved into a pile of bear sh!t, what is with all this sublimital word messaging, do they think people are stupid or something? Evolve, forward, those words can mean anything. I think it was Custer that was always screaming forward, it didn't work out to well for those guys. whats the term the scientist use to describe a bacterial infection, I think it goes like once the infection evolves there is no hope for the patient. so cancer evolves and forward is any direction you happen to be facing. and there are such things as cliffs, mud bogs, pits and swamps full of deadly things, Iguess that is why Obama pushes instead of leads.
hey trillion. I would defer from 'debating' with seeking, you'll find yourself playing im rubber, you're glue. Seeking fancies itself an intellectual giant and mogul yet is really nothing more than a mental midget. im sorry little person.
Amy Portland - The numerous 'magical' changes that promote the irreproachable 'purity and benevolence' of the Democrat Party is diminished through the supernatural phenomena of social and economic realities. And they say there is no God.
Amy
The British government had little problem with what Romney said, it was the press that was aghast.
Please refer us to the specific policies passed by the Democratic Congress and signed by President GW Bush which led to the collapse.
That's important, because Democrats in Congress didn't have the power to "enact" anything without President Bush's signature.
FAT Readhead says;
PS: I cannot wait to see Michelle Obama represent what a genuine First Lady looks like tonight!
That is what you call a "first lady"? Is that Zira from Planet of the Apes? OR? Is that the one that is "Finally proud to be an American"? Is that the one that Barrack calls "cute"? You got to be kidding me(gag and puke). She is the first puke a## skank I would want out of "The Peoples" House". How many white kids, Fiesty Dipsh##, does she have around her at her dumb a## "eat right" get togethers? Maybe she ought to turn around and look at her fat ### in the mirror before she opens that ugly mug? Fiesty Dips###, its only months away, and Oblunder in Chief will be gone. Get out your blanket crying towel if that will fit your mellon.
Caesar - as usual, you have to use my term "mental midget" because you are totally unable to think one up of your own. You personify the limited intelligent of the radical far right yet you are so excited to show it every day.
trillion - that's perfect. When you can't argue successfully - post the Bahhahahahahahaha because it makes you look SO intelligent - NOT!
read tothetop's post ahead of me. It shows the total decline of the GOP and the depths you people will go to in order to put a good President and a great First Lady down. It shows how completely pathetic the G(ross) O(ld) P(erverts) has become!
Both of you prove there is no sanity whatsoever in the GOP!
Obama/Biden 2012
I do get a laugh out of those who write that Republican legislators "obstructed" the President from doing what he wanted to do with our sickly economy. Who says that any plans the President had actually deserved to be put into place ? As the President admitted...and even chuckled about when he thought the cameras were off..."those shovel-ready jobs weren't as shovel-ready as we had thought"...after spending nearly a trillion dollars on the 'stimulus plan' that was supposed to create millions of new jobs, especially on infrastructure projects. Two-thirds of the stimulus money my state received went to municipal school systems, but for budget plumping, not for any new school construction needs.
you're term LOL??...what an arrogant POS coffee house libtard. you're dismissed.
Seeking Insanity.....You are the one who continually puts down everyone who disagrees with you. You like to dish it out, but can't take it. Typical Libtard. Your mother will wipe the tears from your eyes if you run home quick enough. Maybe you can get your hero to convince Reid and Pelosi to pass some anti bullying legislation for vine comments.....YOU are the epitome of a joke.....Look at the polls of the Senate.........The Dems are going down in November no matter what kind of spin you try to put on it.
Liberals like to ignore the fact they have been in control of the House for 46 of the past 60 years, and 40 of the past 60 in the Senate. That is a pretty big footprint and a ton of responsibility for the condition of the country. But we know how liberals think, if it was good under Democrats watch take credit for it, if it were bad under Democrats watch blame someone else. The Democrats are the party of blame and excuses, and no responsibility. Democrats are for bigger government, more spending, more borrowing, more entitlements, higher taxes, and liberals claim the Republicans are the party of no new ideas.
um, tony -
In answer to your question - the majority of Americans that VOTED for President Obama in 2008 SAID that President Obama DESERVED to have his plans, his appointees and his policies put in place!
That's kinda' how a democracy works. If I had a Draw Something tool here - I'd sketch it out for you; but something tells me you're being deliberately obtuse.
So, the GOP is crowing about how Mitt Romney went to Louisiana over the weekend while the President was campaigning...so, basically, they're complaining that the President didn't go to Louisiana.
That's nice, but I have a question for the GOP...and I'll even be nice and make it a multiple-choice answer for you:
You want to complain that the President DIDN'T go to Louisiana...but if he DID go to Louisiana, which of the following would be your biggest complaint?
A. "The President travelling with all of his security entourage is just getting in the way of those trying to provide aid and relief!"
B. "What good is the President doing down there? He's still just campaigning!"
C. "Oh, great...there's the President trying to exploit Hurricane Isaac for his own political gain!"
D. All Of The Above
Reince Priebus and all of the Republicans in this bubble lie as much as Lying Ryan and Willard. What a great lesson the GOP is sending to the kids of America. Lying is the answer. However, if the election were held today, President Obama would win in a big way.
Wrong!
E. none of the above. See, what I wanted him to do, was look at the results of not building the levee there, because it "never flooded" and there weren't enough people living there to,justify building it.
That, however, did not fit your narrative, which, by the way, we're the excuses given for when Bush did not go to New Orleans after Katrina.
None of them were acceptable.
Thanks for bringing up flood protection, it's been an occasional topic of mine since Katrina.
Because it would just be the name of another hurricane if "fiscal conservatives" hadn't deliberately left the city ill-equipped for a storm that everyone KNEW would come one day...it was just a matter of when.
How many BILLIONS of dollars, how many lives were lost because we were too cheap to spend a few million on additional flood protections. THERE is where your "fiscal conservatism" gets you...false economy.
So how did we respond, knowing from direct evidence that the existing flood protection was inadequate? Naturally we rebuilt everything to the same level, still knowing that one day, maybe this year, maybe 40 years from now, they will be overwhelmed by flood water.
So much for the wisdom of "fiscal conservatism."
I kind of like the way the President did things---let the worst of the weather crisis pass, give time to the folks on the ground to figure out what help they need and then meet with them to see the damage, receive their reports, help with assistance and show support to the people.
I am sure that the President did not tell anyone who lost their home to go home and call 211 for assistance like Romney did. Excuse me---the woman lost her home and there is no power. What phone was she to use and how would anyone get her call?
What's up with Mitt & Annie Romney's "TAX RETURNS" What are they hiding from America ???
Red_Cloud - I particularly loved that Romney said the charitable groups needed to step up and help the flood victims - no mention of federal support.
Obama/Biden 2012
Seeking Insanity...Too bad the Prez. couldn't make it down to visit the flood victims before the GOP candidate.....How's that for Caring, Hope, and Change?
See my original post above...damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, right?
Da Noid - we all know the President made the trip at the appropriate time. Trillion just looks more pathetic with every post. Clearly the drugs have done him in!
Obama/Biden 2012
Noid when does he DO? Hey noid, why dont you tell us how the GOP also created Nazi Germany. I love your guys' fairy tales.
Seeking Insanity...........Hows that hope and caring working for you....That insanity defense doesn't work anymore....Time for your Xanex medication.
BTW.....voting for yourself doesn't make you look more intelligent
trilliondollar - again, you know so much about these medications I guess they're part of everyday for you!
As I often say, seeking sanity in the GOP but you and those like you prove there is absolutely none to be found!
Obama/Biden 2012
trilliondollar - so now I'm voting for myself. Sorry charlie, I'm working and posting. Don't have time for stupidity like voting for myself but, if it makes you feel better, go ahead an believe that! It's all you've got!
Obama/Biden 2012
Seeking Insanity....There you go again voting for yourself........I don't capitulate to libtards like you
Obama DID go to New Orleans. Didn't any of you catch the late news last night?
seeking yet you have the time for the stupidity that comes out of your mouth. Do you understand irony? I think you libs spend way too much time in your coffee houses and baristas.
bmilleroh
Obama had no plans to go to Louisiana. He was just next door in Texas when Romney went. Knowing the timing of the Hurricane, he could have pushed back a fundraiser or campaign stop instead of cancelling the one in Ohio.
Romney only went when he did because he was scheduled for a joint appearance with Ryan in Virginia that day.
Caesar - you are not one to talk to anyone about idiotic posts. And, you don't dictate to me what I can do with my time - while working. But, you go ahead. It makes you feel better to attack me and post absolutely nothing of value! Typical Republican!
DB - as usual, you're a damned liar. The President announced - BEFORE Isaac hit - that he would be visiting the area after the storm. When you have to post lies to make a "point" the "point" is moot!
Obama/Biden 2012
@ Patriotic American, Why doesn't Obama show us what it is that he is hiding in all the years of sealed records, what is with that. we don't know squat about the man and he is our president I can't believe he could even be elected, we have a stranger in the white house. Obama doesn't have any room to be requesting information from Romney or anyone till he reveals his past to us. why all the secrets? besides its a never ending cycle to keep it in the front if Romney presented 5 years then the request would be for 5 more and then another 5, its just political staging. he is hiding some bad things.
D Buck - President Obama is hiding nothing. He he has shown more than any other President in modern time. No other President has been asked to show his birth certificate. He has shown his tax returns since 2000.
Romney on the other hand has shown nothing. He hasn't even shown 1 full year of tax returns. His father released 12 years.
You are deflecting since you know you are running a cheating liar for President! Romney is so deceitful and doesn't complete a sentence without lying!
Obama/Biden 2012
Don't forget he pretty much left the photo op scene to go boating all weekend. He truly wouldn't know hard work if it bit him on his ass.
Just the way he is handling this campaign tells us all we need to know about HIS entitlement.
Romney and Ryan did not get a bounce after the Republican convention. They actually lost ground.
The newest research from Nate has it as the NOV 6 factors:
“Obama chance of winning 74.8% Romney 25.2%”
“Projected Winner Obama 308.2”
“Projected Loser Romney 229.8”
However, if the election was being voted in “Now Cast” Today:
Totals
“Obama chance of winning 71.1% Romney 28.9%”
“Projected Winner Obama 293.3”
“Projected Loser Romney 244.7”
I have different numbers. I have Romney and Obama in a dead heat. This is far from decided
We will see. This is an issue of good against evil. Obama good, and Romany the evil money grabbing screw the people over choice.
Job1...Try looking at other projected electoral map polls dumba$$. There are now 2 to 3 additional swing states in the last 3 weeks that were firmly under your hero....Bye Bye Obama...One&Done
It was hilarious watching Chris Wallace try to get a straight answer our of mush mouth Axelrod yesterday about Obama's record. He answered every Wallace question with, "Romney's plan does this", "Ryan's plan does that". Too funny. Apparently, Axelrod can't think of anything good in Obama's record. Amazing. I bet most of America can't either. Just call em all racist, eh Job1? Not everyone is as stupid as you are.
Good Morning all.
My First Thoughts are:
Let's hope that the Democratic Convention is a successful one. No one should be hoping for storms or Hurricanes to rain on their Parade, unlike all the hopeful Libs that were hoping for the worse to happen for the Republican convention.
I definitely like the person that is speaking tonigh, Castro seems to be a solid person. Forget that he is hispanic since most people should vote for the person's knowledge.
I plan to watch the entilre thing on NBC, even if I have to get sick with the opinionated, Sharpton, tingle up my legs, Rachel Maddaw and the rest of the cast.
It is the Libs week to go crazy and enjoy, and they will get a bump.
Just Polls: Obama 46.1% Romney 46.1%
http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2012-general-election-romney-vs-obama#!mindate=2011-08-16
Uh...what?
Xabre, there is a comma betwee the two names. Please use your imagination which seems to be enormous. If you do not know who Mr. Chilled up the legs is them google it.
If this does not give you a hint then I don't know what will.
By the way, good luck with the Convention, seriously. We had our week and now it is time for your week.
opinionated -> Sharpton
tingle up your legs -> Maddaw
That would be how English works; even though your use of commas is...mediocre to put it lightly.
Chris Matthews said "tingle up your legs" in 2008.
Backhouse, you got it. Matthews is well known for that quote. I'm surprised that Xabre did not know.
xabre- good try in always complaining about my post. Please look at the commas. lol
You mean your obvious and utter misuse of the aforementioned commas? Yes, I saw that.
It will be a Romney/Ryan landslide...
Just like Reagan beat the piss out of Mr. Peanut!
I, for one, cannot wait!
ABO 2012! Vote against Obama like your life depends on it!
"Last year, under President Obama's failed leadership, 1.4 million businesses filed for bankruptcy!" - Congressman Paul Ryan, 9/3/2012
Uh...actually, that number was 47,806. Damn right, you're not letting fact-checkers dictate your campaign!
So repubs want the free market to decide who stays in business - yet blame the government when those businesses fail? Clowns.
Hey, Noid -
Speaking of that "failed leadership".....as usual, it took Jon Stewart's "fake" newscast to hit the nail on the head about Clint Eastwood and Mitt Romney's speeches last week. In a piece called "The Old Man and the Seat", Stewart finally explained the reason why Republicans have been ranting about that "failed leadership" for four years - there's actually ANOTHER Obama out there that only Republicans can see - "Invisible Obama" - the very same one who was on stage last week with Clint Eastwood. Stewart didn't actually say so, but I also suspect that "Invisible Obama" comes from that parallel universe in the old Star Trek episode where everyone is the exact opposite of the way they are in our own world. So obviously the Republicans' "Invisible Obama" really IS a Kenya-born socialist who's bent on destroying America for his own nefarious reasons. I'm guessing he even has horns and a forked tongue, but that's only a guess, of course - not being a Republican, I've never been able to see "Invisible Obama" like they can.
Okay, that segment of Stewatrt's show was pretty funny. What wasn't so funny was where he went on to talk about Romney's own acceptance speech last week where he claimed he wanted President Obama to succeed, and showed a clip from an interview Romney did a while back with Neal Cavuto (I think - I don't have cable and don't know all these people as well as some of you). Anyway, Romney was asked about Rush Limbaugh's outrageous words about wanting President Obama to fail from the very start. Romney's reply? "Rush is partially right. I'm not gonna try and parse words here, but of course we don't want failed policies to succeed".
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/jon-stewart-basks-in-the-glory-of-clint-eastwoods-awesome-speech-while-tearing-apart-romneys/
Making that same statement last week would have been at least somewhat understandable, especially if, like Romney, you'd only been able to see "Invisible Obama" for four years. The trouble is, Romney didn't say it last week - the clip was actually from from January 28, 2009 - EIGHT DAYS after the President took the oath of office. Eight days later and Romney had irrevocably decided that the President's policies had already failed. Eight whole days.....
In last weeks' speech - and no doubt several more between now and election day, since it seems to be their new "kinder, gentler" strategy - Romney claimed that he really wanted Obama to succeed. As usual, though, the tapes show otherwise. Which is why I'm guessing Romney wishes he sometimes knew how to become "Invisible Mitt".
If this were anywhere close to Stalin you'd currently be in the gulag.
...oh, you mean the one about California refusing federal funds for some bridges so they could hire a Chinese welding company?
...so, California refuses the funding to hire a Chinese firm...and that's the President's fault because...?
"News98"
You appear to have missed the point completely so shall we try it again?
(I'll speak slowly for you.)
IF ... CALIFORNIA ... REFUSED ... FEDERAL ... FUNDING ... TO ... BUILD ... THE ... BRIDGES ... AND ... HIRED ... A ... CHINESE ... FIRM ... HOW ... IS ... THAT ... THE ... PRESIDENT'S ... FAULT?
Da Noid: News98 cannot be debated with. He/she is simply copying and pasting the same post all over the place.
Xabre - News98 is useless!
BozoHussan==NBC=GE= Chicago MOBpolitics=lie, cheat, steal ,twist every crises to benefit your Pravda Press PROPAGANDA!!
border joe - and many of us are saying "yes, we are better off!"
You're going to reference Clint? Are you crazy?????
Obama/Biden 2012
It has been 4 years and nothing has been done. How long could that take to recap?
It has been 4 years and nothing has been done. How long could that take to recap?
Tell us Anthony -- what planet do yo live on? Look at some REAL numbers.
Job losses per month in January 2008: 800,000
Job gains last month: 160,000
32 straight months of private sector job growth
GDP growth in 2008: negative 6%
GDP growth last year 2.9%
Dow Jones Average in January 2008: Under 8000
Dow Jones Average today: 13,000+
Record domestic oil production
GM – all time record profits
Near record corporate profits across the board
As long as it took to drive the economy into the ditch...notice allthe GNOP plans don't have a balanced budget until 2030/2040....Mythe promises to create 12million jobs in 8 years...yea...just what the CBO predicts.....
C'mon - you can't turn the Titanic around on a dime....especially with the "GNOP" and all their "HELP"...
GNOP - can't believe in facts...THEY CAN'T HANDLE TRUTH!
C'mon Mythe - show us the 1040's @! What ARE YOU hiding?!!
Are you sure you want to elect wall street Obama?
All of the Dem plans to balance to budget end up with the US in bankrupcy.
I agree we need to balance the budget. The GOP is too scared to cut military and medicare which is what is needed. Cut the military budget to $100 Billion, get rid of social security, medicare, and medicaid. Eliminate payroll taxes. Remove all tax breaks. Increases taxes on everyone to 25% across the board income tax. Eliminate Corporate income taxes, just slows down job creation of legitimate US businesses and don't get that much from it anyway.
You have to remember where the economic and revenue problems are to address them. Main revenue problem is tax breaks and progressive tax system. We lose more from that then from the top percent of earners paying 35% taxes rather then 43% taxes. Main economic problems are taxing businesses who decide to manufacture in the US. Production is the key to a strong economy. Also taxing investors that help make businesses start up, and constantly threatening investors with taking their money. Also the misallocation of resources thanks to tax incentives to buy x product.
Yep, that's the Republican way of getting elected--Say something often enough (even if it's a lie AND it often is a lie) and it will be taken for truth. That's a really, really, REALLY sad commentary on how far down the Republican Party has fallen.
News98 it should be FuxNews98....oh never mind that is oxymoron.
Romney and Ryan - it is time for the USA to lead again off of the cliff!!!
and that will be a FACT if they win ...what a nightmare!
POW Right out of the starting line up Comcast-NBC is already biased in their headlines of the Democratics Convention. Dems??? really Comcast-NBC thats very biased.
Shame on you Comcast-NBC
And thats my opinion.
All bama has to do is run on his record. HA HA HA HA
Enthusiasm gap? To quote Bill Clinton, "Everything that should be up is down! Everything that should be down is up!" Enthusiasm gap? Is there any wonder?

Most important to me, at 70, is the fact that Bush didn't get to privitize my social Security, and that medicare is intact. Vote GOP at your own peril!
kent,
like so many other self serving obama supporters you could care less about the future of the country, the debt, and our children. Just as long as you get your government checks.
You could be a poster boy for whats wrong with this nation...
You mean the government benefits Kent, PAID into all of his life?
Sorry Keith, it is people like YOU who are a stain on society!
Red,
Wrong, and I see your still showing your usual lack of class. Go on, explain to us all that it's OK to continue borrowing and spending as we blow through the 16 trillion in debt mark today.
obama has added 16 trillion in new debt.
The US is clearly on the wrong track. Try to see things as they actually are...
Source please!
PS: I don't agrue with idiots!
LOL! Math is hard. Clowns.
Were Republicans thinking of the future of the country, the debt and our children when they voted for 2 unfunded wars, unfunded Medicare Part D and unfunded super-duper tax cuts?
Once again, according to Republicans, I guess all recorded history began January 20, 2009.
They clearly were thinking of our future when they created that debt. Buts its ok - because they are fiscal conservatives. LOL
ike so many other self serving obama supporters you could care less about the future of the country, the debt, and our children.
Keith -- get off your moral high horse. I'm 66 years old. My parents generation handed the debt for WWII, the interstate highway system, all the debt for the schools, universities and hospitals they built, the space program, and countless other projects. It took most of my life --- until 1998 --- to pay that off. That's the way it works. You build for the future. It's no different than buying a home when you're 25 and financing it for 30 years. The year I was born the national debt was approximately 125% of GDP. My generation paid that debt. Today it's less than 100%. And -- you will never be able to borrow money cheaper than you can today.
One more thing Keith --- I've been paying into Social Security for over 53 years. I was self employed for 15 years so in those years, I paid double. You're damn right I'm entitled to that money. My wife paid in almost as much as I did. But she died at age 62, never saw a penny of it.
Keith --- the poster boy for whats wrong with this nation are selfish, self centered, uneducated people like you. Instead of whining about what's going on, man up, grow up and contribute.
You can tell that these tea bag folks know that the President is going to win reelection and it driving them bonkers!
Your president is a halfwit communist, he only wins if he cheats, lies or steals.
Psh, there is no such thing as entitlement programs. Its just a tax they use to spend on stuff as they have since its inception. There is no "savings account", it all gets spent on those who may not have even put 1 dime into social security.
The thing is a ponzi scheme, and if you are young you should never expect to see any of that money come back. Just like any Ponzi Scheme its going to blow up, just like how the social security rate is 10% when it was half that a couple decades ago.
Job1.....You can kiss your libtard friends in the Senate goodbye as the Senate is on it's way to become more conservative in November.
In Jan 2010 President Obama, met with republicans at their retreat in Baltimore, during that amazing event, we saw a President who could put to shame any republican who opened his mouth. Below is a video of that event, it would important to listen to the President outshine his political opponents who had designs to harm the financial futures of American citizens.
www.youtube.com/watch
Charlie-1915998, well said. I'm 60 years old and have been paying into Social Security and Medicare for over 43 years, and all of a sudden it's now the government's money?
Social Security and Medicare? WE BUILT THAT!
http://www.raconline.org/racmaps/mapfiles/education.png
This is rather polarized, but I cannot help seeing it play out in political discussions.
Of course not, there is NO room for facts in ConservatiVille!
Now, where did Keith go? I still want to see how the President is responsible for 16 trillion dollars in debt?
Ask these clowns a legitimate question and they run for the hills! lol
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Feisty, is correct 16 Trillion is all the debt, however President's obama is getting to 6 trillion all by himself. Feisty you can google it yourself. I know you will insult me and that is expected of you.
The word is argue. i know you are ignoring me, but your friends will probably answer for you.
Hey Concerned, you made another grammatical error in while attempt to criticize others.
Xabre - So what. I did not call her an idiot. That was my point. Everyone makes mistake. I even agreed with her about the 16 trillion.
Everyone know exactly what libs like you try to do to people that do not have the same ideals.
Are you stalking me? If you are, I have no problem with it.
trilliondollar - you might want to look at facts - the Senate will stay Democratic and actually there is a good chance the House will go Democratic, also.
People are tired of the obstructionists in Congress. They know it is the fault of Congress that we haven't done better than we have the last 3.75 years. Put the blame where it belongs and it's on the shoulders of the Republicans who have blocked every proposal that would have helped the economy.
Xabre - are you actually still dealing with the nutcase, Concern?
Obama/Biden 2012 and a Democratic Congress!
You probably wouldn't.
Yes, that point can be easily inferred from:
Xabre
Interesting map. No surprise about Texas and that is where the text books come from.
Hey Fiesty;
I'll answer the question for you. By his own words. How many times has he referred to his actions in creating the bail outs and stimulus that saved (not) the world? His stimulus and bailouts have put you as yet unborn grandchildren in debt to the tune of 84K. What a deal, born into debt as the behest of a clueless politician.
You will notice that as everyone else was losing their job, home, and livelihood, Mr. O managed to post a federal adjusted personal income, remember "adjusted" income of $1.7 million dollar for tax year 2011. Neat trick considering that Waaaaaay about the tax payer provided salary for the job. Mr. "hope and Change" really only hoped to change his income bracket, Mission accomplished and it only cost the American people 16 trillion in debt, what a deal.

Beware when Obama and his campaign staff tell you the millions of jobs added under their watch. They are virtually all government jobs, not real jobs that contribute to the economy. You and I pay their salaries. The unemployment rate stuck at 8.3% is a good indicator that the government job increase is simply a transfer of money from the private sector the government. No net gain, no economic growth. Failed policy.
That is wrong. There are over a half million LESS government jobs under Obama than Bush. As the President says specifically, 4.5 million new jobs have been created in the private sector alone in the past 29 months.
Having said that, your hatred of government workers, which includes teachers, police officers, contractors and firefighters, is bizarre. It was a mistake for Republican governors to lay people off during a severe recession. Reagan increased the size of government during his recession, knowing that it's better for people to work for the government than to be out of work.
If not for the layoff of state and local workers, plus GOP obstruction of Obama's jobs bill that would have created infrastructure jobs, unemployment would easily be a full percentage point lower.
"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president" --Mitch McConnell
Right - because those people dont go out and buy stuff.
Seems to me you are saying that no new millionares were made on the backs of blue collar workers so they dont count. You people are clowns.
"They are virtually all government jobs, not real jobs that contribute to the economy. "
Mike,
Let’s do a little math. Gov’t Joe gets paid $10. Uncle Sam goes to you to get that $10 to pay Gov’t Joe. Gov’t Joe goes to Walmart and buys $10 of food. You have $10 less to spend at Walmart because Uncle Sam took $10 from you to give to Gov’t Joe. The economy saw zero growth because the net gain was zero. It was simply transfer of wealth from you to Gov’t Joe. It doesn't help the economy at all.
