A Colorado TV reporter asked Obama in an interview, per USA Today: "Your party says you inherited a bad situation -- you've had three and a half years to fix it -- what grade would you give yourself so far for doing that?"
Replied Obama: "You know I would say incomplete ... but what I would say is the steps that we have taken in saving the auto industry, in making sure that college is more affordable and investing in clean energy and science and technology and research, those are all the things that we are going to need to grow over the long term."
The Obama campaign is out with another anti-Romney video focusing on “Romney’s tax loopholes.”
Here’s how AP sums up Obama’s events yesterday: “President Barack Obama insisted on Monday that the federal government can help Americans in crisis, whether they’re autoworkers fearful that their company will disappear or Gulf Coast residents picking up the pieces after the devastation of Hurricane Isaac.”
There were a lot of football metaphors from President Obama on the trail yesterday.
The Washington Post’s fact-checker takes issue with Biden’s recent claim that Bain & Co. received a bailout costing taxpayers $10 million. “At issue was a $38 million loan made to Bain by a failed bank, the Bank of New England, and the FDIC’s efforts to collect on the loan. Ultimately, the loan was reduced by $10 million but the money was made up through assessments on FDIC-member banks. As we noted: “That’s right — no taxpayer money is involved. The FDIC prides itself on not taking taxpayer funds.”
More: “We had previously said the use of the term ‘bailout’ was a stretch, worthy of a Pinocchio, but the vice president takes it to a new level by claiming Romney “cost the government and American taxpayers $10 million.” No matter how you parse it, that’s simply not correct.”

And those FDIC-member banks just forked it over? Never raising fees on their customers? Bad debts are offset by increased fees and decreased interest banks pay out. Bain just happened to stick them with a really BIG bad debt.
Looks like another Biden lie.
Just a further example of this administration's attempts to distort the truth in their desperate attempt to retain their jobs.
Not sure what Mr Obama will pull next, but this week should be loads of laughs...if you can avoid the tears of sorrow for what he's done to our country over the last four years.
Even if Biden did lie it's nothing compared to all the lies u repukes have been telling and continue to tell. Surprised y'all would even comment about a lie that someone else have told unless your upset that someone other than yourselves told it.
Incomplete huh....you mean Obama hasn't quite pushed us over the cliff yet? Give him another 12 months and we will all be deep chit.... I'd rather him just pack-up and hit the road now.
1 in 7 Americans are now on food stamps.........
1 million more Americans are now on disability under BO.........
the fastest growing component of federal spending is means tested welfare programs rather than SS or Medicare.........
the feds now operate 69 means tested welfare programs including 2 child care and 8 cash assistance programs..............
welfare spending under BO during his 1st 2 years is 2.5 times greater than any previous increase in federal welfare spending.........
in 2011, BO spent $694.3 billion on welfare spending ( the states spend 250 billion more)................
Obama's welfare spending is PERMANENT........and his budgets project 10.3 trillion spent on welfare over 10 years.........
each taxpaying household will have to pay 100,000 over 10 years to support BO's welfare plan................
in 2010...........taxpaying households paid $638/month in welfare costs......
the clincher..........under BO, more people are living in poverty in the US than in 50 years...........
Obama.................the welfare KING! ( BO creating more and more poverty each and every day)
Mr Incomplete...has to go!
Looks like all you republicans have are the liar Limbaugh lying Fox talking points. You guys need to get out of the 20th century and join the rest of the world in the 21st century. The big welfare scam in the 21st century is corporate welfare.
Hey, let's get it straight. It's Biden who is still in the 20th century.
I bet you if the Bush administration and the GOP did not tank the economy many of these people will have their jobs and be self sufficient. I wonder this opposition moronic arguments that what took the GOP 8 years to destroy will magically be cured by our Potus in 36 months. Guess how long it took the terrorists to destroy the world trade center, just hours and guess how long it will take to rebuild it, years. Talk about a country economy systematically destroyed over a period of 8 years and they have something to say about how it will be remedied. It means the Goppers are like little kids whose sense of reality is like kids flipping pages of a coloring book of plants and animals thinking that merely putting crayon to it makes them a genius in artistic drawing.
And I bet you that if the democrat controlled congress hadn't set off the recession with poor management of Fannie and Freddy that was then later attributed to Bush, President Obama would not have been elected.
to most of you morons incomplete meant failing, but for obama it means there is still work to do to finish with a grade A.
if you know not what you speak, you shouldnt speak at all!
And I am sure you have this on good faith and of first hand knowledge... or are you leftys now claiming that you and only you clearly know even better than BO himself what his words do and do not mean? Are you aware that 63% of the voting public now thinks that the country is moving in the wrong direction.....In case math is not your best subject...( I mean you could have gotten an incomplete on your score card, and assumed you were going to get an A at the end) that is a big....dare I say 2/3rds majority that completely disagree with the direction that BO had pointed our country, and yet you tout not speaking if we know not of what we speak...... Really, grasping at straws much?
kr - he hasn't started working in almost 4 years. you think he will start now? he is too busy fighting for his job and making idiots like you believe he knows what he is doing and talking about.
JustanotherVeteran, 63% of the voting public ALWAYS thinks that the country is moving in the wrong direction.
that proves nothing ;)
Besides, no one usually likes it when change gets started. most of us are rather set in our ways and dislike change...
The media pundits are all a twitter over President Obama telling the truth - we aren't out of the woods yet - they can believe a politician spoke honestly for a change - must be a "gaffe!"
The American people aren't as stupid as our esteemed political media, that's for sure. We kind of like being told the truth!
In fact, government documents on the bailout obtained by Rolling Stoneshow that the legend crafted by Romney is basically a lie. The federal records, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, reveal that Romney's initial rescue attempt at Bain & Company was actually a disaster – leaving the firm so financially strapped that it had "no value as a going concern." Even worse, the federal bailout ultimately engineered by Romney screwed the FDIC – the bank insurance system backed by taxpayers – out of at least $10 million. And in an added insult, Romney rewarded top executives at Bain with hefty bonuses at the very moment that he was demanding his handout from the feds.
As detailed in the above piece, Romney was able to obtain funds through the FDIC. It is an error to indicate that FDIC is "tax payer money" because it is not. What the piece does get right is the fact that without the FDIC's help (bailout) Bain would have been in big trouble. And no, there was nothing illegal about the practice but some might question the policy of gaming the system to gain personal profit.
Was Biden accurate? No. Does that make him a liar? From my perspective, he was quoting from an article that was incorrect.
And FYI....KR2875... is dead on correct. One might receive and I for incomplete and, once a paper is turned in or a make up exam is taken the grade is entered on the permanent record.....and the grade could be an "F" or could be an "A". So Obama was just being honest about it and acknowledging that there is still a lot of work to be done before a grade can be determined.
Geez! With all the nit-picking and parsing of every word in every statement made by members of either party is it any wonder that it took only a couple of thousand pages to eliminate every possible interpretation (or misinterpretation) of the ACA?
Government insured pensions and loans cost the taxpayers heavily every time Bain looted the assets of a business. Bain walked away with millions of dollars that the Federal Treasury had to replenish. The government also manages and guarantees the F.D.I.C., and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. bails out customers of failed banks. Employees and investors in Bain bore the loss of investments, employment, health insurance, pensions, and other benefits and allowances. That's a fact, Jack.
Affinity - How about some proof of your assertion? It is obvious you do not know what you are talking about. If you do not understand business, I'll give you a simple explanation. Investor(s) take risk on investing on a business. A better managed business with sharp personnel has a better chance of succeeding than an average business. Investors risk their money with investment capitalist that have a high rate of success. These investors know they are taking risk but because the investment company has a high rate of success, they invest. If you do not understand this simple explanation, I suggest you keep your ignorant opinion to yourself since you seem to not understand the concept of business and how it operates.
Obama set out his criterion for failure when he described his plans for the economy: “If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one term proposition." You have to accept then that Obama is admitting failure by his own criterion.
Kannin.....
Obama is correct. You and others on the right are proposing a single term for Obama based on the argument that he has not been able to move the economy. You will base this argument on the unemployment figures and to many there will be some validity to your argument.
What you will not argue as part of your proposition to make Obama a one term president is the fact that private sector jobs are increasing as public sector jobs are diminishing (as one might expect if you "starve the beast"). You will not argue that Obama's success in creating jobs has been overwhelmingly successful when compared to the Bush 8 year term. You will not mention the obstructionist tactics brought on by the Tea Party that have been documented as being the cause of a credit downgrade. These and other omissions provide the fuel to the augment that the executive branch is not able to move potential into action without the willingness of the other branches of government to negociate as they all act together and in good faith to devise a workable plan.
You would be mistaken to assume that the public's dissatisfaction with the workings of government is solely a statement about the President. The President is not government. And while you may make a proposal to the electorate, it will not necessarily be accepted.
Campdog - Excellent post. There is food for thought there. I got sucked into the "sound bite argument" mode by the culture of Newsvine. Nevertheless, during the past 3 1/2 years I have seen Obama pressing for a vision of America that I do not share, and simply making dumb mistakes that a competent President should have been able to avoid.
I will think about what you have posted.
campdog - obama has nothing to do with private sector jobs. these businesses are run by small companies. the companies he bailed out have yet to complete repaying their loan. his stimulus was a total waste. and he has the nerve to claim credit for jobs he had nothing to do with? only fanatics like you would believe something that contradicts facts and figures.
if obama couldn't give himself a passing grade, how can he be trusted with another 4 years? as usual, what he offers is empty rhetoric.
how can he be trusted? How about because he was being honest with you. Rupublicans declared Obama the enemy from day one and became the party of NO! The GOP tea party failed to vote for plenty of bills that would help america. (American Jobs Act for one example) So are you going to vote out the GOP as well as obama. The GOP are obstructionists out to keep the country from getting better under Obama.s watch. 140 fillibusters in one year and more to come this year.
Vote out the obstructionist GOP this year and give obama a real chance!
Then we'll see if you are right. But only then...
