RNC chairman: Romney would win if election were today

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mitt Romney would be elected president if the election were held today, the Republican National Committee's chairman boldly predicted Monday.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus predicted a Romney victory based on projected wins in several swing states (polls of which are less definitively optimistic for Romney).

"I feel real good that if the election was held today, we’d be winning today. If the election is tied, we’re going to win the election," Priebus said during a press conference today kicking off the GOP’s "rapid response" effort during the Democratic National Convention.

"Independents are not going to suddenly have an epiphany," Priebus continued, "and decide that everything is great."

Pressed by a reporter on which states Romney would win if the election were held today, Priebus doubled down.

"For one, I think we win Wisconsin today," Priebus said of his home state, adding: "I think we win Florida today. I think we win Virginia. I think that we win Iowa."

Priebus said Romney would be close in Ohio, a state he called a "toss-up."

Yet demonstrating the GOP’s not-so easy electoral map in November, Romney winning Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa would still leave him short of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, especially if Romney doesn’t carry Ohio.

The GOP will hold press conferences several times daily this week, inside a television studio nestled in the basement of Charlotte’s NASCAR museum.

"Today, the thrill and pixie dust of Barack Obama’s presidency is gone. Americans feel no hope, and have seen a change for the worst," Priebus told reporters. "Democrats are dispirited.  Enthusiasm is clearly on the Republican side."

Priebus was joined today by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). Other officials slated to participate in the GOP effort here include Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

      More Obama accomplishments:

      - Wage class warfare of rich Americans against poorer Americans by falsely implying that Warren Buffet's Federal income tax rate is typical of those Americans earning over $100,000 a year. Check.

      - Ignore the pending financial meltdown of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in order to not alienate a few voters in November. Check.

      - Fail to write the regulations and guidelines needed to implement legislation that was passed in 2008 that cracked down on food stamp fraud.

      - Fail to come up with a reorganization plan or termination plan for the dysfunctional and expensive Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA entities. Check.

      - Approve the first ever, government sanctioned assassination of an American citizen without due process and institute an official government committee to review and recommend subsequent assassinations of Americans without due process.

I may be wrong but I do not remember Carter coming anywhere close to this number of failures during his entire four years as President. I do not think he set anywhere near the number of records that the Obama administration has set as far as the weakest economic recovery ever, the most failed economic programs, the most Americans ever on food stamps, etc. I do not think Carter had nearly as many firsts as Obama such as the first government sanctioned American citizen assassination, the first ever U.S. credit downgrade, the first ever TRILLION dollar annual government deficit, etc. I do not think Carter had nearly as much disdain for individual Constitutional rights, Constitutional tenets. or the rule of law.

NOBAMA2012..... At $5 TRILLION Dollar$ added to the debt in the last 3.5 years, WE CAN'T AFFORD IT!

Reince Priebus - Isn't that a name of a social disease?

          Reply#836 - Tue Sep 4, 2012 5:20 PM EDT

Priebus' critical thinking skills are in the "toilet". People won't re-elect Obama because the economy is presently great, as Reince illogically argues. They'll re-elect Obama because the economy is presently improved now in comparison to what it was, as GOP leadership left it in 2008.....Hello ???? Is anybody home ???

Otherwise, a vote against Obama would usher in GOP leadership with it's record of inferior economic performance, like 2008, in comparison to now after 4 years of Obama......

It isn't rocket science, Reince. Unless you're clueless.....like Clint at the GOP Convention with an illogical empty chair political argument providing clues about his brain functioning !!!

Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital

By Matt Taibbi, August 29, 2012 7:00 AM ET

A man makes a $250 million fortune loading up companies with debt and then extracting million-dollar fees from those same companies, in exchange for the generous service of telling them who needs to be fired in order to finance the debt payments he saddled them with in the first place. That same man then runs for president riding an image of children roasting on flames of debt, choosing as his running mate perhaps the only politician in America more pompous and self-righteous on the subject of the evils of borrowed money than the candidate himself. If Romney pulls off this whopper, you'll have to tip your hat to him: No one in history has ever successfully run for president riding this big of a lie.

            ...just yet another lie.

Add to that that troop casualties in Afghanistan are now higher under Obama's 4 year term than under Bush's 8 year term.

Mitt cannot start a Presidency based on lies. He said he has a "Blind Trust" he calls a "Ruse:. He has asked us to blindly trust him. How can we the people trust him? He is such a LIAR. We trusted President Bush when he told us they had found WMD's in Iraq. what a hoax. We want a president for all people and Romney does not strike me as a person that can be for all people when he and his wife look down us Peons calling us "You people." Who the hell she thinks she is. As one cancer survivor to another we show more empathy towards others than that. I thank God for Obamacares and Romney wants to repeal it and replace it with what? AIR. Gvie me a break Preibus. Romney is a joke running around on his jet ski. Are you tired already Willard. Is this the patern that we are going to see IF you should steal the White house. Most of don't have a bicycle to ride further more a jet ski. Romney thibnks Government can only work for companies not for people. The government bail out Bain and it was perfectly fine and Willard went on to put big bonuses in his pocket you are the problem Willard. Where are your TAXES?

What proof have we that Wallstreet and Detroit were
in danger of collapse, in 2009? Merely the word of
              beggars.

Upon the first breath of 2009, from board room to
board room, from bank to mortgage house to credit
company to dealership, the murmurs were spoke that
the Most Junior of Senators, newly promoted, with
the Most Junior of Auditors and Accountants, newly
appointed, were afoot in Washington, with soft hands
at the helm and a soft touch on the purse. All, so
easily moved by a quavering voice, a sad song of woe
and a teary eye, that any CEO so daring, could open
the hand on the purse and be lent moneys by the
buckets full. The word of the fools in the House so
White spread far and wide until the rush on the
              treasury, became a stampede.

Now, to defend their treachery, the Keepers of the
Loose Purse parade before us as if heroes who stared
down the wolf at the door, rather than rubes who
fell for the carney at the vault. And where of the
moneys they so readily lent? So desperate were the
beggars of Wallstreet and Detroit that the first
billions paid were not to the wolves at the door,
nor the creditor at the window, but to the manager
on the bonus, and the CEO on the yacht. Our money by
the trillions, cast upon the wind, to no account,
save those of braggerts, eager for another hand in
              the till.

Why would the wolves of Wallstreet and Detroit
defend the fools in the Whitehouse? If you had a
Soft Touch in the Oval Office, wouldn't you want him
              re-elected?

And of the Most Junior Senator and his most Junior
Accountants, who trumpet themselves the heroes of
Wallstreet and Detroit? They parade before us,
wearing their deceit like medals won on an actual
field of battle! They wave their ignorance like
ribbons before an adoring throng of fools.

Still, I got to give credit where credit is due.
Democrats, and none better than Barack Obama, sell
sh!t for chocolate better than anyone alive. They
can wrap it like candy, but I wouldn't touch it,
and I damn sure wouldn't eat it.
