RNC chairman: Romney would win if election were today

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mitt Romney would be elected president if the election were held today, the Republican National Committee's chairman boldly predicted Monday.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus predicted a Romney victory based on projected wins in several swing states (polls of which are less definitively optimistic for Romney).

"I feel real good that if the election was held today, we’d be winning today. If the election is tied, we’re going to win the election," Priebus said during a press conference today kicking off the GOP’s "rapid response" effort during the Democratic National Convention.

"Independents are not going to suddenly have an epiphany," Priebus continued, "and decide that everything is great."

Pressed by a reporter on which states Romney would win if the election were held today, Priebus doubled down.

"For one, I think we win Wisconsin today," Priebus said of his home state, adding: "I think we win Florida today. I think we win Virginia. I think that we win Iowa."

Priebus said Romney would be close in Ohio, a state he called a "toss-up."

Yet demonstrating the GOP’s not-so easy electoral map in November, Romney winning Wisconsin, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa would still leave him short of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, especially if Romney doesn’t carry Ohio.

The GOP will hold press conferences several times daily this week, inside a television studio nestled in the basement of Charlotte’s NASCAR museum.

"Today, the thrill and pixie dust of Barack Obama’s presidency is gone. Americans feel no hope, and have seen a change for the worst," Priebus told reporters. "Democrats are dispirited.  Enthusiasm is clearly on the Republican side."

Priebus was joined today by Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT). Other officials slated to participate in the GOP effort here include Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

Romney couldn't beat McCain in 2008 what makes this fool think he could beat his way out of a wet paper bag?

Romney wouldn't win today and he won't win in November. Who the hell in their right mind would want to go back to the same trickle down (or was that being pissed on) of Jr. Bush.

Delusional as their phantom economic and international policies.

Apparently the RNC head is just as mired in fantasy as the people who formulate attacks for the Republicans. If the election were held today, Obama would win an indisputable victory, though not by anything approaching a landslide.

Mitt Romney would be elected president if the election were held today, the Republican National Committee's chairman boldly predicted Monday

Of course, immediately after the Republican convention bounce, and before the Democratic convention, and with the Republican voter suppression efforts still in place - but the election isn't being held today.

Before the election in November, the Democrats will have their convention, and most if not all of the Republican voter suppression efforts will be thrown out by the courts, and both Romney and Ryan will have plenty of time to produce more of the grand gaffes that they're known for.

We're looking at another "Truman vs. Dewey" election, where some predictions will turn out wrong. Obama is the Truman, and Romney is a Dewey (rich, out of touch with the working class).

Priebus must be sniffing Ajax... Either that or he can't read a Electoral map.. Romney is not winning Wisconsin or Virginia, or Pennsylvania or Ohio, so Romney ain't winning "jack"...

LMAO! Romney win if election held today? LMFAO! This person is delusional. Today showed after the Republican convention Romney had one of the lowest marks in HISTORY!

He would have zero chance at winning an election Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, Next year!

No one likes the guy. He is unlikable. Which means he is not winnable.

Rinse Penis is the silliest chairman the GOTP has ever had. He is clearly a moron. He seems to live in his own world, devoid of facts. If the election was held today, Mitt Rmoney, the pathological liar and tax-cheat who is yet to come clean with the American people by releasing 15+ years worth of tax returns, will lose in a landslide.

Mr. Rinse Penis, this is for you on behalf of Nate Silver:

Priebus can't add correctly and the GOP wants to cut the Education budget so they can give tax cuts to the 1 percenters. Go figure.

I hate to break it to you, but Independents, are going to vote for Romney.

America knows it's the Democrat controlled House (for 2 years) and the Democrat controlled Senate (for 4 years) that has failed our nation. it is the Democrat leaders who own this crappy economy.

Americans, know that it's the Democrats who have done NOTHING to help America get back to work.

Republicans are enthusiastic, supportive and focused.

    Bye bye Barry!

We GOD Loving, CONSTITUTION loving, FAMILIY loving, and MIDDLE-CLASS loving DEMOCRATS WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER.

COLORADO, LOL you are conservative GOP through and through, and if you do claim to be a independent, it's because you like the name, you like to be able to say "I'm a independent voter!" even though you've always voted the straight GOP ticket for as long as you've been voting.

Do you really think that if America turned its clocks back 60 years, the rest of the world would follow? Sheesh.

I have been an Independent since 92. My wife is and independent. I wouldnt vote for the tax dodging draft dodger for any political office. The residents of Mass. knew they made a mistake and that was when the tax evader was pro choice, pro gay marriage and created Romney care. He would have to start paying taxes before I would vote for him. Same goes for my wife.

Of course, this prediction is BS. Americans saw Romney and, as expected, no spark. But what they could mean is the fix is in with disenfranchising voters and Republican Governors manipulating the vote. The Republicans also have tons of questionable money to spend on the ground.

So, we should take their words seriously and fight back with increasing our presence on the ground and increase Obama's advantage in the close races to erase the possibility of voter manipulation. Republicans don't care now they win. Homesty and integrity are foreign concepts to them.

Obama sucks and if the election were held TODAY he would most likely have a hell of a time getting reelected. Dems and Libs love to live in the land of La-La; that way they can avoid actually facing reality. So, when is Billy Bloated Nose going to flap his gums? I guess he will have to say nice things about Odumbo as the obama goons hold his wife's career hostage; LMAO.

Some big-name Democrats will be skipping Charlotte and I wonder why ? Any Democrats know why or care?

We can be sure that the commie democrats won't be skirting the truth this convention. They will be giving it a very wide berth.

the republican party is the party of lies and fantasy. they won't come around to reality until they lose an election bigtime. they need to lose the senate house and white house. maybe then they will realize that they are out of touch with the voters. the problem is that they can't think for themselves and are letting the koch brothers buy them off and do their thinking for them.

If I were Priebus, I would make sure that I got my money upfront because after November, he will be summarily dismissed as chair of the RNC...not sure what he will do after that because he will not be able to hold his own --policy wise--at the National Review, Weekly Standard, Heritage Foundation, WSJ opinion pages, Washington Examiner, Olin Foundation, Fox News, heck he may well be unemployed...he is not an effective spokesperson..

It's simple logic that owners and workers can't survive without the equal success of both. The attempt to separate these two into classes and then offer one more than the other? For every owner there may be 1-100,000 workers. Nah, they don't wanna pee off the little guy, that would spell doom.

And if you promise them the future or give it to 'em asap, they'll usually take theirs upfront. Good luck.

Well, maybe R-Money would win if the election were today, and only Republicans KNEW the election were today...

Voter suppression is your only hope, garbage.
