“New York’s attorney general is investigating whether executives at Bain Capital, the private equity firm founded by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, improperly avoided paying $200 million in federal income taxes, according to a report by The New York Times,” per the Boston Globe. “More than a dozen firms are under investigation by the attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman, who has subpoenaed documents that would show whether some fund management fees were converted to fund investments. Profits on investments are taxed at a much lower rate than management fees, which count as earned income.”
The Wall Street Journal editorial page, via Political Wire: "The immediate media consensus, especially on the political right, seems to be that Mitt Romney 'did what he had to do' in his GOP convention speech Thursday. He repaired an image battered by Obama attack ads, showed he appreciates women, defended Bain Capital and criticized President Obama more in sorrow than in anger. On to the White House! Well, maybe. Mr. Romney's speech did hit all of those essential points, but the one thing it didn't do constitutes a major political gamble. Neither he nor the entire GOP convention made a case for his economic policy agenda. He and Paul Ryan promised to help the middle class, but they never explained other than in passing how they would do it.”
About 30 million tuned into Romney’s speech, down from 39 million who watched McCain’s four years ago, per Nielsen (via Political Wire).
The Romney campaign put out a 2:34 wrap video of its convention.
Paul Ryan’s in trouble with the fact again – this time over claiming that he ran a sub-three-hour marathon. “Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something,” he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. That drew skepticism from the running community and Ryan had to admit that was false. He said in a statement, per the New York Times: “The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin — who ran Boston last year — reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight.”

Well, well, well. More than a dozen firms, including Bain Capital, under investigation by Schneiderman; good for him. No wonder Mr. Mitt Romney refuses to release his tax returns. The "ammunition" Mrs. Romney spoke about could well be Bain Capital; if Bain evaded taxes, it is highly likely Mitt did as well.
This is gonna get good....er, I mean bad for Willard!
in your manner of reasoning if someone in your family does drugs then you are also guilty. Foolish ! Romney's tax returns have been vetted by the IRS and there wasn't a problem. In the corporate world taxes are handled by the accounting departments and CPA s. I have run a couple of corporations and had to basically trust the accountants as I did not have full knowledge of the tax laws. That was the reason I paid them. If they made a mistake I paid the penalty and they lost their jobs. Other than that I had really no involvement in the filings.
no doubt you're right Jody. Those who have nothing to hide, dont hide anything. Romney is just another con man trying to con the American people. I watch his body lanquage when he speaks and I think "he is not telling me the truth". He twists the facts to meet his agenda of the moment. His positions on things that matter change with who he is talking to. Bain capital is not in business to help people. They are in business to extract money from those around them. Romney did an excellent job of doing so, then hid that money in offshore accounts, and this is who the GOP wants to put in office? Romney and Ryan can go to ****.
Obama 2012
Please investigate:
Don't let these Vultures get away with murder - outsourcing and killing jobs, and evading taxes, killing social programs that need every cent of taxes.
Tax evasion...huh...no wonder social security and medicare are out of money....I can't believe those guilty actually use the crisis to argue for 'End Medicare as we know it.'
If Mitt and other fellow vultures pay their taxes, we would never have these crises of Medicare and social security.
Vageorge, if there is no problem with Romney's taxes, then why doesn't he release them, as other candidates, including his own father, have done? His dad released 12 years of returns when he ran for president. Because Romney refuses to release even one full year (part of 2011 is missing), it looks like he's hiding something. Even conservatives are calling for him to release them. If he has nothing to hide, it's an unnecessary distraction to his campaign. The possible tax issues with Bain just add to this narrative. And Romney was retained as CEO, drawing a salary, until 2002, another fact he tried to hide.
The driver of the 'get away' vehicle used by bank robbers is equally charged....although they did not actually enter the bank.
Certainly can't use the 'I didn't know what they were going to do' line of defense.....they said 'we're going in to withdraw money'!
Reply to Wilcox.....It is evident that you are not up to par on your research. Romney has shown his tax returns. 10 years worth in 2008. He has produced all required now under election laws. He will not show all now because the obama gang would just question every line thus distracting the public from the issues of obama's failed administration. Why is it you refuse to play on an even field and demand that obama unseal his records? Are you a paid obama troll or one of his worshipers? obama has failed and as far your comment that Romney can go to h— — — I doubt he will but if he did he would probably meet obama's boss there
Romney showed his tax returns to McCain in 2008...then McCain picked someone else. But that hardly constitutes a full vetting by the American public.
Where did you get this lie vageorge? It's amazing just how easy it is for you republicans tell a lie.
It's really simply Mo. I have the ability to do research and not just spew ignorant white house rhetoric. Maybe if you were better educated you wouldn't fall for all the Democrat lies and be able to sort out the truth from the chafe. obama does not have that ability and relies on the public's belief that he will tell the truth. Well he never has
vageorge
You did research to spout this nonsense? Care to share a link so we can be "as informed" as you?
lol
I did the research however it is apparent that you do not understand or possess the ability of researching. You do appear to be one that just reads the media coverage....Not very smart! The first sign of a fool is commenting without knowledge. Try reading or ask your mommy next time. My source of information is the voting records, The videos and tapes of speeches and the general opinions of many in Congress. I do not rely on the open media. Here is an interesting truth ..Any news story coming out of the white house must be approved by the obama administration before it is released
Romney is a crook through and through. Always has been and always will be. Don't need to see his returns. Simple common everyday math.
What a pathetic convention republicans held. Worst and phoniest in the history of the country. Hands down.
The dem convention will be worth watching at least.
You're kidding vageorge? This is not research, this is listening to the 9% approval do nothing lying republican congress. What you're really trying to say without actually saying it is, your research is watching Fox (aka republican propaganda machine).
Maybe this is why Romney won't release a complete tax report... Then he would be investigated the more would be exposed... only problem is, this won't be done in time before the election...
He is one greedy bastard that lives up to his reputation...
You know what really pisses me off?
I as responsible American citizen have done my legal and financial obligation to my country by filing paying my taxes on time. Now Romney has the gall to file an extension for 2011,its not like he is doing them himself having to fill out hundreds of pages for tax loopholes and write offs, we don’t even know if he did his 2009 or 2008 taxes there not listed on his web site as being done. Why is it that Rmoney is not even responsible enough to file his taxes on time? A person with this
irresponsible nature should not be running our country. Doing your taxes on time is the most basic responsibility of every American.
From Mitts web site:
In addition, Gov. Romney has released numerous financial disclosures since 2002, as required by law – which have also been posted on this site. There are 3 federal Public Financial Disclosures (from 2007, 2011, and 2012), and 6 Massachusetts Statements of Financial Interests (from 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007).
Financial Disclosures ??? Nothing about him paying his taxes, but no financial disclosure
from 2008 and 2009. What happened in 2008 and 2009? Are these the years he
applied for amnesty because he committed fraud or did not pay any taxes? I’ll
guess the American public will never get full disclosure from Mitt.
Not responsible enough to file taxes on time , not responsible enough to be President.
Obama/Biden 2012
vageorge - you need to go back and do ACTUAL research. While running for President, Romney has yet to release even 1 full year of taxes! McCain saw 8 years but no one else did and McCain's can't verify anything. Plus, after seeing Mitt's returns, McCain selected Palin!
You truly need to know more about what you are saying before you post on this site because people here actually know facts!
Obama/Biden 2012
It appears not only are Republican politicians incapable of telling the truth .. the problem has extended to their supporters.
This article is missing two simple facts. What are the dates of the investigation and was Romney working their at the time? All the article says "Bain Capital, the private equity firm founded by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney" Says nothing if he was their at the time.
But wait, what's this you say? That devout 'Ol Mitt's been light on paying his fair share to the church too?
Can't wait for the Mormon Elders to get hold of this. They'll kick Mitt and family out of the Tabernacle unless Mitt releases ALL his tax returns and pays up. Bet they're planning renovations already.
False Christians. Every one of them.
What a journalistic piece of garbage. Please show where Romney has anything to do with this investigation. I worked at a restaurant that went out of business after I stopped working there because of tax fraud. They owed over $300k in back taxes. Does that mean I am going to go to jail?!
First paragraph of this article-Bain investigation (no direct link to Romney).
Second paragraph of this article-Opinion section on Romney at the campaign.
Third paragraph of this article-Ryan's earth shattering "lie" about his marathon time.
Where is the cohesiveness and relevance of this article in relation to the title?!! I guess because it is an opinionated and far left slanted hit piece, it doesn't have to have a point other than to be rotten red meat for the ravenous far left.
I'm sure the timing has nothing to do with the election ...
The timing is upcoming Tax season. This is a normal time for investigations of corporate misdealings. Those investigated are those flagged by IRS auditors.
Of course, you have nothing to worry about, Mr. Romney is very open with his tax records. Oh wait! I guess he isn't. Hmmmm! Wonder what he is hiding?
First thing against him is he's a pathological liar,then he's a Republican, then he's just plain stup[id.
All these years he has campaigned and nobody likes him. Hell he could have bought an election by now if he wasn't such an as,shole. Now all those dumb bastards that think they are better than everybody else have to try and buy it

Georgie boy, you win the "talks a lot and says nothing but pompus sounding tripe" prize today. Screeminglib asked you for your source of information relative to your statement that Romney has disclosed 10 years of tax records. The best you can come up with is:
My source of information is the voting records, The videos and tapes of speeches and the general opinions of many in Congress.
Just where in those votong records, speeches and Congressional opinions are the 10 tax records discussed?
PS - Try reading or ask your mommy next time
Juvenile, very juvenile response, gives one the impression that it was said by by one who is very self-possesed and arrogant.
OK now, just where can we read about when and where Romney disclosed his 10 years of tax returns, show us how smart you are in gleening such information thru your mastery of research.
ChefEric13
What a journalistic piece of garbage. Please show where Romney has anything to do with this investigation. I worked at a restaurant that went out of business after I stopped working there because of tax fraud. They owed over $300k in back taxes. Does that mean I am going to go to jail?!

Were you owner or the head manager of the restaurant? Makes a big difference.
after seeing Mitt's returns, McCain selected Palin!
==============================
When you think about it, what could be a more painfully humiliating insult, to lose out to Palin, the future Granny Clampett, you betcha!
I like the fact that Bain isn't being singled out, but of a group of companies being investigated. Sock it to 'em!
This is probably the tip of the iceberg. Read Matt Tabibbi's article about Bain Capital in September 12th's edition of Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone - the empirical news magazine of the western world. HA!
jeigh - if you can't attack the message, attack the messenger. Typical.
Tax EVASION is one of those thing for which there is NO statute of limitations. All tax returns are signed by a company CEO, President, or the sole shareholder. Since Myth Robme was all of that for many years, he is responsible for the company's actions.
Assuming there are enough people in the US who would vote for a Republican, would Romney be the first person under indictment to be inaugurated as President ?
reply to drip ......your comment is really foolish ! The CEO is the one held responsible however ususually they do not have the knowledge to have prepared the returns. That is what the CPA s are paid to do and they make mistakes at times also. Criminal charges only occur if the CEO knowingly directs the preparation of false returns.
How many whether Democrat or Republican have had to pay the IRS after an audit? Many have I know I have and there was no intent involved.
Now why does obama refuse to reveal any of his history yet demands that Romney show all?
Hey, Rolling Stone brought down a general...good investigative reporting is good regardless of the publication. And this one happens to reach a large, young audience.
There are actually two articles worth reading, but if you can't get around the liberal spin, check out this link from Business Insider:
http://www.businessinsider.com/matt-taibbi-mitt-romney-bain-rolling-stone-2012-8
Rolling Stones is just another unethical rag
vageorge: so, you are saying that as CEO, President, Founder and sole shareholder, Myth Robme would not be responsible for the tax returns he signs and swears to under penalties of perjury ? (I assume as CEO/President he would sign, although the VP/Treasurer or someone else might sign)
None-the-less, I find it extremely difficult to believe that a person who has manipulated his personal finances so that he pays less than 15% federal income tax on millions of dollars of income would not be aware of the finances of the company he founded and controlled for years, the same company from which his personal wealth was (and still is) mainly funded.
The lies continue. Only when you lie on your tax returns, they call it tax evasion.
Do you know the difference between tax avoidance and tax evasion ?
Tax avoidance gets you a 15-20% tax rate.
Tax evasion will get you 15-20 years.
Vageorge:
Care to explain what took down the CEO and head of Enron??? The claim that others were responsible for tax records and other financial records, it is not my fault. What happened to Kenneth Lay...he was indicted.
vageorge - President Obama has shown more of his history than any other President. No other President has been asked for or showed their birth certificate. However, every Presidential candidate in modern history has released at least 5 years of tax returns. Mitt's father released 12 years.
Obama/Biden 2012
Ha ha, it's ok, play loose and fast with the truth. I'm sure the Rom-Ry administration would honor veracity just as much.
Of course they're under investigation! It's election time and the dems are losing. That's what unethical DA's do at a time like this. I got news for the S*B...everyone who pays taxes avoids paying more than they are required to! Avoiding tax is not illegal.
Dems are losing what? Look at realclearpolitics . com and their "no toss up electoral map". If the election was today:
Obama 332
Romney 206
Yes it is illegal,,,, it's called tax invasion..........
Jeigh.
That's a funny response. Nice try. Keep trying.
Is tax evasion another tenet for Mormons as is lying. And if he is evading paying his fair share then the Mormon Church is probably being short changed too. Based on the numbers we know about that could be a considerable sum he should have tithed.
I think that the LDS church and Mitt are both very adept at miking the system through tax avoidance. Through secrecy, they have both found many ways to disguise their financial dealings. Wealthy corporate interests, the LDS, and Mitt Romney, along with his squeaky, clean family are a fit made in heaven for the greedy GOP engine that thrives on the exploitation of the working middle class.
I believe similar investigations went on with Enron too. Care to speculate what the results were of that investigation....Kenneth Lay indicted as head and CEO of Enron. If I was Romney, I would be worried about all this.
No Tony Lujan, a 'tax invasion' is what happens when monies that should have been paid in taxes, instead, ends up in the Cayman Islands and Swiss Bank Accounts.
Schneiderman is nobody to screw with...if there's anything inappropriate, he will find it.
I wonder how long it will take to get those documents..or will they "pleade the 5th"...
People "plead" the 5th.
"Corporations are people, my friend"
~~~Mitt Romney~~~
Corporations are people. Just ask Mitt.
I'll bet Queen Annie is just furious that "those people" are causing trouble by looking into Bain! After all, it's Romney's turn!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
If 'corporations are people' do they file 'individual income tax returns?' Do they claim one deduction, standard deductions or more deductions than all American taxpaying families combined?
Everybody who reads this article in all probability AVOIDS taxes (think back to Obama supporters like Tom Daschle and several members of the Obama administration as well as General Electric 15 billion in profit -- NO TAXES).
A tax problem is newsworthy when a person or company EVADES taxes so what is the point of this article other than the usual media smear.
The anonymous author of this garbage article needs to get off his/her lazy butt and dig up or make up a story worth reading ... IF there is even a story at ll.
Dunno. We'll see.
Sure, why would we care about $200MM in possible tax evasion through playing very loosely with tax laws. I wish I could convert all my income into stock so I could be taxed at 13% like Romney (I know capital gains rate is 15% so no need to tell me right wing loons). Oh that is right, I don't have an investment income of $25MM a year so I need my $125K in cash.
Rich get richer.
Everyone who reads this article tries to pay as little in taxes as possible, taking advantage of LEGAL deductions. The problem, according to the article, is that the income may have been misclassified, leading to illegal tax savings. Romney is not just anybody--he is running for president of the United States. He is asking for our trust. He has told us that he has paid what he owes in taxes (though he has shown us very little evidence of that). The rest of us average joes pay a higher percentage on what we earn than he does (according to the one return he has bothered to show us), which is irksome, but if he also used illegal methods to avoid paying what he owes (in his personal life and/or in his company), then we deserve to know about it.
I, for one, am looking forward to this week's convention like a breath of fresh air. I also can't wait for the debates. I want to hear Romney try to dodge questions about his record at Bain, as governor, as head of the Olympics, etc. I want to hear him try to answer--specifically--about his plans for economy, his foreign policy (he completely avoided this during is nomination speech), health care (also avoided), etc. He is the king of avoiding any specific answer on anything. HE is the empty seat in the room.
That's empty chair Bethie.
Rod, New York Times, check source in article.
Silly me,
I thought he said "Romney was the room with the empty seats!"
I'd get my hearing aids fixed but I can't take a deduction for it and haven't been able to find a good audiologist in the Caymans.
NBC and other media sources should show some decency in their reporting. Romney left Bain years ago and was not the only honcho while he was there. This would be like you were at a bank and it was robbed a year later. Why would you be guilty? Romney's tax returns have been vetted by the IRS and nothing was out of order. Now if the NBC reporters want to support obama let them vote in November but should only report the facts as there are many that still trust the media to be truthful. It is a pity that that isn't true. The media now lies,twists, and manipulates the truth as bad as obama
So you believe in Santa and Unicorns as well?
Well good times..... Have you had your morning cocktails? Your comment indicates that possibly you have. Try to explain just what Santa has to do with my comment.
Romney revealed his tax returns in 2008. The IRS has been over them with the finest of combs. Romney is smart enough not to show them now because it would give the obama gang something to pick apart and question every line thus distracting the public from the issues of his failed administration. If obama wants everything on the table let him reveal his records. He could not survive that as he is a fraud
Vageorge, you're still repeating that same lie. How do you know "The IRS has been over them with the finest of combs"? Another republican lie you keep repeating. Do you have any morals at all?
In fact I do possess morals. I do not lie in any way. I have the knowledge that the IRS has vetted Romney's tax returns as a result of association with many in DC. Unlike the Democrat rhetoric that you spew I do my research. One point I would like to make is that I am not a Republican but I do support Romney in this campaign as all faith in obama is lost . As an Independent I choose which candidates I feel will do the best job for our country. I make my selections not by party but by voting records and histories of the candidates. obama's record sucks and his goal appears to be the destruction of the USA
So you assume Willard's tax returns have been vetted by the IRS. You don't know for sure as you stated many times.
And as you stated earlier your research consist of watching Fox (aka republican propaganda machine) and listening the the 9% lying do nothing congress. As I stated before, that is not research. That is just repeating what you've been told. I wonder if you even know what actual research is or if you're just trying to makes us think you know what you're talking about. Either way you're not believable.
vageorge - you're a liar. The IRS doesn't tell anyone outside of the IRS when they are auditing someone or when they find a problem. You're ignorance is showing and the lying just makes you look like most Republicans - desperate and pretty lowlife!
Obama/Biden 2012
Vageorge - it's okay to be apart of the GOP, but stop making excuses for them. It is clear that you are not happy with the president and want a change. Bring your head out of the clouds. The GOP isn't all they are cracked up to be and insist that they give you a candidate that you can really get behind. Everyone one has known from the jump that the republican side is avoiding addressing the main concerns that everyone is knocking obama for. You seem to be pretty knowledgable; What is Romney's position on the economy other than it obama hasn't taken care of it. What is his solution for health care, social security, medicare? Obama hasn't addressed it. I understand you backing the GOP, but know what you are backing other then the Idea of let's get obama's black ass out of the House. You may be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Oh, so now I understand why we need Rmoney to run the country, this will explain how he's going to do it.
http://truth-out.org/news/item/11316-romneys-success-at-bain-capital-the-scam-as-business-model
Here's a recent example of how: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-29/bain-capital-s-contec-holdings-files-for-bankruptcy.html
Go Get em all
Capone was convicted on federal charges of tax evasion, and sentenced to federal prison
and just what is the meaning of your comment? Just more obama rhetoric ?
Bruce, yup and died from a venereal disease, hmm, equine....
Obama 2012
Tax avoidance has always been legal. Last night my wife wanted a Dairy Queen Blizzard while I got a half gallon of ice cream at the grocery store for the same price. Her dessert was taxed 9.8%, but mine was taxed only 2.2%, so I legally avoided paying 7.6% in sales tax. NY's grandstanding attorney is incompetent, and is the writer and editor of MSN who printed this dribble. See Wikipedia's definition of "tax avoidance".
There's a difference between tax avoidance and lying Thorgood. Willard and Bain said fees for service were investment income. That's like saying my income is actually investment income. That's tax evasion, which is illgal. So look up on Wikipedia's definition of "tax evasion". Another lie from Thorgood.
Bain capital under investigation for possible tax avoidance. Hmm.... lets see, venture capitalist..... primary goal is to extract money from your pocket and put it in theirs...Im pretty sure, not certain of course, but Im pretty sure that Bain capital is absolutely using strategies to avoid taxes. Its like bears ****ing in the woods, of course they are doing every trick in the book to avoid paying taxes. And when Romney was there, of course he was doing exactly the same thing. Those people are crooks. If Romney gets elected expect more of the same.
You are showing your ignorance again !
vageorge - and your ignorance hasn't STOPPED showing!
Obama/Biden 2012
Yeah, go ahead and scream it's all lies, but if you check out the links and do the research, IT'S TRUE. So, STFU if you don't won't to make the effort.
TERRY ANDERSON,
A BLACK LOS ANGELES TALK RADIO HOST, WENT DOWN A LIST OF THINGS SENATOR OBAMA
SAID THAT AREN'T EXACTLY CORRECT.
1.) Selma March Got Me Born - NOT
EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had
no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.
(Google 'Obama Selma ' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its
various untruths.) ! !
2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT
EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work
with the Kenyan Government.
3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter- NOT
EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments
Kenya has ever had.
4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY; your cousin Raila Odinga has created
mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya
. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is
pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law.
Your half-brother, Abongo Oba ma, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your
New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the
following link for verification of that....and for more.
Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim
law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned
Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian
church where they took shelter... Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the
election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No
one wants to know the truth.
5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at
5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't
allow her to have been one of 14 wives to1 man.
6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT
EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came)
means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. He is the first Arab-American
President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian
from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his
father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya , his father's
family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African
Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not
African Negro). Go to:
7.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT
EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as
a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so
you could run for office.
8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian- NOT
EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in
Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).
February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times: Mr. Obama recalled the
opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate
accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama
voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the
prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela
is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced
and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'
9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT
EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.
10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia , I Have More Foreign Experience – NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to
10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn except how to
study the Koran and watch cartoons?
11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs- NOT
EXACTLY, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger
surprise); you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO
experience with our closest allies.
12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion - NOT EXACTLY, you were quite content in high
school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to
identify - your classmates said you were just fine
13.)An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office - NOT EXACTLY, Ebony has yet to find the article
you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.
14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life - NOT EXACTLY, Life has yet to find the article you
mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.
15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08- NOT EXACTLY, despite saying, live on TV, which you
Does this guy ever tell the truth???
Mitt Romney does not want to show his tax returns!! Why?
He wants to deal with obama's record of failures, not spend months going oover his returns line by line. ( there are over 500 pages to his returns not just a quick form. Let obama play a fair game and disclose his sealed records then Romney will disclose his tax returns. By the way Romney has presented his tax returns. To the IRS and they have vetted them. Also to Cain and the Republican party in 2008 (10 years worth)
And vageorge still repeating his same old lie. How do you know the IRS has vetted Willard's tax returns?
Lies and smears. The tax probe is being conducted out of the New York Attorney General's Taxpayer Protection Bureau, which was set up in early 2011. The agency was established "to root out fraud and return money illegally stolen from New York taxpayers at no additional cost to the state," according to the AG's website. The attorney general’s office does not have the power to enforce federal tax laws.
The tax strategy in question is a process known as “management fee waiver” whereby executives could take money that would have been paid to them for managing investment funds and put the money into the funds, instead. The executives could pick and choose which companies to invest in, within a given fund, and were not required to invest the value of their fees for the entire life of a fund. They could decide whether to convert fees to investments on a quarter-to-quarter basis. The benefit for the investor is recouping its fee, while the fund manager gets extra incentive to make the fund perform well but is also taxed less on this money. The risk to the fund manager is having the value of the fund diminish, and coming away with less than was put in.
Despite the assertions of some, the Internal Revenue Service has so far not banned such a practice, which some private equity fund managers argue is done to align their interests more with those of their investors rather than to reduce taxes.
If you didn't look elsewhere, you'd never know the Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, is co-chair of a mortgage crisis unit under President Obama.
Romneys mormon church should go after him for cheating on his tithe if this is the case.
Romney Taxes
The Democratic Party is making a serious mistake by not insisting that Romney should play by the same rules as all presidential candidates. His arrogance in refusing to release his tax returns speaks to his belief that he is different from other candidates and entitled to preferential treatment. This says a lot about his contempt for precedence and for the electorate. Romney’s refusal to release his tax returns indicates that he has indulged in some tax shenanigans. He is therefore choosing to be held in suspicion than to be revealed as a tax cheat. The Democratic Party has a responsibility to the electorate to insist that Romney adheres to the requirements for anyone who aspires to be president.
Are you really blaming the Democratic party for the actions of MittWit the tax cheat? I know I didn't hear that. Republicans must REALLY be getting desperate.
- Mitt
Romney
This guy said it all:
"Mitt Romney does not need to release any more income tax returns. The 2010
return that he did release clearly shows what he has in mind, if he and Paul
Ryan have their way. Romney and Ryan both want to drop the tax rate on interest,
dividends and capital gains to zero. They have said this repeatedly.
I am not an expert on taxes, far from it, but let's look at just a few items
from Mitt's 2010 tax return: $3.3 million in interest, $5 million in dividends
and $12.5 million in capital gains. Gee, how about that? All taxed at 15
percent. $.5 million ordinary income from speaking fees, probably taxed at the
35 percent level. His charitable giving was $1.5 million in cash and $1.5
million in non-cash. His taxable rate is said to be 13.9 percent for this year.
IF MR. ROMNEY and Mr. RYAN THEIR WISH, MR. ROMNEY WOULD HAVE A TAX RATE OF LESS
THAN 1%.
Would you trust someone to run this country, a person that uses every means
possible to avoid paying taxes to the Federal and state governments, has
numerous off-shore accounts and will not release even 5 years of his tax
returns? Who has said many times, in so many words, that he wanted to drop the
tax rates to zero on 95 percent of his income, should he become president and
has lied about his tax returns before, while running for governor? And took a
$77 thousand business deduction for his wife's dancing horse?
Or would you want a person that has released 12 years of tax returns, wants
to raise very slightly the top marginal tax rate for the very wealthiest people
and leave the tax rate the same for 95 percent of the taxpayers?
Is that really a tough question? Not for me. I am voting for Barack Obama, a
man of the people, by the people and for the people."
DAVID M. JUSTICE
Do you mean like Obama? He used every trick in the book to lower his tax burden.
Why yes, and Obama has released many years of his complete tax returns. That's the republican problem, Obama has already released his, ready to take on the republican party and going over his returns with a fine tooth comb, looking for ammunition to use. Isn't that one of the reasons Romney is using....Obama is not afraid of anyone finding ammunition in his.
Conservative Rebellion - President Obama has released his tax returns since 2000. Lying Romney - not even 1 full year. 'nuff said!
Obama/Biden 2012
It's amusing how it is somehow illegal for Romney to use the law to lower his taxes but perfectly ok for Obama.
It demonstrates how desperate the loony left is to avoid talking about the failure-in-chief's sorry record and non-existent leadership skills.
All they've got is vote for him, he's "historic".
That is the problem with Romney. Like most of the wealth in America they don't want to pay what they owe in taxes. It's only legal because people like Romney are in a position to keep us the american people from voting on tax reform laws that will make what Romney is doing Illegal and he will have to pay his share of Taxes.
Are you serious? I would rather have Romney and others in his income bracket pay what they owe and move away from taking money from Veterans and old people.
Wow.
The New York AG office investigating for the feds. I guess the IRS under Obama is completely incompetent.
The din in LeftistLooneyville is reaching fever pitch. The hopelessness must be sinking in and they want to change it with lies and rumors.
speak up. i can't hear you.
Romney's company under investigation of tax avoidance. Romney is also under investigation for tax avoidance. We are all investigating those tax returns there MittWit. Turn them over.
OBAMA/BIDEN when the country doesn't need a flip flop, flim flam man
Romney 1040
Low brow liars is all the Party of the silent donkey has left.
No integrity, no honor, no hope.
Are you sure you are not mixing things up with the party of the farting elephant?
Did the Republicans ever find those WMD .. or the ties to 911 .. Has any of that trickle down .. ever trickle down?
Does anyone believe that liar Romney that he won't try to limit abortions even to women that are rapped? He says he won't .. but there it is in his parties platform. It would be congress that would do that anyway.
It must be a sad day for Republicans. They may try to point a finger at Obama saying he and his party are the liars .. but .. really isn't that way now is it.
No one knows where Romney stands on any key issue. He changes day to day. It's bad enough that Republicans trust this man ... But how can they ask the rest of us to believe a man that is on record being on both sides of any issue.
They don't trust him. They trust any republican. Don't you see. They really don't care anything about getting this country back on its feet. If the GOP did, they would offer us a republican candidate we could actually consider. He would be clear on his political agenda. He would lead by example and pay his share of taxes. He would be clear on the issues that affect the american people and he would not be trying to sell us a dream. I'm open. I just want a government that works. Go ahead convince me! I am a Dem, but I am willing to listen.
So let me get this in perspective. Obama lapdogs (WaPo and NY Times) are reporging that Eric Holder's organization is investigating Obama's competitor for the Presidency. Given the lack of ethics shown by Obama thus far and how poor his record is this smells of total desperation.
The sad part is this author is completely out of their element much like Obama. They somehow have confused tax avoidance which is completely legal with tax evasion is what is illegal.
These desperate zealots don't realize that this election is about the economy and no distractions they manufacture will be enough to cover Obama's utter and complete failure. Worse is this election is pointing out how much harm Obama has caused and how big a hypocrit he continues to be.
Try again, daddy-o. Its the New York State Attorney General that is spearheading this investigation, not Holder's Justice Department. Just a small flaw in your "perspective." I'll leave you to wallow in your fantasies about harming the country and hypocrisy. Rest assured, though ~ we all have you in "perspective." Have a nice day.
I agree with you that this election is about the economy. So tell me, when is Romney going to give us exact details on his agenda for improving the economy. Oh I get it, he is keeping that as secret as his taxes.
I really don't think Romney is withholding his tax returns due to paying very little tax or sending his money to offshore tax havens. Although both are 100% true.
I think he won't show them due to voting in a different place then reported on his tax frorms as his residence.
One question. When? What dates are they investigating Bain for not paying taxes? Was it before or after Romney left? Not one mention in this article. Before you attack, I'm a registered Democrat and not anti-Obama. I am anti misleading and sloppy reporting which happens on both sides and seems to be the norm nowadays.
Totally agree.
As far as the viewing of the RNC, all I have to say is HONEY BOO BOO.
@vageorge, whatever happened to the adage, "The buck stops here?" Business owners like you and Romney seem to be able to blame everyone but yourselves when problems arise in your businesses, but when it comes to proclaiming how well you did and the fact you own your own business, there is no end to the crowing!
