In Ryan's home state, Biden delights in trains, football and taking on Ryan

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Just a typical day in Bidenland: The Green Bay Packers, historic trains, and slamming Paul Ryan on Bowles-Simpson.

Appearing in GOP vice presidential nominee Ryan's home state Sunday afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden rattled off his knowledge of the hometown team's greats while admiring the artifacts at the National Railroad Museum, where about a thousand supporters came to hear him.

"Whoever set this up hit a soft spot in my heart," the famously frequent Amtrak rider said, standing with a Pullman car as a backdrop. "I’m the biggest railroad guy you’ve ever known."

Vice President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign event at the National Railroad Museum on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis.

Noting his Catholic schooling under a Packers-loving order of priests, Biden joked with the crowd heavily dotted with green and yellow team apparel, "In our school, it was the Father and the Son and Vince Lombardi."

But the meat of Biden's campaign speech Sunday also offered a new attack on Ryan's claims that President Barack Obama ignored the recommendations of a bipartisan commission he created to address the nation's staggering deficit in 2010.

"What he didn’t tell you is he sat on that commission," Biden said. "He and his House Republican friends that he leads – had they voted with the commission, it would have been voted on but he voted no.  He would not let it go to the floor. He walked away!"

"Romney has repeatedly said that he would reject any deal to bring down the debt that included 10 dollars in spending cuts even if it add only one dollar in taxes for the wealthy," he added. "Congressman Ryan failed to mention any of that – a convenient omission, I’d say."

Ryan served on the Bowles-Simpson commission and voted with six of the body's 18 members -- including both Republicans and Democrats – against its final recommendations. The commission's rules required 11 'yes' votes to advance for a full congressional vote. While Ryan praised many facets of the Bowles-Simpson proposal, he argued at the time that it did not do enough to address rising health costs.

The Obama administration did not publicly embrace Simpson-Bowles either, fearing backlash both from Democrats and Republicans – who Democrats feared would reflexively oppose a plan Obama backed.

Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck responded to Biden's claim by pointing out the Wisconsin congressman's continuing efforts to propose a responsible budget after the Bowles-Simpson panel fell apart.

"After the commission, Paul Ryan turned around and passed two budgets that put us on the path to balance," Buck said. "The President's proposal, meanwhile, was so un-serious that it received zero votes – from either party – in Congress.”

Ok, off subject, by why in the name of Joan Rivers did Biden get that terrible FACELIFT when Pelosi has a Plastic Surgeon on call that does PHENOMENAL facelifts ... Even Wayne Newtons botched lift is better ... and dont tell me thats not a lift, I see the scars (and dont tell me they are scars from a bar fight ... he has Secret Service Agents to keep him from getting beat up.) ... He must have gone to Pricilla Presleys Doctor in Mexico. Hmmm, maybe the Secret Service Agents on detail in Columbia were Bidens boys preparing the way for him to do those underage hookers there.

The total workforce is 155 million. The unemployment rate under Bush was 5%. Multiply those two numbers and you get an average of 7,750,000 workers who were unemployed.

Similarly the unemployment rate under Obama is now 8.2% which translates to 12,710,000 unemployed workers.

That means that, net, 5 million jobs were lost under Obama.

During most of the Bush years, unemployment was in steady decline, averaging 5%. When the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, the decline was first halted and then reversed. After Obama's failed "stimulus", unemployment rose even faster.

The unemployment under Bush may have averaged somewhere around 5% (I haven't done the math and don't intend to because it's not important, the trend is important) you conveniently leave out that when he left office the rates were skyrocketing due to the recession.

These are monthly stats. Columns are the months. So stop with the disinformation. At the end of Bush's second term we were coming into a full-blown recession, the worst since the great depression. And it's taking a while to get out. No, it doesn't look pretty but you don't recover from the crisis overnight.

In December, the number of unemployed persons increased by 632,000 to 11.1 million and the unemployment rate rose to 7.2 percent. Since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has grown by 3.6 million, and the unemployment rate has risen by 2.3 percentage points.

      http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2009/jan/wk2/art02.htm

Note the trend towards unemployment. All due to the recession.

You can skew the numbers any way you want but at least use real numbers. Your no better than your heroes Romney and Ryan. Lots of disinformation, little substance.

The recession you refer to was not inevitable. It became likely when we elected a Democrat congress. It became unavoidable when we elected Obama.

During most of the Bush years, unemployment was in steady decline, averaging 5%. When the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, the decline was first halted and then reversed. After Obama's failed "stimulus", unemployment rose even faster.

        BigB,

Let's talk about your $1.3 trillion average annual deficit under Bush.

The first Bush budget he controlled was FY 2002, correct? FY2001 was Clinton's budget signed Oct 2000. So, here's annual deficit figures from the treasury archives in billions:

        FY 2002-$158, FY2003-$378, FY2004-$412, FY2005-$318, FY2006-$248, FY2007-$167, FY2008-$458. So far, that's a total of $2.139 trillion.

The FY2009 budget would normally have been signed by Oct 2008. However, Pelosi and Reid would not send Bush 9 out of the 12 appropriations to sign. The remaining 9 were signed by Obama in Mar 2009 AFTER Pelosi and Reid increased the amounts.

What would have been a FY2009 $3.1 trillion dollar budget with a $1 trillion deficit was actually a $3.5 trillion budget with a $1.4 trillion deficit. But the extra $400 billion never gets attributed to Obama.

Anyway, if we look at debt from each president entering and leaving office In January (the deficit and debt figures we usually see are fiscal year-end October figures, there's some overlap to consider).

But looking at the archived figures above, I find it hard to believe your claim of Bush spending an average of $1.3 trillion per year.

        So?

Barack Hussein Obama ll is not an American, but an Islamic socialist. Born from a Communist mother and socialist father. Raised in Indonesia by his step-father Lolo Soetoro, then later, sent to Hawaii to live with his Communist grandparents. There, Barry Soetoro (only 10 yrs. old) was mentored by a known Communist, Frank Marshall Davis and Barry’s grandparents, until he graduated from high school.

Barry entered Occidental College as Barry Soetoro, an exchange student from Indonesia. Two years later, he enrolled @ Columbia University where Obama networks with Marxist professors/followers, black radicals and Pakistani students.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Obama meets Bill Ayers, known terrorist and co-founder of the Underground Weather. Obama is inspired by Ayers to run for public office and is supported by the “New Party”, an organization that was originally called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Barack Obama’s 20 yr. association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright had left Obama with many political scars and enhanced Obama’s desire for social order in government.

Today, Barack Obama still claims his devotion to Islam, while mocking Christianity. President Barack Obama plans to cut military spending in half, eliminating 80% of our defense weapons, including nuclear weapons and make the US dependent of energy, especially from petroleum oil. The economy is sliding back into recession, with a good chance to hit rock bottom. If this happens, the free world, as we know it, will be devastated. It will be then when the Islamic nations take over, with the help of Russia, ending democracy.

There is a dark side of Barack Obama that separates his ideals from those who live and believe in “We the People………….”. Form your own opinion, if you like, but mine rests heavily on the future of our great nation.

          May God bless America.

Joe and Candice, just a comment on the Biden rental propery.. This was a cottage on his property he rented out, when it was vacated by the tenant the SS contacted him to rent the property, because it was closer than the property they were using..Accordin to the SS. I see nothing wrong with this arrangement, or should Biden give up a source of his income to subsidize the SS, when they were already paying rent for other proprty. Biden unlike Romney is not rich, his reported income on his tav form was $378,000 between he and his wife, incliding $11,000 from the rental propert..Just saying

I am glad I woke up and realize the republicans and democrats have no interest in cutting debt or saving the dollar. There goal is to destroy this country with stupid social issues and making you think they are for the people. If all of you would not watch msnbc, cnn, and foxnews. You would all wake up and realize they are one big propaganda machine. Other countries now think we are bullies and idiots. Blow back and collapse of the dollar is what will destroy this country. Until we quit imposing are will on other countries we will never survive.

This could only happen in Romneyland.

Candice I was trying to figure your rational on the net negative jobs. If you add jobs, how can you have a negative net number. If you start with zero jods and add 4000 you can't have a negative number. But of course if you want to use Republican math you can accomplish this magnificent feat. How you say it's simple, if you start with 12 million negative employment at the end of the Bush Presidentcy, and subtract the 4 million created under Bush, you will show a net job loss figure of 8 million..Now that is Republican math, don't take responsibility for what you created, blame it on Obama. I'm sorry but you are dead wrong and you can not make any rational person agree with your claim. Good try though, guess you have been fooled so many tines by the repub pundits, you believe what they say..Try getting the facts and figures correct

What actual "community" collapses these posts? Reporting the post? Anybody can do that. Is there a moderator actually looking at it and determining if it should be collapsed? I don't think any comment should be collapsed because their political views differ from someone else.

LordPyrinc - NBC has a left-wing bias. Consequently, the majority of posters here are liberal Democrats. If there is a post that supports a conservative viewpoint and is irrefutable, it makes them uncomfortable. Because it makes them uncomfortable, they vote to hide it, and because they are in the majority, it gets collapsed.

If you go to a site with a right-wing bias, that doesn't happen, but there is less opportunity for countering opposing points of view. That's why I hang out here.

Its all about keeping you uninformed. For example; Obama supporters will collapse my post because they don't want you to read this Obama speech where Obama condemns his actions as those of a failed leader. Its understandable, I wouldn't want anyone reading this speech either if I was an Obama supporter.

The problem is that this is one of the greatest speeches Obama ever gave and all should have a chance to read it. It explains our economic problems in a nut shell and why our economy won't grow.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead,
interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk
about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., (Senate – March 16, 2006)

Ryan might have rubber stamped it , but it took a democratically controlled congress to support it and get it to Bush's desk so he could sign it.

                                    Ain't the Right wonderful?

My husband and I saw the movie Forest Gump tonight - again

Maybe just maybe people should listen to what people say and not how they look

What I find about Republicans is their mean spiritness - name calling I guess to make them feel important to put someone else down

Best line "I may be dumb but I'm not stupid"

How did this country become so hateful - or were we always like that? Maybe so - but being hateful benefits no one - least of all the haters

                                      Good Night - All!

Maybe they learned it from the democrats.

After all, the democrats supported slavery and went to war to keep it.

After all the Democrats did intern the Japanese Americans in guarded camps and let the German and Italian walk around free.

And there's here, where Obama supporters like to show their true colors of name calling and hate talk if you don't agree with them.

Seems you democrats are just a mean spirited group and have always been.

At one of the speeches in Wisconsin, Biden also said the following about Romney:

"He said it was a mistake to end the war in Iraq and bring all of our warriors home,...He said it was a mistake to set an end date for our warriors in Afghanistan and bring them home. He implies by the speech that he's ready to go to war in Syria and Iran."

Biden made the claim about Syria and Iran without offering specifics; his campaign did not immediately respond to a request for details and he did not use similar language on Syria and Iran at a later stop in Green Bay, Wis.

The only reason I bring this up is because many national security people (in the paper and on the news) say that if Israel is going to attack Iran, they will do it before the next presidential election. If they do, then the US will also be drawn into the conflict, if at least in a defensive role to protect Israel. So, my only point is that Biden should be careful about saying something that his own administration might end up in due to circumstance as it is possible that President Obama and Biden might find themselves in an unwelcome war defending Israel.

I also suspect that is why Biden backed off the comments on his second campaign stop and did not mention that topic again because someone in his campaign thought the same thing I did.

$20 million Obama's administration is/was spending for development of a children's TV program in a corrupt country like Pakistan. How many middle class jobs did that create in this country? It is quite surprising to see that Obama is spending the taxpayers money for these kind of programs in foreign nations after he made this speech. Not really, he's out to destroy our country with debt.

In February 2009, Democratic President Barack Obama stated:

I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay. And that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.

The Democrats would be better off to keep the village idiot under lock and key.

What was it, only a week ago the Obama campaign had to shut him up. I'm surprised they leave him off his leash at all.

And they are deficit hawks??? What did they do, bring in Samantha Stevens??? She wiggled HER nose but their noses continued to grow!

Dont listen to what ANY republican says--- WATCH what they DO, what they've DONE, and what they PLAN TO DO!

If Bush had NOT left Obama with a $1.3T deficit in FY 2009, Obama would be running ANY DEFCIITS to speak of. his spending increases have been the lowest in 60 years!!!

The unemployment rate is STRICTLY the result of the Great GOP Recession, which lost 8M jobs. Economists at the time said it might take a decade to restore them. And the GOP opposed every single bill proposed by Pres. Obama and the DEMS. At a time of crisis, with the country’s entire financial system near collapse, with the economy collapsing, with the stock market collapsing, with unemployment skyrocketing, with people losing their jobs and retirement money, the GOP announced that THEIR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY was to assure that Pres. Obama was a 1 term president---- even BEFORE he was sworn in!! They abandoned their duty to the American people for the sake of sabotaging a new president taking office in the midst of the greatest crisis since 1929.--- for the sake of political gain! They gave Joe America the finger!

Correction. Bush and his Democratically controlled congress. The democrats had the power to stop Bush, but they didn't.

Is it a coincidence that the same democratically controlled Congress that went along with the Bush spending was the same democratically controlled congress that went along with the Obama spending?

After all, how many times have you correct someone when they blame Obama for the spending by stating how congress is the only one which has the power to spend money.

Thank you for the opportunity to clear that up for you. Now maybe you'll stop trying to deceive the readers with your blogs, but I doubt it.

Hey what happened, left something out. Dems supported bush, they did not usr 140 filibusters to thawart his actions, Repubs have not made any effort to support Obama. If the programs were so bad why didn't Bush veto them ?
