In Ryan's home state, Biden delights in trains, football and taking on Ryan

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Just a typical day in Bidenland: The Green Bay Packers, historic trains, and slamming Paul Ryan on Bowles-Simpson.

Appearing in GOP vice presidential nominee Ryan's home state Sunday afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden rattled off his knowledge of the hometown team's greats while admiring the artifacts at the National Railroad Museum, where about a thousand supporters came to hear him.

"Whoever set this up hit a soft spot in my heart," the famously frequent Amtrak rider said, standing with a Pullman car as a backdrop. "I’m the biggest railroad guy you’ve ever known."

Vice President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign event at the National Railroad Museum on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis.

Noting his Catholic schooling under a Packers-loving order of priests, Biden joked with the crowd heavily dotted with green and yellow team apparel, "In our school, it was the Father and the Son and Vince Lombardi."

But the meat of Biden's campaign speech Sunday also offered a new attack on Ryan's claims that President Barack Obama ignored the recommendations of a bipartisan commission he created to address the nation's staggering deficit in 2010.

"What he didn’t tell you is he sat on that commission," Biden said. "He and his House Republican friends that he leads – had they voted with the commission, it would have been voted on but he voted no.  He would not let it go to the floor. He walked away!"

"Romney has repeatedly said that he would reject any deal to bring down the debt that included 10 dollars in spending cuts even if it add only one dollar in taxes for the wealthy," he added. "Congressman Ryan failed to mention any of that – a convenient omission, I’d say."

Ryan served on the Bowles-Simpson commission and voted with six of the body's 18 members -- including both Republicans and Democrats – against its final recommendations. The commission's rules required 11 'yes' votes to advance for a full congressional vote. While Ryan praised many facets of the Bowles-Simpson proposal, he argued at the time that it did not do enough to address rising health costs.

The Obama administration did not publicly embrace Simpson-Bowles either, fearing backlash both from Democrats and Republicans – who Democrats feared would reflexively oppose a plan Obama backed.

Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck responded to Biden's claim by pointing out the Wisconsin congressman's continuing efforts to propose a responsible budget after the Bowles-Simpson panel fell apart.

"After the commission, Paul Ryan turned around and passed two budgets that put us on the path to balance," Buck said. "The President's proposal, meanwhile, was so un-serious that it received zero votes – from either party – in Congress.”

                  THE REPUBLICAN LEGACY!

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The hemorrhaging of American jobs accelerated at a
record pace at the end of 2008, bringing the year's total job losses to 2.6
million or the highest level in more than six decades.

A sobering U.S. Labor Department jobs report Friday showed the economy lost
524,000 jobs in December and 1.9 million in the year's final four months, after
the credit crisis began in September.

The unemployment rate rose to 7.2% last month from 6.7% in November - its
                  highest rate since January 1993.

The steep annual drop in jobs marked the highest yearly job-loss total since
1945, the year in which World War II ended.

"We're seeing a complete unraveling of the labor market and are on track for
getting beyond 10% unemployment," said Lawrence Mishel, president of the
                  Economic Policy Institute.

The total number of unemployed Americans rose by 632,000 to 11.1 million.

                  Any more questions?

Romney said he would start a war with iran and bad mouthed russia to boot. He said it for all the world to hear. He criticised Obama for NOT starting a war with iran. I don't know how Romney is going to stop iran without going to war, seeing as how republicans will not put talks on the table. Thats about the only plan Romney has mentioned about what he would do as president.

And the number of people actually working (albeit at lower paying jobs in many cases) is still lower than when Obama took office, just another broken promise. The number of real unemployed Americans today? 23 million. Never start a fact debate when you are guaranteed to lose.

4luvssake, Obama promised to fix the economy or not run for re-election. Economy not fixed and Obama is running. Hence he is a liar. He promised to but the deficit in half in four years or resign. Deficit grew and he has not resigned. Hence he is a liar. Regardless of the abyssmal problems Bush left him, Obama promised to fix things and he has not. Before I get the expected "Republicans have blocked him" argument, please note that he promised to fix these things himself, not work with Congress to fix them. Hence he is a liar.

                                  Neal,

Another Republican lie. He promised to try to fix the economy. The reality is, he did fix a huge part of the economy. He brought us back from the precipice on which we were teetering and headed off a full-blown depression. He has worked very hard to reduce the unemployment levels. If it hadn't been for the Tea Bag Republicans our unemployment rate would probably be back to normal, but the Tea Bag Congress purposely blocked every single bit of legislation that came before them. They did this to keep the unemployment rate up as a way to make Obama look bad. They did this despite the very real human suffering they were causing. The blatant partisanship at the expense of the country is beyond comprehension. They were doing their best to damage the country and its citizens. What an incredible bunch of dirtbags. I hope they all lose their homes and livelihoods, the way so many middle class folks did, as a result of their obstructionism and viciousness.

The deficit is a direct result of two unfunded wars, an unfunded Medicare Part D, which does not put the cost of medications out to bid but requires us to buy those drugs from the most expensive outlets, and the unfunded tax cuts for the rich. If you take those away, then the deficit virtually disappears. And all of those costs were put in place by the Bush Administration. Obama didn't grow the deficit, Bush did.

The Chrysler bail-out has been repaid six years early and Chrysler has had record profits this year. GM was able to do a modified bankruptcy, which kept them in business and is showing more profits. This has saved tens of thousands of jobs and it is fortunate that the Republican Congress was not in power at that time or they would have forced GM and Chrysler into total bankruptcy and all of those jobs would have disappeared, at which time they would have blamed Obama.

If you really think he should have fixed the economy without the cooperation of Congress then I will let him know that you approve of him going around Congress to get his agenda accomplished. Then I'll watch you howl about his failure to respect the Constitution.

Your guys did everything in their power to block all legislation that might have made life better for the middle class. They left millions of people to swing in the wind all in the cause of partisan politics. If you think that the majority of the middle class hasn't figured that out, you are sadly mistaken.

We will not return to the failed policies of the Bush White House. We will not allow the failed trickle-down philosophies of the Republican politicians to finish bankrupting this country. We will throw your sorry backsides out of Washington for the next million years. This is our country and we will save it, in spite of your best efforts to send it down the tubes.

bill clinton created don't ask don't tell . not the republicans

and obama saved the car companies ? at what cost ? gm is not a success, their stock went from 38 per share after he said he saved it, to 21 where it is today. obama said that the car companies have paid the taxpayers back already, that is a bold face lie. gm still owes us(the taxpayers)43 billion and their financing arm gmac sill owes the us taxpayers 14.5 billion. hell, they had to change their name to ally bank and if you didn't notice and i'm sure you didn't, chevy just stopped production of the volt all together. the very car obama wanted them to make to wein the american consumer off of the combustion engine. no body wanted the damn thing except for people like you.

and if not for fiat, chrysler would be toast and now fiat is in trouble. ford didn't take any bail out money and is doing just fine . obama hasn't save anything, he just created more debt.

Just remember whenever someone claims that Obama saved the auto industry to correct them with Obama saved the auto unions. I quickly "researched" the Volt stoppage. GM has stopped production and has declined to say for how long. So I think you are probably correct that the Volt is either dead or dying. Good riddance.

The auto industry always shuts down in August in order to retool and bring the new models on line. This has nothing to do with the economy, and if you understood the auto industry, you would know that.

Chrysler has paid everything back. Not only that, but they renegotiated their contracts, wages and benefits and took big cuts in order to save their employers. So you can stop badmouthing the unions, too.

I am new to this board and hope that you accept me. You have the bashers, the uninformed, the one sided viewer, the informed, the eyes wide open, the both side watcher and hopefully the voters. I am the watching both sides kinda person and don't pick and choice based on my political affiliation. What I will say is that the pyramid has now been whittled down to a greased pole with the most affluent sitting at the top. Even as they say they built it themselves therefore free enterprise has rewarded them for their hard work which as they remind us is as it should be we must be careful. I agree that hard work and ideas should be rewarded with success. But what is being ignored is the part others play in the ascend up the pyramid. The people that accept the idea and help to make it happen, the workers that come everyday giving all they have, the consumer who purchases a want that isn't needed. Those are the things that allow people to move up the pyramid. Yet once there they seem to forget that it takes a response to an idea to make it become the reality that is traded in for the monetary influx that makes them wealthy. Corporations that are crying that they are unsure of the future are posting unprecedented profits, working employees overtime to make up for their resistance to hiring people while bemoaning the economy as dismal. Those are the things that we need to be straight talking about. I have worked 40 hours overtime every two weeks for years and my operators often work 80 hours overtime and this is for a HUGE global corporation. The demand is up for those we provide our service and materials to. The Trucking industry is struggling to keep up with covering the loads that are being offered to them by us. When our trucks are moving across the Nation our economy is comig back. Obama caught America when it was wounded, the operation to fix it was to stop the bleeding and like any wounds we must let it heal . I can't see us knocking the scab off to reverse that healing. For those that are afraid to re-elect President Obama based on haphazard opinions just make sure you are informed as to what the other side has in their medicine chest to continue the road to a healthy America. We need to stop vilifying each other and concentrate on what we need to do as a United Nation. Thanks for allowing me to say what I feel deep in my heart.

We need to do as the UN, are you kidding me. The UN is a Socialists organization and we should throw their sorry butts out of the US.... Now, stop crying for Obama, he had his four years and failed miserably. It time for a change, and if Mitt don't do it we will throw his butt out in four years. Obama can go back to that cesspool called Chicago. With all the murders there they need more community organizers.

The UN is not a socialist organization. It isn't a country or a government, so how can it be socialisit or any other persuasion.

To all of you who keep talking about how socialism has failed, take another look at Norway, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Latvia, etc. etc. etc. Greece and Portugal are in a world of hurt, not because of their government structure, but because of the abuses they heaped on that structure.

Communism has failed. Communism will always fail eventually, because it has no system of checks and balances. Communism is not socialism. They resemble one another, but most socialist countries have a representative elected government and a fair amount of private enterprise and private initiative. Communism has no representative government and no private enterprise and absolutely no private initiative. This is why China is drifting further and further from its communist roots.

To all those big corporations out there, if you built it yourself, why do you take a $1 trillion a year, every year, in tax subsidies? You're building your corporation with my tax dollars you crepuscular morons.

How come Biden never mentions the all bills that Harry Reid won't let come to the Senate floor? Is he afraid of that conversation?

Isn't the right wing just so much fun! they repeat themselves over and over just like poor senile Clint. Why have so many Romney/Ryan supporters have had their posts deleted. Maybe because they hate Obama so much they can't help from using profane language. They are uncouth sloths that cannot participate in intelligent dialogue.

biden may be on his way to being excommunicated, if he isn't yet. It is very humiliating for big time liberals such as biden - pelosi - kerry - kennedys - and the rest of the democrats self proclaimed catholics to claim to be Catholic. Catholicism is not in the name. It is in believing and practicing everything the Catholic Church teaches - not what one chooses to believe and practice.

So long as Obama doesn't allow Biden to talk about anything that REALLY matters, he has a chance. Seriously, if Obama were to become sick or die, would you REALLY want Biden running the Country????? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biden talked football? Man, I'd love to be back in my linebacker days and have "Fearless" Joe come through my hole. I'd love to put a hit on him so hard that he'd stop talking so tough when he's really a draft dodging (er, deferring) wuss. Alligator mouth, canary butt. That's Joe Biden.
