In Ryan's home state, Biden delights in trains, football and taking on Ryan

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Just a typical day in Bidenland: The Green Bay Packers, historic trains, and slamming Paul Ryan on Bowles-Simpson.

Appearing in GOP vice presidential nominee Ryan's home state Sunday afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden rattled off his knowledge of the hometown team's greats while admiring the artifacts at the National Railroad Museum, where about a thousand supporters came to hear him.

"Whoever set this up hit a soft spot in my heart," the famously frequent Amtrak rider said, standing with a Pullman car as a backdrop. "I’m the biggest railroad guy you’ve ever known."

Carolyn Kaster / AP

Vice President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign event at the National Railroad Museum on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis.

Noting his Catholic schooling under a Packers-loving order of priests, Biden joked with the crowd heavily dotted with green and yellow team apparel, "In our school, it was the Father and the Son and Vince Lombardi."

But the meat of Biden's campaign speech Sunday also offered a new attack on Ryan's claims that President Barack Obama ignored the recommendations of a bipartisan commission he created to address the nation's staggering deficit in 2010.

"What he didn’t tell you is he sat on that commission," Biden said. "He and his House Republican friends that he leads – had they voted with the commission, it would have been voted on but he voted no.  He would not let it go to the floor. He walked away!"

"Romney has repeatedly said that he would reject any deal to bring down the debt that included 10 dollars in spending cuts even if it add only one dollar in taxes for the wealthy," he added. "Congressman Ryan failed to mention any of that – a convenient omission, I’d say."

Ryan served on the Bowles-Simpson commission and voted with six of the body's 18 members -- including both Republicans and Democrats – against its final recommendations. The commission's rules required 11 'yes' votes to advance for a full congressional vote. While Ryan praised many facets of the Bowles-Simpson proposal, he argued at the time that it did not do enough to address rising health costs.

The Obama administration did not publicly embrace Simpson-Bowles either, fearing backlash both from Democrats and Republicans – who Democrats feared would reflexively oppose a plan Obama backed.

Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck responded to Biden's claim by pointing out the Wisconsin congressman's continuing efforts to propose a responsible budget after the Bowles-Simpson panel fell apart.

"After the commission, Paul Ryan turned around and passed two budgets that put us on the path to balance," Buck said. "The President's proposal, meanwhile, was so un-serious that it received zero votes – from either party – in Congress.”

This back and forth is not going to move people, but it does require Joe Biden to call Ryan's hand. To call the lies just that. That will allow the President to stay on message, and the Pesident's message will move people.

Oh just "messages"? You mean other than Lilly Ledbetter Act, Health Care Insurance Reform (that every president since Ike has wanted...Dems & GOP), DADT, Ended war in Iraq, ordered military to hunt down Bin Laden, Winding down war in Afghanistan, Dodd-Frank, Consumer protection agency...Shall I go on?

I really get tired of hearing from the uninformed that Obama only gives "messages" (if you can't tell).

Oh, and don't give us the "Obama had a super majority for two years...that's another falsehood. It only lasted 4 1/2 months...Sept 09 to Jan 10. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Also, if the GOP had not stonewalled and blocked everything the president tried to do to help the country (including the jobs bill), he would be elected with a vast majority...which is likely exactly why they were the party of NO!

"Yeah, Mike, over the past 4 years, we've heard "messages" ad nauseum from Obama.....unfortunately, we've seen no action....just heard "messages"."

******************************

No action? Let's see;

Millions of jobs created where millions WERE being lost.

The prevention of a 2nd Depression.

The killing of Osama Bin Laden, a mass murderer of thousands of Americans, that wouldn't have occured under a Romney presidency because Romney declared Bin Laden wasn't worth pursuing.

The saving of the auto industry and all of it's affilliated small businesses. How many millions of cars were created in the US, where none would have been created under a Romney presidency because he would have let them go under. Even those car companies that didn't get government money said that if GM went under, that the damage to the supply chain would also severely damage them.

The expansion of equal rights for gay people, including heroes in uniform- soldiers who serve, and die for, their country but are booed by republicans. No action?- only a person uninterested in the truth would make such a claim.

But we have seen plenty of action from the repubs. Blocking or flibustering any job bill brought up. Renaming post offices. Getting our credit rating lowered. What a glorious four years they have had. After all the slow recovery has nothing to do with any of that stuff now does it?

Robert Warner-3092405 - those numbers just don't compute!

The total workforce is 155 million. The unemployment rate under Bush was 5%. Multiply those two numbers and you get an average of 7,750,000 workers who were unemployed.

Similarly the unemployment rate under Obama is now 8.2% which translates to 12,710,000 unemployed workers.

That means that, net, 5 million jobs were lost under Obama.

During most of the Bush years, unemployment was in steady decline, averaging 5%. When the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, the decline was first halted and then reversed. After Obama's failed "stimulus", unemployment rose even faster.

From what I read from you I would guess: "lies, damn lies, and statistics", or, "we CAN just make stuff up", or, "Do you believe me or your own lying eyes?" Maybe it means "Trust me". I don't know. The Message that you keep hearing from the President is "The House is reponsible for the Budget". They just don't seem to understand because they continue to send a Budget to the Senate that they know will not be acceptable because of the defunding of Social Programs.

The Senate is never going to pass a Republican Budget untill they find something that will be acceptable. The House Republicans don't want to compromise on anything. When the Congress is working correctly the House sends a spending bill to the Senate and they set down in a Joint committee setting and work out the details of a compromise. That is the way it has worked since the Government was formed.

The Grid Lock in the Government is the Republican House and every American knows what the problem is and how to fix it this November. The Congress of the United States has the Lowest approval rating in the History of the Republic. I think we know why. REPUBLICANS.

Don't just complain here folks! Make sure that every democrat you can muster, in a district where a democrat has a chance to win a seat in the house or the senate, gets to the polls this November and votes a democratic ticket. I grew up in a Republican household, and many members of my family still feel they relate more closely with republicans than democrats, but none of them will look me in the eyes and tell me they want Mitt Romney to be president. They just don't like Obama, and most of them can't discern why. I gave up on the Republicans when they stopped being fiscal conservatives, blew through the budget surplus, started 2 unfunded wars, and started pandering to religious extremists. Obama is the only person remotely moderate running in this race, but he can't get the job done by himself. Democrats need to show up this November in force and we all need to drive, bus, or walk every democrat leaning voter to the polls we can. It's time we work together to give our President a shot at getting something valuable done for the American pubic! Make sure people you know, especially the elderly, get registered, have a legitimate ID, and make it to the polls to vote in November. Their medical benefits and those of their children depend on it!

If you don't like Obama and you don't like Mitt, but you usually vote republican, vote for Gary Johnson. It's better than voting for Willard and Lyin' Ryan!

4 more for 44!!!

Who called Ryan a liar? FOX NEWS DID

Deceiving

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

From 1980-2008 the size of government and debt has gotten larger in every year except the 8 Clinton years where government got smaller and we balanced the federal budget........case in point: Reaganomics(trickle-down) is fully to blame. Only when these tax breaks run out will we see a steady rise in the middle class.....

Kannin....the last six months of Bush administration saw the greatest loss in jobs in America since the depression. Obama administration stopped the bleeding and has been creating jobs for three years ! Not enough jobs, I agree, but certainly a lot better than the Bush disaster that came came within inches of causing a worldwide depression !

So tell me how Romney is going to create jobs and decrease the deficit while promising not to cut the military budget and not raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. Show me how that math works, I think we are all waiting to hear that secret plan ! My guess is that he will tell us the plan on the same day he releases his last six years of tax returns !

Just one simple question? Where are the jobs that obozo and looney claim have been 'created'?

By the way the gubernmunt does not cretae 'jobs' except by employing stooges in the many 'departments' which have little or no useful purpose.

These jobs are actually paid [positions to secure votes in a democrat style election.

It is the 'small' business folks who 'create jobs'. But they are being tortured by taxes, regulations, inspection teams. and miscellaneous record keeping requirements.

It is a lie of course it is a lie if Obama (if that is his name) spoke it that lots of jobs have been created.

That is such a lie his freaking nose should be about 4 and one half feet long by now.

Wow you democratic liberals are having to stretch these days. Did you listen to Ryan's speech? Lies? I don't think so. He accused Obama of ignoring Bowles-Simpson....which Obama did. He didn't say Bowles Simpson was something he approved of or voted for, he merely noted that Obama ignored his own commission.

The other "lie" about the GM plant...well...Obama did state that the plant would be open another 100 years under him. That is a fact. That the plant closed less that a year later (which Ryan did state in his speech), before Obama became president, is not enough to call Ryan a liar. Ryan did not say that Obama closed the plant at any time.

That garbage about "it's all because we aren't taxing the rich enough" has to stop. That IS NOT the problem! So let's say we let the rich be taxed more...great...now you have another $70 billion in revenue. The government is still spending $1.2 trillion more than it is taking in. It's a pointless gesture that doesn't solve anything. If it does anything, raising the taxes on the small business (which Obama refuses to differentiate from the private citizen that makes more than $250k) is going to cost MORE jobs.

Obama may have created 4.5 million jobs, but his policies have permenantly destroyed 6 million jobs. His healthcare reform act alone is predicted to cost 3 million jobs over the next few years.

What's the democrats solution? Another stimulus! Are you kidding me? The last one was a total waste of money and didn't help the economy a bit.

Joe-755363, the one lie from Ryan that I like the most: He ran a Marathon ( 26.2 miles) in “Under three, high twos. I had a two hour and fifty-something.”, which is a serious 7 minutes a mile time.

Except Ryan didn’t. He was fact-checked by, wait for it…Runner’s World magazine, a repository of marathon times. They couldn’t find his name as having run in any marathons. Finally, Runner’s World reported that the campaign told them that “that the Republican vice presidential candidate has run one marathon. That was the 1990 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, where Ryan, then 20, is listed as having finished in 4 hours, 1 minute, and 25 seconds.”

Biden also claims Romney wants to go to war with Iran and Syria!

And even though his claim is false, it does reveal Obama's real Iran policy.

Obama lied when he said that "all options are on the table"!

Obama lied when he said that he would "have Israel's back" if it decided to attack Iran on its own.

So although this claim by the VP certainly doesn't prove that Romney intends to go to war, it certainly proves that Obama has been lying all along! And it proves that Obama has already accepted a nuclear armed Iran!

The Presidents message will not "move people". The American people are suffering economic hardship and now that Obama wants to get re-elected he "feels your pain". Where has all the money gone in his almost 4 years in office? The average annual revenue to the federal government is $2.6Trillion. Over his 4 years he has spent 10.4Trillion plus another $5Trillion for a total of $15.4 trillion. So now he wants more taxes. We need less government, less spending not more taxes. $4trillion went to entitlement programs $2.7trillion to defense in 4 years...where did the other $8trillion go? Foreign aid and pay interest on the debt. The constitution says the government coins the money. It should not have to pay interest as long as the government has the assets to back it's money.

So ...Obama blew it and you want another 4 years of this incompetent executive...go for it... both Democrats and Republicans are to blame for this mess we are in...not just Bush. But here is the point over 4 years Obama should have been taking actions which would be apparent to the American people he hasn't yet he wants to continue with his "hope and change". Where's the hope and what changed?

Actually, the "super majority" was a total of about 24 days ... and those were split into two sections, they were not continuous days.

    1. BALANCE BEFORE THE ELECTION. In 2007 – 2008 the balance in the Senate was 51-49 in favor of the Democrats. On top of that, there was a Republican president who would likely veto any legislation the Republicans didn’t like. Not exactly a super majority.

    2. BIG GAIN IN 2008, BUT STILL NO SUPER MAJORITY. Coming out the 2008 election, the Democrats made big gains, but they didn’t immediately get a Super Majority. The Minnesota Senate race required a recount and was not undecided for more than six months. During that time, Norm Coleman was still sitting in the Senate and the Balance 59-41, still not a Super Majority.

    3. KENNEDY GRAVELY ILL. Teddy Kennedy casts his last vote in April and leaves Washington for good around the first of May. Technically he could come back to Washington vote on a pressing issue, but in actual fact, he never returns, even to vote on the Sotomayor confirmation. That leaves the balance in the Senate 58-41, two votes away from a super majority.

    4. STILL NO SUPER MAJORITY. In July, Al Frankin was finally declared the winner and was sworn in on July 7th, 2009, so the Democrats finally had a Super Majority of 60-40 six and one-half months into the year. However, by this point, Kennedy was unable to return to Washington even to participate in the Health Care debate, so it was only a technical super majority because Kennedy could no longer vote and the Senate does not allow proxies. Now the actual actual balance of voting members is 59-40 not enough to overcome a Republican filibuster.

    5. SENATE IS IN RECESS. Even if Kennedy were able to vote, the Senate went into summer recess three weeks later, from August 7th to September 8th.

    6. KENNEDY DIES. Six weeks later, on Aug 26, 2009 Teddy Kennedy died, putting the balance at 59-40. Now the Democrats don’t even have technical super majority.

    7. FINALLY, A SUPER MAJORITY! Kennedy’s replacement was sworn in on September 25, 2009, finally making the majority 60-40, just enough for a super majority.

    8. SENATE ADJOURNS. However the Senate adjourned for the year on October 9th, only providing 11 working days of super majority, from September 25th to October 9th.

    8. SCOTT BROWN ELECTED. Scott Brown was elected in November of 2009. The Senate was not in session during November and December of 2009. The Senate was in session for 10 days in January, but Scott Brown was sworn into office on February 4th, so the Democrats only had 13 days of super majority in 2010.

Summary: The Democrats only had 24 days of Super Majority between 2008 and 2010.

Discussion: The Democrats had a super majority for a total of 24 days. On top of that, the period of Super Majority was split into one 11-day period and one 13-day period. Given the glacial pace that business takes place in the Senate, this was way too little time for the Democrats pass any meaningful legislation, let alone get bills through committees and past all the obstructionistic tactics the Republicans were using to block legislation.

Further, these Super Majorities count Joe Lieberman as a Democrat even though he was by this time an Independent. Even though he was Liberal on some legislation, he was very conservative on other issues and opposed many of the key pieces of legislation the Democrats and Obama wanted to pass. For example, he was adamantly opposed to “Single Payer” health care and vowed to support a Republican Filibuster if it ever came to the floor.

    Summary:

    1. 1/07 – 12/08 – 51-49 – Ordinary Majority.
    2. 1/09 – 7/14/09 – 59-41 – Ordinary Majority. (Coleman/Franklin Recount.)
    3. 7/09 – 8/09 - 60-40 – Technical Super Majority, but since Kennedy is unable to vote, the Democrats can’t overcome a filibuster
    4. 8/09 – 9/09 - 59-40 – Ordinary Majority. (Kennedy dies)
    5. 9/09 – 10/09 - 60-40 – Super Majority for 11 working days.
    6. 1/10 – 2/10 – 60-40 – Super Majority for 13 working days

Total Time of the Democratic Super Majority: 24 Working days.

As I recall they didn't vote for the President's because the White House wanted to withdraw it because it assumed that that the Congress would pass some result from Simpson-Bowles and instead it all fell apart. You have to remember that the problem to be solved there was the House being unwilling to do what had to be done and so this law was drafted with teeth and cuts everywhere to force them to act. They passed it and then failed to act anyway.

here has all the money gone in his almost 4 years in office? The average annual revenue to the federal government is $2.6Trillion. Over his 4 years he has spent 10.4Trillion plus another $5Trillion for a total of $15.4 trillion.

Could you explain where you get these numbers? Because these seem total lies to me.

The total national debt today is about $15.4 trillion. (just google 'national debt.') According to you, he has built up all of this debt himself.

That means you are ignoring the fact that when he took office the debt was about 10 trillion already, along with the two wars being kept off the books and the unfunded mandate.

Yes, I am blaming Bush. For the wars. That he started.

As Obama himself has said, he has grown national spending at a rate lower than any President in modern history. It takes time to slow this wreck down.

Obama supporters are just a bunch of 'suckers' and just plain stupid people that think that this tele-prompter, wannabe hip hop Halfrican american bullsh!t artist can pull you out of the gutter!

He said himself that if he can't create jobs and turn the economy around that he's a one term president, then what's the problem? He should honor his own words and step aside and let someone else that at least knows how to run a business run the show.

1- there are no more jobs and unemployment has gone up

2- home foreclosures still going through the roof

3 - in just 1000 days of him being president another 5 trillions dollars in debt

4 - the economy in the tank worse than ever

5 - taking credit for killing Bin Laden is something that a even a 'half ass' president would 'NEVER' do ... EVER !!!

Good luck Obama chumpsters, I'm sitting here in my oceanfront home in Costa Rica enjoying life in paradise and please keep your fearless liar up there where he can continue to ruin the USA. Another 4 more years of Obama and you should fear not the terrorists, Obama will drive what's left of the USA into the ground himself and with your help too, he seems to be doing a fine job of that, now that's credit he truly deserves ..... he can sure F-Up a country.

However, fear not Obammie fans, her will jump on Air Force One to catch ball game somewhere at $186,000 per hour, hey it's only taxpayers money.

"After the commission, Paul Ryan turned around and passed two budgets that put us on the path to balance," Buck said. "The President's proposal, meanwhile, was so un-serious that it received zero votes – from either party – in Congress.”

What is not noted here is what was in Ryans proposed budget.....and how it would effect the middle class, the poor and those on social security...education..and health care. Its also interesting that...the so called budgets Ryan got passed had little to no endorsement by democratets in the house..only republicans...who had desided when Obama took office to do all possible to make Obama a one term president..at any cost.

If Romney and Ryan want to cut out taxes for their wealthy friends..great...as long as ALL taxes are cut out...not just for their wealthy friends.

      NH_Shellback

Isn't Simpson-Bowles a matter of public record Mr. Biden?

You bet it is, and perhaps you should do a little research on your own before posting comments. Pres. Obama created the bipartisan commission to identify and create a fiscal budget proposal. He appointed Sen. Alan Simpson and two world renowned economist from the Brookings Institute and Honeywell International to also be on the commission along with 4 other former CEO's from the private sector. There were 6 House members (3 Dem & 3 Rep) and 6 U.S. Senators (3 Dem & 3 Rep). ALL VOTED YES. And the bill was sent to the House. When the bill hit the House of Representatives floor for vote, it was 53-46 because Rep. Ryan went behind the commissions back to get Republicans to vote against the bill after he, himself approved the bill in the commission (which by the way he lied about and said he never did, then admitted he did in fact breech the commission's guidelines and talked to other's before the vote, but only after those republicans said he had approached him about sustaining a failed vote). All six who were on the commission voted against it after approving it for the house vote. Even Republican Senators called Ryan reckless and called the Ryan Plan "Economic Nonsense". But after all, this guy has a Bachelors degree in Political science and a minor in Economics and his own party has rebuked his "RYAN PLAN". I wonder why? Maybe because he knows nothing about advanced economics. A bachelors degree hardly makes one a highly educated economist, as a matter of fact, most companies would require a minimum of an MBA (Masters of Business Admnistration) to balance the books of a shoe manuefaturing company.

      COYOTEHUNTER

YOUR "BOY" HASN'T DONE CRAP, OTHER THAN FLAP HIS LIPS

Was the use of "boy" used in your remark meant to be racist....because it sure sounded like it. Unnecessary Coyotehunter....very unnecessary. Is it easy for people like you to just live life with blinders on and no matter what accomplishments one side or another make, your belligerent belief that it is better to be a "right fighter" overwhelms your sense of accuracy. What is accurate is that when Obama took office, our stock market was in a 8,000 range dip and the entire auto industry was teetering on collapse in this country. Do you have any idea what that would have caused? Obviously not. Under the Obama presidency whether as Republicans we want to see the facts or not....the auto industry was saved, banks under new regulations paid 99% of TARP money back, which was a bailout by George Bush, 1.2 Million people have gone back to work (not great, but a start after this country almost sustained a complete financial collapse driving our nation into a Depression), troops are out of Iraq, 10,000 Marines came home in August as negotiations are winding down the war in Afghanistan, people who were denied health insurance because of pre-existing conditions and women who had their rates raised annually can no longer be denied. 7 million young people were allowed to stay on their parents health insurance plans without it costing triple the amount for a COBRA policy for them. Medicare has cracked down on the self governing payment reimbursement systems of the AMA for their own physicians which caused wide-spread abuse of federal funds, and oh by the way.....that "boy" got Bin Laden under his watch. Considering the state of this country in November 2008, and the mishapped management that took place for 8 years to burn up a Surplus and engage our country in two wars, deregulate the housing market, banks, and wall street which nearly cost this country everything.....I'd say Obama did a C+ job at a minimum under the circumstances.

Inside every conservative like you is a rational factual person who wants to take the racial and hatefilled blinders off.

I personally believe that people need to wake up and get realistic; look into the candidates rather then the "precious parties" and vote for the one most capable of pulling this country out of it's spiraling debt and the mess it is in! I refuse to belong to any party and I have voted for candidates from both parties. You sir, have NO clue of what you are talking about and spout half truths & fairy tales. You can blame Bush for many things, but he's the one who set the pull out date for troops in Iraq and also set October, 2012 for those in Afghanistan. He left us with debts and Obama has increased the national debt although his campaign promise 4 years ago was to LOWER those debts!! We are in basically out of Iraq which SHOULD be helping decrease our debt. Obama knew where OBL has been for quite some time so why do you suppose he waited until elections were near to take him out? OBL actually was bottled up & not an immediate threat while Obama had Afghanistan "police forces" being trained by our own forces to kill our own people!!! FINALLY, Obama has had basically 4 years to AT LEAST slow down the debts that he promised to get rid of; yet he has increased them drastically and further endangered medicare and our status as a country!!! Obama has perhaps helped his own state with temporary help for the auto industry but he put the country further in debt in doing so...you can't spend money in one place without taking it from somewhere else, ESPECIALLY when the "bank" is empty!!!

In my opinion, Obama may be a charming individual with a gift of gab, but he certainly doesn't know the first thing about finance except to stuff his own pockets or how to lead a country anywhere but DOWN!!

I wonder sometimes if all of you see our problems as interrelated or if you think of them individually? The unemployment rate always goes up when GDP goes down or is stagnant--this isn't a republican or democrat problem--it's a fact of life that occurs in every sort of administration. In order to fix unemployment right now, we must stabilize and increase GDP. In order to increase GDP, we must make doing business in the US profitable again. None of this has anything to do with left or right, or congress or the presidency, beyond what the policies will be and how those policies will effect doing business in the US. Will they make matters better or worse?

While policies of "fairness" are great socially (and yes, they often represent the way things ought to be), they don't make for stability in business because they force business to lose profit. Some of you think profit is evil, but profit is necessary in business, in government, and even in your private lives. If a business is just breaking even, it can't expand, which means no increase in GDP, which means more unemployment. To restate, in actuality policies of "fairness" don't make for stability in your personal lives because they make your employers look for other ways to manage profit, which increases GDP, which means more jobs, which means increased government revenues, which means government has more money for the social programs you love-- IN SOME OTHER COUNTRY rather than here, because that's where the money's being made right now, because those other places made doing business more profitable.

It doesn't work the other way around though, as some people would like to think. GDP cannot truly be increased by pure increased government spending (QE print-on-demand). It's an impossibility, because printing to stimulate increases inflation, which makes the dollars we earn less valuable, which means doing business in the US costs even more than before. Furthermore, increased spending by the government without actual increase in GDP in the private American sector, where private business is actually doing more business, means increased public debt and higher debt repayment later, which means it's a sink hole, as everyone will have to be taxed more later on in order to pay for the increased spending now on top of inflation in costs of everything else making the same dollar buy less. This hope that the economy will be kick-started by stimulus after stimulus is a farce--literally it was hoped that it would temporarily fool everyone into doing more business. It hasn't improved anything, because the problems that caused the economy to dump in the first place haven't been addressed.

How do we address these problems? Do we even know what these problems are? Can we list them? Is it possible to undo them? We have to have serious, non-partisan talks about the order of things, what the causes and effects have been, in order to determine a sensible, measured way of moving forward. If you want stable jobs, you the people will stop fueling the partisan BS and start the honest discussion, without anger, without hatred, without the finger-pointing. All of our problems will be fixed by restoring confidence in the American business. Let's figure out how to bring that about.

With Ryan/Romney, we know these things to be true; they will not address our problems by asking the rich to pay more in taxes. They will oppose a woman's right to abortion and contraception. They will fight to dismantle the gaurantee of affordable health insurance. If you believe that the poor and middle class should pay for all of any debt reduction, leaving the rich of of the hook, vote republican. If you feel a woman must bear her rapist's child, and possibly share joint custody with that rapist, vote republican. If you want to be denied health insurance for any of a myriad of reasons- such ar pre-existing conditions or a genetic disposion towards a particular disease, vote republican. If, however, any of those things bother you, than vote straight Democrat this September. The Republicans must be stopped.

Devonshire, I know this may burst your bubble a little bit but, the United States has a substantial population of women, blacks, gays and, oh my god, Hispanics!

I got a surprise for you fool, most of us recognize that, women can be Americans, we also recognize that some black people in the U.S. are Americans, we know that Rmoney acknowledges that some American people are gay but still, he has never said he would not accept their vote if it were cast for him and, if Rmoney did not consider some Hispanics to be American he'll never hear the end of it.

Mitt might be prodded, without mercy, to prove that his father, born in Mexico, to fugitives from America, ever renounced his Mexican citizenship. Perhaps he lost it automatically when his father was kicked out of Mexco

Was George ever an American citizen? Was he an illegal alien thus, Mitt being an 'anchor baby?' (surely I jest).

Certainly we'll want to see his father's citizenship papers.

In his inaugural address, Obama promised "not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth." He promised to "build the roads and bridges, the electric grids, and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together." He promised to "restore science to its rightful place and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost." And he promised to "transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age." Unfortunately the president's score card on every single one of those bold pledges is pitiful. So a $16 trillion debt and climbing, 5 Trillion new Obama debt, 21 million people out of work, more people on food stamps than ever, destroying the healthcare system, unemployment above 8% and no sign of it getting better, first time in U.S. history our credit rating downgraded...you bet, Obama has really led the country in the right direction.

Exactly how is the healthcare system destroyed??? It was broken for many years, and now more people can get insured, what is wrong with that. If you start in on the tax...it only affects those without insurance...those that already have insurance will not be taxed...what is so hard to understand about that. The brinkmanship of the republican party is what brought on the downgrade..better read up on the that from last summer. Who walked away from the grand deal, it sure wasn't Obama and the democrats. Exactly how is the healthcare system destroyed???

Try the Affordable Health Care Act isn't Affordable!

      1) Premium Increases on Health Insurance went from 12-14% annually Now increases fall somewhere between 18 - 35%

      2) Papa John's Pizza estimates the new mandates will add 11 - 14 cents per pizzaI . (Most employees already insured.

      3) McDonalds estimates $30,000 per full time employee and $10,000 per part time employee. It's been quite a few years since I studied to be a Manager at McD's. As I recall, at the time, about 20 - 25% of every dollar was the cost for labor. There cost estimates nearly double the cost of labor. That would mean unless they find a way to cut how much labor thay have to function, then the price of food will increase 20- 25%. Or the $1.00 value menu would become the $1.25 value menu.

      4) I interviewed at a professional office last week. When the part about discussing benefits arrived, the interviewer told me that the owner pays all of the Health Care insurance, but doesn't know what he will continue to do so when the ACA is fully implimented.

Health Care also has to pay the same increases for it's employees. Do you seriously think they aren't going to cut staff too? Seems to me that would harm health care delivery when they are expecting an additional increase in people wanting servies. Thoughts anyone?

      Meto,

I wish we elected dictators so we could have those promises fulfilled, but we only elect presidents and their power is held in check by the other two branches, mainly the legislative branch the last 3 years. Time to get rid of the people standing in the way of those reforms and let the people that promised reform do their job. Saying no is not a solution, it is just refusing to do your job. I've got no problem with republicans that don't want to rubber stamp every bill that passes through the house or senate, but saying no to everyone doesn't cut it. Attaching anti-abortion laws to every bill they try to pass doesn't pass muster either. Time to let the democrats do what the republicans are only capable of refusing to do.

Pardon me, but my premiums have slowed this year in percentage of increases..and many more are being insured, thereby, decreasing the cost. More premiums being paid and hospital cost will start to go down due to more insured, not draining the system for emergency health care.

Also...most owners don't pay ALL of the cost for health care...over 75% employer plans have employee contributions...mine are over $100 each paycheck. Your interview was really great if the owner is paying ALL of the benefits...I'd grab that job and hang onto it.

I'm a nurse, RN, and work at an outpatient surgery center. No talk of lay-offs, but just like any corporation...we are asked for ways to be more efficient and to keep waste at a minimum. Most corporations ask employees how to keep cost down, and most corporations look for cheaper ways to do things.

By the way, my teenage daughter worked at McDonald's for over 3 years part-time. The entire store only had 2 full-time employees. McDonald's doesn't offer benefits for many of it's employee's, so that analogy is pretty lame. Just like Walmart...they keep their employee's wages low and in part-time work to avoid benefits.

With Obama'sCare the insurance companies are only allowed to make a 20% profit, if it's more they have to refund the $$$ above the 20% back to the companies which they did a month or so ago. It's up to the company to decide what they do with the $$$, such as giving it to the insured employees, which some did.

Jackiekay....Obama had a Democratic Congress and a Democratic Senate for his first 2 years in office. The only thing he got done was Obamacare. He wasn't focused on the economy or infrastructure. He had the opportunity to fulfill his promises. He did not. Now he can only blame the Republicans, while Harry Reid blocks everything the House passes. But hey it's his story and he is sticking to it. Even under Bush there was a Democratic House and Senate. They approved the tax cuts and they approved the spending. But hey it's their story and they are sticking to it. Don't blame the Democrats...blame the Republicans.

@Devonshire, if you study the legislature (and it is clear you don't) or read previous threads (equally clear) you will know that the Republicans set up an obstructionist stance since Day one of the Obama Presidency: "Our number one job is to make Obama a one term President" -John Boehner. Really? Job one? Shouldn't Jobs be job one? Especially since the economy was chugging along at -7.8%. Also, did you know the Debt Reduction Committee was voted down in the Senate by SIX REPUBLICAN COSPONSORS? The first time in history cosponsors voted against their own bill. Why? Obama supported it. The senate vote was already a majority but in an obstructionist legislature you now need a SUPERMAJORITY to overcome filibusters. and the PResident's supermajority? According to a well written thread above...24 days in session. Not focused on the infrastructure? Over $800 Billion spent on ARRA (a poor man's New Deal). And if you are talking about the House being blocked...which of the 32 (at last count) times the Republican House voted to repeal Obamacare is the one that "went over the line" into insanity (with the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result). Which leads to a legislature with a 12% approval rating and the most obstructionist since the Reconstruction. Shall we go on to hypocrisy like Ryan attacking Obama for "ignoring" Simpson-Bowles while Ryan (in a block of three Republicans-according to 3rd party analysts, the only vote bloc on the commission) voted against it? In a court of law that is called "opening the door"...and it is now wide open...where was any mention at the convention of ROmney's biggest health care accomplishment? the "Daddy" of Obamacare in MA? Or any mention of W.? Devonshire11, I have been looking to have a serious issue-related debate...are you up for it? Can you learn facts fast enough? Apply them properly and in context (you know, counting the budget deficit in Obama's first year in office to Bush...as you need to for ALL budgets passed the previous year for incoming Presidents. And no, I am not a Democrat. I am a Pissed Off Centrist who HATES hypocrisy...

FWIW, it was Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that said, "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.".....not John Boehner, Speaker of the House. ;-)

There's plenty of blame to go around, but pointing fingers isn't gonna solve a thing. Laugh if you want, but Clint Eastwood was right when he said, "politicians work for the people". If you feel the politicians in your state aren't working for you, vote & remind them of that !

          Hey, No Joe.

I don't begrudge V.P. Biden having rental property and renting it out to qualified tenants. But there's a conflict of interest there. If there's even a perceived conflict, any official should say no. That would exhibit a bit of integrity and demonstrate fiduciary responsibility over the tax payers money. Unfortunately, long time politicians have lost sight of core and reasonable ethics.

nojo - you are trying to make something out of nothing. This is a distraction on your part and an effort to deflect from the facts of the article by trying to discredit VP Biden.

The cottage is a rental property. It was a rental property before it was rented by the Secret Service. It was an existing business and if the Secret Service were not renting it, someone else would be. Therefore is no "undue profit" generated by this business by it being rented as it is generating the same income it would have if it were rented to a private person.

VP Biden did not use "undue influence" to have the property rented by the Secret Service. Neither VP Biden nor his family are recieving any "undue benefit" from the property being rented since the Secret Service is there to protect him already. It can be also argued that by using this cottage the Secret Service is saving taxpayer money in travel costs and other expenses directly related to their duties.

So to recap, it's not unethical because: no undue financial benefit (business existed prior), no undue influence used, no undue benefit (to renter or family), it's not illegal (or it couldn't haven been done), it's not immoral, and it saves the taxpayer money (thereby demonstrating financial restraint with the taxpayer dollars).

I am consistently amazed at the selective reading abilities of the Obama cult.

From the article I linked in my original post

The agency says it is a unique situation. "We don't pay rent to any other protectees," Donovan told The Ticket

Yes, the Bidens had a rental property on their property. Yes, their tenants moved out. Yes, the Secret Setvice requested the property as being in closer proximity to the people they were protecting.

Since we are already, rightly, paying for that protection- why the heck do we also have to pay the Bidens RENT?

And what would you say if it were the Romneys- or the Ryan's?

Oh. Right. Then selective outrage would crop up, and you'd be all over it. Sort of like how, now, the reason the President cannot go to an area devastated by a hurricane is that he might interfere with the First Respinders, or his security would interfere with the clean up, or, well, whatever, it's just not a good idea- even though the Governor of that state invited him to come see for himself what his decision not to build a levee in that area because it never flooded has wrought on the "not enough people" in that area.

Now, explain, please, why those reasons are justification for Obama staying away, but were unacceptable for Bush?

          We would all be relieved.

Unique does not mean unethical. They are two entirely different words. And no, I wouldn't whooping and hollering if the situation was applicable to the Gov. Romney or Rep. Ryan. Besides, what part of "saving taxpayer money" is bad? So now you are advocating that the federal government should deliberately (and therefore improperly) pay extra for what would amount to the same level of protection? That's just a bizarre position for a conservative to take.

With respect to Hurricane Isaac, it's not uncommon for Presidential visits in emergency events to require a few days advance planning in order for the Secret Service, the State, and the local jurisdictions to coordinate resources and meet whatever needs are required. Specifically, the State will also provide input to the President's staff advising them of the ability of the State to meet the visit needs under current conditions. I don't fault President Bush for taking a few days to show up.

So why/how did Gov. Romney get to slide in so fast? Because Gov. Jindal is a Republican and he can make the executive decisions for allocation of staff and resources for his State. I am NOT implying that Gov. Jindal diverted required resources from N.O. I am saying that he can authorize additional State resources to meet political and ideological agendas under the rational that he is advocating for the people of Louisiana via the publicity associated with the visit.

Now that said, I DO directly fault President Bush and his administration for not taking the Hurricane Katrina seriously by not being prepared, and in fact directly, reducing the capability/capacity and coordination required for federal response prior to the event.

Under the Bush administration FEMA had been reduced from a Cabinet position, been functionally gutted (for political reasons and to divert its staff and budget to DHS), and was basically incapable of preparation for disaster or response. No resources were in place prior to the Hurricane Katrina event happening. FEMA Administrator Brown was a political appointee who's only emergency services expertise was whatever happened in an Arabian Horse Club show or meeting.

In fact, when Administrator Brown showed up in N.O., his first question was "any good places to eat around here?" Not, "What do you need" or "Can you give me an update?" Then when President Bush showed up his first public words were "Doing a heck of a job, Brownie." And this was after the Superdome issues had started to rear their ugly head.

Liberal/Democrat or Conservative/Republican, all that is here are kool-aid drinking cult followers. Do you people not see? I used to wonder why football players would go out and shake hands and laugh with the members of the other team at the conclusion of the game. Then I got it. They're in business together. Win or lose they get their money. The federal gov't is the same way. Republicans and Democrats make their money for each other and put on their "show" or "game" on certain Tuesdays. Hey Joe, would you rather the Secret Service pay fair market value for facilities convenient enough to provide the Vice President's protection detail, feasible accommodation or, would you rather pay the going rate for a lease or rent in that neighborhood? (near Greenwood, DE) Let's see now, $2,200 per month or going rent for nearby accommodations suitable to the task +other costs associated with transportation and facilities at Biden's home) which would bring the costs substantially higher (several thousand)? Consider that this neighborhood is in what, many democrats, might consider to be 'a high rent district.' The Biden's charge them the same rent they charged the previous tenant. Perhaps we could have the Secret Service move to a different location and you could pay the difference in cost?. That is, by the way, your only option.

The association of Joe Biden and AMTRAK and his visit to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay is not inconsequential. Biden rode AMTRAK DAILY from his home in Deleware to his office in DC while he was in the Senate. He is a great supporter of AMTRAK and passenger rail. Ryan, on the other hand wants to shut down AMTRAK. He supported WI governor Scott Walker in his decision to not implement the Talgo service from Chicago to Milwaukee and Madison, even though the trainsets were already contracted for an were built. His much touted Ryan budget calls for the sale of AMTRAK assets to private industry and the end of our national passenger rail system.

Now I know yhe rhight wing folks will come out swinging about the AMTRAK federal subsidies. May I remind you that they are miniscule compared to what the Airlines, trucking companies, Shipping lines and truckers receive. A national rail passenger system is essential to our nation and its economy and need to be EXPANDED not eliminated.

DB, how many miles of interstate would the taxes paid by one truck cover? Half a mile, over the lifetime of the truck...maybe? How about the snow removal in the winter? Every winter. The repair after disasters like Isaac? The taxes they pay are MINUTE compared to the actual cost of buhilding maintaining and operating our interstate system. The balance is a defacto subsidy of their operating expenses, and is far more than AMTRAK has ever received.

Amtrak passenger services has been a losing proposition for many, many years. Every year Amtrak gets a large subsidy but it remains hughly expensive and unprofitable. It's had enough time to turn around so it's now clear that it need to be shutdown. How can it currently compete with Megabus ($19 from DC to NY) for only a few more hours travel time. Train travel has its romantic side but you have to let it pass into history sometime, and that time has arrived.

Trucks and automobiles get even higher subsidies than the railroads. What do you think highways are? Did they build them for free?

Could Megabus make a profit if they had to build, maintain and support the interstates they drive on? I dont think so. The defacto subsidies that road, sea & air transportation systems receive are far more than AMTRAK ever has and they would not survive without them. May I remind you that during blizards in the northeast the last few years.. what means of transportation kept running? It wasnt Mega Bus or USAir. It was AMTRAK. AMTRAK moves more passengers at less cost to the taxpayers than any other form of transportation in the USA.

The other direct advantage to increasing rail usage is that it would lower our use of fossil fuels dramatically. This would directly help us with energy independence, national security, and reduce environmental impacts associated with the increase in impervious surface and fuel emissions.

My My. it's quite a sensation, Ryan can run his mouth full of lies faster than he can run under a 3 hour merithon. I guess he is an osterage because he sticks his head in the sand and say's " I miss spoke ". It's pretty bad when the people in your own home town, " His high school buddies even say he is lying ! As far as Romney and the truth, I thought he was a pastor, how then can he continue to lie and repeat it ? I thought we looked for truth and honesty from our spiritual leaders. Ife can't tell the truth as a member of the cloth, what makes anyone think he will tell the truth at any time ? I have lived in America, born and raised for 76 years, and am proud to be an American, but the RR ticket wants me to believe they have the answers, but I have yet to see any proposal from them that would benefit the average American. Tax cuts, because they are afraid of some guy named Grover, who the heck put him in charge, I never voted for him to set policy, and neither did you. Tell me one thing the Koch Brothers did to enhance our standing in the world ? Tell me how ending Obama care will help the 14 million childern and disabled seniors who will be thrown under the bus and kicked od medicade under Ryans budget. Tell the benefit of your colledge student will loose their insurance coverage, and be excluded from their parent insurance. Tell me the truth about Medicare. R&R lie about Obama stealing 716 billion dollars for Medicare, to pay for Obama care, when he actualy got consesions from the drug companies, and care providers, without reducing any benefits, and actualy strengthend the benefits you get in medicare by adding aaddition coverage, and including many benefits for free. Ryan takes that 716 billion under his program and keeps it and gives it out as tax reductions for the 1%.

I must laugh when Rommney thinks we are so stupid. He claims to have a plan to create 12 milliom jobs in his first four years in office. Guess he thinks we can't read economic reports that publis the same number will be the normal increase during that period..But Romney wants you to believe he has a plan.

It is a lie when R&R say that seniors will not be affecte by repeal of Obama care. I hope no one has a major medical problem, because you will no longer have the same prescription drug coverage, no more covered preventative medical examinations. Physicians will return to the co-pay for office visits, So if Obama care is repealed on day one of R&R's plan, and you are 62, no Medicare for you, without a voucher, which won't pay the cost of major health problems, and you will foot the $1,000's not covered out of you pocket, there goes your retitement nest egg.

Please take time to think about where these guys want to take the average American, it's called " to the ranks of the unprivelaged " They could care less about your future, or the future of this country, as long as they have what they have, and can improve their bank account at your expens

Repeal of Medicare is proven to be an effective means of population control. If it will work well in America, we have proof that lack of medical coverage and care leads to rapid decline in populations around the world so, let's get it rolling.

The Myth Romney/ Lyin' Ryan economics joke is here to see:

Is this the economy we want? Looks to me like a textbook case of masturbatory (trickle down) voodoo economics guaranteed to feather the nests of the 1%rs and screw the rest of US. When pressed on details ol' Myth just babbles about his (vulture) business experience. He's like Rudy Giuliani, but instead of "noun, verb, 9/11", you get "noun, verb, businessman". He has whole Federal agencies scheduled for "creative destruction" with no idea of the real impact on anyone else (just like at Bain Capital). He wants to save defense programs, but lower taxes (only on his fellow 1%ers of course) and the numbers just don't add up. You'd think some of these self-righteous monkeys would have the integrity to get that Lyin' Ryan budget scored by the CBO? Nah, not a chance.

George Carlin said once (I think), "Whenever you hear some businessmen discussing what policies are good for America, don't bend over!"

Pathetic beady eyed jackals they are. Show us the money, Myth! Give 'em hell, Joe!

Had you bothered to check with the unemploymemnt board of statistics, you would have seen that when Bush was elected the unemployment figure was 4.7, and on December 31, 2008 the unemployment rate under bush was 7.8 % In December of 2008 we were loosing jobs at the rate of 800,000 per month under bush. During Bush's 8 years, he created 1 Million new jobs, in 3.75 years Obama has added or saved over 4 million Jobs. Bush left office with a 10.7 Trillion dollar deficit, when he started as president we had a $285 billion surplus. Before you spout of, you best get your figures right, Oh !! During Bush's 8 years, 2.4 million net jobs were created. Under President Obama, you quote 4 million jobs were added or saved. Those are not "net" jobs. Net jobs are still in negative numbers. These are facts.

In addition, you can't count "saved" jobs. "Saved" is just conjecture. If you use a "saved" number, you have to come up with a "saved" number for President Bush, too. Otherwise your comparisons aren't really valid.

BigB, thank you for telling the truth. It is sad that we believer anything people tell us without researching the facts for ourselves. I have never seen a country like this before and that is why China owns us today. We want a quick fix to everything and we have no patience. We plan for tomorrow and the Chinese plans take them 50 years from now. It is proven! We won't give credit where credit is due. The Republicans purposely derailed this country by saying that their agenda was to make President Obama was a one time President. That is how much they hated him. Why would a rich man want to be President! Simple: To make sure he becomes richer to include his cronies! They are trying to surpress the vote, etc. How low can you stoop! Just want to thank you again for standing up and telling the truth or rather I say, giving credit where credit is due. I never took any credit from any man who I know that the welfare of this nation is his only concern! He has done wonders with the Rescumblicans saying no to everything he put forward, what if they would have supported the way the Dems supported Reagan!

Fox News called Ryan a LIAR

Romney ran the Olympics...and conveniently omits the fact that he had $1.5B in taxpayer money to help him "build it".

dal - Sally Cohen is a liberal contributor to Fox. Her columns are biased to the left. That's okay. That's her job.

Fox affirmed the General Motors story was "not unfactual." They did call Mr. Ryan out on the incomplete representation of Simpson Bowles. The debt ceiling debacle can be attributed to the Republicans, the Democrats and the President.

Actually, the misrepresentation of Simpson Bowles that Ryan gave in his speech is quite similar to Vice President Biden's comments today. VP Biden neglected to mention that "The Obama administration did not publicly embrace Simpson-Bowles either, fearing backlash both from Democrats and Republicans – who Democrats feared would reflexively oppose a plan Obama backed." according to the article above.

Mr. Biden was doing exactly the same thing he is accusing Mr. Ryan of.

              Just saying.....

Ryan blatantly lied during his convention speech, which this fact check shows and is also the same facts that have been reported previously in the news.

Mr Biden the draft dodger wants to speak. Sorry Joe can't hear a word you are saying because I am a veteran and didn't refuse to go in the military like you. Prseident Obama has promised to cut military health benefits starting in January of 2013 so I am going to see if candidate Romney who also didn't serve in the military wants to let us veterans have the health benefits we have earned with our sacrifices.

The country was in a slide, losing 800K jobs a month. A loyal opposition would have asked, "How can we help?". The GOP put ideology ahead of country and asked, "WHY should we help?".

No. He is going to increase military spending, protect Medicare and Medicaid, reduce unemployment to record levels, intervene in Iran, continue the war in Afghanistan, AND balance the budget, all WITHOUT raising taxes.......just don't ask him how.....

If Romney gets elected the prudent thing to do regarding the military is not to change military health benefits like President Obama is going to do starting in January. Sorry Mr President you CAN"T compare the military to the private sector like you mentioned when announcing making the military pay more for their health benefits they have earned with their sacrifice.

Romney if elected should see which weapon systems are truly needed and cut funding for systems that are non-essential. As far as medicare goes there are some places cuts need to be made like unnecessary equipment that medicare pays for i.e. a pump to give you an erection is covered by medicare. A cell phone, etc, etc.

As far as social security goes : the politicians have been stealing from the social security fund for years and have never paid the money they stole from social security back. Why don't we cut politicians pay and make them have the same health care as the rest of us. See how many politicians would run for office if they had to live like the working class.
