Romney tours storm-damaged parish in Louisiana

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, left, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, center, talk with people at an ice and water distribution point while touring damage from Hurricane Isaac in Jean Lafitte, La., on Friday.

KENNER, La. -- With the formal nominating process of the Republican convention behind him, Mitt Romney stepped off the campaign trail for several hours Friday afternoon to tour storm-damaged neighborhoods and meet with local officials in hurricane-battered southern Louisiana.

On Friday morning, the Romney campaign scrapped plans for an afternoon Romney-Ryan rally in Virginia, sending Ryan alone after an event in Florida and diverting Romney, on his new campaign plane, to Jefferson Parish, south of New Orleans.

On the ground, Romney met with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Sen. David Vitter, both Republicans, to tour the area, which was hit hard this week by Hurricane Isaac, and to meet with first responders.

"You and I have talked several times. You said you wanted to support the folks, wanted to make sure they had everything they needed," Jindal told Romney when the group convened along the highway. "Appreciate you being here."

Romney said the visit, which lasted several hours, was meant as an opportunity to hear from residents and to bring attention to their plight, and his campaign said Romney attempted to cause minimal disruption to the recovery effort here.

“I’m here to learn and obviously to draw some attention to what’s going here,” Romney told Jindal. “So that people around the country know that people down here need help.”

Isaac outages keep heat on Louisiana; twister alerts inland

Romney spoke with a handful of residents here in this heavily Republican state, which isn’t expected to be competitive in November.

“I thought he’d be more like a politician, but it was more understanding and caring,”  42-year old Jodie Chiarello, who spoke with Romney outside the post office in Jean Lafitte post office said. “He was caring,” she said, adding that she would “probably” vote for him.

A senior Romney campaign adviser said the campaign did not take into account when President Barack Obama might visit the New Orleans area, saying the trip was not meant as a political exercise and dismissing any suggestion that visiting before the president would be inappropriate.

"There have been concerns about being disruptive of the recovery. I mean I think that is why we are going with a smaller group now and why we [are] deferring to the governors," strategist Stuart Stevens told reporters, who were split into a smaller pool to keep the traveling group small. "I'm sure that’s a consideration. You don't want to disrupt things."

After the Romney campaign announced the trip, the White House advised reporters that the president would cancel a campaign event and travel here on Monday.

The American people may be poor but they aint stupid. Obama may not be perfect but at least he tries to do those things that are best for the people, not for himself.

Hi Feisty.......I watched Ann and Mittster talk about their new found love....COSTCO... the other day. Trying their hardest to be a common man and woman overnight. Multimillionaire did the laundry, did the ironing ...uh huh! The awkward moment of the month award....Mitt said the shirts came 3 in a pack...What a revelation. Never in my life have I ever heard men talk about buying t shirts at COSTCO or any place else to show they are regular people. For the first time they actually had to try something that common people do all the time. This man and woman are so out of touch with common people, they had to stage a moment of commonality with people. Mitt went to the hardware store and bought some whatchamacallits and thingamajigs like he was Bob Villa of "This Old House." Mitt is too far from being a common man to know what a common man is, and too far removed from a common man to know what a common man needs!

I can tell your a Obama supporter. The first thing you did was judge someone because of the way they looked. Typical Democratic! Then you attacked his success only because you're jealous you don't have the moxie to be more like him. Secondly, if you think the American people are poor it's only because you have no idea what poor really is. Even with the complete idiot we have in the White House Americans live way better than 95% of the rest of the world. Especially our poor. Your last comment takes the cake. He has done things to others and not himself. Gas prices up by double since 2009, food prices up, energy prices up, job market sucks, taxes high, health insurance up by 30%. The list goes on and on. The only way you could possibly support a lost cause like Obama is because your a leach like the rest of democrats and live off the hard work of others.

What is it that Mittens thinks he can do for these people? Is he going to dig into one of his offshore accounts to help Americans? No he would put money in American Banks if he wanted to help them.

Did Mitt Romney pass along Republican message to the poor: "Go F*** Yourself"?

We all know that Republicans don't want to help any of them. They need to "Build" their homes and lives back up themselves... with no help from anyone, ever.

Remember Romney's speech, when he made the comment about helping the poor, and not a single Republican cheered? There was no sound... crickets. I half expected one of the attendee's to shoot him for being such a "socialist".

Repubs have a history of not helping out after storms. Cantor pledged to vote againt any billl that would help the country to make Obama a one term president. So here is what repubs did. Repubs hate America!

Source :http://www.editedforclarity.com/2011/09/13/republicans-block-fema-funds-for-disaster-relief/

Republicans Block FEMA Funds For Disaster Relief

We have mentioned before (here and here) about how Eric Cantor has said he will block relief funds without offsetting cuts. He threatened to do it with funds for relief in Joplin, MO after their devastating F5 tornado, and again with Hurricane Irene. Apparently, the outcry about his positions did nothing to change the Republican mindset, and last night they voted to block a FEMA funding bill, never allowing it to come to a vote. Via Raw Story:

A package of disaster relief funding worth $7 billion was blocked from coming up for a vote by Senate Republicans on Monday, drawing sharp condemnation from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) who lambasted the conservative party for abandoning Americans in need.

“Last night, Democrats tried to move forward on a measure that would have granted the Federal Emergency Management Agency additional funding to help communities devastated by natural disasters,” Sen. Reid said in an advisory.

“This ought to be the least political issue going – whether to reach out a helping hand to our friends and neighbors in their time of need,” he continued. “They have lost friends and loved ones. Their homes, businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed by acts of god. Their communities are under water or reduced to rubble.

The vote was 53-33, with Republicans uniting against measure that would have brought the aid package to a vote and put a rush on some emergency funds. A 60-vote majority was required to pass it.

“They don’t need help next week or next month,” Reid railed. “They need it now. They need it today.”

He added that because of the increased number of natural disasters this year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has just over $300 million left. President Barack Obama has issued disaster declarations in 48 states since the beginning of 2011.

The funds are so low, Reid said, that FEMA has stopped rebuilding the town of Joplin, Missouri, which was practically destroyed by tornadoes earlier this year. It withdrew funding for the Joplin rebuilding in order to provide food and shelter to the victims of Hurricane Irene.

So – flooding victims aren’t getting the funds, and the people of Joplin are being victimized again, not by an act of God but an act of Senate Republicans. Keep in mind that this wasn’t a vote to deny the funds. It was a vote to deny the funding ever being considered. Maybe they thought that if it didn’t come up for a full vote, they could sweep it under the rug. I have a hunch those folks who have lost homes, businesses – even family members – won’t be so eager to see this swept away without full consideration.

Disaster relief is one of the things that government is best suited for. But as the constant drone from the right tells us, we should have no government. That somehow, these people should be able to fend for themselves when these disasters happen. As Ron Paul said in the CNN/Tea Party Express debate, that’s freedom.

In this case, it’s the freedom to lose everything you own and care about, and not get any help in recovering. I hope the folks in these hard-hit areas remember who pulled the rug out from under them when the 2012 elections roll around.

Pretty bad for Romney and Ryan when even Fox news makes fun of Ryan for being such a liar at the convention the other night! Guess we see why people like Mikey like to make up things when they glorify liars like Romney and Ryan.!

From Huffington post 8-30-12

According to Fox News columnist Sally Kohn, vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday "was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech."

KAI....Guess you would have missed the news conference President Obama had on National TV explaining the preparation made and the monitoring done. Guess you won't see that on Fox news....you know the news station that when you do search on Fox news dumber shows studies that prove people who watch Fox news are dumber after watching Fox news? Homer Adams: Your comment below tells me you know little about your candidate.

What is so wrong or illegal about having accounts with other countries? A USA citizen is still required to report them to the IRS, which W M Romney has done.

Romney doesn't simply have offshore accounts he's created shell companies and done so many things even with what little information he provides would make any reasonable person suspicious. Romney claims in the last paragraph of the article that he doesn't know how the money in his blind trust is invested even though the executor of this trust is his friend, personal attorney and man he appointed as president to his Caymans shell company. Can even his staunchest supporter claim to believe this?

Recent articles by The Associated Press and Vanity Fair focused on a Bermuda account that Mr. Romney transferred to his wife’s blind trust the day before he was inaugurated as governor of Massachusetts in 2003. The account, created in 1997, had not been properly disclosed to voters until January. Even though it had few assets in 2010, according to the return, it could have sheltered a significant amount of income last year or in previous years.

The 2010 tax return showed that the blind trust held by his wife, Ann, included a $3 million Swiss bank account that had not been properly reported on previous financial disclosure statements. (The account was closed by the trust manager in 2010 who feared it might become embarrassing for the campaign. He was right.) It also showed that Mr. Romney had used a complex offshore tax shelter, known as a blocker corporation, to shield the investments in his I.R.A. from paying an obscure business tax.

The return showed at least 20 investments not previously listed on disclosure reports, but it did not provide enough information to evaluate their size or holdings. Neither the tax return nor other disclosures have revealed the full amounts of the Romneys’ other offshore holdings over the years, including investments in Germany, Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands, Australia and Ireland.

The campaign says Mr. Romney has received no tax benefits from his offshore shelters, a dubious assertion but one impossible to check without more disclosure. Mr. Romney said this week that he had no idea where the blind trust had put his money, and he dismissed the issue of the offshore investments, saying they were no more consequential than investing in a foreign car company.

Everyone can piss and moan all they want, but at the end of the day it was Romney who found the time to actually visit the stricken area while Obama was busy with more important matters... drumming up votes.

Who the hell cares what Romney was wearing or where he got his clothes, he took the time and at least gave the impression of actually caring, which is a hell of a lot more than Obama did.

Obama got bucked out of the saddle, plain and simple.

AreYouBuyingThis?

Romney to victims....I can't do anything to help you so let's all line up for a photo shoot....smile....

Actually Obama is the one who visit , Fort Brag for a photo shoot session, to get more support from the military, after he put in his resume 2000 soldiers died in Afghanistan.. Obama the Commander in Chief is not a Commander , he and his liberals Friends are against Military. Antonio Villagrosa Mayor of San Francisco want to close all the recruiting offices, he said we don't need an Army. He is going to speak in the Democrat Convention.

Obama doesn't care about the poor and never help them , like good liberal he help the poor with someone else money, in contrast with Romney that donate money and time to the people that need in his community , real American, Romney left his campaign to visit New Orleans , Obama will go on Monday after a round of golf.

Okay, I know it's late and everybody has probably gone to sleep, but I want to reply to Starsailing #1.6.

It just occured to me that I have never seen collared button shirts sold by the pack (three-pack). T-shirts, yes; but not collared button shirts. I don't shop at Costco, so I can't be an expert at this. Can anybody definitively show me that button up shirts are sold by the three-pack at Costco? Didn't Ann Romney say that the shirt Mitt was wearing (a button up) was purchased as a "three-pack"?

I don't want to go on the ledge and call Ann and Mitt liars. Maybe Ann didn't say that at all. It's Friday night, and I confess that I got carried away by the hilarity of Jon Stewart's take on Clint Eastwood talking to the empty chair. My god, that was funny. Wait a minute; what was my question again? Starsailing: You're the one who does the research and provides links and stuff. Still awake?

Starailing.... you post a link to the rebublicans block FEMA bill but fail to explain why that was

don;t you. Was it perhaps because it contained no way to fund that 6.7 billion dollar bill and the republicans didn't want to raise the debt ? you also fail to mention the Democrats blocked a Fema bill later that WAS FUNDED. So it is just tit for tat garbage.

The republicans want to hold down spending but Democrats wsant to borrow borrow borrow. We have to get our budget under control. Don't post half the story unless your willing to be called out on it.

But God help us, because this country was STUPID enough to re-elect that gold spoon fed a$$hat from Texas a second time! So I would not be shocked, at all, if this country with millions of airheads would vote for Mitt-wit, a vulture capitalist extraordinaire, to lead us back into that ditch to stay....

That is what Ronald Reagan said before he had to deal with a Democratic Majority in the House. Old Tip O'Neal gave him the tax cuts out of fear, but then did not give but 1/3 the Reagan Promised $1 spending cut for each $1 of tax cut. With that Failure, the Democrats pounced all over the Republicans over the resulting deficits. Kind of like after Palpatine (Darth Sidious) pretended to lose his light sabre fight with Qui Don, and as Quoin Don is ready to strike Sidious dead, he says he is too weak, you are killing a unarmed defensless man. Then after Anikan strikes Quoin Don, Sidious Finishes Quoin Don off with a round of Force Lightning.

The Democrats have been using the "Force Lightning" for 32 years now.

People are so misinformed. I guess you all missed the memo about how are country was going to suffer from Bush's presidency for years to come. This was said before Obama was even elected. So yes you can thank Bush for the debt. I did not believe Obama could fix it in one term, why in the world he thought that was beyond me. However Mitt is definately not the answer.

You need to quit thinking about how you feel Obama, has done nothing or made things worse and start looking at what the opposition's damage could be. Voucher program that goes by the economy of 2.1% inflation while medical inflation is 2.9%. How Mitt wishes to cause a tax hike on the middle class. Cut tons of sh*t. If he is elected you think the country is bad now...

I do not think Obama is the "Savior" of this country however if Mitt gets in your looking at worse to come.

A senior Romney campaign adviser said the campaign did not take into account when President Barack Obama might visit the New Orleans area, saying the trip was not meant as a political exercise and dismissing any suggestion that visiting before the president would be inappropriate.

haha, these politicians are so hilarious! Of course Romney meant to show up O'bama. As soon as O'bama learned of this, he hurried his ass down there too. This stuff is just comical to me. I love the comments on who cares more too, its great! Guess what, these guys dont give a @!$%#...its all about getting the sympathy of the voter. Its quite easy to see. The ambition it takes to land these political positions is far greater than the ordinary human being. Ambition that will drive them to do anything to achieve their goal.

        #2.18 - Sat Sep 1, 2012 12:19 AM EDT

Let me see. George W. (Shrub) Bush started TWO unfunded wars-- didn't bother to budget for them. When Obama became president, HE budgeted for Shrub's two unfunded wars-- that is the reason that Obama's budgets have been high. He figured we had to pay for Shrub's unfunded wars somehow.

Also, Shrub came up with the Medicare Part D plan-- didn't bother to figure that into his budgets either.

It took Bush eight years to put us in a financial pit-- and Obama isn't a miracle worker. He can't fix all Shrub's messes in one term.

At least we are out of Iraq-- and hopefully my grandson will be able to stay stateside for a long time.

Nooooo......repubs aren't evil....Uh huh..! Sure .... Repubs just want to get your money by privatizing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the Post Office which will take more profits for them and their middle men and you get higher rates and less service. Repubs aren't evil they just create voter suppression laws to stop the elderly, the poor, the young, and the middle class from voting! Any known group of voters that do not vote for what repubs want, they target with numerous laws removing same day registrations, changing polling place locations and hrs and to make it costly or too far to drive to vote etc. repubs don't want the elderly to vote because they vote to keep their Soc. Sec, Medicare, Medicaid and Post Office. repubs don't want the young to register to vote because they vote more caring on issues against repub social issues. Repubs don't want the poor to vote because they vote for need of programs like welfare, health care, food stamps, housing, etc after they lost their jobs due to greedy rich crashing the economy. Repubs aren't evil...they just want the middle class and poor to pay for the Romney rich getting more tax breaks like in the Romney and Ryan plans show. The Majority of Americans want the rich to pay more fair share of taxes(Higher taxes). Repubs are not evil....nooooo......not to rich republicans paying the lowest tax rates ever and the want it even lower. Romney is not evil....he just wants all your money and jobs offshore so he can receive the profits off them and not pay any taxes on it. Romney show us your taxes and prove you are not evil!.....Yikes...I guess repubs are evil......by their own actions.......!

Look folks, you have been fed that republicans are evil. They simply aren't. If you can't figure that out, you have a problem.

Starsailing did an excellent job explaining why Republicans are evil, DB.

The GOP is evil. It is run by evil old men: Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove (in the finest Lee Atwater tradition), and now the pathological liar Mitt Romney.

American citizens have been systematically fed a diet of lies and propaganda by the GOP and their arm, FOX news, owned by one of the world's most unprincipled men, Rupert Murdoch.

The sole aim of the GOP is to get their power back and they aren't above lying and manipulation to do that. The GOP is the party of yesterday, the party of old white men grasping to hold on to power in a changing demographic environment, the party of "NO".

America is not a perfect country. We have made many mistakes at home and abroad. But we have the best system yet devised for a people to rule themselves. The GOP wants to take that away from us. They want all the power in the hands of wealthy individuals and the corporations. That is not the system the Founding Fathers envisioned for our nation.

Wake up, DB!! Think for yourself! Turn off Fox News! Take a close look at what Republicans offer: a country ruled by right-wing liars and hypocrites, engineered to steal from the middle class to support the wealthy, using god and the flag as props.

Vote for the future of our democracy: RE-ELECT PRESIDENT OBAMA.

GnBRoss...you are mistaken and terribly misinformed. Romney, as all of us other Mormons, pay a tithe to the church. We do not pay to a "relief fund". We can also make additional gifts to the church at our discretion and as we can afford to do, there is the missionary fund, and we are encouraged to fast (not eat) once a month and to donate that which we would have spent on that meal to the church as a fast offering. We additionally donate our time doing service for others at many different organized service projects, from members in need as well as non-members in need, the community, the bishops storehouse, the church cannery, as well as other civic service as disaster relief as undertaken by church members who traveled to Joplin, MO and in New Orleans after Katrina.

The church also teaches us that liars will burn in the lake of fire, I know what Romney has to look forward to, I am sorry he is a member of my church, his lies are a matter of public record. One good deed does not excuse the numerous evil things perpetuated by this man.

WRONG as usual Feisty it is ASKED, NOT required. And the Mormons are also NOT required to do works. They see doing both as their duty to God.

BTW Romney appears to give more than 10% and from some of the testimonies, he gives more than what is reported to individuals as he sees fit.

You're just a fool but I'll comment anyway. I have more respect for someone like Biden who doesn't pretend to be someone he isn't unlike a Romney who only releases 1 year so he can pad the 1 return he knows will be public. At least you know what Biden donates because he doesn't hide his returns.

As far as charity your statement is even more absurd. It's liberals Gates and Buffett and most other notable wealthy people setting up foundations are liberals. Both set up foundations to distribute most of their wealth to charity and they already spend billions every year. Name any conservative who gives anywhere close.

As your kind always talk about liberals spending other peoples money they're usually talking about taxes. As 33% of federal income tax revenue goes to military spending and only 28% went to programs for it's citizens. Liberals pay taxes as well as you if you do. We have just as much right to express our opinion as to how it's spent. Your assertion that we want the government to spend YOUR money on what we support instead of what we paid means your IQ probably matches what you pay.

Another 11 percent went to responding to poverty in the form of assistance with food, housing, education, energy and other essentials. The government spent 17 percent of income tax dollars on health care, including Medicaid, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and related programs.

I really DON'T care what "trees Obama helped somebody REMOVE or 8 year old cancer victim wrote a will for, etc"...Kids he took care of. What I DO care about is all the children's lives he is SAVING by making sure they'll be able to get HEALTHCARE, instead of DYING for lack of of it like the gop will do when the ack the crap out of MEDICAID and force women to have children regardless of the circumstances of that pregnancy or if they can afford prenatal care and that a child is born in poverty, will have proper medica care, schooling, a loving home and qulaity of life ONCE it IS BORN just be BORN is all.. And as far as President Obama giving to charity, he has given PLENTY to charity. All of the money from the Nobel Peace Prize he gave to chairty and kept none of it but still you cons crabbed about WHO he gave it to and he should not have got the prize at all.
His children's history book he wrote? All of the money went to the families of disabled veterans. He did not keep any of that money either. The President and Michelle spend every Christmas with our troops in HI serving food and spending time the families there as well as on Thanksgiving visiting troops at another base serving Thankgiving dinner to troops and their families. Every 4th of July, military families are invited to spend the evening on the WH lawn with the Obamas to watch the fireworks display and Michelle's first cause which she still is actively engaged in is her support group for military wives and children who have spouses who are deployed and need an outlet/comfort of others in that person's prolonged absence and the effect it has on their family. Michelle has become very attached to these people and their children. Also she created a vested interest in the health of nation's children through Let's Move and getting schools to serve more nutritous lunches as well as make fitness programs available after seeing many schools lacked facilities and a P.E. program or even 1/2 of recess a day. Childhood obesity is a problem in the US as more and more children sit on computers, are not getting playtime as they play video games or particpate in sports or physical activity of any kind so the First Lady and President voiced their concerns as well as concerns about the quality of education in our schools and made focusing on our children one of THEIR priorities. Of course it has been an uphill battle when GUESS WHO slashes funding for schools and attacks our teachers for being overpaid, lazy, leeches of the taxpayers and "UNION THUGS"? The teahads when they seized control of the House in DC and in the states they did, like MINE starting with a rat named Scott Walker who had to get his G.E.D. to get a H.S. diploma and never DID finish college. No wonder he hates teachers and had it out for them. The only leech on the taxpayer is HIM and his Koch brothers funded campaign of millionaires and liars. His biggest campaign donation was the size of what my city of De Pere school district of wonderful schools ALONE got socked in budget cuts- 1/2 a MILLION dollars!!!!!!! ANIMALS!!! THIS is what America will be reduced to with a Robm/Ruin Administration. The rich will be filthy richer and the rest of us will have NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING!!!
This man is a selfish, shiftless, lying oligarch who wants it ALL for his plutocracy and "corporate state" and the working class are to become the wage slaves of the Industrial Age late 1800's where if you fell and were injured at work? Too bad. You're done. Go home to your tenement and rot because your children can still labour for pennies on the dollar 14 hours a day.

This whole article is about a person going to an area and talking to people and being nice to people ... Private Citizen Mitt Romney per the LA Times 8-28-2012, went to New Orleans right after Katrina, talked to individuals (not Civic Leaders, and Pastors ... no cameras, and this was related by an African American Pastor (Baptist? I think) Mitt got the services they needed fast ... dental, medical services to people, He got food, water, ice and clothes to them right then ... How? I dont know... maybe Bain sent a Truck full of people and stuff or he paid Safeway to bring stuff or maybe hes like Elizabeth Montgomery in Bewitched and twinked it there ... but read the short article in the ULTRA LIBERAL LA TIMES ... He did it, without fanfare as a private citizen.

That article made me decide to vote Romney ... I like a man that meets with people and wants to help people vs. puppet Obama who reads a telepromter to talk down to people, does a photo op, might give a few an autographed 8x10 for you to bow down to and only goes there when they can serve him caviar while he talks @!$%#.

Now, lets ID the idiots that always respond CRAP to any article on this website. They support Obama. Lets identify them. They have an agenda. They are full of bull and you cant trust them:(And you can check the LA Times 8-28-2012 article to see if Im telling you the truth or not) They dont give references but they just talk talk talk and bull bull bull but no facts or place to check up on their bull, misinformation, and lies.

            Ok The worst,

            1) Feisty must be the DNC Chair's bot. ...The woman who thinks married women dont do a thing and are second class and actually she thinks they have less rights than her Doc Johnson. She loses her job. She fears that she cant get taxpayers to pay for her next 100 abortions even though the only guys that touch her are the last call Joe Biden types at the bar. She refuses to NORPLANT or use birth control. Her va g j leaks due to stress and injury from serial abortions. (I believe in abortion, but after a few, NORPLANT or tie your tubes, employers and taxpayers shouldnt have to pay for your bad planning and lack of respect to your body ... comdoms and birth control do work. Pay for a pak of Trojans and 6 bucks at Wal mart for Birth Control Meds.

            2) American Girl is Chers fat child that chopped her breasts off, take, against Dr.s warning, male hormones that are highly dangerous for a fat pig like IT is, and wants taxpayers to pay for those hormones and for it to have a penis attached and always rants against all Religion because it doesnt feel accepted, and in reality it doesnt accept anyone.

            3) Freelancer is a plant from China. It knows that the 3.4% tax on the GROSS SALES price of a home will force Middle and Lower Income people to become renters. China bought all kinds of foreclosures and with the trillions we owe, Obama will sign away and let China build projects for Americans to rent at prices set by China. China will decide who gets heat, AC water and sanitation. and everyone knows Chian paints with lead base paint and dont care about your health. Why do I think this ... Obama and Pelosi just loaded the biggest tax increase on lower and middle income taxpayers by Sales Price of Residence tax and hiding it in Obamacare (Nancy, Trust us, I know, you dont have to know dummies, Pelosi) Homes are lower and middle income citizens biggest mprice tax.assett and we got lied to by Queen Nancy and King Obama.

            4) Beverly in Chicago ... please everyone knows Chicago is the sewer of the USA: Highest Murder rate ... total hole ... the most corrupt place in the USA ... You cant trust anything that comes out of Chicago Everyone in Chicago knows that the place is full of liars. Go back to ballet class rahll.\

            5) Voiceinmyhead .. He got kicked out of a Religion for being a bad person (probably a pedophile) He acts righteous (self righteous) and is hiding that hes a serial rapist. But as for teh comments, he JUDGES where a person is going after they die (I'll help ya Voice, its a box in the ground dummy ... DUH!!!) That said if he was a goody two shoe religious person, he wouldnt judge where a person goes ... I heard that on some idiot Sunday Sermon in my car (Thank radio waves for XM Radio) He says Romney is going to hell ... what is hell what is heaven but if Religion is right Voice isnt on a trip to a nice place. I guess hes getting the velvet lined casket lol) .. Dude youre going to BOX or a vase or will be tossed and crapped on by fishes (water) or animals (land) dummy! He might be Jesse Jackson (worth 600 million bucks, (Prechin" Bull PAYS!) Al Sharpton or any person mad about being kicked out of a Religion. If youre (per religion) really good, you follow that diddy Judge Not so you arent ... and Layton/Feisty ... re Tithing everyone is supposed to pay that per the Old Testement (I read that, and its a dirty book, all kinds of nasty stuff goes on ..Really ... read it) Plus a Mormon neighbor told me that religion has a website and says that he has never taken his Tax returns to Church and he goes to Temple like those people said

That website said the questions and I didnt see it so I want a web page that tells your claim, LAYTOn,Voice and Feisty (it was lds and not com but org (?) ... why lds verses Mormon Ill never know and dont care to) but I trust teh neighbor and tax returns are not asked for or shown ... so youre LIARS. So wow, Voice, Layton and Feisty are liars ... ask Voice where youre going ... Ill say it youre going to a dirty box lol ... but no matter what youre already full of crap so a place full of excrement is waiting?

Thems the Obama/Biden Player at NBC!

Again this article is about a person going to an area and talking to people and being nice to people ... He will win Louisiana no matter what so this trip wasnt to get votes it was to be nice, just like he was after Katrina as a Private GREAT US Citizen.

Mitt has my vote, sorry Barak but I think youve had a bit too much Champagne and Caviar on my tax dollars and Joe, I like you, but go to rehab!

Freelancer..I have no problem with Americans having healthcare. What I do have a problem with is people being forced to purchase health care who don't want it.

A good 1/2 of the so called "Uninsured" are the 18-35yr old group. Single, or married with no kids these people are traditionally the healthiest age group. While I agree that they might get into accidents or have a freak accident, they are for the most part healthy. When they start getting older or beginning a family is when they will purchase health care through their employer.

I am a firm believer in no one being denied health insurance, regardless of a pre-existing condition. But that said, I have been reading blogs for months now of how people want the overweight to pay higher premiums than the rest of us, to have smokers pay higher. I'm curious as to how many of the "Uninsurable" due to pre-existing conditions fall under either of those two catagories, and what might be done about them paying more.

No Layton, I am not incorrect. You and Fiesty are believing false assertions and rumors.

There is no internet reference other than assertions at blogs to what you speak of.

The only reference is someone asking the question and the answer was NO.

What the Bishop does is provide a giving report and ask if that is 10%. That is the extent of it, and really is nothing more than pressure, if you are not giving what is asked.

I do remember a Jewish person say that their branch of the Jewish faith that may ask for your tax returns, so they can determine if their members are giving enough.

There have been some Catholic Parishes that have at times may go to members and say we believe you are making this much because of your where you work, should be giving this much, and are giving this much.

There are some Protestant branches that will visit people they know are clearly not giving 10%. Most don't because they know if you require a certain amount, it is not only against Biblical teachings, but you will lose those people because of the confrontation.

Janine I am not sure where you are getting your facts besides some blogs. What blogs these are I have no idea. However none the less healthcare should be available to all. Even taking healthcare out of the picture as far as Obamcare you would still vote for someone who would destroy the country? I already pointed out about the voucher program in another post. Also why in the world would you feel a tax hike on the middle class to give the wealthy tax breaks is a good idea. Take a look at Bush Tax Cuts, where are all those jobs?

Also have you not noticed previous articles pointing to the rich becoming even wealthier during the recession. Just on another point lower wage earners need raises to have more buying power. There are aslot of jobs it is hard to get a raise. I know people personally that have this issue. One example is a guy that has worked 8+ years and has got one raise.

DB Akron ... he was a BISHOP and he wasn't appointed because of his compassion for others. I am sure I know an awful lot more about the Mormon church than you. Also, if he wanted to help, he could have donated to the Red Cross. Don't give me the humanitarian aid crap of the LDS church. They take in billions every year and give 7% of that amount back to humanitarian efforts.

I know Mormons, they are usually giving to the entire community. Because they, like any other group find out about needs at the regular meetings, of course they are going to find out about those needs first and help them.

I have know a Mormon personally, he would do anything for you, just as many Christian in many churches I have visited. You must be a neighbor of Harry Reid's, he is the polar opposite of Romney. I put that out there because there are always exceptions to what we all see ourselves. Not only that, with any church, it takes people who convert to learn what they need to do and sometimes they are quite resistant. Some times they just really mess up.

Most of the Mormon churches revenue goes to buying for profit businesses including over 1,000,000 acres of land, the largest cattle ranch in the country at 330,000 acres, TV and radio stations, shopping malls, insurance companies and hundreds of more too numerous to list.

                  Layton

he was a BISHOP and he wasn't appointed because of his compassion for others

                  Wrong again Layton

The bishop is also concerned for the daily physical needs of each ward member, especially the sick, elderly, and handicapped.

Inside there you will also see that he is considered a priest in the order of Malchizedek. Most people probably do not know what this means. This was a priest at the time of Abraham. This priest was seen as a priest to the entire region, not just to his city.

                  http://www.mormonwiki.com/Bishop

I had to look this one up, because it had not been covered by any of the people I know who have dealt with and learned about the Mormon religion.

DB Akron, I've worked for Bishops quite often. I do now as well. In fact, 3 of the men in my office are Bishops. One of them is just as wooden and stiff as Mitt. He certainly has no business offering compassion to others as the main goal in his life is to make a buck and he doesn't care who he walks on to get that big house and car. The other two, are actually kind and considerate men. BUT and it's a big one, Pastors of Christian churches are learned men who have studied the Bible, have degress, it's a calling to them. Mormon Bishops are "picked" from their stakes based on money and status.

CasAccountant. Yay for Romney. What makes you think I haven't donated?

And OldMan is correct. Mormons give to Mormons. I live in Utah. In Layton, actually, and am VERY familiar with the workings of their faith. Mitt is the worst of the worst.

Layton....A woman was blogging on last week where she said the same thing. The more you donate you get to touch the "secret underwear." The more you give and touch the underpants the greater your reward later. Like I wondered...if the person is still wearing the underpants..isn't that prostitution?

                    I have no qualms about Romney going to Louisiana; he should go. It's just that I always heard that it's better to wait until emergency services get things in hand before you go so that those services needed by the victims aren't diverted to you. My concern with Romney is that he was so determined to get the photo op of being first on the scene that he didn't consider what the best way to do his visit might be. I do commend Bobby Jindahl for inviting both the President and Romney and making it clear that this is not a political moment. It seems to me that when Jindahl is putting the good of the people of his state first; he steps above partisanship and does what politicians are supposed to do;

With what information I have heard as of early this morning, everything was pretty well in hand except for the area near the dam that was in danger. Even so one mayor was said to say Romney was a bit of distraction for the emergency crews.

NY Times: That is not something you will hear Paul Ryan talk about this week at the convention, nor any of the other lawmakers who make simplistic promises about the power of slashing government spending. But the budgets assembled by Mr. Ryan and warmly embraced by Mitt Romney severely cut spending for emergency preparedness, exactly the kind of money needed in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and scores of other states for this and future storms.

Between 2010 and 2012, House Republicans forced a reduction of 43 percent in the primary grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that pay for disaster preparedness. That is $1.8 billion that will not be available for evacuation equipment and supplies, communications gear that lets first responders speak to one another, and training exercises. (House Republicans tried to cut $354 million more in this year’s homeland security spending bill, but Democrats restored the money in a conference with the Senate.)

White House, 8/25: The President today declared a major disaster exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Hurricane Isaac beginning on
                      August 26, 2012, and continuing.

CBS: Romney asked, according to a journalists' pool report of the visit: "Did the water come from the sky, or the rivers, or the ocean?"

                      Senator Reid:

“It is the height of hypocrisy for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to make a pretense of showing sympathy for the victims of Hurricane Isaac when their policies would leave those affected by this disaster stranded and on their own,” Reid said.

“If Paul Ryan and his fellow House Republicans had succeeded in blocking disaster relief last fall, there would have been no aid for the victims of Isaac today. And Paul Ryan’s budget would gut disaster funding, making it much harder to get aid to our fellow Americans in their time of need,” he added.

Romney is checking out the storm damage...I wonder if Romney can ask the republicans why they blocked this investigation that would help the south recover from th BP disaster?

                      Source www.examiner.com

Subpoena power in BP oil spill investigation blocked by Senate Republicans

Blocking subpoena power in disaster investigative commissions is unheard of. The terrorists crisis, the financial crisis and Three Mile Island commissions all had subpoena power. However, Senate Republicans gave no explanation on Monday when they blocked the Presidential Commission on the BP oil spill from having subpoena power to conduct the investigation. "These guys are in bed with the oil industry" said MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews.

Sen. Byron Dorgan D-ND said, "At a hearing that I was at we had Halliburton, Transocean and BP, all of whom were involved on this rig and this drill, and you know what they were doing is pointing at each other. Well, listen, the only way you're going to get to the real truth and find out exactly what happened is to be able to subpoena all of them and say, look, you have got to produce all of your books and records so that we can inspect them and understand what happened a mile under the ocean out there."

Protecting BP does not serve the American people, and it will not bring the truth to the millions of people along the Gulf Coast who are entitled to answers. Moreover, it is an insult to the families of the eleven men who were killed the night the Deepwater Horizon exploded. It is difficult to fathom how the Republicans can justify obstructing justice in the BP oil spill, but that is exactly what they have done. The bigger question is, how can Americans let them get away with it?

The move makes little sense, apart from Matthews conclusion which suggests that Republicans have been financially motivated to protect BP from being forced to supply the facts on what caused the April 20, 2010 disaster that killed eleven people, and polluted the Gulf of Mexico with almost 5 million barrels of oil and 2 million gallons of toxic chemical dispersant.

Moving on, China has, give or take, 3-5 trillion in US dollars in hard cash and they are coming to Canada to buy our oil with it as a down payment. It is the republican view that if you allocate money to a NATURAL DISASTER, it MUST be taken from SOMEWHERE else in the budget. Preferably form the poor, the elderly and disabled, not from the oil companies.

Obamas budget proposal wasn't voted on by democrats because they didn't have the votes to get it past the republicans. If democrats refuse to vote it's listed as a no vote. In the past neither party would bring a budget up for a vote until a compromise was reached however our current obstructionist republican party thought they'd at least make points with the truly stupid of their party by forcing a vote that wouldn't pass. Apparently it worked on you. Congratulations. Not one single democrat voted no on Obamas budget.

                      Pat

Emergency fund allocations are done per the previous years spent. Since there had not been the amount of disasters and extensive devistation as in the year of Katrina, it makes sense to cut the amount budgeted. One thing bureacrats and polliticians are good at is finding funds is finding unspent funds and spending them on something that wasn't in the budget plan. If you do not cut it back, that money will be wasted.

Besides, when we have had a larger number of disasters, congress in the past has allocated more as needed.

Your argument is really poor at best.

The name of the game is have no votes that can be used against you in an election. Without a signed to budget, how can you be called irresponsible in wasting money. The only reason the budgets were force to the Senate floor by Mitch McConnell was to force democrats to take a postion they would have to answer for in the next election. Voting for the bill containing a 1+ billion deficit would be certain political death at election time. Voting against it gives them some cover in saying they would not be that irresponsible. BUT, they still leave themselves open for attack, because if there is no spending blueprint, then you are probably wasting money.

You're misinformed, Obamas budget proposal offered 2 trillion in cuts in exchange for 2 trillion raised by eliminating some corporate tax breaks and a modest increase in taxes on the wealthy. Democrats though unhappy with the depth of the cuts were willing to accept them. Republicans only agreed to consider a budget based soley on cuts from social programs and none on military. They forced a vote to make points. Right wingers who try to portray democrats as voting against his budget are attempting to distort the truth.

Reid lies and then swears to it! He has to keep Obama in office because he might lose his job if a Republican gets elected. Does anyone ever wonder where these life long politicans make the millions they have? We don't pay them millions and yet they are all rolling in money. Where does their money come from? Do they have a budget? In Washington if you don't have a budget you can spend what you want to and print money. China will own us in another 4 years if we don't turn these politicans out of office. Fire them!

As I'm sure many liberals posting here would state the same I've never gotten food stamps, welfare or even unemployment. Unfortunately unlike you Romney is smart enough to go after the middle class. The poor doesn't have anything to take.

Our future under a president Romney.

Robber Barons were vilified for using the capitalist system to exploit workers, form anti-competitive trusts, and place the accumulation of wealth above all else. The belief that the rich could use whatever means necessary to increase their riches seemed to counter the ideals upon which the United States was founded. Muckraking journalists such as Ida Tarbell, who wrote about the abuses of Rockefeller's Standard Oil, reinforced the idea that the Robber Barons were a destructive force, a group of soulless industrialists willing to circumvent laws to achieve supremacy.

                          J. P. Morgan had started before the war, as the son of a banker who began selling stocks for the railroads for good commissions. During the Civil War he bought five thousand rifles for $3.50 each from an army arsenal, and sold them to a general in the field for $22 each. The rifles were defective and would shoot off the thumbs of the soldiers using them. A congressional committee noted this in the small print of an obscure report, but a federal judge upheld the deal as the fulfillment of a valid legal contract.

Morgan had escaped military service in the Civil War by paying $300 to a substitute. So did John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Philip Armour, Jay Gould, and James Mellon. Mellon's father had written to him that "a man may be a patriot without risking his own life or sacrificing his health. There are plenty of lives less valuable."

The Romney budget would have gutted the ability of FEMA to offer any assistance.

Wealthy individuals might have been able to flit in and out of Louisiana on their own, private airplane.

98% of the people who do not leave in advance of a hurricane fall into three categories:

#1. too poor to be able to move. They don't have transportation or can't afford to get away. This is the majority.

#2. Unable to move because of health.

#3. The truly stupid. After Katrina, with the hurricane heading toward you, no one wants to get caught in a life or death situation unless they really don't know any better. These are Republicans, which accounts for Bobby Jindal's election.

“I’m here to learn and obviously to draw some attention to what’s going here,” Romney told Jindal. “So that people around the country know that people down here need help.”

Not quite as bad as Obama looking for his 57 states? I'm sorry, maybe it's 58? Obama said he had

Folks have ya ever Wondered why just a few Billionaires are Investing Millions in Romney / Ryan.

                              It's very simple...........da G O P has a "For Sale Sign" on it.

                              One Example:

                              Let's start with Sheldon Adelson:

Adelson, 79, who is this election’s biggest spender, could see his casino profits soar if Romney’s pledge to crack down on China turns out as planned.

                              snip

If the value of the Chinese currency were higher against the dollar -- as Romney has demanded -- it would give a boost to Adelson’s bottom line. That’s because gamblers from China, who make up the bulk of visitors to Macau’s casinos, would bring the same amount of yuan for betting no matter the exchange rate, said Grant Govertsen, an analyst with Union Gaming Group. So, in dollar terms, they’d be spending more.

And ya thought this had to do helping out da Middle Class, da Poor and Seniors.....Hmmmmm.

                              You BetCha....Fer Sure.

I so wish that you were making this up; but, having lived in Massachusetts during Romney's governorship, I know all too well that this is just the tip of the iceberg.....I do wonder if Romney could be entered into the Guiness book of world records for the sheer number of two (or three or four, etc,) positions he's taken on every issue he comes up against!

The problem with “Donating” is by the time all the money, good will, etc go thru those filters called (Greed, Corruption, Waste, Mismanagement, and Delay) there is very little left for its intended purpose. Remember the Disaster Katrina, and the way the Bush Administration handled that. The famous quote, “You’re doing a great job Brownie”, as dead people were floating by.

Again love the picture. He is visiting the devastation? Looks like he is talking to a few working girls well on dry land. I see no destruction here. Are you sure this photo op was taken in New Orleans? Or outside a Walmart?

The ice and water stations are not set up in the middle of the mess they are usually at a municipal parking lot.

Obama will be there on Monday--after the emergency services people get everything under control so that personnel needed by victims of the disaster are not diverted to him as they were today to Romney.

I am aware he will be there MONDAY...Bush waited for the emergency service people to get things done too and was raked over the coals for it, you stupid libs said that was his "excuse" for not going. Why is it okay for OBUMBLER to wait but not Bush? YOU ARE TWO FACED. If O does it, it's right, if Bush does it, it's the wrong thing to do. You libs are so unbeliveable.

what they fail to mention is that the photo was taken on lawn of the LDS stakehouse (not Sizzler, but a place of woreship and basketball). He knew the club would gather for their canned goods.

I heard he was passing out coupons to "Trouble with Curves".

Big deal, how much money did he and the Horse Woman donate to the good people affected by the storm. Politicians talk a good game but when it comes right down to it, just so much wind!
