TAMPA, Fla. -- The Romney campaign planned a surprise guest to address the Republican convention here: Hollywood actor and director Clint Eastwood.
Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood speaks at the RNC Thursday, in Tampa, Fla.
But it might have been more of a surprise than they bargained for.
In a rather rambling speech that lasted for more than 10 minutes -- not delivered on TelePrompter -- Eastwood criticized President Obama, in part by conducting an imaginary interview with the president.
"It might be time for someone else to come along and solve the problem," Eastwood told the GOP audience, adding: "When somebody doesn't do the job, we've got to let him go."
The crowd ate up most of what Eastwood said, but it was an unusual address, especially at such a highly scripted political convention.
Eastwood ended his remarks by delivering his signature line: "Go ahead, make my day."
After his remarks, the Romney campaign issued this statement: "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesn't work. His ad libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it. He rightly pointed out that 23 million Americans out of work or underemployed is a national disgrace and it's time for a change."

Eastwood, delivering his speech as a Piers Morgan impersonation-
Ate Obama's lunch.
Any NBC cannot handle it.
Too bad.
Doing an imaginary conversation is basic Theatre audition fodder.
Clint just lost a lot of his artistic following.
EASTWOOD FORGET TO MENTION that GOP seniors met on Day One of Barack Obama's presidency, and pledged to block all his work to help the US economy to recovery. At the time we were losing 800,000 jobs per day, with a GDP of MINUS 8.9% (as was later discovered).
Patriotism, sedition or conspiracy? Paul Ryan can tell you, as he was there in January 2009?
Disgraceful.
Yeah. Too bad Obama will not get a call back.
hate to tell you this honey, Clint's not the candidate.
NO NO JO

Clint Eastwood is a dolting old fool. He couldn't even remember his lines.
Did you not count how many brain farts he had? He should join your fat ass Gov Krispy Kreme (Chris Christe) getting donuts at the buffet bar backstage. Clint Eastwood could use some sugar to fed his brain cells.

And the Republicans actually thought it was a good idea to put a senile old fool on stage ahead of Romney? The only thing Clint forgot to do was yell at the President to get off his lawn. That was surreal....bizarre...geeeeeezzz What a senile old fool!

GOP treason, sedition, conspiracy - or all three?
On January 20, 2009 Republican Leaders in Congress plotted to sabotage and undermine U.S. Economy during President Obama's Inauguration:
The Guest List:
Frank Luntz - GOP Minister of Propaganda
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA)
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA),
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX),
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX),
Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)
Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA),
Sen. Jim DeMint (SC-R),
Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ-R),
Sen. Tom Coburn (OK-R),
Sen. John Ensign (NV-R) and
Sen. Bob Corker (TN-R).
Mr. Paul Ryan was there.
Gosh .... Just think, America would have lost over 1 billion 22 million jobs by now if Obama had not come along .... right Backhoser?
The reality is that the recession started in December 2007, peaked in September 2008 and was officially over in June 2009.
Jobs are always a lagging indicator.
Jobs were beginning to be added (still net negative though) until Obamacare was passed.
Done deal on the recovery - 8% year after year
Pop the popcorn, this is getting good, the wheels are coming off Obama's cart. Geez Bev, take your meds, maybe make you a little less hateful!
Romney/ Ryan the end of an error
It was great. Clint pointed out the emperor had no clothes.
Clint's least 80 years young and has values. He has seen the decline in America under obama's watch, and has many years under his belt to make astute assessments in the status of this country. Clint "rambled"? No I think not. He speaks as an individual, and does it his own way, the way Americans have the right to. I applaud his confidence. He is his own man.
@ Siiya??? We talking about the same snowball? Values? WHERE? Love the guy as an actor, director - at his craft... As a man of VALUES... what on earth are you talking about???
Clint Eastwood has fathered at least seven (7) different children by five (5) different women, has been called a serial womanizer by several of these women – married two of them. His current wife, Dina Ruiz, 35 years his junior, commented after their wedding, “The fact that I am only the second woman he has married really touches me.” Guess the new missus has no problem with all the other ladies Clint really touches... While in his fourteen (14) year live-in relationship with Sandra Locke, she had two (2) abortions and ended her reproductive possibilities with a tubal ligation. She sued him for palimony and won – then had to sue him again as he was found guilty of attempting to destroy her reputation and livelihood in the acting community.
Questions beg….what the hell is running through Paul Ryan’s mind…’Mr. Rape is just another Method of Conception’??? Why the hell would Mitt Romney, all American married, family values shoved to the forefront, choose such a man, so lacking in personal character, to represent them to their party members??? Is it because Clint is one of the 1% and they move in the same circles? One of Clint’s famous quotes is “men must know their limitations”. Do you think Paulie and Mitts are really listening to anyone other than themselves?? Do you think this lack of character – tho monied – truly represents what you, the middle class, stands for?
Answers anyone? Go ahead….make my day
LMFAO!
I thought Eastwood's performance, because that is what it was, a performance, was obscene.
The financial crisis was caused by BIG business, and Romney's still trying to sell that because he's from big business, he's going to save us all. What a laugh.
If tonight is the best Romney and the GOP have to offer, I'm not buying.
The decline in America under Obama's watch??? What the Hell do you call the previous eight years under W for this country!
Crystal-I love your moniker! Where can I get one!? Tee-shirt please. bumper sticker please. What was Alfred E's slogan-"What me care?" that would be fitting as well.
GOP congressionals voted lockstep continuously against every kind of job creation. More recently, they voted 3 times against 2 million jobs in the American Jobs Act.
Via McConnell, GOP fililbustered at THREE times the pace ever seen before in American history. They did it to block our recovery, so they could blame the fallout on the President. THAT was their 'plan' for our recovery.
GOP pledged to block the U.S. recovery during a Great Recession, and THAT is what they will be remembered for -- not a hokey acting speech by Clint Eastwood.
Sorry, Just like the entire convention More misinformation by misinformed, brainwashed demagogs. Sounds better in German. Meet the new Fashist Party
Fromarizona,
Clint "Obscene"?
Never heard that one before. Did he flash you or something? Are you an american by the 14th amedment? Do you have an illegal immigrant in your family, or are you one?
Base on the libs comments about Clint, its obvious they hate old people who are no longer producing money for their freebies. Thats why obamacare has a provision to "counsel" (or convince) them to forgo treatment and die.

President Obama is not worried about you right wing nut jobs. You remarks are just one less problem to fling aside on the site; along with MYTH's LIES.
on the real stage of life clint you failed as an actor. mitt you are as stiff a board in the middle of a tree. this man mitt is a spineless fraction of a little man! a six year draft dodger during the viet nam war, and shifts his money over seas. what a spineless man. he is not a leader.
Only because doughbama's only solution involves spending more money- that's ALL he knows. His only job has been community organizing and that involves sniffing out other people's money and spending it. He would love to throw out another trillion to the wind and call it job creation, and obots would be clapping like a little girl who just got a pony.
You mean like the stock market doubling? And turning massive job losses into job growth? Turning negative GDP into positive GDP? And saving our automobile industry. It's enough to make any republican puke. And he murdered Osama bin Laden. Why hasn't he been arrested?
I thought clint eastwood was hysterical..What is wrong with a little levity from a well repected american icon? Broke up the line of serious speeches..I say go Clint!!!! And people will be quoting him tomorrow..I asssure you..This IS our america..Politician work for us..if they arent doing the job...fire them....Relax people and get a sense of humor!!
Backhoser -
Dems have had control of the Senate for 6 out of the last 6 years.
Dems have had control of the House for 4 out of the last 6 years.
Dems have had control of the presidency for the last 3 1/2 years ....
And you are telling us Obama is so pathetic and inept that he can be undone by 15 little politicians that had control over nothing - that it is their fault?
Nope America ain't falling for that crap .... we need a big boy for president.
I just trashed every movie i owned that had Clint Eastwood as a actor or director. He is a has been anyways, especially now that he came out with his negative politcal views towards President Obama.
tweetybyrd,
It was sad, certainly not hysterical and I don't think he was trying to be either!
Is Romney and Ryan in a serious bromance or what?
Did everyone catch the pic of Romney's Yacht harbored in Florida with a Cayman Island flag? Classic.
If a man had cancer, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, and then was hit by a bus, then got up staggered across the street stubbed his toe on the curb and fell over dead, Republicans would claim he died of a stubbed toe!
It appears as though Outhouse and the rest of the libtards on this board are scared of the articulation of Romney and Ryan. They have real plans and ideas, not the "hope and change" BS the obummer and soros concocted 4 years ago. Bye-bye obummer and your cronies!!!!!
Good for Clint. He said it like it needed to be said.
Obama is an empty chair.
Booby trap
Shut down your computer. You're getting pee'd on. I can see it from here. MYTH LIES.
MYTH is in the big league now pissing in his pants as he steps up to the plate.
He just can't handle it.
Barry said it himself.....
“If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”
Glad to oblige you Mr Obama
It was great. Romney did a great job. He will be a good President and what the country needs to move forward.
Wow...the libs are pissed. Must smell the defeat of their king obummer.
P.J.
For a group which champions one's own private life as just that, i.e., LBGT, you so quickly jump down the throat of and demonize one conservatives private life. You mock yourself without my help. Did you help support our country during war as Clint did? I doubt that Clint would champion the abandonment of a supreme court ruling which allows us to rid this country of criminal (illegal) immigrants. Oblunder did exactly that. I also doubt that Clint approved of Oblunder and his cohort, Mr. Calderon of Mexico, chastising and mocking one our own governors (AZ) for attempting to secure her state from illegal foreign invasion which Oblunder has refused to do. I would be shocked if Clint approved of Oblunder's pandering to Muslims and illegal immigrants simply to remain on his throne, and without any regard to the security or future of America. You don't get it. I voted for Oblunder and believed his 2008 rhetoric of hope and change. Now I have no hope, and he wants my change. This country has become its most divided and apathetic under this president since the civil war. Oblunder did this all by himself. He will undoubtedly lose this November, as he has not done the job of a president-at least in this country.
Clint, you will never be able to shine John Wayne's boots!
Sounds like GOP has major anger issues. This country has woke up and intelligent voters this time around will not vote for the HNIC to prove that they are not racists. If it makes me a racist to say I oppose those who are living here illegally, so be it. If it makes me a racist to say that black fathers need to man up and take care of their children and wives, so be it. If it makes me a racist to say English needs to be America's official language, so be it.
"He rightly pointed out that 23 million Americans out of work or underemployed is a national disgrace and it's time for a change."
Agreed, What Bush and the Republicans did was a disgrace. Now will you please, please stop trying to sabotage everything so we can move further away from the policies which caused that unemployment?
Wow....what sour grapes from NBC. Eastwood was smashing and refreshing in his originality.
And, as for Romney, it was a pleasure to hear a potential President who is reticent about the word "I."
Clint hit it out of the park tonight. He said exactly what he wanted to say and showed great ability to get his points across. The empty chair image was brilliant!
Rev AL just said it best. I agree the RepubliCONS should be ashamed of putting a degenerate old man up there.
Like Rev AL said Clint East wood should go out in dignity.
RepubliCONS live in the past. Like Chuck Todd said Republicans had a nostalgic night. They said a lot about the past

And when are you going to realize that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were running Congress from 2006 on and that Bush and Obama are two big government progressives with not a dime's worth of difference? So what's your bumper sticker: Better than Bush? We deserve better than Bush and better than Obama too. Hope and change was worth a shot in 2008...it makes no sense today.
why is it we see liberal leaning people want to see people who don't believe in socialism hanging from trees, being run over be cement trucks or talked to death by obama. and you call conservatives wingnuts?
Rhode Island....Just another liberal state where nobody can think for themselves and believe everything that nutjob obummer says.
Right wing nut job cowards collapsing post again. The truth is lethal to them. As Backhouse said;

GOP Lies,
about your posts in general:
Taken from a Rondney Dangerfield quote from "Back to school"
"He REALLY CARES-about what, I have no idea!".
Old white man, delivering a speech to old white men. There you go. Make my day Not!
This is half time in Obama's America, yep, Clint is right.
Remember that Superbowl half time show?
4 more years.
Hi Ya Bev! I'm going to the Casino see you all tomorrow maybe.
Damn! I didn't realize Eastwood is that feeble. Well, He is 80 or 81, I think. Guess that excuses His lack of coherency. Damn, I'm really sorry to see Clint piss around like He did. Someone should have stopped Him from revealing his dotage.
What a mess. These are our new leaders?
Must say it really is surprising how many of your responses beat up on Clint Eastwood, one of our elders. You obviously don't think very well of our seniors, which isn't new. What happened to civility or just good manners? He was doing a fantastic job as a "stand up" and you all couldn't handle it....sad, really sad...guess the saying "the truth sometimes hurts" hit home for you...He is so much sharper than you can ever imagine..
Well the Clint Eastwood thing backfired.
The Only Rambling, is voiced by a LAME MSNBC reporter
who has difficulty assimilating truth for REALITY.
Clint did an Excellent job in his portrayince of GUT.
Something, which is sadly lacking from the demo side.
Clint..... Great Job, Hopefully, the actual "vote" counts this time.
@ GOP lies and distortion factory. Are you copying and pasting ? You sound like you might be related to Star Sailing on here. You guys are scared that for once their might be some hope and change. Why do you want to keep holding the country back from being the best?
BB, Your sadly lucidic tone, or lack therof, supports your postion.
Please Keep speaking for the dem(onic) side.
Well done!
Somewhere backstage, Clint is still talking to the chair.
Lies:
3. Extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy (I'm not wealthy. This tax cut gave me a mortgage payment and BHO wants to keep it as well. More Dem talking point crap.)
4. Create a fictitious "war on religion" to stonewall Obama's Healthcare efforts. (Sorry but as a Catholic, Obama Care was an attack on catholic teachings and beliefs. You're wrong again.)
5. Destroy the unions by using overworked GOP catchphrases: Socialism, Marxism, Saul Alinsky ( I agree with you on this one. I like unions. If it weren't for unions 10 year olds would still be working for 50 cents/hr)
6. Destroy the environment by using the "job creation" smokescreen (Pure bull crap. Do you like paying $4+ per gal? If you do, you're an idiot. Drill baby drill. Or just tap into the Canadian pipe line that currently sells it's oil overseas because our current administration refuses to buy in.)
7. Try to repeal Affordable Health Care so it doesn't cut into their insurance company cronies' profits (And here is the point of Obama care. It has NOTHING to do with helping the poor. It's all about killing the Repubs Golden goose. The health care Ins. companies are one of the biggest contributers to the Repubs. That's the Dems driving force on Obama care.)
8. Punish women for being raped (This makes no sense at all. If a woman gets raped and gets pregnant, she has abortion options.)
9. Attempt to repeal the Dodd-Frank Act so Wall Street can steal from the American people again (Glad you brought this one up. Who do you think was most responsible for the Wall Street collapse? Why it was none other than Dodd-Frank who should be in jail for their efforts in pushing the sup-prime mortgages and to quote a mortgage broker "to any one who was breathing" Why do you think Dodd & Frank are "retiring"? They were the biggest cause of this whole fiasco. )
Mark... Once again, you must be embarrassed by the comments generated at this site, based on your article.
It would have been funny had it not been predicated on partisanship...it was embarrassing and a disgrace. We'll probably talk more about that than what Mitt Romney said and that is a sad thought. Very disrespectful to the office of the presidency...His pony show was just filled with anger...he's a has been that's still living in the 50's and 60's and doesn't get that times have changed.
Beverly in Chicago, please take obummer back. We don't want him anymore.
Clint was great, what an empty chair..
GOP LIES, you are just a sick puppy. You are upset because the truth hit home...

Clint is not used up, he speaks so much better than Rev Al the clown.
@shoregirl,
You bring up a good point. Elders. People to give pause, consideration and a voice and direction to the new generation through their passed on wisdom.
I would really like to see that happen.
Not sure anymore.
wow alot of positive comments for a left wing site.you should see the right wing sites light up.go mitt
Clint is pro-choice. I heard he has funded many abortions for his baby mommas. He has fathered numerous children by numerous women. He is a great example to put up before the nation. He fits in well with the 'forcible rape senate candidate and forcible rape VP candidate.'
Make a movie Clint!! Play pretend!! Politics is not your line.
What's obscene is having an affirmative action, community organizer (and not good one as Chicago is a sh**-hole), no business experience, voted present the majority of the time while in the Senate, no school chums, seemingly - no friends to speak of as no one seems to know anything about his past, a Socialist, anti-American, who preyed on stupidity, weakness and gullibility of a lot of people!
Now that is obscene!
Brenda1964 said;
Gee, I bet Clint would feel really bad about that!

Obama is the one that should be embarrassed! I mean, his kids will face the history books that show and prove that their dad was the most horrendous President in American history - at least up until January, 2021, after Mitt's 8 years.
What did you lefties, socialists, democrats call Reagan? A RERUN, A HASBEEN? A TELEVISION COWBOY? Did you tell him to get on his horse and leave Dodge? How ridiculous that a movie star would run for president?
Then the day after the election ................"ALL QUIET ON THE SOCIALISTIC FRONT!" You had your experiment with Obama and he proved he couldn't get along with his own party for two years and couldn't get along with a bipartisan congress for a year and a half. He is lost without a teleprompter and he will avoid all off the cuff questions or questions he doesn't have an answer for. I can't wait for the debates. There are so many questions I want to see asked. On the one hand we have a smart successful business man who has run a state government and on the other hand we have.........??????????????????
@GOP Lies and Distortion Factory WOW, WOW, WOW, you really are f()ck!ng retarded. The only empty suit I see is the one currently in the White House. This soul-less, hypocritical, socialist, lying, puppet of a President has all you liberal hippies brain washed. You talk about so much sh!t about Republicans and rich white people. You and you're beloved President are the biggest racists ever. Even more so than the KKK and Nazis. You just hide better. Every time a Republican comes along to fix a democrats mess (Reagan vs. Carter). You guys waste no time in calling Republicans old white racist trash. Funny how every time I turn on CNN I see that scumbag clown Sharpton criticizing the Republicans. It must be hard to defend that joke of a President we have huh. What did he promise you. You are the trash and filth that inhabits this great nation and you and your kind multiplied and took advantage of this nation during a difficult time and managed to get this socialist idiot elected as President. The result has been horrifying as our country is on the verge of extinction. Barack Hussein Obama a true American Patriot (terrorist).
What nonsense and rambling - ofcourse - is that you, Clint?
Thanks Clint...for making the Democrats day!
And how pathetically sad are the Democrats - we put up Chris Christie to give the keynote speech. They are putting up Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa.
Christie - a Republican in a Democratic state, who has made huge progress in getting their fiscal house in order. Who tells people the truth, even if it hurts a little. Who doesn't care about people liking him, but about America being the great country that it is - or was, until 4 years ago. And will be again once the Obama's move out.
Villaraigosa - a Democrat from a bankrupt and cesspool Democratic state. He has bankrupted the City of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles School District has a drop out rate of 60%. The infrastructure is falling apart. It's a welfare and sanctuary city. He can't speak in conversational English, even though he was born here - supposedly. And oh yeah, he cheated on his wife and totally humiliated her and his children. Gee, that's what the Democrats want to offer up as good representation of their party. How sad!
THE EMPTY CHAIR PRESIDENT!
BRAVO CLINT!
How appropriate. An empty suit president in his empty chair. The symbolism is powerful. The imagery was masterful. The result of 3 1/2 years of failure are unquestionable.
Of course the little limp-wristed Libbies panties are all bunching up because someone exposes the true identity of Barrack Hussein.

Wow, some of the nasty, nasty comments rgarding Clint Eastwood adn his speech are just ridiculous and well, done right immature. I watched thesame speech and I thouroughly enjoyed it. Clint speaks for many of his generation and for many in my generation. "Angry old man???". HELL YEAH!!! Angry that American is being trashed and destroyed by theapologizer, the annoyer, the liar in chief and damn straight sick of it!!!!!!
IN 2008 as a registered democrat I tried to support the party. I tried to give Obama a chance. I would have loved to believe in the "hope and change" that was promised. But, sadly, I knew I couldn't. Right from the start I could see Obama for the egomaniac, the inexperienced, under skilled in foreign policy, narcissictic, bull@!$%#ter he was. And after 3 and half years I know that assesment ws NOT wrong. I changed my affiliation to Independent because I didn't believe in the repub agenda either. I watched all the speeches during the Repub convention. I was impressed by many of the speakers and I found Mitt Romney to be more than I thought he was due to the BS pressed forward by the media and democratic party. I wasn't sure what I would do come Nov. other than NOT vote for Obama. Tonight I know my vote goes to Romney/Ryan.
Having a conversation with a empty chair is a perfect metaphor for the Obama administration. Seems to me the chair said more of substance in 10 minutes than Obama/Biden have in four years. Brilliant Clint!
Clint Eastwood played the roll of driftwood at the RNC... talking to an empty chair.... old, tired, and useless.. a true Republican.
Who better to represent the republicans than an old, rich, angry white guy? Perfect.
You just have to love Clint Eastwood. His comments were from the heart and not a typical teleprompter speech. He joked about Obama saying for Romney to go "%&#@ himself" just to poke fun at Joe Biden, the biggest clown of a VP in history.
Well said, Mr. Eastwood!
So President Obama was caught in a lie. The White House says the Obama's did not watch the Convention. If that is the case why did Obama twitter this seat is taken referencing Eastwoods speech as the speech was happening.
Hitler was a good speaker too and managed to bamboozelle the whole of Germany. John sounds like President Obama. Wonder if he will talk about the economy or just let people like Fluke speak.
For those that constantly harp on tax returns, don't you think that you should quit that line. If there was anything the President would have already had the damaging info via his IRS. However Harvard having a cheating scandal could be the reason the President won't release his college transcript.
Bev in Chicago/Feisty How about your teachers union striking in Chicago leaving 400k students from attending. I guess even in a liberal state like Illinois the unions still want more and more. And they will continue to take until we break them.
So much anger here.....
Ladies and gentlemen. Psych 101. People don't get angry over facts. They get angry over beliefs. We chose beliefs in the absence (or scarcity) of facts. Since we know in our hearts our beliefs are indefensible purely by facts, we defend them with emotion - and sometimes violence. We get "defensive" as if we're under attack. But a person who disagrees with you is not attacking you. This is human nature. The reason for the null hypothesis in the scientific method is to protect ourselves from this tendency.
A hallmark of intellectual honesty is to examine those things which "make us angry" intentionally considering the notion that we may be wrong. In other words, notice you're getting angry - any be curious why you have chosen to react that way. And understand your anger is not coming from this other person's statement. They simply disagree with you. You're the one who chose to take it as an attack, rather than a debate. It's from your own conflict between your chosen belief and your rational subconscious telling you it does not completely hold water.
So - if you're angry - which it seems so many people here are angry..... realize it is because in your heart of hearts, you suspect you may be less than 100% correct with your belief, and you're trying really really hard to not listen to your inner self.
So have that hard conversation with your true self, and leave the anger towards those who simply disagree with you.
I was undecided until now.....any person Clint Eastwood votes for, I'll be voting for!
I like Cult o'P's reaction. I, too, think Clint Eastwood is a great American and is an important part of our national fabric. I do not hold his being a little daffy and out of touch with what presidential politics is all about against him and can respect Cult o"s reaction. Since both candidates are fundamentally the same, and we have only the track record of the incumbent to show us that he is gaining traction, after inheriting the nuclear winter brought about by Messrs Bush and Cheney, and a promise that Romney wants America to suceed (at least that's his most recent pronouncement on the subject of which I'm aware), it seems like a coin toss, and why not go with Clint?, even though I will probably not.
I like Clint Eastwood movies. He's good at playing characters who don't quiet have a grip on society or humanity.
Well, you have to admit, Clint IS the GOP.
Old 81 years old
White
Male
and Rich, a card-carrying member of the 2%.
But I still like his movies.
Obama/Biden 2012
The Republican convention was loaded with lying speakers. Their attempt to create the appearance of diversity was laughable. Rubio is a good speaker, but his tale lacked the recognition of the fact that blacks had won civil rights he was able to enjoy as a first generation american. Ryan lied repeatedly and will destroy the heart of america. Romny is just plain out of touch. THe fact that he nevers mentions his role as Governor of Massachusetts speakd volumes. He was a terrible governor and his experience at Bain Capital engaging in vulture capitalism hardly prepares his from the presidency. What is he going to take over, another country? Well maybe. He alluded to war towards the end of his speech.
THis is not a party of the people. This is a party of naysayers and yes, many racists. The incident with the black CNN camperaperson was a golden opportunity for the republicans to speak aobut race from the podium. They did not. They appeal to a certain element and that is their intent. Women, blacks and hispanics who follow these people are difficult to understand. They are party of of white male dominance-period.

Paul Ryan’s speech in 3 words
By Sally Kohn
Published
August 30, 2012
FoxNews.com
1. Dazzling
At least a quarter of Americans still don’t know who Paul
Ryan is, and only about half who know and have an opinion of him
view him favorably.
So, Ryan’s primary job tonight was to introduce himself
and make himself seem likeable, and he did that well. The personal parts of the
speech were very personally delivered, especially the touching parts where Ryan
talked about his father and mother and their roles in his life. And at the end
of the speech, when Ryan cheered the crowd to its feet, he showed an energy and
enthusiasm that’s what voters want in leaders and what Republicans have been
desperately lacking in this campaign.
To anyone watching Ryan’s speech who hasn’t been paying
much attention to the ins and outs and accusations of the campaign, I suspect
Ryan came across as a smart, passionate and all-around nice guy — the sort of
guy you can imagine having a friendly chat with while watching your kids play
soccer together. And for a lot of voters, what matters isn’t what candidates have
done or what they promise to do —it’s personality. On this measure, Mitt Romney
has been catastrophically struggling and with his speech, Ryan humanized
himself and presumably by extension, the top of the ticket.
2. Deceiving
On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of
attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world
record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped
into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran
the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.
The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely
created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that
media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that
flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain
arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.
Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United
States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was
actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.
Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down
of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under
President George W. Bush. Ryan
actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has
criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to
prevent other plants from closing.
Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to
give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what
the president said. Period.
Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking
$716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in
Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients
out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget
plan.
Elections should be about competing based on your record
in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get
away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to
care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should
be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but
sadly, there were many.
3. Distracting
And then there’s what Ryan didn’t talk about.
Ryan didn’t mention his extremist stance on banning all
abortions with no exception for rape or incest, a stance that is out of touch
with 75% of American voters.
Ryan didn’t mention his previous plan to hand over Social
Security to Wall Street.
Ryan didn’t mention his numerous votes to raise spending
and balloon the deficit when George W. Bush was president.
Ryan didn’t mention how his budget would eviscerate
programs that help the poor and raise taxes on 95% of Americans in order to cut
taxes for millionaires and billionaires even further and increase — yes, increase
—the deficit.
These aspects of Ryan’s resume and ideology are sticky to
say the least. He would have been wise to tackle them head on and try and
explain them away in his first real introduction to voters. But instead of Ryan
airing his own dirty laundry, Democrats will get the chance.
At the end of his speech, Ryan quoted his dad, who used
to say to him, “"Son. You have a choice: You can be part of the problem,
or you can be part of the solution."
Ryan may have helped solve some of the likeability
problems facing Romney, but ultimately by trying to deceive voters about basic
facts and trying to distract voters from his own record, Ryan’s speech caused a
much larger problem for himself and his running mate.

I loved Eastwood's speech...it was great...evidently it must have hit a nerve with some of the posters here...it's pretty funny when the shoe is on the other foot.
Apparently the libs never saw Chevy Chase play Ford or Will Farrell play W.
I felt sorry for Clint. Given a few minutes, he could have come up with a REAL script. That "performance" was...... odd. AND it hurt Romney's campaign! I watched the night with friends. The Eastwood "thing" came up just before Rubio and then Romney. While the politicians speeches were more of the same (me good, other guy bad) Every one was still talking about the Clint monolog.... stating what the hell was THAT?!?
Eastwood may be the greatest macho actor in history, mainly because he can project the kind of psychopathology that would enable the character to do what Eastwood characters do.
But it could be said of him: "You didn't make that." Mainly because Sergio Leone made that.
@big bog - How is it that republickkers who accuse other people of not thinking for themselves never say anything original?
Market doubling? Dollar bill is sucking eggs, companies refuse to negotiate wage increases, debt because every ones getting paid with tax-based dollars. Job bills based on paying people with tax-dollars aren't job bills their make work schemes founded on great depression symptom cover-ups. The tripping point of debt is coming and it ain't gonna be pretty. Any one know the feds phone number cause those collection agencies are gonna need it.
I'm glad I missed Clint's act that night-- it has been rerun enough to make me sick.
Clint Eastwood should go back to the acorn castle from which he was released for the night. Clint Eastwood = Alzheimer's in Training.
http://Bruce-1628250.newsvine.com/_news/2012/09/01/13610205-romney-set-up-to-lose
The T.P Republicans want to repeal health care affordable act. Why? They consider what we have to be better? They want the Super-Rich to keep more of their fair share of taxation. Why?They consider that they are paying too much ,even though their wealth is increasing in unfair leaps and bounds. They think that they are capable of forcing their Lobyists to stop outsourcing jobs. That will never happen. The stock owners of business Outsource products to foreign manufacturers so that they can make larger profits. Do you consider that they will punish the rich who hide their profits abroad? They are the rich who hide profits abroad . Do you think that they will advance our social benifits into even the twentieth century? Wanna bet! They haven't up 'til now. If you are one of them and also greedy vote with them, but if you are an ordinary person ,ask yourselves why do I vote for the T.P.Republicans,especially Romney and Ryan.
Why?-3122622, I must remind you, everying you posted in that FAUX "News" article is a LIE! FAUX NEWS LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And he said it with a straight face having forgotten (again) to zip up his fly.
Poor Clint, his sad act of an Angry Old Senile Man Yelling at an Empty Chair Thinking it is an Uppity Black Man just plain bombed with the majority of the population. No Oscar for Clint!
He made a great point!! They work for us and when you don't do your job you are fired! The GOP said and did nothing but make sure Obama was a one term pres and that means do nothing to get this economy out of this depression that the top 1%ers greed to us to. so every GOP congressperson should be fired and some Dem to. Lets see how many get the pink slip this time
Poor Romney....I doubt if Eastwood's rambling, incoherent cranky-old-man act was what they needed to reach voters that weren't already in the bag. It was definitely a WTF moment.
It was definitely a WTF moment.
No kidding. What the hell is going on in America with this Convention? It's a disgrace.
Ten years ago, Eastwood would have never done this. Sorry to say I may have lost a little bit of respect for him. I'll still watch his old movies though. You can't take those away from him.
tony, I don't know what people saw in Eastwood. He reminds me of Gregory Peck. Both handsome men in their prime, but I could never muster up the patience to watch their movies. Dull is the only word I can think of to describe them on screen. Perhaps boring is a better word.
Pat Boston MA.
It was definitely a WTF moment.
No kidding. What the hell is going on in America with this Convention? It's a disgrace.
Yup, Pat
It's a giant political ad compliments of the Koch Bros & FAUX NEWS
MYTH just said : why should women not run government?
How about our Bodies; MYTH? Or do you think women 's bodies have a natural spermicide?
You guys are laughable- Clint makes your lib "celebs" like Clooney, Sarandon, Cher, etc look like amateurs.
I like 99.9% of your posts here Pat but,for myself,I have to disagree with you here. To me Peck's performance as Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of the great performances in one of the greatest movies of all time. I always enjoyed Peck as an actor myself.
Clint, meh. Love a lot of his movies but yeah, his acting chops were...let's just say wooden and one note. He is a damn good director however,at least in my opinion.
That performance tonight though....WOW. Ya know Clint you already had your Reagan moment when you did the "Every Which Way But Loose" flick and it's sequel and go upstaged by a simian (an orangutan to be precise...).
Tonight you were upstaged by both a piece of furniture and your own dementia. For a fan of the man that was truly painful for me to watch. Just sad.
Crystal-569996 wtf are you going on about? Clint looked like a rambling old fool that escaped from the nursing home.
that's a nice pic you took of yourself. Did you use your Smart Phone? Oh wait, that's impossible.
kennyw, I agree. Peck put in a great performance in To Kill A Mockingbird. No question about it. And I believe he won the Oscar for that role. Deservedly so.
This isn't a spaghetti western or a Dirty Harry movie. Hell, it isn't even a Million Dollar Baby moment. This is a serious thing.......the acceptance of a nomination to be president of the country and Clint Eastwood is truly old enough to know better! At the very least, he should have made some notes! He is not exactly known for speaking "off the cuff" even though he was the mayor of Carmel, CA many years ago. Yes, Carmel that veritable hotbed of mellowness. Tough job. This is a man who made his livelihood from scripts and he should have had one to assist him tonight because as "cute" as it was, this was not the time nor place for what he delivered. Stumbled the whole way through. I'll wait till his newest celluloid piece is released, I'm sure he did a much better job than he delivered tonight. Lastly, this whole"our celebrities are better than your celebrities" thing is extremely juvenile. Last time I looked, celebrities are not trying to become the next president. Well, maybe except for that crazy, has been, Ted Nugent.
Yes he did Pat. And the American Film Institute named the Finch character the greatest in American film history (they may have gone another way on a list for that since, they seemingly update it every few years...).
When he's walking out of the courtroom at the end of the trial and Jim has been wrongly convicted and all the black town folk in the gallery know that he did his best and fought from his heart and they're all standing up to do him honor and the Reverend Sykes turns to his daughter,Scout, and says..."Miss Jean Louise. Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing."
That is just one of the great scenes ever IMO.
I think you must have been watching the Biden channel- now there's a rambling old fool. The first big decision the presidential candidate makes is the VP- Obama failed and has been failing ever since. One and done then the libs can crawl back under the rock they crawled out from. buh bye
Awesome speech by Clint...Told it like it is...Promises never fulfilled, campaigning instead of doing his
job. Clint Eastwood is an honest man and I believe he "made my day"!!! Yes he surely did..
You sound jealous that Clint Eastwood gave a great performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially the part where Clint said he had tears in his eyes for the 23 million unemployed. Lets hope America can get untracked.
@Sandie
I agree it IS a serious thing (or at least it's supposed to be...) and that's what makes watching Clint make such a fool of himself tonight is so sad for me. I mean if he really thought that what he put out there tonight contributed ANYTHING that's useful of raises the level of debate in this election then I'm afraid that he's truly lost his marbles.
How about our bodies?
-millions of dead children
Questions beg….what the heck is running through Paul Ryan’s mind…’Mr. Rape is just another Method of Conception’??? Why the heck would Mitt Romney, all American married, family values shoved to the forefront, choose such a man, so lacking in personal character, to represent them to their party members??? Is it because Clint is one of the 1% and they move in the same circles? One of Clint’s famous quotes is “men must know their limitations”. Do you think Paulie and Mitts are really listening to anyone other than themselves?? Do you think this lack of character – tho monied – truly represents what you, the middle class, stands for?
Answers anyone? Go ahead….make my day
LMBO!
Well, well, well PJ, when you put it like that........I too am ROTFLMBO!!!!!! That's the Robme/Ruin repub values alright!
Bevery inChicago,
"It was definately a WTF moment"
I'd say the same about Oblunder's last four years.
Pat, the difference is that Clint did schlock movies, while Peck did "A Gentleman's Agreement" and "To Kill a Mockingbird". It's our choices that define us. Peck was far superior to Eastwood. Need I mention "Any which way be loose"? With the Ape and his Mistress that he left his wife for but never married?
Eastwood, just like the Real Life Romney has a distinguished history of being the big bully...maybe he was dealing with criminals or other unsavory types in his big time movies but now he is supporting the bullying of your grandmothers and grandfathers. Who will pay for the nursing home when medicaid is no longer there...do you even know what it cost, do you have that kind of resources available to you? If you do, you are among the 1% or the very few who have had an opportunity to succeed where so many are failing...so what do you do Clint??? kick them all to the curb???Great way to think but then again, you are among the 1%'ers, aren't you. How about those tax breaks for the wealthy costing the middle class additional tax burdens with fewer services for the dollars we are forced to pay while those wealthy people get a further reduction in taxes far exceeding our entire annual salaries by double or triple, I fail to see the justice in that one. Clint is a successful actor and that is good for him, I will not fault him for finding success...but I do not feel he could possibly have any influence on my perceptions of Mitt Romney, I base those evaluations on what the man has said, on his flip flopping of the issues depending on who he is addressing, and I have heard him make statements that I am sure are false and misleading. I could not support anyone who represents himself as Mitt Romney has done. If he speaks your kind of truth, go for it and do what you feel is right as will I.
Crystal, don't waste your time. If you criticize Obama in any way, you will get nothing but mindless insults from brainwashed followers. I don't care for Romney myself, but he is the lesser of two evils. There is a lot that scares me about the prospect of BO being re-elected, but the worst is the probability he will try do away with the 2 term limit. He doesn't want to be president, he wants a dictatorship. Hopefully his worshipers will wake up before the Kool-Aid is served.
Glad you're doing so well. I'm not, just lost my job two weeks ago. I deserve that more than you do. Obama will make sure I get it.
Eastwood was havin' a Mirapax Moment, sad to see the guy like that!
I was going to vote for Obama until I read how hateful these comments are. I will not support any group that preaches tolerance and spews hatred. How very sad it is, the Democratic Party I grew up in has mutated into party of hate and intolerence.
I felt bad for Clint ... And I have been a fan of his since his first "Spaghetti Westerns" This appearance was not one of his better moments .. his rambling & loss of thought were very pronounced ... a bad night for the Republicans ...
When Richard Nixon was nominated they ran a tight ship ... no one would have spoken without first submitting a draft copy & a markup would have be sent back ... to be followed .. No surprises to have to cope with ... and a concerted message ...
Romney in my opinion lost a lot tonight ... the kind of loss that is hard to recover ... just the opinion of a old man ..
Somewhere backstage, Clint is still talking to the chair.
I enjoyed Clint Eastwood tonight. He made his points very well. His voice seemed a bit weak and I assumed that he might be overly tired-but his message was clear and to the point. He added a little humor and a smidgen of satire which I think went over some peoples heads as they classified this as rambling. For those of us who caught the message and overlooked his weak voice-the message itself was to the point and funny. I am glad he was the mystery guest as I have always been a fan of this man. I am a moderate and will be making up my mind soon -which of the two candidates that I will be voting for. I enjoyed the RNC and I thought everyone presented themselves well tonight. I will be watching the DNC when it airs also.I just wish that people on the posting boards would stop bashing each other -as this will not bring any voters over to your side. Maybe they enjoy bashing each other though-who knows? Voters will make up their own minds without anyones comments swaying them. May the best man for our country win-period. Good night.
Islander Chef. Get real. Really? You have never read the endless tireless comments by the TP/Republicans. Talk about hate. Hate for just about everything.
Politics has gone a different route in this election process. But, I still keep Wishing we could all get along to solve the issues of what is right not defaming anyone for a step up. Because, many people will remember those words used and lose respect, plus any help, those people may need on down the road. I am voting for none of the above!
Islander Chef,
Who the F are you KIDDING with this wha-wha BULL? I WAS gonna vote for Obama, now I'm not because I read some hurtful words on this page. .Really your gonna tell me your basing you one in 4 year vote on THIS TREAD??? GO TO BED DUMB DUMB!!
Clint was true. True to himself, and true to us.
The gaff(s) spoken about are simply due to the subject matter ie obama.
I say, this is a BLATANT OBSCURATION by Liberal Media of actual fact.
NBC??MSNBC/ You are WORTHLESS.
Shame on YOU NBC for your lame attempts at skewing this election like it happened in 2008.
Shame on YOU NBC.
Let's imagine a world where people are nice to each other and don't insult and call each other names just because they disagree about something.
Let's imagine a world where people on both sides of the aisle seek the truth and work together to solve out problems.
Let's imagine a world where a legendary actor does not put swear words into the mouth of an imaginary Obama he thinks is sitting in a chair next to the podium in front of a national audience at The Republican National Convention.
How about two out of three?
@no joe no bo nj
funny how the dems on this site silence your comment by collaspings them...is that what Obummer has planned for those of us who disagree with him??? obummer is one scary guy.
Lennon died.
I was entertained by Clint...and he made some pertinent statements...Give me a break and lighten up.
Hopefully his worshipers will wake up before the Kool-Aid is served.Rene278
Oh for godsakes the only evils in this country is the person who is feeding this crap to you about Obama. Now you can say "we" are not bigots, but I have never heard such malarkey about a President until President Obama was elected.
What makes you think he wants to be a dictator and if he did what makes you think he wouldn't be one by now, I mean everyone (not everyone in my circle) says he is a muslim, don't you think they would have come to his aid by now. Some Americans, treat Muslims, awful, just plain awful. They have forgotten what the Constitution & the Bill of Rights say about equal treatment, freedom of religion & freedom of speech for Muslims.
Oh I have better things to do - like fold socks.
An 82 year old actor has an opinion just like anyone else, but that doesn't mean I'll be influenced by it. Eastwood has made some great movies, and had a distinguished career, but that doesn't qualify him to judge politics any more than Ted Nugent is qualified. Great of Eastwood to speak, but he was entertainment, not a credible endorcement.
WE AGREE!! Mr. Obama it is time to pack up your belongings and allow us to put someone in your place who; will hopefully, be able to clean up the mess that your have enlarged over the past years.
Look, I don't care what party Eastwood belongs to or which side he was trying to help. What I saw was someone rambling and venting, and I was embarrassed for him that he has come to a point where he stands in front of so many people fumbling for words. If he had something to say he could have written his heartfelt words and at least appeared on track and not fumbling to ask questions to an empty chair. I don't care whose convention it is...get a script so you don't seem as if you have lost your way onto a stage and are making stuff up that happens to come into your head.
And Islander, if you vote for presidents based on what people say on message boards, then you have no clue what voting is all about. Go read right-leaning boards. Come live in my area (south) where if you don't vote "right" and go to the right church you get called names and treated like some kind of outsider. Then come back and try to tell us you can't vote for any candidate in a thread who happens to have some rude posters. Are you by any chance aware that candidates aren't writing these posts and aren't responsible for what is written? Your post is one of the silliest I think I ever read here.
Read, go read some other stories and the comments after them. Really, I'll introduce you around my town as a Democrat and they'll show you what "hate and intolerance" (I spelled it right for you in my quote) really sound like. Hope you have some tough skin. Oh, and by the way? One reason Republicans keep getting elected in my state isn't because there are no Democrats, but because they get bullied or treated like crap, verbally attacked and worse sometimes because they aren't Republicans, so they tend to go about their business and not announce their political views. I hope that changed since no one should be bullied for religion or political choices, but please, don't try to tell us you vote for the candidate with the sweetest poster on message boards. If you do you don't need to be voting anyway.
you people telling clint your not going to watch his movies anymore or do not like him anymore, kind of a waste of time isnt it.i really dont think clint is going to read these comments.lol
That's all you need to know about the Romney/Ryan Campaign!
Sad truly sad
Three days of not a word about our vets.
America is still at war.
well msn & most of their followers didn't let me down and showed their true left wing colors by being so cruel and distorting the truth, Clint might have rambled a little - but everything he said was true Big Ob cannot stand on his record of failures and can only be negative-he does not care for the American and his owns words in his says it all- He will stand with thepeople who oppose America- Read his books!!!!!!!
Thank you Sandy, My husband is out there. We need to stop these wars but I'm not going to hold my breath. I have to believe the government wants to stop it as much as I do. I just have to believe that.
I have been a fan of Clint Eastwood for a very long time. However, his rambling and confusion while speaking tonight reminded me of my mother when she had difficulties with early onset dementia...
More likely than not, some, if not all, of the Obama bashing is misplaced. Republicans in both houses of the U.S. congress have played a major part in blocking his programs. Mr. Romney failed to mention that.
Conservative Republicans do not grasp the significance of teamwork, and how it is necessary to move our country forward.
@ sandy
Exactly what I was thinking, I thought maybe I missed it. We're at war and mitt the twit doesn't even mention our troops? I didn't hear him mention the other big news of the day which is people losing their homes and property to Issac while he's having a party. This guy doesn't give a damn about anybody but himself. The military supports repulsivecons why?
Clint was a plant by the left. Clint supports a womens right to choose, Clint doesn't support the war in the middle east, Clint believes in and supports efforts to combat global warming. We sent Clint in to tell romney to go f himself, and he did.
"When somebody doesn't do the job, we've got to let him go." Yes we will.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 for real Americans
Clint Eastwood comes out!! Sounds like a gay awakening somehow!! I suspected he was probably right wing conservative, but now his early movies have a new meaning to me.. Self-aggrandizement, macho, show-off and money hungry. It all makes sense now. The Dirty Harry movies were really just movies to make him look good and law enforcement look corrupt. His acting was all self-centered. His later movies got better, but now I see he's still just a right wing conservative with old-fashioned rationale.
It's okay to be old-fashioned, it's just the old-fashioned rationale that makes you look like a lamb following the sheep. You have to grow, and if you're just one of the sheep, you're not truly the American Individual you could be if you tried!
It is sad to see a major talent make a fool of himself in friont of a huge national audience.
The biggest laugh to me was when Eastwood went after lawyers "ever being President". Isn't he awae that Romney is a lawyer ? His vulgar treatment of 'putting nasty' crude words in Obama's mouth was a new low in disrespect.
Then Romney's boring, self agrandized, speech put me to sleep. I'd give his speech a C- very average, and certainly not a home run out of the park. Romney is a nice rich white guy, he doesn't have any idea of how ordinary people live.
I find it inconceivable that all people can do is find fault with people that may not agree with them, it seems like liberals can only find fault with everyone, but the failing Government, failing USA, the trashing of the constitution. Cling Eastwood spoke because he loves our country, he did not have a script, and spoke from his heart, he was not rambling, he is not a youndg man anymore, but he said what he believed in, and that is what used to be a wonderful place to be and live. LOOK FOR THE POSITIVE AND MAYBE WE CAN FIX THE MESS THIS COUNTRY IS IN. why use anger your platform, tell us what the current administration has done for this country and others around the world that are failing. What has improved over the last three years? WAKE UP AND OPEN YOUR EYES AND HEART, SEE THE BEAUTY AROUND YOU NOT THE UGLY.
Wow, the whiners are out in droves tonight! hahaha He must have struck a cord and you must be worried for so many of you to be on here crying!!! You know he is right and you are SCARED! He is right, there are many more conservaties in Hollywood they just aren't all loud mouths! Thats ok its the votes that count not the blowing off!!! You can all start the real crying in November and saying how your moving to another country and blah blah blah, if Romney wins! Go ahead and start the crying that someone can't vote for there dead family members and you can't vote two and three times and least we forget that you cry because you didn't even register to vote or you didn't know which precint to vote at! If your party wansn't so good at whining and lieing Obama wouldn't be in the White House right now! Oh yeah, I'm sure you will be saying everyone in the U.S. is racist if he doesn't win reelection but remember, it took more than one race of people voting to elect him in the first place! Way to go Clint! Love you then and love you even more now!!!
CLINT NEEDS SOME REST!
I happened to land in the middle of Mr. Eastwood's performance last night. Allow me to give you a different perspective...and not just because I plan on voting for the President in November...
I tuned in to the convention only to see an elderly man talking to an empty chair. No explanation of who he was supposed to be talking to...possibly an "imaginary friend".
From a 4-year old, that looks cute. From an octogenarian, it looks like dementia...and it looks like the Republican Convention jumped the shark.
By the way, did anybody else catch the moment where Mr. Eastwood said, "...whether your a Democrat or a crook...um...Republican..."?
Bad first point there Clint, maybe you should have asked Mitt how many of those 23 million jobs he personally sent overseas or is responsible for losing. How about those taxes breaks for the rich, guess that is "creating" jobs as we speak huh? Why are we in this mess then? Stick to acting Clint since logic is not your thing. If you really cared about all those out of work people then you would not be up on that stage, the only reason you are on that stage is for yourself. Oh that was acting...
I am not the greatest public speaker, but I would expect an actor like Clint not to sound like some of the athletes out there. Uh, um, eh, uh, you know, eh, uh, eh, uh, um, uh, uh, you know...
Nice "leaked" surprise btw, to bad it still did not help out your ratings though. I wonder why?
This for Pat in Boston - Gregory Peck is my hero - married one woman - played extraordinary rolls - Twelve O'Clock High - To Kill a Mockingbird - Gentlemen's Agreement - Spellbound - Roman Holliday should I go on versus Clint Eastwood - married five wives - fathered seven children - by the way where are they today?
And OK Clint Eastwood lost it didn't they know it before - why not Jon Voight - he is a real right winger?
Old 'Dirty Harry' needs to get his facts straight. He said there are 23 million unemployed Americans? Not according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
I am so sick of your lies, conservatives. Actors pretend for a living, and so does the GOP.
As for Eastwood, he has joined the ranks of the loonies, along with such 'luminaries' as Charleton Heston and Jon Voight. Clint, consider yourself unemployed in my book. I will never watch another one of your productions or roles.
Hey, you're a one percenter! Hired any unemployed workers lately?
Old scumbag.
I felt a great sense of shame on behalf of my country. What got to me was the plethora of lies and exagerations from many of the speakers.
Eastwood was a farce as intended. Is he moving on to do standup?
I guess people on the right have ignored Bush's contribution to the waste of our treasure and sacred lives and the disgrace we see in the House of Representatives who's leader was proud to say that all they were into from the day Obama became president by an overwhelming margine, that their goal was to do nothing to help this country in time of great need but to get him out of office as a one term president.
I'm thinking perhaps we deserve what The Romnie bunch will do to us should they win.
Pippo.... you're probably right. If the voters in this country can't or won't see through the hypocrisy of the right wing then they deserve what they get. The problem is, we will go down with them.
Obama/Biden 2012
NOT. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data on unemployment disagrees. I'll trust them over Eastwood, thanks.
As for the empty chair, the rumor was that an Obama impersonator was slated to be at the convention with Eastwood. Apparently that was going too far, even for the GOP.
Not to keep harping on this point, but I think it illustrates very clearly how Republicans do math:
They take the total U.S. population, about 300 million, and multiply it by the unemployment rate, 8.3%, to come up with a figure of 23 million unemployed.
Hello!? Who flunked basic math here, Mr. Romney? Do Republicans (like Gingrich stated) want kids to work? Do they want to do away with retirement and have us all work until the day we die? They are not counting working-age adults only, they are counting everyone, babies and octogenarians, in their "23 million unemployed'... and that is either STUPID or it is a LIE.
Or perhaps it's both. They lie to us, hoping WE are all stupid enough to believe them.
I'm tired of their lies! When is the media going to call them on this?
Dept. of labor is cooking numbers to help Obama. The real unemployment is 14%. By the way most of the places where previous Governor where Democrats, and now Republicans , the unemployment is below the national average. most of them did without raise taxes.
Independent and undecideds will think twice before to vote for Obama again, not hard core Democrats /Liberals , they will vote for Obama anyway even if he is taking us in the wrong direction, just wait a couple of weeks you will see Romney will surpass Obama in every poll , Obama is desperate to show a wrong image of Romney , many woman after listen what Romney did in Massachusetts , giving to them more high level positions, in contrast with Obama , who has the appositive record, they will change their mind too..
Romney is a real deal, Obama was the product of marketing. Nice wrap but empty inside.
I'll be happy to have a beer with Obama but when I need someone to get things done , I'll look for Romney
Romney / Ryan 2012
Not exactly sure what planet you're living on. Yes, it started in 2007, but there are many indicators that tell you that we are in a recession and have never come out of it.
A recession is typically defined as 2 consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. But what really defines a recession - a newspaper headline or watching how people in this country are suffering to make ends meet.
Every President at some time in their service has had some form of recession. Recessions in America have lasted an average of 10 months under those former Presidents, and here we are after almost 4 years and little or no recovery in site. President Obama owns this economy and its time he steps up like a man and admits he doesn't know what he's doing or how to fix it.
It would be nice that at the convention next week that he admits his failure and turn the nomination over to Hillary.
82 years old...I was just entertained and glad Hollywood could come out and tell it like it is! Where are the rest of you? Lighten up people!
Just another example of why actors should NEVER dabble in politics. This was truly sad, to see someone I admire drinking the Kool-Aid of lies from the Republican party. I thought higher of him, to be capable to see through the BS, cuz Clint's that kinda guy. Boy, was I wrong....my bad.
Watching it, I came to reflect on how common this is. It seems to me that frequently the discourse within this whole nation can be categorized as talking to a chair. Effectively, a form of megalomania, a belief in our own omnipotence, if you will.
It's hard to say he gave an unscripted speech when he brings a prop with him.
An empty chair which the President is saying "Go *** yourself" over and over for half of your speech kinda clues me in you may have rehearsed this a little Clint. Unless you always leave the house with your kitchen chair.
What Republicans Say:
Chris Christie - On Aug 28, 2012 Tampa, used the word "Truth" 16 Times in his keynote speech at the RNC convention. And he specifically said this…

What Republicans Do:
Romney pollster Neil Newhouse stated: "We're not going [to] let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers." ... on the same day as Christie's speech, during an ABC News/Yahoo! News event at the RNC Convention. ABCNews.com
Then Paul Ryan Spoke:
and Fox News contributor Sally Kohn had this to say about Paul Ryan's convention speech on August 29th, 2012

Heres a little somthing I found on Foxes web site
Paul Ryan’s speech in 3 words
By Sally Kohn

Da Noid
Now why would anyone be concerned about the perspective from someone calling him/herself "DaNoid"?
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 for real Americans
kaybeetoys
OH GOOD GOD!!!! Another one.
Please learn some basic calculation skills.
You DON'T multiply 300 million by 8.3%.
You multiply 150 million, which is the estimated workforce, by 8.3% and you get the number of people UNEMPLOYED. Which is approximately 12.5 million people.
However, the true UNDER/UNEMPLOYED rate is about 15%. Multiply this by 150 million of the workforce and you get about 22.5 million people who are UNDER/UNEMPLOYED.
Now you can stop harping, right?
Try to keep up kaybee.
ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 for real Americans
Wow, that was a bizarre episode! Another wasted evening of Television. I predict cancellation:
Clint Eastwood does his moth-eaten old "comedy" routine of talking to an empty chair,
followed by Mitt Romney's tiresome portrayal of an empty suit.
My fault. I knew I should have watched those 'Seinfeld' reruns. Drat!
Sorry...I'll believe the the Bureau of Labor Statistics, thanks. Who are you and why should anyone buy your figures?
Bruce-1628250 FAUX NEWS LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OLD, DRIED UP CLINT could have had three chairs on stage, one for himself, one for Willard and another for Lyin Ryan!
ALL THREE ARE WASHED UP, EMPTY, BLOVIATING IGNORAMUSES!!!
Presidend Obama will win by a landslide!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
ROMENY 1040!!!! WE STILL WANT TO SEE YOUR TAXES!! TRICKY DICK WILLARD!!!!
Gotta admit, Rubio is a good speaker.
Hitler was a good speaker too and managed to bamboozelle the whole of Germany.
Just like Romney's attempting to bamboozle the whole of America.
And Obama is a good speaker and managed to bamboozelle the United States. It's okay though, because there are enough people that have woken up from their stupor and Obama will be shellacked in Nov.
Not a lot different than Obama in his 2008 campaign? To each his own. I watched Eastwoods speech and found it funnier than heck. But after all's said and done, he made the point. Our President has not done a good job, he should be replaced.
Yes, telling people what they want to hear and then delivering something else. We just lived through nearly four years of broken promises.
Everyone smart knows that the first person to mention Hitler or the Nazis in this type of forum automatically loses. Hmm. Maybe you don't know. Now you do.
Rubio put down every single person in the service industry along with every other hard working American. The only way to happiness is to be above that kind of work? What a slob.
Romney adapted his personal motto from Lincoln, "You can some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time and that's good enough."
They Built this! All the lies all the rhetoric. The National Debt. Two unfinanced wars. Medicare Prescription drug plan that does nothing to lower costs. Tax breaks to billionaires and corporations..They built that.
John you may not know how close to being right you are.
If these two corporate criminals, Romney and Ryan, are elected they will bankrupt the middle class and the Oligarchy (whereas a very small percentage controls the bulk of power and wealth) will only get stronger. Then Americans will know what can be witnessed in many third world nations: poverty breeds a brutality unlike anything the middle class here can't conjure YET. Then all bets are off.
Oligarchy always precedes fascism. The racism in America is getting hot. If it's hot enough to get these two disasters in office, Woody Allen's quote about the atrocities in WWII may come true: "Unfortunately, records were made to be broken."
I hope decency wins this November.
Rubio did not - I repeat - did not - bring anything to the table,
other than,
"sure glad that damn raft didn't sink!"
@Shirley
HA HA lol, no wonder you dems are so lost, "did not bring anything to the table", maybe his speech just fell on your deaf ears.
Obama is a good speaker as long as he has a teleprompter. But when he's on his own he says ta instead of to and uh, uh,uh, quite often as well as "you know" all the time. Caroline Kennedy got crucified by the press for saying uh and you know but not our prez. Afterall he's the most interesting man in the room except when he said for the first time recently he was the 5th or 6th most interesting person in the room.
And you need some hearing aids!
I do not need a hearing aid I heard from the begining our only goal is to make Oboma a one term pres. also the party of NO is heard every day loud and clear NO to every thing he has tried to do to help our country.
This is for Bright Beautiful we have three parts of Government - the House of Representatives - the Senate and the President
We did not elect a King - wish we had - but if you have a House that blocks everything you want to do then game over
And if the House sends the Senate a budget with a poison pill in every budget - like eliminating Obama Care - then game over
Bright Beautiful your recourse is to vote these people out and then see how we move this country forward - until then - a President can only sign a bill that doesn't hurt you or I
And if you don't know how government works you flunked Civics 101
Wow... "OLD WHITE MAN speaks at GOP convention."
Shocker.
What a monumental TeaEmbarrassment that goofy, lowbrow schtick was, eh? When in doubt, the Repubs always feel compelled to go 'cowboy'. Why is that, anyway? Some kind of vicarious he-man complex, perhaps?
Sorry, Clint, but your day has long-passed. And now your shuffleboard buddies are getting cranky - better get back to it ol' fella. But, hey, at least The Donald didn't spoil the GNOP show with his latest hairdo. I hear he dyed it Elephant Rectum Red...
Ummm, Barbara - the 'three parts of government' are Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Where did you learn your Civics 101, sweetheart - Texas?
Geezus, I like his movies but that was pathetic. Time to hang it up, Harry..
@zflynn The middle class is already being bankrupted by Obama. Where the hell have you been the last 4 years? Obama in 4 years has increased the national debt more than Bush did in 8. Who the hell do you think is gonna have to pay for that? Get some facts. The top 50% of wage earners in this country pay 97% of all the income tax payed in a year. The top 10% of wage earners pay 50% of all taxes. Funny thing is, even if you take 100% of what the top 10% of wage earners in the US make, you would still run a deficit. I know you liberals are more interested in punishing the rich than you are in actually making the government spend within its means, but the path we are on is not only going to bankrupt the middle class, its going to bankrupt the entire nation. Maybe instead of all Liberal Arts classes in college, you should have taken some economics. The only way out of this is to cut spending, and grow the economy, both things that Obama has proven inept at.
I thought Eastwood was GREAT!!!! I've always been a fan---but now I like him even more.
Right to the point. How can anyone say he was disrespectful. Our current President disrespects our country every single day.
The empty chair represents a President who is missing in action.
Right on Clint---I loved every minute of it.
You are right. The current administration did increase the national debt. Unfortunately, you conviently left out the reason why this had to be done. Let me get you up to speed. Bush left an economy shredded by greed, waste, and oppulence. We were in over our heads and Bush HAD to sign a stimulus package on his way out the door. The first in a line of several that we HAD to push through in order to keep this Country from collapsing. Many of you do not know and never will understand just how close we came to complete and utter meltdown, because the debt was pushed up to pump money into the economy to keep banks from collapsing, schools, parks, social services from ending (like police and fire depts), and all of the other services we ALL use but ignore the operating cost to run them.
So yes, you are correct. The National debt went up. But what if it had not. Would you really want to suffer the consequences from Bush's pathetic governance for eight years and be poor and broke?
Barbara, the three parts of government are the legislative, the judicial and the executive, not the house, senate and the president. My gawd no wonder you people vote for the biggest con men on the planet.
As for Clint, I truly think this was a slam to republicans, or he really is losing his sanity, that was just sad, I couldn't watch it for more than a few minutes, it's like he has "old timers" disease or something.
In all fairness folk, the people don't understand. Rabid supporters on either side are not willing to consider that they may have to manipulate fact and ignore other fact to have their world make sense. The fact that the whole convention is based on "we built it" is a perfect example. It is a twisting of what the president said and meant to suit what the right wants to believe. The right wants to believe Obama is an anti-american, capitalist-hating muslim foreigner who think the government built your business. Now, accepting that many on the far left have the same over-the-top view of the right wing (ie. corp. american and the oil/religion industry) none of what the right thinks is correct and they have based the whole "we built that" thing on what they want to believe Obama stands for. In fact, Obama's point was very accurate and very pro-American. He simply said, and this makes a lot of sense when you think about it, that the infrastructure of this country, built with the combined efforts of the people with their pooled money is what has created an environment where a person can work hard and their business, through hard work will prosper. To warp that is defeating for both sides and the whole country. A perfect example, especially for you right wing xenophobes who are afraid of going anywhere outside of the US (generalization but fairly earned by most of them) I know someone in Antananarivo Madagascar who's business (exporting minerals) fell apart because the constant storms and the finacially brooke populace where powerless to fix the sad one lane highway from the capital to the port of Tomasina where things could be exported. That is a small but valid example of what Obama meant. That guy in Madagascar could bust his frickin ass all day and work every minute to build his company but without an infrastructure, provided by the pooled efforts of an affluent and rising populace....its all for naught folks. None of you, right or left, are going to ever get anywhere unless you step back, wash off the sound bites and the warped facts and see the whole thing through a prism of common sense.
First, let me remind everyone I am extremely conservative. Second, I have always loved Clint Eastwood and when I saw he was going to speak I thought "this is going to be awesome!!". Within 3 minutes I thought "I am watching a train wreck before my very eyes............".
What were they thinking? Giving an 82 year old the ability to "Improv" less than an hour before the presidential nominee was going to be introduced? Did anybody ask to see what he is going to say? Did anybody ask why he needed a chair?
Don't get me wrong - a well scripted speech by Clint Eastwood would have been so impactful. With his raspy voice tell the american people we need a new direction. A president must be a leader and sometimes a president has to make tough decisions. Obama can't or doesn't want to. Mitt Romney has in the past and can in the future. A well written speech would have been awesome. But a rambling, "where are you going with this", "off the cuff", talk to a chair, and go out and say whatever is on your mind was NOT what we needed at that time. I literally got nauseous towards the end of Clint Eastwood's "speech" hoping someone would come out clapping their hands and saying "thank you Clint Eastwood!!" as you get him off the stage.
Clint Eastwood, I think you are great - but you can't be allowed to just "say whatever you want to say".
starfox7000 of course they leave out the reason. It would kill their argument. Bush and Reagen both piled onto the debt but they did it in bubble/boom times. To subscribe to the "Obama is a commie who hates small business" idea you have to ignore the behavior of what the GOP actually does. You must have a five minute memory. Right wing supporters, with a republican in office will blame the previous dem. president for handing them a problem that needs to be fixed and will wax on an on about how economies lag two to three years behind the causes and then just forget all of that when they are focused on getting the current dem out of office. Keep in mind, if they did not adopt the posture that Obama is a failure and then attack him for pointing out that it was 8 years of Bush/Big business policy that drove us off a cliff, even a few of their own stalwarts would probably start to wonder. What you are being asked to forget, when they act as though Obama is a failure for having to deal with a financial nightmare created before he got into office, is that what they are trying to get you to elect is what brought us what we have now from several years ago. If you sit down and look at a timeline of GOP comments and talking points since 1976 to now, you will see that they change they attack/agenda routinely in an up and down pattern all the way to today. They preach whatever is opposite of what is actually happening. Trying to ignore that where we are right now is not because big money and wall street ran the Bush administration is self-dellusion based on wanting to believe what you want to believe at the expense of reality.
Sorry, I am on a soap-box today but Pro-Business' avatar above is such a perfect example of what I have been describing. Right and left, people are so focused on distortion and elaborately built platforms based on misinformation that they ride around with their hair on fire beating it with a stick to put it out. They get all wired up, just like the 50s-80's when everyone was sure the commies were coming to get us. It was a mostly made up issue. The military and tech sectors (not to mention all of those jobs building subs, planes, missles, etc the government didn't provide) made out like bandits and we all ran around screaming and yelling and trying to avoid the incoming soviet missles that weren't coming. That is what is going to today. No soviets so the GOP uses "internal socialists who hate america!" Conveniently forgetting that Obama is focused on major corporations and multi-millionaires who pay almost no taxes, the right wing has converted this argument into "Obama hates business...he hates small business owners and he is coming to take it all away from you so the government can do it". Seriously folks? Lets just forget that there isn't a shred of evidence to support that....seriously? You really believe that even though he says he wants a strong middle class in secret he is really out to take all your money and make you a socialist pauper....that is what you believe? Seriously...? Come on. Even I don't think the top 40 donors who provided 95% of the money to the superpacs sit around like evil villains in a Batman movie talking about how to take over the world...they have convinced themselves that what they have must be preserved and they will do whatever to convince themsleves that their destructive way of keeping it is in the best interest of the country when the past 40 years of growing inequality and bubbles and bursts clearly indicates it is not. But the power to believe what we want to believe frequently trumps common sense...think about that before you call Obama a "socialist". Go read the definition of a socialist and then find anything Obama has done that feeds that definition. Its is absurd and you need to think before you adopt stances based on self-interest.
Steven: Why is it that whenever we question the competence and ability of Obama liberals must always resort to Bush/Reagan/"fill in the blank". It's almost as if you are saying "Yes, Obama sucks but doesn't suck as much as ___________". How in the world can THAT be a reason to vote for Obama again?
The question is simple: Has the CURRENT president done a good enough job to where another 4 years are earned. George Bush doesn't matter. Ronald Reagan doesn't matter. Sasquatch doesn't matter. This is a question of the competence and ability of Obama. If Obama has accomplished anything he should simply list out what he has done, tell the American people they are better off than they were 4 years ago, and will continue to make their lives better over the next 4 years. But he can't. Let's look at his "accomplishments":
1) Unemployment STILL above 8% (currently at 8.3%) and RISING.
2) Stagnant GDP with the last quarter at 1.7% (long term average has been 3.3%)
3) 1 in 7 on Food Stamps (highest percentage since the program started)
4) 1 in 6 in Poverty (highest percentage since the 70's)
5) 50% of recent college graduates cannot find a job in their field of study
6) lowest labor participation rate since the 70's
7) highest percentage unemployed for more than 6 months since the Great Depression
This president has been a FAILURE by ANY measurement. So how do liberals defend the above catastrophic results of the Obama Administration? Even though they controlled the Executive and Legislative Branches for two full years Obama uses the excuse "Yes the economy sucks but not my fault - Republicans won't work with me". Then that simply proves you are not a leader.
A leader knows how to work with people and compromise. If you can't work with Republicans then why should we reelect you? You don't have leadership qualities and the next four years then will not be any different anyway? If that is the case then let's try someone who HAS been a leader before. Someone that HAS been able to work with both parties. You don't let a CEO stay at a company if he is not a leader and cannot communicate with the company and you don't let a PRESIDENT stay in office if he is not a leader and cannot communicate with other party and the people.
There is no excuse for the catastrophic results of the Obama administration. So quit blaming George Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Sasquatch for your failures. We needed a leader in 2008 but Obama turned out to be a follower. Wait for the polls to find out what he should do. That is pathetic. Obama had four years and failed. Time to try someone who HAS a record of leadership and HAS a record of success.
The Republicans are all for a senile old ranter. No surprise really. :)
ProBusiness I am not saying Obama is the best. And why do you insist I am liberal? My nickname in high school was Steven P. Keaton as in Alex P Keaton from family ties. I am an ardent Eisenhower Republican. You make a perfect expample of all my points. You throw around the term liberal as if it immediately invalidates points. The right and left are equally buried in a broken system. I am saying that you are attacking Obama for spending in a downturn but you express little (or if you were upset there is never any very vocal outrage when the GOP president is spending at will) concern for it when a republican president does it. Your numbered points are fact (mostly) but while you looking at the results, you are faily to see the cause. This country has been growing slowly weaker and weaker since 1980. We pump up but each time it is with fewer and fewer manufacturing jobs and an increasingly wealthy top crust which gears the entire system to keeping them wealthy. All the while, while they keep more and more, things are crumbling in the center. They hang on...credit debt...one bubble...housing values...the next bubble...but each time we get weaker and weaker and now Romney and his boys want to get in there and double down. Obama is the lesser or two evils...I only support him because there is no other option and he is less harmful. But I also see (and no I am not liberal) he has faced a WHITHERING resistance at every front from a group who supports Romney's cancerous model for the american way ahead. I am not here to debate his success or failures. I am here to point out that no one is going to get anything done until we accept what is causing the problems in the first place and it is not a socialist plot trying to make the country dependent on government. You have demonstrated exactly the point I made. You cannot see past the foundation level...you have all the facts set out but you can't get past the fact that the commies are trying take away your freedom to see the real ailments causing the slow death of this country. Wake up and watch out who you call a "lefty or a liberal" I used to be like you. I voted for Bush in 2000 and went to see Reagen when he came to my city in 1984. But I woke up and I saw that the Dems and Reps are smoke and mirrors to protect the system that is destroying what made this country what is was.
We're screwed. Neither Party is going to restore the US to the good ol days. Mr. Obama has no background in what it takes to build anything. Mr. Romney has only done good works for the top few percenters. The dems are all about social welfare. The Repubs are all about corporate welfare. Nobody in the game is interested in or has a clue how to help the shrinking middle class. But in order to get the middle class votes both sides have to act like and swear they know all about the middle class and what it takes to build a strong, advanced society. The current or new President and Congress will continue to do what they have been doing since Nixon, preside over the decline of America's strength while enriching a very, very few to unbelievable levels. The saddest part is about 50% of Americans actually think they can fit in the top 5%
Did someone say Mr. Obama? I saw this today and had to laugh.
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher whose hand was caught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his role as our president.
The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle''.
...
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'. The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of idiot put him up there to begin with."
Right on IREADYOU Right on! Nailed it. Romeny and his ilk shuffle fake money around, slam-bamming for quick profits, using influence and money to structure the tax laws so that they and their business interests can squirrel away all their money while the rest of us stagger under heavier and heavier tax burdens and a falling dollar. In theory venture capital makes a lot of sense. But what we have now, the type demonstrated by Romney...is the cancer eating America. He moves in...they grab onto Staples Office Supply. The convert the operation to big time...they set up a network of stores employing people a low wages peddling Chinese made junk but charging roughly what they charged when it was made in the US. 1/100 of the product cost to make, all the profits from before. YEEEHAA! The stockholders make a quick buck, the CEO's line their pockets as reward for outsourcing and driving up the stock value filling the stores with Chinese junk and most of the middle class, which used to make an adequate living MAKING things...now works for $8.75 an hour peddling Chinese crap to Mr. PROBUSINESS above. And if for one second...you (anyone) think the democrats aren't up to their neck in this mess you're as deluded as they are.
Cute storey Deborah...but it applies to most of these candidates. They are all "put there". It is who is putting them there that should scare you. And All of these Dems who are offended that people refer to President Obama as "Obama" are appearantly forgetting the moniker "W" (pronounced dubyah) that most everyone used to refer to that sub-educated business stooge babboon of a president that occupied the white house from 2000-2008.
Steven: I'll try to answer your questions. I never really got excited about conventions anyway. They are scripted "dog and pony shows". Nice to get the "base" excited but really doesn't mean a hill of beans.
And I don't get too caught up with speeches on the campaign trail. Again, they are scripted and intended to say a particular message. I look at the "off the cuff" remarks. I look for comments made in debates where pre-scripted comments are harder. When I look at Obama's comments quite frankly it scares the #%$ out me. Let's just look at a couple:
1) I do think at a certain point you've made enough money
2) UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? It's the Post Office that's always having problems (and Obama said this to somehow support the idea the federal government can do things better?)
3) I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody
4) It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion
5) I will fundamentally change America
6) And we can see the positive impacts right here at Solyndra (less than a year later Solyndra filed bankruptcy)
7) I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage (I guess he said this before he saw the poll)
8) We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all time (so Obama believes it is GOVERNMENT'S responsibility to manage our lives?)
9) I can make a firm pledge, under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase (that lasted less than a year)
10) To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully (unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, convicted of corrupt financing Tony Rezco, mentor and member of the Communist Party Frank Davis, black militant pastor Jeremiah Wright, and anti-american nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan just to name a few)
11) I guess our shovel-ready project were not as "shovel-ready" as we had hoped (and then LAUGHED about it!!)
12) I will have the most transparent administration in history
13) Since I'm the president and Democrats have controlled the House and Senate, it's understandable that people are saying, you know, "What have you done?". (Yes, and we are still asking)
14) What is a danger is that we stay stuck in a new normal where unemployment rates stay high (sorry Mr. President that is not a NEW normal or an OLD normal. In fact it is NOT normal)
15) If you've got a business you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. (There are millions of business owners who beg to differ)
And the MOST dangerous and scary comment when Obama was caught on an open mic saying to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev:
16) This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.
What did THAT mean? If you have something to promise Russia you tell the American people BEFORE the election and not wait until later. That comment should scare the "beejeejus" out of everbody!! Obama wants to INTENTIONALLY mislead the American people by telling us one thing and AFTER the election promising something else to Russia?
Obama is a danger to our country. He doesn't believe in the private sector. And doesn't believe in the values America stands for. That is not MY opinion - you only have to read the comments Obama has made when speaking from the "heart" rather than a teleprompter. Just read the above comments and get scared. Get really scared.........
But apparently nothing about Bush or Romney scares you...you see PROBUSINESS...that is what worries me about you and your ilk. No, personally I don't think Obama "hates" the private sector. I think his comments perhaps can be forged to construe that but again, his ire is directed at the very top...the ones pulling the strings...not the middle class and average businesses. Keep in mind...it costs $12-$35 to send something FedEx or UPS but a lot less to send something via the mail. There are certain things that cannot be "for profit". They are like roads...bridges...airports, etc. Something we need to put money into so that business can continue. Now if we want to debate the need for actual mail and whether the post office has outlived its value that is fine...but suggesting that it make a profit is absurd. As an ardent Ayn Rand devotee I also understand that there are problems with being to strict...we can't all be super rich and super fine...its not in the cards. Some will have more, some less but we need a structure that provides everyone with the chance to have some. Also, if you are going to ignore science...you do so at your own peril. Although I am at heart a traditional (not the neocon of today) republican I hold to fact and reason and we are altering the environment. Just not wanting to believe it or basing climate change on a commie plot to make us all poor does not make the overwhelming evidence go away. When you have right wingers telling people all of the things they can and can't do...(abortion, gay marraige, etc) how can you sit there and complain that Obama thinks you should conserve resources and not live with wanton disregard? My point has never been that Obama is right and the others wrong...it is why do you get so bent out of shape over his friends...his statements...his beliefs...etc but you don't get concerned about those on your side? Maybe some of your concerns are justified...but you never seem concerned about the really suspect issues on your side...
Steve you are most correct.
:-) Thank you Deborah...and honestly...I loved the story.
Steven: You are deflecting again. The question is simple: What has Obama done to help grow this country and economy. Not once has he asked the business community "what can we do to help you". He has his philosophy on how a business works but yet has never ran so much as a lemonade stand. He wouldn't know a Profit and Loss statement if it bit him in the butt. He has never "hired and fired". He never had to look at a Cash Flow statement. And of course has never seen a budget either.
You see this is the Obama problem. This country is built around the private sector. This economy CANNOT grow without the private sector growing but everything Obama has done has hindered the private sector. They don't know even what their TAXES will be effective January 2013!! How can a business make a decision that will affect the next 10 years when they don't even know what their taxes will be?!?!?
ObamaCare will significantly increase the cost of business. Do you know that ObamaCare initiates huge penalties on companies of 50 employees or more? I know one company that has 53 employees. They are waiting to see if ObamaCare is repealed. If not they are already determining which 4 employees they will have to release. I know another company with about 30 employees. They have already determined the maximum they can grow their business because they will stop at around 46 to 47 employees. I know another company that has nearly 100 employees. You are probably thinking ObamaCare won't affect them but are wrong. They have calculated they will need to release four employees to cover the cost of ObamaCare.
Obama has not asked the BUSINESSES what they need to grow their business and actually telling them if they are successful they will pay MORE in taxes. How can you say that is NOT an attack on businesses and the private sector.
I don't get bogged down in philosophical differences. All I care about is a country with growth and opportunity. Obama has not given us either. Use terms like "right winger", ignore science, and commie plot all you want to. Go ahead and defend Obama - I know I won't change your mind. But to the people who REALLY care about this country they look honestly at what this president has said and done and you can't come up with any other conclusion other than "FAILURE".
The ONLY way to grow this economy is to grow the private sector through business. So our focus SHOULD be "what do the businesses need". But this is NOT something Obama is concerned about. So why is ANYBODY surprised with the lack of business growth and expansion and a stagnant economy with 8.3% unemployment?
Precisely Steven, not only are your listed "accomplishments" correct, but the 8.3% and rising unemployment was a big part of Obama's first campaign. He promised it would never rise above 8%, and in 4 years it has never been below that benchmark. What a great and honest man Obama is.
Steven, you say that since high school you have been an avid conservative (or at least that's what I got from it, seeing as you complained about ProBusiness using the term "liberal") but seeing you praise and glorify Obama so, and bashing Bush and Reagan and most Republicans, I don't see how you could be anything BUT on the left. & my previous comment was meant to be directed at Probusiness, not Steven. My apologies.
This is President Obama's REAL quote. Nobody can deny that what he said is the truth:
Let me tell you something. There are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.
Coco, whoever built it certainly wasn't Obama. He destroyed it. And it seems overwhelmingly obvious to me that business-owners didn't build roads and bridges. Construction workers did (har har, its obvious). Business-owners have businesses to run. We all receive help in our lives -.-
ProBusiness, YOU are most correct. It is what the president says, when he is off message, unscripted, or thinks no one can hear, that is MOST telling and quite terrifying. His ideas of what our country should be appear to be radically different from the ideals of our Constitution.
He criticizes Wall Street, then gets in bed with them for campaign money; he's more interested in celebrity friends than his constituency; the only thing he has done for four years is apologetic and ineffective interaction with foreign heads of state, and ram through the financially dangerous ACA, EVEN THOUGH all polling data says that his constituents, the American people DON'T WANT IT!
He has winked while the obstructionist SENATE has stymied every piece of legislation the House has put forth, even when it comes from the Dems and Republican representatives, and while they have violated the law that calls for them to come up with a budget. If Obama has been ineffective and delusional, the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid has been the worst. People have no respect for Congress, but Congress can get NOTHING done with the Senate in the way!
IReadyyou is also right; neither party can return us to the "good old days", because those days were built on unrealistic expectations, consumerism at its greediest, with a buy now, pay later mentality. Statistics show that the average American is spending less and charging less. That's a good thing...we need to learn to live within our means, individually and as a nation. That will NEVER happen as long as we have leadership that wants to give (or at least promise to give) everyone everything they want, at the taxpayers expense.
As far as all the racist rhetoric, it is abhorrent! For those who really believe that racism is motivating a country that is waking up to the state of nation, shame on you for YOUR RACIST AGENDA.
Some of these comments are downright mean and pathetic just another reason for me to hate liberals even more.
You liberals have Destroyed California please all you moderates and independents help fix America or you will all end up like California poor 19 billion in the hole and infested with corrupt politicians and @!$%# loads of Illegal Aliens.
I bust my ass and I see lot's of my money going to the politicians in Sacramento and what do they do 8( pass the dream act, give drivers licenses to Illegals, take away more of my rights.
Big Al, I was unaware that any conservatives were even present in Calif. Bravo my man, continue your beliefs and please spread it through your corrupt state.
Romney/Ryan 2012
@ starfox: "So yes, you are correct. The National debt went up. But what if it had not. Would you really want to suffer the consequences from Bush's pathetic governance for eight years and be poor and broke?"
Riddle me this: What group had the majority the last two years of Bush and the first two years of O??? Oh that's right those "small" FACTS escape you -- they are called democrats you fool!
Coco: Obama said "If you've got a business - you didn't build that". You can try all the "he meant to say" all you want but that is not what he said. He said "If you've got a business - you didn't build that". What he said was what he felt. Obama believes the government is the reason your business is successful. His reference to bridges and roads were that if it weren't for the bridges and road your business would not have succeeded. Don't try to say when he said "you didn't build that" it meant "bridges and roads".
If THAT was what he meant he would not have then said "If you've got a business" before it. He would have said "Somebody invested in bridges and roads. You didn't build ....." but wait a minute? Isn't Obama highly educated? Wouldn't he know that bridges and roads are plural? So if he meant "bridges and roads" wouldn't he have said the word "THOSE"!! So this whole idea of when he said "you didn't build that" he clearly can NOT mean bridges and roads otherwise he would have said "you didn't build THOSE"!! To say "you didn't build THAT" is singular and MUST relate to a singular item - business. Your business. Your hard working business.
Obama said "If you've got a business - you didn't build THAT" - and he meant it.
We actually have lot's of moderates I am far from a ultra Conservative 8) I consider myself a moderate and Libertarian but SF and LA are blue and liberal as hell 8( these 2 major cities are full or corrupt politicians. We have so many communist bastards running the show it's horrible seeing this once great State go to hell.
I couldn't let this one go. The PURE idiocy of our voters today is incredibly disturbing. NO Barbara Adams Jackson the three branches of our Government are the Executive Branch, Judicial Branch, and the Legislative Branch in which the HOUSE and SENATE reside.
Got that?
The next time you talk about someone flunking a course maybe you should consider yourself a candidate as well. Oh and all those 20 or so votes that people gave you, include them. All of you please do this country a favor and skip out on voting this November. At least until you get yourselves a proper education.
Borderlands: I didn't catch that comment from Barbara Adams Jackson!! And we wonder why our country is spiraling into failure and bankruptcy when today they can't even teach what the three branches of government are? (Also shows the failure of our public school system but I digress).
But what is more scary is when she said "We didn't elect a king - wish we had....". This is what us Tea Party is fighting. People who do not understand the Constitution but, more importantly, don't understand WHY the Constitution was written that way. For the very reason she is proposing. To make sure the government is for the people and by the people and the way you do that is to make sure the power is not concentrated.
We have a House and Senate in the Legislative Branch for the purposes of FORCING compromise - but our president (Executive Branch) and the Senate (Harry Reid) don't want to compromise. The system works as intended. The power was split up enough to make sure YOUR king (Obama) cannot have free reign. He DID for two years but the "people" revolted. Now in 2012 we can complete that revolt by taking over the Senate AND the presidency and get this country growing again. Repeal ObamaCare. Reduce the excessive power afforded to non-elected like EPA and Health and Human Services. And simply SUPPORT businesses instead of having disdain for success.
The one thing about this great country is we have made mistakes in the past but our system allows us to correct them. Obama and the Democrats were a HUGE mistake in 2008 but our system will allow the people the opportunity to fix that mistake.
End of an Error 1/20/13
DemsareDim, you go on about me "gloryfing" Obama. Hardly do I do that. You guys are amazing. I just completely disagree with you about Obama being anti public sector. He may be fed up with the shananigans of big business but it amazes me how NONE of you Romeny supporters address let alone are concerned by the sway big business now has in this country. Are you unaware of growing inequality or do you just ignore it? Do you not see that the best days of this country are when business was allowed to flourish but was held from brandishing absolute control. I am a free market guy but we don't have that. I am in favor of the private sector driving the economy but not at the expense of the environment and the overall health of the US. See, here is the difference, say what you will when I am done here. You cannot see past what you want to see. I wish I didn't see what I do. But you are so committed now that you will not even permit yourself to see this from both sides. So because I prefer Obama, despite his presidency being unproductive, yes, he is better than Romney who want to give us a double dose of the Clinton/Bush years of unrestrained money running the government. You continually avoid the issue as if it is not a problem but it is the sum total of all our wohs. But if you accept that then you realize that neither party in front of us, plus all the ideas we had about them don't add up. Its tough but true. I do not support Obama especially but you are placing a lot of faith in Romney and he is far an away a bigger tool of the top top top 1%. Here is what I see coming. If Romney wins, things will move ahead slowly at first and then we will head into another huge boom. Regulations on the finance industry and all fossil fuels will come down and it will be exciting until the next crash. And that crash may finish us. Our credit rating will likely be destroyed, borrowing power gone, the debt, which the GOP will not address once they get it and give the corporations what they want (they never do when they are in power) and we will be reduced to a second tier nation staring increasingly violent and wild weather events and crop failures as we head deeper into climate change and China barrels forward completely unchecked. We are already heading into it...all the signs are there and if we do nothing at all it will get far worse. Put this in your closet and pull it out ten years down the road when we are in a complete depression. And SERIOUSLY, get over this liberal/conservative thing...it doesn't mean anything. We are all pawns now.
Big Al-369306, California's system used to be the envy of all the other states. Their system started falling apart when a chicken-sh*t Reagan legislature abrogated it's responsibility to LEGISLATE and make hard decisions and authorized CITIZENS INITIATIVES so that the common folk could make the hard decisions. It wasn't long before the idiots figured out that they could vote away the taxes they didn't like.
Let's be frank, here. The vast majority of 'common folk' are idiots. I (and you, either) wouldn't want most of the common folk in my (your) community making financial or life or death decisions for me. That's why we have elections and election campaigns, to weed out the idiots and place people in office we can trust not to make idiotic decisions.
Once California had citizens initiatives, the idiots took over. The ones with cars voted down the highway and highway and maintenance taxes and started complaining about traffic tie-ups and potholes and ruts in their roads and highways. The voted down the taxes supporting their colleges and universities providing all the states citizens a free college education and started complaining about the falling prestige of the universities and the high (some of the highest in the nation) tuition and fees they had to pay for their children. They voted down sanitation taxes and started complaining because their garbage wasn't picked up often enough and their municipalities stopped sweeping their streets. They voted down the local school taxes and started complaining that their schools were becoming sub-standard because the very best teachers and administrators were going to the private schools where they earned a living wage and where they were provided the best tools to do their jobs. Etc, etc, etc.
Cutting the money supply (cutting government spending) when an economy is clawing its way out of a deep recession would be an idiot decision. Only a fool would see that as a solution. Future history and economics books will be equating this recession with the Great Depression and that without President Obama's stimulus, extended unemployment benefits, and other government spending, that our economy would have crashed into total collapse. He managed to SAVE this country in spite of the obstructionists
Steven: But there is one major problem with your ideology - businesses will not STAY in business if the profit is not worth the risk. You see in order to start a business it requires investment - either yours or from other investors. How do you decide if it is "worth the risk". You calculate what the potential loss is if it fails and what the potential gain is if it succeeds. To do that ALL costs must be used in the calculation - including taxes. End result if the "reward" is not worth the "risk" then the business does not get started.
So your desire to penalize success and limit profit potential hinders investment. Assume you are in a Civics class in high school and that semester has a possible 1000 points. You want an "A" so you work hard with a goal of achieving 900 points (90% so you will get an "A"). It will take hard work. Many hours. Many sacrifices. Weekend beach trips delayed. And even with all that you still MAY not get 900 points but it is worth the investment in time.
Now imagine for a moment the teacher tells the class "if anybody gets 900 points I will be taking all points over 899 points, putting into a bucket, and dispersing evenly to anybody who got less than 600 points to make sure they don't fail the class". So you now realize that the BEST you can get is 899 points and a "B". What would be the incentive for you to do your best? Once you get to a "B" you stop because there is no incentive for you to do any better. There is no further "reward" available - so you stop once you get 899 points and so do the other motivated students.
Funny thing happens - since there is no reward over 899 points everyone stopped at 899 and there are no extra points to redistribute to those who are failing the course and they end up failing.
Works the same way in business. Why sacrifice when the government is going to limit your reward? Liberals don't understand that part. Why would a business sacrifice and risk time and money when the reward available isn't sufficient. Notice, however, who has suffered. Not the "wealthy". They will be fine. What suffers is the economy, GDP, and unemployment - and the very people you are trying to actually help. There are then less jobs. So higher unemployment. Businesses not expanding. Profits being held and not reinvested (and why should they?). Any additional profits is being threatened by our government). Sound familiar? It is what we have right now.
When you have a government that wants to punish success then the incentive to BE successful diminishes. And those that get hurt are not the "wealthy" (they will be fine) but rather the middle and lower class. Redistribution has NEVER worked historically. Amazing how liberals KNOW governmental redistribution has never worked but somehow believe THEY can do it differently THIS time. They are wrong.
ProBusiness, here is the link to that section of the Presidents speech. It's just under 3 minutes long. I DARE you to go, watch and listen to it. I know you won't go--you don't want to be disillusioned.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=192oEC5TX_Q
ProBusiness, even a 3rd grader knows taxes don't put a ceiling on how much one can earn. Do you pay taxes? no matter how much you earn, no matter how high the tax rate (as long as it's not 100%) any increase in pre-tax income will result in an increase in after tax dollars, a reward for earning more.
Coco: I watched the video again and he has said nothing different than the LAST several times I watched it. He said "If you've got a business - you didn't build that". How can the liberals keep trying to defend that? He was not talking about "you didn't build the bridges and roads" - that's nonsense. If he desired to say that he would NOT have even referenced "business" and he would have said "you didn't build THOSE"!!
Obama made it clear that a business did not succeed on its own without government. That is what he said while running for president. That is what he has said while being president. And that is what he said in the video. No matter how many times you watch the video and TRY to make it sound like something else you cannot. He said "If you've got a business - you didn't build that". Period. End of story.
Also, you say "even a 3rd grader knows taxes don't put a ceiling on how much one can earn". True. But even a 2nd grader knows that if they start a lemonade stand and mama takes MORE out of each sale then the 2nd grader is not getting as much as he did before. So even a 2nd grader will ask does it STILL make sense for me to make lemonade and sweat outside waiting for someone to buy it if this is all I can keep when I DO sell it. So the 2nd grader considers closing down the lemonade stand.
When you REDUCE the reward you reduce the incentive. You make it sound like "just be happy you are allowed to keep SOME of your income". The truth is, as even the 2nd grader knows, that when your profits are reduced you decide whether the lower profit is worth the risk and effort. Many times it is not. You see you can't skip 2nd grade and go right to 3rd grade.
ProBusiness, You must not have been keeping up with the same government I was keeping up with. None on the Republican side of the aisle would negotiate on a single article of ANY legislation. On a last attempt on a budget, President Obama and Speaker Boehner got together and actually negotiated a deal, with some spending cuts and some small tax increases, that both men thought that their side of the aisle could pass. Before Speaker Boehner could even get back to the House with the compromise, House Republicans got wind of the deal and started throwing NO NEW TAXES hissy fits on the floor of the House, even threatening to throw Speaker Boehner out of the Speakers chair if he even dared present the compromise in the House. As a result, Speaker Boehner just threw the compromise under a bus and the President simply stopped trying to compromise with nuts who wouldn't compromise. The result is the Nuclear option that goes into effect in January.
CoComoe, You'll never get thru to ProBusiness because she is a paid troll.
Coco: No more excuses. Obama failed. A leader knows how to lead and Obama is not a leader. Obama is a follower and does not make a decision without a poll first. A leader takes responsibility for their actions and results. Obama has failed. Make excuses all you want to but the people who will be voting in November want a leader. They don't want someone who has failed the last four years, blamed on someone/anyone else, and is basically saying the next 4 years if elected won't be any different because he didn't know how to be a leader the LAST 4 years so who would expect him to learn how to be a leader the NEXT 4 years?
Obama is the epitome of failure. There is only ONE person that can be happy with the job Obama has done the last 4 years and that is Jimmy Carter. Now Jimmy Carter will know he will go to his grave no longer considered the worst president in U.S. history - Obama has assumed that role. And Jimmy Carter is grinning ear to ear now knowing Obama will be known as the worst president in U.S. history.
ProBusiness, how can ANYONE lead a group of nuts who believe compromise means "my way or the highway", who threaten to throw out their OWN LEADER if he dared come to them with a compromise to consider, who VOWED at the start of his administration that the only thing they were going to do, their only goal, even though this country was at the time falling into the deepest recession since the Great Depression, was to make this countries first black Presidents administration a failure? You must take the thinking people posting here for fools.
If anybody votes for Obama a second time, they are an idiot. Steven, you say that Romney/Ryan will do nothing to alleviate the debt crisis, but they stated clearly that government spending will be reduced to 20% of GDP maximum. The problem isn't taxes here. It's the wasteful government spending. And all of the liberals are saying that the wasteful spending is on Bush and the Repubs before him, but Obama has spent MORE THAN BUSH'S 8 YEARS COMBINED IN ONE TERM. That fixes nothing! And it isn't Bush's fault!! Obama has had 4 years of control to try to fix things, and they have come and gone.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Tampa, Aug 30, 2012: at a fundraiser during the Republican National Convention, GOP strategist Karl Rove said, "We should sink Todd Akin," and followed that by stating, "If he's found mysteriously murdered, don't look for my whereabouts!"
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/08/todd-akins-office-disturbed-by-karl-roves-joke/
Karl Rove, GOP/Republican strategist
Todd Akin, GOP/Republican Congressman, candidate for U.S. Senator of Missouri
Coco: To compromise you have to be willing to TALK!! During the health care debate the Democrats went into a room and did not even let Republicans in. Republicans did not know what was even IN the bill until the evening before the vote. And the Republicans are "my way or the highway"? And how about the dozens of bills already discussed and passed in the house that Harry Reid will not even ALLOW to be discussed on the Senate floor. And the Republicans are "my way or the highway"? You need to better educate yourself on what is actually going on.
Republicans are more than willing to discuss. We state our side. Democrats state their side. Discussion and compromise takes place. THAT is what is supposed to happen. But Obama and Harry Reid won't even ALLOW discussion? That doesn't sound like Republicans are saying "my way or the highway". It is the Democrats that have said "my way or the highway".
What probusiness doesn't address is that since the 80's business has taken jobs from America to cut costs so that instead of a custom profit margin of 11-13%, they can have profit margins of 18-22% by using slave labor. And until, the U.S. would penalize such companies for the slave labor practice substantial job growth and solid jobs will never return. That's the way unrestricted free enterprise works. Never for the employee, only for the employer. So these businesses who are based in the U.S. conveniently sit on large profits but have no urgency to hire or give any kind of benefits whatsoever, because they don't need to. No one not even Obama has forced their hand.
Go ahead, make my day.
Totally inappropriate.
Now I understand the GOP's job at this convention is to blame our president for the Republican's mess. To blame our president for not cleaning up their mess. We expect that. The party that so many years ago sold itself as the party of responsible choices has in fact turned out to be a party of irresponsible choices. Over and over and over.
So the question at this convention is this.
What exactly has the Republican Party tried to do in the last 4 years to undo their mess? Give me one example of when they decided to behave like responsible adults and work as team players. Because I can't seem to recall that one moment. All I seem to recall is them doing exactly nothing except trying to buy the presidency and accusing our president of not being born here in America.
That's where their energies have been for four long long years.
It's called incompetence. As usual.
And people in this country, so full of hate for fellow Americans, continue to buy into their crap. Over and over and over.
Are you serious Pat Boston? A President who has gotten us trillions of dollars in debt (to improve the economy), taken from social security to pay for his health care plan, increased unemployment, increased welfare recipients, decreased our military and your still blaming the former presidency? And why did it take almost 4 years to produce a birth certificate?
I would ask if YOU are mentally ill Barbara but your post kind of answers that query all by itself.
Barbara, it didn't take four years to produce a birth certificate. It was produced the day he was born.
Boy oh boy. Republicans are worse than I thought.
That's a FOX lie they are not taking any miney from seniors to pay for Obamacare that is a bold faced sack of Ryan bull manure lie.Get the facts stupid.
Barbara..Decreasing the Military...Damn RIGHT! We don't need a battalion or more of soldiers to die in other countries for political purposes. DEFENSE ONLY. NOT NATION BUILDING.
Barbara,
Put the crack pipe down.
Paul Ruin's speech was fact checked front and back and found to be full of lies, half truths and strategic omissions.
Yes Barbara he had to feed the people as dear old Mitt took all their jobs and out sourced them. I know if it had been Mitt he would of just said I don't care about the poor. It doesn't matter that we had a republican congress who plotted against this president before he could even take his place as president. They refused to work with him on the behalf of the American people. This is suppose to be a government for the people by the people. Our government is being held hostage by group of radical right wing idiots and Paul Ryan is the leader. No president has ever been asked to produce a birth certificate before and President Obama should not of had to either. President Bush had eight years to tear this country apart so I know the president deserves eight. You forget your boy Paul took twenty one million of that money. You republicans are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. Straight democratic ticket for me and four more years for Obama/Biden 2012. Vote the radicals out of congress and get this country on the right track.
No, birth certificates take time to be filled out and sent through the municipal machinery.
Now, Obama's school records, you know basically everything Obama ever did....why are those records sealed?
What's Obama hiding? Did he attend school as a foreign exchange student? How did he get into all those high-dollar institutions?
John, you're right.
Obamacre does NOT take from seniors. It takes from doctors and hospitals.
Who needs doctors and hospitals for healthcare, anyway? Bureaucrats do a better job delivering healthcare, do they not?
Paul Ryan's Medicare plan removed the same money. the exact. same. money. why? because that money has been proven to be wasted and easily gotten by fraudulent means. that is just ONE of the lies and half truths from his speech. even a FOX NEWS COMMENTATOR said right there on FOX that he was lying left and right! why is it so very difficult for Republican's these days to make sure that they are being told the truth and not lied to? why are you so eager to drink whatever swill the GOP pours into your cup as you sit at the seedy old Fox News Bar? if what they are telling you is true, why don't any of you ever bother to fact check what you hear there? what are you afraid of learning?
Hey Momof many ..... Do the words "student loan" ring any bells in your belfry??? maybe if YOU went to college you would know about those things ...Tell me that you do know about them and then I will ask why the blatant hypocrisy .... and if you did go to college I ask,,,what good did it do you, none that shows in the posts you compose nor in the logic you display. Summary: Your words do not compute.
THAT is the question we will never have an answer for. I never got in the citizen/non-citizen argument, but I always wonder why Obama fought it at all. If he had nothing to hide, why did he even feel it necessary to bring lawyers into it? He continues the controversy by fighting to hide/seal aspects of his past.
Honestly, I would not care if he was born illegitimately on Mars to a disease-eaten prostitute if he was a good POTUS, but he's not.
I am looking forward to hearing President Obama's guest speakers.

Clint was great. What an icon and a man that tells it like it is. Not a sissy man. I admire him.
Romney/Ryan 8 years
no joe
You are right Taking $716 billion from care for seniors that many of us pay into every pay check means little or no care for any of us as seniors.
Its called population control or Obama throwing granny over the cliff.
Burning Brightly, you have it so right.. Clint was great, Rubio was great, they were right on the money.
Mitt Romney said it all... ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 and for eight years.....
Almost the first sentence out of Romney's mouth was a lie. He said that after the last election, we came together--as if there WAS a spirit of bi-partisanship and cooperation. The GOP let us down by promising to obstruct, and then delivering on that promise again and again.
Thank you for repeating the list of congressmen that held us ALL back. They should be held accountable for their stupidity!
Oh, and Eastwood is getting a little senile it seems. Poor guy!
@ Jean What a relief it will be to move forward once again with respect and dignity. This administration wore me out with just.... nothing.
Romney/Ryan 8 years
If people got anymore stupid on this blog America's IQ would drop 100 points. Obama's mother was a US citizen that made him a US citizen no matter where he was born. These Mexicans come across the border and have their babies here they are US citizens not the parents that had them. John McCain was born overseas I didn't see anybody ask for his BC. I can see it now 200yrs from now some idiot will still say OB was not a US citizen. 2012
burning brightly get some help
I was embarrassed when I saw a pic of our president emerge from his presidential car in a pair of ghetto jeans and flip flops. And I canNOT for the life of me figure out why the flags were not ordered to fly at half mast for Neil Armstrong. Was it because he addressed Congress for gutting NASA and the space program this year or because Democrats think the moon landing was photoshopped and didn't really happen?
Sharon:
Your description defines your hate and racism--seems to be the red and white blood cells of half of America. How very sad
United, I heard the same thing you did as Romney opened his speech. YOU are taking what he said out of context to twist it to your purpose. Maybe you should clean the dirt of of your ears and try to learn to comprhend!!!!
Actually maybe you should get your facts straight. The health care law reduces the amount of future spending growth in Medicare.
re·duce/riˈd(y)oÍžos/
Verb:
John, According to Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan financial review office of Congress which both Republicans and Democrats rely on for their numbers about budget and proposed legislation, Obama's $716 billion over 10 years transferred from Medicare budget to ACA budget is not going to affect Senior's health care coverage at all and is possible because of cost savings that will be achieved through lower administrative costs and fraud prevention efforts.
Romney has chosen to make this an issue for political reasons. His claims on this are simply not true.
I advise everyone to tell the Seniors, they know, the truth about this issue.
How can we solve our problems when reality is being distorted in such an aggressive way. We can only make progress by first accurately assessing the situation and then with facts in hand decide what changes are necessary to improve our situation.
It is what we all do in our personal lives. Gather facts and make a decision based on those facts. I do it in my business and so do other businessmen and businesswomen. It is how we make progress.
Pat Boston MA has it exactly right, but it's even more so. Mitch McConnell proclaimed AT THE START that the single most important goal for the Rs is to deny Obama a second term. That was before the so-called results or non-results of his presidency. And then they did everything they could to make unemployment high and the economy bad. Mostly, the Senate blocked any legislation that might help us all (except the wealthy) get more and better jobs -- even if said legislation had previously been proposed by Republicans!
All of you knee-jerk Obama haters out there -- stop and THINK for a change. Obama has done nothing but help our economy. His list of accomplishments, despite the bunker mentality of the Rs in Congress, is very long and can be spoken of with pride. Our country is much better because of him. It's much worse because of W, and Romney would return to W's policies and finish the job of truly destroying the greatest nation on Earth.
@Harry4. You said Obama has done nothing but help our economy? You sure are right!!! Let's see... 23 Millions people still out of work and unemployment still above 8% which is actually probably around 24% because people don't really count the ones who stopped looking for work and/or isn't collecting unemployment anymore. The other thing is that the debt is climbing to $16 Trillions and he does nothing about it. So what has he done? Seriously man, What has he done?. No doubt Bush had his share of debt and every president has dating back to Woodrow Wilson. Oh wait I guess you didn't know that. Anyway, but come on man!!! What lunatic would actually think he's helping our economy? I am a small business owner and I can tell you that he's killing me with his regulations. What would you know? You are probably one of those free loaders that I feed with my taxes that I pay on a quarterly basis. People like you don't know how to go out and stake your own claim but instead you make the government do everything for you probably because you are one lazy son of a gun who has no formal education. Yes, I am just assuming those accusation on you because your actions and words doesn't give me a whole of choice when it comes to judging you.
@Allie22
There is a good quote to go with you question, "It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled."
I enjoy Clint Eastwood as much as the next person, but I think in he is starting to lose his marbles. He (and the other members of the GOP) really need to stop blaming Obama for the mess that 8 years of Bush/Cheney created. You don't blame the guy with the mop and bucket for the spilled drink the waiter dropped.
The Republicans have always excelled at shifting the blame and coating themselves with Teflon; they never take any responsibility and always protect their own. "Blame the other party" has always been their motto and battle cry.
Vote Obama.

____________________________________________________
You are a good example of that Gary, since you obviously have never read and do not understand the law... like most libbies.
The one and only, I really hope you ARE the one and only person with your mindset. Please never have children and spread your completely misconstrued method of thinking. You have your parties mixed around I believe, because living in WI and being a part of the Scott Walker recal has taught me a few things about Tom Barrett, Obama, and many other liberals. They tell nothing about what they will do or what they have done to help anybody, the blame their predecessors for everything, not taking blame, and not fixing their own problems that they have created. Obama has done nothing to help the nation, nor has he provided me with any hope that another term will provide anything otehr than another 5 trillion in debt, but nevertheless, that will undoubtedly fall to being at the hands of Bush, or maybe even the Republican terms of the Great Depression. Maybe all this debt is racking up from the war machines we built to stop Hitler, who the hell knows? But it certainly hasn't been Obama, he's grown the nation straight up right? With another Obama term, the U.S. can only go down from here
4 more years of that inept President we currently have and this country will implode. We can not continue to spend like this.
@DemsAreDim
You obviously suffer from the same memory loss that I previously described. This mess was left by the previous administration for the current administration to deal with.
Geo, Bush Jr and his administration caused inconceivable damage to America and our way of life. During his inexpert hand on the tiller he steered this country into a conservative theocracy, subjugated civil rights and personal freedoms, and shredded the Constitution. He started a war with Iraq under what now know was a completely false pretense. We had a budget surplus when Bush entered office, when he left office there was over a 2 trillion dollar deficit. This is the legacy he left for you, me, and the current administration.
Obama is doing very well with a terrible situation and all the GOP can do is block his administration and spew hateful rhetoric. I doubt very much that the likes of Romney can do a better job.
Heres a little somthing I found on Foxes web site
Paul Ryan’s speech in 3 words
By Sally Kohn
Sally Kohn is a Fox News contributor and writer.
One and Only - You are pathetic...you should man up just like Pres Zero should. He "inherited" a mess? I thought that's why president's took the job - to make things better? I'm sure you go to your boss (assuming you have a job) and say. "But boss, the previous project manager before me screwed everything up. It's not my fault!"
See how pathetic that sounds when it's real life? Zero is no different. A real man, a real leader would step up and get the job done no matter what obstacles he was facing. The fact that you defend this incompetent dbag in the WH proves that your a big pussy too.
@Tebow15
Yes, a personal attack is always a good way to start a well informed rebuttal.
Wow. See previous.
You're clearly a mental giant.
Exactly what Obama has done. He has inherited a huge mess and it's going to take time to straighten out. The previous administrations caused a huge amount of damage to our economy and our country. The problem is not only with our own economy, this is a global crisis. No single person is going to be able to fix this. But Obama is doing a great job keeping us from sinking into a second Great Depression. Sadly the propagandists don't emphasis the good he has done.
BTW Tebow? Seriously? Not a personal attack, but the "Tebow" praying thing is pretty lame. But that's another subject entirely.
LOL, The one and only,
"Obama is doing very well with a terrible situation"
5 trillion added to the deficit is doing "well"?! Then I would hate to think how far you wack-jobs are willing to let him go before it IS considered out of hand.. And FYI (Maybe you haven't been here the past 4 years, possibly you went with Obama on one of his many vacations, so let me inform you) He has had 4 YEARS to fix the problem. 4 YEARS to end the two wars in the Middle East and bring the troops home. He obviously hasn't seen fit to end it in either country so it isn't any different than the Bush administration! None of you will get it until a freight train hits you - in essence, (God forbid), another Obama term comes to the United States and we rack up another few trillion in debt and go straight down the drain with Obama's failed policies.
@DemsAreDim
Yes, it's very expensive to unwind a military campaign. Bush should have considered that before involving the US in two wars.
Also in case you haven't noticed the entire global economy is in the toilet; which again isn't the fault of any current administration. Greedy traders and mortgage bankers are the sole cause of this. Go learn about Credit Default Swaps and other "exotics" and then complain.
Sadly I have not had the privilege. I recall that Bush Jr spent most of his time on vacation of golf outings.
That's completely false. Iraq is deescalating. Afghanistan is still a mess and unless we want to see it become once again a breeding ground for terrorists then it is in our best interests to shore up their infrastructure.. The most important thing to take away is that we have done serious damage to the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization. Obama pulled the trigger on Bin Laden which is something that Bush would not do.
Judging by the canned responses I suspect that rather than considering the global situation based on facts you have instead been buying into the propaganda from sources like Fox news. It's easy to let someone else do the thinking for you; there are nice sound bites and rhetoric that sounds like truth. But it's lazy. Take the time to consider all of the options and form a real opinion.
FAUX "News" lies!
I feel sorry for Clint and it's sad to see that age has taken away his common sense. That was nothing but a bad PR move gone terribly wrong. This will be joke fodder for months.
Sorry tony, I don't feel sorry for anyone who speaks at a Republican Convention. That party is nuts. And it's gotten even worse since Sarah Palin showed up 4 years ago.
Pat, I respect your opinion, but I've been an Eastwood fan since The Good, The Bad and The Ugly came out. Too bad that his speech was the latter two this evening.
tony, I liked Eastwood in Unforgiven. That's about it. But he is no doubt quite a popular actor. Just was never my cup of tea.
I'll agree his acting in those spaghetti westerns wasn't top notch, but the action was great. It's a guy thing, I guess. The wife liked Bridges of Madison County. I couldn't stand it.
Clint was and is a much better director than he ever was an actor (personally I think his best acting performance was in either "Tightrope" or "In The Line Of Fire") in my view.
Tonight's spectacle was just sad.
Pretty pathetic that losers have to go on the attack when a person has a different view than theirs. Had he endorsed Obama, you tools would have had him walking on water. mindless minions
If this crap keeps up, only Faux News will televise the 2016 RNC. It's got worse ratings than Jersey Shore.
That had to be one of Clint Eastwoods best moments. I really enjoyed his humor.
You mean like the Right was castigating him when he did the Super Bowl ad Crystal?
And LOL at a cretin who's so frigging unaware and clueless that they post what "losers" and "tools" and "mindless minions" we are when we disagree with other people's views and then devolves into a scree of NOTHING but name calling.
The only loser and tool around here is YOU.
Sorry Clint but that was a horrible display! They could have just shown clips of Ronnie Raygun! At least they might have sounded slightly more coherent! :-)
Obama/Biden 2012
I like how MSNBC just collapsed the first run of comments by opposing views that enjoyed the convention.
Great moderators !
Too bad it's when a certain number of people report it that collapses a post. But I guess you'd rather blame it on moderators:)
PatinBoston...you asked us to name one thing the Rebubs have done in 4 yrs. At least they passed a budget every year something Harry Reid and the dems have refused to do for the past 3 yrs.
Actually, the President presented a budget to Congress but Republicans amended it before it was brought to the floor and then presented the amended budget as the President's. Dems refused to vote on it because of the amendments (which they disagreed with), while GOP refused to vote on it because it was supposedly the President's budget.
Gail TX Did you ever read what was in their budgets - I suppose not - get rid of Obama Care - another one abortions limited not to rape or incest another one - the Key stone pipe line - and on and on
So Gail how can any thinking person accept their poison pills and they knew these were unacceptable and they went on and on knowing full well they would be rejected
And now they can say well with a straight face we gave a budget - not
Please Gail the Republicans for thirty years plus have been playing the same game - and the only thing that stands between these games are the Democracts
Don't be deceived we've been here before
FAUX "News" Lies!
Boy,, did that suck.
Yep. Did Mr. Eastwood offer a few of his rambling bon mots to anybody before he took the stage? Apparently nobody in the RNC could've guessed he'd gravitate to "f-yourself" jokes.
It's a Grand Old Party. Someone should've called Clint a taxi and sent him home to sleep it off.
keeter, the repubs have done nothing else but "f" us and the country for so long that they now do not know how to do anything else. It's in their DNA.
The Whole problem with any Republican that speaks is they can't tell you what they sand for, other wise you won't vote for them and that stands for them as well as us. f they tell you their policy. you won't vote for them...So this Convention, they throw out the red meat of hatred and fear and hope you don't notice that it's Bush/Cheney's policies
Not as bad as Sharptongue, Wright, Pelosi & all the other libtards are going to sound!
I can't wait until they start talking about their accomplishments!
Which are? (crickets)
better get your hearing checked, laker. accomplishments of the current administration are many, and profound. if all you hear is the sound of crickets in response to that question, you are either talking to a bunch of people brainwashed by the constant listing of irrelevant and dislikable people like the ones you mention by silly euphonysm, or you, yourself have been made deaf by that overwhelming sound directed at the stupid. check your 401k value, for starters. then, go to the fate of most wanted terrorist who killed 3000 americans on our soil under the previous administration's watch, then hid successfully during the remainder of that administration despite being the tallest man in Pakistan, and despite many billions of OUR national treasure being handed, by the Cheney/Bushies to his protector (for what?, one might reasoably ask). From there, the list goes on and on. This, from a lifelong and proud (until Dubya) Republican.
Accomplishments of the current administration are many? hahahahahahahahahaha so why isn't your empty suit running on those "many" accomplishments? crickets -- all day long! Oh in case you don't know you may want to read the Seal book on the raid --- after all they were there on intel gathered over years -- from the Bush admin. O blames everyone for everything but takes the credit from Bush intel and the Seals excellent work. Yeah what a guy!
He's not "[my] empty suit", but, I suspect he will run on those accomplishments over the course of the campaign. I, myself, haven't decided for whom I will be voting. On one hand, the incumbent has shown that he puts America first, and we have gained considerable ground from the mid-nuclear winter that Cheney and Bush handed him. On the other hand, we have the guy who invented the healthcare system that his own party so vilifies, but who (thankfully) says that he wants America to succeed. I will take him at his (most recent) word on that score as I weigh the choices. And, regarding the killing of bin Laden, it seems to me that only a fool would believe that the prior administration had anything to do with it. In fact, how can you not wonder if they actually wanted -- and maybe acted -- to keep the bogeyman alive, so that they had something from which they could "protect" us?
FAUX "News" Lies!
Interesting to see all the applause from the Blight Wing for the Man From Hollywood after all the flak given Obama over any support from anyone else from Tinseltown.
Hypocrite much?
jwc2blue
remember the old line "only an idiot likes blue"
the blight wing must refer to obama as he has caused the blight
eastwood ate his lunch
Huh?? Eastwood was incoherent and babbling.
Dream on TEXAN - Eastwood was having a Mirapax moment
Also interesting is how long they have stayed on script since January 2008. After devising a plan to stop anything the President tried to do, at the cost of recovering from a depression and then have the gall to blame everything on his policies was a disaster.
If you haven't seen what the GOP has done, you haven't paid attention.
No, I don't.
So I Googled it.
Nothing.
So like the rest of your post, I guess you don't know what you're talking about.
What a surprise.

I'M glad you have such trust in google

satire at its best
Yeah. Because the word "blue" was in the search.
Do you even have a clue about how search engines work?
Go ahead and provide a link that shows your "quote".
You should type in "voter suppression"and see what you get.
It may well be that I'm watching one right now.
"Satire" isn't the word I'd use to describe it.
United,
"He was incoherent and babbling"
You must have been one of the three monkeys-you know, the one covering its ears? His talking points were audible to me, and he spoke the truth. I know you are faining your inability to comprehend due to your liberal allegiance. That is very transparent. True, as an Octogenarian, Clint doesn't deliver his words as smooth as he would 40 or 50 years ago, but would anyone? Did you call him senile in one of your posts-I know many have. This indicates that the lefty's "compassion" for all is a ruse. You probably practice senior abuse as well, right? Did you hit your grandparents as well? You and the remainder of your clan simply cannot process without a Jim Jones/Obama style delivery which makes you all warm, you know- "down there".
One minute of Clint contains more class than you will ever muster in your entire lifetime.
jwc
So I Googled it.
Nothing.
1] I've used search engines since day 1
2] i also know that google does not use what in the 1990's was direct search
it uses what was called floating search that's why the exact format may not show up on page 1
3] google is good for general searches not for exact searches
4] never answer with the word nothing also explain what protcol you used
5] to prove your search is on float do the following
a] type in any 5 or greater word phrase
read search number
b] remove any word hit search again
c] replace word in the exact same position hit search again
if the search number is not exactly the same
point game
That's because the majority of Hollywood, including directors and investors ARE liberal democrats and guess what -- they have $$$ in Swiss accounts and the Caymans but notice that doesn't bother you people like it does over Mitt's money.
Hypocrite much????
Blah, blah, blah. How delightfully Blight Wing. When truth eludes you, deflect and obfuscate.
So, Mr. Search Engine expert. I guess that your little useless search engine tutorial is how you deflect from your utter inability to provide the link that I asked you for.

No Jo,
I agree. Eastwood was awesome! NBC and Obama could only hope to do half that good without a tele-prompter. His reference to "no I don't think he can do that to himself" was hilarious!
I totally agree. It was satire at its best and I will remember what a great job Clint did off the cuff.
"Off the Cuff" - more like - "Off his Meds"
@Man of Steel:
Do you really think Clint had the #@lls to get up in front of the GOP and make a satire of the whole thing? That's hilarious.
Remember ...Clint is an Actor playing a great part tonight. Quit picking on him!
Clint Eastwood was great. Very funny. He was playing more than a part, though. He was saying what middle of the road, conservatives, think. And, despite the negative comments, did a fine job.
Exactly triple!!!!!!!
crazy mukwa - did you not think Willard used a teleprompter - you sir are a joke
yes they both use teleprompters but so far I didn't see Mitt using one to address a bunch of kids! You deary ARE a joke!
FAUX "News" Lies!
LOL......his acting just "ain't what it used to be". Go home Clint. You were on the "wrong" side!!
Obama/Biden 2012
There is no wrong side in America only someone with a small mind making small minded comments.
At the end of the day, BOTH parties are nothing but politicians who are very skilled at telling people what they think the people want to hear and then doing whatever they want to do anyway. If politicians would stop blaming each other and arguing over every letter of every proposal for getting us out of this mess, we might have a chance.
maggidtr
good post and you are right however, that is where Ryan,Martinez, Rubio,Haley, and the rest of the new governors are doing.
The establised Repupuplicans are being replaced by ones working on getting the country restored as a capital republic. which is what are patriots fought for.
I don't think you would put him down if he were appearing at the Dems Convention next week!
Yes, Judi. This wasn't about whether I agreed or not with him. It was like watching my old grandfather try to remember a war story in front of a crowd when he forgot his notes. It was embarrassing no matter what he wanted to say. Get a script and sound on track and focused, and then try something.
You're embarrassed by your grandfather ?
Ram: Watch his whole speech. He was definitely focused in what he was saying...you just didn't listen.
I agree, ad-405272, Clint was very focused and made his points well and with a lot of humor included.
Judi Reily Klein - We do not need Clint Eastwood - at our convention we have enough of cognicent speakers not to dredge up a poor soul who in my thoughts - the Republican Party has shamed him
I like Clint Eastwood and to parade him like that was a shame to your party - but your party has no shame
That's Right Barbara... You've got cognizant speakers like Eva Longoria...
If any of the speakers at the Democratic convention ramble like that, I will have the exact same reaction...WTF was that?
Eastwood is 82 and it's not time to get rid of Obama....it's time to get rid of Clint. Dirty Harry no more!
What does his age have to do with it? You either liked his performance or not
I agree, Judi.
Eastwood was stranger than fiction!
NO MORE OBAMA!!!!
What I found the most telling was the Romney campaign putting out a statement about their colossal mistake of allowing a rambling speaker who appears to be a dementia patient before he was even off the stage. Congrats Romney campaign, notice we are all here this morning talking about the ramblings of a clearly past his time actor instead of your past his time candidate. Just can't seem to get anything right can they. LMAO
Dirty Harry -- oh you mean Reid, you're right he's dirty along with Nancy and let's not forget the empty suit. Dirty and Corrupt. The free ride of the lazy is coming to end looks like everyone will need to EARN their fair share instead of picking the pocket of the taxpayer! hee hee hee makes me a happy happy girl!
Please Romney's foreign policy team is a bunch of Bush folks redux. More stupid wars that make rich men even richer with our debt burden becoming even more ludicrous. Obama got in because Bush was so bad, now we are going to vote in another Bush clone to continue the disaster.
Obama got in because millions wanted to prove to themselves they weren't racist, had nothing whatever to do with the job done by Bush. Although I agree with you that the war in Iraq (notice I said war in Iraq, not war with Iraq) was an unnecessary distraction from where we should have been concentrating, the people who actually attacked us, it was at least approved by congress as the constitution says, unlike the conflict in Libya that Obama got us embroiled in which was only approved by the UN, not congress. Which only goes to prove we'll have more stupid wars no matter which party wins and rich men will get richer, which isn't a crime by the way, and our debt burden will become even more ludicrous as you put it. But to continue with the same policies that have demonstrably shown they don't work and expect different results is the very definition of insanity. I'll take my chances with Romney though to be honest I would rather have had just about any of the other GOP candidates win the nomination, I personally don't like the dirty politics used by both Romney and Obama.
Robert 3107100 : I disagree with you that the reason you state was Bush being so bad, though that was definitely a major determining factor for many people. I also feel that his oratory skill, his recognition of what the problems truly are and mostly what I personally perceive as his dedication to the common man rather than the elitist few as being the ones he represents. Those rich fat cats have not actually suffered, they have in fact prospered, largely at the expense of the common person who tries to work for a living in what has become an ever increasing hostile environment. Romney is also far from being just a Bush clone, he is much worse and dangerous...he is the tool of those who would create an oligarchy in this nation, he is willing to destroy our rights and freedoms to enhance his net worth, vampire capitalism, no longer a system where there is fair exchange, value for value, but a very lopsided dominion obsessed with power, wealth and greed.
Why is it greed to work hard for the family, and become prosperous? Isn't that what we all aspire to?
A great job, good pay to be able to save for the future and our families?
Judi, no one said it was. Yes, we do, and yes, that would be nice. Unfortunately medical bills and other financial factors have made that seriously hard to do. No one said it was greed...you must be listening to those who make a large enough amount of money to avoid paying fair tax rates compared to those who don't make much. Funny how those who actually can afford to pay taxes whine about it the most and go hide it. That is where the perception of greed comes in. Somehow whining about only having one hundred million instead of the eight hundred million a person wants makes him/her look greedy when the middle wage family isn't whining working two jobs and doing without. And yes, they do pay taxes. There are many kinds of taxes.
The point is to regulate financial institutions who do have enough money and plenty of greed so that they treat consumers fairly and to have decent healthcare so people don't go bankrupt or broke trying to pay basic bills. The middle and lower income people care about those things because it is survival and that chance to work, prosper, and grow, and even to save. The ones at the top can pay medical bills and afford to pay cash or have a line of credit to use, and if they have it all tied up somewhere that is their own choice.
And GAW, your idea that people voted for Mr. Obama because they didn't want to be thought of as racist is wrong, and it is silly. Did someone come into your voting booth and watch to see what color of skin your candidates had? If you didn't tell people no one would know who you for and thinking he was elected because he is black is just silly. You really think a whole country of non-black people voted him in just to appear to be open-minded? Lol...funny.
I personally do not like Obama but will vote for him, Romney will return to Regan Bush policies things will turn around for the rich and only the rich.
Judi, what Romney-and other vulture capitalists-did was to loot companies, outsource the jobs which bankrupt a company then "re-consolidate the assets". In other words, the pensions and other assets that thousands of workers WORKED HARD FOR TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES are then divided by the "restructuring team" (the looters) who can legally take that money and keep it because the company is no longer solvent (since the restructuring team ruined it for their own selfish profit).
THAT'S what people are complaining about, not legitimate business owners who make a sincere profit providing a product or service. What Romney-and those like him-do is predatory, immoral and very, very greedy as he bankrupts families and ruins lives and careers. It's called vulture capitalism for a reason.
Romney is a "job creator" just as much as "war is peace".
Ram, I didn't say they voted for him so others wouldn't think them racists, no one would know for whom they voted unless they told them, I said they voted for him to prove to themselves they weren't racist.
Poor Clint.
Was hoping for more from Clint. Dread seeing what SNL will do with this & with Ann. Still like my GOP folks, though!
It may be halftime in America, but @Eastwood— seems to have left the game early!
Early?! The old guy's 82.He probably was confused and really thought that President Obama was in the chair.Someone needs to get Clint on some nice Aricept and buy him a personal alarm so they'll know if he tries to wander out of the house again.
Wait till you are 82...hope your comments don't come back to haunt you! Shame, shame, shame!
How do you know I'm not past 82 ?
Because of your sophomoric comment. That's how.
This is the kind of respect that democrats give to seniors in this country??? Make nasty cracks about a man not because he is alledgedly "senile" or whatever, but because he DARED to disagree with your beloved Obama!!!!! Because he told the truth as he see it, he stated he loves his country and wants to see it restored to some semblance of it's former glory and that he believes Romney/Ryan is the ticket to do it. IF that makes him washed up, in need of meds, needing to hit the retirement center etc.. than I'm damned ready to join him as well!!! How dare some of you people disrespect a man, an elder, a senior just because you don't like his politics. Obviously, many of you have parents who failed miserably in teaching you any respect or values!!! NEWSFLASH-Eastwood didn't come from money, he made his own and not just by acting. He is a damned astute business man himself and probably has a hell of a lot more knowledge of government than most of you posters!!!!
I loved this speech! It was Clint to the bone because Clint doesn't give a rat's tu tu about what the libs think - much like most conservatives. He was effective with the "time for you to go" and the "23 MILLION people out of work". The libs are whining, why did they ruin the convention with Clint? MSNBC saying, why didn't they have George W? Really? Are you serious? Clint got the WORLD talking about the night. And that is what a welcome change from an utterly forgetable, scripted president.
That's okay democraps, you got the great eva longoria to listen to next week. The star of that stupid show desperate housewives. I'd listen to her over Clint only if she was standing there naked in front of those dopes that'll appear in charlotte next week.
Johnny, nice to see your priorities for watching someone at a national convention. You sound so ... republican.
The place you're from tells all about you. By the way, nice red sox team this year.
The place I'm from? I'm from the United States of America. As far as the Red Sox I was just away on vacation far far away. And the texts I got from family/friends were BREAKING NEWS stories to apprise me of the cleaning of house of the Red Sox. Which is always a good thing for any team that has seen better days (seasons).
Yeah JohnnyB29...we all hear you, methinks thou art possessed by the evil influence of that evil drug of choice of the republican party, maybe even overdosed on it ... you know ... Viagra ... Your comment is also extremely demeaning to women, another republican trait.
The next convention will be like the movie "Ground Hog Day" all over again. I have already seen it !!!
Ryan / Romney 8 years
VIM
you must be tuned into woman hater Shultz on MSNBC= the comment was Eva is not a well known actor as Clint. Desperate House wives only appeals to a small crowd.
Republicans demeaning to women is an outrageous comment. tell me how many female Republican governess are in office and ones running this year that are female.
As a matter of Martinez of new Mexico is the first Latino female Govenor in history who happens to be one of the new Republicans.
Oh john, do you really think that Eva is on the same fame status as Eastwood? Are you 23 or something? No matter who said it..how many awards does she have? I have never seen her in anything and wouldn't know her if I passed her on the street. And yes, Desperate Housewives appeals to a particular demographic, whereas the movies Eastwood has been in and directed are famous and have been for years. How funny to compare the two and not see his long history of fame compared to her little show that according to the premise takes, I'm sure, Oscar-winning performances...lol.
And yes, the Republican party platform is demeaning to women.
Who was that rambling, shambling, whispy haired old geezer? And what on earth does he have to do with an ordinary person's life? That was the most pathetic, embarassing appearance I have ever seen. This is the republican party for you - rich old geezers whose only touch with reality is in a fantasy where there are multiple re-takes, make-up retouches, and someone else's words so you don't look like the confused old remnant you really are. Sad, sad, sad.....
truth hurts? When someone is not doing their job, it's time to let them go. point made.
Then why did you hypocritical republican's ever give George Bush eight years. He did not do his job from day one. I guess that republican congress will have to go also because they haven't done their jobs for four years. point made.
If you say Joe Biden is a wispy haired old geezer I'll have to take your word on it.
In that case, I guess it's time to let Eastwood go.
Hair mussed up, rambling, mumbling - looked like hell. I noticed that his f--- you jokes didn't go over very well with the delegates. What a sad, embarrassing moment. Yet, he is a microcosm of the Republican Party.
Typical liberals calling people names and failing to see that your side has it fair share of losers. Mean and vindictive is your post, hope you feel better about your rambling. Clint Eastwood makes more sense without a teleprompter than President Obama with one and if Obama is without one then you have to put up with his constant stuttering.
Emulation
Thursday, August 30, 2012, Clint Eastwood is giving a speech at the
Republican National Convention.
Clint Eastwood. A highly respected movie director who, along with
certain other movie makers, has glorified violence to a degree of
popular acceptance.
Not satisfied with violence mongering among the masculine members
of our population, he went on to include women in his hard-hitting slices of
life by making and winning an Oscar for film about a female boxer.
Eastwood made a film called Magnum Force a few decades ago. This movie
is still often shown on TV. One scene shows a person hiding in the bushes
that overlooks a crowded swimming pool.
This person throws a smoke bomb down on the pool. The crowd’s attention
focuses on the smoke, then the ‘person’ opens fire on them with a weapon that
should not belong to anyone but a police officer. But, the person is a policeman!
Change the swimming pool to a movie theater, and you have the exact same script
that occurred at the Aurora Massacre in Colorado.
Clint Eastwood has claimed that If Michael Moore ever knocked on his door,
as he did with the leader of the National Rifleman’s Association,
he would shoot Mr. Moore.
And this sums up the gun culture of the USA.
If Michael Moore was the incarnation of Jesus Christ, as many think he is,
he would be shot if he dared enter the doors of the moneychangers.
"If Michael Moore was the incarnation of Jesus Christ, as many think he is"
Who on earth thinks that? Are you out of your mind? I swear you liberals are such idots. Just when one of you clowns makes a dumb statement another comes along and sets the bar even lower. It's amazing!
Johnny,
No one on the left thinks Obama is the Messiah, but people on the right state this all the time!
Micheal Moore is one fatf--- that is nothing more than having a few million bucks in his underware and tearing down this country when he was a union thug. And he is still doing it as a socialist statist.
Michael Moore is an overweight clown so please don't compare him to God. Moore might be a devil worshipper for all we know.
Look What happened to Germany They got a Madman Hitler!!!!!!!!!! Robme and Ryan are close second !!!!!!!!!
What a load of crap Kutlass!!!! Tht was just way out of line!
If you are not doing the job, turn it over to a bunch of extremists who cant even decipher the truth? That is what Clint Eastwood espouses. He does live in a make-believe world. He is concerned about his taxes. We used to worry about the extremists in the Middle East. We should be worried about them taking over in the USA.
Wow, I have never seen the type of hate and disrespect that is flowing in this blog and in this country. Who do you people think you are? Isn't it time both sides grow up and start working together to get this country back to where it should be? I voted for Obama in '08. I believed he would work to get this country moving in the right direction. I believed he would work with Republicans to bring this country to agreement on what steps were necessary to improve the recession. He goes out of his way every day to publicly criticize Republicans because they won't blindly follow is lead. No matter his party, he divides people. He puts Americans against Americans. He puts have-nots against haves. When did it become a crime to have money? This country was founded on people working to improve their lives, that's the reason they came here in the first place. The people in this country need to grow up and accept that the country needs help to regain it's prominence in the world. Stop bickering, stop name calling, grow up and get the country back in order.
What was that Clint????
..... it was the good ... the bad ...and the senile.
The good, the bad, and the one that said EXACTLY what millions of Americans are thinking and feeling. Get used to it MISCHIEF9.!!!!!!
I agree skrewd. The millions of you who follow the repubs are just like Eastwood. Senile off your meds crazies who can do nothing but ramble and talk to your imaginary friends. Thanks for admitting it.
When Dems have a star endorse them the Repubs have a cow and start mouthing their typical liberal conspiracy lines....but they use stars. Of course I couldn't expect them to see the hypocrisy in what they do....what I did expect was that if they wanted to use a star they would pick one that was still young enough to be coherent.
Yeah, the GOP just HATES Hollywood, except, of course, when they LOVE Hollywood. As usual, the GOP only cares about its own party and can't stand working for the good of our country.
yeah. like obama begging for coinage from the lib left in hollywood. and when the money well is dry. it is obama saying bye-bye. moving on to someone else, until they are used up. Don't think that the hollywood crowd are going to open their wallets. obama is dry in funds. romney has a stash. and gonna be using it starting tomorrow.
"obama is dry in funds. romney has a stash. and gonna be using it starting tomorrow."
Surprise, surprise; a Repooplican that is honest about his party buying the election. Who woulda thought?!
are you trying to say that the democrates care about our future, they can not even pass a budget through a demcratic senate, all they want is a blank check, Obama only wants to raise taxes not cut spending
Robert haven't you heard the gop said no to taxes and spending cuts love the way the reps say no to everything just to protect the rich.
Thank God that this network, the writers and the other liberal pukes that write here are the minority. What goes around comes around and Hope and Change is coming for Obama. The independents that have a brain, will be going for Romney and not the incompetent Obama.......67 more days and I can't wait to read the comments...
And will you come back and comment if Romney loses? Because right now there's no electoral math that has him winning.
...67 more days and you will have to rejoin reality...make sure you stock up on your meds beforehand.
You know what really pisses me off?
I as responsible American citizen have done my legal and financial obligation to my
country by filing paying my taxes on time. Now Romney has the gall to file an extension for 2011,
its not like he is doing them himself having to fill out hundreds of pages for tax loopholes and write offs, we don’t even know if he did his 2009 or 2008 taxes there not listed on his web site as being done. Why is it that Rmoney is not even responsible enough to file his taxes on time? A person with this irresponsible nature should not be running our country. Doing your taxes on time is the most basic responsibility of every American.
From Mitts web site:
In addition, Gov. Romney has released numerous financial disclosures since 2002, as required by law – which have also been posted on this site. There are 3 federal Public Financial Disclosures (from 2007, 2011, and 2012), and 6
Massachusetts Statements of Financial Interests (from 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007).
Financial Disclosures ??? Nothing about him paying his taxes, but no financial disclosure from 2008 and 2009. What happened in 2008 and 2009? Are these the years he applied for amnesty because he committed fraud or did not pay any taxes? I’ll guess the American public will never get full disclosure from Mitt.
Not responsible enough to file taxes on time , not responsible enough to be
President.
Obama/Biden
2012
WHY ..... Mittens just might be the first Presidential Candidate to go to prison for tax evasion .... he got amnesty once .... next time it might be the Big House and not the White House.
Look, his taxes are done for 2011, he just does not want to file and release until the last possible moment, so he can avoid flak for his shady dealings.
I don't understand why dems have to be so nasty, especially the media. Simply hateful.
read the posts, liberals are hateful miserable losers. When they are outdone, the turn into rabid wolves. pathetic
yesdog,
Look in the mirror, use some Windex if need be. The lies coming out of the Romney campaign are mindboggling!
@Crystal
Read YOUR posts numnutz. Talk about being blindingly unaware of one's self, you've taken it to an art form.
Or more accurately a level of retardation heretofore unknown to man.
The tax so=called issue is just a smoke screen to divert attention from the real issue: Its the economy stupid!!
WHY:Same old-same old. get some new material. Mischief: Obama receives 67,000 a month-67000 a month. from outside sources. And probably goes into a blind trust that would also be tax free and he doesn't have to show that. as they say in the navy "stow it."
And you know for a fact that Mr. Obama never filed for an extension? Guess what? It is very common practice for wealthy people with massive complicated tax returns to file for extensions. He still would have paid what his accountant estimated he would end up owing. This is done by people in all walks of life for any number of reasons. Grow up.
Romney didn't mention Afghanistan once. Clint mentioned afghan more and he was talking to an empty chair. how are we supposed to take him seriously when we are at war and he doesn't even mention it.
That is right and when you file for an extension you pay penalty's. It is not uncommon among people who run business's to have to file extensions. Damn you are busy running a business trying to make a living and it is hard enough dealing with the IRS. At least we pay taxes As an employee you get your w-2 and get on turbo tax and you are done. Try being an owner and keeping people employed and working. Thank God we have business owners left and filing for extensions. Clint said what many did not want to hear and he hurt some feelings. Get used to it. It's life.
I don't care if someone files for an extension. What I do mind is if someone running for President didn't get his done and won't show us previous years. This is important and I don't see how it is okay with some if he doesn't.
An extension is just an extension of filing the form, not an extension of paying the tax. You see, you liberals need to quit listening to your MSNBC talking heads. How come you aren't up in arms about obama's hiding of all of his records? You libs are a hoot.
"Voices in my head"...do you not realize that the wealthiest income earners in this country pay for MOST of the taxes??? They pay for you and me to have roads etc. Look up the tax statistics. Secondly Romney is not going to take away Medicaid. You have too many liberal voices telling you lies in your head.
so you think a man (Obama) should run the country when all he talks about is raising taxes not cutting spending, why don't you go ahead and give him all you got, I think I will Keep what I can for my family
I'm a small business person grossig under 250,000 a year. We file extensions every year. There isn't a damn thing wrong with it, it's perfectly legal and there are some very good reasons for doing so. NOthing shady about it!!!!
You must have a lot since you take home over 250K, so pay the extra 1k in taxes and look at it as paying Bush II debt he left us. He has cut spending and directed less profit to corporations in the health care business and more income should be spent on health care.
We don't need another Bush II in office, look at the damage he caused. We can't handle another recession and higher debt with Romney.
When you "swear" to uphold the Constitution, you darn well should do it!! Obama is no where near upholding the Constitution, he in fact has in many ways denegrated it! Time for change. When you don't do your job in the private sector, you get fired, why should it be any different in the presidency?
As far as taxes and extensions, it's a given right from the IRS, so who cares why!
He needs an extension because his finances are so complex that it probably takes a small army of accountants to figure them out given the complexities of the tax codes. You, on the other hand, fill out one or two sheets, and probably have a huge incentive to do so given you likely get a refund.
In this extremely divisive time, thanks to Obama, I read many entries where people in the lower income brackets claim they work hard. You may also believe you work hard. Good for you, but guess what? I worked harder! I got my bachelors degree while in the navy and my masters degree while working full time. I have not worked a 40 hour week in 20 years. Work weeks for my income bracket are 60 hours minimum and often longer. And on a salary, there's no overtime. It's just what you do to succeed.
Do not throw rocks at wealthy people because of what they have. They earned it by working harder than everyone else. Sure, there are celebrities and people like Paris Hilton that wouldn't recognize work if it bit them in the butt, but they are a tiny minority.
Why is it when Clint or Chuck state their opinion, Liberals go nuts, but when their version of wacky Hollywood say all kinds of wild accusations, they applaud? hmmm
Radical Liberals like @GOP Lies and @Beverly in Chicago are examples of those who scream fire and point away from the real issue's. They have nothing, NOTHING to show for the past four years of which they controlled all for two years and then the White House and Senate for the last two. All they can do is distract and yell "LIE!". Facts are so pletiful I could not even begin to show all on this admistration. Let me give it a start -
Sorry dude George W. Bush was actually the first on most of your "facts". This economy would be in better shape if your SS republicans weren't a bunch of ego maniacal, racist, cowards that deliberately said they would sabotage the presidents chances of getting the economy back on track. Even if it doesn't benefit them its not supposed to be about them its about helping the majority of Americans and your Republicans could give a crap about you! Plus how can you criticize this president without criticizing George Bush Jr? Your list would probably take up 3-4 pages of the comment board. If you even try and defend him your nothing but a sheep that follows a parties name blindly.
Mr. Eastwood's message rambled only to those expecting a speech about how many dollars they could pocket off the American people. Since he didn't say how much they would make, they were lost..
That's all our politicians know nowadays. Dollars. The only reason they are there.
Romney didn't mention Afghanistan once. Clint mentioned afghan more and he was talking to an empty chair. how are we supposed to take him seriously when we are at war and he doesn't even mention it.
Mike what do you know about war typical liberal don't speak about something you have no idea of the only ones Honorable enough that have brains to defend this nation are either Republicans, Independents or sometimes Jeffersonian Libertarians.
You just have to love Clint Eastwood. His comments were from the heart and not a typical teleprompter speech. He joked about Obama saying for Romney to go "%&#@ himself" just to poke fun at Joe Biden, the biggest clown of a VP in history.
Well said, Mr. Eastwood!
Have you no shame? The tirade was vulgar, disjointed and senile. But at least he wasn't trying to rewrite history as all the other speakers were. He was just in la-la land
Have you no shame? The tirade was vulgar, disjointed and senile. But at least he wasn't trying to rewrite history as all the other speakers were. He was just in la-la land
Boy the koolaid drinking Obummermites can't stand the truth .It is a sad day in America when so many are brainwashed into thinking this piece of cow dung needs to be re-elected
Kind of a strange speech, but who was doing all the yelling? Someone was hollering, "Don't touch me!" Was it Eastwood or Mitts? We've played it back several times and can't figure it out. My sis thinks it was in the audience, a Paulbot or something. I think it was on the stage. Weird.
It was when Mitt was coming and shaking hands when he reach for a man's hand and the man shouted out loud " Don"t Touch Me.!
It was a man way after the future president (Romney) walked by, a couple of rows up. Romney was nowhere near the guy. A total set up. I told my husband,"Watch that make the news in the morning!!" I was right! My husband didn't hear it.
What a load of bs Sharon.
