Romney to say: 'Now is the time to restore the promise of America'

In the remarks he'll make accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney will offer a harsh indictment of Barack Obama's presidency, as well as promise to create 12 million jobs in his first four years as president, according to excerpts released by his campaign.

"Today the time has come for us to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us, to put aside the divisiveness and the recriminations, to forget about what might have been and to look ahead to what can be," Romney is expected to say.

"Now is the time to restore the promise of America," he will add. "Many Americans have given up on this president but they haven’t ever thought about giving up. Not on themselves. Not on each other. And not on America."

More Romney: "I am running for president to help create a better future -- a future where everyone who wants a job can find one. Where no senior fears for the security of their retirement. An America where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads them to a good job and a bright horizon. And unlike the president, I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs."

Romney also talks about his faith.

"Like a lot of families in a new place with no family, we found kinship with a wide circle of friends through our church. When we were new to the community it was welcoming and as the years went by, it was a joy to help others who had just moved to town or just joined our church. We had remarkably vibrant and diverse congregations of all walks of life and many who were new to America. We prayed together, our kids played together and we always stood ready to help each other out in different ways."

And he makes a big pitch to women.

"My mom and dad were true partners, a life lesson that shaped me by everyday example. When my mom ran for the Senate, my dad was there for her every step of the way. I can still hear her saying in her beautiful voice, “Why should women have any less say than men, about the great decisions facing our nation?”

"I wish she could have been here at the convention and heard leaders like Governor Mary Fallin, Gov. Nikki Haley, Gov. Susana Martinez, Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice."

"As governor of Massachusetts, I chose a woman Lt. governor, a woman chief of staff, half of my cabinet and senior officials were women, and in business, I mentored and supported great women leaders who went on to run great companies."

Romney just joked that Obama promised to stop the oceans from rising, a reference to the almost universally accepted fact of anthropogenic global warming.

The audience laughed and cheered loudly. A real joke.

He accused Obama of sending jobs overseas.

He said "a free world is a peaceful world" without a hint of what a free world is or what we are prepared to pay to achieve it.

He's going to "care for the poor and the sick," while disposing of the Affordable Health Care Act "on Day One."

I expect Romney will take the White House and will have to sign whatever the Tea Party congress puts in front of him. I guess it's true that people get the kind of government they deserve.

Well I certainly don't feel like I deserved what I've had for the last 4 years! So that statement is false!

You are probably the most despicable person here to assume any liberal is on the dole - big news for you my husband served at the Berlin Wall - has a College Degree - earned six figures in his business

I worked since I was fifteen after school - married - have a degree in Economics at U of C - earned six figures plus have a Range Rover in my garage

Now you little piece of what I pick up in my back yard - take your assumptions and do what your hero Clint Eastwood said and do what he said

Plus you never read what other people say in response - you know why ? You are just a troll - go back under the bridge where you came from

In the interim go to Faux Entertainment they like brain dead people like you - Adios!

At 64 years of age...after having served for 22 years in the US Army as a combat arms officer/pilot...I cannot believe my eyes and ears! The Republicans are spouting propaganda, mis-information, lying, distorting the facts...in the military I was taught that this is the way countries are subverted! We need to be alert and wake up before its too late. I hope that everyone is seeing and hearing the same thing....and everyone goes out and votes for President Obama. We know what we have with him....and we need to let the radicals, war mongers, and those that avoided miliary service and then say for political purposes..that they wish they had served...it's all BS!!! These guys are lying and trying to deceive us. The only thing Romney did good in Massachusetts is health care and I thank him for that. His position on health care is uncompassionate and a travesty! As a senor I call on all senors to stand together..regardless of party affiliation...to not vote for Mitt Romney. When politicians lie as candidates...they have no credibility. We throw liars out of office! Not elect them! Thank you President Obama for being a compassionate, honorable, truthful hard working example that has made America great again...he has given us credibility again! Sorry George Buish...you lied about the WMD's and caused a lot of pain in the world....and I hope no one forgets the last Republican administration.

I thank you for you service sir. My daughter is currently serving. Unfortunately you have chosen to see only one side of the picture and for that I am sorry. If you research the figures for Obamacare - long term you will see that the cost to this country is irreparable. Unfortunately because Obama insisted it be passed immediately, those that signed it into law didn't read the whole law and many are just now finding out things about this law that are not fiscally feasible. Unfortunately the Democrats also like to scare seniors and it works. It's one of those things that I feel is really despicable. Also, if we throw liars out of office, then we will have to throw Obama out and I say that respectfully because he has lied. They all lie sir and if you are a senior you've been around long enough to know that. As for bringing up the WMD again, you are aware that the intelligence given to the President and others indicated WMD - he didn't make it up.

    Debby
I'm sure you're proud of your daughter. My son was a Marine and served in Iraq under Bush I. Having our kids in the military is scary but we are still proud of them. I hope your daughter does well.

But if you actually do research Obamacare you'll find that it's not the boogyman the Republicans have made it out to be. It's not perfect but it's a start. Those of us who have (and always had) health care insurance have been paying for those folks who don't bother forever. And while I'm all for a solid social safety net, people who can afford healthcare should pay for it. I know when my son was young I skipped meals for myself in order to pay for our health insurance. Back then we had deductibles and any time I bought anything the first question that came to the front of my mind was 'if is but this can I afford to take my son to the doctor?'..

I also have a very good friend who had two kids, both had cystic fibrosis. She had insurance when they were born (the whole family was covered under her policy since her husband's job didn't offer any). This woman was an engineer. But because her kids had such a horrible condition she was forever locked into that job. You see, per-existing conditions. So she was never able to go get a better paying job. And she constantly had to fight over each and every bill because she knew one day each child would run into the $1 million dollar cap.

That's not right. Nobody should be locked into a job, denied the possibility of bettering the life of their family due to something out of their control. Nobody should have to worry about backrupancy due to medical bills. Nobody under the stres of illness should have to devote all that time to fighting with insurance companies. They have enough stress.

And lastly, it comes down to personal responsibility. Something the Republicans are so fond of stressing. Well, personal responsibility includes paying for health care for your family and not putting it on the backs of everyone else just because you don't think you'll ever need it.

We are a better society than that.

Obama is a piss poor leader and actually leading? The arrogant of that man is what has caused people/congress to not want to work with him. On the Jobs bill he said pass this bill, pass this bill, pass this bill so many times before the bill was even presented. Then many of his own party would not go for it because it wasn't a jobs bill!!! How about Pelosi, pass this bill so we can find out what’s in it. Talk about not
wanting to come together to solve the country’s problems! Obama’s attitude: Somebody wrote this bill
and while I haven’t read it, I think it’s great and because I say so pass it or you are the bad guys. Four more years of Obama will KILL this country. Just look at the real unemployment rate known as “U-6″ 15%. Up from 10.6% when Obama took office.

At least Mitt will show up to work. Even Democrats in Congress compain that he does't meet with them very often. Mostly he just phones in.

I really enjoyed Mitt Romneys acceptance speech last night. In a convincing no frills manner Romney and Co. made his case in understandable terms that he possesses the competence this nation desperately needs to move ahead. Unlike Obama, (Greek columns) Romneys noble and unassuming manner projected his competence convincing many its time for real change. Hey! MSNBC libtards! Your taking handouts days may be numbered and Obama may be finally be sent back to where be belongs. Back to the streets with bullhorn and clipboard begging for money.

Romney leads by example. He doesn't just say a bunch of words and then
go golfing. He works hard at whatever he does and asks that of others he works
with. The comment by someone who worked with him in the past tells a lot. People love working with Mitt. They even follow Mitt when he changes jobs.
Why? Because he is respectful of others
opinions (men and women), encourages brainstorming and then makes a decision. Obama is a dictator. For the past year, he won’t even meet with
the Republicans! I guarantee Mitt will be
face to face with Senators and Congressmen of any party to work out solutions
        to this nations problems.

Romney & the GOP say the president has not delivered in the last 4 years. What about the GOP that did not do there jobs over the last 4 years to help the president work through all the problems that were created by the previous GOP administration. The only GOP mission for the last 4 years was to make sure the president failed so they can hope to regain control. The GOP makes me sick. The GOP should have done the job they were elected for and work with or help the president by coming up with constuctive help and/or suggestions, but they did not. The GOP will not get my vote for their performance over the last 12 years.

So, Mr. Rmoney, how about your tax returns! I don't even own a car. I live in a retirement community and you want me to pay more for my healthcare than I already do? Medicare is not free. There are millions of working poor out here...........how can you possible connect with us? I don't trust you, I really don't trust the GOP. You frighten me. The IRS loves Romney and his tax returns. Deep down inside Obama is grateful for the huge donation this go-getter provides. I don't trust Obama, my parents are retires and Obama is going to rob $70Billion a year from medicare to fund Obamacare. God help us all if this left wingnut is re-elected, he'll only move further to the left making 4 more years of stasis.

I assume your parents have Medicare Part C. Tell them to get rid of it and go with supplemental. Way less out of pocket. Oh, you need to read up on $70 billion, it was $716 billion take from Part C. You need to keep up with current events. On second thought, don't talk to your parents. You will just disinform them and add confusion because you do not seem to be up on current information.

Romney was successful in business only because of investors. Without them, he would be a CEO somewhere. It was the investors that suffered the loss if one of his adventures failed and they reaped the rewards of the survivors. Romney and Bain made their money regardless of the outcome of any particular company.

To me, that does not show a shrewd business man, only a man capable of persuading people to let him use their money. That does not convince me that he knows how to run a country. If anything, it convinces me that he sees an opportunity for riches, no matter the outcome of his administration.

Thinking this is what we want to hear, it is not. When will one bureaucrat ever stand up and tell the truth? Not in my lifetime. Mitty boy and Ryan Boy are no different, both legends in their own mind. Haven't got a clue what needs to be done, just pimps in front of the camera. Sad to say both are total losers.

The only people that have given up on President Obama, are the same that have been against him from the day after he was sworn in.

The ones like Romney and Lyin Ryan, who say he has not been a good leader, you know like 24/7 faux noise fear and hate fest we have all heard for the last 3.5 years.

All who have criticized him at every turn, who couldn't give him any credit even when OBL was killed, it was he trying to take credit, he's arrogant, would it have been better if he had flown in landed on an aircraft carrier with a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner? No credit for OBL, but blame for fast&furious, it's amazing to me.

These same people will make excuses for Bush, Cheney etc, they don't want to talk about the 8 years of Bush&Co.

If we would have had everyone working together, congress, senate, all states, trying to get this country back on track, but partisan politics put a stop to that.

If McConnal and Bainier think that we are going to forget, their #1 job was to make Obama a one term President, they are sadly mistaken!

America has a clear choice, Obama/ Biden with 4 more years of failing policies, or America's Comeback Team of Romney/ Ryan.
Mitt laid out a 5 Point Plan to get the economy growing and put people back to work. Obama offers 42 straight months of unemployment over 8% and more Americans out of work than when he too office.
Paul Ryan said "we can do this" and Mitt Romney showed us how.
Obama was a nice experiment but high expectations from a first term senator who spent most of that first term running for another office, were never met. Time for a real change.

                  kevster,

OK, tell me the great Romney plan for America's Comeback. You can't use tax cuts and slashing domestic spending, raising the military budget (more money for Romney's rich military industry) and going to a voucher system for Medicare. You cannot also use giving block grants to states for Medicaid because they will use the money to balance their budgets and cut Medicaid to the residents of the state. That pretty much used up mittens 5 points. Any thing new?

Posters who argue about this party or that party are blind followers of those given parties and would vote for them if the candidate was a goat. No one person as well as no one party is to blame for everything that happens. As much as the repubs aren't the only ones who back big business neither is obama the cause of the gas prices in the US. And as much as obama isn't the reason the stock market is doing well neither are the repubs the only that want to end higher taxes. Each of these parties has a platform which is much the same as a business having a business plan to run that business. Because one is a little more conservative and pro-business and has those values and one is a little more liberal and pro-government doesn't mean politicians can't deter from that plan occasionally. What the US needs right now is a leader that is going to bring good ideas to the table on how these things can be fixed and we can move forward. We need leadership that is not afraid to compromise or stand up against his opposition and convince them they are correct in their judgements. We don't need a leader who decides he will take matters into his own hands and try and fix it without consensus from the congress or the people. If you take into account leadership aspects to heal a nation that has major economic woes why would not pick someone who has run a business? Sure some of the business failed but others were quite lucrative. How do you learn if not by a few mistakes. The one thing that cannot be doubted is the leadership aspect and I believe that would have to go to romney. Now if you want pomp and circumstance and a powerful charismatic speaker vote obama. Who will do the better job to lead this country out of the doledrums we are in?

"I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs."

AND ONCE AGAIN...the politician....doesn't tell you what his PLAN is.

TWICE AGAIN...the politician...doesn't tell you what his plan is.

THRICE AGAIN....the politician...doesn't tell you what his plan is.

FOUR ...how many decades over the past fifty years...did a president, or presidential hopeful stated that "they have a plan." How many DECADES!

Presidents, and presidential hopefuls, DO NOT CREATE JOBS! They do not HIRE 12 million americans. Corporations hire americans. National business' hire americans. Grocery stores hire americans. Lumber stores hire americans. Reuters hires americans. Book stores hire americans. Colleges hire americans.

You understand what i'm getting at? American business, hires millions of americans EVERY YEAR! A politician hires an ass kisser. A politician hires a speach writer. A politician hires people that does SURVEYS. A politician does not hire 12 million americans.

All a politician does is make a LOT of promises, and learns the hard way like every other american does, that government only makes laws. That's it. Laws. Let me say that again, LAWS. Politicians make laws, and makes lots of promises. Romney promised a lot. Obama promised a lot. But then again, so did Bush Jr. and Sr. Bill Clinton. Ronald Reagan. Ford. Carter. Eisenhower. They all promised a LOT of crap. And pretty much all of them fell short on those promises.

Politicians make laws. They do not hire 12 million americans. And I doubt Romney was about to say that with congress' help, and the senate, that they'll be able to get things done. Romney doesn't have the FULL support of congress. He has a nomination. That doesn't mean, that they are going to agree with what he wants to do. Romney is not a member of the Tea Party, so he will not have the FULL endorsement of the Tea Party if he is elected.

So in essence, he lied. Even if he did become president, he does not have full support of the House or the Senate. And you need all three to pass laws.

That doesn't mean that they'll create a law telling every business in america, that they need to hire 12 million americans, or that they'll get fined or go to jail.

In that regard, for those of you who ate up Romney's speach last night...your a moron. Trade and cap. Gone, after he is elected. Clean water and air, gone after he is elected. That double your car mileage for vehicles, gone after he is elected. Watch over of banks and Wall Street, gone after he is elected. All those bills and laws that were passed, would be allowed to disappear or overturned, after Romney is elected. Drilling and fracking in national forests, would be pushed through, as long as it wasn't in a state belonging to a republican congressman. Wholesale timber sales to private organizations, would decimate national forests also. "It will create jobs," But not 12 million of them. And it wouldn't even begin to SUPPORT 12 million americans. Maybe 2,000-4,000 americans, locally...but not 12 million. Unless congress is stating that they intend to drill 100,000 oil wells.

I'm republican. And even I know, if Romney does get nominated as President, he'll have maybe a portion of republican controlled congress. He then has to sell his plan to the Tea Party republicans. And they are a picky lot. The democrats...wouldn't support one iota of any plan he's got, and he'd blame them for not helping get @!$%# done. Just like Obama is blaming republicans for not helping him get @!$%# done. It's a two way street people. "Oh well Obama fought us on everything, so he was impeding progress."

So if Romney is elected, he'll just state when passing his plan to make 12 million jobs, that "the Democrat controlled senate was impeding progress", and that's why nothing is getting done.

That's Romney. That's a politician. And that 12 million jobs, is a lie.

Romney will not hire 12 million americans.

American business' across our nation will.

So unless corporate america, business america, starts hiring people, it'll be four more years of the same old bull@!$%#. Lies. Deceit. Blame.

I'm republican, and even I willl not vote for Romney. Stating you have a plan, compared to actually sharing your plan, is what makes leaders. Romney is not a leader.

Thanks -keyorion for your honesty. I too was once a Republican but I found that party to be nothing but liars[my opinion]. I cannot believe the party of Lincoln is so stupid to choose Mitt Romney as their candidate. Of course I as a practicing Democrat now find it hard to look to any Republican as a worthy candidate as they all now are strictly -party man, party 1st and the hell with the common man. Mitt Romney is the biggest flip-flopper the Republicans have ever had. He will say anything to anybody, BUT THE TRUTH.........

                            OBAMA /BIDEN...... 2012

Aren't those politicians a crack up? They make all of these "rah, rah, sis boom bah" promises - just it's going to be the land of milk and honey time! Problem is, nothing ever changes. Well, I take that back; things change - but, for the worse! Meanwhile, back at the ranch, they're getting fat paychecks, perks up the wazoo and will walk away with pensions that ensure they'll continue to live like royalty after their career of bs is over, while the good majority of we who cast our vote for them struggle to keep from being swept into the abyss.

No WONDER they have those big, fat grins all the time and always want to hold your baby!

the only work the republicans did in the last 4 years was to fight President Obama on everything. Republicans vowed to have him fail to make them look good. Well to me they look like idiots across the board for holding the USA hostage for there actions of not doing the job they were elected to do. There track record for the last 4 years shows they are loosers

Romney to say " Now is the time to restore the promise to America"-------that promise...VOTE FOR BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA to continue our fragile recovery......but a recovery nonetheless, not like it was the last year and a half of George Worthless Bush's presidency...

                                OBAMA ==BIDEN , FORWARD.......RMONEY == LYIN' RYAN ...BACKWARD
