Romney to say: 'Now is the time to restore the promise of America'

In the remarks he'll make accepting the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney will offer a harsh indictment of Barack Obama's presidency, as well as promise to create 12 million jobs in his first four years as president, according to excerpts released by his campaign.

"Today the time has come for us to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us, to put aside the divisiveness and the recriminations, to forget about what might have been and to look ahead to what can be," Romney is expected to say.

"Now is the time to restore the promise of America," he will add. "Many Americans have given up on this president but they haven’t ever thought about giving up. Not on themselves. Not on each other. And not on America."

More Romney: "I am running for president to help create a better future -- a future where everyone who wants a job can find one. Where no senior fears for the security of their retirement. An America where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads them to a good job and a bright horizon. And unlike the president, I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs."

Romney also talks about his faith.

"Like a lot of families in a new place with no family, we found kinship with a wide circle of friends through our church. When we were new to the community it was welcoming and as the years went by, it was a joy to help others who had just moved to town or just joined our church. We had remarkably vibrant and diverse congregations of all walks of life and many who were new to America. We prayed together, our kids played together and we always stood ready to help each other out in different ways."

And he makes a big pitch to women.

"My mom and dad were true partners, a life lesson that shaped me by everyday example. When my mom ran for the Senate, my dad was there for her every step of the way. I can still hear her saying in her beautiful voice, “Why should women have any less say than men, about the great decisions facing our nation?”

"I wish she could have been here at the convention and heard leaders like Governor Mary Fallin, Gov. Nikki Haley, Gov. Susana Martinez, Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice."

"As governor of Massachusetts, I chose a woman Lt. governor, a woman chief of staff, half of my cabinet and senior officials were women, and in business, I mentored and supported great women leaders who went on to run great companies."

Oh Brother!

Here we go...

After Ryan's "pants on fire" speech last night, I had to take my BS meter in today and have it re-calibrated!

It will be interesting to see if Willard is as truthfully challenged tonight as his running mate!

a future where everyone who wants a job can find one.

Given Willard's track record, you better be packing to move overseas!

I am afraid his idea of RESTORE is simply returning to the W method of Governance; which can be directly attributed to the mess in the first place.

I believe he has 7 of W's 12 advisors on staff at this point. Just a matter of time before he hires the rest.

PS. If you look really close in the audience tonight, I think you can see Dick Cheney with his hand up Ryan's arse. A puppeteer, if you will. Or is that Grover Norquist? I can't quite make him out. Anyone else see that?

The whiteness of the Republican convention has been noted by many commentators, and has spawned the facetious Twitter hashtag #negrospotting.

"....where everyone who wants a job has one." Sure--you betcha--in the military fighting your interminable, unnecessary wars with no thought or concern about what havoc it wreaks on them and their families and no follow-up care afterwards. Sounds more like a plan to decrease the surplus population of the 99%!

Right. Let's start by re-electing President Obama and get rid of the obstructionist Congress who have stalled and filibustered trying to destroy this country so they can blame it on him. Nice try, didn't work. Ryan blew it last night with his speech filled with wrong facts and downright lies. Let's see how many times Mitt steps in his own sh!t tonight.

This time Romney lies last Ryan

FOX NEWS!!!!!!!!

Deceiving

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

Do not be fooled by these claims of 12 million jobs.

This was the same ruse employed by Rick Scott in Florida who promised 700,000 jobs.

And guess what? Florida is now -125,000 jobs !!!

So Rick Scott now needs to create 825,000 jobs.

------------

Romney will do the exact same thing. Within a year there will be net job loss just like there was in Florida.

We need to stay the course with President Obama. 4+ million jobs and still growing.

FORWARD

I am now just getting up to date on all that I have missed, and I see nothing has changed within the Republican Party. The biggest story I see is all the lies Paul Ryan told in his speech. The next story I read is how the usual suspects on MSNBC are pushing the GOP talking points about the Republicans being the party of diversity, even though their support from women, latinos and blacks is practically nil.

You want to talk about restoring America? Here's a story about restoring America. A story I will never forget.

I was sitting at the bar at JFK Airport waiting for my flight. The bartender was a latino woman who appeared to be in her 30's. She was someone who quite obviously was not into politics until 2008. I got to talking to her and asking her about some of the interesting people who must sit at her bar, killing time having a few drinks, waiting for their flights. She told me she meets very important and well known people on a daily basis.

She told me this one story that will stay with me always.

She said most people are quite nice (she particularly remembers Nancy Pelosi standing out as being very kind). She also said people will have a few drinks and then tell her she should go back to wherever she came from.

This was this one man several years ago who sat at her bar who she never forgot. She said he was so polite, so respectful and very interested in her life - where did she live, did she have children, who were her parents, where did she go to school, did she enjoy working at the airport, etc. She said he talked to her for about 1/2 hour and then he was gone. He made quite an impression on her because of his manner and genuine interest in her life. She never asked his name or anything. She never saw him again.

And then a few months later she's watching tv and sees this same man on television. Who was this man? Barack Obama.

She couldn't believe it. This man she had talked to months and months before was now running for the United States presidency. And since that day she said she has devoted herself to paying attention to all that is happening in America and most importantly, she said she planned on doing all she could to see him re-elected.

That is what our president's effect had on this woman who had no idea 4 years ago who this man was.

This is the story of restoring America. A man sitting at a bar, interested in a simple bartender's life.

That's the kind of man we want as our president. That's the kind of man we should always have as our president. And that's the kind of man we have as our current president. Barack Obama.

Obama. I wish that woman well. She will never forget that man. And I will never forget her.

_____________

btw way, Russia? Obama. Obama. Obama. That's all anyone wanted to talk about. Obama.

The Russian people told me every country in the world needs a Barack Obama and wished America well on election day in re-electing him.

That's restoring America.

Brianb-999431 allow me to simplify it for you. When ABC, NBC's ratings are down from the last election for the Republican Convention "means" that less people are interested in what the Republicans have to say - most notably swing voters who are more likely to watch ABC or NBC as apposed to the Right Wing Network of Faux News.

Ratings mean quite a bit when your are trying to "re-introduce" (AKA etcha-a-candidate) for the forth time and lie your way to the white house.

As critical as you are of politicians, I don't see how liberals don't use their critical skills to evaluate Obama in the same light as they do Romney. If they would simply open their eyes, they would be seeing things about Obama that they choose to ignore.

Who knows, maybe all the liberals on First Read have excellent jobs, perfect lives, live the high life and have acquired the ability to simply eradicate all the negatives of the past 4 years. Even if they do, I wouldn't want to be a liberal.

Last week was pretty bad.. the unemployment rate is officially at 8.3% so tell me how it's going down. You must enjoy the kool aid the liberals hand to you. Don't forget to fill up your thermos.

Tsk. What you see in operation is children reacting to adult supervision. They don't want to be responsible, they don't have to be responsible, Obama will take care of them. All their worries will be over, they won't have to think, work, sacrifice or do much of anything, Obama will provide.

On a related note, I am tired of the political games coming from both parties, tired of the rhetoric and BS and that is both sides of the aisle. I do believe that Romney cares for this country, unlike Obama who should have been secretary general for the UN, his focus is on the WORLD, in the same way that a negligent father will buy rounds at the bar while the family at home has no food or rent money.

Very true! Obama is incompetent at anything unrelated to getting reelected. He has been bad for the country, divisive, and a total failure as a leader. His blunders would fill pages, but among them are the Gulf oil spill, Fast and Furious, Solyndra, “Stimulus,” downgrading of our credit, and bowing to the Russians.

By contrast, Romney has demonstrated that he can take an organization that has been mismanaged to the point of bankruptcy and make it prosperous once again. His success rate has been nothing short of miraculous, and Romney is who we need to turn this country around, and not just make finger-pointing speeches.

I always love when conservatives tell us the President has been "the most divisive figure in politics ever"...well, actually, there may be some truth to that one...

Prove to me that all his business dealings ended up in everyone always losing their jobs? Do you know what venture capital is all about? I would say you haven't a clue... your ideology is driving your inaccuracies. You are listening to every liberal you can that has determined they don't want Obama to lose, therefore creating all these false impressions.

You need to get off the stuff... it's bad for your mental health. Let me say it again... Bain did more good for businesses than tear downs. Only if a business couldn't make it, were the assets sold off, but before they were, the owners were paid a percentage of what was left over after all debts were paid.

Stop listening to these liberals that THINK they know how this sort of business is run.

The chief executive needs experience that is related to the business of this country... a whole lot of it is business related... operationally related and logistically related. Obama has zero experience, even after 4 years of sitting in that seat. His path has proven it. He has driven up the national debt by $5.3 Trillion, kept unemployment above 8% and divided this nation. He promised to do great things but has done the opposite...

The question I have for you, don't you respect this country more than that? Don't you feel one bit of shame for the economic devastation we are undergoing right now? Where the president hasn't done anything to correct the course. So far all I see from you is this incoherent support for a failure. Maybe you like failures... maybe you like the president to do his level best to kill this country... after all he did write "Dreams of my Father." His father was a communist... Maybe you subscribe to that ideology too.

Fox News had this to say about Paul Ryan's convention speech on August 29th, 2012

                        • On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan's speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

                        http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/#ixzz254a2euWo

I bet the unemployed or those about to lose their homes really don't give a crap about his tax returns.

Yes we do care about the economy. But recall the elections of 2010. The tea baggers screamed jobs jobs jobs. They got the majority of the House. What did they do. 45 bills against abortion, 33 votes on repeal of Obamacare, countless bills on repeal of EPA regulations (who cares if the Cuyahoga catches on fire again). This is what we will get if the "all about the economy" republicians get control of the House and the Senate. Remember Scott Walker of WI. All he wanted to do is to do away with the public sector unions. So don't lay that crap on me about Romney's tax returns are not important. What kind of a person is he??

Promise, what promise? You mean like the contract on America where you vow to make America a 3rd world country. Or could it be the return to feudalism where the few have everything and the serfs serve the lord and master? No, I know which it is to bring Fascism to America. If it's any one of these you're well on your way.

Both sides tell lies, especially in campaigns, but Ryan and Romney seem to tell more of them than anyone in history. Comparable, perhaps, to Josef Göering and his big lie told enough times thingie.

They say they have a plan but not one iota of a hint what that plan might be other than more tax breaks for the wealthy and gut every safety net program, oh and probing women's private parts.

Mitt Romney is a sociopath that will say and do anything to get what he wants. A vulture capitalist was the perfect job for him but there is no place for a sociopath in the White House.

No offence to the good people of Wisconsin but one can wonder what's in the water up ther as it seems every few decades or so they produce some nutburger. Not long ago they produced Joe McCarthy and now Paul Ryan, not to mention their loco Govnah. Oh well, these two will be shamed and seen for their folly just like Tail Gunner Joe was back in the 1950s.

OK Adler-273784 since you liberals never make things up or say things that aren't true - show me the medical records with the diagnosis of sociopath. And as for saying and doing anything to get what he wants - a perfect example of that is Obama wanting to keep his job in the White House - never seen anything quite like it. So, unless your candidate is perfect, you really shouldn't be calling names on the other candidate. It's petty and makes you look ridiculous. And as for something being in the Wisconsin drinking water - where are you from because I'd be checking your drinking water.

Can Romney or Ryan tell the truth?

                            FOX NEWS!!!!!!!!

                            Deceiving

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

Great citation if you're a brain dead drone, like you. Sally Kohn. What a f'ing joke she is. Fox allows her to spew her bullsh!t because they allow both sides to be fair and balanced.Sometimes I think they go to far. She's a psycho lib who shouldn't have a platform. I think that's why they give her one, to demonstrate how idiotically crazy the left is.

Isn't it hilarious how the loons will cite FOX when it suits them. The one they claim lies. Did you check with the dum fuk before posting?

Mitt Romney is a sociopath that will say and do anything to get what he wants.

You gotta be kidding (yes I know, you aren't).

Sorry, but that is what losers do, not legitimately successful people.

                                    Barack Obama:

Alias Barry Soetoro pawns himself as Barack Obama, the humanitarian, the POTUS, the campaign for hope and change. But we know better. Barry is a radical Marxist who was raised by Communist parents and Communist grandparents. His mentors were known Communists, his contacts in college were strictly Marxists supporters, Marxist professors and a group of Pakistani activists as stated in his book, “Dreams From My Father”.

Barack Obama, tell us about Frank Marshall Davis or Bill Ayers. Surely you remember Mr. Davis. After all, your mother knew him all too well. Mr. Ayers, a known terrorist, responsible for at least a dozen bombings, helped your early Illinois campaign by raising money, thru his organization Underground Weather. Tell us about your trip to Pakistan (’81) with Pakistani Wahid Hamid.

Share with us your ideals of socialism, after all you’re a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), referred as the “New Party”. Please tell us why you have been influenced by the writings of Karl Marx, the prelude to Communism. Share with us your association with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Do you justify this man’s message by condemning our country by saying, “God bless America? No, God Damn America”? Was this a forethought supporting your belief in Marxism?

Are these the individuals who have inspired you to public office? Are these the individuals who have inspired you to plot against the United States? Are they the people for whom you’ve entrusted your Muslim faith?

Please tell us why you mocked the Holy Bible and Jesus’ sermon on the mount, calling the sermon a radical message. You have mocked Christianity and this country. Barack Obama, you have betrayed this nation and all its’ people. Your skin is dark because of your race, but your soul is darker because of your deception.

United States of America………………YOU didn’t build it Barack Obama.

......And I will bring rainbows and lollypops to all children....

This guy is rich, and not just with cash, and overseas tax shelters. Make no mistake though folks, Romney and deep pocketed slime machine have made a brash, political calculus in the cold light of day that just may work; LIE, RINSE, REPEAT. These aren't the usual campaign exaggerations, these are the real thing - STRAIGHT UP LIES.....Really Paul Ryan??? See Politico's column today by Governor Grandholm. These cats are no joke, so we need to step up our game folks. AS much as Romney is a bumbler, he is a win-at-all-costs player. Don't let the leave it to beaver family fool you - this guy is ruthless. ("nobody asks me for my birth certificate"...Truly appealing to the most unamerican among us).

They have a zillion dollars to look straight into the camera and tell you the world is flat - and guess what - that's exactly how they PURCHASED the nomination. Romney had to outspend Santorum 8 to 1 to win his HOME state by 3 percentage points!!! He did not win the hearts or minds of anyone...He is now attempting to buy the white house mailing address. The hope is that fair minded, casual voters glaze over with the onslaught of ads until some talking head will invariably say - there is truth stretching on both sides, lets get back to the issues........

Wrong. It's not both sides folks.

Trust me - he may win it if the dems don't punch in. It's a brilliant strategy to LIE and say they won't be governed by "fact checkers".. And when the media calls them out, they just say they are biased like they always have been. Throw in some voter I.D. laws in some key states and voila! Romney wins. Cynical but effective.

Dems / Obama team, here is some free advice - You had better have our candidate forcefully make the case that he clearly believes that we are on a path which is fiscally unsustainable. The republicans OWN this argument (and ironically most of the responsibility for the deficit by the way, but who's counting). If Obama cannot AGAIN articulate clearly what his plans were that were thwarted by the house, or what his revised plans are to reduce the debt, you had better get used to saying president Romney.

Like the republicans have on medicare (inexplicably), the dems have to fight this war on republican turf and go hard at outlining the deficit reduction plan so everyone understands the democrats aren't just a bunch of whiners protecting the lazy folks out there, and they are serious about tackling the debt. Unlike Paul Ryan - who was a laughable little frat geek last night. Presidential? Not so much.

Rice's speech was presidential - I disagreed with the trillions of dollars she wants to spend that we don't have to be the police of the world, however what a contrast with the petulance of Ryan. But I digress.

Lastly get the flip-flop archives out showing Romney taking both sides of every key issue over the last 8 years, and all the footage of Ryan lying into the camera. Two straight months of it. You can't be the president if you don't have core beliefs, and you can't be vice president if you are a straight up documented liar.

Let's get to work dems. They have some deeeeep pockets.

Silly me---I thought the election of President Obama was about restoring the promise of America. Little did I know that the racist dog whistles would continue and that the Republicans would harm us all in order to prevent his re-election. Thanks but no thanks, Mitt. Your kind of promise I don't need.

Jobs we do not need. We need more food stamps perhaps 4 years of UN-employment. Also bird chopping wind mills are a great Idea.

We also need 4 dollar a gallon gasoline, High food prices. And 8 plus unemployment

Yes Obama is your man if you want 4 more years of no ideas and to go forward over a cliff to total destruction.

College grads if you enjoy your parents basement vote OBAMA. If you want to start your life as a young adult vote Romney....

Racist dog whistles? What does that even mean?

We all know which ideology the racist identify with, the same one Obama does, the head racist in the party of racists.

No one is listening to your "dog whistle" bullsh!t except the loons who work for (Matthews, Todd) and watch (you and the rest of the loons on FR) MSNBC.

                                          Give it up.

                                          Sorry, no soup for you!

                                          From the article above:

More Romney: "I am running for president to help create a better future -- a future where everyone who wants a job can find one. Where no senior fears for the security of their retirement. An America where every parent knows that their child will get an education that leads them to a good job and a bright horizon. And unlike the president, I have a plan to create 12 million new jobs."

                                          Let's break this down,

President Obama's 'The American Jobs Act' got rejected by the Tea Party House of Representatives. That would have created millions of jobs.

Franklin D. Roosevelt created Social Security. The Democrats have kept it going for over 75 years. Tea Party wants to eliminate Social Security with a voucher system.

President Obama has strengthened Social Security, Medicare and The Supreme Court of the United States of America has Upheld the Constitutionality of the Patient Protection and AffordableCare Act (PPACA).

Democrats have been the leaders in advocating Public Education since its inception. Republicans
have been trying to privatize public education for decades with a voucher system.

President Obama's policies have been creating jobs for the past 3 ½ years.

Sorry, Governor Romney. But we already have a President who is doing all of those things to help AMERICA right now.

President Obama is a GREAT AMERICAN, a LOVING HUSBAND, and FATHER to two beautiful children. President Obama is ONE OF THE BEST PRESIDENTS THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER HAD.

President Obama is leading in the Electoral college, and he will be re-elected easily. We must focus on ENDING the Tea Party's obstruction and regressive reign in the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

All of my Eisenhower/Reagan Republicans, Independent, and Democrat American freinds know that President Obama is the ONLY choice to KEEP THE MIDDLE CLASS, KEEP OUR DEMOCRACY, AND KEEP AMERICA STRONG.

                                          Salud.

You fail to mention that American jobs was stimulus 2.

If the first 850 billion of borrowed money did not work why did you need number 2

Weird how you all fail to tell the truth.

You're right, that first 850 billion didn't help anything. That's why GM and Chrysler went belly-up and we lost two-thirds of the Big Three. It's also why we lost a big chunk of the banking and insurance industry.

... oh, wait ... we didn't? My bad. Guess that stimulus kind of worked, huh?

So, quit guessing and thinking you know what he's going to do or planning to do. He won't be doing it by himself. That's why he has a staff & people working with him - to help him get it done. Actually, you're the one that sounds like a war monger with that comment.

                                                        America is wide awake.

Democrats, Eisenhower/Reagan Republicans, and Independents are voting for President Obama.

                                                        Salud.

Speak for yourself buddy. I'm an Independent and I know a LOT of other Independents who are all voting for Romney. Try not to make those all inclusive statements - they are incorrect

                                                          No debby,

I am an independent and am with tomasgrande. Lot of my collegues are also for Mr. Obama. So this is not an inconclusive statement. I judge them correct.
