Clint Eastwood confirmed as RNC surprise guest

Actor and director Clint Eastwood has been confirmed as a surprise guest Thursday night at the Republican National Convention.

Director/actor Clint Eastwood accepts the award for Distinguished Collaborator onstage during the 14th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards With Presenting Sponsor Lacoste held at The Beverly Hilton hotel on February 21, 2012 in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Eastwood recently thrust his support behind GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who will receive his official nomination at the convention tonight.

Earlier this year, a Chrysler ad narrated by Eastwood that aired during the Super Bowl appeared to endorse President Barack Obama, prompting the actor to respond that he was not backing either candidate. He then went on to voice his support for Romney earlier this month at a fundraiser in Idaho.

Eastwood will address the convention Thursday night in Tampa, Fla., before Romney accepts his nomination. Romney will be introduced by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

NBC's Kelly O'Donnell and Sue Kroll contributed to this story.

aaaah, spoken like a true democratic. Their success is not YOUR failure. Get over yourself! Just because someone is financial wealthy, shouldn't mean they need to go around apologizing for it or try to compensate by living in adobe houses. Why is it every 'the rich keep getting richer' comments I hear are ALWAYS from some democrat who's so worried about what others are earning and working for? You obviously have NO clue about Clint's story and his childhood, do you?

Will I don't watch his movies and he wants the regulations for gun control to change for the worse. Just another actor following the other dumbo, Romney.

It is unreal how Obama is blamed for the mess we are in. Many of the current deals with other countries were in place before he was elected. He is trying to bring back manufacturing jobs given out to foreign countries providing the corporations not only with a tax break but not having to pay benefits for to employees.

If Romney is elected with that other bird brain, Ryan, seniors and the middle class will suffer. The lower class would become non-existence. Only those who are millionaires will survive. They will have no tax increases only tax cuts.

...@my: "It's unreal how Obama is blamed for the mess we're in" ...LMAO!!! ...Get a grip, buddy! Who do you want us to blame? ...Someone who hasn't been in charge of running America for the past FOUR YEARS? ...Well, gosh, that sure would be good for the moron currently in the White House, but it wouldn't be true.

Ryan's nose grew so much last night that the glass on my TV shattered. I learned more about him from that speech than anytime before. Forget about the Medicare LIES, forget about the Healthcare LIES, forget about the National Debt LIES...This guy wants us to go to WAR with six countries if he gets elected, including CHINA!!!!

Yesterday Romney was asked if his policies are different than Bush's. Romney did not say yes, he said his policies would be like no one has seen before.

Obama and Clinton were right! Romney and ryan are Bush/Cheney on STEROIDS.

GO AHEAD REPUBLICANS, make our day!!!!!

Exactly, go ahead rightwingnuts, make my day is totally correct. It will be an unparalled disaster for our Constitution (they'll draft a new version point 2.0), our economy, freedom, liberty, and creativity which of course is the fuel that drives innovation. And then they'll get us into a world war with all the false CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS carrying the banners of HATE the world over. Until they nuke us. Don't kid yourselves, these goons will destroy 250 years of progressive growth in a blink of an diseased eyeball. These are dangerously ignorant deceivers who mix lies with the truth. Gotta love that, if you're a minion of Satan as they truly are.

Speaking of not looking concerned, what about Obama and his cronies giving 535 million in taxpayer money to one of his doners (Solyndra) only to have them immediately declare backruptcy, leaving taxpayers on the hook. Obama never took responsibility, said he was sorry or even took the time to look concerned.

I guess I could have figured it out from his movies, but it's another thing to be a figure in the repub convention, which implies much more radicalism.

I have even more respect for Mr. Eastwood for going against the grain of Hollywood liberalism. He is a man of honor and integrity. All those so called Hollywood A-listers, like Clooney, are just sheep following their masters. Their masters are of course the ones that hire them to act, most of which are liberals. Of course they are going to publicly state their support for liberal politicians, to do otherwise would cost them their careers. However, I have often wondered how they actually vote on election day when no one is looking.

So, what you are saying is that only Republicans are of honor and integrity? Get a life. Also, in case you haven't noticed, people choose their party line based on their beliefs. You stating that liberals are following "masters" is just so moronic. That would be like me saying that all Republicans are war mongering, racist, greedy, selfish a$$ holes. If you are going to make a statement, at least have the integrity to make a statement that sounds educated based.

Alaska Girl, I think you could benefit from a course in reading comprehension. My comment was specifically about liberalisim in Hollywood and that most actors follow that lead. You know that's a fact, everyone knows that! However, like a typical liberal, you pick out buzz words from a comment and spin it to something that fits your preconceived notion of what a person is saying. How disingenuous is that.

Great character actor with that rugged image of his, but my view of his depth and intellect is permanently tarnished now. He must be a a simple-minded ideologue. I had no problem with him being Republican in the past, if he'd spoken for Reagan or Bush senior, for example, but to embrace this bunch, who have taken over the party today, I'm just sorry he doesn't seem to have the guts or depth of thinking/political acumen to criticize his party & fight for what it used to be, not support what it's become. For me, this man's mystique has definitely dimmed.

It's the debt, deficits, JOBS, lack of a plan and no leadership that did them in. This election will be a landslide for the GOP.

Yea, that's it, bring in the same ghouls who couldn't give a sh*t about you or your job, who already raped the banks and now want Social Security as well. The new right wing, hoping and praying for Mitt's magic wand to make it all better. And they will, FOR THEMSELVES, and the average republican dupe isn't being factored into that equation. Kiss the good life goodbye, but at least as you BEG FOR FOODSTAMPS (and they'll be none available of course) you can pride yourself that you and your ilk are WINNERS. Here is one of the reasons this "liberal" really likes Clint Eastwood:

I quote this from the intertubes- source Wiki, not the best but certainly not the worst.

-For his two year term in office, Clint fulfilled to his own satisfaction, all his major campaign promises. Among them, he made it easier to build or to renovate property. He got a tourist parking lot constructed. He remodeled The Mission Ranch and preserved the precious landscape it was on which was supposed to be demolished in favor of 80 condominiums. He also opened the library annex which is dedicated for children's use, and it is said to be the accomplishment of which he is most proud.

Ya see folks this isn't about right or left (libtard, repubtard- Really?), this is about what WE as Americans really want.

For Fark sake it's right in our nation's most important document, Pursuit of Happiness etc. Scratching each others eyes out over our stupid petty differences isn't doing us any favors. We all want security and freedom, equality and to be left the hell alone. We all want a fair shake at a piece of the pie. Well our eyes ain't on the pie now are they? They're on each other over social issues, wedge issues.

                        It's not a "vast right wing conspiracy" it's not a Communist/Mooslim takeover.

It's Pavlovs dogs in a farking parlor trick. Can you say Oligarchy?

                          #149.3 - Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:29 PM EDT

Actually Jakehole, it really is a vast rightwing conspiracy with legions of small brained minions working every single day of their sad impotent lives trying to make life worse for others. This is a conspiracy of philosophy that is rampant in burgeoning FASCIST REGIMES the world over.

Here's an utter douchebag who in actuality lives a life that runs contrary to the bulk of his brave and courageous action adventure films.
