TAMPA, Fla. -- Almost two weeks ago, Missouri Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin found himself mired in controversy after his remarks about "legitimate rape" and his doubts that a woman could get pregnant after being raped. Since then, many Republican leaders have called for Akin to withdraw from the race, while some conservative leaders (like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee) have defended him.

According to interviews with a handful of conservative women here at the Republican convention, opinions about Akin are mixed, with some believing he should remain in the contest. “I think he should stay in," said Mary Summa, an attorney and Republican activist from Charlotte, N.C. "Everybody makes a mistake. It was stupid, it was incorrect, it was wrong. But the guy’s a good man."
Todd Akin's apology tour is over…President Obama endorses
But others think he should step aside. “When something happens like [Akin’s] statement, it’s disappointing to women because rape is the most awful thing that can happen to a woman,” said Suzanne Terrell, a delegate from New Orleans.
Some of those interviewed are delegates to the convention; others are activists who have gathered here in Tampa. Here are their opinions in their own words:
Mary Summa
Attorney and Republican activist from Charlotte, North Carolina
Member of the Republican Party Platform Committee
“I think he should stay in. Everybody makes a mistake. It was stupid, it was incorrect, it was wrong, but the guy’s a good man. And he made a misstatement. He apologized a thousand times. You know, I think Republicans are really good at eating their own… I don’t think he should get out. And it’s up to Missouri. If they want him out, they can get him out.”
“I’m very pro-life and from my perspective I think it was mountains out of molehills, and the Republicans were the ones who made mountains out of molehills. We have got to understand – and this is my humble opinion –the inherent dignity of the human person and the right to live is the lynchpin of freedom. And once we lose that freedom, we will lose every freedom we have.”
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush joins Morning Joe from the RNC floor to preview his Thursday night speech. Bush says his speech will focus on education and why it is of national purpose for the country to improve in education. Bush also discusses Todd Akin's rape comments and Romney's pick of Paul Ryan as his running mate.
Suzanne Terrell
Delegate from New Orleans, Louisiana
(Terrell runs two organizations working to elect Republican women to office: Project GoPink and ShePAC. The organizations did not take a position on the Akin controversy, though Terrell said she thought Akin should have stepped aside. Her organizations supported Akin’s opponent in the Missouri primary, Sarah Steelman.)
“When something happens like [Akin’s] statement it’s disappointing to women because rape is the most awful thing that can happen to a woman.” “There are [certain] issues that women are better spokespeople on. Perhaps the Republican Party – and I think they got it this time – needs to encourage more of that conversation, and that sensitivity, that this man clearly was lacking.”
Natalie Lavering, a delegate from Lake Stevens, Wash., and Heidi Shaw, who is a guest of the Washington state delegation.
Natalie: "It was an unfortunate comment."
Heidi: "He shouldn’t have said it. I was disappointed in that statement… I thought he was a total idiot to say that."

“[Akin] put not only his foot, but his entire leg in his mouth – and then he kept talking… He apologized and he should have. Because he really blew it. However, I don’t think it’s Washington’s place to tell the people of Missouri what to do.”
“[Akin is] pro-life. He believes in a life exception for the mother. He believes that in cases of rape that the rapist should be punished, but he thinks it’s still a baby, and so do I. I have friends… that are products of rape. And I don’t think that at the end of the day an abortion helps a woman that has been raped. I think that it further wounds her. And in addition to the fact that there’s 2-million parents waiting on babies. No one has to keep a baby they don’t want.”
In his RNC speech, Mitt Romney is expected to convey optimism and emphasize the importance of women's contributions in the political arena. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

More than one friend? That's amazing that, not only were those rape pregnancies not aborted, but the mothers felt it was a good idea to tell their children how they were conceived.
These women are disgusting!...Legislating taking away another womans right to Privacy and Choice!
...For those shills......You, and or yours should be made to carry to full term, if you are raped, the child of your rapist!
You are not the party of pro-life......You are the party of pro-birth!.....after that, you're on your own!
Wonder if First Read has seen today's Unemployment Numbers?
Even con women have a mixed message.
Be there no mistake that the rest of the women in the country know what he said was from the heart and part of the republican platform.
This guy and as many GNOP people need to be left behind come November. This country needs to move forward with positive respect for everyone. The GNOP fails to see it that way.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
That's because some don't actually want to be stuck in the kitchen.
These Stepford Wives would vote for a grilled cheese sandwich as long as it had an (R) after it!
Here is something the President said today:
The president says he also wants to do a better job of explaining to the public how his policies will help the economy grow. Obama claims he didn’t do a good enough job selling Americans on the stimulus plan (CBS)
He wouldn't have to explain anything if his policies had worked.
It's hard to explain your way out of complete failure.
Have you found your spine yet... jellyfish?
You ran like a scalded cat this morning after you got spanked! lol
The idea that there are different kinds of rape is truly offensive to women and a lot of men who care about women. And the idea that pregnancy only comes from a non-'legitimate" rape is a disgrace.
But this is the right-wing anti-science bubble that Akin and his co-sponsors live in. And they want you to live there too.
They prefer to believe climate change is not happening, or not tied to our increased carbon emission since the Industrial Revolution. They try to believe crazy things about the President and about the nature of our U.S. Intelligence forces that can spot a forgery from a thousand miles away.
Tax breaks for the rich raises revenue and fixes the US deficit?? How the **** does that work?
Another fallacy that the rich tries to foist on the 99%.
Actually it did work. It stopped the job losses. Now it would have worked better if Obama had not been forced to compromise. Nobel winning economists were also disappointed in that Obama compromised with Republicans and cut the size of the stimulus down.
“I do not believe that just because you are opposed to abortion, that makes you pro-life. In fact, in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child clothed, not a child housed
And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any tax money to go there.
That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth.
We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is”
Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B.
Feisty you certainly live in a delusional world. How about it, though?
Defend the unemployment rate. See if you can do it without blaming everyone else.
Sorry xabre, most of us live in the real world where jobs are hard to find and gas is hard to buy. You go ahead and keep quoting "Economists".
Your neighbors know different.
It wouldn't be a post from WhiteCollarAuto with some sort of tangent or deflection.
Translation: blame who I want you to blame and nobody else.
Those "economists" have won the Nobel Prize. That means they're far more qualified than you on the topic of economics.
And gas prices! Wow. Must be a Texas oilman in the White House to have this happen. $4.26 (4 E Irving Park Road) at the local Circle K in Roselle IL. Ol'Dumb Fux is gonna have to take to hiking it in. Not a bad thing really.
Ahh, you libs are right. Lets talk about a what a nitwit Senate candidate said in Missouri.
$4.26/gallon. Wow. And that's the low.
Careful Xabre, little WCA is having a rough day!
We don't want to send him into victim mode, it gets messy! ;o)
They should really like Vito Lopez, as long as they go "bra-less" they will fit right in!

Democratic Party boss Vito Lopez ran 'frat house' office - women staff treated like in a 'harem': sources
Powerful Brooklyn Democratic Party boss Vito Lopez ran his office like a frat house where female staffers were treated more like members of a harem, sources told the Daily News.
“He is a terror to work for. Pretty much everybody who has gone through his office has been clear about how difficult he is,” said a source familiar with the inner-working of the 71-year-old Assemblyman’s office.
One former Lopez staffer told The News the lawmaker would frequently require young female staffers to go to fund-raisers and political events and flirt with men there.

WCA,
Defend it …
Over the last 30+ years we have exported US manufacturing
jobs to the extent that our manufacturing industry is only 30% of what it used
to be accounting for the high difficulty in rebuilding our workforce with good,
well compensated, middle class jobs. This is also evident with exports being
1/3 of what they were 30 years ago when “Made in America” was desired
worldwide.
Gee, I wonder if Viagra is involved.
So Dennis....we should just get used to it?
At least Obama has a plan unlike his opponent. Just saying.
WCA,
Not what I said now is it?
Why didn't the Republicans start to fix this well known problem when they had full control?
It was clear to everyone around 2000 that we needed to rebuild this industry.
Good grief, WCA. President Obama said that nearly two years ago after the 2010 elections and it was in conjunction with the election and if he felt some responsibility; his response was that he felt he hadn't done enough to communicate what was happening and what his administration was doing; that he had been focused on doing the job of President and failed to communicate enough with the people. Paul Ryan brought this old comment up in his lie-filled speech last night.
I guess you forget that when George W. Bush was asked that same question, his answer was not that he could think of?!!!
By the way, WCA, if it's a "quote" as you suggest, why does it say "the president says"?
WCA "He wouldn't have to explain anything if his policies had worked."
It is almost impossible to explain a long term strategy to short term thinkers.
Edit fail in #1.21. Last sentence should read: by the way, WCA, if it's a "quote" from the President as you suggest, why does it say "the president says"? Assume you realize you are quoting Paul Ryan and not President Obama.
So are those the same economists that said the Romney plan would work?
So much faith in these 'economists'. What exactly were they saying in, oh, late 2007, early 2008 again? All clear, or something?
Of course they are.
WCA: No, we should not just get used to it.
Why did the repubs vote against a jobs bill to eliminate tax breaks to send jobs overseas and provide tax breaks to those who bring jobs back?
Ursula-279622
it's worse. According to Akin, these women were not really raped - they must have wanted it because if it was a LEGITIMATE rape, their bodies would have produced unicorns that prevent the pregnancies.
Since they DID get pegnant, there was no rape!
JAS1,
I see you talk about gas prices, and economists but not the Akin comment. As a woman (judging by your name) do you agree that 'legitimately' raped women have a way to shut down the reproductive proces????
Apparently you can't read.
The guy has been disowned by the GOP establishment, told to resign, quit, leave, not come back. So what does that tell you bays?
What you paying for gas bays?
JAS1----------------It tells me that the GOP doesn't like that he let their platform out of the bag....They are only supposed to talk like that in their mega-churches and nowadays the Mormon temple.......
JoAnnaSmith1
this is your big denouncemnt of the Akin theory????? I can read and what your post means is blah blah blah gas prices blah blah blah Akin's Insulting To Women Theory is not important enough to discuss blah blah blah gas prices.
What I was aking you is a straight forward answer like: as a woman, as a human being, as an educated person, I find Akin's comment insulting. Rape is a violent crime that steals the victim's soul. And the comment that a "legitimately" raped woman (as opposed to the "fake rape') has a means and ways to prevent pregnancy is sick, and insulting to every woman (child or adult) that went through the trauma.
But your big answer is:
3.59/gal if you must know.
he hasn't been disowned by anyone. Romney took 36hrs to find out from his handlers what to say - it's should have been automatic. The Republicans in Missouri are still for Akin. Even the Republican women are tossed. McCain said Akin's comment are a "problem" for the GOP. Reince Priebus says that Todd Akin’s insistence on staying in the Missouri Senate race could cost the party its chance to win control of the Senate. So the Republicans don't necessary say out loud that "legitimate" rape theory should have never been brought up in the first place; they just say since it's out there now, it might hurt their agenda.
Tell me, how did Paul Ryan manage to work with Akin on the "legitimate rape plan" for so long without figuring out that Akin is a moron? Only when the theory became inconvenient, the Repubs decided to distance themselves from it.
So no, the Republicans didn't disown Akin; the Republicans disowned the backlash that it came with the Akin comment. And you, with your distraction of gas prices, prove it perfectly. Even after I ask you a question, you still could not come up with an answer. So thanks for proving what I already knew about you.
One good thing about MSNBC/MSN/NBC....they sure are a predictable bunch !
Why is this story on Akin's dumb comment still news ??? Too much going on positively for the Republican Party ??? Just have to throw some cold mud into the mix ???
What's next...a feature story on Mitch McConnell saying he wanted to make President Obama "a one term president" from three and a half years ago ??? Maybe a feature on Dick Cheney's relationship to Haliburton ???
The Republicans had a very good week in Tampa...sorry this media outlet doesn't like it.
Penny Young Nance, your entire comment is as disgusting as Akins . . .
But having a nine-month daily reminder growing inside of her body is somehow HELPFUL to her???? Again, it is the woman's CHOICE! Please get the government out of our bodies!!!!
"nine-month" daily reminder?
Here is a reminder: At a point when the fetus can live outside the womb, then it is a life and you cannot kill it.
Sorry, you cant abort a child in the ninth month of pregnancy.
You're right, the proper terminology should be 'constant reminder', as it continues after birth.
You know Bob, sorry about the misspelling but I'm sure you get my drift. Multi-tasking is sometimes not the best thing I do. Point was what woman wants a daily reminder that she is pregnant via rape. I'll try and be more coherent in future posts.
Sorry Probe-Boy!
When YOU can get pregnant then YOU can have a seat at the table!
Why is that concept so difficult for you to understand?
It's MY choice & it's between, ME, my doctor & higher being!
According to the Bible, that's when life begins. As religious as so many conservatives claim to be, I'm surprised this passage escapes them.
The Bible also says that life is "in the blood", which is why Jehovah's Witnesses will not accept transfusions. But it could also be interpreted that 'life' doesn't begin until the fetus is infused with blood. Personally, I don't know when exactly I feel 'life' begins; but I know a single-celled object is not a person.
Perhaps someone could tell this witch that these 6-million kids would easily fill that gaping 2-million figure she loves to throw around.
Layton, cheers for that one.
It's one of those passages that applies, until it doesn't apply, like their views on almost everything else. Notice they freak out over aborting a zygote, but have no problem killing a living-breathing first born child. That is perfectly acceptable.

“[Akin] put not only his foot, but his entire leg in his mouth – and then he kept talking… He apologized and he should have. Because he really blew it. However, I don’t think it’s Washington’s place to tell the people of Missouri what to do.”
But it is Washington's place to tell the women of the USA what to do? Akin pulled the curtain back and allowed the country to get a full view of a Republican male mind set that he shares with Paul Ryan and others in leadership positions.
That was the turning point for my changed views on abortion. A friend of the family's daughter that just turned 13 spilled the beans to her mother that a long time "friend" of theirs had been molesting her for the past year. She had not said anything due to shame and what pushed her forward was two missed periods. The poor girl was pregnant by this creep!! This family is a very religious, close family and they conceded to their daughter's wish that she wanted this pregnancy terminated. This poor girl had a double whammy of going through seeing this creep prosecuted in court and had to deal with something that a women and not a young girl should deal with...a abortion.
Now I ask you out there...what exactly would you do if your newly tween daughter was pregnant...ship her off?? disown her???....make this kid have the baby even if she does not want it???
The young girl I talked about above is now a young women, married with three beautiful kids. She overcame this very dark part in her life and has moved on due to loving family and friends.
Nobody likes the idea of abortion and at this time in history it IS NOT used for birth control. But in reality it is not our business to make the decision to take away that choice. We do not know what this person is going through that is walking into that clinic BUT I can guarantee they are hurting....
Many years ago, the 15 year old daughter of a friend of mine was brutally raped and as a result became pregnant. The young girl had to testify in court, facing her rapist. The mother, who saw herself as a highly religious person, forced this 15 year old child to give birth against her will. Many of her friends, even from her church, urged her to put the child up for adoption, but she was deaf to their pleas She also insisted that her daughter drop out of school, nurse and care for this child. 6 months after the child's birth, the mother came home from an afternoon of shopping to discover that her daughter had hung herself from a tree in their backyard. After the funeral, the mother took the child an adoption agency and left her there. She had showed herself to cruel and not someone who practiced what she preached. Our friendship ended there. To this day, she still sees herself as a woman of God and that she did the right things. Some people will never learn.
Wow.
If you think Akin is scary... as a woman you should be terrified of Paul Ryan!
Why is this not be reported on by the MSM?
Ladies! WE NEED TO BE SHOUTING IT FROM OUR ROOF-TOPS!
From DailyKos;
Wednesday, August 20, 2012, Paul Ryan told Josh Smith of Roanoke Virginia's WJHL-TV that "rape" is just one "method" of getting pregnant and therefore, Paul Ryan does not support abortion even if a woman is raped.
There you have it, in one sentence, Paul Ryan says, 'life begins at conception' and rape is just 'one method of getting pregnant.' Wednesday, August 20, 2012, Paul Ryan told Josh Smith of Roanoke Virginia's WJHL-TV that "rape" is just one "method" of getting pregnant and therefore, Paul Ryan does not support abortion even if a woman is raped.

Ryan/Akin 2012 - Representing compassionate, conservative, Christians, one vagina at a time!
I find the very idea of forcing a woman who has been impregnated by a rapist, to carry that thing around for 9 months ... what a BARBARIC thought! These people need to have their heads examined.
Ryan,Santorum...They are all the same. Even the deconstruction going on now to undo coverage or access to birth control...But hey...Viagra,no problem.
So I guess what these ego manics are trying to tell women is that they should be in awe and worship at the feet of their all knowing man....That's the American Taliban for ya.
Does it ever occur to the RWNJs that a man who would rape a child or a woman is not a man of God, but a product of the devil. Why would any Christian want a spawn of the devil to be born. The meanness inside of the rapist's head is not about sex but about brutal control over the child or a woman. Not a man of God at all.
Christians do not have any idea about anything in the Bible just what the figurehead of the church have to say.
Why do the TP/Republicans want so many children in the United States? Maybe something about future wars. Are they afraid there will not be enough children to die for their war machine and profits?
Ursula...thank you for the quote from the Bible.
Hard to keep up with MSNBC Chris Matthew's idiocy.
Matthews is the ultimate liberal...and below is a classic of liberal hypocrisy!
Matthews in his latest ranting argument about how any mention of welfare is racist, he claimed he resided in black majority DC for 40 years...so he knew all about the fact that he saw blacks rising at 6:30 AM to go to work.....now many hardworking black people rise at 6:30 Am, that is true, no doubt...
But actually at 6: 30 AM, the wealthy Chris Matthews would be sleeping in his elitist wealthy ALL WHITE tony DC suburb of Chevy Chase Village, Maryland... According to census data at Maryland-Demographics.com, 1,953 people lived in Chevy Chase Village as of 2010. Of those nearly 2,000 residents, 10 were black. That's right -- ten. As in, one-half of one percent. Ninety-three percent of its residents were white, the remaining percentage other minorities ....
If there was a point to this post, I was unable to discern it.
Bob, Mathews is much older than 40, try close to 70. But then you know his addresses for all those years.
So - what is your point. Let's look at Romney's religion and the state it controls.
Somebody has to counter Rush, Ann, Sean and the rest of the right wing nut job Fascist wannabe "entertainers". The left has Chris Matthews the right has the rest. Seems Mr. Matthews has his right to say what he needs to say to counter the others.
Right on point Adler.......but then you know how the true right wing nut jobs can really dish it out but they sure can't take it!!!!
Adler...
What makes you think that all folks who are Republicans or conservatives...or folks that will be voting Republican whether party members or not...or folks that are simply underwhelmed by Mr. Obama's job performance and want him to go away, are just a bunch of talk radio listeners who need to be "countered" ??? People are either unflinching synchophants of a lousy leader...or they have their heads strapped to their radios to receive the next marching orders for what they're supposed to think and feel each day...is that what you think ?
I don't listen to any of the hosts you are so terrified of AND I am certain that Mr. Obama is a lousy leader who has not delivered as promised. And yes...I' still waiting for the seas to rise and the planet to heal, like the man promised. I'm still waiting for all those "shovel ready jobs" we were promised despite the fact that the President was caught off-camera...chuckling !...as he said "I guess those shovel-ready jobs weren't as shovel ready as we had thought". At least we get some honesty from the man when he doesn't know the cameras are rolling !
And guess what...I didn't need any 'entertainers' to educate me. So who "counters" me ?
So the question in the minds of some of the conservative women is should Akin remain in the race or not rather than the outrageousness of his view? The question is whether he "misspoke" rather than his view that rape is "legitimate" and can't cause pregnancy otherwise, it isn't rape? The question is that "life" of the unborn is valued regardless of circumstance and the rights of women raped or victims of incest are irrelevant?
"...rather than his view that rape is "legitimate" "
Stop lying, he said stupid things, but he did not defend the heinous crime of rape.
Akin should and hopefully will get out of the race, but your hyperbole is laughably stupid.
Wound pretty tight today... eh... Probe-Boy?
WOW! Who you going to lash out at next?
First Chris Matthews, then Layton & now Jody! lol
Why would that be?
This is suppose the be your big week for the party of pale, male & stale!
Sucks to see the writing on the wall... don't it! ☺
Bob, you cannot comprehend context apparently. By stating that in a 'legitimate rape', a female cannot get pregnant, it implies that any rape that left the victim pregnant must not have been legitimate. In not in as many words: "if she got pregnant, that means she wanted it". It's the classic 'blame the victim' mentality the GOP so often spews.
Bob in Virginia-5210392
You are leaving out the rest of Jody's sentence and the problem is, he just didn't say it, he believed it, and Ryan and a fistful of republicans agree with him. Read it again:"...and can't cause pregnancy otherwise.." I don't know if the GOP is running against Obama or running from themselves anymore.
Probe got stuck in his hiney, and the poor thing is trying to decide if his spastic tubes are going to kick in and eject it.
Aft torpedoes, FIRE!
Bob, it isn't a lie. Akin said it, not me--it's on tape. In his comment, he implied that rape was only "legitimiate rape" if the woman doesn't become pregnant...because that is what he believes. He said stupid things all right but he said he understood this as true because some nutjob doctor said it. This view you call saying something stupid is widely accepted as truth by many of the pro-life zealots. The only reason he apologized and claimed he "misspoke" was he got caught saying it; he got caught saying exactly what he, Paul Ryan and other republicans wrote and passed in HR312. I admit he got caught saying something stupid but his ignorance is why he said something stupid.
The question you should be asking yourself as should all voters is whether that is the kind of thinking you want from elected officials that pass laws affecting each and every one of us.
As for me Akin made a stupid remark. I for one, not a one issue voting woman. I look at the entire wave of issues that we are having today.
This from NBC
I will bet you that is one promise he will not brake. Is he detached? Millions with out a job. Mr Celebrity indeed.
Ok FR libs you can drop me a line or two of your daily hatred crap.
I really cannot help myself anymore. This is just too much fun.
Concern, a few days ago, you said you'd forgiven Akin. Does that mean you'd vote for him if you lived in Missouri?
You also said you disagreed with his comment. Does that mean you'd vote for McCaskill if you lived in Missouri...or would you just sit this one out?
And the resident bloatina nose her celeries, like Chaves and Castra.
Ursula-279622
Those are good questions Ursula, and I will answeer them this way.
Yes, I have forgiven Akin, and No that does not mean that I would vote for him if I lived in Missouri.
I would not vote for McCaskill because she has done nothing for the People of Missouri.
I would have to weight all the issues that Akin represents and not just the Rape issue. I might sit this one out if the scale tipped more than 30% against him. I hope I answer your questions.
On abortion and being a woman I had one choice to abort on my autistic son and I and only I decided not to? It has been hard for both me and my Husband some times, but I'm very happy I decided not to and of course he agrees with me.
I'm against abortion for the sake of just not being pregnant. In my religion the Soul and the Body are two totally different things. Having said this it is not my business to judge anyone and that decision is a woman's decision, with the husband input only.
That person will have to answer to her conscious and her God for that life that she terminated.
At three month when you do a ultra sound that life is formed. If their are no medical issues or a case of rape, I will say that you are taking a life at that point. That is my opinion, but you can do what you want.
You may want to back off the sauce for awhile. It is affecting your ability to type your blather.
Concern, I admire your stance on abortion in the sense that you're not imposing your beliefs on anyone else. Unfortunately, yours is a minority opinion in the Republican party - and that's what all the hoopla's about.
The problem with Akin isn't that he SAID something stupid and insensitive - it's that he BELIEVES what he said. And those misogynistic views are bad for a society that's more than 50% female.
The vote question is tricky - and it's going to be tricky for Missourians in November. Maybe some of them will skip it altogether, but that's a sure-fire way to re-elect McCaskill!
I live in Missouri and do not support Akin or McCaskill for different reasons. I will not vote for McCaskill but cannot ethically vote for Akin.
Since when can you diagnose autism during pregnancy?
Concerned you have been caught and all we have to do is reel you in.
ksw, I understand your dilemma but I encourage you to consider the rights of 50%+ of the population and vote for McCaskill!
Newday----That is the question of the day....I have an autistic son and I am pretty sure if there was a way they would have tested mom for the next three.............But then again I live in the real world and won't be voting for the dude trying to give himself a tax break while he cuts every safety net for the poor and downtrodden....
sw philly. I have a son with Tourette Syndrome, and they can't test for that during pregnancy either. Autism cannot be diagnosed before birth.
Concern Citizen-856329 Wow Newday DR caught you in a bold-faced lie!!
Akin needs to stay in the race so that McCaskell can continually remind women (and men who care about women) just what her opponent is like. She should win by a comfortable margin.
OK. Let's have Gingrich, Ryan and Akin and all their supporters in the room when a women in need of an emergency abortion to save her life dies. Reality might hit them in the face.
You just exposed Newt's plan for Calista. That aside, please don't wish that on any woman. These woman haters will stand in a circle jerk and chant 'kill the woman, kill the woman'.
There's a reason why they call it a "choice"
A woman should be free to choose whether to carry the baby, or not.
That's the fundamental issue, here.
The problem is the religious and political establishments sticking their probes in where they don't belong.
It's none of their goddamn business.
Stop wasting time, and start to work on all those "jobs, jobs, jobs" that were promised.
Morons.
All Akin did was to voice the opinions that most Republicans agree with. "Legitmate" rape, when the rapist violently forces themselves onto their victim, as supposed to the "she deserved it" rape where a woman is drunk, or date-rape. They blame the victim because apparently men are brutish animals who are unable to control themselves and get a pass from Republicans, or applause - depending on which AM hate-radio show you are listening to.
The scary thing about this is when you look at the BIG picture. ZERO sex education, ZERO access to birth control (Santorum), ZERO access to pre-natal care (Santorum), ZERO access to reproductive choice (99% of Republicans). This is their dream - a world where women have little choice but to get and stay pregnant.
Defending Todd Akin would be easier if he had actually admitted that what he said was totally and completely false - having no basis in biological facts. Instead, what he apologized for was using "the wrong words in the wrong way". To make matters worse, he went on Huckabee's radio show and stated that when he was talking about "legitimate rape" what he actually meant was "forcible rape". So, rewording his previous statement to include what Mr. Akin sees as the right words would state that pregnancy from rape is rare because "if it's a forcible rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down". Still biologically incorrect. Until Mr. Akin apologizes for making the statement at all and attests that he was just plain wrong - not only using the wrong words - then he doesn't deserve the honor of representing the women of Missouri.
Back in the day when I proudly registered to vote I was a die hard Republican. I started to become disenchanted when I noticed a trend to cut public school budgeting and when they went they started on their warpath on women's rights concerning their own bodies. This was in the late eighties that I said "no more".
Yes I do vote a mixed ticket still...when I see someone of true worth of course I vote for them BUT I do have my checklist and I do adhere to it unflinching when it comes to our kids, seniors and the rights we women fought hard for.
You see, I find it hard to believe a party that states that i wants smaller government BUT it wants to know what everyone is doing in their bedroom AND feel the need to CONTROL women's bodies. So in my late fifties now and every year I shake my head at what is offered on the GOP side. I know Ronald Reagan is looking down and shaking his head......
Alright, Akin came up with legitimate rape; but are any of you aware that Ryan and Akin came up with "forcible" rape. I would like to have Ryan's idea of what is "forcible" rape. All rape is forcible, so why did he put it in his bill. When asked about it, he merely said "rape is rape". But, you can clearly see it in his eyes, he doesn't care about rape, just the fetus.

I am more Republican than Democrat. I am pro choice and pro gay marriage.
I do not want Federal, State or any other government telling a woman they must have a baby they don't want whether it is a result of rape, incest or the stupidity of getting yourself pregnant when there are so many ways to prevent it. I would never try to make the choice for anyone else other than myself and I think everyone should have that same right. It's no one else's business quite frankly.
I will also admit that I am an athiest but don't berate anyone for what they choose to beleive or how they choose to live their lives. I don't beleive the Republicans hate women and these pro life folks have this bad habit of mouthing off their views when they don't know what the heck they are talking about. I really wonder if this man's wife, sister, mother or daughter were raped and became pregnant from that rape would truly follow through with carrying that child full term. I don't think anyone that has not experienced these horrible events in life don't have any idea what they would really do. Unfortunately you will never convince them that unless you have walked that mile in those shoes you have no idea what you are saying. Some men cannot even stand to look at their wives if they've been victimized and these men are going to keep the babies and rasie them as their own? Please. I doubt it-is possible but I doubt it.
It's the same thing for the terminally ill person that is in such pain and misery yet we have all these do gooders out there saying they should not be able to end their lives. I bet they would be singing a different tune if they were the ones sick and dying.
I totally disagree with these things where Republicans are concerned.
Right now we have some pretty awful things going on in America. Obama made a whole lot of promises and he failed. The country is in worse shape today then it was when he stepped into office. I don't want to hear how it was Bush's fault anymore. he has had 4 years to tackle the issues and things are not getting better. Not only that the Democrats are moving more and more heavily toward a Socialist mindset. Changing laws that were clearly stated they could not be changed by the president alone (welfare rules), tromping on the states rights to address their immigration issues. Sueing Boeing for trying to open a new plant that is non union? And throwing trillions of dollars at businesses, many that have now failed.
This has not helped the economy or helped in job creation. He needs to go. I see nothing positive that has come from this administration. His campaign has been ugly with mud slinging and out and out lies. That says all I need to hear. I guess when you have no success to point to the only thing you can do is try to discredit the opponent. Accusing him of murder? Way over the line.
Folks………..the only reason Women would vote for these Republican TeaBilly Conservative Whack jobs………see Below.
Stockholm syndrome, or capture-bonding, is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims.

Where are women on this headline?
NYC judge overturns ruling to keep X-rated businesses away from schools....
Where are the women in America who are responding to how liberal ideas in one aspect of life seems to open up the door to a lack of morals and conscience in all others that effect our children and our families.
I understand a woman having the right to choose what she does with her body and her pregnancy but the liberal party has no standards as to how we are to live and be governed morally. You can't kill a tree or an endangered species but you can terminate an unborn life.. You can't drill for oil because it could hurt mother earth but you can put smut next to schools and call it freedom... Wonder why our kids have a hard time knowing what is right and wrong in life.
It is so sad that Romney, in the most important night of his life, he had to misquote the president, "you didn't build that" That is sad. One lie after the other he would say anything to get elected, take money from crooked people, what kind of morals does he have action speaks louder than words, that why he wont show his taxes.
Most liberal women i know think conservative women are a bunch of backward dumbass b*tches! They wonder how they can be with men who think of them as chattel or weaklings who need them and their ultimate wisdom of being so much smarter and better than they. They(these men) think of women as being so stupid and weak that they would actually buy the insult of telling them what/how/when to do with their bodies as we (men) see fit. These women lap this @!$%# up and then try to tell an independent minded women that somehow these guys have a point, when in fact these men are continuing with age old sexism wrapped in the "he's a good man" concept they are selling. Good men don't have to think of their wives as property, children unable to make the right decisions about their own bodies, and too stupid not to have sex while on birth control. This is no different than what the Taliban think of women and rape is one of the punishments that could be assessed in an Afghan village. Tell me what the difference is conservative women?
