Mitt’s moment and his four objectives… How we got to here -- a story of endurance and survival… Ryan makes his mark with last night’s speech… He also makes some misleading and unfair assertions… And the GOP’s diversity on display.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney addresses the American Legion's national convention in Indianapolis, Indiana August 29, 2012.
TAMPA, Fla. -- After Ann Romney's introduction on Tuesday and Paul Ryan's rousing speech last night, Mitt Romney gets his moment tonight when he accepts the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nomination. If tonight’s speech is to be successful, Romney has to meet four objectives. One, he has to better introduce himself to the American public; it remains striking that after running for president for much of the past five years, voters still don’t have more than a two-dimensional understanding of the soon-to-be nominee. Two, he needs to convince the public that, while he looks the part, he’s the man Americans are comfortable seeing on their TVs for the next four years. Three, he has to try to close the empathy gap; our most recent NBC/WSJ poll found President Obama holding a 22-point advantage on who cares more about average people. And four, he needs to put some meat on the policy bone to make the case how his plans could actually work better than Obama’s -- and how they are different from the past Republican administration. If four hours are going to decide this presidential election, the first hour comes tonight.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd explains what's at stake for Mitt Romney – who is giving his speech at the RNC Thursday night.
*** How will he use it? So how will Romney use this hour? Focus on the personal? Emphasize the policy? Talk to the base? Reason with the swing voter? All of the above? There is no obvious answer here. But we’ll find out 13 hours from now, at 10:00 p ET. What’s more, it’s interesting how many of the things Romney has to accomplish tonight were the same things that Al Gore had to accomplish 12 years ago, and Gore’s story proves you can turn it around. By the way, the Romney camp says it’s holding more than 250 watch parties in 13 battleground states to celebrate Romney becoming the GOP’s official nominee. Meanwhile, the Obama camp has unveiled a new web video, hitting Romney for trying to shake “an Etch-A-Sketch of epic proportions.”
*** How we got here -- a story of endurance and survival: Remember that Romney’s upcoming moment tonight almost didn't happen during one of the wildest presidential nominating cycles we can remember. After Rick Perry jumped into the race in Aug. 2011, the Texas governor became the immediate front-runner in the GOP race, but a combination of the Romney campaign’s attacks on his immigration record and Perry’s own stumbles in the debates (“Oops”) sank his chances. Then, about a month before the Iowa caucuses, Newt Gingrich made his surge, becoming the new GOP front-runner. But entered the pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future, whose negative TV ads pummeled Gingrich so hard that the former House speaker finished fourth in Iowa. And then there was Rick Santorum’s surge in Feb. 2012. We often forget how close the former Pennsylvania senator came to upsetting Romney in his native state of Michigan -- it was 41% to 38% -- and had Romney lost that contest, it’s fair to say that he probably wouldn’t be standing on the stage tonight in Tampa accepting the GOP’s presidential nomination. Romney’s story, at least as it relates to the GOP nominating contest, is one of endurance and survival.
*** Ryan makes his mark: As for Paul Ryan’s acceptance speech last night, it was quite an introduction for the Wisconsin congressman, and he did the things you’d expect from the VP speech. He gladly took on the role of attack dog. “Ladies and gentlemen, these past four years we have suffered no shortage of words in the White House. What’s missing is leadership in the White House.” He proclaimed that he and Romney -- with Ryan’s budget plan -- were the reformers. “Medicare is a promise, and we will honor it. A Romney-Ryan administration will protect and strengthen Medicare, for my Mom’s generation, for my generation, and for my kids and yours.” And following Ann Romney’s lead from Tuesday night, he tried to humanize the man at the top of the ticket. “Mitt and I … go to different churches. But in any church, the best kind of preaching is done by example. And I’ve been watching that example. The man who will accept your nomination tomorrow is prayerful and faithful and honorable.” And Ryan did all of these things projecting youth and energy, although it didn’t appear his target audience was swing voters.
Todd Akin's apology tour is over…President Obama endorses
*** And he also makes some misleading or unfair assertions: That was the positive part of his speech last night. The negative came from the facts and fairness of some of his assertions. Perhaps the most egregious was his hit on Obama over Simpson-Bowles. “He created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing.” But here’s the thing: Ryan served on that same debt commission, and voted AGAINST it. Had Ryan voted for it (and convinced his fellow House members on the commission to do the same), Simpson-Bowles would have become law. Ryan also knocked Obama for the S&P downgrade, not mentioning the role that House Republicans like him played in that debt-ceiling debate. He also again attacked the president over those $716 billion in cuts/savings to Medicare -- the same $716 billion in cuts/savings that Ryan includes his budget. And he argued that Obama was unable to keep a GM plant open in Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, WI, when that plant closed before Obama became president. Out of all of the assertions, the only one the Romney-Ryan camp is pushing back on today is the GM plant, saying it was put on “standby” -- not shut down -- during the Bush administration.
*** The VP speech typically doesn’t have a long shelf life: We want to make a final point about Ryan’s acceptance speech, and it’s the same one we made yesterday: Don’t get carried away by a strong VP speech; it typically doesn’t have a long shelf life. Think Ferraro in ’84, Bentsen in ’88, Kemp in ’96, Lieberman in ’00, and Edwards in ’04. The exception, of course, is Sarah Palin in ’08. But she isn’t the rule.
*** Diversity on display: Democrats, by far, have a more diverse electorate. But Republicans have done their best at this convention to demonstrate they have a more diverse bench. On Tuesday, they showcased Mia Love, Ted Cruz, and Nikki Haley; last night, it was Condi Rice and Susana Martinez; and tonight, it will be Marco Rubio. A few words on Rice’s speech: She started slowly, but won the crowd over, especially when she talked about how a young girl who grew up in the Jim Crow South later became secretary of state. It was a campaign speech without being ideological, and that’s hard to pull off. Rice’s biggest shortcoming was to talk about foreign policy but not acknowledge the role the administration she worked for played in the long wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. And we’ll say this about Martinez’s speech: It might have been the most underrated address at this convention. She was strong.
*** Thursday’s schedule (the theme is “We Believe in America”):
7:00 pm ET hour: Connie Mack, Newt and Callista Gingrich
8:00 pm hour: Jeb Bush, Romney adviser Bob White
9:00 pm hour: former MA Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, former Olympians Michael Eruzione, Derek Parra and Kim Rhode
10:00 pm hour: Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney
Countdown to Dem convention: 4 days
Countdown to 1st presidential debate: 34 days
Countdown to VP debate: 42 days
Countdown to 2nd presidential debate: 47 days
Countdown to 3rd presidential debate: 53 days
Countdown to Election Day: 68 days

It's still like sowna in down there in Tampa as pantalones continue to spontaneously explode across the
country!
The common theme resonating from the freak show is Tampa is, we have ZERO answers or ideas but trust us! *wink wink*
Day Three Recap;
They still cannot bring themselves to say the 4 letter word B-A-I-N out loud!
They don't need NO stinkin fact checkers!
They LIE with impunity!
Obama Derangement Syndrome is rampant!
Come on FR... Call them what they are... BALD FACED LIES!
Ryan is a dangerous LYING ideologue…
Ryan/Akin 2012 - Representing compassionate, conservative, Christians, one vagina at a time!
In the United Kingdom the election process is four weeks long - and a bit longer in Australia.
Not long enough for obvious whoppers to get any traction.
Now,
Mr. Ryan wants us to see a good Catholic boy when we look at him, right?
But after his big speech last night, I made a note to self that "Paul Ryan is just another lying *** after all".
In fact, Ryan has broadcast a series of brain-searing lies & omissions on his campaign travels:
After lying about the President's Medicare plan, Ryan didn't explain how his own plan turns Medicare into a depreciating 'premium' voucher to pay for tax cuts for millionaires; the lie Ryan tells about the Janesville GM plant that went bankrupt before President Obama was even sworn in; the Bush stimulus that Ryan supported; the stimulus funds that Ryan denies requesting; and the gross Welfare-Work law lie now many times debunked, but he keeps on telling it. Etc.
Last night - Paul Ryan's personal lie count ascended to the rafters.
What Romney Will Not Say:
Tonight Romney will give his acceptance speech to become the Republican nominee for POTUS. There will be a number of things that he will omit in that speech: both personal and policy
1.Romney will not thank the VIP's sequestered in private rooms including the Koch brothers who want deregulation of their business interests and Sheldon Adelson who wants the DOJ to stop investigating his international casino money laundering schemes in China.
2.Romney will not talk about his tenure as the Governor of Massachusetts in which he passed "Romneycare"(the blueprint of the Affordable Care Act), plus the fact that Massachusetts was 47th in job creation.
3.Romney will not talk about his holdings in the Cayman Islands and the loopholes he used to avoid paying federal income taxes on millions of dollars, i.e. a $100.000.000 IRA.
4.Romney will not talk about his tenure at Bain Capital and his involvement in the purchase of Stericycle, a company that specializes in disposing medical-waste, including human fetuses.
5.With regard to policy decisions, Romney will not talk about his stand on abortion which requires a woman to keep the child full term in cases of rape and incest. He does not want to talk about Todd Akin or the GOP platform.
6.Romney will not talk about his lack of support for the Lily Ledbetter Act requiring equal pay for women in the workplace. Evidently he approves women making $.77 for every $1.00 earned by men.
7.Romney will not talk about Bush 43 who squandered a Clinton surplus and created a huge debt that led to a national recession.
8.Romney will not talk about Bush 43's war on Afghanistan and his preemptive strike on Iraq. He might talk about attacking Iran.
9.Romney will not talk about an immigration policy that gives undocumented aliens a path to citizenship.
10.Romney will not talk about his plan to dismantle Medicare as we know it and privatize it into a coupon system so seniors will pay more.
11.Romney will not talk about his intentions to deregulate banks so they can again create an economic recession that we are still recovering from.
There are a lot of important things that Romney does not want to talk about. So I expect he will use portions of his stump speech to demonize President Obama, lie, then lie some more. Romney is good making broad-brush statements that are meaningless. He might even sing off-key "America the Beautiful". I hope not.
The Truth: What We’re Not Hearing A lot Of From The GOP
Did anyone notice the Republican Convention didn't lively up until Mike Huckelberry, the propaganda-pimp , Hannity & Lush Limbaugh wannbe, and smear merchant started his White Supremest Hateful Crusade?
Anyhow, like President Obama said the Republican’s campaign of brag is that “we will not let the truth get in the way.”
Romney and his campaign have not told the truth in TV ads accusing the president of ending the work requirement in landmark welfare reform legislation that was passed in the 1990s.

There you have it folks Romney and his campaign are bold faced "LIARS". You get it? They admit it and don't care. Shame, Shame, Shame!!!

What part of "NO' is it the low informed T-bangers can not see? The RepubliCONs have said "NO" to everything the President laid forth. Even FAUX NEWS called Ryan 's speech "Deceiving"!!!
Yup, the same
Fox NewsFox Lies where studies show people who watch no news at all know more than Fox viewers.Isn't it funny NOT one speaker mentioned BAIN Capital???
Also, I noticed Paul Ryan didn't mention:
rape or incest
his past plan to hand over Social Security to Wall Street
how his budget would disembowel programs helping the poor and raise taxes on 95% of Americans just to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires and increase the deficit
Let's go. Let's get those Mofo's continued lies corrected. Let them squirm we can beat their asses.

Two more excellent speeches from Condi Rice and Paul Ryan.
Again, nothing more needs to be said.
Yesterday I said I was looking forward to many laughs at the FR lefty liberals reactions to the two excellent speeches by Ann Romney and Chris Christie. I was somewhat disappointed to see that only a few of the regular FR lefty liberals showed up yesterday. I guess most of them decided to stay in bed, whimpering and crying, with the covers pulled up over their heads.
LOL!!!
Feisty, Ron, Beverly, a very good morning to you,
RNC platform. Anti-choice for women.
There is no daylight between Paul Ryan and Todd Akin on women's reproductive rights:
Akin purports that if a women GETS pregnant, then she wasn't ACTUALLY raped. And for a number of years, Akin and Ryan have been musing on the possible varieties of legitimate rape, and co-sponsoring bills together. They concur that rape or incest is no excuse for special treatment.
Ryan could not be further to the ultra right on the subject of women's choice. Towhit, he also proposed a National bill forcing mandatory ultrasounds upon any woman requesting an abortion, and for any reason. This requires a woman to be probed with a large object against her will, to disregard the opinion of her doctor, and to pay for the invasive procedure herself.
Paul Ryan co-sponsored a Personhood Bill with Akin - they are both against hormonal birth control and IUDs.
Ryan is also against in-vitro fertilization. The pair of them would END a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, and to space her children.
Ryan voted to defund Planned Parenthood 4 times.
The GOP/Romney/Ryan agenda is a war of control on women's bodies, rights, families, lives.
The Ryan Speech – Misleading?
Ryan delivered quite the stemwinder last night, carving up the president and his failed policies with gusto and ease. There was more than enough red meat in that speech to energize the party faithful and move the needle on the enthusiasm meter. But the conservative icon also took some liberties with the facts that may come back to haunt him.
On his riff implying the closing of the Jaynesville GM plant was Obama's fault, Ryan failed to point out the plant was closed in June 2008 – before Obama became president. On his criticism of Obama ignoring the Bowles-Simpson debt reduction report, Ryan didn't mention that he was a member of that commission and voted against the final report. And on the Republican new found glee of showing how cuts in Medicare were used to fund Obamacare, Ryan didn't mention that his own budget proposal includes those very same Medicare cuts.
I must confess to being rather disappointed in this sloppiness in such a high profile speech. I'll cut him some slack on the Medicare cuts because he has previously (and correctly) pointed out that his budget starts with a current CBO budget baseline that already includes those cuts. But there is no similar excuse available for either the GM plant remark or the implication of his Bowles-Simpson comment.
Paul Ryan gave a fabulous speech that clearly articulated an approach to governance that is in sharp contrast with what we've seen in the last four years -- exactly the kind of contrast that should be presented to voters as they make their choice in this election. But that admirable (and winning) message runs the risk of being diluted by playing fast and loose with a presentation of facts that anyone with an internet connection can discover is misleading.
Ryan and his speechwriters will need to tighten up their game going forward.
_________
Without question, the highlight of the evening was Condi Rice when she moved the audience to rise and cheer with the power of this quintessentially American remark:
"And on a personal note, a little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham – the most segregated big city in America - her parents can't take her to a movie theater or a restaurant – but they make her believe that even though she can't have a hamburger at the Woolworth's lunch counter – she can be President of the United States. And she becomes the Secretary of State."
Paul Ryan - Home Run
Ron....excellent post. The GOP platform should be how many lies can we tell and how many will swallow them whole. The unspoken truth never enters into it.
Here’s some suggested language for the Citizens United constitutional amendment Barry and the lefty liberals are whining about:
The First Amendment clause protecting the right to freedom of speech shall be amended as follows: “Congress shall make no law…. abridging the freedom of speech, except for corporations and any other entity lefty liberals would like to muzzle,”. This amendment shall be effective immediately after it is in compliance with the provisions of Article V Amendment.
Fortunately, the founders had enough foresight to anticipate that there would be many morons trying to undermine the principles contained in the Constitution and made the amendment process slow and deliberate to ensure that only widely accepted changes could be made. All Barry and the lefty liberals need to do is get the House and Senate to pass the amendment with a two-thirds majority (LOL!!!), and then get 38 state legislatures to approve it (LMAO!!!). Or they could get 34 state legislatures to call for a constitutional convention for proposing amendments which would then need to be ratified by 38 state legislatures (LMFAO!!!!!).
Obviously this nonsense is just mental masturbation by Barry intended to stroke the lefty liberals into a state of ecstasy in a Presidential election year.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From Politico:
Obama calls for constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United
In a chat with the website Reddit, President Obama called for serious look at a constitutional amendment to reverse the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.
"Over the longer term, I think we need to seriously consider mobilizing a constitutional amendment process to overturn Citizens United (assuming the Supreme Court doesn't revisit it). Even if the amendment process falls short, it can shine a spotlight of the super-PAC phenomenon and help apply pressure for change," Obama wrote.
The 2010 case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission allowed for unlimited corporate and union spending on electioneering communication.
Critics charge that it has opened the door for big-money anonymous contributors to dominate politics — but many of the third-party issue ads and big money outside groups were legal before the decision.
God gives us our rights not the government.
God gives us our rights not the government.
GOP rallying cry: God gives us our rights not the government.
Then why do they want to make LAWS to take away my right to chose.
My faith should be my choice.
Nov. 6, 2012, I will use my God given right to chose to not vote for the GOP.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OFMI4RftNSo
Let me repeat: Europe's economy is contracting, while the U.S. economy is growing. So what do the Republicans want to do?
Mitt Romney would have let the auto industry go bankrupt. Mitt Romney thinks unemployment insurance is a disaster. Mitt Romney wants to cut Medicare and Social Security benefits. Mitt Romney wants to cut benefits on just about everyone who needs them in order to finance even more tax cuts for the extremely wealthy— people such as Mitt Romney (Old wealhty Caucsian people).
Republican congressional leaders want to:
Repeal the Obama health care law, which would explode the national debt.
Republican congressional leaders offer nothing to replace the Obama health care law.
House Republicans voted to end Medicare.
House Republicans want to take away a million Pell Grants.
House Republicans want to punish low income Americans.
House Republicans want to punish senior citizens.
House Republicans want to punish women.
House Republicans want to drive even more Americans from some semblance of food security into poverty.
The House Republican budget leader wants to drive even more children into poverty.
"MYTH" Romney won't release his tax returns. What is he hiding? Show them "MYTH" otherwise they will hound you. Americans need to know you are not a felon. Oh, and Miss Ann, you could show your Costo card too. We don't need anymore Romney LIES!

Paul Ryan can give an eloquent speech. However the content of said speeches is questionable at best, and outright lies at worst.
Only a certified card carrying right wing nut would declare a speech filled with blatant lies to be a home run! lol
Even Mr. Me First Bill had enough sense to call it out for what it was and fall on his sword...
Not only are you a coward, you've proven yourself to be an stone cold idiot as well!
Condi Rice couldn't find a failed bush foreign policy
Condi Rice gave a great speech but George Bush's candy woman should have inserted something else in her speech by saying... way back when I was a little girl in the racist south before I got my gig as SoS Black people couldn't vote and they still can't.
She could have legitimatized President Obama's citizenship too in order to push back on some of those whacked out T- bangers.
BTW: I though it was strange Condi couldn't find not one failed foreign policy of her husband, George Bush as she once called him.

Here's an interesting clip from an AP article on the new bin Laden killing book written by a SEAL who was in the room when he was shot. It further demonstrates my belief that Joe “Gaffe” Biden is the Dems crazy uncle that should be kept locked up in the White House attic:
BTW, when Navy SEAL’s think you are a moron, it’s a pretty good bet that you REALLY are a moron.
It's 'choose' dear. What you chose to do in the past is your business. And please don't keep scaring yourself, it's not good for the soul.
My, a law taking away someones right to chose, ehhy, choose.
bill,
I agree with you about Condi's speech.
She gave a great speech about the issues of the day.
She did not have to use partisan tea party language to present her conservative views.
In fact, while she was speaking , I thought about Hillary and her have dinner together and what a great conversation they would have.
Her personal story reminds us of the segregated world we all lived in. She was a friend of the small girls who were killed in the Birmingham church bombing during the civil rights movement in the South.
How the he!! did you watch that hate fest? The scary part is the party of the rich is also the party of the stupid. There is one hell of a lot of stupid. Please lets get off our lib. butts and vote to save Obama.

Bev: "legitimatezed"?!?!?!?!
Have you been taking ESL lessons from da Rev. Al??
Good Morning.
The writing is on the wall. The Republicans are liers, womanisers, idiots, racist. Is their anything else that you feisty and your elites clan can come up yet.
Half of the country can not be stupid, but yet we are hoping and planning for good change and hope.
And it the end of the day as you Libs always say.
It will be Romney/Ryan that will send Obama away.
It was a great night and all that NBC could come up with was the plant closing in 2008. Yes, Obama was not President but he did Promise another broken promise and it is on record.
Get over it.
I couldn't vote when I was 18, but I sure as hell could be drafted, and I was. You discover in short order that what you learned in civics was more fantasy than reality. I haven't missed a Presidential election since I could vote. I sure as hell won't miss this one.
For ten cycles I voted for the lesser of two evils or a third-party candidate who couldn't win. Then, in 2008 along came a candidate I liked. We shared a belief in America. I could finish his sentences. We were on the same page, and so was a majority of voters. President Obama won that election. I knew exactly what Michelle Obama meant when she said she was proud again. I knew what Chris Matthews meant when he had that tingle. Someone we liked AND trusted was President.
However, as his inauguration approached we were discovering that the economy was crashing. People were losing their jobs in stunning numbers. By the time President Obama took office we were in a total free fall. We weren't hurtling toward a recession, we were heading full speed into an outright depression.
And what do we learn? This is an opportunity for Republicans to destroy America. Senator Mitch McConnell - a United States Senator - promises to crush the President's efforts to restore the country. Within 24 hours of President Obama's inauguration, Republican Representatives meet at the Benedict Arnold club to create a plan to scuttle the ship of state.
Then, last night Paul Ryan says that in fairness, they really have to admit that President Obama was handed a poor economy. But, says Ryan, he has had three years to fix the problem, and doggone it, his policies just haven't worked.
This miserable punk, along with his fellow saboteurs, voted for every single budget busting proposal that led to the nation's problems. Ryan, Cantor, McCarthy - the "young guns" - had no problem blowing up the budget. And then they blame the President for the debt.
And what about his prospective boss? Here we have the unbelievable spectacle of a Presidential candidate - Mitt Romney - running in a virtual dead heat with President Obama. We discover that barely one in four Americans like this man. One in four! This is a man who refuses to release a single full tax return. Not one! We know he and his VP choice are serial liars, who when busted in broad daylight simply plow ahead. We know Romney is a draft-dodger who is itching to send more American troops to their deaths in the Middle East.
I'm damned proud that President Obama risked his political capital to pass the ACA. Moreso, when it is blindingly clear that Republicans fought him tooth and nail on ACA, and now promise to destroy Medicare, gut Medicaid, and privatize Social Security.
So, here it is, my 12th Presidential election. I don't agree with everything President Obama has done. But I know he has been stymied repeatedly by Republicans in the House and the Senate at every turn. This isn't just a case of liking my candidate. I do. It's also a case of being utterly repulsed by a Republican Party that cheers failure and the destruction of this country.
Nope, I sure as hell won't miss this election.

Paul Ryan Said Something That Should Force Him Off the Ticket, But You Probably Didn't Hear About It.
Last week, Paul Ryan gave an interview in which, defending his position that there should be no excuses for abortion, he referred to rape as a "method of conception."
According to the man who would be the proverbial heartbeat away from the White House, and who in any event would -- given Romney's utter hollowness -- have an inordinate influence on the judicial appointments that will determine how much freedom our children get to live under, RAPE = "METHOD OF CONCEPTION." And yet, unless you're a frequenter of one of a dozen or so lefty blogs -- or my friend on Facebook -- you probably knew nothing about it.

Yes, because "corporations are people my friend".
So Romney and the Repugs want to "NOW" sweet talk the Latino voters. My how interesting, now after they've been insulting them and ignoring them for years. DEPORT THEM ALL. LAZY GOOD FOR NOTHING MOOCHERS ON OUR WELFARE SYSTEM. Romney had them working in his yard before he discovered they were " God no, MEXICANS". Couldn't tell they were "MEXICANS" by looking at them. Give me a break liar. Of course "NOW" he knows that he needs the Latin vote if he has ANY hope of winning the election. Well guess what? Turn about's fair play. It's what, around 8:30 in the morning in Roselle right now?
Why don't you pour yourself another Bloody Mary. It will help you get through the morning and I hear it's good for the shakes.
All if this finger pointing, name calling, lying, will fade into obscurity on election day. Most of the middle class that are ranting and frothing at the mouth realize they are being played and are not really included in the GOP's long term game plan. When they "Get in the booth" they know, right now, they will pull the lever for Obama. Mitt has no experience in Government, Foreign Policy, Economies of Scale and all he knows is how to leverage a deal to make investors money. He could care less about the middle class that Bain has run over in every community it touched when Mitt Romney Came to Town!
Bill Fairfax, kudos for your assessment/critique of Ryan's speech.
I chose not to watch the speech, have ignored the RNC all week. Rather, spent time watching something I enjoyed. Regarding Ryan's stretching of the truth, it strenghtens the earlier thread that mentioned most people disregard the media even if they say "their" guy is lying.
Gingerbread Mamma
Ron....excellent post.
I second that emotion; Ron.
The GOP platform should be how many lies can we tell and how many will swallow them whole. The unspoken truth never enters into it.
Gingerbread Mamma,
Some how I don't think "MYTH" and his blue eyed monster will get away with it. The MSM and fact checkers are all over them and their blatant LIES.

Obama/Biden 2012
As would be Obama's proposal. The right to choose, it just gets so complicated.
The liberals form of 'Amen'.
The Four (4) main Objectives Mitt Romney must acheive tonight? I'm glad you asked.
First, he must convince us he did Not committ a FELONY by "RETRO-ACTIVELY RETIRING" from BAIN CAPITAL.
Secondly, he must Explain why under the cover of darkness, the night before he declared himself a candidate for the GOP, he transferred all his ill-gotten Loot in his hidden SWISS BANK accounts to his Wife's name.
Thirdly, he must tell the AMERICAN people why he had to LAUNDERY all the PENSION FUNDS he RAIDED from hard working Americans, which he now hides in his phony off-shore CAYMAN ISLAND shell-companies.
Fourthly, he has a lot of explaining to do about his NOT PAYING TAXES for the last Ten (yes! 10 ), according to his fellow MORMONS, and believe me his fellow Mormons would know.
So, let's send Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, and all those REPUBLICANS "back to the DUNG HEAP of HISTORY", where they all belong.
Republicans talk about jobs, the economy, fixing Medicare, prolonging Social Security.
Liberals talk about abortion.
That's the 2012 campaign rgiht there.
Sounds like a great set up for a Tom Clancy novel. Throw in a few submarines, a Russian spy, and something about birth certificates, and I think you have a NY Times best seller, at least in the fiction section.
Bill, Fairfax -
Thank you for expressing what I felt about last night's events much better than I'd have been able to put into words myself. I'm a liberal and for once I approve your message!
Sandy1851937: "GOP rallying cry: God gives us our rights not the government"
Glad I wasn't the only one who got tired of hearing that. Every time I heard it the last couple days all I could think of was "deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed". In other words, you and me. All of us. Oh, and P.S. - I'm JoAnne and JoAnna is JoAnna and with any luck, never the twain shall meet, okay? :)
And yet Republicans' proposals fix none of what they talk about. That's why all the regular GOP posters here do nothing but deflect. How ironic is that?
Gingerbread Mamma,
The MSM and fact checkers and FAUX News, of all media outlets, are all over Ryan's blatant LIES calling it "Deceiving".

Rachel Maddow. David Letterman declared Rach the smartest person in the world, if they were the only two people left in the world. You just can't argue with that.
backhouse said -- the lie Ryan tells about the Janesville GM plant that went bankrupt before President Obama was even sworn in;
Individual plants do not go bankrupt. So you are telling a lie.
The plant was closed officially (Janesville Gazette) in April, 2009. 3 months after Obama became President. So you are telling a lie.
400 economists and 5 Nobel Laureates disagree.
Once again, I could not bring myself to watch the speeches or the coverage. I went to my Chess Club meeting and an early bed. They are not speaking to me or for me and watching them is a waste of my time.
I am shocked that Condi Rice had the nerve to show her face in public after her complicity in the Bush White House debacle. Shame. Shame on you Condoleeza Rice for enabling that administration and all the evil they did to this nation.
So the circus is over tonight. The clowns can all climb back into their little cars and go back to their lives watching FOX news and listening to Rush Limbaugh and believing they are the one true faith and the salvation of this nation.
Evil walks in this country and the assault on our democracy and constitution continues unabated. If you don't believe me just look at what is happening, right now, in the United States.
Republican state legislatures are enacting laws to disenfranchise voters by forcing people to have certain state-approved photo identification before they are allowed to vote. My wife voted in the run-off election last Tuesday and had to show either her Driver's license or her Voter ID card, nothing else would suffice, before she was allowed to vote. We have lived in our little house and neighborhood for 31 years. We have voted in the same location and looked across the table at the same election day staff for 31 years. But NOW we have to prove who we are all because of a non-existent bogey man, Voter Fraud...ooooooOOOOOooooo. Scary. Many elderly and minority voters will not go to the extra trouble to get the required forms of ID and will not be able to exercise their most fundamental constitutional right.
Shame on you GOP, shame.
There are full-scale assaults on traditional funding sources for Democrat candidates, ie: Unions and Trail Lawyers and others. The GOP committee man for Oklahoma, a trial lawyer, boycotted the GOP convention this year and changed his voter registration to "Independent" because of what his own party did to him by enacting their "Tort Reform" laws that limit the amount of damages that can be awarded in civil, wrongful death or injury lawsuits. He told them they were taking food off his table and they told him, "Tough", we're doing this. End of story. I guess the word came down from on high.
SHAME ON YOU GOP. SHAME.
And finally, the most insidious of all, the Citizens United and related decisions by the US Supreme Court. The selling of America to the highest bidder. We're all well versed on what that single decision has done to the American electoral process.
That's not to mention the demonizing of gays, Hispanics and other minority groups over the years in order to create wedge issues right before an election or the "swift boating" of good, honest men and women by special interest groups from the opposing party. Propaganda filled with half-truths and outright lies. Shame.
What is to become of us?
As you can tell, I'm not feeling well today and I'm fed up with politics in this country. It is more than a blood sport, it has become a fight to the death, the death of America as we have known it.
We'll win in 2012. The GOP doesn't quite have all their ducks in a row as yet. It's going to take them another 2-4 years to get their voter disenfranchisement laws in place and to fully cripple traditional Democrat funding sources. But they will be ready in 2016 and I dread the consequences.
Please forgive the long post and the ramblings of an old man who is not well and has probably seen too much in his 62 years. I may leave the country even if we win this November, just so I can get established elsewhere before 2016 and before I'm too old. We're looking at Costa Rica, Ecuador or Vancouver, BC.
My best to you all.

Mr. Bill was man enough to tell the truth, I see you're still a coward who is completely incapable of standing up to his own! lol
skip Nicholson - We republicans will forgive your senile vote for Obama!
The speakers last night were inspirational. It's no wonder you guys are are in a tizzy this morning. But you Liberals need to come up with something more substantive than this lying nonesense. I don't think you want to go there. No one lies, distorts and distracts more than Obama. And people know it.
You might not agree with the GOP platform and their stance on many issues but you have to give them respect for the way they are approaching this convention. In 2008, it was one personal attack after another and McCain, Palin et al just couldnt help themselves but to try and play the same dirty tricks game as Obama (as Hillary so eloquently laid out too). Now every speech from Artur Davis, Condi Rice, Christie to Ryan have avoided the personal attacks and have just presented the contrast between the failed Obama economic policies and their plans. They have pointed out what true leadership by using GOP governors from New Mexico, Ohio, Wisconsin, SC, NJ, Indiana who hae implemented the economic policies advocated by Romney/Ryan and how they can turn this country around by facing the tough problems we have. Jen or Fiesty do you think at the democratic convention we will see Quinn giving a speech on how great the economic turn around is working in Illinois? Do you think he will talk about how the Obama economic policies have worked in his state? What about Jerry Brown or Cuomo? I can see them now talking about how the teachers unions have prevented education reform and kept the education gap from being closed?
Jen, why do I think the democratic convention will take an approach like you do and just personally attack and ignore the issues of leadership or why their failed policies havent worked.
Bill, Fairfax - I too appreciated your post. I enjoy reading well-reasoned and evidence-based opinions from the "other side." And it was good to see that you can acknowledge when your guys lie. We need more people like you on this blog, instead of the dogma-spewing ODS sufferers. Thanks!
Among the economists signing on to the statement are Nobel laureates Gary Becker, Robert Lucas, Robert Mundell, Edward Prescott, and Myron Scholes. Others have received the highest honors available for their academic work, some have advised U.S. policymakers, and all are longtime champions of economic freedom. It's a serious group of people who have a major impact on the study and teaching of economics in the United States and globally and who, let it be said, know what they are talking about.

Sarah Palin's Spotlight Deficit Disorder
Sarah Palin said that all of her scheduled interviews on Fox News had been canceled for Wednesday evening, posting on her Facebook page that she was “disappointed” by the decision.
Here's what Palin said on her Facebook page:
I’m sorry Fox cancelled all my scheduled interviews tonight because I sure wanted to take the opportunity on the air to highlight Senator John McCain’s positive contributions to America, to honor him, and to reflect on what a biased media unfairly put him through four years ago tonight. Granted, our honored and esteemed war hero has gone through much more than the liberal media can ever do to him in their efforts to harm this patriot. I look forward to hearing his words to his fellow Americans tonight more than any of the other convention speeches. God bless John McCain. Thank you for everything. And happy birthday, my friend.

Obama/Biden 2012
You mean "You didn't build that."? Can you put that in a favorable context for me? It was Obama's defining moment so far in this election. He revealed his true feelings and it will continue to haunt him right out of the White House.
Yeah, because a business built the infrastructure it uses; an entrepreneur taught himself in school and gave himself a loan...Devoting an entire day to this is further proof of the mental midgets of the Right.
Paul Ryan: the poster boy for the Ayn Rand narcissistic "I only need to worry about ME, ME, ME!" The man who professes faith, yet follows an atheist. The man whose faith plays lip service to helping the poor, while Ryan's budget decimates supportive services for those in need.
And the man who lies. Who looks directly into the camera and teleprompter, and LIES. Do you remember the last Republican administration? The "mushroom clouds" the WMD's that took our young people into a war?
You want THAT again?
Ryan is the man paid for by the Corporate owners of the Republican Party to keep Mittens in line. THEY don't even trust Romney.
That speech told you exactly who Ryan is, someone who believes that public service means treating the American people like they are stupid.
Those of you who support the Ryan/Romney team are exactly that.
Yeah, I know the reasoning. I just don't buy it.
If you think an entrepreneur is able to construct a business from scratch with no help whatsoever (no teachers, no financial assistance, etc.) then you seriously need an education.
To add to potential vote disenfranchisement through voter id laws, the GOP has been at work gerrymandering the voting districts.
Update on Texas redistricting...
Austin American Statesman 8/29/12
__________—
A federal court panel rejected three Texas redistricting maps Tuesday, finding the new U.S. House and Texas Senate districts were drawn with the intent to discriminate against minority voters and noting evidence "strongly suggests" that the Texas House map improperly targeted Hispanic, black or Asian voters.
The ruling that the Legislature's Republican-drawn maps violated the Voting Rights Act is unlikely to affect November's elections, which will be conducted under a temporary set of maps drawn by a separate court panel in San Antonio.
Texas had asked a three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to approve the maps in a process called preclearance — a Voting Rights Act requirement for jurisdictions like Texas that have a history of discrimination against minority voters.
The U.S. Justice Department opposed approval of the maps for the U.S. and Texas Houses, but civil rights groups and other organizations opposed all three maps, including the Texas Senate.
On Tuesday, the judges ruled that Texas failed to meet its obligation under the Voting Rights Act to show that the maps, drawn during the 2011 legislative session, did not "have the effect of denying or abridging the right to vote on account of race or color, or language minority group."
Although the panel found no direct evidence that the maps were intentionally discriminatory, the opinion by U.S. Circuit Judge Thomas Griffith noted several instances suggesting racial bias:
■ In the maps for Congress, three black Democratic representatives in Houston and Dallas were given new districts that excluded long-established offices where constituent services are provided. No Anglo incumbents were similarly inconvenienced, the court said.
The districts were further harmed when significant economic generators, including large businesses or universities, were relocated to adjacent Anglo districts, Griffith wrote.
"The only explanation Texas offers for this pattern is ‘coincidence.' But if this was coincidence, it was a striking one indeed," Griffith wrote. "It is difficult to believe that pure chance would lead to such results."
■ The Texas Senate map improperly targeted the Fort Worth district represented by Sen. Wendy Davis, a Democrat, by "cracking" the minority population — placing African American and Hispanic voters in three other districts that shared few common interests.
Texas lawyers said the move was best explained by partisan, not racial, goals — a "plausible explanation," Griffith noted, if not for the way the Senate map was drawn.
Sen. Kel Seliger, R-Amarillo and chairman of the redistricting committee, escorted many Republican senators into an anteroom off the Senate floor to review drafts of maps. Democrats, and Davis in particular, were excluded from providing input, Griffith wrote.
"One would expect a state that is as experienced with (voting rights) litigation as Texas to have ensured that its redistricting process was beyond reproach," he wrote.
■ The 150 Texas House districts were redrawn without adding one "Hispanic opportunity district" — where Hispanic voters have an opportunity to elect their preferred candidates — despite dramatic growth in the state's Latino population, the court found.
Tuesday's decision also found that mapmakers improperly diluted minority voting strength in three congressional districts, including District 25, currently represented by U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin. Griffith dissented from this portion of the ruling, writing that he believed Doggett's district did not qualify for voting-rights protection.
All three judges — two appointed by a Republican president, one by a Democrat — agreed that Texas erred by failing to draw another minority opportunity district for Congress.
Texas has 10 districts where minority voters are able to elect preferred candidates — unchanged despite adding four congressional districts because of population growth, even though 89 percent of that growth was fueled by minorities, the court said. One more minority district would have met voting-rights requirements, the court said.
_______
GOP will attempt to forestall Texas democrats at any cost. A grim projection, if Romney wins in 2012 and he implements his punishing agenda, Texas comes into play in 2016. Tired from a disastrous four years of the GOP, Texas a swing state becomes.
If Obama wins in 2012, slowly but surely Texas will continue to turn blue. Once it is lost to the GOP by 2024+/-, I predict very few GOP presidents.
Joe in Albany
but there is:
What Condi failed to answer is her role in a war that was started because of Bush administration's lies: 5000+ Americans and over 100,000 Iraqis dead. Trillions of dollars sepent.
What Ryan failed to answer is his plan that takes away from the poor and gives it to the rich. Ryan himself benefitted form the socialist programs, yet he feels that others are not entitled to them. He is a total hypocrite.
California Tom
Your not getting their votes, or Women's votes and your not going to be elected. It's your own NARCISSISTIC behaviors fault.
Let's not forget prickly fingered, mummified, Gov Jan brewer's rule of law.
governor responded to the President's order by ordering state agencies not to issue driver's licenses or state IDs to anyone here illegally.

No suggestions. No insights into what will fix things. No Explanation about why his ideas will work.
There is no real use in debating Feisty or Bev...they are unemployed so they have so much more time to waste than those of us that pay for their govt benefit checks. They enjoy being part of the 8.3%...and growing...it allows them to stay at home hitting refresh to be the first to post on every political article on the site. Feisty is blaming Bush 4 years later....STILL??
It really is a shame. I wish some of the people that work w/ me put this much effort into their jobs as you two do posting drivel.
If someone offered you a job would you even accept or do you enjoy taking handouts from those of us that work and contribute to society?
Its sad that this is all you two live for. You are on here all day long, every day.....so sad. I truly feel bad for the miserable life you must live. You probably both still live at home in your parents basement...so adorable!!
Xabre
how about roads, courts, laws, etc. in this country that make it easier to do business in this country. Why did Romney not start his Bain Capital in Russia or Somalia???? He was able to make lots of money BECAUSE he started his business in this country. He would NEVER be as successful in other countries like Somalia so for him to claim that he was not helped by the this particular enviroment is totally hypocritical.
Ron Fournier, formerly a honcho at Associated Press and now working for the National Journal, says that Romney is playing the race card with his lies about Obama removing the work requirements for welfare. And Fournier uses the word "lying", too:
http://www.nationaljournal.com/2012-election/why-and-how-romney-is-playing-the-race-card-20120829?page=1
Fournier used to be accused of being in the tank for John McCain back in 2008, and he's not exactly one of those biased liberal media types the wingnuts rant about. The Republican convention's entire theme is based on a pack of lies about Obama, including the misrepresentation of the "didn't build that" remark as last night's theme.
Maybe the press is finally beginning to realize that Romney, who demands that we "trust" him, is running a campaign of deceit that has no precedent in modern American presidential politics. When a candidate keeps lying like Romney does, it should be the duty of the press to inform the public of that fact.
No Xabre, the big mistakes (and there are several) about the "you didn't build that" were:
1) Complete disregard for the effort, initiative and risk of the entrepreneur - even to the condescending "other people work hard" and "other people are smart" jab. The message was "So what if you risked everything, worked your butt off and had success - you're nothing special - other people work hard too."
2) Implying that since infrastructure and education was available then Government has a piece of you and your business. "You didn't build that - you used our roads and schools so we own a part of that business and we intend on collecting. It also gets the money form all those successful people.
3) The fallacy that "government" built all the roads and schools. Many roads and bridges and schools were not built with government money but with private money. In fact the government relies more on private company innovation (think computers, for example) than the other way around.
“Cracker Bay”
Mitt Romney’s campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.
The exclusive event, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht “Cracker Bay,” was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney’s bid.
“I think it’s ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn’t even pay its taxes,” said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.
The Cracker Bay is owned by Gary Morse, developer of the Villages retirement community. Companies controlled by Morse gave nearly $1 million to the pro-Romney Restore Our Future superPAC.
Romney to date has declined to identify the names of his top "bundlers" -- those who gather checks from scores of donors on the candidate's behalf.
"He is the first nominee in 12 years to withhold these names," said Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political money on the website opensecrets.org.

you know about Bev's or Feisty's lives as much as you know about how much RomneyHood paid in taxes....
But if you watch Mittens closely when he gives his speech, and the light hits JUUUSSST right, and the camera angle is favorable, you will see strings attached to Mitty's head, mouth, arms and legs, and you might just get a view of the Koch Brothers pulling the strings....
Well I see the dull knives in the drawer came out in force with their silly quips and unintelligent thoughts. If this is what the Democrats have become you truly are the worst of America.
The speeches gave America hope again. I believe we can come out of this mess your social experiment has put us in now. I do not know how but I believe Romney and Ryan do
The Democrats truly hate women, babies the workers and America. It is time for you to go away.
I don't know Kirk I disagree about the presonal attacks. I felt Ryan especially took any shot at the President he could. Also, when the speakers use the term "you didn't buld that" to negatively reflect President Obama is that not attacking him? Yes many of them may not be doing it outright, but to act as if they are not engaging in cheap politics is ridicuolous.
In all honesty, and even more so after watching the convention, I do not fault Republicans for some of their beliefs no matter how much I disagree with them. The problem I have is how hypocritical the message is coming from those speaking it.
We have draft dodgers who want to send us to war... Those who benefitted from government spending, denouncing it, closing the door behind them... Pro-Life - Anti welfare "Have your baby and starve it too"... They want to empower all individuals and by individual that means wealthy Christain Males.
At the rate the Republicans are going rukidding, if they SHOULD get into office, so many Americans will be enslaved to Mittens and the 1%, there may be no America left.
But, I suppose for Anti-Americans like you, that is just fine.
Good grief Miss Feisty, such a gruesome thought this early in the morning. I may need a few Twinkies to recover.
It was a home run, Ryan just swung and missed a few times before hitting it out. We're in the playoffs now and he's gotta watch out for those nasty down and away sliders.
OK, but don't make a habit of it.
Oh brother. The message was that you had help along the way.
Implying? Judging from the rest of this point, you're just putting words in his mouth that weren't there. If you had grasped the full context of his message, you'd just see that he was pointing out you had help along the way. This is true for any business.
Public roads are not built with private money.
Nasty sliders? Like that "form of conception comment"? That would have been a strikeout on a 60mph fastball.
@Geo
No forgiveness necessary. No senility apparent. I'm sorry but I cannot forgive you for what you and your party are doing to my country. Stop listening to Fox and Rush and wake up and smell the coffee.
Sarah, once again a stellar performance, it's good to have you back.
I was going to post my version of the speeches..
"Blah-blah-blah hate obama.
Blah-blah-blah obama failed.
Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah God bless the Gop."
I think that pretty well sums it up, but I like your version better.
Obama/Biden 2012
Ron, excellent post. Romney will not tell us anything tonight about his plans but he will spend his time blaming President Obama for the disaster the GOP created; Romney will spew one lie after another because as his own campaign said, "we will not let the truth get in the way". Of all the speeches this week, that single comment by the Romney campaign should give every voter pause. "We will not let the truth get in the way" should be banner headlines in every newspaper and on every web page. It is the simple truth and that truth was proved by every GOP speaker last night.
As for Condi Rice, I respect her accomplishments. She gave a nice speech; one of the more pleasant ones given during this Convention week. However, she grew up in a segregated south but could not bring herself to say Voter ID laws would again deprive many blacks like her the right to vote. She could not bring herself to discredit the birther bigotry, the dog-whistle blowing that must be as obvious to her as it is to democrats.
But as far as I'm concerned, Rice shares blame for the Bush/GOP disasterous 8 years in which this country became mired in two unfunded and lenghy wars, mired in deficits and debt. To me, it does not matter what Condi Rice says today, or that she herself experienced prejudice, hate and Jim Crow mentality as a child because on Meet the Press, she told America that we could not let the smoking gun be a mushroom cloud. Rice did not question the sliced and diced intelligence spun by Cheney/Wolfowitz/Neocons; did not listen to the opposition voices in the agency she headed who claimed there was not substantial evidence of WMDs. No, she went along because of fear; and sadly, too many Americans went along because that fear was fed and exacerbated by those who had been pushing for an Iraq war for over a decade. These same people now push for more wars in Iran, Syria and elsewhere; we heard the drums of war in parts of the various speeches.
HA, Albany Joe whining that liberals weren't here yesterday and he wanted to "chat" with them. Really? I was wondering where the conservatives were, the ones who actually post something worth reading. There were a lot of pack-running, one-line vulgar, hate spewers who swoop in periodically before swooping to some other site, but beyond that, where were all the conservatives yesterday?
Hi newdayDAWNING...RETURNED

Jim in Houston-1509351
you don't buy it, huh? So explain to me why did Issa secure nearly $1 million (Issa requested more than that) in earmarks that benefiting real estate that he owns?
Issa began requesting millions of dollars worth of earmarks to widen and improve the highway adjacent to his building. In 2008, he requested $2,000,000 to expand the road in front of his building (received $245,000). The following year, Issa made another earmark request for improving the highway next to his building. He earmarked another $570k to add parking lots, widen the road, add bus stops, improve the sewer system, and other utility work.
So explain to me, if you don't buy the fact that good infrastructure BENEFITS BUSINESSES, why is Issa doing all that? He didn't redo A ROAD; he redid THE ROAD.
Better yet...
Where are they today?
Isn't this supposed to be their shining moment! lol
The Mystery Guest
The mystery guest at the Republican Convention will be the ghost of Ronald Reagan summoned by the true believers in the GOP (Greedy Old People ). Or it could be the Incredible Disappearing George W. Bush.
McCain says we have the Money to go to war
to protect the people of Syria.
He gave a follow up interview, where he listed all the bad things
happening to the people in Syria. I agree.
One thing he mentioned was all the RAPES.
Yes, we should care about women who have been raped.
You know... the government doesn't really make any money at all. It confiscates it from tax payers. That is why your war on success is so precarious. You don't even seem to understand where your money comes from.
We need an honest debate on the issues. When lies are told about Medicare and Welfare, nobody wins. Facts should be used when discussing the issues.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) which reviews legislation and budget matters should be the highest authority here. They look at the details of proposed legislation, approved legislation, and budgets and estimate their costs and revenues. Congress and the President respect their reports as the best estimates available.
When they looked at Obama's $716 billion in cuts to Medicare over 10 years, they concluded that the cuts would not affect Medicare recipients and that they were reflective of legitimate cost savings due to lower administrative costs of providers and cost savings from fraud reduction.
When they looked at Ryan's Medicare Plan, they saw this same $716 billion being cut from Medicare. It was used to help reduce the deficit, but it did not reflect any cost savings because his budget assumes ACA will be repealed. I am still puzzled by this accounting trick and would like Ryan to spend more of his time explaining it and less spreading Lies about Obama's Medicare Plan.
This issue too important to be decided by the winner of a lying contest.
Rick Santorum: "Hands"
Icky Ricky Santorum blew up Twitter night before last with his hands-on speech at the RNC. Here is the 26 second video of the best parts.

LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, Talk about Hand
JiveJOB. Uggggh, Icky Ricky's Pants are on Fire!!!Icky Ricky hands will never shake hands with God's Blah people.
Feisty , get the popcorn ready it's going be more hilarious tonight when Queen Ann's Robot takes the podium.
Kirk,
I don't know what 'feed' you've been watching; but no personal attacks? REALLY?
From FoxNews:
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/
I agree with others that Bill Fairfax gave a reasonable assessment. With that said, Ryan has the charisma that the Republican Party has desperately been looking for. I don't agree with a single word he said and found the amount of things he left UNSAID even more telling; but for straight out delivery - he had it in spades.
What's unfortunate for him,...is that their convention was first. And under the GLARE of a week of preparation and some apparent media blowback - he is probably going to suffer some CREDIBILITY issues, once the DEMS are done with him.
At any rate, finding an article on FOX acknowledging these TRUTHS was really just icing on the cake.
Good luck with MoBot tonight. I don't think he has it in him to appear human; but we shall see.
What I do feel 100% confident about, is that in the debates, neither R$mney nor Ryan will be able to hold their own. They simply do not handle factual confrontation well and it will be difficult for them to 'hide' their lying eyes.
PS. I have always liked and admired Condoleeza Rice. Her approach of optimism and positive spirit was the right tone that should have been pervasive throughout the week. Thank goodness she has no future political aspirations. She would be formidable.
On a personal note, though, I still hold her responsible for her role in 9/11 and Iraq. I will forever see her testimony to the 9/11 commission regarding that August PDB - "...I believe it said, "Osama determined to strike in the US." Hard to grasp that brief was dated August 6th, 2001. and yet "...I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people...would try to use a (hijacked) airplane as a missile..."
That one still stings.
And Yellowdog - I have always felt that the Conventions are an important step in the process. It is imperative that we pay attention and listen to BOTH sides. As painful as it is at times to watch the petty "We built that" crowd cling to a misrepresentation as the THEME of their entire presentation - it speaks volumes about how they value truth, disclosure, and 'winning'.
Hi, Beverly!
I keep wondering how all these people can be so fooled by Ryan and the Republicans!
The Ryan boy strikes me as to young and no experience what so ever. I doubt he would have my best interest in mind when he guts Social Security and Medicare .They haven't budged one inch from the original plan to gut all programs for the seniors ..And this Romney character.. I still no nothing about him other then he is a cult member and i see him on TV with lots of young boys around him .This reminds me of Michael Jackson .Any way i still feel Obama has my best interest at heart !
If you do the math at politifact.com, Ryan is only telling the truth 27% of the time.
Republicans = The party of lies.
Americans want an honest debate, the only way Republicans can win is to lie.

I know, and the government spends it on roads, bridges, schools, police, firefighters, courts, and all the other EVIL things we don't need.
Maybe we should model our tax rates on Russia's since the standard rate of Russia corporate profit tax in 2012 is 20%. Companies pay 9% tax on dividend income. I hear they have excellent police, schools, roads, etc. I wonder how many of you would love to move to Russia.
Tell me, the war on success is so precarious in this country, why is everyone dying to do business here?
I hope you are not implying that I should be grateful to get a paycheck like it's charity or something...

God doesn't speak to us directly, so we have to rely on religious right preachers to tell us what God says our rights are. Unfortunately, much is lost in the translation from God-speak to preacher-speak.
He's not a part of the Chicago organized crime syndicate, with which you may be more familiar than with the military code of conduct.
What does that even mean? 73% of everything he says is a lie? Sounds like another convoluted distortion dreamed up by some partisan hack. Would politifact consider your statement above to be truth or a lie? Just curious.
And exactly what do you base this on, Joe in Albany?
No one doubts the Seals are a very elite group and the best at what they do and train incredibly hard and have to be well versed in all aspects of the mission they are engaged in, but I don't think being a member of Mensa is a requirement.
Also, don't accept everything that someone writes as absolute fact, especially considering that most of that book was probably ghost written and the publishers probably also wanted some parts here and there pumped up a bit to help the book sales.
I'll go as far to say to say that making a statement like you did actually makes YOU look like the biggest moron in the room.
Bayllie - Did more Americans die in Iraq or in Chicago during the war? Ask Bev! And whose fault would that be?
Jody - Didn't see Rice's speech, but good recap and thoughts about how she failed during those dark/grim years. She may have succeded politically and career wise, but morally she failed us all.
A person in Bush's administration that I have far more respect for is Colin Powell, someone who stood up to the uber warmongers. Someone who apologized for his mistakes in the UN speech about Iraq.
Shakes head, hard to see how some in the Bush administration are still hailed by some people. Had she said some of the things you mentioned I would have begun to respect her.
Jim in Houston: you might not buy it but I'm going out on a limb here and saying that I believe the owners of businesses really hope all of us will buy what they are selling. No, unless you were mega wealthy to begin with, you did not build your business yourself, bet the SBA (Small business administration) would beg to argue with you when they are deciding on who gets those new business loans - the money comes from the government in case you don't know. I have a degree in business, President Obama was most certainly correct in his statement and I am sure all my previous business professors are chomping at the bits to folks like you who think businesses can survive on their own. They can't, they need the loans to get started, they need the employees and customers to stay open and they need suppliers to deliver the goods they sell. If ever I see a business that thinks they can do it without my support you can better believe I'll walk away and let them try to do it alone, but so far most are pretty happy with my participation in their businesses.
Bill, Fairfax. I will also add my thanks for your honest assessment of Paul Ryan's speech. We may disagree on many issues but I respect anyone, right or left, who dares challenge the words of any politician and takes the time to check the facts.
David W, well said.
YellowdogMark, thank you.
Geo,
So please explain to us, who's fault is the crime in Chicago? If you can say you've proven why crime occurs, or you know why crime occurs, it's a perfect illustration that you know next to nothing about crime or social science.
In fact, the whole reason criminology is a social science and not a hard science, is that proof of anything is impossible to achieve.
So tell us, why did more people die in Chicago, since your post seems to imply you know?
Bayllie...
It's really amazing how much importance the left is putting on Romney's taxes....is knowing what he paid in taxes going to get the economy back on track? Is knowing his taxes going to lower the unemployment rate? I really wish BOTH sides would discuss actual policies and plans to lower debt and jump-start economic growth....BOTH OBAMA & ROMNEY pay less in marginal taxes than almost ALL of us...but is knowing what they paid going to change anything in regards to getting this country back on track???? NO!!! So is that all you have to whine about? Why is no one asking hard questions on Obama's economic record the past 4 years? Does that mean nothing?

you apparently don't know how fact checking works. If I say that President Obama is cutting Medicare benefits by $715 billion - it's a lie. If I say that President Obama gutted work requirements - it's a lie.
No one cares what Ryan says at home. It's what he says PUBLICLY about the President and the Democrats and that's what's being fact checked.
Clara - As painful as it is at times to watch the petty...(RNC broadcasts)
Hi Clara, was watching my new guilty pleasure - Newsroom. Love that show.
The righties claim we're all worked up because Condi gave a good speech and Ryan gave a typical wingnut speech. Huckaby, on the other hand, was a BIG disappointment. I was hoping he would come out with some new bizarre (wingers think anything since 1970 is "new") rhetoric that would give the Dems some fresh meat, but instead, he just threw out the same old bizarre rhetoric. Actually, I feel pretty good this morning because next week our President gets a chance to set the records straight, at least for Americans who want to listen to more than ideologic mumbo-jumbo. If I wanted to be enlightened by the Republicans "plan for the future" I could go down to the library and read one of Barry Goldwater's speeches during the "64 campaign. Same speech, better orator. In fact, Goldwater's speeches were so good, the rightwing base has been using the same speech ever since. Same speeches, terrible orators.
Gov. Christy talked about telling the truth over and over again on Tuesday night. Apparently, Ryan either wasn't listening, or he thinks Christy has gone over to the dark side. What's "the truth" got to do with conservative fairy tales?
At any rate, I can't wait for Monday to get here so the Dems can throw every one of the Reps lies and misguided philosophies into a saucepan and and saute them with them.
Where was the Liberal disdain for the wealthy when John Kerry (who served in Viet Nam btw) was running for president? He is worth twice as much as Romney and didn't even earn it himself. Just shows you how selective their outrage is.

Jim,
It's not the wealthy we disdain. It has nothing to do with what any candidate is worth, seeing as they're all rich.
It's the platform, that we find utterly ridiculous.
@JiminHouston,
It's easy. Look at the total number of statements fact checked at politifact. Count up the ones that are true or mostly true and divide by the total number of statements fact checked. It give you the percentage of true statements.
Regardless, if you look at the fact check of Ryan's speech it's loaded with lies.

Sarah, maybe this will answer Geo's question.
NRA-Backed Group Scams Chicago Taxpayers Into Buying Ammo, Bolt-Action Rifles For Children
Late last month, Guns Save Life, a pro-gun group that organizes summer shooting camps for children, succeeded in scamming Chicago taxpayers out of more than $6,000 to fund the purchase of ammunition and guns they then handed out to children as young as nine years old.

Obama/Biden 2012
www.tnr.com/blog/plank/106730/ryan-most-dishonest-convention-speech-five-lies-gm-medicare-deficit-medicaid
1) About the GM plant in Janesville.
Ryan's home district includes a shuttered General Motors plant. Here's what happened, according to Ryan:
It's true: The plant shut down. But it shut down in 2008—before Obama became president.
By the way, nobody questions that, if not for the Obama Administration's decision to rescue Chrysler and GM, the domestic auto industry would have crumbled. Credible estimates suggested that the rescue saved more than a million jobs. Unemployment in Michigan and Ohio, the two states with the most auto jobs, have declined precipitously.
2) About Medicare.
Ryan attacked Obama for "raiding" Medicare. Again, Ryan has no standing whatsoever to make this attack, because his own budget called for taking the same amount of money from Medicare. Twice. The only difference is that Ryan's budget used those savings to finance Ryan's priorities, which include a massive tax cut that benefits the wealthy disproportionately.
It's true that Romney has pledged to put that money back into Medicare and Ryan now says he would do the same. But the claim is totally implausible given Romney's promise to cap non-defense spending at 16 percent of gross domestic product.
By the way, Obamacare's cut to Medicare was a reduction in what the plan pays hospitals and insurance companies. And the hospitals said they could live with those cuts, because Obamacare was simultaneously giving more people health insurance, alleviating the financial burden of charity care.
What Obamacare did not do is take away benefits. On the contrary, it added benefits, by offering free preventative care and new prescription drug coverage. By repealing Obamacare, Romney and Ryan would take away those benefits—and, by the way, add to Medicare's financial troubles because the program would be back to paying hospitals and insurers the higher rates.
3) About the credit rating downgrade.
Ryan blamed the downgrading of American debt on Obama. But it was the possibility that America would default on its debts that led to the downgrade. And why did that possibility exist? Because Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling, playing chicken not just with the nations' credit rating but the whole economy, unless Obama would cave into their budget demands.
4) About the deficit.
Ryan said "President Obama has added more debt than any other president before him" and proclaimed "We need to stop spending money we don't have." In fact, this decade's big deficits are primarily a product of Bush-era tax cuts and wars. (See graph.) And you know who voted for them? Paul Ryan.
5) About protecting the weak.
Here's Ryan on the obligations to help those who can't help themselves:
The rhetoric is stirring—and positively galling. Analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities shows that 62 percent of the cuts in Ryan budget would come from programs that serve low-income people. And that's assuming he keeps the Obamacare Medicare cuts. If he's serious about putting that money back into Medicare, the cuts to these programs would have to be even bigger.
Among the cuts Ryan specified was a massive reduction in Medicaid spending. According to a report by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Urban Institute, between 14 and 27 million people would lose health insurance from these cuts. That's above and beyond the 15 million or so who are supposed to get Medicaid coverage from the Affordable Care Act but wouldn't because Romney and Ryan have pledged to repeal the law.
I realize conservatives think that transforming Medicaid into a block grant, so that states have more control over how to spend the money, can make the program more efficient. But Medicaid already costs far less than any other insurance program in America. And even to the extent states can find some new efficiencies, the idea that they can find enough to offset such a draconian funding cut is just not credible.

Bev said -- "The only thing the GOP has built in the past 50 years is a Mountain of Lies, Debt & Deception. "
So I did some research and beginning in 1961 through the end of the current Congress and President term here are the stats on where federal government control resided:
US Senate -- In the timeframe mentioned above there was a Democrat Majority for 32 years, a Republican Majority for 16 years and 4 years with a 50 / 50 split (one goes to the Republicans because the VP breaks ties; one goes to the Democrats as the two independents caucus with the Democrats).
US House -- In the timeframe mentioned above there was a Democrat Majority for 38 years and a Republican majority for 14 years.
President -- A Democrat was President for 24 years and a Republican was President for 28 years.
So, blaming the Republicans is kinda weak. If anything with the Congress significantly controlled by the Democrats for the majority of the time it could well be argued that they indeed are the cause of many of today's problems.
The reality is there is shared responsibility and for you to blame just the Republicans is simply ignorant.
E. Deboo
it's not but going to get the economy on track buit it will reveal:
a) why Romney has over $20 million in his IRA account
b) whether he was the CEO of Bain, and if he was, he commited a felony
c) whether Romney is heavily tax as he claims rich people are
same as above
you have no idea what Romney paid. You only know what Romney told you so please don't state it as a fact. And one year is useless because anyone can fake 1 year.
One of Romney's HUGE claims is that the rich are OVERTAXED and I want him to prove it.
NO!!! So is that all you have to whine about?
No, I have plenty to whine about Romney but that was just a jab at your ZERO FACT SUPPORTED claim that: they are unemployed so have so much more time to waste than those of us that pay for their govt benefit checks. As I stated - you know as much about Bev's/Feisty's anything as you do about Romney's tax returns. Please prove me otherwise.

you apparently don't care about vaginas but at least 50% of the population in this country has one and cares about one.
Brian - why so much anger against vaginas?
I see Huckabee is back in the fat-a$$ club again. These twinkies either don't have the discipline to lose the weight (Christie) or can't keep the weight off (Huckabee, Rush Limpalls, etc) And yet many of you seem to think they have the discipline needed to run the country????????
I've really been enjoying watching those in the media this week- Their reactions to speeches, their endoresements and pans, and their clearly exposing their positions. Everyone from Chris Matthews to John Stewart have been amusing to watch and for that I appreciate them. It helps clarify my personal position to take in as many angles on the various networks and distill the issues to their essences.
Here's how I'd play the RNC today- 2 speakers before Mitt Romney I'd put in the most anti-President Obama speaker possible to really charge up the crowd of what's wrong today. I'd load up that speech with the President's actions and their results, position being similar to some of what we've heard this week- No experience, just words, questionable methods and actions, no positive results. Load up the address with examples of Obama's actions (IE- Went the czar and visiting friend route of policy making and didn't meet with the appointed cabinet officials and Congressional committees: Use White House visit records to show the contrast from traditional roles of the President and his administration. Then show the decisions made and whom benefited from them.) If you've seen one thing this week it's the media going after "mean" comments- so the speaker would use as many simple, cross references as possible to strike the President.
The last speaker prior to Mitt Romney would be someone like Marco Rubio- speaking about the value of immigrants and why the US is exceptional, noting the desire for immigrants to come here and be independant, and the need for a government to let people live for themselves.
Jim in Houston-1509351
Kerry showed his money to everyone so there was nothing to complain about. Kerry also showed his wife's taxes even though he didn't have to. So you are comparing apples to Cayman Island bank accounts....
Earlier David Walker said this: By the time President Obama took office we were in a total free fall. We weren't hurtling toward a recession, we were heading full speed into an outright depression.
And what do we learn? This is an opportunity for Republicans to destroy America.
David I realize that you have your opinions and there's this freedom of speech thing hanging around, but honestly, do you have to go over the top? It's only republicans fault in your world. Do you ever open the door to let fresh air in? Do you ever stop, consider, think and look objectively at things, or are you simply blinded by your partisanship?
I truly understand that liberals live on the edge of hate for anything conservative. For some reason liberals have decided that any conservative idea is poison to them. What is it, do you have a daddy complex? Were you abused as a child? I know it has to be something that drives this disdain but the specifics of most liberal hatred towards conservatives is a mystery to me.
If you are under the illusion that democrats didn't have a hand in our current economic condition it might be time for you and other liberals to step back, take a look at reality, look at the history and actually find out who the players were in the overall demise of our economy. Stop denying that democrats were major players in our jobless rate, Immense additions to our national debt and creating deficits as large as the eye can see. STOP DENYING IT!!! and stop blaming the other party when your party is just as culpable. You only look like an idiot when your diatribe is completely one sided.
DIVERSITY IN THE GOP - you may as well do what they do in South Park and just call the minority Republicans "token." ONE BLACK MAN (and they had to borrow him from the Democrats) and ONE black woman gave a speech. One Hispanic woman and tonight their ONE Hispanic man will nominate their old white guy.
There is no diversity in the GOP. They are going to lose their base as the country becomes more and more NOT WHITE. As much as the GOP will try to prevent minorities from voting, eventually the GOP will not be able to stop them all. The GOP will find that their voter suppression efforts will come to bite them in the next few elections when all the old white people won't be able to get the proper ID's and the Democrats ramp up efforts to make sure their supporters can vote.

That was Democrat President Bill Clinton's economic team.
Republicans don't have anyone that even majored in Economics in college, nor would Republicans dare to have Nobel Prize Winning Economists, or even any PhDs in Economics because they don't want anybody around who can count while they are in the process of stealing all the money they can get their hands on.
Republicans love it just fine having folks around them who can't count at all, that way, all Republicans are stay very happy, while the American Taxpayers get the shaft.

This stuff is just great:
After digesting all those barrels of unslung chitlins ( first read calls it "red meat) provided by Ryan and Huckabee last night, the attendee's and Mittens Himself should be in fine fettle today. What distortions and lies might that tax evading thief be weaving to present tonight? Hell!, one as unaccomplished to basic coherency as Romney (he couldn't fold a paper poke without tearing it) has to be sweating some. I expect He will talk about God, guns, war, family, lower tax rates, the prudence of good health insurance provided by insurance carriers, deregulation of banks, business and industry, along with brief (ahem) mention of ladies vagina's. He'll mix all this in with the sorriness of the President, and His failure to address these things, which he will claim, has allowed the President and the democrats to firmly establish their socialist agenda. Um, ah, pardon me while I spit. ............... There! Aye gwad!, just mocking republican bullsh^t puts a bad taste in my mouth. Once the tax evading son-of-a-bitch finishes spewing, the crowd of suck ups will feign ecstasy, with much pained yelling and screaming, leave the place, and likely go out somewhere in Tampa to get drunk, while scouting for a sex partner. I, for one, will be happy to see this spectacle over. I'll bet Tampa will too.

So to you its more important to know what Romney paid in taxes as opposed how he plans to get millions back to work....
You admit knowing what he paid in taxes is not going to fix ANYTHING...any you know what...ALL I care about is that we get this economy back on track.....why, one, because I am a small business owner and two, because I'm a new father...I want to see the business grow so we can employee more people...I want to see the economy grow so the future outlook for ALL of our kids is better...
So lets not talk about how we are going to get there or how Obama's economic policies just might not be working out....lets worry about something that has no effect on the lives of millions.
If knowing Romney's taxes puts Millions back to work, then I'm all for it...but its NOT so lets move on and talk about how to FIX the REAL ISSUES.
What you say is definitely true, HOWEVER...what appears to be missing in your informative blog is; just who does the government get it's money to fund the SBA and all of the helpful "GOVERNMENT FUNDED" administrations/departments/etc??? Does it perhaps come from the citizens themselves and the businesses themselves, through the taxes they pay and the interest they pay on the loans they receive??

One thing Dems do not understand is that buisness and middle to upper class tax payers will only take so much. So what you have now is city flight and no tax base, just brilliant! So now you have created a hell hole by Democratic design, Kids killing kids, no leadership, no hope, just death, brought to you by the Democrats!
Yeah, exactly how he aims to do that outside of historically failed policies that his current proposals encompass?
geo-1957883,
so your idea is to take away from the poor struggling minorities any benefits they may receive and give that to the richest in our society??? And this is supposed to be good how??? Oh, that RomneyHood!!!
billybob,
why don't you read about how:
Why the economy fares much better under Democrats
http://www.csmonitor.com/Commentary/Opinion/2008/1021/p09s01-coop.html
It's a Christian Science Monitor article so you cannot accuse me of liberal sources.
Oh and Bayllie....
Go ahead and Google Feisty or Bev....there is plenty on the internet about them and their - http://libsrus.newsvine.com/ - Newsvine group....it actually quite funny whats out there.
Google me as well...I have nothing to hide. I am proud of the business my friend and business partner started in 2002. We now employee 17 people and look forward to the time when someone is at the helm that can turn this economy back around. One more thing.....our small business Medical Insurance has gone up 17%, 12% and 15% in the past 3 years as a result of Obamacare. The amount of these ridiculously huge increases is enough to pay for 2 employees....factor that increase across all small business's and its not wonder hiring has stalled out.
We pay for 100% of our employees health care and because of the increases have had to consider having the employees pay for some as the cost is simply getting out of hand.\
But you dont want to hear real facts from a small business owner describing the real effects of Obama's policies. He is killing job creation. Ask Bev and Feisty...they are still unemployed 4 years later...how those Obama policies working out for them????
Wow! Sorry meetings kept me away this morning. Looks like you guys have been having a love fest!
To the far righters who are shouting about what a great speech Ryan gave - well, now you've totally identified yourselves for what you are since Ryan lied throughout the speech. In fact, his speech was so filled with lies that people stopped counting. But, here are just a few:
From Slate - yes Slate because actually facts are facts!
And these were only SOME of the many lies he told. But, Satan is dancing in glee telling everyone "see, I told you he was one of us!"
The real test for Romney, can his lies top Ryans? Probably - and when he gets caught at them, he'll just change his position!
HaggisBingo - I LOVE when you do that!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
haggisbingo - Maybe thier poor and strugling because they vote for bad schools, bad jobs, bad teachers, bad work ethics, bad politicians in other words DEMOCRATS!
Geo,
Really? Because I thought it was more due to generational, systemic racism and poverty that's cyclical.
Your post, is at best, patronizing to an entire race of people. It wreaks of generalizations and your belief that YOU know more about what people need, then the people who are actually living the experience.
E. Deboo
I never said that but nice try.
What I did say is that I do feel it is important to know who Romney is because he is somewhere between a lying hypocrite or a potential felon.
Now if he is a lying hypocrite who claimes he's overtaxed while paying zero or close to zero in taxes , he's just that - a lying hypocrite.
If he lied about his CEO tenure and/or has illegal IRA contributions - he is a potential felon, and thus ineligible to run for POTUS.
So yes, I think it is important to see what Romney is hiding....
I
This was today's WTF moment for me. You do realize that the more the left comes up with ludicrous and convoluted racist accusations, the more real examples will simply be ignored?
Sahrah - Your right the DEMOCRATS got them right were they want them!
E. Deboo
and here is proof that you are full of $hit. Here are the numbers:
1. ObamaCare is not fully implemented and it won't be for years.
2. The law, the bulk of which has yet to be implemented, has caused only about a 1 to 3% increase in premiums
3. Family coverage in 2000 was on avg $5791. Family coverage in 2009 (pre ObamaCare) was on avg $13,375.
So explain to me why did premiums more than doubled in 10 years if it's ObamaCare's fault, huh?
Please cite the policies that Obama passed that affect YOU because people like you use this argument but cannot ever come up with any solid evidence.
if it's about JOB!JOB!JOBS!, tell me, why did the Republicans block bills like:
S. 3364 (Bring Jobs Home Act ) A bill to provide an incentive for businesses to bring jobs back to America.
First of all, you assume because you read something on the net that it's true? You get your physicals at WebMD as well? hahahahaha
Thanks for the link - I will definitely check it out
I don't care who you are and I don't care what you tell me because you could tell me you're Prince Charles so save your little sob story for the RNC type speech: "I'm sepcial because my daddy was an immigrant blah blah blah..."
Geo,
You do realize that your simply saying it's the Dems fault, doesn't actually make it so. I wish I could be that naive, as to blame all of societies injustices on a single political party.
Jim in Houston: have you ever looked at your money.... I know Mitt deals in Swiss Francs and Cayman Island Dollars.
The Money I have is actually from the Treasury of the United States of America, issued by the Federal Reserve for the US Treasury.
Since taxes are levied by representatives of the people, a tax is not confiscation. In fact, you could very well say that the people are giving the money to themselves, since our government is supposed to be "of the people, by the people and for the people."
Unfortunately, the Republicans have warped that ideal with their tacit statement "Corporations are people too, my friend."
Republicans should really not attempt to get into a battle of wits, they will lose every time since they go into battle completely unarmed. I can't wait for the debates when Witless Romney has to actually answer questions from a reporter, instead of talking points from an entertainment host.
ZOMBIES for Romney/Ryan 2012 !!!
Distortions - has anyone looked up the definition of that word in the dictionary lately? The accusations fly around here like birds heading south for the winter. The incredible fact is, most people writing the distortions don't even give a whit that they distort facts and make up things based on their insignificant opinions. The driving force behind most posters is... I'm going to say it whether it's true or not just because I feel it. There is no honesty, no integrity or any sense of right or wrong... it's my right to say what I want, no matter what.
That's the way it's become around here at First Read. The amount of bullsh!t flowing could fill a stadium. Just because we all have a basic ideology we, as individuals, adhere to, creates an atmosphere of finger pointing, one up-man-ship and bravado insurmountable by the fact that we feel the need to slam the opponent.
The true fact, and it's undeniable, is we don't know who will win the election at this point in time. It's completely fruitless to try to second guess a future date. Polls don't count for anything because how many times have polls been wrong? Our feelings mean absolutely nothing. All we have is a guess.
All the amount of slamming the opponent does nothing but make the slammer feel good. In many circumstances facts count for nothing because there's always counter facts that trump facts.
The only real truth is the record of the individual politician. What has he, or what hasn't he done to promote himself. (I'm writing in the masculine). Has he lived up to the standards he's set for his office? Has he the experience to handle the job? Has he proved he's worthy by his words and deeds? Has what he's done promoted the country and built up the citizens?
There are many divisions when it comes to both candidates. The only thing you can honestly ask yourself... who is the better of the two? If you feel Obama is the one, you'd better take a hard look at what he stands for. If it's Romney, you'd better be sure that picking him is the best you can do.
Do NOT let a political party decide for you. Look at the man.
Sarah - Listen to the DNC convention, as I'm sure you will, but listen with an open mind! Listen how they will take care of everybody, no self-relience, listen how government is a cure all. Listen to them play the race card to fire up thier base, Listen to them call for more government and not tell you how were going to pay for it. Listen for ideas that will help America get working again. And make sure you listen when they talk about abortion instead of the economy, because the last thing they want to talk about is the economy! And listen when they say Obama created 4 million jobs. but what they won't say is that we lost 5 million jobs under Obama, and there 1 million less women working under Obama. Talk about a war on women!
geo - your post is total lies and you know it.
You have no facts - obviously more Americans were killed in Iraq than Chicago - your stupidity is showing.
People are not flocking from the city - far from it. Our city is growing. Do we have problems - you better believe it. Just like every big city we are experiencing gang problems and it will take time to fix them.
But, this is not a Democratic or Republican problem - it's a national problem that will only work when we stop denigrating the poor and refusing to help give them adequate educational opportunities so they can thrive.
Go back under your rock because you spout nothing but radical right wing hypocrisy - no resolutions just hate and ignorance - the badge of the GOP!
Obama/Biden 2012
A Kodak Moment ... for Mitt?
Here is Barack Obama's Main Accomplishments
Barack Obama's Main Accomplishment:
Signed the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) Bill into Law allowing any US citizen to Be Detained WITHOUT trial (A federal Court Blocked it in May because it Violates the Constitution, but Obama is not trying to get it UNBLOCKED!). (Source: )
He has Killed HUNDREDS of Innocent people (Including 3 American Citizens) in Pakistan and Yemen with Drone Strikes (He’s Ordered even more drone strikes than Bush!).
The rate of National Debt under George Bush was Around $60 Billion a Month. Under Obama, it’s been $190 Billion a Month, so that would be Nearly $600 Per US Citizen (Thanks Obama!)
Obama Care: Page 22. MANDATES, The Government will Audit Book of ALL Employers who Self Insure. Page 50, Section 152, Health Care WILL be Provided to ALL Non US Citizens, Illegal or otherwise. Page 126, Lines 22-25, Employers Must Pay for Their Part time Employees Health Care AND Their Families. Page 127, Lines 1-16, The Government WILL Tell you How much Money you can Make.
Obama has By-passed Congress to Enable the DREAM Act (Unconstitutional to By-Pass Congress, and the Illegals he allowed to become Legal Citizens has Committed over 19 Murders and Over 142 Sex crimes).
Obama Claims he Campaigned in 57 States (Maybe he wasn’t Born in this Country?).
Willard speaks to his RATS tonight...follow me to the bank I'm your leader....oooops....I meant White House not bank.
Seeking sainity, I'll go back a few years due to numbers being so low in Iraq for US deaths. I do not have any data for Iraqi citizen deaths however, when you look at a war zone and the city of Chicago in the year 2008. A war zone was slightly safer for a person from the US. 508 was the death toll for murder in Chi town in 08. 314 was the death toll for our soldiers in Iraq that year. 322 if you want all coalition deaths. Please check facts before spouting your mouth. Both numbers are too many.
Carry on with the mindless rants of politial partican of who's guy is lying more than the other. They are all lying and when ya get that point you'll be better off. It's not about taxes, college transcripts, birth certificates. It's about what they can do for the country, or to some who is the lesser evil. Unfortuantely I have to look on a politican as the latter cause to me they are all evil, just some are less evil then others, just weed through each of their lies to figure out what the truth is.
Dems, reps back to the lying game.
sources for information
Palin's speech was memorable? What did that stupid bitch say besides, "Lipstick?"
Fact checkers already out on Ryan's speech - 7 false claims; 3 misleading claims; and 2 the truthful claims.
Even someone from Fox News slammed his speech - makes you wonder if they will still have a job tomorrow.
Really? Read http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/#ixzz251UfID1L, then tell us it was a "home run". Even Fox News -- Fox News -- said it was "deceiving", and also said "Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many".
If Fox News said negative things about it, what does that say about Paul Ryan? Makes you wonder...how much B.S. is Mitt Romney going to shovel tonight?
Here is four things Romney will do when he becomes POTUS..
W
O
R
K
He won't be doing much Beer brewing, golfing, pick up B-ball games with Pro B-ball players or making dumb arse excuses for why he claims he can't W O R K.
Bayllie----
Wow...that's a reach...no where was I saying I was special and so what if my father was an immigrant....I DAMN proud of that and what he's accomplished...and if you didn't care who I am why even take the time to check me/us out???
At least my father pays taxes and contributes to society...At least he entered this country legally and became a legal citizen and is not a drain on society like you and your liberal buddies that want to punish hard work and just collect assistance checks from the govt.
By the way...if I'm not suppose to believe everything that's on the net, that includes the "news site" you are getting your facts from regarding heath insurance premium increases from Obamacare. Our increases are a direct result of Obamacare. PERIOD. FACT. STRAIGHT FROM ANTHEM.
You want to see the actually increase sheets from Anthem...email me and I will gladly send them to you. You can see the FACTS and read the entire Anthem increases for the past 3 years. The new Heath Care Act is DIRECTLY responsible for the increases and NOT just 1 to 3%. I have no reason to make up these facts...if I could scan and upload the pages I would...so if you really want to see the facts email me at my newsvine page and I will gladly respond with the documents so you can see with your OWN eyes that the policies this president put in place had directly hurt small business owners. Its hurting job creation whether you want to believe it or not. The increases are enough for 2 full time new hires...think about that again times the millions of small business's in this country...that's quite a lot of jobs that are no longer or will never be.....
E. Deboo... You can't use things like facts, simple math or history to deal with these clowns. Forget it. They just stick their fingers in their ears and yell Bush's fault over and over.
Here is a basic example: Ryan pointed out that his friends at a GM plant in his state were told by Obama if he was elected president THEIR plant would be open for another 100 years. A simple statement and 100% fact.
But because Schultz and Maddow say that was a lie the plant closed in 2008. So now Ryan lied about what Obama did say. So all these kool aid drinkers run with it don't even know that the plant was making trucks clear into the tail of 2009 before it actually stopped production.
But they seem to like the fact they can blame Bush for the one of hundreds of unkept promises that came out of Obamas big fat mouth.
It's red, it's sweet, it comes in a paper cup and it will end you. Drink up Kool Aid fans!
I've gotta' argue with the folks that think Willard knows anything about WORK.
Just take a look at this nitwit's calendar.
http://mittromneycentral.com/resources/calendar/
Don't forget that right after he nominated Ryan,...he cancelled a campaign appearance in Florida claiming EXHAUSTION.
Puhlease. During the Dem convention in 2008 - then Candidate Obama took a train and campaigned out the whole way. R$mney only wishes he had Obama's stamina and work ethic.
Just look at August.
Here's President Obama's calendar.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/schedule/complete/2012-W34
Again,...give me a break!
On February 13, 2008, Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama stated, "This can be America’s future. I know that General Motors received some bad news yesterday, and I know how hard your Governor has fought to keep jobs in this plant. But I also know how much progress you’ve made – how many hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles you’re churning out. And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years. The question is not whether a clean energy economy is in our future, it’s where it will thrive. I want it to thrive right here in the United States of America; right here in Wisconsin; and that’s the future I’ll fight for as your President."
Assembly work continued at the Janesville Assembly until April 2009, completing the GM/Isuzu light truck
But he gave $500,000,000.00 to Fisker to build cars in Finland... Nice one Mr. Obama, you did America proud.
I'm sure Mutt Head's speech tonight will be a giant snooze fest. The man is a robot. Programmed each week by a different member of the Republican Party of nasty. Ethic. The man has no ethic.
Omfg!! All you crazy lefty nutjobs should take a step back and take a good hard look at yourselves. I hate Obama and very much dislike Romney but my gosh people, can you be any more hypocritical?!?! Obama tells more lies than ANY presidential candidate I have EVER heard speak, and that’s quite a lot! You know how you can tell when Obama is lying????? Whenever his lips are moving! Seriously though, the man is a liar and you all love him for it, that's messed up! Mitt may be a snake, I won't deny that, but if Mitt is a snake then Obama is a rattle-snake disguised as a million dollar bill, at least we know what we're getting with Mitt. Obama will try to hand the sovereignty of America over to the UN and invite them into our country to take away our guns and the rest of our rights; it's already a proven part of his plan (Agenda 21). If that is allowed to happen America will experience her next Civil War. American blood from our own brothers and sister will spill across the land, stain the ground we walk on and turn the rivers red. Our Majestic Purple Mountains and Amber Waves of Grain will be flattened and torched with a looming haze of black smoke. America will turn into a living hell and we will all be forced from our homes; this is why I am voting for Romney, even though I know it will do no good because there are too many stupid people in this country that can't get past their own self-righteousness. Some of you people, mostly the far-lefty nutjobs, need to get off your lazy asses and start taking responsibility for your own misfortunes. Anything wrong in your life is only through your own fault so why don't you do something about it!? It's real easy to pass the blame off on someone else and point your fingers at everyone but yourself but it takes a real "man" to accept responsibility for what your life is lacking. If you don't like your life then CHANGE IT!! I don't have much money, a small home, and a decent office job that provides enough for me to get by; I love my life and everything about it because I surround myself with people who care dearly about me and whom I care dearly for myself; I have no complaints. Some people get lucky and make it big and get rich fast without ever having to lift a finger and some work damn hard and earn their riches; I work hard and just get by and that’s fine with me. I understand that life isn't fair but does pissing and moaning and whining and crying about how that guy is rich and I'm not so he should have to give me half his money get me anywhere at all?? NO!! It doesn't. Life isn't fair and that's just how it; life always presents you with just two options: either you can...or you can't. For example: either you CAN accept that life isn't fair, get over it, move past it, and be happy...or you CAN'T. Another example: either you CAN change your own life if you're not happy with it...or you CAN'T. A very close friend of mine who used to be a far lefty was complaining to me one day about all that he doesn't have and how his life is so difficult and he told me he just wished he had a normal life; this is what I told him: "There is no normal life, there's just life, so get on with it!" That must have stuck him deeply because he is now a happily married man with four gorgeous children living in a million dollar house on a hundred acre wood plot of land in the countryside that is all completely paid off and in his name. Am I jealous of him that he has more than I do? NO. Do I think that he should have to give me half of his stuff? OF COURSE NOT, that absolutely absurd! He worked his ass off for it and earned it and he deserves all that he has and deserves to be able to leave it to his children when he dies because that is what he worked so hard to do; not to make HIS life easier, but to make a better life for his children. Anyone can do anything, achieve anything, it just takes some faith in yourself and a lot of perseverance. I dare you to try it!
Clara... It's awesome you posted Obama's entire schedual for last week. The only "WORK" he did was a 45 minute meeting with teachers on Wed... And you know that wasn't "Teachers" it was "Teacher Union's" so you just proved my point. Obama doesn't WORK he flapps his lips. And the WORK is supposed to be for us... Afterall we pay his lazy ass $35,000.00 a month to WORK for us.
By the way... That's $35,000.00 a month FOREVER. He should have been busting his ass for us this whole 4 years. he's just like the rest of them lazy bums.
The same ol leftys spewing the same ol lies and stroking each other while waiting for the mailman to bring the check from obama. This is ALL the proof needed when considering the job the community organ-grinder that's keeping the seat warm for Romney.
Any president that gets a zero vote (0 - 97 *2012) on a budget proposal from his own senate and a zero vote (0 - 414 *) endorsement from the house for 2013 budget should be a major red flag to any educated human being!!
http://startthinkingright.wordpress.com/2012/04/04/obama-after-his-2012-budget-was-voted-down-97-0-and-his-2013-budget-was-voted-down-414-0-by-every-democrat-has-chutzpah-to-demonize-gop-budget-as-radical/
Romney/Ryan 2012 we can change it, for the better!!
Seeking Insanity - What I did was ask a question. DUMBASS! As norm73 points out I would be RIGHT no pun intended! How is the Chicago teachers union doing? At $71,000 for a piss poor education there going on strike looking for a 19% raise. Well deserved right? Where does CPS rank in graduation? Are they over 50%?
Expect Romney's speech to be well rehearsed (and he will be using a teleprompter) but I don't think you can change his annoying mannerisms. Expect him to walk out on stage taking his usual baby steps. He always points at a number of people in the audience and laughs. A guy on MSNBC tonight also pointed out that he makes eye contact with the crowd like a lawn sprinkler - face front, face a little to the left, face a little more to the left, back to center, face right, face a little more to right, back to center. Kind of like his positions on the issues over the years. I expect to be annoyed.
I'll bet you $10,000 that Romney shows up at his speech tonight with 6 bankers boxes of his tax returns. :-)
ducking a few throwing stars, several knives, and barrage of bullets to post here this evening....
All no matter which party affiliation might take a gander at this article:
http://tinyurl.com/98dqu2y
There are many here that don't understand what is really happening in this country. This happens to speak to one candidate but the real import is that something like this can go on and the government not only allows it, but sanctions it.
No matter what your political affiliation this should scare you as a citizen of the United States
bayllie
I know, and the government spends it on roads, bridges, schools, police, firefighters, courts, and all the other EVIL things we don't need.
and let's not forget 528M - Solyndra; 1.6B - Bright Source; 279M - A123 Solar; 527M Evergreen Solar (all lost money - research it) and I can go on and on. Yeah, roads, bridges, schools, .... if only
Some people lie without regard to facts. Rightwingwacko is one of them.
Hope you choke on your hateoraid there, sparky.
I watched the morning news today, on another station, and heard a journalist say it was forgiveable Ryan's speech contained ...how do I put this?...lies? because politicians always bend the facts in their rhetoric.
I think it's safe to say, modern TV journalism is only good for reporting on the aftermath of shootings and storms- I admit to getting a sadistic pleasure out of watching reporters getting pelted by wind and rain - but as for standing up for truth in politics...not so much.
Unfortunately Amy, TV journalists will only report what their sponsors will permit. Truth eludes them. I laughed out loud about your "sadistic pleasure." Righteous! I was watching Cuck Todd this morning with Romney's advisor. He needs to get a lot more aggressive when faced with blatant lies like this guy was spewing like an AK-47.
When Obama gets ask questions about his favorite color or what super power he would most like to have, it is painfully obvious no journalist is even allowed to ask him a relevant question. When Obama changes his mind he is evolving and not flip flopping or pandering. When Obama fails to deliver on his promises he always blames someone else. No president have ever been given the slack or been coddled by the press like Obama. Every Obama supporter has one trump card to play when there is anything they do not like that is being said about the president, racism. How convenient for an entire party to ignore reality, and hail the most unqualified president to ever sit in the Oval Office, which will soon be owned and operated by the IMF if Obama gets his way.
If you do the math at politifact.com, Ryan is only telling the truth 27% of the time.
Republicans = The party of lies.
Americans want an honest debate, the only way Republicans can win is to lie.
Here is the fact check on Ryan's speech:
http://factcheck.org/2012/08/ryans-vp-spin/
DON'T FORGET - TONIGHT Newt and Callista will be featured speakers at The GOP Convention! (Thursday between 7 and 8 PM) Their speech is listed on the GOP Agenda as follows:
Remarks by former House Speaker and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and wife Callista Gingrich
Kinda like the Sonny and Cher of the GOP ----- GET READY FOR IT ----- BE PREPARED
It's less than 30 minutes, available online, and was made by the Newt Gingrich SuperPac - Winning Our Future.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/01/12/anti-romney_movie_by_pro-gingrich_pac_when_mitt_romney_came_to_town.html
Bruce, I watched that video and was VERY impressed. It shows exactly what kind of "vulture capitalist" Mitt Robme really is! The only problem with Republican zombies is they don't give a hoot, they've elected so many crooks in the past, they think being a politician and being a crook go hand-in-hand.
Thanks for posting the link!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Rick - clearly you watch different interviews than most of us. My guess is they take place in your mind. Our President has had the hard questions asked of him at every interview and he never fails to answer them.
Tell the truth - you're really Paul Ryan, aren't you? He showed last night he is totally adept and at ease lying the way you just did!

"and how they are different from the past Republican administration". This is the one REAL issue, that will turn me away from Romney. There has to be a different path for the future. We can't return to the failed policies of 2000-2008!
Spot On Feisty!! There is no way Romney can convince the voting public his brand of fascism will be good for the country.
HaggisBingo - Totally LOVE IT!!!!!
nobozospeak - ooooooh, jealous little boy! Too bad you're not that clever and have to follow around the flip flop as your idol!
Obama/Biden 2012
I wonder is Mr. Ryan will spend part of his day at confession. With all of the lies he told last night, he should be in the church for hours.
No- there's no media bias at all with NBC News... pathetic!
nobozospeak - when you need to call our President silly, childish, elementary school names, it shows what I always find true - no matter how hard I seek there is no sanity to be found in the radical GOP.
Clearly Haggisbingo is a clever individual who can do things with a computer you WISH you could do!
Obama/Biden 2012
Backhouse: For what it's worth, I have reported you to Newsvine for double posting. You didn't get your first post on ahead of Feisty and when you discovered that she beat you and yours ended up at # 1.1 you immediately went to #2 to make sure your drivel got more exposure since Feisty gets collasped more times than anyone. You guys are so manic and desperate to spew your hate and propaganda you'll stoop to the gutter to get it done. Newsvine is your garbage can.
Uh Oh Backhouse!
Better watch your back now... the lost-boy has squealed on you! lol
OH NOES!!! A double post!
Did you report TopDrum while you were busy tattling, Mr. FR monitor?
He's pasted the same rant over 50 times the last two day... or doesn't that count in your warped little world?
Yet, you keep coming back for more!
Says more about you than any of us...
LMAO@U loser!
Get a LIFE!
Is this all the left has? Is this Obama's vision for the future of our nation, more obfuscation, distraction, distortion and character assassination? the left feels power and opportunity slipping through their fingers like poop through a donkey.
Mitt Romney tells us he’s going to cut taxes, increase military spending and cut the deficit. Well Mitt, Ronald Reagan tried that and the debt exploded so much he increased taxes. And it spite of those tax increases he still added more to the national debt that all other presidents before him combined.
In 2001, George W. Bush inherited a surplus. He cut taxes twice; increased military spending and the largest surplus in the history of the nation soon disappeared and was transformed into the largest deficit in the history of the nation. As we all know, by the time Bush left office in 2009 we had the worst economy since the depression.
So Mr. Romney, will you please explain to the nation exactly how your plan of cutting taxes, increasing military spend and cutting the deficit will work this time around?
VP candidate Paul Ryan is portrayed as a deficit hawk. Yet during the Bush administration he never found a spending bill he didn't like. Representative Ryan was perfectly willing to put two wars on the credit card, a prescription drug plan on the credit card, a massive farm bill on the credit card and one earmark after another on the credit card.
So Mr. Ryan, I have two questions for you. When did this conversion to deficit hawk take place and why should we believe this is a true conversion?
I really get a kick out of the most liberal media outlet telling us "what Mitt must do", as if they really care about telling us what Mitt must do....
Hey! That's your job, Libbies.
RFO says..
This is an idiotic comment. One guy, who happens to be mormon, makes a basis claim about Romney's taxes and that means all mormons know about each others personal finances. The lack of intellect of some people like RFO really baffles my mind. This newsvine has turned into a contest for who can make the dumbest comment.
Hey everybody, did you see Feisty's swear laden attack on Mia Love in her comments about Mia's convention floor interview? Feisty, once again, proving that liberals like her only use race baiting to keep minorities from running out of the Dem party. But let one of those minorities express an opinion counter to the paternalistic views of Feisty and Mr. Obama and the knives come out. Please notice Feisty's use of the words "bimbo" and "bitch"and "spawn" to describe Mia Love. What do you think would happen if a conservative used those words to describe Feisty?
FEISTY, you have now been exposed as a first class bigot, race baiter and fear monger. CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WEAR IT WELL!
Do you think President Obama wants to be associated with this?
She should be permanently suspend due to her many hate laden post and repeated violations of the Newsvine Code/Rules. How about it MSNBC, how long are you going to allow this to happen? You wouldn't allow a conservative to continue doing what Feisty does almost daily.
Dan...that is like RFO believes at all Democrats have the morals of John Edwards, Sandra Flute, Blago, and Bubba. Not true.
I have just been scrolling down the thread. It is the same pathetic narrow minded people here day after day and week after week with the same uniformed not intelligent, dribble with the same gutter snipe vocabulary. Who are these people?
CoCo
Obama's base
Paul Ryan...Boy Blunder....looked right into the camera and lied a number of times...looked right into the faces and lied....Did he not think he would be facts checked?......Mini Moneymate complained that President Obama did nothing with the Simpson Bowles study...while he himself voted against it, then walked away from the same study he WHINED about! HOW CRAZY IS THAT?
RYAN LIES ABOUT president Obama taking away 716 billion from health care.... President Obama received 716 billion from savings of waste and fraud and streamining health care,..... and the president applied all of that money right back into more and longer health care for elderly etc.
Weasel RYAN TAKES THAT SAME MONEY and removes it from health care and applies it to pay for tax breaks for the rich!!! What is wrong with you rt winger? How can you vote for some one that looks right at you and lies? RYAN PLAN STEALS MONEY FROM HEALTH CARE AND GIVES IT TO THE RICH!!!
Vote Obama/Biden 2012....fact check your weasel Ryan every time he looks into the camera and speaks....
Ebeneser: Your point is well taken, but I think you don't know what you're up against. Sometime in the late fall of 2007 or early 2008 a skinny little man with no credentials created a following that snow balled through the course of summer and fall and sucked up a major portion of the populous, millions of whom now are having second thoughts. Those who remain umbilically attached want to drag the nation and the rest of us down and don't even care that it will get around to them as well. What goes around comes around.
On another note, Tom Brokaw has finally completed his deterioration to the Jimmy Carter Feeble Minded Extreme Left club. What is it with retired liberal journalists and shrinking brains. Conkite was another one. Remember the famous One World Order speech? Peter Jennings actually started before he died. Brian Williams is an early inductee as well as several on PBS. Here's what Brokaw said about Eastwood tonight, you have to wade through the puke of Rachel Maddow to get to it. Brokaw's short comment is at the end of her pile of vomit.

LIAR is spelled as RMONEY.
I have a small business which I have run for 38 years. In 2000, I had an employee diagnosed with colon cancer. I had a small group health insurance plan which covered my family and my employees. I not only lost a good employee due to his cancer and subsequent death, but I also suffered through successive annual premium increases of 60%, 40%, 30%, and 30% on my health insurance. I could not switch from this health insurance company because my wife had a preexisting condition that would require surgery when it got bad enough which was over 3 years later.
Bush promised in 2 successive state of the Unions that he would set up a larger health insurance group to protect small groups such as mine from the devastating consequences of a bad experience rating. He never did anything though.
For years I have listened to Republicans say they are the party of small business, but I have yet to experience any help from them.
Obama solved this problem for a small business with a bad experience rating and a preexisting condition in its group health insurance plan with the Affordable Care Act. Thank you Pres. Obama, problem solved.
When this economy went into recession in 2008, the Republicans introduced a small stimulus bill $100/ family. Gas price hikes ate that up. When Obama took office, he proposed a big stimulus for the economy which was losing almost 800,000 jobs per month and was shrinking at a 5% + rate. My sales were going down and I did not know how long I would be able to hang on. The Republicans did nothing, but obstruct.
Pres. Obama. Thank you for your decisive action. His stimulus delayed those 600,000 job cuts among public employees for a year while allowing the private sector to experience a sales growth and job growth that wouldn't have happened otherwise.
Thank you, Pres. Obama. You helped make it possible for my life's work to survive the Great Recession of 2008, 1st half 2009.
Excellent! You made me smile with that one.
Rick - pretty embarrassing to be you today after watching Lying Ryan last night, huh? You clearly see you've got nothing but a liar and a flip flopping liar as candidates so I can see why you're in such a fowl mood today. But, not to worry. It will all be over soon and both your guys can go to their respective homes - wherever those actually are!

@shaak322
Thank you for sharing that story and making a solid case for our President's re-election! Please keep posting.
@shaak322...
That's interesting....I'm a small business owner and our group prices DROPPED under Bush.
As soon as Obamacare passed, they went up 17%, 12% and 15% in the past 3 years as a result. If you dont believe me, email me and I'll send you the Anthem policy increase letters. The amount of these ridiculously huge increases is enough to pay for 2 full time employees....factor that increase across all small business's and its not wonder hiring has stalled out.
We pay for 100% of our employees health care and because of the increases have had to consider having the employees pay for some of the increase as the cost is simply getting out of hand. Why should I work harder and harder only to get punished for doing so?
He is killing job creation. Ask Bev and Feisty...they are still unemployed 4 years later...how those Obama policies working out for them????
E. Deboo - You're such a liar. Our group costs have gone down since Obama has been in office and are slated to go down a little more next year. You're either lying or you don't know how to buy insurance!
You're such a buffoon - do you even work at all? My guess is you're one of the radical right who rag on and on about liberals not working (when we do) and you sit at home on Mom's computer all day!
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney doesn't give speeches. He gives sermons. Isn't that what church is for? The only reason I will watch tonight is to see how badly he lies. Romney says he doesn't care about fact checking. He says he is running his campaign on what he "thinks" the people want to hear. This is a man who calls his checks to the church a tax. Is this what Christians really believe?
shaak322......great story thank you for posting. Join us in helping to diffuse the continuous stream of lies and conspiracy theories regarding our President.
EDaboo, were you in a small group plan with an employee whose medical bills exceeded $100,000 while having a family member with a serious preexisting condition? Bush spoke about this problem in two successive State of the Union addresses. A bad experience rating in a small group health insurance plan costs the insurance company big bucks. They recoup this loss by increasing premiums on that small group. That is why Bush proposed lumping all these small groups into bigger groups. Then the small group actually shares bad experience ratings within that larger group thus spreading this cost around. That is what insurance is supposed to be about spreading risks (costs) over a large enough group so no individual small group gets hammered the way I did. A preexisting condition traps an individual in their insurance plan the way it was before ACA.
These problems went unsolved until Obama addressed it in his Affordable Care Act.
Also, Obamacare (ACA) has not gone into affect yet in any substantial way except for coverage of children to age 26. Perhaps, your premiums are going up because of a bad experience rating.
Another factor in rising health insurance rates for individuals and small groups as well as larger groups is the age of the individual or the average age of the group. As you get older, health insurance will rise in cost as your risk (average cost of your age group) rises. If you have not added any younger workers to your work force recently and based on employment data this is certainly happening, then the average age of your group goes up 1 year every year. This would probably account for about half of your increase with the other half being the persistent increase of health care costs (6 to 10% every year since HMO's reduced costs back in the late 90's)
seekingsanity, what you said about E.DeBoo,we were going to say the same about you.this is the internet, you can say you work and post comments a.m. to p.m but we dont know that hell im a pilot for jet blue.easy to say but dont make it true.
Nobozospeak, I also use a section 179 deduction to buy equipment for my business. I can write off all the capital equipment I buy up to $75000 per year off my gross sales to determine my gross income. Basically, I can add these assets to my business tax free. How's that for a tax break. Do I sound like a business owner yet?
My insurance rates continue to climb as my group gets older, but I'm in a good plan now (Geisinger's which was cited twice by Pres. Obama as a health insurance company that has been able to hold down costs. they do this because they operated a hospital, medical centers, and doctors offices). My increases have been holding steady at just under 10% per year. See 3.20 on why this is.
SeekingSanity....
Wow...liar...seems to be the choice word of the week for you lefty's. Call me whatever you want...here is the email from our agent...wish I could attach the actual pages as well from Anthem...email me and I will gladly share them with you.
@shaak32.....we dont have a bad experience rating...after taking to Anthem, we were told the increases were as a result of the uncertainty in costs the insurance carriers are likely to bear as more of the Act goes into effect. As a result, they have been increasing premiums in an effort to buffer future expenditures. Could be total bs, wouldn't put it past an insurance company....we are shopping around and have quotes due back from Assurant Health.
All I know is the increases the past 3 years have been killing us. I mentioned earlier that we pay for 100% of our employees premiums and not sure how much longer we can keep that up if rates keep increasing like this.
@shaak32....
What state are you in?
I have not heard of Geisinger's....wonder if we have access to that in OH...I will have to check...as for our workforce, most of us are under 35 years of age...we are all a year older but I was again shocked when I saw a 15% increase, especially after the increases the past 2 previous years. If this keeps up in 10 years our company wont be able to afford insurance.
Anyone in Ohio have any good recommendations for quality group hearth care?

E Deboo,
I'm in Pennsylvania. Geisinger's is based in Danville on rt 80. They are expanding, but I think they're only as far west as Altoona. I wish you luck.
Dear Paul Ryan, VP GOP nominee,
I listened to your speech last night.
Thank you for sharing about the loving care your family gave your grandmother as she suffered with Alzheimer disease. Yes, Medicare paid for her doctor’s appointments and any hospital stay.We both know that it is Medicaid that pays for the expenses in a care center if you could longer care for her.In my family, an elderly aunt needed to go into a nursing home because her husband could no longer care for her at home. It was in a little rural town nursing home in MN. After three years her long-term care insurance ran out. They then went thru their life savings. Her husband was at his wits end to continue to pay for her care. But in the final years it was Medicaid that paid for her care.
You forgot to mention that in your budget plan you will take the deepest cuts to Medicaid, the insurance that many peoples grandmothers and aunts need, to spend their last years of their lives with proper care.
You talked about the ACA, and Medicare cuts to insurance companies profits and hospitals in the law. This part of your speech could confuse many people. You and I both know that the benefits were not cut for seniors. You forgot to mention that your budget plan keeps the same reductions to the cost curve of Medicare and goes even farther for future generations. Your goal ends the wonderful Medicare program and turns it into a voucher payment. So some one’s grandmother will one day have to go out to seek her own insurance for her senior years and no guarantees beyond a set dollar amount per year regardless of her health needs.
And finally Paul, I loved the Midwest truism you and I learned from our fathers, “You are either part of the problem or part of the solution”.
Forgive me, but being in the Congress for the last fourteen years, voting yes to GWB bills and voting NO on all bills supported by our president, are you not part of the problem? Your current job approval rating is at 11%Now you want to be part of the solution? Maybe in the next Congress if you win your district reelection, you can indeed be part of the solution. But you will have to change your ways.
Cheer!
Northstar, a Democrat and neighbor.
Very nicely done Northstar. My mother worked hard all her life, when she got sick at 80 her Medicare did indeed cover most of her expenses, however, when she became bedridden and had a short life expectency it was the saving grace of Medicaid secondary to that Medicare that allowed for us to care for her in our home and keep our jobs every day because they assisted us with a sitter so we could keep her at home, not worry about her being sick and alone, and still go to work every day. Most people don't want to think about this, we are working/middle class folks, always work, every day, always have and like to be productive, but the illness of a loved one is serious business and can take a toll on regular folks like us who would not have the financial means to care for an ill loved one without the back up the Medicaid secondary to Medicare provides. The 1% don't get this portion of the problem because it is a problem they will never have to deal with, when they parade their elderly on stage we all know that while they may indeed receive Medicare and Social Security, those are not the only safety nets they have (unlike working/middle class families) we know they are really just rubbing our noses in the fact that they get to take better care of their parents than the rest of us do and that just does not sit very well with me. Sorry Paulie, you were not very coherent last night, did not make much sense, and told a couple of whoppers (yes, lies of ommission are whoppers too) that you will probably need to visit your priest to talk about.
Great post Northstar,
Mr Ryan's plans for us does not address how often Medicaid has to be used for chronically ill people who are not anywhere near retirement age. What's to happen to those folks and their families? Some have disabilities that qualify them for SS and Medicare and with the help of a supplementary ins can survive to keep battling, but there comes a day when they have to be in a nursing home, is his plan to throw them out on the street? Anyone who visits a nursing home, will see patients far from retirement age who can need long time care for a disabling disease coming into their lives long before they have given a thought to necessary long term care.
Somehow I cant see the Republicans doing anything for them. We have people making life changing decisions who have never walked a foot not to mention a mile in those shoes. I know this personally as I have walked many miles down this road and it is not possible to do it on your own, unless you are in the 1%.
Beverly in Chicago
Bev, I would not be surprised if feisty would have wrote this, However coming from you it just shows me that you are misguided and so frustrated that you even insult our heritage.
Please get off form that platform, it is old. Yes, she was very eloquent in her speech, and it was obviously to all who she was backing up.
Union Baby and Gingerbread,
Yes, Medicaid is truly the safey net for middle class families too.
And the GOP wants to block grant these federal dollars to the states with no strings.
Without federal standards, you would neeed to be very careful which state you reside in if you think your family will ever need Medicaid for the elderly, the disabled, and children.

cythia's I don't see your point, and don't forget, i'm not a liberal like you so I'm suppose to be stupid.
Get my point?
Cynthia, just ignore her. She claims Spanish as her first language but cannot even grasp basic syntax.
Liberals don't need to have a point, because a point in every direction is the same as no point at all. Which is why liberalism is undefinable.
NorthstarDFL-
with Medicaid you have hit the real hotbutton issue in Ryan's budget. Medicare there isn't much of a difference in the long term between what the president and Ryan propose. both plans amount to the same thing, i just prefer the President's approach because i don't trust the private sector to cut costs the way the Ryan plan outlines. This is not the case with Medicaid.
Medicaid is the lifeline to so many, not just the elderly, but new and expecting mothers, children under 5 whose parents don't have insurance, and the poor who can't get medical help. The cuts Romney Ryan want to make to Medicaid would absolutely gut the program and put these people into positions where they can't get medical assistance.
It is my belief that a society should be judged not by the status and lifestyles of the wealthy, but by how the most disadvantaged person in that society is treated. In this measure, the Romney Ryan plan would set us back to a time when the disadvantaged were truly on their own. That is flat out wrong as far as i'm concerned when we live in the "Greatest nation on earth."
I also caught concern looking as though she plagiarized a quote. Right, concern?
At that point, I think all of us should simply skip over her posts. You don't talk to people that do things like that.
newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
You would use anything to silence me. Typical liberalism, and you are nothing but a dog. Don't get to close to President Obama, or President to be Romney. Wait, at least with Romney you will still be alive and getting some air. Will you be changing back to a Horse anytime soon?
Let's take out the Pop corn, Romney/Ryan 2012. There is no other choice.
Un perro es una cosa linda de Dios, y no se deveria comer.
Tzalaran,
"It is my belief that a society should be judged not by the status and lifestyles of the wealthy, but by how the most disadvantaged person in that society is treated. "
I agree with you completely!
The GOP talks about family values but pays only lip service to the real life of families when fate blows your plans out of the water.
(Another political Parody song by Bruce-1628250, sung to the tune of "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?")
And you notice that concern does respond to plagiarism. Lack of education, insight and ability is clearly at work here.
Let me spell it out for you concern, so even you can get this. Plagiarism is STEALING. People get sued over it, people lose their jobs over it. And people are banned from FR when they engage in it. It is easy to see when you are doing it, so I warn you, the next time I will send it directly to the moderators.
That is my last word about this to you.
But it's okay to put them on the roof of your car, eh? It's apparently not okay to eat animals, but it's okay to abuse them? Brilliant logic. But I expected nothing less from our resident expert on "nuevos socialistas".
Agreed Bruce, they get 8 years to mess everything up and someone is supposed to walk into town and clean up all that elephant poop less than 4 years after the circus left town? No, not hardly, not this time. No Romney, No Ryan, No republicans.
Hope and change are working very, very well for my working/middle class family, thanks for asking! (my favorite bummper sticker of the year)
Ryan Budget cuts Medicaid by 1/3rd and eliminates the ACA. Rep. Ryan, what are sick people going to do with no health coverage? Will the hospitals stop treating them? This is the hidden cost of the Ryan budget.
I hope it is your last word on this. Wow! I would have never guess it "Plagiarism", that is too big of a word for me.
You know it rhymes with "Racism" and also with comemierdism. Did your master take you out for a walk this morning?
As Elvis would have song "You aint nothring but a hound Dog"
Did you watch Fox yesterday? I watch NBC, and you know, they say laughter is good for the soul. I bet Rachel Maddog Maddaw looks like Feisty, or is it the other way around. They both talk about Pop corn.
Next week will be your week, so don't worry.
Judging by your second-to-last sentence, it's clear "popcorn" is too big a word for you.
Concern
in your rhyming book
does orgasm also rhyme with plagiarism and rascism?
literary leaps abound, literally!
Xabre: she may find out HOW big a word plagiarism is if she pulls it again, FR can't and won't put up with it. I have read too many freshmen college papers to not recognize plagiarism when it is happening.
Her response denotes her lack of intelligence, educational training and respect for the work of others.
Typical of someone that would vote for Romney.
Tzalaran-
I have to disagree with you on this. I think there are major differences between the two approaches, and the differences are Costs and Uncertainly.
The Ryan plan will issue a voucher equal to the current cost of Medicare that can be used to purchase private insurance. His assumption is that the "market" will lower the costs of Medicare, at least for some.
His math does not add up.
Medicare has two layers of costs - payments to doctors and administrative costs. Medicare administrative costs are significantly lower than private insurance plans, and Medicare is not operated for profit. Medicare is also almost universally accepted by doctors.
Private insurance has higher administrative costs, and will have to make a profit. This adds an additional layer of costs -profit margin - to the equation, and adds in an increased level of administrative costs. So costs will undoubtedly go up.
Doctors will also have the option of which private Medicare insurance plans they will accept - similar to how they accept health insurance now. Payments to doctor will either stay the same as Medicare, or (more likely) they will increase in order to ensure the plan is accepted.
So assuming the same level of benefits and services, and adding in the additional costs (incl. profit), there is mathematically no way that a voucher equal to the current cost of Medicare will cover a private insurance plan.
There will also be added Uncertainty as our future seniors struggle to read through the fine print of the different insurance plans and try to decide which one is best for them - all the while knowing they are on the hook for any additional or unforeseen costs.
The Ryan Medicare plan is a transparent attempt to transfer costs and uncertainty from the government to our future seniors.

Chris - oh please tell me you're not trying to discuss anything with Concern!!! She doesn't comprehend anything but is good at spouting the GOP talking points - even though she can't spell or construct a sentence. Most of us have just put her on ignore. She makes no sense at all.

"she may find out HOW big a word plagiarism is if she pulls it again"
Too funny!!! Ask some of your buddies about the above qoute. Amazing you want to call someone out!!
Clara KCMO
Clara are you sure you are a Liberal, you misspelled racism.
No, Orgasm does not rhyme with plagiarism, but then again you will never experience one and that explains your frustration.
Xabre – tu hablas mucha mierda, y necesitas. Let FR do what it needs to do. There are more like me in this ridiculous left commentary media?
As far as the DOG that is NewdayDrawning is concern, I do not need to pull it but I can see you need to by the frustration that you show on FR.
You girls are in need of some good loving and attention.
Talking about politics. Have you seen that movie, call 2016? I hear that is number 7 this week last wee it was number 8. Imagine that a documentary doing better than some movies and it’s not even playing in all Theaters.
TNSEVOL-
Everything i've read on the subject of Medicare states that the long term defecit reduction under both plans is practically the same. i also stated that i preferred the President's plans due to many of the concerns you raise, so all in all we're on the same page regarding Medicare.
The issue to me isn't about Medicare, it IS about Medicaid. Romney/Ryan will eviscerate Medicaid and no one but the victims of that cut will ever be the wiser because no one is talking about it because the poor don't matter unless they are elderly and therefore vote... any talk on Medicare from either side right now is half truths at best (this according to factcheck and another site i looked at last night), and is just pandering to the elderly vote. Medicaid is the lifeline that many americans rely on to get health care, and the republican agenda is to eliminate this support system from millions of people which will increase the health care costs on all the rest of us due to the lack of coverage and subsequent emergency room procedures these citizens require.
We have a choice to move forward as a nation that takes care of themselves at the expense of everyone else, or to look after our fellow citizens as if they were our brothers and sisters. We can be a country that leads the way in showing how a modern civilized country can take care of its population, or we can be a nation that condemns cruelty and abuses in other countries (e.g., Syria and Iran) while ignoring the swelling ranks of the poor and underprivilaged in our own borders. I prefer to not live in a hypocritical society...
Certainly, a Republican wouldn't misspell the principle that forms the central theme of their failed political ideology.
Fact checking for thee, but not for me
By Greg Sargent
Get this: The Romney campaign’s position is now that the Obama camp should pull its ads when fact checkers call them out as false — but that Romney and his advisers should feel no such constraint.
This is not an exaggeration. This is really the Romney campaign’s position.
As Buzzfeed reports this morning, top Romney advisers say their most effective ads are the ones attacking Obama over welfare, and that they will not allow their widespread denunciation by fact checkers as false slow down their campaign one little bit:
“Our most effective ad is our welfare ad,” a top television advertising strategist for Romney, Ashley O’Connor, said at a forum Tuesday hosted by ABCNews and Yahoo! News. “It’s new information.”...
The Washington Post’s “Fact Checker” awarded Romney’s ad “four Pinocchios,” a measure Romney pollster Neil Newhouse dismissed.
“Fact checkers come to this with their own sets of thoughts and beliefs, and we’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers,” he said.
That’s a very interesting admission. But it gets better. Reading this brought to mind Romney’s own remarks about fact-checking and political advertising not long ago. Needless to say, he has a different standard for the Obama campaign:
“You know, in the past, when people pointed out that something was inaccurate, why, campaigns pulled the ad,” Romney said on the radio. “They were embarrassed. Today, they just blast ahead. You know, the various fact checkers look at some of these charges in the Obama ads and they say that they’re wrong, and inaccurate, and yet he just keeps on running them.”
The upshot is that Romney doesn’t have an intellectual objection to fact checking’s limitations in a general sense, at least when it’s applied to the Obama campaign. In that case, fact checking is a legitmate exercise Obama should heed. But at the same time, the Romney campaign explicitly says it doesn’t see it as legitimate or constraining when it’s applied to him.
By the way, this isn’t the first time the Romney camp has insisted that it is not beholden to the standards it expects the Obama campaign to follow. For the better part of a year, Romney has hammered Obama over the “net” jobs lost on his watch, to paint him as a job destroyer, a metric that factors the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of jobs lost at the start of Obama’s term, before his policies took effect. Yet Romney advisers have argued, with no apparent sense of irony, that his own record should not be judged by one net jobs number.
In this sense, the Romney campaign continues to pose a test to the news media and our political system. What happens when one campaign has decided there is literally no set of boundaries that it needs to follow when it comes to the veracity of its assertions? The Romney campaign is betting that the press simply won’t be able to keep voters informed about the disputes that are central to the campaign, in the face of the sheer scope and volume of dishonesty it uncorks daily.
Paul Krugman’s question continues to remain relevant: “Has there ever been a candidacy this cynical?

Mornin' darlin'. Very enlightening article. Too bad the people who are so behind Romney won't believe it. They put their blinders on when it comes to facts because they would prefer to believe the lies and distortions because it just fits their world view. It would be sad, if these people didn't have the exact same right to vote that people who investigate, make an INFORMED decision and act on that in the voting booth have. I despair for our country when a candidate can lie, CHEAT, steal and say "hold this guy to a standard I am TOO GOOD to be held to" and STILL have people willing to fall in line behind him. It speaks volumes about Romney and Ryan's sense of entitlement and their opinion of the voting public. Sadly, many of their followers are willing to uphold that view of the populace.

There is an interesting article in Rolling Stone about Romney and Bain Capital. The article discusses how Romney used DEBT to leverage his purchases of companies, which he then loaded with DEBT to pay the Bainmanagement fees. The interest payments on this DEBT is deductible as a business expense, lowering the tax obligations of the business - meaning the Government basically subsidized the interest payments on the debt Romney used to pay Bain's management fees! Without the Government-subsidized tax deduction on the interst payments, the Leveraged Buyout model would not be profitable.
Romney was then taxed on his personal earnings at the 15% rate for "Carried Interest" - meaning the vast majority of his income was funneld through a TAX LOOPHOLE. This is half the rate that would be paid on Earned Income (such as salaries and bonuses).
Based on these facts, the author makes some startling yet extremely telling statements:
It was a fascinating read, and a detailed insight into the world of finance and capital that created Romney's fortune.
Fact checkers having their own set of beliefs? They do, in fact, have a different set of beliefs than Romney campaign. They believe in facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It reminds me of Bush era, Bush Administration claim that you "create your own reality" which I always interpreted to mean you can make up pseudo-facts (i.e. LIES) and if you repeat them often enough, people will come to accept them as real facts. Remember the yellow cake uranium and WMD rationale for invading Iraq. Remember the Saddam Hussein- Osama Bin Laden conspiracy. Creating a reality based on LIES yields nothing but trouble.
Republicans call this PROPOGANDA when the Commies did it. Now it appears to be their guiding principle.
How disgusting! How horrible for our great country! The clock is ticking as their lies spread. Our time to deal realistically with our most pressing problems is running out. Truth and facts need to decide our great debates, not lies and twisted logic.
What I find amazing is that Ryan invoked God's name so often - even as he lied and lied and lied. Where was the lightening strike????
Obama/Biden 2012
Oh, "enlightened" libbie, perhaps before criticizing sentence structure of others ... you could learn to spell the word "lightning". Obviously, Mr. Ryan gave a very strong speech because now ALL YOU LIBS can do is spit and sputter and declare him a liar .... which apparently is the "assigned" Media Matters talking point of the day.
Of course, the real issue is why this contrived website totally ignored the brilliant address of Condoleezza Rice, which was delivered without teleprompter, that outlined the weak and inconsistent foreign policies of Obama's administration.
Perhaps, because she was SO BRILLIANT AND INSPIRING .... that is why she is being ignored. This website, after all, is "in the tank" for Obama and the only thing "tanking" is Obama in the polls.
America is hungry for better leadership in the White House. We proved it in 2010 and stopped most of the insane spending and waste. That hunger still burns in 2012. Obama obviously can't work with anyone outside of his administration. Do we really want to listen to 4 more years of America's leader blaming someone else??? ROMNEY/RYAN 2012
Uh....what?
Judge to Toss Out Changes in Florida Voter Registration
By LIZETTE ALVAREZ THE NEW YORK TIMES
Published: August 29, 2012
MIAMI — A federal judge said on Wednesday that he planned to block provisions of a Florida measure that made it harder for organizations to register voters in the state.
The measure, part of a broad and contentious 2011 election law in Florida, had a serious impact on third-party voter groups, like the League of Women Voters and Rock the Vote, which filed the suit along with the Florida Public Interest Research Group Education Fund. The groups asserted that the new requirements were onerous and made volunteers vulnerable to fines and even felony charges.
Voter registration, particularly among Democratic voters, declined significantly in the past year. The Florida Times-Union reported this week that the number of registered Democrats had increased by only 11,365 from July 1, 2011, to Aug. 1, 2012, a sharply lower figure than in the same periods during the past two presidential races. In 2004, nearly 159,000 new Democrats were registered in that period. In 2008, the number was nearly 260,000.
The 2011 Florida election law required groups that registered voters to turn in their completed forms within 48 hours or risk penalties. As a result, several organizations, including the League of Women Voters and Rock the Vote, stopped working in the state. Previously, groups had 10 days to submit the forms.
Deirdre Macnab, the president of the League of Women Voters of Florida, which suspended its operations for a year, said she was delighted with the ruling.
“It sets an important precedent in Florida and nationally that gives a strong level of protection for third-party registration groups,” Ms. Macnab said. “We have been a historical part of America in reaching out to underserved communities.”
But, she added, the all-volunteer voter registration groups now face an arduous task. The registration deadline for the November election is five weeks away.
“We have so far now to catch up in making sure that every day Florida voices are going to be heard in a very important election with very important decisions to be made,” Ms. Macnab said.
Judge Robert L. Hinkle of Federal District Court in Tallahassee said he expected to prohibit the voter registration restrictions once a federal appeals court dismissed the case. The judge had suspended the restrictions on May 31, calling them “harsh and impractical” and “burdensome.” Some voter groups restarted their registration drives after his initial ruling.
Changes to the voter registration process are among several measures in Florida’s election law that are now before the courts. Critics of the law, including groups representing minorities, view it as an attempt to suppress voter registration and turnout, particularly among Democratic voters.
A separate federal lawsuit that challenges the election law under the Voting Rights Act is being brought by the Justice Department.
This month, a federal court ruled that a measure in the law curtailing early voting days could depress voter turnout among blacks. The court barred Florida from carrying out the changes in the five Florida counties that are covered by the Voting Rights Act of 1965. That act requires that any changes in voting law must be approved by the Justice Department in certain states and counties with a history of racial discrimination.
Due to all the hot air emanating from Tampa yesterday, this news fell under the radar, however, this little light of justice is shining brighter today. It is not too late and we'll try and get all those folks who were in danger of being disenfranchised registered so they can be real Americans and vote for their choice.
gingerbread,
Thanks so much for the update about Florida.
Voter registration drives provide the needed opportunity that all citizens can vote on election day.
Yesterday, I watched NBC again while my register democratic husband watch Fox and recorded it again. Just as I challenge some one from the left to watch Fox.
I could not help laughing at the comments form NBC’s Al the mummy Sharpton, Mr. Chilled up the legs, the young guy, and let’s not forget “take out the Popcorn” Rachel Maddog Maddaw.
There was something that hit my mind about Rachel and that is that there is a possibility that either she is Feisty or Feisty wants to be her.
However, as I ponder it came to me that at leas Rachel was courteous and mentioned that they were all great speeches when the individuals finished their speech. Yes, she was courteous and cynical at the same time.
The “let’s take out the Popcorn” phrase just keeps reminding me of the same phrase coming from feisty and her clan.
Concerned, have you been checked for mental defects?
Sally Kohn of Fox News wrote.:
And you want these liars for leaders???????
What you say is blaming somebody else (Bush), I consider generally to be simply citing the facts about where we were in January 2009. If you make a runner in the 100 meter dash start 10 meters further back than the other runners, he will most certainly not win the race. It is important to look at the starting line when looking at a President's record.
Comparisons are valid ways to gain perspective. For instance, Bush started his Presidency with a budget surplus of $100 billion . He left with the budget deficit exceeding $1.3 trillion. An increase in budget deficit of $1.4 trillion. Conversely, Obama took office facing a budget deficit of over $1.3 trillion. Now its $1.1 trillion, an improvement of $200 billion.
Comparisons like this illuminate us. Those who refuse to make comparisons such as this, do what exactly to make a judgment about our current situation?
Yeah, there's no problems Gingerbread, while taking my son to UF I witnessed in the food court by the bookstore Plan Parenthood coming up to students asking them if they are regestered to vote. While I sat there with a smile on my face, one student said that he was regestered in New York and the "recruiter" said "it doesn't matter, you can vote here too", while a hand full of students with "Students support Obama" t-shirts. The kid said "no thank you" and they continued to pressure him until he just kept wallking away. Good way to welcome a kid to college right?. But, yeah there's no problems here in Florida. Heck, I can't vote for a political party in a primary due to the fact I don't belong to a politacal party.
Paul, if what you relate is actually true, you've been known to play fast and loose with facts before, so you'll excuse my taking that story with a grain of salt.
You could have interpreted according to your mindset. The student may not have realized that he can vote in Florida if registered as a resident and that is perfectly legal and nothing illegal asking a student that.
Where it is wrong, and we have a certain amount of it in Fl, is if you live in another state, and vote in both places one by absentee and one in person that is fraud.
As for your not voting in a primary, that is by your choice.....take a stand dont be a fence sitter register with the party of your choice (the GOP sounds like you'd be a good match) and then you can vote for what you believe in and you won't have to sit on the sidelines taking pot shots at what doesn't fit your mood of the moment. Less stressful when you believe in yourself.

So, Repbulicans, do tell...when it comes to the RNC Convention, what you have us be "outraged" by today?
Dr. Paul Ryan already had my respect as, unlike the current GOP nominee, Dr. Ryan actually DOES believe in something.
What a shame that he humbled himself with yesterday's "tribute" after the debacle that was Tuesday's nomination process. He'd have better served his cause had he stood up on top of the podium at the convention, dropped his pants and told the GOP hierarchy to kiss his arse!
Wow...coffee hasn't kicked in...that should be "Dr. Ron Paul". My bad.
No I don't think it's the coffee. Your brain is under utilized.
Nah...more likely overutilized by having more than one thought about more than one Republican today..."Ron Paul" vs "Paul Ryan".
Whatever.
I'll own my error on that one.
da Noid,
I knew what you meant.
It happens to all of us on occasion....
I'm just curious Da Noid, in what way was this particular nomination process different from that of 2008 with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? I assumed you were speaking of Dr. Paul, by the way. No worries. But I would be interested in hearing your take on what you perceived was different.
There was less competition this time, for one. I remember Hillary and Barack being somewhat close in the polls, unless my memory is faulty.
You should of just used "A"hole that covers both.
Xabre - plus the convention in 2008 was full of excitement and the applause was thundering! Last night and the night before - a truly flat convention with applause in the right places but nothing overwhelming - nothing exciting at all.
Again, where are the young people? There are none in the crowd - very few. There is no future for the Republican party!
Obama/Biden 2012
You're rigth SS, hey who was that Congressman that introduced Obama again? Not so much excitement four years later right?
So you're saying there was NO young people in the crowd? No a single person? LOL Good eye.
Speeking Insanity, Most conventions send elected party representatives .... and those elected are usually on the older side. Sorry this was not a mosh pit of youngsters and blaring music more suited to your brain capacity.
The GOP Convention & Lie Show Via Teleprompter. After Ann Romney's "love" speech and Chris Christie's "respect, not love" speeches Tuesday, Wednesday was the convention roll out of Paul Ryan.
We heard the required red meat about food stamp president, the barbed remark aimed at the DNC Chairwoman, Obama-Care, the "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" mentality and once again a GOPer began a speech with 9/11. It seems that starting more wars and reminding everyone of 9/11 is a requirement for any GOP Convention. Is that all they have?
Then came Paul Ryan. Ryan stood there with a straight, boyish face and delivered what has to be a speech with the most lies ever. If it were not so sad with such huge repercussions for America, it would be funny because every accusation can be fact-checked and debunked.
Ryan, the guy who voted YEA on every single piece of unfunded Bush/GOP piece of legislation stood before a national audience and dared speak about the deficit and the debt...and blame democrats.
Ryan, the guy who used the USA credit card to give millions in tax cuts to those who did not need them, dared stand before a national audience and say it was the other guy's fault the GOP left a disaster behind them.
Ryan, who would kill medicare, medicaid, social security, food aid to the poor without so much as a backward glance and do so at the first opportunity, dared to stand before a national audience and declare he wanted to preserve it for the future. The GOP hates these programs, has always hated them and want to eliminate them but Ryan said they are a promise and he wants to preserve them. Trust him?
There was zero truth in Paul Ryan's speech and zero substance. Absolutely zero. It was negative speech with no substance about what Romney/Ryan would do but rather about blaming President Obama for all our ills and criticizing all that has been done--zero about their plans. It was delivered with a nasty tone throughout. But he gets credit for doing a great job; he gave a well-delivered speech before a crowd of enthusiastic convention attendees who prefer lies over substance and who want to believe Ryan is honest because....darn it, conservatives really are what the claim to be, and Ryan is their new hero.
P.S. Note the abundant use of the Teleprompter. What's up with that? Can't these GOPer guys/gals give speeches without a teleprompter? Heavens, this is just horrible; it means that they do not have original thoughts or speaking abilities without the Teleprompter, right? (snark off).
Jody---I noticed how all the speakers were using Teleprompters (except Condi Rice, who I didn't think did as good a job as others thought) and had to laugh at the hypocrisy of the Republicans. I will feel the same way when I see a photo of Mitt in his campaign bus (although I doubt he will actually ride on it---it will just be a prop for photo ops, I'm sure). But the lies are worse than the hypocrisy and I was stunned and appalled at how they just stand there and lie. I guess I am even more naive than I thought I was.
The bus
Mitt will now have to ride on
one of the Black Secret Service buses.
Like the one they slammed Obama for riding in last year.
The opening remarks from Ryan about how he had NEVER seen an Opponent who wouldn't talk about their record,...
Yeah, Um, Paul - Have you MET your running mate? Because we are constantly told that he has some economic chops
and yet,...
we can't talk about Bain - companies raided, on the board, off the board - retroactively retired, investments in aborted fetuses, investments in foreign companies, valuation concerns in the ole' IRA, etc
we can't talk about his role as governor of Massachusetts - their healthcare plan, they were 47th in job creation under his 'leadership', all of the FEE revenue he raised (not a tax, mind you - and yet, eerily similar to the FEES for not having healthcare that the US Supreme Court just decided was indeed a 'tax', I digress) - or this infamous "Scholarship" program, funded by taxpayer money
we can't talk about the Olympics because that bailout was taxpayer funded - in fact, R$mney hasn't met a taxpayer funded bailout he can't get on board with
we can't talk about his tax returns. How a multi-multi millionaire abuses the tax code to support lavish lifestyle choices that the rest of Americans can't even fathom the Chutzpah it would take to even claim the deduction of a dressage horse. Nor his charitable contributions that include ANYTHING other than a tithe to the Mormon Church; but wait,...
we can't talk about his religion. although some have said that a tenet in Mormonism is to infiltrate government (much as the dog whistlers have been claiming about the Muslim Brotherhood)
we can't talk about him being pro choice before he was pro life
and I am presuming here; but I am pretty sure we can't talk about his weathervane approach to every single topic or political issue in such a bi-polar fashion as to have a statement made at breakfast have three different, competing views by dinner - what's up with THAT?
and we absolutely under no circumstances can discuss Truth, Honesty, or a Plan for the future of this country.
So yeah, what was that you were saying, Mr. Ryan, about someone not wanting to talk about their record?
Right.
And if they just keep saying them, well hell, they just might turn into facts.
The truth? If they stick to that they haven't got a snowballs chance in hell of winning and they know it.
Me too. It seems to stun you (me). They have no scruples. I guess that's what happens when winning means everything (the ends justifying the means).
"Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead." - Thomas Paine
Obama/Biden 2012
Let me translate that for those in a hurry:
Paul Ryan is a liar. There is just no spinning that one.
It looks like media matters has put out the word to all the paid, libbie trolls here today to simply call everything a lie. LOL ! This should be fun to watch.
The economy still sucks under Obama and his presidency has been a failure of leadership. Libbies REFUSE to discuss Obama's "economic success" because there has been none.
Let's compare the numbers.
When Obama took office, almost 800,000 people were losing their jobs every month. Last month we gained 163,000. That is an improvement of almost 963,000 jobs gained per month. Compare that to Bush's total job gains of 1 million in 8 years. Wow.
The stock market was spiraling downward when Obama took office hitting a low of 6500. Now it is double that at over 13,000.
The auto industry was on the verge of total collapse. After they got a bridge loan and entered bankrupcy (except Ford), they emerged with increasing sales and are now very profitable. Without the bridge loan, GM and Chrysler would have had to shut down, potentially resulting in up to a million more job losses in the auto companies themselves and their supply chain. They have repaid almost all of this bridge loan. Under Romney's bankrupcy plan, no bank was in a position at that time to take on more shaky loans and he did not publish his plan until after Obama did the bridge loan. The clunkers for cash program provided additional stimulus for the auto industry and they all benefited and were strengthened enough to begin expanding again.
The budget deficit Obama inherited from Bush was $1.3 trillion. Now its $1.1 trillion.
This is but a small part of Obama's economic successes.
His stimulus plan ended the recession within 4 months. This saved many businesses from going out of business as they began to experience better sales with the economy growing again.
We'd be doing even better now if further stimulus had been passed instead of being blocked by House Republicans such as Paul Ryan. Consumer spending is the lifeblood of our economy. Businesses benefit when spending is up. Government spending contributes to this. The stimulus of 2009 allowed state and local governments to avoid layoffs. Continuing this aid to the states would have saved 600,000 jobs since lost. Remember, that a terminated government employee is eligible for unemployment compensation which at 70% of income is a cost that was simply shifted from government to unemployment funds which have been subsidized by subsequent federal spending to replenish depleted unemployment funds.
If people lose their jobs and you deny them unemployment compensation, they would default on their mortgages and consumer loans, car loans, and credit card debt which would further damage the housing and banking industries where we still have a lot of pending foreclosures and bad debt respectively.
Obama's economic policies have helped us recover from the Great Recession of 2008. They were wise policies that prevented an already bad economy from getting much, much worse.
We need to continue this progress, not roll it back. The rich do not need more tax cuts. They really do need increased sales so they can make more profit while expanding their work force. Romney's plan is a sham, a giveaway to the rich. Our economy is growing and will only accelerate its growth if we don't do something stupid like laying off hundreds of thousands of government workers who do contribute to sales in this economy as they spend their incomes. As employment increases, tax revenues will go up and costs of unemployment, food stamps, welfare will go down.
With Obama, we will all be better off.
Lots of gremlins on here today.
Whoever SEEMS TO BE SO MAD AT OBAMA, SHOULD READ THIS AND REFLECT A MOMENT, THEY WOULD SAY:
"Hmmmmmmmmmm...YOU ARE RIGHT!!........."
Now, since Obama's regime, all of a sudden, folks have gotten mad, and want to take America Back.
BACK TO WHERE is my question?
After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?
You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed
a President.
You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate
Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.
You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to
us.
You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said
illegal war.
You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the
previous 42 Presidents combined.
You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in
Iraq.
You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that
shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.
You didn't get mad when they didn't catch Bin Laden.
You didn't get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and
current account deficits.
You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.
You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could
spend, the 1%, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.
You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.
You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they
had no health insurance.
You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush
Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments,
retirement, and home values.
You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people
in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick.
Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax
dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are
all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick... Oh, Hell No!
PS. This one definitely needs to be circulated to everyone on your
mailing list!
Let's use the computer to help our chosen President Barack Obama.
LETS GET STARTED, RIGHT!
I might add that they didn't get mad when the Bush/Cheney national security team ignored warnings about Osama Bin Laden's intent to attack us in our country.
Tommy D. makes a couple of good points. But, he also exaggerates, and even "fibs" about a couple of other things to make his point, and THAT is the trouble with politics today. People take a particular factoid, and "spin" it to support their own position, instead of reflecting what it really should about a particular person place or thing.
First off, he's right when says the supreme court selected George Bush to be President, by denying people in certain areas of Florida the right to have their votes properly counted. But, I blame Al Gore for that, just as much as I blame anyone else. Because, he could have challenged the congressional certification of that election, and he refused to do so.
He's also right about Cheney and the oil companies. We weren't even allowed to know who attended those meetings because Bush's people claimed executive privilege. That was terrible, and the price of gas started climbing from about $2.00 a gallon to where it is now, right at that point in time.
But, the oil companies didn't talk anyone into invading Iraq. The invasion wasn't illegal either, because Bush had congressional authorization to use the military in Iraq. What's more, the U.N. itself declared that Saddam Hussein was in violation of resolution #1441 which mandated that he submit to U.N. inspections. I disagreed with the Iraq war, myself. But, the people I blame for it, along with Bush, are the Democrats in congress who didn't have the guts to vote against it. They could have blocked the measure from going through. But, they did not.
Democrats (including Barrack Obama, and Joe Biden, as members of the U.S. Senate) voted to continue funding the war, when they could have said "no more".....and that was AFTER they took control, of both houses of congress in 2006.
I don't know where he gets the thing about Bush borrowingmoney from foreign sources. But, I'd sure like to know his source on that. Maybe he's referring to the fact that so much of our debt is owned by foreign interests, and that would be correct. But, to my knowledge, the U.S. hasn't gone out and "borrowed" money from any foreign country's national bank.
Also, the final talley on the missing cash in Iraq was 6.6 billion, not 10. What's more Iraqi officials were/are viewed as the prime offenders. The same sort of thing happened during WWII, the amount of money and gold that was pilfered throughout Europe at the end of the war wa astronomical.
Furthermore, jobs have been going overseas for years. It didn't start with George Bush. In many instances it is the unions that have forced companies to seek out cheaper sources of labor. Many times those sources are overseas.
I didn't like George Bush, and I certainly don't think he was an economic genius. But, he did have 9/11 thrust upon him, and that caused a good portion of the deficits to which you refer. It is a common occurrence after a war to have an economic downturn, and deficits due to military spending. The same thing happened after WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the 1st Gulf War.
The conditions at Walter Reed didn't just occur or happen right when George Bush took office. The facility was old and in need of repair for years. Nobody paid attention to it until we had a greater number of woundedGI's sent there. Then, it drew attention.
The New Orleans situation was mishandled at the Federal level, yes. But, it was also severely mismanaged at the local level as well. The drivers who were supposed to run the evacuation buses all left town, and some of the copsthere went "rogue". People didn't go to hurricane shelters, and didn't evacuate (days in advance of Katrina) when they were told to do so. By the way; what's going on down there now? Is there a news blackout or something? Because, I hear tell of people who need help. But, the media isn't feeding off it the way it did when Bush held office. Like I said, I wasn't, and I am not now a Bush supporter. But, Obama does get a favorable "shake" from the press, such as I've never seen any President get before now.
Oh, and by the way, Obama decided to leave the Bush tax cuts in place for the first three years of his administration. If they were so bad, why didn't he seek to repeal them right away?
Oh, and 200,000 people didn't die because they didn't have health insurance. Your statement implies that all 200,000 were refused care, because they had no insurance, and died as a result. You and I both know that didn't happen. If it did, there would be 200,000 lawsuits, and very possibly 200,000 criminal cases. THIS is the very sort of exaggeration that ruins an argument in favor of a "public option." (Which by the way Obama promised, but didn't deliver)
Lastly, a lack of regulation didn't cause anyone to lose their investments. A lack of smart investing did, and home lending problems beagan when people who didn't have enough money to buy homes, were given (accepted) "flex-rate" mortgages, thinking they were going to pay 1% interest for the life of their loan. If they had been smart enough to say "no, I want a FIXED rate mortgage" they wouldn't have had a problem with home values being less than the amount of the loans that were extended to them.
People aren't mad that a black man became President. Saying that, is just a way for you not to have to debate the facts.
...and the facts are that the unemployment rate went up into double digits for the first time in more than 30 years AFTER Obama took over as President. This is the weakest and slowest economic recovery since the great depression. (...and Obama's been in office for almost 4 years now. It's time to stop blaming the previous administration, and fix the problem!) He said he represented "change." Then he gave millions in guaranteed federal loans to companies that contributed large sums of cash to his 2008 campaign. He is gutting the military! At a time when we should be increasing our strategic, and intelligence capabilities, not stifling their development! He also promised nationalized health care, with no mandated coverage, and a public option. Instead, we got mandated coverage, and NO public option. He's also spent the last year dividing this country with hate speak towards people who worked hard all their lives to take care of their families, and build a nest-egg for themselves. The wealthy and the well off worked for their money. they didn't get it for "free." They aren't the reason why anyone else is poor in this country. People go as far as their talents take them. Moreover, they go as far as they have the desire or the inclination to go. The idea that we all have to "share" in each others wealth or possessions is puerile B.S. If you want what I have, go get it for yourself the way I got mine; GO WORK FOR IT! Obama is encouraging a generation to "mooch" off of others instead of working for themselves.
Your novel is the ramblings of an idiot.
Shellie - ZMan is a Republican - that explains it all and your label of IDIOT is appropriate!
Obama/Biden 2012
In other words, he lied out of his wazoo.
The GOP Convention has been, and their whole campaign will be, a "Festival of Lies."
The GOP faithful were certainly enthusiastic about Congressman Ryan's speech. I guess they're not much for facts, though.
You know, for about 3 weeks since Ryan was announced as the VP candidate I've been told how smart he is and what a policy wonk he is. Well, for a supposedly smart guy, Congressman Ryan has a pretty crappy memory.
I can't tell which "whopper" from last night's speech I liked more...
...the one where he blamed the President for the closure of the Janesville, WI GM plant even though it closed in December 2008 when "The 43rd President of the United States" (he who shall not be named at the Republican National Convention) was still "in charge".
...OR...
...the one where the President didn't act on the recommendations of the Simpson-Bowles committee when Congressman Ryan, as part of the committee, voted against the recommendations of that committee (so, basically, you're upset because the President didn't do what you didn't want him to do).
Add that to Congressman Ryan being upset with the very defense budget cuts that HE HIMSELF voted for and...well...gee, this guy just can't seem to remember much that he does, now, can he?
Smart guy, indeed.
The Repubs, if the right wing posters on this board are any gauge, hate when facts mess up their ideology. I'm sure they'll be either blaming the "liberal" media or a conspiracy of fact-checkers. After all, they all know that Fox News and the conservative editorial writers are the real protectors of the truth.
The Republicans - paranoia and delusion all wrapped up in one neat simplistic package.
Normally I wouldn't use HuffPo as a post, but this article on the Janesville GM Plant contains a lot of links to WI papers showing the shut down process. It also shows how Rep. Ryan solicited an rec'd federal funds to assist displaced workers (not that this is bad, IMO but it is contrary to some of his stated positions).

I don't think either party is very honest, just my personal opinion. And if you think one party has the answer, I don't agree with that either. If the two parties could compromise, the answer might be found. But Romney/Ryan have my vote. Its all about the economy.
I would love it if you would 'splain what it is that Romney and Ryan are going to do to improve the economy.
I see you trying to soothe your concious enough to vote for these two liars . . . works for you . . . works for me.
Sad though.
Just me said:
You talk about compromise but then say you are voting for the party that has turned compromise into a 4 letter word.
You also say it's all about the economy and again are voting for a party whose plan (Ryan budget) explodes the debt and deficit and doesn't balance the budget for twenty something years if at all. That cuts programs for the least fortunate amongst us, the old, the young, the sick and poor only to give more tax cuts to the top (that they don't need it).
It is plainly obvious that tax cuts for the rich do not create jobs and does not stimulate the economy. I recently saw a clip of Mark Cuban and he said two things that struck me interesting, he said something that totally goes against the republican mantra that tax cuts create jobs and cause business not to hire. 1) he said he would not even notice if his tax rate from 35% to 39% . 2) He said that investment decisions are not based on taxes. He said it never even enters the conversation.
It is a fallacy that low taxes give incentives to business to expand and hire. Between WWII and the 1970's taxes were very high (sometimes as high as 91%) because of that business would reinvest profits into the business to reduce their tax burden. When taxes are low that incentive is gone and they keep that money for themselves.
There is not a business person on this planet that will hire without having demand for their product or service. When consumers have more money than to just cover just the necessities, they spend it--creating demand for a product or service. This stimulates the economy. When demand is low (like now when most people do not have extra money to spend) business lay off employees because the demand for their product or service is not there. Nowhere in either of these scenerios is taxes mentioned.
FR: "One, he has to better introduce himself to the American public; it remains striking that after running for president for much of the past five years, voters still don't have more than a two-dimensional understanding of the soon-to-be nominee"
Question - would you ever marry anyone you'd just been introduced to two months before the wedding?
So how to define Mitt Romney......let's see, a year ago, he was content to let the lightweights and lunatics he was running against define him, seemingly content to offer over and over again as his own biography simply that he'd spent his entire life in the private sector. Then when the "private sector" thing (Bain) turned on him, he took to "defining" himself in a series of meaningless word salad stump speeches about America and the future and this great country and a "plan" for it that he never quite got around to spelling out. Then when he had the chance to illustrate how justifiably proud he was of his business accomplishments and his charitable giving, he chose to hide the tax returns that would supposedly prove just what a talented and generous guy he really is. Then he chose a running mate who he had to have known would further steal the spotlight from him. Then the big "introduction" was supposed to be his wife's speech at the convention, where we learned important stuff like how they met at a dance and he makes her laugh and something about once eating dinner off an ironing board. Then there was the chance for yet another introduction in the keynote address - where Chris Christie talked for 16 minutes without even mentioning Mitt Romney by name. (In fact, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how just saying the words "Mitt Romney" is almost guaranteed to dampen the crowd's enthusiam in Tampa?) Finally, there was his running mate's speech last night - a good speaker who could really "sell" the country on Mitt Romney - but instead, we mostly heard about Mom, Janesville, and Barack Obama.
So tonight is Mitt's last best chance. But therein lies the problem. Does the GOP really want Mitt Romney to be the one to finally introduce the nation to Mitt Romney? You know, the Mitt Romney of "I'm unemployed too!", "Corporations are people, my friend", Cadillacs and car elevators and trees that are the right height and "No one's ever asked to see MY birth certificate"? THAT Mitt Romney???
So tonight should be interesting. Now that I'm a recent expert on marriage proposals, having received a fun one from Blackcatwhitecat here yesterday, I can't wait to see Mr. Romney (can't quite call him "Mitt" since we haven't been formally introduced yet or anything) get down on one knee tonight and make the proposal of his life. Last chance, sir.....
......or, maybe not. The good news is there's still one more excellent chance for Mitt Romney to finally be defined to us American voters. The bad news is that it's next week. At the Democratic convention. Ouch.
So speak now, Mr. Romney - or forever hold your peace.
Poor Romney..like so many previous presidential candidates, always a bridesmaid and never a bride!
Obama/Biden 2012
Everyone keeps saying Mitt has to introduce himself to the American people tonight. Well I disagree--I think he has to re-introduce himself to them because the picture of him that they've gotten so far hasn't endeared him to them. "corporations are people, too, my friend" "I can't have illegals working for me, I'm running for President for Pete's sake" "I like to fire people" "I'll be you $10,000". Then there are the optics--a beach house with elevators for cars, his dog on the roof of his car. THen there is the inability to relate to people---criticizing the cookies at an event, making fun of the ponchos at a Nascar race (where he said he knows team owners). Then there is his failure to give us the one piece of information we have been asking for about him---full and complete disclosure of his tax returns. I'd say Mitt has a lot of 'splaining to do and he should start tonight but somehow I doubt that he will.
Why should Romney have to introduce himself to the American people? He has been running for public office since 1994 and for president since 2003.
His issue is that since he keeps changing - in his own words- from "to the left of Kennedy", to a "moderate", then to a "severe conservative" it's hard for peole to keep track.
- As a business man Romney used government-subsidized Debt, tax credits and tax loopholes to create wealth for himself and his investors, and used a government bailout to keep Bain & Co. in buiness...
- As a governor Romney used a capital gains tax increase in conjunction with massive fee increase to balance his budget, and implemented universal healthcare....
Yet as a presidential candidate Romney has criticized government debt, government bailouts, promised to cut taxes & reduce loopholes, and promised to repeal universal healthcare.....
No wonder he needs to (re) introduce himself!
Paul Ryan - The Deficit? I Built That! (then lied about it)
I find it amusing that all the talking heads from MSNBC are on here this morning. They must have made you guys get up out of bed this morning to help protect the Messiah. I got a real charge last night when Andrea Mitchell tried to get Condi Rice in an interview with a bunch of got you questions. Mrs. Rice, as usual did not fall in her trap and made her look ridiculous and small. Then the brain thrust of Sharpton and Schultz (now those are a couple of fine reporters) tried to make Governor Scott Walker look bad and what happened was he outsmarted and put them in their respective places. I might add out-smarting these two was not difficult.
Bad night for the Libs! All the speecches were fantastic. Dont you guys wish you had Gov. Martinez and Mrs. Rice on your side?
Yo dogs...

Ryan continued the lie fest....and Romney will take it home with some of the biggest lies.
Hey Romney....going to mention Bain....seems it is a dirty 4 letter word to the campaign.
Hey Romney....going to talk about Romneycare being the template for ACA...with mandatory healthcare insurance?
Hey Romney....going to talk about borrowing 1.3 B from federal government to save the SLC Olympics.....you did not "build it".
Hey Romney....going to talk about Mass....the state you left with being 47th in job creation....and who did not elect you to a 2nd term?
Hey Romney...going to talk about taxes....when you won't release a full tax return, let alone several years worth?
Paul put you to sleep last night almost as fast as Willard does. What a boring speech, nothing new just more lies and hate for President Obama, vary poorly presented. Do you republicans have anybody that can deliver a speech? Huckabee was so scared and nervous he could hardly speak or maybe he's got a health problem, he was having trouble breathing.
The fact that Ryan's speech contained so many distortions and outright lies shows that he's he's just another sleazy politician. (But we all knew that before he ever spoke.)
Newspeak is a fictional language in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the novel, it refers to the deliberately impoverished language promoted by the state. Orwell explained the basic principles of the language in an essay included as an appendix to the novel.
Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar.
The totalitarian aim of the Party is to prevent any alternative thinking — "thoughtcrime", or "crimethink" in the newest edition of Newspeak – by destroying any vocabulary that expresses such concepts as freedom, free enquiry, individualism, resistance to the authority of the state and so on.
One character, Syme, says admiringly of the diminishing scope of the new language: "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."
The Newspeak term for the English language is Oldspeak. The Party intends to replace Oldspeak completely with Newspeak before 2050 (except among the Proles, who are not trained in Newspeak and whom the Party regards as barely human).
Worth reading no matter whose side you're taking in this election...

Romney is a pathological liar. He is mentally incapable of telling the truth.
The rereg is back. Report him to moderators.
Ever notice what a funny hairline Paul Ryan has? Lots of older guys pull all the hair forward to cover up a receding hairline. He's too young for that. Does it cover up the 3 sixes maybe?
MSNBC's coverage of the RNC last night was so Bush-league. I had to flip away and tuned into CNN for a more respectable non-partisan analysis. I mean seriously, other than the fact that my theory was disproved that Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes are actually the same person, nothing from this motley crew surprised me.
Tingles Matthews? Al Sharpton? Ed??? I thought surely MSNBC had learned their lesson from the Tingles/Olbermann/Maddow grade school spectacle of a couple of years ago, but clearly the circus was in town again.
Well, TexasT, if you're so concerned with the the coverage by MSNBC, why don't you just run your mouth over on their blogs? This is firstread.nbcnews. I'm sure Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Ed Shultz , Al Sharpton and Chris Matthews will give you all the attention you deserve. Go ahead, ask them. ;-)
Obama/Biden 2012!
I predict that Mitt Romney will tell us how terrible the economy is and how he can magically fix it by repealing environmental and financial regulations and by lowering taxes on corporations and high income individuals.
I predict Mitt will spew a bunch of lies.
I predict that if all Mitt did was stand up and say "Thank You" there would be a whole bunch of liberal sycophants saying that it was a lie.
