In a convention with few reminders of the 2012 Republican primary just a few months ago, Rick Santorum brought everyone back.
The former Pennsylvania senator delivered a somber speech that was more about his personal story than a ringing endorsement of Mitt Romney. It hit on many of the same themes he pushed while pursuing his longshot presidential bid, including family values, marriage and abortion.
Addressing the Republican National Convention, Former Senator Rick Santorum broke from the recurring theme of criticising President Barrack Obama's fiscal policies to emphasize social issues.
In fact, even though Santorum was the first speaker to raise the welfare issue, his allusion to abortion was the best-received line of his speech.
“I thank God that America still has one party that reaches out their hands in love to lift up all of God’s children -- born and unborn -- and says that each of us has dignity and all of us have the right to live the American Dream,” Santorum said to a standing ovation.
On welfare, Santorum, who touted his work on welfare reform in the 1990s, accused the president of trying to “weaken our republic” and acting as if he were “above the law.”
“President Obama’s policies undermine the traditional family, weaken the education system,” Santorum said. “And this summer he showed us once again he believes in government handouts and dependency by waiving the work requirement for welfare.
“I helped write welfare reform; we made the law crystal clear -- no president can waive the work requirement. But as with his refusal to enforce our immigration laws, President Obama rules like he is above the law. America take heed, when a president can simply give a speech or write a memo and change the law to do what the law says he can’t, we weaken our republic.”
Of course, the welfare attack has been widely discredited, and there is still a work requirement for welfare. There also was limited crowd reaction to the attack, which has become a mainstay of the Romney campaign on the trail and in millions of dollars in television ads.

Saywhat,
Why are there clown LIBIOTS that take Romney's words out of context and LIE about things. I could individually go through each of your "quotes" and destroy your LIES, but you know.
Also, I could give you a massive amount of times when I could take OBAMA's "quotes" and make him look like part of Muslim Brotherhood and clown LIBIOTS would quickly point out context.
Hey, I've got an IDEA...Let's compare LIES that Obama has made...I'll post that ahead.
Here's a good analysis of the nuts who wrote the GOP platform:

mormons take care of other mormons. if your not a mormon expect nothing from mitt. Do we really want a lieing morman as president. to the christian right maybe he can legalize polygamy or make it easier for companys to hire applicants with morman as their chosen religion. mormans dont care about traditional christianity they only care about furthering morman principals. so to the religous right go ahead and vote against your principles maybe your children can grow up to be good little mormans.
Yeah we get it Paul, Mormons are out. So tell us: which religions would be allowed to be President, if Democrats like you get their way?
Kannin...
None that you would belong to, idiot.
Well, let's see ... I would belong to any of the Judeo-Christian religions; I would be a Buddhist; I would be a Pagan or Wiccan. So I guess that the only religion that you find acceptable for the Presidency is ... Islam!
Figures.
Republicans just cannot stop themselves from lying. It is sick that they continue to lie, lie, and lie.
Don't forget, folks. This numb-skull reps the party that chose Herman Cain, who wouldn't give a woman an even game, as their top Ambassador of the Republican Party, their party's face. Cain brought the Repub party down in flames. Now this party comes up with Howdy Doody (Mitt) and Mortimer Snurd (Ryan) as a distant second-string team? Guess after the Cain fiasco nobody wanted the gig. Especially Ryan, guess he got drafted to take a hit for the team. America needs more than a second-string team and these two clowns ain't it! These two are members of the very same folks they say they're against. Bull$hit! Howdy and Mortimer represent America's worst enemies to what's left of the working class! I've got more foreign-policy experience than these two first-string rejects combined! Sorry Repubs, not this time! They'd have to bring back Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove to give their party a spine if elected. YIKES!! I'll put my vote elsewhere, thank-you!
Boehner: "There will be a New Rule for the GOP Convention: When GOP Leaders announce new rules, a Voice Vote of "Sieg Heil" will be the ONLY acceptable response. Agreed?"
Crowd: "Sieg Heil!" "Sieg Heil!"
and way far far back in the rear of the convention
Herman Cain shouts: "Nein! Nein! Nein!"
Bruce, Boehner is the only guy in the world who can look into any reflective surface and his image gives him the bird!
ROTFLMAO!!!! You are GOOD cruddola!!!!
So Rick Santorum says that if I graduated high school (check, don't forget the master degree), work hard (check) and get married before I have children (um, the republicans don't want me to get married) the chances of me living in poverty is "just" 2%. Yet, if I don't do these three things (legally cant, sorry Rick), I am 38% more likely to end up in poverty. Hmmm, this begs the question... I have the degrees, I have the job that I work my butt off for, and want to get married some day, so tell me why I cannot meet your stupid standards of which you define as "family values" and being a "good citizen? PS... I am not living in poverty!
~Rick Santorum on Mitt Romney, campaign event in Tennessee, February 2012
'Of course, the welfare attack has been widely discredited'...of course. Once again Repblicans show they believe they only need say it...for it to be true.
oh by the way i cant stand that ugly lieing ann romney
Paul, I'm willing to bet that when Ann was breaching at birth the Obstetrician asked for a bedpan!!
I am a second-string draftee to a failed Herman Cain campaign. I know better but am only driven to making a profit for myself and others like me. I am a designated-hitter against the working-class American. I am a proved thief and liar. I take credit for things I never wanted to do. I see no profit in righting wrongs so I won't do it. I'm Mitt Romney, and I am a Mormon!
cruddola, you should put that on YouTube. Great!
Bruce, have at it youself, you have my permission, you'd be better at it anyhow!! Go for it, dude!
Santorum: "I thank God that America still has one party that reaches out their hands in love to lift up all of God's children" except when they need public assistance even though they want to force people to have children they are not ready to have. And before people that never made a mistake in their lives start giving their vile comments; yes, some people do make mistakes.
Rick Santorum and the other "personhood nuts" need the stay out of other people person affairs...they want to use government to mandate their beliefs...this includes Romney and Ryan
i knew it, i just knew it. after watching the tapes of christie and romney's wife, i thought at first there'd be no harm in also watching the one of santorum. i should have quit while i was ahead. i knew the republicans could not go through one day without one of them assaulting us with the usual LIES, bigotry, racism, xenophobia, self-righteousness and hate-mongering, (not to mention a little self-glorifying sob-story-telling.) i just knew it. but i had to go and spoil my day anyhow. :::sigh::: serves me right for trying to keep an open mind. keep your mind open around these folks and the only thing they dump into it is SEWERAGE!

Here is my research from ww. presidentialdebt. org
OBAMA 3 years - 5T (16077.17/citizen/year with 311 million citizens
Bush Jr 8 years - 4T
Clinton 8 years - 1.5T
Bush Sr 4 years - 1.5T
Reagan 8 Years - 1.6T
Carter 4 years - 1T
Per result of 3 years of 5T deficit - A family of 4 can receive $64k per year for 3 years (not counting the 4th year)
to pay for their mortgage, student loan, food, medical etc. Do you think you deserve the 16k per year? If no, why not?
Why are you omitting the cost of Iraq? $2T
Why are you omtting the cost of Afghanistan? $2T
Why are you omitting the Medicaid Drug? $1.5T
That does total $5.5T, right? If Bush only had $4T....where did you assign those wars and drug plan???
Hey gang! We really need to get started on the Repeal of the 22nd Amendment, so President Obama can run for a third term.
In reality someone needs to be stepping up so they will make a suitable candidate when Obama can't run anymore. We don't really want someone to be in office that we can't get out. We have had that with mayor and governor here at times. Just like the republicans with their goofy candidates the Democrats have had their share. This should be the cream of the crop not the rich popping up and saying let me run let me show my stupidity.
Everybody take a deep breath and relax. Mitt Romney will not win the presidency. Take it from me, this will be his grand finale chasing an illusive dream to be president. When Mitt loses in November, he would have gotten the message that it is worthless wasting money for eight years campaigning. Being president is not an entitlement, as Mitt seems to think. After the election, people will be commenting that his choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate played a part in the loss. One other factor to be remembered is that the health-care legislation that the supreme court ruled as being constitutional was an indication that Obama will be elected for a second term. Things happen in uncanny ways. Only the wise with proper intuition are able to see the true picture.
Ironically I saw on a Romney documentary supporting him it was pointed out healthcare was his primo accomplishment and was a REPUBLICAN IDEA COMPLETE with the MANDATE that everyone has to buy it which is why they took it to the supreme court. I have noticed everything was a republican idea including education, responsibility and accountability until Obama suggested it. Now it is something we just can't do. I really hope and pray for the sake of our country that Romney is not elected and that Ryan has to get out of the house because we don't need him there. There are certain times when something comes up and I say that's it this person won't be president like when HIllary made the sniper comment. When Kerry looked over an audience and said no there is noone here that makes over 200,000 and when he was mking himself orange. Several times I have thought that about Romney. One trip overseas should have convinced a multitude. What do they think he would do as president. In his total ineptness he manages to insult everyone. I don't care if he is republican or democrat he is inept at everything he does except apparently making money. So maybe he should run for treasurer of the US? Now I could handle that. As long as he watched who he bankrupted. No changed my mind don't want him to even do that. Maybe dogcatcher. No cant do that either. Real estate person. Ahhhh!
the irony is that romney is a man who DOES NOT WANT to be president. and he hasn't wanted to BE such ... for a long, long time. and for a longer time still, he hasn't been a real republican...nor has he striven to be so. this has been evident for so many years now, especially recently, after he finally got paid enough by his new owners to step unto the primary stage, that i find it incredible that no one has yet noticed. even now, none of you recognizes any of the mistakes in this campaign for what they really have been! lolol <--- (that's me, sharing his last laugh on you.)
What is the difference between Mitt Romney and a leech?
One is an ugly, slimy, disgusting, blood-sucking creature, and
the other is a harmless, earth-worm like animal.
When I see these speeches and hear these lies I go bonkers. Do they think people have been asleep. Obama wants to wreck the educational system? Why that snob. Wait a minute that is what Santorum said you were when Obama suggested people go to college. President Obama knows that in order to get out of poverty and support yourself you need to be responsible, accountable and educated. People who pretend to be something they aren't like Santorum get up and say Obama says the opposite and they are ones who are trying to stifle education since you become snobs if you are educated. I guess Santorum is a good example of that. And also President Obama knows you can't have child after child when you are trying to support yourself or your family so you can use the God provided blessing of birth control. If you are wealthy when your wife doesn't have to work and maybe you don't either you can have endless hours to do what you want but I don't know too many who have 15 or 20 children. Why do these rich snobs have so much trouble accepting the fact that President Obama knows exactly what people have to do to get out of poverty. One thing if you recall is to become involved parents and have the children turn off the tv. Why do these hateful people turn things around and try to say that Obama says the opposite which is what they are saying. Remember hateful Gingrich and all the hate he spews while being the cheerful candidate. Right. Remember the poor children should clean therich peoples bathrooms so they earn a work ethic. How do rich people earn their work ethic. They don't need to cause they're rich off of someone else who worked money? From what I see rich people are just as lazy if not lazier than poor people. The only difference is they think they can dictate what the poor people do. And remember in the Bible it says Blessed are the poor and it is easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven. I guess ifyou listen to the hate they spew that is one reason why. President Obama knows what poor people need to do to succeed and I would like to know why some of the rich elite think they shouldn't do it.
To all the misinformed haters out there who are willing to believe whatever gutless trype the rightwing radicals send their way I say God Bless President Obama and the United States of America. Thank God we have you in the presidency. Most of the things they say are pure unadulterated lies and they have to know it. At least some like Karl Rove, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh do. They have to be laughing like hyenas on the way to the bank. But when they are on the way to heaven or wherever, I doubt that they will be giggling too much will they. God hates lies, striving to do evil and bringing harmony among the brethren. Not dislikes. Hates.
That was supposed to be bringing disharmony to the brethen.
BS- The Santorums of the world don't reach out their hands in love or much of anything else to the "born." They are full of "love" for the "unborn" and once born hand it and the vessel that bore it over to the welfare system that they want to eliminate - and spend massive amounts of time castigating and demonizing.
wow...............his wife perfectly discribed president obama. n.j. gov. could not have represented obama values more articulately. i hope..."" the obama man"" heard all the praise he recieved in those speeches.
Didn't hear them. Cant stand their constant lies. Somehow I don't think Christie or Ann would be portraying Obama in too good a light. They don't want to get booed. Although they do manage once in a while. New idea. Romney for real estate Agent. Obama for President 2012!Both will be a success.
Since when do the American people need to hear the 'Hard Truths'... sounds like some more of that 'austerity' and 'shared responsibility' propaganda.
'Hard Truths' are what politicians and their financial supporters need to hear from American Citizens. We, the people, did not cause all these problems. We are the victims of a corrupted oppressive government and it's self-serving and self-perpetuating policies. Control of our government has been hijacked by the 'Washington Establishment', both Democrats and Republicans.
We need to regain control of our government.
Actually that is wrong, "we the people" keep voting in the same crooks, crooks that have been getting elected for 30years in a row, it is the fault of the people, the system doesnt help, but the people dont have to keep electing thieves like pelosi.
I agree. It is entirely preposterous to believe that only Republicans rip-off the average citizen. Dems are on the receiving end as well.
But - our system is rigged so that a third party can't even get a foot in the door....which means the existing parties aren't about to let anyone else in the parade.
And while we are at it - let's get rid of the antiquated electoral college 'thing'. It's purpose and usefulness vanished many, many years ago.
Well, it seems at least 4 of us are in agreement to the problem of the establishment.
Where there are 4, I'm willing to bet there are at least 4 more.
We can facilitate change, but if the establishment convinces you otherwise, they win.
Speaking of defecits, how about a defecit in character? These GOPers have proven that they will say and do anything to get elected, and if elected, will say and do anything to rob you of your future.
