TAMPA, Fla. -- Ron Paul's appearance Tuesday on the floor of the Republican National Convention evoked split conventions of the past as the retiring Texas congressman received a hero's welcome from supporters.
The former two-time GOP presidential candidate walked out to greet a roaring group of supporters from the Nevada delegation, one of several he won during the detailed process of allocating delegates to this convention.
When asked by NBC News what he hoped to accomplish by visiting the floor, Paul said, "Just saying hi to some friends from Nevada."
Paul supporters started chanted, "Let Him Speak!" When Romney supporters started chanting "Romney, Romney!" Paul backers screamed "Ron Paul! Ron Paul," drowning out the delegates pledged to the Republican nominee-in-waiting.
After posing for pictures and signing some autographs, Paul left the floor ahead of the official start of the session. The convention will feature a video tribute to Paul, and his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, will address delegates this week.

frank, I think we're all saying the same thing. It was the worst selection of candidates I recall.
It is discouraging to see how the carpet bombing with ads worked for Mitt in the primaries. His party and our country was not well-served by the process. I remember those ads years ago---"tastes great v. less filling" for some beer. This is a similar debate-----how bad the field was v. how much money Mitt spent to win.
Romney bought the primaries. Now he is saying not only who gets to speak, but who delegates get to vote for.
This is what happens when you let someone buy an election.

Public vote counts held in secret, entire counties of votes thrown out, police used as thugs to break bones and arrest duly-elected Paul delegates, SWAT team called-in in Missouri, Romney staffers passing out fake Paul delegate lists in Nevada (and other states), convention chairmen (and women) running off with the ballot box, chairmen electing delegates in locked back rooms, Romney directing the RNC while Paul is still a candidate, rules changed and/or broken, and now delegates simply disqualified for no valid reason. Paul didn't lose. Romney cheated at every single stage!

I suggest you read and try to comprehend two of Ron Paul's moronic proposals - his "Marriage Protection Act" which would deny gays the right of due process to challenge DOMA, and his "We the People Act" which would deny equal protection to gays, remove the right to sexual privacy for everyone, and allow the state in your bedroom. It also would allow the states to return to theocracy and let them deny your right to religious liberty. Ron Paul's gullible supporters seem to be completely unfamiliar with the legislation he's actually proposed. If Ron Paul truly supported personal liberty and truly supported state's rights, he wouldn't support DOMA.

Libertarianism has a fundamental flaw: it is based on the assumption that each person is a rational agent living in a homogeneous society and functioning in a free market economy. We are highly emotional beings living in a diverse and heirarchical society and functioning in a corporate oligarchy requiring division of labor.
As far as the gold standard goes: (1) China as the primary debtor of America would empty Fort Knox of all America's gold reserves, and (2) China is the largest producer of gold in the world. Where would America get her gold to back her currency? Gold standard = bad idea. It doesn't work economically either.
This election is a choice between two visions for the future of America: One vision is for continuation of the progressive vision of a balance between equality and freedom as the moral foundation of justice, and a more recent conservative vision of an entitlement due the wealthy and the equivalence of corporations to the rights and protections of natural persons under the Constitution.
A progressive future is one in which government is a custodian of the public trust and advocates for justice; where justice is a balance between equality and freedom. Government as a custodian of the public trust means that everyone plays by the same rules and that everyone is equal before the law. Public trust means the rights of the people to preserve and protect the common property of the United States is not severable to the interests of privatization. Public trust means that a corporation has no rights except those given to it by law and does not have equal standing with a natural born person under the Constitution.
The conservative future is one of a hostile corporate takeover with privatization of government functions. The corporate takeover means that having wealth is an effective barrier to others participating in the process of government. It means that government would no longer serve the interests of the community but collaborate with the wealthy corporate owners to establish a separate set of laws that entitle them to preferential treatment while creating barriers to competition by eliminating opportunities for others.
The free market is a myth: if it isn't regulated by government to prevent fraud, it is regulated by the corporate oligarchy to prevent competition. Free means not having to go to jail for fraud and theft.
Freedom of speech for corporations is a political myth: the right to free speech is a right of the natural born person, not an artifact of legal convention.
The conservative options for health care are no birth control, no abortion and no health insurance unapproved by a corporate CEO. The progressive option is universal health care and the right of women to make their own health decisions.
This election is about protecting the American value of living according to one's conscience, as opposed to having a religious elite create intrusive bureaucratic regulations supporting their sectarian religious doctrine.
This election is about education for citizenship, not choice for a privileged elite who don't want to associate with the classes below them.
This election is about living in fear, or finding a means to reducing the violence that haunts personal security.
This election is about who gets to rewrite the tax laws: a privileged elite who personally benefits from tax entitlements to the wealthy, or one who advocates for tax fairness.
This election is about who gets to nominate justices to the Supreme Court: pack a court with conservative judicial activists who want to roll back human rights, or one who advocates for judicial competence.
This election is a moral choice between affiliation or aggression, empathy or egotism, service or selfishness, cooperation or competitiveness.
The tale of two visions is the difference between a government of the people, by the people and for the people, and a government run by a plutocracy of wealth and corporate power.
Maybe this is simply a convention of wackos. They can't get enough main stream Republicans, what few they are, to speak so they invite a Libertarian, one who was not complimentary to any of the candidates during the primaries but they realize that he can stir up trouble and that his small but vocal followers can disrupt their party so they let the old boy blather on and on.

Think of it this way. You are a government and have no money in circulation. You go to the bank and borrow 1 billion dollars @ 6% interest, intererst payments only with a lump sum payment do in 40 years. Here is the problem, you will never be able to pay me back, NEVER!
