Although the gathered delegates tonight will nominate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan -- during the roll call vote -- they won’t become the official nominees until they deliver their acceptance speeches, according to Republican officials.
So for Romney, he doesn’t become the official nominee -- and can’t start spending his money earmarked for the general election -- until Thursday.

Come Thursday... let the industrial strength lyin' begin! Lovely...
Poor "MYTH" Romney the hurricane is dominating his lying acceptance speech.
Hey, MYTH" no one cares to hear your damn lies except your brain dead bigoted raucous fools. All Americans are not stupid and don't want your bill of sales. Stop your war on women and divisive tacits.

Obama/Biden2012
So, on Thursday, the speech by Queen Ann will indeed have 'humanized' him?
Willard wants the job, and he's using his spouse as the chief reference to make folks like him! He's her spouse, so that's just great that she thinks he's great.......
Nepotism is illegal......Queen Ann, you are not allowed to be the 'humanizer'!
This is your last chance Robney. Tell your fellow klansmen that you don't want Ryan. Just tell 'em you used your magic Etch-A-Sketch and have decided to have a woman or a person other than a Caucasian as your running mate.
Absurd? YES. Robney and the GNOP would have no part of women or minorities anywhere near the White House if they could find a way to do so. Not to mention a senior. What a pathetic group the GOP has become.
Obama/Biden 2012
You keep believing that racist Bev. Keep believing that Mitt doesn't have the ear of the majority of this country... I can tell you this, Obama doesn't have the ear of the country any more. There's no magic left in his lies... only the super stupid and mindless idiots want Obama to serve 4 more destructive years as president. It's a really good thing this country has more smart people than it does stupid. I can tell who the stupid people are by their support. I can see it here, everyday.
So, the Republican Party still has a couple of days to clone a real Republican like Eisenhower to become their candidate? It's worth a shot to keep the GOP from being saddled with a loser like Willard.
Its not too late, Republican Party, you can still choose a real candidate.
Of course, that would require thinking, you know, using the brains in your head.
ZOMBIES for ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 !!!!!
and he doesn't become human until Geppetto makes a wish.
"So for Romney, he doesn’t become the official nominee -- and can’t start spending his money earmarked for the general election -- until Thursday."
What a shame. Well, hopefully those Super PACs can cough up a few more bucks to tide him over until then.....
yeah are these the same Super PACs Obama can also benefit from? Or is this just more Obama is the poor underdog so just vote for him. He can't lead, he can't accomplish and you want to give him 4 more? You guys have so many excuses why Poor Obama is struggling or can't raise enough.
Obama has more problems than raising money... he can't raise confidence. All the polling taking place adds democrats to Obama's side to even out the results. Of course that's the media's response to Obama's failed policies governing this country. They need to keep Obama even in order to say he has Romney on the run... Like hell! Liberals fall for it every time. They actually think Obama has a chance at winning... If that's the case why stack the polls in Obama's favor?
Brian,
Stacking the polls in our Presidents favor would, in fact, cause Dems to become disinterested thus not working as hard to GOTV and stay home on Election Day and just the opposite effect for Romney supporters.
So the Democrat oversampling polls are just trying to help Romney win ... Right?
Dennis I believe it is called spin.
For the record, I'm for outlawing ALL Super Pacs - or at the very least, having much fuller disclosure of whose money is behind them and what their actual agneda is - not that teensy fine print at the bottom of the ads. What do you say, BrianB - are you in? Or are they okay for one side but not for the other?
And hey, speaking of records, CA, you'd better pick up the pace a little bit if you're going to try and break that single day record of 111 meaningless posts that you set yesterday.....all the while complaining that OTHER people need to get a job. Or a life. Why, if we didn't know any better, we'd think you were a paid employee here!
Dennis - The Obama campaign is becoming desperate. The media has Obama's back... if you can't see that then you are blindfolded... or you are in complete support of it. Obama feels he needs 100% of the media to win because he has NO record. With unemployment officially at 8.3% and unofficially at 19.9% Obama doesn't stand a chance... In modern history, no incumbent has EVER won re-election with an unemployment rate above 7.2% and Obama knows this. Combine that with the additional $5.7 trillion in national debt, the loss of our credit rating and a GDP of 1.5%, you tell me what Obama has... His charm, his good looks, his beautiful wife (cough)... For all the bluster that Obama is going to win, the numbers do not support it.
I wish i was paid by NBC or any other news site. 111 meaningless posts? they had to mean something to someone. Perhpas not you but well Im not upset or surprised. But we do agree on getting rid of super pacs, unfortunately the whole SC ruling and 1st amendment gets in the way right? You know what, i dont listen to the ads. from either side. And while both sides piss money away and you complain its one sided, it's no skin off my nose.
Joanne - Personally I don't care if Super PAC's were outlawed. As far as full disclosure... I'm all in. I'd love to find out what Super PAC's support Obama and what their agenda is... that would tickle my fancy... might make for some interesting posts on here with spelling out the muscle behind the money in support of Obama.
Obama isn't the one bribing the billionaires club with proposed tax cuts for the rich. Romney is.
We lost nearly 800,000 jobs during Bush's last month in office. Bush left him with a budget deficit of $1.4 trillion. The auto industry was on the verge of failing taking another million jobs with them. We were in two different wars. Home prices were plummeting, so that backbone of bush economic growth, the home equity loan, was gone. The stock market was tanking hitting a low of 6500. Most experts said it would take years for our economy to recover from such a widespread financial system failure.
So, most honest, unbiased people who know the facts will see that we are way better off now, but we still have a ways to go. The progress our economy has made is excellent considering how deep we were in the hole in January 2009. Perspective is important in judging success. As Ronald Reagan put it "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago. The banking industry is, the stock market is , the job market is, the auto industry is, the housing market is, I am. I think we all are. The doomsday scenarios are no longer talked about like they were 4 years ago. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I believe Pres. Obama should continue to led the way.
Brian,
I was just pointing out how flawed your logic is.
JoAnne---since Mitt can't start spending money til Thursday, maybe tomorrow he can go to Costco and check out their shirts---he'll need a lot of them for the fall campaign. I got a lovely fall wreath there over the weekend---he could buy 8 for his homes.
Dennis - And I was countering it. Democrats will not be voting in droves like they were in 08, but it's not because the media isn't in Obama's corner. I actually believe a lot of democrats have lost their excitement over Obama... and that's strictly Obama's fault. So many democrats were thinking Obama was going to pay their house notes... car notes... and their expenses... Don't ask me where they got that idea from, but when it didn't happen, they lost their illusion. I guess if Obama would have invested a couple of trillion more in paying all these peoples bills, he would be a total shoe in...
shaak332 said: Obama should continue to led the way.
In reading your post shaak, I can tell you aren't very bright. You aren't up on any of the economic indicators and basing your entire support on the stock market is futile. Tell me shaak, what is the GDP right now... what is the unemployment rate... real rate, not the government rate... what is the national debt and how much has been added in the past 4 years... what is the current deficit? Who's in charge of these things? Remember, Bush is no longer president... That's why I say you aren't very bright.
Almost like a little wedding ceremony ... once they exchange "vows" they'll be pronounced
man and wifewannabe-1 and wannabe-2. Hope nobody gets cold feet!Ursula - You can be assured nobody will get cold feet. There's a movement in this country to remove Obama from office... can't you feel it? Can't you sense it? Come on Ursula... breathe deeply... take a pause... feel the vibes... Your little circle of liberal friends here will deceive you... they will tell you that movement is non-existent. But.... it's undeniable... the unemployment rate doesn't lie... the national debt doesn't lie... It's only Obama that lies about the significance of these two most important economic issues.
You mean the same national debt that Romney's proposals will increase?
At least the bride and groom normally don't hold their noses while supporting each other. That is exactly what is happening in Tennessee, not one single person running for republican office has anything to say (good or bad) about R & R. In all fairness, the democrats are not touting President Obama either, but normally the repugs hang on to those coatails super tight - not this year, they know the white elephant in the room is the fact that mitt is a mormon and in the south that is not a good thing to be - considering all their votes are dominated by the southern Baptist convention, who has for decades preached on the evils of mormons.
Do you suppose they'll have to consummate?
Brianb, I'm breathing just fine and I do believe the Republicans are fired up and ready to fire President Obama, but your doom and gloom talking points won't rally enough people to put Romney over the 50% mark. There are not enough old, white males to win the day single-handedly.
Xabre
LOL.. no the one that Obama's continues to increase.
So tell me, how does having large tax cuts accompanied by smaller spending cuts decrease the deficit, as Romney thinks it will?
But you see Ursula... it doesn't take a plurality to allow a candidate to win. You may deny the statistics, but unfortunately they aren't in Obama's favor... in fact they are completely against Obama. I know you support him with all your heart... and that's truly sad, because when you put this much of your being into a political candidate, when that candidate loses, your heart becomes broken... I'm concerned about you Ursula... I'm concerned that your world may come crashing down on you... see I am a conservative and I have a huge amount of compassion....
On the other hand... if we don't have to endure another 4 years of economic destruction, I'll be jumping for joy.
Heh, you think Romney's plan of trickle-down economics doesn't classify as "economic destruction"?
Xabre - You are asking questions that are totally hypothetical. You don't know that Romney will support lowering taxes... and if he does.. wouldn't that make you a little more enriched? Let's take away the current tax cuts. Lets see how much more you have taken out of your paycheck... that is if you get one... With food going up.. gasoline creeping above $4 a gallon... I'm sure the extra taxes you will be paying will tickle you pink...
Hard to believe that liberals complain when the government takes less taxes from their paychecks but relish the idea of them taking more... amazing!
Ursula,
I could have gone all year without THAT imagery. Thanks!
Here's you opportunity Repubs, last chance ... Dr Paul? C'mon you guys can do it. He's just as crazy but at least he doesn't lie. Whoops, I forgot, you only hate liars if they are Commie Kenyan Muslims.
No bcwc - Paul may not lie... but he's bat@!$%# crazy.
Brianb-999431
Add in the likes of Rand Paul, Bachman , Akin, couple of dozen birthers etc. and the GOP is swarming with bat@!$%# crazy. If Romney wins he will need Dems just to steer a straight course.
bcwc so let me guess Peloski, Reid, Boxer, Waters and a couple dozen religious bigots are just the pillar of sanity?
Caegar, the religious bigots are on the blue team, try reading their posts. Don't know Waters or Reid but I have met the other two and they are very sane. I also have met Napolitano ... very crazy, if you want to start a real list, begin with her.
that's what i said. You think Reid is a repub? need to get out of the litter box more often
I rarely bother to correct but this is a major exception ... the religious bigots are on the
bluered team,"Even President Obama’s biggest fans don’t think he can make it rain — but Rush Limbaugh does.
On his radio show this afternoon, Limbaugh suggested that President Obama might have personally tampered with the Hurricane Center’s prediction models for the path of Hurricane Isaac, with the hopes that it would force the GOP to delay or cancel its convention in Tampa, Florida this week. Walking his audience through the timeline of events leading to the Republicans delaying their convention by a day, Limbaugh launched into a conspiracy theory, all the while denying that he was suggesting anything by it: “And I noticed that the hurricane center’s track is — and I’m not alleging conspiracies here. The hurricane center is the regime; the hurricane center is the Commerce Department”:
It’s the government. It’s Obama.
And I’m noticing that that track stayed zeroed in on Tampa day after day after day. And the Republicans react to it accordingly over the weekend, canceling the first day of the convention. What could be better for the Democrats than the Republicans to cancel a day of this? [...]
Okay, 6:45 p.m. Saturday night the Republicans announce that they’re canceling Monday. At 6:45 p.m. Saturday night, everybody is still under the impression that Isaac is making a beeline for very close to Tampa. It was an hour and 15 minutes later that the eight p.m. model runs showed New Orleans. I’m alleging no conspiracy. I’m just telling you, folks, when you put this all together in this timeline, I’m telling you, it’s unbelievable. "
http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/08/27/752491/limbaugh-hurricane-isaac/
Yep, totally unbelievable.....kinda like pretty much everything else Limbaugh has ever said. And yet even as we speak, the geniuses who listen to him every day are out there forwarding those sensational e-mails around to spread the "fact" that President Obama was responsible for the GOP cancelling the first day of the convention .....exactly like Limbaugh intended them to do all along.
Not that I'm alleging any conspiracy either, of course.....
JoAnne, amazing that in this day and age of technology where you can get a fact as fast as it takes to type something into Google, so many people refuse to do so and just spew garbage! I can't even type the name Limbaugh without wanting to hurl something. You just can't make this stuff up!
Layton, I think that's our problem - we tend to prefer facts over obviously partisan conspiracy theories. Anyone with an ounce of intellectual curiosity would hear something goofy like this Limbaugh crap and take a minute to verify it for themselves. I did that twice last week when people attributed quotes to Mitt Romney that I thought sounded too "out there" to be true - and it turned out that they weren't. So I didn't - and won't - repeat them. But the right wing seems to believe that the faster you spread a lie, the truer it becomes.
By the way, I can honestly say that since the advent of chain e-mails, I have never gotten a single one from any of my liberal friends spreading rumors and/or deliberate lies about any conservative politician - we just don't seem to get our information that way. But I get goofy birther/socialist/death panels/flag pin/college transcripts/"Michelle-is-personally-making-french-fries-illegal!" stuff from a friend of my Mom's at least a couple times a month - even though she knows I'm a Democrat and I've asked her to take me off her list.
Go figure.....
JoAnne---at least Rush is alleging that President Obama sabotaged the GOP convention using his office to influence the tracking reports. Unlike the GOP, who tried to sabotage the President's acceptance speech 4 years ago by praying for rain. I'll take Chicago-style hardball politics over rightwing praying any day!
I would say it is the dumb leading dumber.....
GNOP can't accept facts. THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Show us the 1040's Mythe..What ARE you hiding!?
Say republicans and teabaggers? That means that there is still time to nominate Failin' Palin (R-Quitter, Whore). Better hurry.
Shhhh, don't tell Mitt, he thinks he's already in the office.
How will he react when, once again, he is passed over and must call Obama and concede the election?
He's expecting that, I'm sure. The problem is that his drooling followers are not.
