Presumptive Republican Mitt Romney today has called the three (all GOP) governors in the storm's path.
"Gov. Romney has spoken with Govs. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Phil Bryant of Mississippi and Robert Bentley of Alabama about the impending storm and their local response efforts," a senior Romney aide told NBC News.
Republicans are going to kick off their delayed first day of their convention today. Romney will be officially nominated later this afternoon. But he will not officially be the nominee until Thursday when he accepts.

Willard, shut up, stop grandstanding, get out of the way and let the first responders do their job!
First, he ask if there were in butlers around to make the calls for him, Then, he threw a fit about having to do everything himself.
Life must be he!! on the road with no servants. (in sight) :)
Al, I think you meant to tell Obama to get out of the way and let someone that understand leadership take control. LMAO
If Obama had any respect for America he would drop out of the race. Obama only cares about himself though, and America is secondary.
I'm sure Romney strongly reminded them that a 'local response' was the only help they would be getting. During last years tornado swarms, Cantor and McConnell publicly announced that federal funds are not available for disaster aid/relief.
Hey, it's RedSuxFool! I can't read his posts anymore. as I've placed him on the Ignore-Rant list.
It's hard to take somebody seriously who thinks a 62-67 team in 4th place and 12.5 games behind "rules".
Should be interesting to watch the Pussy from Jersey tonight. I remember guys like him in high school. Bullies with no intellect. All it took was one swift kick in their fat A$$ and they went whining home to mama.
then why post this? what an idiot.
Kind of reminds me of that pantywaiste preppy from Boston taking the nomination.
Particulary after trading Adrian Gonzales for James Loney. Enjoy the cellar Sux fan.
Since when does a presidential nominee make such phone calls? McCain certainly did not do that in 2008. It is the current administration's job, whatever the party, to take speak with governors, mayors, to monitor their needs and let them know to call with whatever problems they encounter. What can Mitt Romney do? Nothing, absolutely nothing. What a waste of those Governor's time for Romney to call and ask how's it going, guys?
Mitt is just getting the talking points straight. I don't know why I don't trust him. Maybe its all the lies and the cold hearted calculations he has made to determine electorally where he stands on an issue.

Willard, shut up, stop grandstanding, get out of the way and let the first responders do their job!
Al,
"MYTH" Romney is too busy politicizing.

Jindal Says Obama’s Storm Funding Falls Short of State’s Needs

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
How 'bout another lying Republican politicizing? Oh did I mention Gov Jindal is getting that free social government funding; rather than taking care of the state’s needs without federal interference?
So, Willard called the Governors ......What did he say?
Its a plot to blame the huricane on the President. WTF is Mitt going to do? He could spend a few of his own dollars for the clean-up insted of the tax payers footing the bill for people that want government out of their lives.
He wanted to tell them all about Costco---they have these great shirts that they sell in 3 packs. Mitt even ironed his all by himself. When the cleanup after the storm gets underway, maybe people can shop there.
Gov. Romney has spoken with Govs. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Phil Bryant of Mississippi and Robert Bentley of Alabama about the impending storm and their local response efforts," a senior Romney aide told NBC News.
So he (romney) can go on the floor of the convention and tell everybody what the president is not doing, or is he going to give some of his own money to help, (Hell No)
that was a bull sh*t call from a Bull shi&&er!!!!
[Since when does a presidential nominee make such phone calls?]
Just another failed attempt to undermine the president. Mitt's gonna show that negro who's boss...right Mitt?
Yet, after all the phone calls, after all the feigned "support" by the GOP, they will continue their party while the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama drown.
See, Mitt...this is why you can never be president. We already had our "fiddler", G. W. Bush.
GOP: Screw You, I Got Mine!
Romney was heard advising the governors to strap their dogs to the roof of their cars. That way the dogs will probably stay above the waterline.
Otherwise, Romney has nothing of value to offer and no practical advice to give.
Maybe Jindal should have spent some money in improving LA's levees instead of building sand castles.

The Gulf Coast can't take another disaster, and we all pray that the storm will not create problems.
The area can't take another Obama mis-management happening as they did during the oil spill situation.
But I am certain the liberal media outlets for Obama will be showing the GOP convension on a split screen, with the hurrican on the second half of the screen as the Republican speakers speak.
THE PRESIDENT GOT 20 BILLION OUT OF BP ok,
stop inventing sh*t to complain about, after all the president did not cause the spill but in your mind i guess he didi!!!!
what a goof you are!!!!!
I thought Republicans were in favor of "State's Rights" and a smaller Federal government.
Gee, I guess when it comes to taking from the poor to give to the rich, its ok, right ?
How totally inappropriate for Romney to make the call to Governors. The man is out of his frickin mind. November can't come soon enough. We need to send the Romneys back to the Caymans or wherever they claim they're from this week!
Obama/Biden 2012
Is this the part where I'm supposed to be impressed with Willards brilliant leadership skills? lmfao!
His wife is making cookies and Willard's on the phone!
What a pair!
Excuse me while I gag.
Really?
Are we all Georgians now, too?
Faux Leadership Strikes again!
Did he offer them help out of his own pocket?
As impressed that Obama delivered a message today and once again HE was the hero.
Paraphrased, "Under my direction, I have instructed FEMA for the last week to take action from Puerto Rico to Louisiana".
Can't wait for the next tropical depression. A cat 1 storm is just another thunderstorm to the people I know in Florida.
It's always "I" with this guy. Never "After conferring with my advisory team, we........" What a narcissist.

Where's Obama, on the golf course? LMAO
Michelle must be busy planning a million dollar trip to Spain on the taxpayer dime.
Two arrogant losers, a match made in heaven. LMAO
Fisty, why are you such a racist?
The left is really off the reservation. Their cheese has done slid off their crackers.
This is more than a thunderstorm, having just gone through it for the past 48hrs, I can assure anyone who thinks it was, it most certainly wasn't.
And now it is far worse where its headed. New Orleans is extremely vulnerable and a lot of damage can be expected. These storms are extremely unpredictable as to their eventual path and some people think that being classified as a 1 it will be nothing, between tornadoes spawned and inches of driving rain it is far from nothing. Even thunderstorms can kill
That's a cheap shot coming from the I Built That crowd.
GM...how did you guys do in the north part of the county????
Cheap shot? More like flat-out hypocrisy.
hey Xabie, just earlier it was a tropical storm. and you were whining about that.
RSR, i was wondering why fisty wasnt over at the other racist article defending it. This is all cute deflection from reality today. Economy anyone? We know Xabie thinks tax returns and gay marriage and contraception should be the top of the list.
Because earlier, it was a tropical storm. Hurp.
and you were whining about it being only just a tropical storm.
But Obama is the "You didn't build that, you had help"crowd. Yet he espouses the "I built that " mantra. Oh I know, he's evolving. That's right. LMAO
FRank, there is a lot of flooding just west of us many roads and land under water. We lost our power three time in the past 36 hrs but each time we got it back within an hour or two. Schools are closed for the second day. It is nice out at the moment, but we have been warned to expect a lot more rain later this afternoon and with all the flooding, there is no where for anymore water to go. It is a huge storm being over 300 miles wide it spread well out into the Atlantic and very slow moving..bad combination. No damage to the house or cars, just a lot of yard and garden cleanup later. How about your end? I hope you and your family are safe.
Gingerbread Mamma
Here is were we agree 120%. These Hurricanes are nothing to joke about. Please stay safe.
So tell me, how does "instructing" somebody take help? Apparently issuing an order is a multi-party affair?
GM...glad all is okay up there. Kids are enjoying the day off down here. I had some water damage in the back of the house and my lake threatened to spill over it's banks, but didn't. Flooding all around us though...lots of lakes spilled over and a lot of friends can't leave their houses right now.
What Gingerbread Mamma said earlier can't be stressed enough...these storms are very unpredictable. Hundreds of miles from here and it caused all sorts of trouble. Take a look at this map I attached. Shows you how much rain can fall...it was certainly not forecast to be this much!! (I'm in the purple, which means radar indicated about 16 inches of rain).
http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/2012/wpb_isaac_rain.gif
Again...my best wishes to the people on the Gulf Coast!
Frank, I hope you water damage is not too severe and the cleanup goes fast.
GBM...probably gonna need to replace some drywall. But if that's the worst of it, I can't be too upset! :-)
Talk to the Hand Coming from someone who is in Fl...a Cat one is more than just a thunderstorm. Especially when you are talking 20 inches of water, tornadoes ect.
Every president, Rep and Dem makes a statement before and after a storm, EVEN a CAT1. Romney on the other hand, has nothing useful to add and should keep quiet. Leave the governors to deal with the issues at hand.
Stay safe and dry everyone.
Actually - had anyone bothered to listen to the news - New Orleans is expecting this to be a test of the new levees and how well they will hold. Anyone who thinks 100 plus mile an hour winds don't do damage is - well - a Republican!
Obama/Biden 2012
OOOPs. he didn't think to do so until the President made that announcement.
Anything you do I can do too, nothing original in that guy.
And where in the article did it say that Romney called after Obama made his proclamation? I missed that part. You don't know who did what first.
May have something to do with the fact they are all Republicans. Ya think?
Hey talk, you haven't noticed everything the President does or says these days the 'lack of imagination' party campaign copies. Pay attention, Mittens is.
Gingerbread. You think Obama can imagine a laser and focus on the economy or Does Bush still control the world?
Caesar Augustus, what is it with your fascination with a laser. I don't get it. Is it a reference to the tunnel vision of George W. Bush?
The day Obama took office, leading Republicans decided Job 1 was to make Obama fail. Their goal was not to help America dig itself out of the economic hole it found itself in.
Job losses were almost 800,000 per month when Obama took office. Last month, we added 164,000 jobs.
The recession started in January 2008 and ended 3 months after the stimulus with its aid to states ($200 billion) keeping states from doing the massive job cuts they would have needed to do to meet their balanced budget requirements, thus avoiding extending the recession for at least another 3 to 12 months.
I don't know about you, but many small businesses were on the verge of failure and this decisive action stopped eroding sales and saved many of these businesses from failing.
The auto industry was on the verge of failing when Obama took office, but his decisive action allowed them to continue to make and sell autos even as GM and Chrysler went through bankrupcy reorganization. Many in the Republican Party yelled "let them fail" while ignoring their part in their near failure, the repeal of the fuel mileage standard and a ridiculously optimistic energy policy. The auto makers produced and sold high profit gas guzzling SUV's while Republicans cheered how clever they were. Then, gas hit $4 per gallon and this party was over. If only, they had extended the fuel mileage standard to the SUV class instead of getting rid of it all. Obama saved our auto industry despite Republican opposition.
The mortgage situation was one area Obama couldn't act decisively. He was blocked by the Republican Lie Machine which shouted "you can't help those homeowners in foreclosure. It's their own fault" the public outcry scuttled this effort. Now, over 3 years later, we are still seeing improvement, but it has been slow.
Consumer confidence is still down, but again the Republican Lie Machine continues to wail how bad the economy is.
The stock market is now over 13,000, double the low it reached early in Obama's term. Investor confidence is apparently restored.
Our largest corporations are making record profits and sitting on piles of cash. They are waiting to hire until sales pick up (faster than productivity increases). Yet, Romney's solution is not to help the middle class but to give more to the rich and make the middle class insecure about its retirement which results in them spending less.
I could go on, but I think it's clear. Obama has been good for America. The Republicans failed in their mission to make him fail. OBAMA 2012. For sure. For a better future.
Rick Perry must feel snubbed...
Well old Rmoney has to look like he's doing something. But wait he is not in charge of anything. The man has no office this is grandstanding at it best.
He's just asking them if they want some of Ann's cookies. They're going fast and are so mighty tasty.
Yo Smitty - you are right Mitt's got no office. SO why all the concern for what he does?
Whereas Obama is the Pres., and yet, and at this very moment he is doing the exact same thing Mitt is doing - campaigning.
BUt you are good with that, correct? In fact he has several 'events' lined up this week.
Proud must you be.
exactly spanky, dont let partisan politics get in the way libbies
spanky BUt you are good with that correct?
Yes I'm good with that. If I recall all Presidents have to campaign to get reelected. Did your panties get in as tight a bunch as they are now when bush 2 campaigned to get reelected?
I for one am optimistic Romney's employment status won't be changing any time soon.
and yes, GB Mama, he is the consummate Copycat "leader". Anything YOU can do,...he can do, too!
Just goes to show you libs are like everyone else you have disdain for. If he wouldn't have called or done something, you would have been screaming "Where' Willard?". He did call and all you can do his call him an opportunist. Now you know why we conservatives laugh at you. You accuse and point fingers when done to your side and yet, when it is your turn you eat it up.
Because all of us expect a candidate who has no real power to do something that requires real power. Right...
We borrowed it from the Republican hand book. Gotta problem with that, buck-o?
Then talk....you must see that when the President says 'I" and you complain he should say 'we' you'd then be complaining he wasn't involved enough.
So what way do you want it? There is no pleasing some, they just like to be whiny.
we will see who stays behind to loot like katrina.
Romney: Where are your tax returns???? Obviously you aren't the man your daddy was...he released several years and said Americans deserve to see how a potential president made his money and invest his money.....according to your daddy, releasing one year doesn't cut it.
Romney, man up and produce your tax returns...majority of Americans of both parties are "entitled" to see them...you want the highest job in the nation....then give us your resume...we can't talk about Bain, Mass, Olympics, Romneycare, taxes....exactly what kind of resume is that....I wouldn't hire anyone who doesn't want to talk about his past.....
Dragon, I laugh constantly at liberal hypocrisy. In 2004, you had a Democrat candidate, John Kerry. By all measures, he was rich. But how did he get that way?
Oh, he married into wealth! So, it wasn't really his money! But Teresa his wife was rich. Did we ever see her returns? I don't think so. And how did Teresa make her money? By gosh, I think she inherited it!
So we had a rich candidate that didn't work for his money but married it. And we had an heiress who didn't work for her money but they both lived off...OMG, CAPITAL GAINS!!!
So, what about that? You guys make it out that Romney is so bad for earning his money and then investing in it and living off of capital gains. Yet Johnny boy and Teresa don't even work for their money but just live off capital gains, pay those low capital gains rates and they're OK? You guys never say a word? YGTBSM!
You guys talk about the Cayman's a lot but we find out John Kerry had a destroyer escort size yacht that he harbored in Delaware to avoid Massachusetts taxes. Oh, but that's OK, huh? Because he's a compassionate Democrat?
You didn't say anything about Teresa's inheritance. Can you tell me why it's OK for a Democrat to live off the capital gains from an inheritance? Mitt didn't even live off his. He gave it away to charity.
BTW, the Kerrys are about three to four times richer than the Romneys.
You talk about electing someone to the highest office and we deserve to see how they invest and make their money. I guess that only applies to Republicans since Kerry made his pretty easy...by marriage. And Teresa made hers by NOT WORKING A DAY IN HER LIFE.
Sound familiar?
What say you?
enner, it has to do with the lies Mitt tells over and over.....I wasnt involved in Bain during the Olympics...ooops I was flying to board meetings. It was a blind trust, I had no clue.... Oh and I love the clerical error on his taxes before he was elected governor. If you really think Mitt gave even 10% to charity you're gullible. What was he gonna say "oh btw here is an extra few million, I had a clerical error and missed those Swiss bank accounts.
People are asking for his returns because of his track record of lie after lie. He ran on the fact that he was a successful businessman...prove it. He was the one that brought this to the table.
enner: You missed the point entirely....are you that obtuse....or just ignorant. We don't care Romney's are wealthy.....but why doesn't he show his tax returns....what is he hiding???
Repubs keep ranting the same tired line about Dems not liking wealth...which have been proven false over and over.
What Americans don't like is someone who uses every loophole to get out of paying their fair share in taxes....it may be "legal" but not ethical and shows a persons values....like greed.
Americans know why Romney won't produce his tax returns, because he did some pretty unethcial stuff to avoid paying US taxes....end of story.
Tammy, I seriously question whose gullible here and swallowing the propaganda.
When Steven Jobs took a medical leave of absence from Apple, he was still the titular head, still involved and in communication with Apple and had to sign the Apple SEC documents. Read the bio.
Do you know how a blind trust works?
You "love the clerical error on taxes" and think it can't happen over and above your control? Happens all the time. I just had it happen to me because of an error on a 1099 from the reporting firm and I had to file an amended return.
John Kerry released his tax returns, as did John McCain. The fact that their wives were wealthy was not relevant---it was their personal finances and how they were handled that the American people had a right to know about and each candidate obviously agreed or they wouldn't have released their returns. What is Mitt hiding in those returns?
enner The question is do you know how a blind trust works. It does not operate totally in the dark. Clerical errors in which you file taxes in the wrong state do not just happen everyday. Come on. Yes you are gullible if you buy the bs.
This phone call nonsense is about as phony as Queen Ann shopping at Costco and him ironing his own shirts....whatever.
Don't forget Ann baking cookies and handing them out this morning. The word "genuine" just isn't in their vocabulary.
Dragon,
You say I'm obtuse and you criticize Romney for being legal but unethical and don't even acknowledge that Kerry was using a loophole in a pretty UNETHICAL manner?
Furthermore at the beginning of the Obama Administration, how many candidates for positions in the administration had significant tax problems and couldn't come on board to serve? Quite a few as I recall.
Isn't this like the pot calling the kettle black?
And you know enner, those who were looking to come on board produced more tax returns than Romney...and your point?
Tammy, My point? They had to provide more because they had documented problems with the one's released which led the senate committees to then have questions about previous returns not released.
In fact in Sen Daschle's case, he decided to amend his return AFTER Obama nominated him for Sec of HHS.
That's not the case with Romney.
What's your point about blind trusts being not so blind? And to what are you referring to when you talk about filing in the wrong state? Are you talking about the Ca vs MA address that's been buzzing about in the lefty blog world?
No enner, go take a look at Mitt's tax problems which had to be corrected BEFORE he was governor.
in 2002, when he was running for governor of Massachusetts, Romney was equally adamant that he would not release his tax returns. A key issue then was Romney’s eligibility to serve as governor. Massachusetts law requires that in order to serve as governor, candidates must have resided in the state for the previous seven consecutive years. Because Romney had lived in Utah full time while he ran the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, it seemed obvious he did not meet that requirement.
Dragon,
You talk about using loopholes and term it "greedy" when it comes to Romney. You can't have it both ways. It either DOES or DOES NOT apply to everyone because everyone including wealthy Democrats can and DO use the tax code to their advantage.
Kerry's yacht tax strategy was but one example. It was legal...but it sure didn't "look good". Know what I mean?
I'll leave you with a famous quote on greed from Thomas Sowell, an African American conservative, economist and prof at Stanford: "I have never understood why it is greed to want to keep the money you earned...but NOT greed to take someone else's money".
And I will leave you with John C. Bogle's (Vanguard founder) thoughts :
Q. What do you think about the ongoing discussion over tax fairness?
A. I believe the rich should pay more, but that’s not a good platform for tax policy. What has gone wrong is that we’ve failed to recognize the difference between earned income and unearned income. Is it really fair for gamblers on Wall Street to pay a 15 percent rate when they make a winning investment, and an honest working person - a bricklayer for example - may pay an equal or higher tax on their wages than a gambler? That’s absolute absurdity.
Rates may have to be changed, but we also need to look at what is taxed, and how. Dividend income should be taxed at the same rate as ordinary income. As for capital gains, there ought to be some distinction between capital made by people who start businesses, and contribute value to society, and capital made by gamblers on Wall Street, some of whom win. Earned capital income should carry the regular dividend rate, but capital income gains by trading, and particularly short-term trading, should pay a higher tax, even than the present ordinary income rate.
Tammy,
I will never understand the philosophy behind Bogle's statement. Because he says one thing above that stood out to me: "...and capital made by gamblers on Wall Street, some of whom win."
Yeah, SOME of whom win. All business investment carries a risk. I think the "gamblers" characterization is completely off the mark.
And the IRS doesn't help you much if you lose.
But more importantly, if i choose to "risk" and succeed, why do you on the left say you or the Fed govt deserve the same "cut" as if it is earned (read GUARANTEED) income?
I took the risk. Neither you or the federal govt did. You're getting something for nothing. Not only is it unfair...it's absurd.
It's like having two kids going to college. One gets accepted to the college and the other doesn't. The deciding factor was GPA. What you're saying is take away the better student's GPA and "give" some to the student that didn't make it to make that student eligible. Even out the playing field. Redistribute the wealth.
Please, if you're happy with that, I'm sure you would have been happy working on the collective farms in the former Soviet Union. Or in the hippie communes of the 60s. They all failed.
enner, why should I pay a higher effective tax rate than a hedge fund manager? You can analyze it ten ways to Sunday but the fact remains the same. Why should a working person pay more taxes on earned income than the gambler on unearned income?
Yet Ryans so called plan calls for cuts to medicare and more breaks to millionaires. Trickle down voodoo economics doesn't work. Try as they may, the GOP cannot reinvent Reagonomics.
