You have to excuse our Mayor of Los Angeles. This man has NO CREDIBILITY in the eyes of most of us. He ran on a basis or family. DESTROYED his own family by having an affair with a TV reporter. He has taxed us here in Los Angeles beyond belief. An example: we were going to have our trash pick up increased. We had been paying close to $17 a month, the deal was to raise it to $27 over a period of years. This jackass slapped us in the face with so many increases it is unreal. Mayor Bradley is spinning in his grave. This man has used this office for his own personal gain and his own corruption. He has run our city into the ground. I would warn EVERYONE that visits Los Angeles, beware signs. We have the stupid signs like on my street 380dollars if I go down my street before was 9 am now it is 10 am. Go the other way and it is $380 if you turn here between 4-7. Sad part is my neighborhood could take the pressure off of Laurel Canyon and not cause it to be a 45 minute commute. With all the streets in my neighborhood, there are many little outlets into Hollywood. BE WARNED! If you get one of those tickets, don't expect it to cost you less than $500. Just a word of caution from someone who has had to pay a few of these, and I live on the street. By the way our Mayor is a want to be. He will play kiss ass with Dems or Repugs. He isn't choosy. He just isn't for the people!

This one sided view of "Latinos", or a stereotype of Latinos, as "all economic or political refugees from Cuba", who are, and should be, grateful to the GOP for "rescuing them, saving them and spreading their great 'wealth economics' to those helpless powerless victims of Caribbean Communism" needs to stop. There are Blacks who are Latinos. There are Latinos who look Anglo and act Anglo. There are Latinos who are not all from Cuba. There are Cubans who are not all voting for Mitt & Ryan and later Rubio...even if Rubio becomes a Rubic cube! :)) And Miami has a large non-Cuban Latino population who must also be interviewed by the press - that is made of Jacks and Janes...who all seem to look alike with a lot of face lifts. My other question, "How did so many ugly men and women, calling themselves journalists and anchors, get on TV?" That boggles my mind. It used to be that if you did not have good looks, or good taste in the way you presented yourself, you had to have good language, good diction, good knowledge and intelligence. S Allison you got the history of American immigration wrong. In fact highest immigration to the US occurred between the late 1800s and 1920s when one in every four American was an immigrant. Large segment of immigrants also came to the US during and after the First and Second World wars. Many European (Anglo European) immigrants were illegals. Even those who were legal lied about their name, skills and credentials to get into the US. Many of them had terrible infectious diseases that were not well diagnosed and did infect the local population. Some who were identified were isolated in hospitals in Long Island and other places so they would not spread their infections. Later, many, were let in.

Those who records and documents were unclear or false were rarely evaluated as legals are today...with finger identifications, etc. Many of the legals were not educated and some were had "mental problems and were also criminals". But in the 1800s and the early 1900s there was little effort or technology to clarify and verify documents and what immigrants told authorities. As my father-in-law would say, "Most of them were chicken-stealers or thieves from Europe". (He is a son of an immigrant). Bit rude...but not entirely untrue.

The number of scientists, educated people, middle class people and those with clear objectives and goals (for their betterment and betterment of society) were few. In fact there were rich Europeans, some from business family or royal family, who came to the US to expand their business, fortune and profits, or to start a new life, new identity...or to pursue their eccentricities. Few among the middle class came...as middle class itself, in that agrarian feudal era, were almost non-existent. Many of the European immigrants were illiterates who could not even write and read their names in their mother-tongue. And many non-Anglo non-English speaking immigrants had to give up their language and culture to assimmilate into the Anglo-Saxon Protestant communities. Many shortened their names, Anglicized it or Christianized it...including many early Jews, Italians and Eastern Europeans (who have long names with plenty of consonants).

I do not agree with Arnold, nor supported his candidacy, but I'll give him credit for running for the high California office with his Austrian-German accent, and his last name in full, proudly. That is one proud immigrant who would have been told by Iowans that he was not the "son of the soil", and hence had to leave the country. One engineer-moron said to me, in Iowa, that he and others would not vote for Arnold as Mayor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa becaue he was not "a son of the soil". My wife said, and they hate her down there for this, "Yes, yes...Arnold is losing sleep as Governor of California, the eighth largest economy in the world, because he could not become Mayor of Cedar Rapids". How clueless and arrogant does one have to be to make those kinds of statements? And that too an engineer with a Masters degree?

I think Midwesterners are wonderful people, and I have admired their frugality, humility, hard work and work ethics. But Iowa, my friend, has become an anamoly even among Midwest States. You should hear what Wisconsinites, Minnesotans, etc. say about Iowans. That is so sad! I like people in Iowa city and some in Coralville. But beyond a few places Iowa is getting more and more conservative, and more and more crazy.

Some sane gays are actually some farmers who like immigrants, especially Latinos who work hard on their farms and for their welfare and success, and even try to learn Spanish. But beyond that there are some really hard core "racist, sexist people haters". Ask my wife - who had to deal with people with some funny attitudes. She has actually gotten brilliant and saner after leaving that place. :)) That place can drive any smart independent woman, or person of color, crazy. And many there, natives as they call themselves, are all from the good ole Europe! So Allison...Europe did not always send their best, and all who came were not all legal...and those who were legal were not always good for our economy or our society. If that were the case would we be where we are now...considering 90% of the leadership in the US is held by Anglo Americans of European descent?

The hispanic the Republicans trotted out passed her bar exam and didn't have to change her name. Susana Martinez has been more successful in her short time as the first hispanic female governor in the United States than Villaraigosa has all this time in Los Angeles. Calling Gov. Martinez a "brown face" is racist and sexist but you wouldn't expect NBC to call him out on that since they blocked Susana's speech during their telecast. I'm with Susana, juntos con Romney!!

The Republican convention has just passed and had you been paying attention when the cameras were panning over the delegates you would have seen a whole lot of white faces. There were interviews out in the corridors of the convention center and the only brown or black faces you saw were the people working the concession stands or sweeping the floors. The Democratic convention is happening now. When the camera pans the auditorium all you see is diversity. All races, every ethnic background, every religeon. I know the haters watching this convension will be talking about "r*******" supporting the "Muslim" President, or blacks supporting their "n*****" president. But the truth of the matter is, these conventions are a reflection of the party and the candidate. I'm white, a Democrat, and appreciate the cultural diversity of our party. I also believe in God. I believe in an individuals right to choose their own religeon or no religeon at all. I believe in a persons right to autonomy over their own health, reproductive organs, and end of life decisions. I believe in a strong educational system, a strong military, a strong infrastructure, building the economy from the bottom up, and technological advances and a future that has yet to be written. I want my children and grandchildren to have clean air to breath and clean water to drink. I want them growing up believing that you not only take care of the house you live in, but you take care of the home you live on. And if your neighbor is having a difficult time, if they've had some setbacks in their lives, you reach out with a kind word and a helping hand. You do what you can to lift them up so that they can get back on their feet, not kick them when they're down. I believe that cooperation and negotiation is the way forward. No party or candidate is right all the time and until we all work together and believe in each other we can never reach our shared goal of a better world for our children. And if that makes me a "socialist" or a "bleeding heart liberal" then I will wear those badges with pride and I will vote for those candidates who I believe share my vision for the future.

My instant impulse is to ask what executive position do they occupy within the repub party? For all intents and purposes a robot could accomplish that feat. From what I've observed the Black repubs appear most often on MSNBC-TV, well known for it's liberal postions. Why aren't they employed or contributors by/for Fox TV? Smells like they are neither welcomed or wanted on Fox.
