Ann Romney, delivering cookies, says she's ready for her big night

ABOARD THE ROMNEY CAMPAIGN PLANE -- Only hours before delivering her speech to a national audience, Ann Romney is ready to go (but her outfit is not).

While passing out home-baked Welsh cakes, her specialty, to the secret service and press corps, the former first lady of Massachusetts expressed confidence in the team that helped write her speech, and a bit of dismay that those same strategists would be also be helping to select her wardrobe.

“We’re having a great time. I’m excited about it,” Mrs. Romney said of the speech. “And the funniest thing of all is that Stuart Stevens, who wears his shirts inside-out, is advising me on what dress I should wear tonight. So I know I’ve come really full-circle now.”

At the Republican National Convention the wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was preparing to give a "heartfelt" speech, that may improve her husband's appeal. NBC's Peter Alexander reports from Tampa, Fla.

“It was going to be like my wedding night -- I wasn’t going to let him know what I was going to wear. But now they have opinions,” Mrs. Romney said of her husband and his staff.

Mrs. Romney, who usually delivers her brief stump speech off the cuff, and almost never uses a teleprompter, said preparing for her speech with a teleprompter was “hard,” and said the ongoing process of refining the speech was exciting, if challenging.

“You know, I think you will see that my speech is heartfelt, and I think a lot of you have been covering me long enough and you know I've never gone off a written text. So this is a unique experience for me,” Romney said.

A reporter asked Romney what she hoped viewers at home would think as they watched the speech on television.

“How important this election’s going to be and how important it’s going to be for them to consider the right things to make their right decisions,” Mrs. Romney said, wrapping up the Q & A session.

“I think that’s it, guys. I’m just going to pass out the Welsh cakes now.”

Stay in the kitchen, bake those cookies, rattle them pots & pans! Go to the polls and vote like hubby tells you to. Then get in line for your government-mandated transvaginal ultrasound. Republican woman is an oxymoron. A real woman would vote in her own ENLIGHTENED self-interest.

As Ann Romney leaves one of her many homes, in one of her Cadillacs and rides her private jet to Tampa, bringing her homemade Welsh cookies (yes, we know she's an American) - did she purchase her outfit for tonight at Costco or did she purchase it from a consignment store or perhaps a gentle-but-used store. She cannot make herself anymore "ordinary or homey" than she can make Mitt human, with feelings, compassion and an understanding of what it is to be a "regular American" in today's world built for the rich and the greedy. All of this fluff is just a little too late to matter. Maybe Ann can make more insulting remarks to "you people" in her fuzzy message.

The Romneys paid for their houses and cars. They have the money to shop anywhere they want to because they earned it. Why are so jealous of other people?

And Ann Romney didn't say "you people."

Yes, she did say "you people" when she said "you people" don't need and aren't going to get any more of their tax returns.

We all know why Ann Romney is taking the podium, but what about Chris Christie?

My guess is that Christie will give a typical Christie-type speech, mixing some well-received half-truth, anti-Obama zingers with a plethora of outright lies, but with one goal in mind: Christie in 2016.

His only competition for the 2016 Republican nomination will be a reloaded Huckabee, a 'just-too-late-to-the-dance' Jeb Bush, and perhaps an overly-presumptive Paul Ryan. Sister Sarah, of course, will be making some waves, as will Santorum, but the former will be in it only for the speaking fees and the constituency of the latter will be absorbed by Huckabee.

Make no mistake, people, Christie will be speaking ABOUT Romney but on BEHALF of Christie....and he would prefer that Romney lose.

Perfect - Ann Romney, Grounded Republican Woman, "delivering cookies". That's the image that Repubs are trying to construct and want us all to believe in - this Leave It To Beaver, Norman Rockwell imaginary world of theirs where everyone's happy, well-off, free of care, concern, and strife. And WE COULD HAVE IT TOO! if we'd just vote to put Romney in office! I have a feeling her speech tonight will be so sappy as to be painfully embarrassing.

The reality of Republicans, of course, is far different. The cartwheels they need to do, the hoops they jump through, to try and convince everyone that all is right in their world, are laughable because they're so unbelievable. This is called, putting Lipstick On A Pig. But that pretty much sums up EVERY Republican effort to humanize themselves and justify their vision of and for America. All illusion, little substance, and what substance there is, Americans recognize as far-right lunacy.

Gee how cute of Ann Romeny. If Ann Romeny thinks this makes her any more human than her husband she is really mistaken. Go home lady. This better be your big night because the White House will not be yours. Woman don't want you or hour husband telling us wheat we can do simply because those are your Mormon beliefs. Stop trying to push what you believe on the rest of the country - we are too smart for that or at least most of us are.

I doubt the Romneys will think that the White House is theirs when they move in on January 20, 2013. You see, they understand that the White House belongs to the people.

I don't think the Romneys have told anyone what to do. Why do you spew such lies?

Because in this country, one can still choose to live where one wants??? Perhaps they like the climate or the view. As far as hating anyone goes, I don't think they hate anyone. Like most mature adults, they are able to have different philosophies and still care about the person.

              Dear Mrs Romney,
As an international with the privilege of residency I apologize for the inability of your critics to understand the complexity of being "woman". Whilst its fair to say that Mrs Clinton has been by far my favorite first lady, politician and one of those wonderful women of the world to look up to it would be unfair and unjust to judge you against her.
For me I see you taking a different path in life with the devotion of family and home. I read some of the surly comments here and could not help but wonder if these people in this blog are more animal than human. If we judged them based on their comments we would believe them capable of eating their own flesh and blood alive. (Americans appear to not love each other terribly well)
As a mother of three and a balancing career woman I have trodden a different path to yourself. However, I understand that it is quite a task to raise children and you did so with five. More importantly, I also understand your husband would not have advanced so well in his career had you not been the solid force for which would cushion his successful future. Since when is it "a-shame" to be successful? If we have no successful citizens with different approaches we have nothing to aspire toward greater evolution and being...
Be strong Mrs Romney and know that you do represent a choice for woman. As well, those who know what is involved to raise a successful family, know what great sacrifices you have made and consider that one attribute a great strength of loyalty and dedication. Always remember, it is the choices that are too part of the democracy. Woman still have choices and that is what is important in the grand scheme of things - too many have paved the way for this freedom to be diminished in any way by defaming the traditional role that some woman choose to take as their life path.

Critics leave the definition of "women" alone to each individual woman and back-off our work is not done yet. Mrs Romney has something to offer if you choose to see her real credentials - matriarch! Now apologize to your own mothers, grandmothers and others for their invalidation please!

The little woman was passing out cookies to the employees and guests. How very Stepford. How very domestic. How very 1950's.

I didn't have that kind of time so once a week I would stop at Dunkin' Donuts, pick up a dozen or so donuts or bagels, leave them in the break room for my staff and head right into the office to fire up the computer. Maybe the sentiment is the same but the visual is very different.

Vicious hit below the belt mindless comments lacking any substance are simply a waste of time, space and energy - why do they do what they do? Is this not a form of hate? You have simply debased a perfectly niche human being who could be your neighbor, relative or friend. Why? What purpose does this serve? Did anyone benefit or change, learn or evolve as a result of these comments? This is simply sad intelligence... Be happy - you live in America and you have good people on all sides of government trying to run your country. Just different methods neither are right or wrong, simply different perspectives - that's democracy at work! At the moment the only thing that matters is the economy and getting jobs for our youth - everything else can wait! We need financial savvy leaders that know how to turn money around because currently the golden vain is dry and on life support. Blame who you like but at the end of the day fixing the problem is more important than revisionist history and blame games. When we turn the golden flow on again we can fund anything! Now put your head down and your butt up and get back to work in rebuilding this great nation! Business people know it matters not who is in power - business finds a way and if you notice under our President Obama's administration big business has profited and grown but...little business has died and little people have lost jobs and now their kids have no job, no education funding, no insurance just cute little food stamps or $10 an hour casual jobs! Its time to teach all to go fish! No more stamps! Empower the people to greatness and the greatest country will reign again!
