TAMPA, Fla. — No state has loomed larger in presidential politics in recent years as Florida, and this year is no exception.
Mitt Romney's path to the White House, like George W. Bush and John McCain before him, runs through Florida, the host to this week's Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Related: GOP elders describe high stakes for Romney in Tampa
The Sunshine State seems will assume just as important of a role in deciding the presidential election as it had in recent cycles, contributing to Republicans' decision to place their quadrennial gathering here, rather than other contending host cities: Phoenix and Salt Lake City.
"I think it's a huge advantage," said Florida Republican consultant Brian Hughes of the convention's placement. He noted that every network affiliate throughout the state would provide extensive coverage of the convention.
"It really energizes the base. You've got every key activist in the base on the Republican side engaged in this," Hughes said, adding that independent voters won't be able to escape the week's festivities and speeches, either.
Recommended: Some prominent Republicans won’t be in Tampa
Indeed, President Barack Obama and the Romney campaign -- joined by their supporting super PACs -- have already spent $110 million on advertising in Florida alone, according to NBC News ad-tracking sources, accounting for almost a fifth of all ad spending in the entire election. Team Romney and Team Obama are about even, at $55 million to date.
The GOP convention will be a carefully-staged operation engineered to selling the party and Romney to a national audience. But now, it will be a shortened affair after convention organizers canceled the first day of activities due to an impending hurricane.
But at the same time, Republicans hope the week full of fanfare and heavy local media coverage will help deliver Florida in November for Romney, for whom the path to 270 electoral votes is slim without this swing state. If Romney were to lose Florida, he would need to sweep every single of the 8 states rated a "toss-up" on NBC’s battleground map: Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.
NBC News Political Director, Chuck Todd, looks at the electoral map and breaks down the road to 270 with other members of the Meet the Press roundtable.
Romney won the state's late January primary, and Florida, in many ways, serves as a microcosm for the general election.
Florida was one of the states hardest hit by the collapse of the housing market in 2008, sending the state spiraling into an especially deep recession. The unemployment rate for the state is 8.8 percent, higher than the national rate of 8.2 percent.
The economy in Florida "will likely be a real drag on President Obama," said Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor, whose district includes central Tampa.
"People's property values have not recovered, and if people had savings, it would have been in their home," she said. "For all the talk about jobs and innovation and education, people may look at what they're worth and decide on that basis."
But if the state is a perfect example of the dangers for Obama, it's also a state that illustrates some of the challenges that Romney most overcome.
Obama led Romney by three percent, 49 to 46 percent, in a Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll released last week. But Obama's lead is also built, in part, upon advantages he holds with women and Hispanics, mirroring his edge the president holds with those two groups nationally.
Obama leads 53 to 41 percent among Florida women, and 61 to 31 percent among Hispanics (despite the Republican sympathies of the state's large Cuban American population). To compare, in 2008, Obama beat Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) in Florida 52-47 percent among women voters, according to exit polls, and 57-42 percent among Latinos.
The convention's lineup will put some of the GOP's rising women and Latino leaders in the spotlight, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R), a conservative darling whom many conservatives Romney had hoped Romney would pick as his running mate. Rubio will introduce Romney before the presumptive Republican nominee's acceptance speech.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said Mitt Romney's acceptance speech will afford him the opportunity to speak directly to the voters with his platform going forward.
The convention will also give Romney and the rest of the Republican Party a chance to make their case for Medicare reforms in a state where seniors and retirees exert an outsized influence in elections.
Presumptive vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's two budgets as chairman of the House Budget Committee propose major changes to Medicare, principally by turning it into a system where seniors would receive a voucher — or premium support – to seek health insurance. (A later version of Ryan's plan would allow retirees to maintain traditional Medicare.)
The fact that Romney and Ryan have promised no changes for Americans over the age of 55 hasn't stopped Medicare from becoming a central issue in the campaign, even moreso in Florida. Ryan last weekend took his case on Medicare to seniors at The Villages, the sprawling retirement community just about two hours from Tampa.
And in the end, geography could prove decisive in determining the winner of Florida's 29 electoral votes in November.
Hillsbrough Country — which encompasses Tampa — and adjacent Pinellas County — which includes much of St. Petersburg — have emerged as a bellwether for the rest of the state.
"I find it hard to think they'll speak to the hardworking voters here of central Florida," Castor said of the Romney-Ryan's regional appeal. "People are independent-minded…They would really have to moderate their message. What is their vision besides large tax cuts for corporate America and the top one or two percent?"
Even at the apex of his political strength, Obama only bested McCain by about 10,000 of 430,000 votes cast in Hillsbrough in 2008; Obama's 53-45 percent victory in Pinellas was more comfortable.
George W. Bush won Hillsbrough in both of his presidential campaigns, but split the difference in the slightly more Democratic Pinellas County. Bush lost Pinellas in 2000, but won by 226 votes in 2004.
"Every poll that's looked at Florida in recent weeks — at the core of them, they're all within the margins," Hughes said. "It's a dogfight."

Yada, yada, Bush lost in 2000...and was appointed by the right-wing US SC....Nice!...guess it really doesn't matter if you lose the vote, there's always the SC!
Someone might want to mention to Ryan/Romney 1040 that today Charlie Crist endorsed Barack Obama.
Says Crist:

And this is a real eye opener:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/08/26/2969064/charlie-crist-continues-political.html
Maybe Ryan/Romney 1040 can learn something...
...NAHHHHHH! Never happen...
The only way Rmoney wind is through voter suppression. He is clearly gunning for Medicare and Social Security. If only we had a "free press" that would tell the public. Instead we have a corporate media, that lets them get away with murder.
Reportedly, Willard/Ryan will use the Convention to reintroduce themselves!...Etch-a-sketch moments!
They have both failed and we must remember "You only get one chance to make a first impression"!
....No do-overs......
no surprise in florida . crist works for lawyers that are obamabot. just get that monkey off our backs.
Given that the GOP/TP theme during the convention is "I Built This", remind us again who built the convention center playing host to the GOP. Name please!!
"voter suppression" - just dead people and ILLEGALs
"free press" - like NBC and MSNBC
"corporate media" - almost all liberal
You're not supposed to say that out loud, lol....but taxpayer dollars, local and federal built that convention center!..Oh well!
President Obama leads Mitt Romney in Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin right now in the polls. Romney needs to pray that he does not say or do anything to further degrade the general electorate and better start figuring out what "his" platform is instead of what the "Republican"platform is and start distancing himself from Representative Akin's remarks. But that is very difficult for him to do now that he has placed Rep. Paul Ryan on the Republican ticket. Paul Ryan and Representative Akin are cut from the same mold. They co-sponsored 39 bills in the House together regarding "redefining rape" and "person-hood" definitions. Romney made a huge mistake....he did not learn the lessons of John McCain in picking a Vice Pres. pick just to please the ultra conservative base, thumb his nose at the main stream party, and then format his platform to meet the outrageous forum of the ultra conservatives. His pick is going to cost him the election, just like John McCain.
And word to the wise: Please don;t waltz out Anne Romney to discuss her "difficult" life because she has intermittent flare-up of M.S. and has a history of breast cancer. It will be a further slap in the face to American women who deal with these same issues without housekeepers, nanny's, personal chef's and drivers, no money in the bank, and really know what it means to struggle as a woman in America.
It's pretty bad Mitt when Chris Christi endorses Obama. And the fact Rubio was cast aside to pick a Tea party golden boy is going to cost you plenty of votes in Florida also.
The good news is that we don't have the same right-wing SCOTUS we had in 2000.
FACTS YOU WON'T FIND ON FAUX NEWS:

Fox News - best example of corporate owned conservative media on the planet.
Ace of spades, Ace of diamonds, either way, snakes eyes for America.
GOP 1) Don't want us to see Romney's Tax Returns, 2) Don't want us to know who's contribution to their campaigns, 3) Don't' report ANY of this on Faux News. 4) Grover Norquist was NOT elected! 5) Now voMITT won't tell us where he disagrees with Ryan on his budget!!! GOP, why don't you believe in the America people?
Lorraine H - you're my new hero. Great post, especially the part about Ann.
Per CBO -- BUSH LEFT Obama $1.2 Trillion DEFICIT, and 3 Trillion in DEBT projected into Obama's term. Add to this the worst economic crisis in 80 years. 2006 Senate, 49/49/2. These are FACTS. Learn what they mean and until then refrain from posting...
THINKING OF VOTING FOR MITTENS? During his term, Massachusetts fell from 36th to 47th out of 50 states in job creation, while the overall U.S. economy grew. Of the jobs that were created in Massachusetts, state government jobs grew at six times the rate of private sector jobs.
Reporting at its best on MSNBC! Hello Obama path leads through may more States he won before and is at best struggling today. But hey thats not a reality to MSNBC. The can't afford to say anything is at risk for Obama so that they can get more money from him...
Stop thelies- how do you figure 3.5 million jobs created in the last 2 years. In order for the unenjoyment rate to go down, there must be 365, 000 jobs created per month, Every month. Yet we are sitting at over 8% unenjoyment for 42 straight months. Peddle YOUR lies somewhere else.
StopTheLiesNOW
As I told you yesterday if you believe all you put in this post then good because I have swamp land and a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. And I will only take on one of your creative postings and that is the tarps... As I told you yesterday 100's of companies received the money and to date only 32 has paid anything back so I don't consider that a win...
OMG LORRAINE H. My exact feelings. Hopefully the "smart" women out there will throw tomatoes at little orphan Anie. Bringing her on is like a REAL SLAP IN THE FACE-WORSE THAN MCCAIN'S!!!! How can she have a real view of what is going on in the U.S.? She doesn't work and never has (don't give me the teary eye crap as I know lots of "WOMEN" who have a disability AND also disabled children but their welfare benefits were cut (Thanks Capn. Jan), have to be on food stamps, medical benefits went into the toilet for them-most "ARE WORKING" if they can to supplement their household. Shame on you MITTENS!! Keep your secluded wife out of the real world as SHE has no idea what's out here. I had to raise two boys on my own, with little pay for women at the time. Don't feed me Annie's crap.
Oh yeah What idiot in their right mind shcedules a "party" knowing that Hurricanes-not storms-are common to the area? I just now realized their mindset-they don't THINK! Scarry omen for us if Mittens takes office. Which we know he won't
chilled....we're also not supposed to say out loud that the man who wants to be Vce President of the United States, Mr. Ryan, who has continuously raged against entitlement programs was in fact an entitlement program recipient with his family (even though they were wealthy) when his father unfortunately passed away and he received social security benefits from that "entitlement" program until he was 18 years old.
We're also not supposed to say out loud that Rep. Paul Ryan admitted he did in fact lobby for Millions of dollars of economic stimulus money from the federal government for his district in Wisconsin after denying it twice.
How is Romney different from Bush? Answer: He is NOT.
BUSH'S EPIC FAILURE, DEFICIT,
1/20/01: $236.2 billion surplus
1/20/09: $1.2 trillion DEFICIT
(Congressional Budget Office)
Mitt's path to the White House may be detoured if Mother Nature blows the GOP into the Gulf of Mexico this week. Really, it may be a fitting end to a failed political ideology.
More GOP LIES! You asked for the Debt to GDP ratio numbers, well here they are.
Highest increase in the last 4 decades:
#1 - George W. Bush - 27.8% (Bad Juju)
#2 - Ronald Reagan - 20.6%
#3 - Barack Obama - 15.4% (mostly due to Bush, his two wars, and the Bush Tax cuts)
#4 - George H. Bush - 13%
Only Presidents with decreases in the last 4 decades:
#1 - Bill Clinton - 9.7% decrease (He's the Man!!!)
#2 - Jimmy Carter - 3.3% decrease
Tax Policy Center -- took a close look at Romney's proposed tax and economic plan --- concluded that it would cut taxes for the richest Americans and actually raise them on the poor. Obama 2012.
I STILL WANT TO SEE WICKED WILLARDS AND RYAN'S TAX RETURNS!!!! Let us not forget the importance of this, because people need to know, especially the right wingers and teabags voting for these 2 goons that Romney\Ryan are crooks who are out to protect their own wealth along with their cohorts.
NO one should trust anyone who runs to lead this country BUT YET HIDE his wealth and millions of dollars in other countries BECAUSE HE DOES NOT WANT TO PAY TAXES ON THEM. ESPECIALLY WHEN OUR COUNTRY COULD REALLY USE THE HELP OF THE UBER 1% ECHELON, AND NOT JUST THE DEPLETED MIDDLE CLASS TO SHOULDER THE BURDEN.
And how can we forget much less stop the RELENTLESS LIES Romney\Ryan are spewing!!! Like the "build that" statement. Even when this has been already addressed of how the RNC\FAUX news have twisted Obama's words by chopping off the whole statement, they still keep up the ridiculous pace of these lying ads!
The WHOLE statement of Obama was referring to the "INFRASTRUCTURE" that was built by our nation to help the small business grow the their businesses.
He said they didn't build our roads, our schools, our fire departments, our police, or our courts. Our GOVERNMENT built that!
The endless lies of the ReThUGS are mind boggling!
LASTLY to all women in this nation. Let us not forget who is out to destroy what took us decades to built and we have earned thru hard work and fight. Do not forget the GOP's war against women's rights.
There’s one thing women’s bodies can shut down.
And it’s called the Republican Party.
Vote this November as if your life and your rights depended on it.
BECAUSE THEY DO!
Labor Force Statistics from the Current Population Survey (Source: BLS Rpt. LNU02000000)
Actual job growth in the last two years is around 3.5 million jobs.
-------- All the GOP can do is call you a liar. Nevermind the FACT that they have NOTHING of substance to offer. Not too smart these GOP.
"Obama leads 53 to 41 percent among Florida women, and 61 to 31 percent among Hispanics (despite the Republican sympathies of the state's large Cuban American population)."
Mr. Romney's solution to close this gap with the Hispanic vote?
Buy Cuba and give it to Florida.
That's about his only hope.
StopNOW Thank you for facts. OBAMA 2012
Lorraine and Fergie - you two are shameful women. Mrs. Romney has done nothing to deserve the hate that spews from mouths of 'ladies' like you. Typical liberal women who hate other women. You are probably mad at women who homeschool their kids or who breast feed their kids. Or who go to PTA meetings or do anything that even smacks of traditional motherhood.
I suspect you are both divorced/single parents who are bitter because you had it so rough and are jealous because she has a successful marriage, raised what appear to be stable, healthy and happy children and is wealthy.
I'm divorced and raised two kids on my own. And I admit there are times I get envious of other people who can afford to buy their kids nice things, go on nice vacations and all of that. I even fantasize about giving big envelopes of cash to women in the grocery store who do what I did and had to make hard choices between what they need and what they want with a couple of crying kids in tow. It is that fantasy of helping out another woman who struggles that keeps me working my tail off because I have learned that being angry and bitter about what someone else has earned doesn't motivate me to work.
I'm not envious of people like Anne Romney, I want to be like Anne Romney so I can then help people like you who can't get out of the rut you are in because you are so blinded by hatred and jealousy.
We used to look up to people who were successful now we hold them in contempt. Do you tell your kids to aim low because the government will take care of them? Do you tell your kids not to do their best because wealth is bad? Do you tell your kids that success is for losers? Do you tell your kids that working in an unskilled job is more noble than a skilled professional?
Tonybeerm and Fergico
Thanks for the posts and support. I know I will take some hits for my post, but people are so stuck in their ideas of being right that they forget to remember they have brains to think for themselves. Facts are facts and can't be changed just because of a political agenda. Obama may not have been the best choice for our country in 2008, but he has accomplished things that have actually saved America. TARP money is 95% repaid to our federal reserve because of the banking regulations he put in place. Bailing out the Auto industry was the right thing and only thing to do for our country. If our auto industry had failed...we would have experienced a depression in America. The stock market DOW was barely hanging on in early Nov of 2008 and is now back up in the 13,000 range from dipping to 7000 under deregulation and George Bush. His regulations have also stopped the free-fall of foreclosures in this country. Our troops are out of Iraq and 10,000 Marines are on their way home from Afghanistan. We've had 29 straight months of job growth. Does all this fix the problems Obama inherited.....absolutely not. Does much more need to be done.....absolutely yes. But when a Republican House of Representatives votes down a Jobs Bill for this country, one has to see that Republicans are more interested in seeing this President fail than to see Americans return to work and save their homes. Obama did not meet all of his promises in the last 3 1/2 years, but it took 8 yrs under the prior administration to get us where we were, it is not going to turn around overnight. And it may take 8 years to reverse the damage done.
Mitt Romney is not the right man to be President of the United States, and I pray real people wth their own senses of whats right and whats wrong will open their ears and eyes to the truth in this election.
We all need to make an effort to spread teh FACTS. GOP have done a great job of making this and every election about lies and hate.
You sure make a whole lot of ASSumptions!
WhoTF are YOU to tell anyone they are shameful?
Stick to playing psychic over the phone, you SUCK when it comes to the internet!
It's the problem with people like you, your rage & hatred refuses to allow you to see anything grey!
It's all black & white you nut jobs!
There's a SHOCK!
I never would of guessed, given your compassionate demeanor! lmao!
PS: Pleased save your "you've met me shtick"... it's BS just like everything that flows from your excessively large pie hole!
There you go with the same old schtick about the poor, picked on wealthy people. When will you learn that Anne Romney and her ilk wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire. These are not generous folks who go out of their way to help others. They do if it helps them with public relations. She's already shown her contempt with the press when asked about their tax returns, going as far as using the term "you people." So if you're looking for sympathy here, you're going to be very disappointed.
Loving all of the strong women posters on here today about Anne Romney!
Ranting ... you don't count.
We don't want to be like Anne, nor are we full of jealousy. The issue is that she cannot relate to 99% of the women in this country. We have struggled with marriages, loans, divorces, deaths, and illnesses ourselves and we don't have therapeutic horses to get us through those difficult times. We do however, have each other and personally I enjoy and like the support I get from the posters on this site.
Redhead Ranting
Shame on you for thinking you are qualified to judge others who post here. With all the things you "suspect" here is some honest to goodness facts lady. You want to rant about everything from breast feeding to homeschooling to PTA meetings and state I'm probably divorced, who in the world do you think you are?
There was absolutely no hate in my comment regarding Mrs. Romney. You state you are divorced and at times envious of other women who have more than you.....what do you call that statement. My comment stated that women of America are not going to sympathize with Mrs. Romney if she is rolled out like a stepford wife and tells her tales of woe regarding her health battles. There was no hate in that statement and I never said she did anything wrong. It appears you have many issues yourself to deal with my dear. Not that I want to really discuss my personal life with you, but you called me out....I am married to the same man for 36 years, have three sons, (one of which is disabled after being hit by a drunk driver on his bike at age 9 and lost his leg) who is now 28. I've fought my way through school to receive a college education with a Master's degree while working full time, raising three kids, running the Childrens with disabilities program at our local school district, work as a Eucharist Minister at my church still to this day, took care of first my father at home while working before his death then my mother for 3 years (still while working) so she could spend her last days at home instead of a nursing home and was diagnosed with Breast cancer myself last November and have just undergone my 2nd surgery after months of chemo and Radiation.
I'd rather you DID LOOK UP TO ME AS BEING SUCCESSFUL rather than judge me for posting my opinion. You need to take a long look in the mirror lady and see who really has hate here. My guess is....you're the angry woman who despises successful women with brains and valuable opinions or perhaps you are of the belief women should be seen and not heard....hence your love of the new Republican party.

So for the RNC to be using “We Built This” as their theme is not ONLY A LIE, but an insult to Floridians. And for fellow Floridians who support this lie, shame on you!
@ StopThe Lies NOW
It takes 150,000 new jobs per month just to cover the new people entering the workforce. According to your figures Obama is minus 2.8 million over 42 months.
What's more concerning is the Mitt Romney has not produced his college records yet.
Don't you agree that a Presidents past should not be a secret?
Feisty, tonybeeerm, Lorraine and Fergie
The four of you should get together and go out and spend your welfare checks and bash the world together... Hate in the amount you all spew is really bad for your heart. As for your kids I hope they can survive your hate and horrible outlook on life, of course with the debt hanging over their heads that prospect is getting dimmer. What the four of you don't realize is life is way too short to spend most of it on hate filled garbage.
JOBS -- Obama adds 3.5 Million in just the past 2 years (this after Bush losing 750K per month) Thank You Mr. Obama. GOP WIL DO ANYTHING TO KEEP YOU FROM KNOWING THIS!!! They prefer rationalization and wishful thinking.
Romeny won't release his taxes and all the GOP can do is ask for MORE from Obama after he has released his taxes and his birth certificate... Romney --- why won't you release your tax records like Obama and your Father did before you? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING???
gmainco - do you ever say anthing of value or just run around insulting people? What a fine person you must be. what do you see in the mirror? LOL
Romney cannot win in MI, PA, MN, CO, and NV. Missouri, because of Akin's fiasco may move to Obama column, if you are to believe the latest Rasmussen poll released today. VA, and NC are tossups. So, if Romney wants to win the election, he has to win both Florida and Ohio (both are microcosm for the nation). That means, he has to appeal to a diverse audience, especially women and Hispanics.
Diversity in Republican party is a total joke, especially at the grassroots level. If you go to many of the teapubs meetings, they are 95% filled with whites and a few sprinkles of Hispanics and blacks here and there, like a few sprinkles of rosewater on cupcake. They have a fundamental problem with women and minority. Their beliefs not given in any order:
After I laughed myself silly at Redhead Ranting for her ridiculous post I realized this: she simply cannot understand that Queen Ann (let them eat cake) Romney would think that she was both divorced and poor because she is the "undeserving". See, redhead, Ann has made it clear that "you people" have less because you deserve less. Not like her, so wealthy, because God finds her pleasing, and therefore blesses her.
Now. poor redhead will not be able to discern the cynicism contained in the above, so let me spell it out for her.
Queen Ann (let them eat cake) Romney did NOTHING to deserve wealth. She didn't work for it, and it multiplied because her hubby has been ripping off the middle class for years.
Many people lost all they had when Mittens bought out their employment, bled the company dry, let it go bankrupt and moved on.
You are too stupid to get that due to the protections set up for the wealthy, there comes a point where MItty doesn't have to do anything to get richer. It just multiplies.
And in the meantime, he steps a little harder on you, and takes what little you have.
If you are a single mother, trying to raise kids and you vote for Romney? You are a fool!
Thank you Charlie. You're a good guy. I voted for you and it is a crime you weren't elected. Now we're stuck with crazy, Gov Scott.
Frank,
[It takes 150,000 new jobs per month just to cover the new people entering the workforce. According to your figures Obama is minus 2.8 million over 42 months.]
Given those numbers then Bush 43 should have created 14.4 million jobs during his 8 years but he only had a net gain of 3 million so he was actually negative 11.4 million jobs.
I am curious if Mitt is going to tell the delegates that he will not sign any abortion bill that does not include exclusions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. That is the Republican Party platform they are giving him. That is their goal. It would be nice to be able to take the man at his word, but history teaches that is simply not possible.
And hopefully people will see thorugh these GOP LIARS that are trying to swindle the middle class from the benefits of Medicare.
How can Paul Ryan present his asinine "Plan" by cutting taxes, increasing the military budget, and continue giving millionaire subsidies to big oil???
His math is WRONG. The New York Times reported this.
http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2012/08/martin-wolf-explains-what-is-very-wrong-with-paul-ryan-and-mitt-romney-in-words-of-one-syl.html
Feisty Redhead, or should I say Jennifer Psaki.
You are one ugly chick, both inside and out.

I have a friend that worked for South Florida Water Management. Before the election Rick Scott could walk on water and was going to be the best Florida governor ever. I love to talk to him now about the man, however I cannot post what he has to say about his golden boy. I have an idea if Mitt is elected, voters will have the same remorse about him. It is difficlut to understand how anyone that has changed his position so many times can be taken seriously.
People, that don't have a clue, will post anything on this rag. Bush got TARP through. If you are going to credit anyone, it would be him. If you really want to learn the facts behind the 2008 financial crisis read Reckless Endangerment (How outsized ambition, greed, and corruption led to the economic armageddon).
Unemployment, under Obama, has increased from under 7% to 8.3%. You talk about the jobs added but not the ones that were lost. The only jobs added were the 130,000 government jobs but even more private sector jobs were lost. Sadly, the 8.3% doesn't include the people that are underemployeed or have just given up looking.
You can thank Obama for the GNP that has fallen to 1.5% and $5 trillion added to our debt with nothing to show for it.
gmainco
Where in my comments did you see hate. And quite frankly, you're as bad at assumptions at Ms. Redhead Ranting who got collapsed. How would you read my post and make a determiantion I am on welfare? Is that just your opinion of women who are educated. we are on welfare. we are less than. It was an insulting statement to make, but that is probably a reflection of your communiation skills. My dear......I farrrrrrrrrrrrrr make moe money than you could probably imagine and don't qualify for welfare and have never not held a job since the age of 18. Somehow women who express ideas intelligently are ridiculed and accused of being haters....by the same people who spew.nothing but hate and sarcasim. You are the one making derogatory assumptions and you know the old saying pal....to assume makes you an a__.
Bush got TARP through -
You sure don't have a clue............ Obama got most of it paid back with the threat of greater regulation and Bush did not push it... he was forced to sign it. Dumb.
Jobs,
Can you read a graph? I'm about to post one as my avatar that should help you....
Let's get this straight. The democrats don't want to see Romney's tax returns. The democrats want all the GOP to see Romney's tax returns. That would cause the GOP seriously to consider dumping that tax cheat from their nomination. Democrats won't vote for Romney anyway. The democrats know he cheats, lies, and flip flops obsessively.
Romney 1040
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
ir12 - Florida is crazy. The Republicans in Sarasota are voting Donald Trump "Statesman of the Year" today. I can't explain it except to say there are tons of old folks. I live in a town that is overwhelmingly Conservative but the neighborhood I live in is overwhelmingly Progressive due to the proximity of two college campuses, an art school, and a museum. Lots of students and professors. If it wasn't for this neighborhood, I don't know if I could survive. No Romney signs in yards or Romney bumper stickers. It is an oasis in a sea of craziness.
Graph at left: RED = job losses/Adds under BUSH. BLUE= Job losses/Adds under Obama. GOP, how can you not see the truth here? Obama turned the Bush nightmare around and if you can't see this you need help. GOP YOU NEED HELP!!!
I guess you need to click on my moniker to see my profile pic... graph.
Goodness. Rush Limbaugh has been laying a lot of eggs in the brains of his dittoheads. The fact is (yes, there's that word fact, again) that unemployment began to skyrocket during the last year of the blighted Bush administration, rising from 5.0% in January to 7.3% in December. It continued to rise as a consequence of the rampant failure of Bush's economic policies until it peaked in October 2009 at 10.0% and it has been hammered down since then to 8.3%...not an easy task considering the mess President Obama inherited.
Nice story, though. Too bad it's a lie.
Who listens to Rush? Right wingers that want a good laugh and left wingers that want to crucify him.
I haven't listened to his show in years, BTW.
Okay Gmainco, I get it now. The hate we spew is shameful, but the hate you spew is acceptable. I guess I should tell my son who is studying to be a teacher to give it up because it's not a worthy profession and you'll never get wealthy from it, right? You batsh!t crazies know no bounds, do you?
StopTheLiesNOW
I can only stand so much B.S. and you all have spewed enough today to run around the earth a few times over. So far you only seem to be able to hit Romney with his tax forms and that is really getting old. You still are parading the tarp around as a hit but can't answer how you think it is such a success when only 32 have paid it back out of the hundreds that took the money, of course since the country is still in such bad shape they probably can't just like a lot of people are still hurting. That still shows it as not being a success. When your kids are saddled with a huge mountain of debit they will never get paid off then you can listen to them blame you for not doing something about it when you still could. Oh well you will probably still be blaming Bush (and no I do not think he was a good president) but I don't think our present commander in chief is doing any better. I was raised to live within my earnings (and yes it can be hard but personally rewarding when you accomplish it) so try it sometime. You might try living up to your name also and really stop the lies. You are just spewing what the left media keeps feeding you. You don't even try to reword it, just keep spewing the lies...
Sure! MANY women in the US should feel really "sorry" for Ann Romney. She has not only had teh BEST CARE THAT MONEY CAN BUY, BUT HER HUSBAND IS promising to leave everybody else with MS, that does not have insurance, out in the COLD, BY eliminating the Health Plan of President Obama. NICE!!!
Lorraine
Where in my comments did you see hate?
______________________________________________________________________________-
I see it in the fact you want to dismiss her having MS and breast cancer because she has money. The pain and fear of both those illnesses are same with or without money. You are all spewing your hate because someone has money. If you are not on welfare then congratulations but there are a lot of us right there beside you and most of us are tired of the 50% that aren't paying anything into this country and are happy when the rest of us pay into it but then are told how we aren't doing enough for them so give more. No I am not in the $250,00.00 but after Obama took over my taxes went up $600 a year so don't tell me He only wants more from the rich. I'm just tired of Government trying to run my whole life. They want to regulate what I can earn, how I can earn it, where and how to spend it including what to eat, drink, how to raise my kids, what insurance I have to have. I just want them to stop the micro managing and try to do the jobs were orginally set up for them. You all want to hollar about them not telling us women what we can do with our own bodies but you want them to pay for your birth control and abortions and will let them micro manage the rest of your life.
O.K. I feel better now so you can all go back to bashing each other and not listen to any other ideas that might make you a little more informed.

When i was diagnosed the end of last year with beast cancer, I was also lucky that I have great health insurance and have had options available to me that most women in America do not. And I have not had to worry about paying my medical bills. But my point which started in the earlier post #1.8 was that most women in America DO NOT have the advantages that Mrs. Romney has had. They will not be able to relate to her, her history of medical issues, and her struggles because in their eyes...she had the best of the best just as you say in your post. I have been slammed by Gmainco, who got collapsed for his comment, for being a hater. I have empathy for Mrs. Romney...as I know what it feels like to receive a devastating diagnosis...but American women will find it hard to find empathy for a woman who took the stance she took in a nationally televised interview last week referring to Americans as "you people" regarding their tax returns. Nor will they empathize with a woman who rides horses for therapy, is ranked #1 last year in a New England Riding club, travels the world without any difficulty, and has little to no concept of real women's lives in this country.
It is unfortunate, but An Romney will not gain support or empathy from most main stream American women regardless of her speech on Tuesday....hopefully, she'll keep her speech to talking about her boys, he love of family, and introduce her husband. Most women really don't want to hear anything else from her at the convention, let alone a pity party about when she was diagnosed with M.S. She will loose American more women votes for her husband.
KimH, have you had the luxury of seeing Alan West's commercials? I was called last week on one of his telecoms. He related a story of how he was assigned to a sorry artillery battery (his words, not mine). He was telling why he would be a good selection for congress because he was able to whip it into shape by working with the individuals in the unit. I tried to ring in to ask a question, but was unable. I wanted to ask him how successful he thought he would have been if half of his unit stated it was their desire to make him fail and refused to cooperate with him. Of course we know that is not the way the military works. It is apparently the way Congress works.
Gmainco
You flip from one subject to another and still seem to want to go on the attack toward me. You jump from taking about paying fair share of taxes to the government telling you what to do, to telling me a 59yr old woman about me wanting the government to pay for my contraception and abortions....you are all over the place pal.....with not one coherant thought. Your theme is absolute hatred as you claim of others and it's pretty sad...you've called people names in your post today...made sarcstic remarks about them, you've been rude and critical when people have just thrown ideas around and you base your OUTRAGE on posters and the government and who ever else you are mad at....get a grip.
WOW! Delusion runs rampant on this blog.
LorraineH
I am really sorry you had breast cancer but join the club (sorry but I am a woman) and no I am 68 years young and don't need birth control or an abortion but I still don't want to pay for anyone else, including my children and grandchildren to have those things either. They need to be responsible and pay for themselves on those "choices". You seem to think I was only talking to you and not several people that have many of these things they seem to think they are due. I have learned that life is way too short to be angry at a person because they have money and can ride a horse. As I have heard it said how many working people are working because Ann can afford a horse. All the way from the person that feeds that horse down to the person that grows that feed. So try to look at the positive side instead of how out of touch you think she is. That should be reserved for people that only really personally know her. I'll make you a deal you respect my thoughts on government and I'll respect your thoughts on government.
StopTheLiesNOW,
Your facts are real interesting in the fact that although I found them in liberal sites I could find no independent sites that supported what you are stating. I do not mind facts but looking to the Huffington Post, New York Times or even Fox does not give the facts the way they should be presented. Facts do not lie, but when they are twisted to support either party then they become a lie. So next time back up what you are stating with a reputable source and I would be more then happy to research them and support them, but to give numbers out without any backing is just more political nonsense that is being used by both parties to mislead the electorate.
Gmainco
I wish you would go back and re-read my original post which all of this is about #1.8. No where in that post did I say anything hateful about Mrs. Romney and I expressed an opinion that the Republican party would be best served NOT to use her as to waltz her out on stage and try to gain empathy from American women. That is what the article was about.....Romney losing ground in Florida and his polling numbers with women. There was never a discussion regarding my political view. I am a registered Republican who is totally disgraced by the Republican party turning so far right to please a very small part of the ultra conservative base and tea party movement.
You decided in your post (which was collapsed) to address 4 individual posters including myself and basically make a remark about us stating
It was uncalled for and was a very derogatory remark. I am a Republican, Catholic, Professional woman and the Republican party does not represent me any longer. Their far, far right wing conservative ideals do not meet with my main stream American values, including the rights of women. That is what the discussion was about....the discussion was regarding Florida women voters, and you turned it ugly. I'll make you a deal....try to remember what it was like in the workforce for women of our general age group. Everything I said in my posts were directed at equality for women and how out of touch Mrs. Romney is with that factor. She never had to fight those glass ceilings. All of us who did, don't want politicians in office who will make that fight all for nothing. And just for the record....and you'll have to trust me on this one because I've spent more than half my working life in Medical reimbursements and payor economics with an MBA, not a single penny of your tax dollar now or ever has gone to pay for one abortion in this country. Government and State funds are not used for Abortion. It would never have been a choice for me, but who the heck am I to tell another woman it CAN'T BE HER CHOICE.
And on a final note....I don't care how much money people have....never have cared. Why would someone be angry at someone else because they have a lot of money. What I do care about though is that I paid a 23.6% income tax rate last year and the Romney's paid 13.9%. Tell me how that is fair. People like me should be angry, and so should you. On that note....I wish you well and end any further discussion with you.
Charley Crist left the GOP because the GOP didn't want to re-elect a closeted gay with a beard wife. Can you blame them? I'm sure the dems would take him though.
Now that you mention it, John, doesn't your wife have a beard?
Mickey NY
So eloquently put, but sadly it's not the truth. Obama is leading this nation down the road to disaster and only a fool would fail to realize just what his agenda really is. His leadership has failed as is reflected in the economy and the unemployment, not to mention the never ending spending spree he is unable to control. If reelected (God forbid) he will make you, as well as all who voted for him, beg forgiveness for their part in getting him reelected.
g
Barack Obama has:
Signed the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) Bill into Law allowing any US citizen to Be Detained WITHOUT trial (A federal Court Blocked it in May because it Violates the Constitution, but Obama is not trying to get it UNBLOCKED!).
He has Killed HUNDREDS of Innocent people (Including 3 American Citizens) in Pakistan and Yemen with Drone Strikes (He's Ordered even more drone strikes than Bush!).
The rate of National Debt under George Bush was Around $60 Billion a Month. Under Obama, it's been $190 Billion a Month, so that would be Nearly $600 Per US Citizen (Thanks Obama!).
Obama Care: Page 22. MANDATES, The Government will Audit Book of ALL Employers who Self Insure. Page 50, Section 152, Health Care WILL be Provided to ALL Non US Citizens, Illegal or otherwise. Page 126, Lines 22-25, Employers Must Pay for Their Part time Employees Health Care AND Their Families. Page 127, Lines 1-16, The Government WILL Tell you How much Money you can Make.
Obama has By-passed Congress to Enable the DREAM Act (Unconstitutional to By-Pass Congress, and the Illegals he allowed to become Legal Citizens has Committed over 19 Murders and Over 142 Sex crimes).
Obama Claims he Campaigned in 57 States (Maybe he wasn't Born in this Country?).
I'm NOT a Romney Supporter, but I would say Vote anyone BESIDES Barack Obama. And if Obama Gets Re-elected, buy Guns.
If Matt Stone and Trey Parker find themselves in need of dialogue for their next episode of South Park, they should look no further than this thread. It's so utterly hilarious...FL??? Are you kidding me...the same state that became sooo important because the PRESS screwed up the 2000 election due to their irresponsible and premature prediction of who won FL....and since then pathetic people continue to cling on it...This argument and the level of effort in it's debate is frigging hilarious. It's a Monday and am laughing my ass of at this...NBC News really needs to change their website to Comedy Central...
"If Romney were to lose Florida, he would need to sweep every single of the 8 states rated a "toss-up" on NBC’s battleground map..."
If Obama loses Wisconsin, ..oops, First Read doesnt spin that way...Obama's glass is always half full, Romney's half empty.
There is bad blood in Florida as many were crushed by the Depression. I left as there we no jobs and lived in FL for 35 years. This IS the pivital State and is no gimme for either side.
Obama has additional problems in Florida. First he screwed them over by his gross mismanagement of the Gulf oil spill; then he provided weapons to the drug cartels who represent a serious danger to the citizens of the state; and then he hides behind executive privilege to cover up his role in that fiasco.
Florida voters would be well-advised to vote for Romney/Ryan.
/
Why is Nevada's governor in Florida when he should be in Nevada creating jobs, which he should be doing?
Alrighty then,,,,
The GOP has CRYSTAL BALL TO SEE WHO IS ON WELFARE AT ALL TIMES. The word "welfare" has become a dirty word, instead of being a word that means help and assistance to people
The GOP is DEMONIZING everything that helps others. Hopefully one day all of you will need help, and your policies will come and bite you in the a****
The GOP isn't demonizing welfare by saying that you have to be actively looking for work.
Of course not. They are ONLY SAYING THAT nobody on welfare is looking for work, thAT Obama has change the laws about that, and people are just sitting around-everybody that is a Democrat- waiting for the welfare check.
You guys DON'T EVEN REALIZE HOW STUPID THAT SOUNDS!!!!! Never mind that the BULK OF RECIPIENTS OF welfare are people that vote republican in the Red States.
How ignorant!!!!!
"The GOP isn't demonizing welfare by saying that you have to be actively looking for work."
No, they are demonizing welfare by assuming that everyone isn't.
Now that's funny!
Why, oh why, would they want to vote for the same party that screwed them so badly? So they could do it again?
Doug-3495307
The GOP isn't demonizing welfare by saying that you have to be actively looking for work
...........Doug, Doug, Doug,.....oh, nevermind, people like you never get it, just read the GOP/TP supporter posts to these threads, many say people don't want a job, that's pure BS, and that is exactly what people like you are saying. By the way, I am really ticked off at the DEMs for not cracking down on the waste, fraud, and corruption in these programs, it exists and they have shown no inclination to do anything about that, so no one is innocent here. See, I'm not a liberal, just an anti-BS, Middle Class working person activist.
Sorry but I have seen people that are 3rd and 4th generations of welfare so don't tell me there isn't abuse. The system should be monotered for abuse and corruption but the government doesn't want to hurt anyones feelings unless you make over $250,00.00 and then it is O.K. since we are all sure they have to be crooks and cheating the rest of us out of our fair share. Grow up and realize the government is screwing all of us by not doing their jobs and getting very very very well paid for the rest of their lives by doing nothing. Wow welfare at the Washington level.
Hey old people in Florida. Keep voting Republican to help get rid of Medicare and privatize Social Security.
Just another ignorant liberal.
it has an exit lane in November.
I love how both sides come out with astonishing numbers usually quoted by the Huffington Post or some ultra conservative outlet that have no bases in facts. For once could you please give sources that are reputable for your information or is that too hard for one to do that believes everything they are told by whatever party they support.
Yeah, you can tell the old blind folks on here. Always typing in caps lock or bold. Too ignorant to understand how to make the font larger with your browser... It really makes me wonder about their politics. I mean, if there is not enough curiosity to figure out how to fix the font how do they do enough research about their party?
Oh, they don't.... Never mind...
Check this out when they run the numbers.
Romney-Ryan plan would raise health care costs for current 65-yr-olds on Medicare by $11,000 on average - by nearly $60,000 for future retirees.
Congressional Reform Act of 2012
1. No Tenure/No Pension
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days
for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message.
Don't you think it's time?
THIS IS HOW WE FIX CONGRESS!
You are one of my 20+ ... please keep it going, and thanks!
We're ALL in this mess together ... it's up to us to fix it - for our children and their
I believe that it was Romney himself that stated "I'm not concerned about the very poor, we have a safety net there if it needs repair i'll fix it..." Doesn't that go against the GOP mindset of smaller government? Obviously he is satisfied with the way welfare is working...
Willard's already lost Florida by appointing Paul Ryan as his running mate.
Willard has not lost a dam* thing; if we do not get out and vote. Remember 2010.
Obama/Biden 2012
easy Exito, we'll be voting even though the right is trying to suppress it. Mid terms are often low voter turn outs and although no excuse, that's why the losers of the previous presidential election, often gain ground. Remember 1994 when Newt the Snoot proudly announced they were back in charge, only to get spanked in 1996. This is pretty much the same thing. But thanks for reminding everyone that yes, you must definitely vote to keep these scum sucking teabags away from any kind of decision making power.
Please, please, pleeeeeese, would one of you Barry lockstep loving liberals please tell me it am better off than I was four years ago.
"We need to re-distribute the wealth," "yes massa." We need to spend billions bailing out union controlled corporations," "yes massa." We need to tax the rich, so the government can spend more." "yes massa." "you are not capable of taking care of yourself so I will," "yes massa." "It's all Bush's fault," "yes massa." "Don't worry, if I get re-elected I will find someone to blame the last four years on," "yes massa."
floyd, take your racist rants somewhere else. We are smart enough to know the real reason you hate this president so much. If you were to try and make a living fooling people, you'd go broke within a month.
How is President Obama responsible for your 50 IQ?
This is Romney/Ryan's base talking. Middle-class wealth has already been re-distributed upwards. Last I checked banks don't have union employees. President Obama extended the Bush Era tax cuts. People who disagree with republicans have education, jobs and wealth while taking care of themselves. Yes, it is Bush's fault. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 to 1941 and the second Great Recession of 2008 was stopped from being the Second Great Depression. You expect that the level of damage done would be erased in three (3) years?
How can a reasonable, educated and civil-minded individual etch-a-sketch this repugnant representation of shared republican ideals and vote for the lying ring-master of these clowns? Do you think for a single second Romney will even try to keep any reasonable promise to voters over his financial benefactors?
How many have considered that Ryan is Romney's Cheny? Please tell me who's agenda will it be given that both Romney and Ryan have long ago sold their middle-class souls? I personally am better off than i was five (5) or six (6) years ago!
floyd- obviously you didn't take advantage of low interest subsidized student loans, or the American Opportunity Tax Credit that many Americans did for their higher education.
floyd, I would bet my last buck that if you have a savings account or any kind of stock, it's worth a LOT more than it was four years ago. As for you personally, given your very racist post, I'm not surprised you're not doing all that well.
Because money is more important than anything else, and he needs to be with the rest of the a*** kissers in Florida.
tonybeeerm, As a senior citizen, I see Ryan as a breath of fresh air. You don't think we care about the $16 trillion debt? We know that the democrats haven't passed a budget in nearly four years even when they had all of the power during the first two years of the Obama administration. We know that the Ryan plan will not effect anyone over the age of 55. If we don't get a hold of this debt, it will ruin this country. I'm not rich but I'm tired of seeing my tax dollars being wasted. Tax and Waste, is the democrats way.
Well good for you, Doug. You'll get your chance on Nov. 6 to vote for candidates that will end the middle class as we know it. If you're good with that, then rock on. I'm not. And btw, i'm not too far behind you either.
How about the MILLIONS that are 50, 51, 52, 53 and 54? Do you think that they can just keep on working for another 50 years? What is the difference between a 54 and a 55 year old person? Paul Ryan, that is in his 40's, in good health, and has a lot of money.
You think like a typical Republican: I got mine, everybody else can go straight to h***
Doug, how much of that $16 trillion debt did Ryan vote for? Talk is cheap.
Doug is only thinking about his pocket book_— I am also a senior citizen and I'm sure that I'm a bit older than Doug Lived though every president since Calvin Coolidge and was homeless during the Hoover Days bet he wasn't even alive to remember Hoover. Republicans has tried to do away with social security ever since FDR . Romney's clan says the poor doesn't need educated so do away with education loans. Students can borrow from their parents if the parents is wealthy enough . Rape the elderly and poor so the wealthy can have a tax cut.
Do not discount the number of AARP members in Florida, AARP considers you a senior at 50 and they do not want to see major changes to SS, Medicare or Medicaid. Many 50 year old's have parents in nursing homes and that bill is paid by Medicaid not medicare.
mugsysrapsheet.com:
Barely a year in office, after slashing corporate and upper income taxes on the grounds “we had a surplus”, President Bush was telling his Republican Congress that the Treasury Department would have to resort to “extraordinary steps” to avoid a government default on payment to bondholders if the debt ceiling were not raised by June 28th, 2002. The measure was so insignificant to House Republicans at the time, raising the debt ceiling didn’t even merit its own bill (part of “HR 462″), tacking “S.2578″ onto a military construction appropriations bill. On June 27th, Reps. Ryan, Cantor, Pence and Boehner all voted “Yea” to raising the Debt Ceiling (pdf) to $6.4Trillion dollars.
On April 27, 2003, the debt ceiling was raised again from $6.4Trillion to $7.384Trillion. Just 12 Republicans and every Democrat but one (Ralph Hall of Texas) voted “No” on H.Con.Res 95. And yes, Ryan, Cantor, Pence & Boehner all voted to raise the debt ceiling once again.
One year later, after failing to pass a budget altogether for 2004 (I’m looking at you Mr. Cantor, who chastised Democrats on “Meet the Press” yesterday for “failing to pass a budget last year”), President Bush again called on Congress to raise the Debt Ceiling for the third time in less than four years. HR 586 was passed with a simple voice vote, evenly split along Party lines, with Democrats strongly opposed.
On April 28, 2006, the House passed the Senate bill to to raise the Debt Ceiling once again from $8.184Trillion to $8.965Trillion (H.J. Res.47). Once again, in response to harsh criticism by Democrats, the House voted “by special rule” that prevented any recording of who voted and how, but not a single Democrat voted to raise the Debt Ceiling for the fourth time in five years.
And finally, in 2007, once Democrats regained control of both houses of Congress, the next time President Bush told Congress to raise the Debt Ceiling, suddenly House Republicans became “fiscal Conservatives”, agreeing to abide by whatever the Senate agreed to (so they wouldn’t be on-the-record as having voted for their fifth increase in five years). “House J.R. 43″ passed the Senate with more than half of the 48 Republican senators voting to raise the Debt Ceiling once again.
thinkprogress.org:
Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan has gained an undeserved reputation as a “fiscal hawk,” touting his “Path to Prosperity” budget as a responsible plan to rein in what he describes as a “path to debt and decline.” But Ryan’s votes in Congress show that he is as guilty as anyone of running up the nation’s debt.
A Center for American Progress Action Fund analysis shows that Ryan voted to add a grand total of $6.8 trillion to the federal debt during his time in Congress, voting for at least 65 bills that either reduced revenue or increased spending.
I surely do remember what my portfolio did when Bush was in office. Do you conservaturds remember?
How about a big shout out for Clayton! You've been around since Coolidge would put you in your late eighties. About the same age as my parents if they were still alive. Both of them were lifelong, die hard Democrats that never took a penny of government money and worked hard for everything they had. You sound like you're the same. And the fact that you are still posting your thoughts is wonderful. Still full of pi$$ and vinegar. Him, I like.
I agree with the shout out for Clayton ... I also agree with his politics .... ♥
yosolo - take your cut and paste chain mail garbage and put it somewhere where the sun will never bless it with it's rays.
yosolo -
I find it interesting that you are talking about things that have happen in May then Obama was bringing in the conversation about Romney's stint at Bain Capital. And to be fair, yes, these things were said by those "staunch" Democrats however, if you have notice the conversation has shifted to other things like medicare, debt and tax increases and welfare ALL of which those same "staunch" Democrats you say were bad mouthing the president are NOW coming to his defense of the LIES and malicious attacks that Romney is doing with his OWN ads.
Funny how you are not talking about fact that as well.....
Older voters have no reason to trust Republicans on medicare, since they have trying to get rid of it for decades. Anything that helps the middle class is bad for Republicans. However, if you mention subsidies for oil companies or tax breaks for the wealthy, Republicans are all over it. Welfare for the wealthy is Republicans mantra this year.
As the true middle class is Republican, your comment is ridiculous (as are your other Marxist comments).
Thanks San Tan, you said it for me.
San: You may think that, but, I believe you may be proved wrong. Many true middle class are women, and women are not thrilled with republicans right now.
It seems that we hardly have a true middle class anymore- -mostly it's those who have and those who pay for them to have it. Sorta reminds one of the medieval days when the "ruling class" had all the money and power and "allowed" the serfs to live on their land and harvest their crops (so they could make more $$ of course).
middle class woman like myself, are tired of obamass lavish vacations and spending. Romney 2012
What exactly is the TRUE middle class? Would that be someone that looks like your avatar; a fat-assed pale, male, stale Archie Bunker bigot type of guy? I believe the middle-class much broader than that definition.
@San Tan Since when did it become Marxist to oppose welfare for the wealthy? I thought conservatives opposed welfare...
kat, you need a vaginal probe shoved up your arse. . . .
kat315, the only thing this middle-class woman is tired of, is waiting on MITTENS to SHOW US HIS TAX RETURNS!!!!!!!!!!! It's been months now and he's still side-stepping the issue. It if very important to me and those of my ilk, who wonder if he's going to play hide and seek with our tax dollars if he gets into the White House.
You can always get a job cleaning up after the Romney clan, following them around and having lavish vacations. Be careful though, you piss the Mrs. off and Mitt will enjoy firing you.
Lola you must have a pretty cushy job/life if all you worry about is Mitt Romney's taxes. Why do YOU want to see them? What do YOU expect them to reveal?
In other words do you even know why the liberals want to see them?
Kat- I'm right there with you.
RedDevPS right on!
lil and Red
What is your definition of the middle class? I've seen some ridiculous biased polls that include all sorts of people who are no where near being in the middle class just so the pollsters can "prove" their own bias. The middle class is not, of course, all Republican. Due to some addled Christian Right pronouncements, the liberals have jumped on the Republicans as being anti-woman rights. They are not, and I would think that middle class women would want their middle class children to grow up in a free environment not lorded over by and dependant on a socialist Government.
If the majority of the middle class was not Republican, we would have no need for an election as the lower class Democrats would overwhelm the Republicans (and we all could be the serfs to the Socialists). We know that not to be the case - the election will be close.
Red, my ass isn't fat, my skin is tanned, and I am bigoted only towards seditious socialists like yourself. Middle class Republicans vary by race, religion (or lack of it), and ethnic background. But they do believe in American Values and Way of Life. They are not freeloaders and they pay federal income taxes. I doubt that many of your fellow travelers can honestly say the same.
kat ... all I can say is that you speak for yourself (and the Ranting thing). The rest of us (middle class strong liberal females) prefer NOT to have the government in charge of our reproductive rights. Maybe probing Bob will open a clinic and you and Ranting can have him perform your annual check-ups.
rich1018791 you are obamabot. so go kiss up to your monkey king.
Oh Please, I know that you think that the few people around you -all those that listen to Hank Williams Jr.- are the BULK of the 'Middle class" But you should know that there are many blacks and latinos that are part of that middle class, even though all of you lump them with welfare recipients and illegal aliens.
kat - Well - you just showed you ass. Bend over and kiss any credibility you hoped to have goodbye. I'm sure Ranting Red Thing wants to be your friend now.
Lola1234, They want to see Romney's tax returns so they can show the liberals what a tax return looks like. This is just another smoke screen to get away from Obama's record of failure. He brought up Romney's dog, yesterday. Atleast Romney didn't eat it.
No President has been elected with unemployment at over 8%. Obama is running out of money and will not have the 2:1 war chest that he had against McCain. At his rate of spending, he might be out of funds in October.
Redhead Ranting.
Some believe Romney took advantage of the tax amnesty. Which would make him a tax dodger. It is a crime. I have no idea if it is true. I believe his backers are letting him get away with it because at the very least, his taxes will show how the rich manipulate the tax code to their advantage and would show the US population what needs to be fixed. Of course Romney and his friends do not want to share their secrets.
@San Tan
I am always amazed at so-called white male middle-class republicans discussing socialism as if they actually knew what they were talking about. San, clearly you are ignorant of what they stand for... I'm not trying to disrespect you but i see I have to point out your current beliefs.
First, you and the republicans in Washington are not the same. They simply use your vote but you're not invited to the celebration party! you won't receive privileges and free healthcare like them. Let me explain why... you support their ideology without understanding that they expect you to know nothing of what they represent.
For instance, you say you are a true-blue middle-class republican and bigoted against socialism. What if I told you that the party you belong to believes in Marxist rhetoric and sold you socialism in sheeps clothing? You would call me a liar... I can see you squirming... but it's true San Tan.
We both agree that your party's poster boy Reagan promoted "trickle-down" economics. It's a well known philosophy that promotes the lowering of barriers to produce supplies and services. In addition, by lowering income tax and capital gains. Moreover, by reducing regulations.
That all sounds good until you realize that the barriers, taxes and capital gains are being lowered at the expense of the middle and lower class.
What most republicans fail to admit is that another name for "trickle-down"economics is also called "supply-side" economics. An ideology highly promoted by Karl Marx. Karl Marx, leader of communism, socialism, marxism and materialism.
Today, Paul Ryan's is directly influenced by an atheist russian named Ayn Rand. She promotes individualism over collectivism. She advocated that colllectivists should be punished by pushing all the gains to individualists; much like the "trickle-down" philosophy has only "trickled-up" middle-class gains for the last 30 years. You see to the public Paul Ryan says he's a catholic but behind closed doors distributes the books of an athiest russian. Conflict of interest against the Catholic Church you think?
Then you have Mitt "mormon" Romney trying to sell you his brand of religion and politics. They know that you are so against a black President that you would entertain non-Christians in the "White" House.
Look it up... do some research and please do tell me why you call non-socialists (democrats)... socialists and align yourself with socialist (republican) policies? Also, please explain why republicans like you are so quick to trash communism but are ok with republcans who took loans on behalf of the U.S. with communist China?
You see... they laugh at you while using you because the code word for being a republican means anything caucasian. Why else would they use birth certificate, food stamp, medicare and welfare jokes? They are appeasing your general sense of white entitlement from a psychological vantage point. They want you to have non-white anger versus corporate welfare anger and so far... it's working.
You just trusted their definitions that changed over the years without a trace of research of whom the republican party really is. That explains why you vehemently and traditionally vote against yourself. They are psychologically capitalizing your self-hate.
Finally, tell me why republicans are outwardly against muslims but behind the scenes get their paychecks signed by terrorist funder Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin talal co-owner of Fox News? Even your boy Grover Norquist is married to a muslim.
Didn't Grover start the Islamic Free Market institute that has foreign nationals who are members of the Muslim Brotherhood? You've been hood-winked... bamboozeled and duped! You can always do the research and prove me wrong... but you are... at best incapable of unbiased research. So, carry on... but always know... we know who you are.
Give 'em hell, Chuck!
Gee! Why don't YOU REVERSE THAT QUESTION TO THE BIRTHERS IN YOUR PARTY!!!!!
Jesus Chuck, that's way too much information for someone like San Tan to absorb. I think you hit the nail on the head. The only reason he's for Romney is to get that half ni@@er out of the White House. The country be damned.
It is better to be thought a criminal than to release your tax returns and remove all doubt.
IRESPOND-2315268
Because I'm not a birther. Both extremes are embarrassments and only distractions. Which is why I pointed it out. Neither is relevant to the election or the governance of our country.
Romneyhood's tax returns are more private than kat315's vagina.
And... stinky!
Miklkit and Feisty - you are what is wrong with this country and the democratic party. You two, nearly single handedly, will lose the election for Obama. I'm beginning to think you work for the Tea Party.
@ chuck -
Thank you for checking San Tan. It's nice and refreshing to see someone who enjoys taking the time to "educate" those that feel they are "better" than others. You did miss one key point that I would like to address though.
San Tan - You stated that we pay are federal income taxes but yet you are willing to vote for someone that has done his best to hide his money overseas so that he can pay as little as possible in income taxes. THEN in the same breath you state that you "doubt" many can say the same......While we can all AGREE that Romney has paid taxes based on the partial tax return he has submitted, Shouldn't you also be upset as a "republican" and "conservative" because technically he hasn't paid his fair share????
It is simple Redhead. Romney wants to lower rates for his particular income level because he says they are to high for the "job creators". Lets see what to high really is.
It is the single issue that he has not flipped on, so it is most likely the single issue he holds dear. He will sell everything else out to achieve that goal. Aren't you curious as to what he believes are to much in taxes?
To give a pass on a time honored tradition of showing your taxes, and demanding a birth certificate (he was already vetted, and no president has ever had to publicly show theirs before) is just plain crazy.
Two compare the two is just as crazy or disingenuous.
Fiesty and mik are just saying it how it is, with a little extra humor. The other side uses hate and doom. Just watch/listen the commercial difference between a conservative broadcast and a liberal one. One says the world is going to end so you NEED to stock up on their special ration supplies. Or buy GOLD!! OMG the sky is falling down!! Mainly people trying to make a quick buck off paraniod and frightened people. Who gins the people up? Read some history about snake oil sales men.
2012 is proving to be an extraordinary election year.
Romney is playing dodgeball with the issues, making the mistake of thinking that being INSIDE THE CIRCLE is somehow 'WINNING THE GAME' while being forced by circumstance to spend most of his time trying simply NOT TO GET HIT.
Obama is on the rim throwing balls at Romney while failing to comprehend that beyond his circle is yet another, larger circle comprised of the electorate.
We, the electorate, are throwing balls at both Romney and Obama, but unwittingly, only Obama has his back turned to us. The problem for Obama is that even the balls aimed at Romney can take him down en route.
Mr. Obama, turn around on occasion and check what we're doing. It would be a shame for you to be knocked out of the game simply for focusing too completely on a captive target.
Many women out there are very obidient, and know how to "stand by their men", even when their men are a bunch of a***s, that prefer to PUT THEIR MONEY IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS, INSTEAD OF PAYING TAXES.
oH! but they are soooo concerned with the President taking vacations. They can see that, but REFUSE to see all the money that Romney has NOT PAID in taxes, and hides in Swiss accounts.
PATHETIC!
his promise to cut deficit in half is a failure. increased debt by 5 trillion. obamass is a failure. energy policy wasted tax money. all he knows is lavish vacations and golf. Romney 2012
nancy pelosi and her husband are very rich, and don't pay any taxes on there company in california. but that's ok there democrats. everyone else should pay instead. Romney 2012
Rich people put their cash in Swiss and Cayman Island banks. They also cut back on business expenses or move their businesses to areas with more favorable tax laws. Look at California. They increased taxes and collect less. 2,000,000 people have left California in just two years along with countless businesses. Rich people are mobile. When you tax small business, they cut employment or pass it on to consumers. Understand people, like Romney, make their money off of investments. The money that they use to invest, they have already paid taxes on it once.
Corporations are sitting on trillions of dollars that they could invest in the U.S.. That money isn't in the U.S. where we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. Accountants and CFOs are doing what they are being paid to do.
You know how we know that Romney has money in Swiss accounts? It is in the tax records that he presented. He isn't hiding the fact. It's what rich people do. He earned money and paid taxes. He invested that money and then paid capital gains taxes. After that, he can put it anywhere he wants.
Sure! Vote for Romney, so all you can see him go into REAL LAVISH VACATIONS. OR WHAT? DO YOU THINK THAT HE IS GOING TO invite you???? TO GO TO HIS MANY HOMES AROUND THE WORLD? Are you thinking that he will make things easier for you and your family by drilling and turning the US into a cesspool, because that is the business of the Koch Brothers: OIL.
Are you expecting an invitation to their home??? Take a seat, you will be WAITING A LONG TIME!!!!
@ Doug:
If Mitt Romney MADE HIS MONEY IN this country, he should PAID TAXES IN THIS COUNTRY. I AM NOT SURE WHERE YOU ARE PULLING YOUR NUMBERS, BUT HE HAS PAID A LOT LESS IN TAXES THAT MANY PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE CLASS.
Here you are. READ BY YOURSELF:
http://davidsimon.com/mitt-romney-paid-taxes-at-a-rate-of-at-least-13-percent-and-hes-proud-to-say-so/
Irespond, let's be fair......Mittens DID outsource a LOT of those jobs, so in a roundabout way, most of his money was made "abroad":)
apparently we are supposed to be more angry about what Romney does with his money, then what that jackass in the white house does with mine. Forward off the cliff.
Paul Ryan IS NOT IN THE WHITE HOUSE, HE IS A CONGRESSMAN, BECAUSE THE jackass IS GIVING SUBSIDIES to Big OIL. YES! that is what he is doing with your "precious" money and the money of many millions of people as well. Yours does not smell different.
chuck --- Thank you , well said on post #4.20
Kat - You are aware that the President doesn't set policy or determines where "your" money goes right? It's actually congress. Yes the President signs the budget, BUT congress sets the agenda and where your "precious" money goes. I do believe you need to redirect your anger to where the real problem lies......
Kat315
Why don't you go apply for a PELL grant, while they're still around, and take an English class. Your posts clearly define your IQ.
and I bet you think that will swing them your way, right Hughes? Got news for you, that will turn them off quicker than a running water faucet. Your attack ads are despicable and so full of lies it's hard not to want to do what Elvis did to TV.s.
"...independent voters won't be able to escape the week's festivities and speeches, either."
Really? This independent voter already has a plan to avoid the propoganda: If I spend any of my evening time watching television this next week, it will be only Animal Planet, History Channel, or HGTV (and I'll have the remote in hand, ready to hit "mute" for all commercials).
YOU MUST SEE THIS

Impact to Households
If the candidate's policies were fully enacted by 2015, these are the estimated impacts to all American households, factoring in changes to taxes and federal services. These results are based on a simulation using IRS and Census data.
Change to Deficit
Using the candidate's official budget from their campaign website, these are the expected changes to the national deficit by 2015.
Interesting site. Thanks.
That makes it easy for me. Vote blue and my income goes up.
Vote red and my income goes down.
Go Big Blue!
Ann Romney
Mitt Romney
Ann Romney
Bold, and upper case I added above in the quotes, but, did that woman really say those things, "principle of sacrifice?" $200+million, their net worth, and she is sacrificing, and not being too tied to the things of the world?
Did Mitt and Ann Romney really say those things? Talk about being out of touch with reality.
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
I like the fact Mitt the twit listed on his voter registration for Massachusetts the address of his son's unfinished basement. Would love to see pics of their digs! It might endear the Romney's to America if they were seen living as regular people, rather than ones who have an elevator in their car garage. Alas, it probably was just another dodge for Whiny Willard. His whole life has been predicated on dodging taxes and regulations that apply to the average citizen.
I was surprised there isn't a band from Switzerland or the Cayman Islands appearing at the Republican Convention. Since the candidate and many of his investors/donors have their money stashed in those places, it makes perfect sense. :)
What I find more interesting is when I travel the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, the Appalachians, the amount of "Anybody but Obama," bumper stickers is outrageous. Now we know, those states are majority white, and a vast amount are on government welfare/foodstamps, but these people believe Romney is FOR THEM! It's stituations like that, that makes me believe no one wants to tell the truth about the fact this Presidential Race, is based on RACE, when you have a group of white people who rely on government assistance, willing to put someone in office who has threatened SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Foodstamps...all what they need to survive.
Here's a few facts:
http://www.heraldsun.com/view/full_story/5041196/article-Food-Stamp-Belt--Race--politics--poverty-in-the-South
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
Brian J. Ask George Clooney if he can line up a band from Switzerland for the Democratic Convention as he hosted a fund raiser there last month.
You missing a very important point. Just receiving government handouts, doesn't automatically make them Democrats. You see, it's not just the rich that vote conservative, its the people that want the chance to better themselves that vote Republican.
The poor who are content to remain just where they are for the rest of their lives, vote liberal; and the liberals, of course, want them to stay poor, so they will keep voting for Democrats.
Welfare recipients in "Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, the Appalachians" have too much pride to want to remain welfare recipients forever. That is why they say "Anybody but Obama"!
Queen Ann cries because the loss of that money to the Mormons means she can't buy another "therapy horse" for half a million.
Wait. She graciously allows the "little people" the tax payers of this country do that for her, through the tax writes offs she feels are owed to her, because, well, she is one of the "chosen".
Queen Ann "let them eat cake" Romney, all artifice all the time.
Kannin, The welfare recipients in 'Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, and the Applachians' are all cousins seen in 'dueling Banjo's', their too stupid and inbred to know who they would vote for, and many of them are still fighting the Civil War. Obama is black and that's enough reason for them to vote for a Mormon moron and his 'Coke' brother supporters. . .
Kanin
That's a bunch of BS. What you are really saying is that they believe the Democrats are keeping them from being self-sufficient? That's it ALL the Democrats fault? Give me a break. The Republican mantra is supposed to be personal responsibility. I have family in WV in the Appalachians. They just hate government and buy the rhetoric that Republicans believe in 'small government'. Which if anyone actually KNOWS history and what has happened in the part that USA patent lie.
Both parties end up building a bigger government, it's the type each builds that are different. My relatives are really not involved enough to understand the difference. They vote based on bumper sticker slogans. These folks just hate government without really understanding it at all. Actually not very different from most Americans.
Have you seen what the EPA has done to the coal industry?
How does taking some of Americas poorest citizens livelihood away from them better their lives?
I'm definitely not for Romney, but what Obama's EPA is doing to our energy sector is pathetic.
We need weaned from foreign oil, and yet we destroy a viable energy sector that creates thousands of jobs here in the U.S.?
Why aren't those billions of dollars in oil subsidies being used to build scrubbers on power plants and creating even more jobs?
Big Oil has a strangle hold on our country, and regardless of who is President, they will continue to run the country the way they see fit!
Rich and dsb show themselves to be prejudiced, bigoted and arrogant. In other words, typical Democrats.
"Rural" is NOT synonymous with "stupid" and they show far more honesty and common sense than delusional liberals! Obama showed his contempt for mid-America four years ago when he said, "And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
People haven't forgotten that, and they are not going to be fooled by his condescending "folksy down-home" acts.
rich- they're all cousins:)
Kannin you're insulting rural households when you used the word "stupid", you must be republican.
I was quoting rich-1018791 Ramona. Learn to read.
Disabled Voter, If you've got black lung from breathing all that coal Dust you can thank the EPA for not making companies put more safety into those mines. . . .and then thank the Republicans for taking away affordable healthcare.
Kannin -- You insult everybody with your convoluted arguments. DSB knocked you out of the ring.
HERE is some info. for all of those that will vote for this man and his 3 "heavens"
here are three heavens and one hell. The three heavens are ranked from most holy to least by their “degrees of glory." The celestial kingdom is the most desirable, and serves as the destination for all those who accept Jesus, are baptized within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (whether before or after death), and remain faithful throughout their lives. People who die before the age of 8, when Mormons are baptized, also go to the celestial kingdom. The next most desirable heaven is called the terrestrial kingdom, which holds all those who don’t fully accept Jesus on Earth, but who are basically good people and accept him after death. The telestial kingdom is for those who never truly accept Jesus, and includes murderers, as well as “liars, and sorcerers, and adulterers, and whoremongers, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.” These unbelievers must first suffer for their sins, but eventually end up in a blissful place “surpassing the great understanding of men.”

ut_heaven_and_hell_.html
In other words, ANYBODY THAT IS NOT A MORMON WILL GO A "LOWER CLASSsHEAVEN. SO THERE YOU HAVE IT folks, if you are not "at the level" with Mitt Romney you will go to a third class heaven.
The 1% on this earth, and the 1% on the other....HA HA HA
Kind of describes the entire Republican party nowadays:
On Meet the Press Sunday, born-again deficit virgins John Cornyn and Pete Sessions could not explain any steps they would take to stem the flow of red ink they helped produce. But this weekend, both Republican leaders were crystal clear about their nostalgia for the economic policies of George W. Bush. While Senator Cornyn gushed "President Bush's stock is going up a lot" as people are looking back "with more fondness" on his administration...
I certainly don't! I remember the Bush administration:
...the numbers for Bush's last three months. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.
Dec 29, 2008 (Bloomberg) U.S. corporate earnings fell for a sixth-straight quarter, the longest streak in at least 20 years, as consumer spending on automobiles, homes and retailers collapsed.
My guess is that American voters remember as well. There is a very good reason that George W. Bush, the last Republican president, was NOT invited to the Republican convention in Florida.
Actually, you're missing the point, I don't believe anyplace in my post you will find I said they were "democrats." I said nothing about political party, but the fact is Romney and Ryan plan to not only cut Medicare/Medicaid/SS, but foodstamps also. Those people I spoke of have a better chance of eating while President Obama is in office.
It's nice how you'll try to turn things around, but the facts speaks for itself.
Here's another, change the topic when presented with facts on the negative aspects of their political choice. The EPA does nothing to feed people, and "big oil," well, Bush and his family have been in bed with big oil since Grandpa Prescott Bush worked on Wall Street during the Great Depression for Standard Oil. To further your education, did you know "Rolla C. Payne," President Obamas grandfather on his mothers side, worked side, by side with Prescott Bush at Standard Oil during that Great Depression? No, I know you didn't know that. So in reality, mostly all politicians are connected somehow, it's just that some treat the poor and elderly better than the one you're ready to vote for.
Try to keep up guys, I know it's hard but facts, are facts, and they are; the Appalachian whites on foodstamps would rather vote for Romney who will probably decimate their food stamps before they vote for President Obama, and it has nothing to do with jobs that some of them NEVER had, it's because of the racism they hold in their hearts.
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
Moshuluu - Be careful with those well pointed facts. The "conservative initiative" doesn't cater well to those of us that like to educate everyone else. They, in my opinion, prefer us to remain fixated on what's going on now instead of what got us here in the first place. Having said that. You took the words right out of my mouth when you counter Kannin's argument as you didn't mention any political party but that just goes to show you how he and the majority "thinks".
Kannin -
I'm particually surprised you even said this given your need to imply that all democrats want to stay on welfare but somehow these people don't. What makes you believe that? I'm still waiting on an answer by the way when I questioned you about this same issue a month ago when you made the claim that ALL democrats on welfare don't want to look for a job. I'm afraid that if you look at how many are on welfare in the states mentioned above and how long they have been on welfare you would probably have to rethink your statement as to maybe it's the other way around. Then again, it's just my opinion.
Disabled Voter - I'm sure if you went up to "coal country" and talk to those families who have lost loved ones in those mines and how the companies that own those mines do little if nothing to compensate them for their lost. Some will even tell you it's not about the money but rather the importance of making the mines safe. Yet these executives continue to contend that the mines are safe when we constantly hear whistle blowers that work in the mines, those that risk losing their job AND risk the welfare of their offspring ever working those same mines by coming out and saying how unsafe they really are. Yet these same executives, most that have NEVER worked in a mine let alone can tell you what they look like on the inside, keep fighting regulations AND the EPA so they don't have to spend money on making these mines safe for the workers.
When you decide on putting company profits ahead of human safety just so you can get your multi-million dollar bonus at the end of the year, That's what sad about America AND YET there are people in this great country that are willing to elect a man into the highest office that did the same thing a little over 15 years ago but claims he didn't. Go figure.......
The more moderate, that Romney becomes, the less his hardcore nut-job supporters will cheer. That won't stop them from voting (they REALLY hate the president), but he won't get the cheers he wants for this "show" in Tampa!
Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts makes him the most liberal candidate Republicans have ever nominated. His rhetoric though, is hard right stuff. Which Romney will govern if elected?
BRIAN, which will he be??? No one knows because even Willard himself does not know. That's what happens when you've spent your entire political career catering to whatever the current political winds have blown your way. There is not a single issue that he campaigned on in Masschussetts that he has not done a complete reversal on, abortion, gay rights, gun control, stem cell research, global warming, same sex marriage, work mandates, minimum wage, path towards citizenship for undocumenteds, you name it, he's changed his stance on it.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say he would go even further Right. Willard knows all too well that the Tea Crazies do not trust him along with the evangelical Reich Wing nutcases and will pounce all over him the instant he starts tacking to the center.
like Mitt said, trust me
Why was Mitt "liberal" as Governor. Democrat led house and senate. That's why.
This is what happens when someone with absolutely no core values runs for president. He was moderate as a Massachusetts governor because nobody gets elected as a conservative in Massachusetts. To win the nomination, he's had to be at least somewhat conservative. Now he's running to the right to keep the Tea Partiers from staying at home.
The only issue in which Romney has stayed consistent is his tax returns. He won't release those returns, no matter what, which makes just about everyone believe there is something there that is politically damaging. Even Ann Romney implied just as much in her interview when she said that doing so would give ammunition to his opponents.
Well, you know, he really isn't required to. There is no law that would force him to. The act of disclosing tax forms by presidential candidates is merely a tradition. Wanna guess who started that tradition? George Romney, Mitt's father, in his runup to the 1968 presidential election.
T. George Harris, George Romney's official biographer, recalled what led up to this historic disclosure:
"He balked when I badgered him for a copy of his latest Form 1040, the Federal Individual Income Tax Return," Harris wrote. "Release of the document, while it might serve a political purpose, would not prove very much, he argued. One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show, and what mattered in personal finance was how a man conducted himself over the long haul."
"Stumped by this argument, I was not prepared for the move that it eventually led him to make: He ordered up all the Form 1040's that he and Mrs. Romney had filed over the past twelve years —
I might vote for his father. I won't vote for Mitt Romney.
RobMe is Bush 2.0 since he has most of Bush's staffers on his staff.
Link? ...more libby psycho babble
And Obama is Jeremiah "God D'mn America" Wright 2.0!
Republican name calling.
Here's a link
and another link
and yet another link
and just so you can't say it is a fluke, another link
libby psycho babble, my ass!
EEngineer - You're going to put a conservative, Romney stumping faithful's eye out with all those links, lol.
Meteorologists are predicting Issac to glance by Tampa but with all the hot air billowing up from the convention site hurricane force winds could be created and cause a white tornado over Tampa!
Nothing would be funnier than to see all these fat 'rich' cat's stranded on the roofs of building in Florida during their Republican convention like those poor people when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans waving at helicopters seeking rescue. Then maybe we can wait a few days before we declare it a disaster and and few more weeks before Fema steps in and does anything only to remember we've cut government spending safety nets for the sake of paying down the deficit.
Rich
You know that won't happen. They have the means to get out quite easily. It's the people who live and work there who will pay the price if Issac causes damage. The Republicanswill simply flee and leave the locals to cleanup. Sad thing about it is that if elected, the Repubs will probably cut FEMA funding. You know, the new Repub mantra, why should the government actually help out the citizens in times of trouble. They think that personal responsibility trumps all, even to the extent of letting others suffer and die. We've seen it at the speeches ('let them die"). We've heard it throughout ('gat a job') and 'not my tax dollars'.
At one time in my life I found much of the Republican fiscal conservativeness just fine. But this new group who seem so 'me , me, me' aren't my idea of true Americans. It's sad to see such blatant hate for those less fortunate and yet they profess to be Christian. The only time their 'Christian' attitudes come out are in women's health issues. And I find those attitudes to be anti-woman and dangerous to American ideals.
The Republicans haven't just left their party behind, they are leaving American ideals behind. Very sad because they used to be a pretty good party.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
dsb, a very good essay. . . indeed.
They want to cut everything they can afford themselves, period. The one thing that they of course want to strengthen and put more tax payer money is the military. They haven't sucked enough out of the country to afford that... yet. Maybe in another 20 years if the income difference continues to grow they'll want to cut that because they will have their own.
It can only help Obama/Biden with former Gov. Christ endorsing Obama. States the GOP is too far right and extreme.
Crist left the Republican Party during his unsuccessful bid for a U.S. Senate seat in 2010 and is currently registered as having no party affiliation. Afterall, he was governor of Florida as a Republican in 2006, so I believe the only reason he left the Republican party is because of his loss in 2010, and he's giving a lil pay back, that's the ONLY reason he's endorsing President Obama.
OBAMA/BIDEN....2012!!!!
I don't know. It depends on how much Floridians respect Crist. If they don't, it might hurt President Obama. I don't live in FL so I have no idea how they really feel about him. But since he lost to Scott (I think) or even it were Rubio I'm thinking they may not be enamored with him.
Why is Nevada's governor in Florida? He should be in Nevada creating jobs.
dsb -- Crist did not lose to Rick Scott. Alex Sink (state CFO) lost to Rick Scott. I think that Sink may have been able to pull off a victory, but my opinion is that she lost it during the state debates when she was asked what the minimum wage was and she didn't know (to be fair, Rick Scott had been asked first, and he didn't know either, but really, as CFO Alex Sink should have known, but she looked like a school-girl copying from her classmates paper by trying to repeat what Scott had said before her). Anyways, Christ was governor but decided not to run for re-election as governor and instead ran for U.S. Senate in 2010. He ran as independent. Kendrick Meek was the Democrat. Marco Rubio was the Republican. Rubio won. Nowadays here in Florida you mostly see Crist on television doing ads for a law firm.
Christ is not as respected in Florida anymore. It could be said that he is the reason that Florida is cursed with both Rick Scott and Marco Rubio.
...through florida? too bad a hurricane is in the way! lmfao!
Romney the pragmatic businessman will govern.
He will probably end up somewhat right of center which is where he was in Mass.
As bill Clinton said when he ran it's the economy stupid.
The economy will be the deciding factor this time around.
We had the hope and change now we need to tend to the economy.
People will ultimately vote their wallet.
Perhaps that's true. It most certainly has been in the past. But the economy is getting better. And Romney does seem to want to return to the same old things that got us here in the first place. Then there are the social issues like women's health care and gay rights. The Repubs are on the wrong side of those.
Before Obama was elected I predicted that whoever won would be a one-term president because the economy couldn't recover enough in 3 1/2 years to keep him in. This race has always been the Republicans to lose. But it looks to be a tight race. That in and of itself is telling that people aren't buying what the Repubs have to offer. For me, I certainly hope they don't.
Obama/Biden 2012
dsb -- I too wish for Obama/Biden to win in 2012, but I know that this is in no way a sure thing. I think that the Obama team needs to fight back a little more directly. I understand that they are fighting back in the sense of not allowing themselves to be "swift-boated". But the swift boat attack is from an election gone by. I think that the republican strategy this time is to say, over and over, that Obama just blames all his problems on W Bush, thereby trying to inoculate the Republican Party from any responsibility they have for our current crisis. Never mind that the Republicans do share most of the blame.
The way Obama needs to fight back is to resist this and not let Republicans dictate the terms of engagement. They want to paint Obama as a "blamer". What they really want is for Obama not to place blame where blame is due.
President Obama should resist. He should not be afraid to bring up the secret meeting that Republicans held to prevent any and all steps he would take to recover the economy. He should point this out in the debates if given an opening. He should also describe the policies of the previous administration, showing how they led to this mess that we are still in. He should not let the Republicans dictate the terms of engagement. It's not "blaming" if it's true.
Start packing Obama. Leave the silver. Because what real Americans care about is the economy. That issue he never seems to want to discuss.
That was last week, this week it's tied 46.3-46.3 according to RCP. And trending pro-Romney.
well Hunny get ready for 4 more years of Obama
If the middle class "votes its wallet" they most certainly will not vote for Romney, who is dedicated to raping the wealth and treasury of this country for the 1%.
Don't get complacent Conservative Rebellion. It is very likely that Romney will win the popular vote but lose the electoral vote.
You didn't quote far enough...
and we all know who's responsible for that, don't we? George W. Bush caused all their problems in the first place with his insane plan to put every illegal immigrant into their own home and then made it worse by deregulating the mortgage market and ignoring what little regulation was left.
Florida voters will remember this.
That would be the absolute worst out come. Romney getting the popular vote and Obama gets the Electorate. Have you talked to some of the conservatives in rural areas? They will start a Conservative Rebellion, or just hunt down liberals, since most aren't smart enough to form an organization more complex then wearing sheets and burning crosses (which there are groups around here that have those meetings). Unlike what the left did when Bush took it.
I'm deep in conservative territory visiting my dad at the moment(off and on, he is alone and has medical problems but won't leave his home), I grew up around here, I don't talk about politics and I keep quiet most often because I just don't want to deal with the ignorance and hate. I had three guys try to attack me because I disputed the importance of a president showing his birth certificate. Asked why they didn't ask McCain, or why they don't ask Romney. They got flustered called me a liberal, and came to bash my head in. Luckily, I'm 6'3" and weigh 215 pounds, and they had way more to drink then me (I was somewhat nice, and only pushed them around a bit). Regardless, there is a lot of hate brewing in areas in the US, and that result would be like pouring gas on a fire.
I'll ask all the conservatives out there, when was the last time a liberal tried to fight you because you disagreed with them?
You keep quiet because you know that unless you are in the liberal echo chamber people will laugh at you.
People ask Obama about his birth certificate because he has claimed to have been born in Kenya and used that claim to his advantage. It was Hillary Clinton who first called into doubt his qualifications to be president based on his place of birth. Why didn't you ask her why she made that claim?
Liberals attempt to conduct violence all the time because of their politics. But, unlike you, who is obviously some kind of specially trained liberal ninja, they usually attempt to do it either in large groups (rioting) or using explosives (Ayers) or thru the use of mass graves, starvation, execution, or the guillotine.
Is there not one left winger who comes to this site who is not a completely uninformed loon?
Only 31 comments so far? Mighty quiet for MSNBC liberal news...this indicates the liberals are very nervous as they should be. Sorry folks, get use to saying President Romney and Vice President Ryan. By the way, 2010 was not a fluke and 2012 will prove it was not a fluke but just the beginning. Obama, one and done.
never happen Mitt will NEVER be President
OBAMA 2012
I've come to the stark and eerie conclusion that no matter what state the country is in, white people (racist white people anyway) will only be happy if a white man is Commander-in-Chief. Whether Obama is doing great or bad as president, it doesn't matter. What it all comes down to is he's black, and white people won't admit that. He could do everything perfectly, get the approval of Jesus Christ himself(if I believed in that sort of thing) and white people still won't be satisfied because he's not a white man. This country can completely go down the crapper, as it has when Bush was in office, but as long as it's a white man running the show, white people are okay with that.
Your of the logic, "well, this country has gone to s**t, but hey, at least it's a white man running it". Obama may not be a perfect president, but neither were the 43 white presidents before him. He's gotten a lot of things accomplished and done right, yet whites just refuse to give him credit where credit is due, for no other reason than he's black. But you'd be okay if he were serving you breakfast in a white tuxedo or picking your cotton, right? your grievous, over inflated sense of entitlement astounds me. Your kind has been taking for centuries, through bigotry and evil, and yet your still not satisfied? I find that fascinating. Republicans claim they need to "take back the country". Well, here's a clue: it wasn't yours in the first place. Your ancestors got in their ships and sailed the high seas to escape a life oppression, get to a new world, take it from the Native Americans, all the while setting sail to find a race of human beings that will pick your cotton and tend to your plantations for you while you reap the benefits.
Let me clue you in on something: it will NEVER go back that way. DO YOU UNDERSTAND??? We are a nation of mixed races, women, gays and lesbians. We have every right to exist and occupy this great planet just like your so called "pure white race" does. But I'm not naive. I know that racism will always exist simply because white people(racist white people) will continue to perpetuate it. What drives your racism is evil, and nothing but. If I believed in God and the Satan I would have to say that your kind, the racist kind, is the devil incarnate.
Caustin -- white people aren't the only ones who perpetuate racism.
Mitt "F da Poor" Romney and Paul “Middle Class Warfare” Ryan are nothing more than Two “Howdy Doodie Political Puppets” sitting on da Koch Brothers Lap.
You BetCha....Fer Sure.
If it were up to Mitt “ F da Poor” Romney and Paul “Middle Class Warfare” Ryan…………they would only allow Corporations to Vote and not da Public. Remember Folks…..Corporations are People too.
You BetCha…..Fer Sure.
Corporations are not made up of people? If not people, what are they made of?
Money as in...........$$$$$$$$$$$$$........they can't vote Right Now. But they sure can Buy Off, Bribe and Manipulate Elections.
You BetCha.....Fer Sure.
Rich people.
Romney never had to go through this kind of twisted logic to explain his “corporations are people” statement. Romney realized that people with an IQ greater than their hat size already know that corporations are people. A bunch of people are people. A bunch of people working together with common purpose are still people!
Families are people; political parties are people, unions are people, sports teams are people; corporations are people. Clouds are not people; mountain ranges are not people. Get it? From the CEO to the clerk in the mail room, corporations are the sum total of their people. And the ones who don't recognize that, will vote for Obama no matter how incompetent he is.
Most legal definitions of the word 'corporation' explicitly point out that it is a legal entity separate and independent from its members.
For example, I formed an S-Corporation but it is not me, and I am not it. My corporation can't get married, can't get arrested, and can't have (or even adopt) children.
I'll believe corporations are people when Blackwater is arrested for murder and sentenced to death.
Corporations are not people.
Corporations are not people. The SCOTUS ruling specifically addressed the rights of corporations to contribute to political campaigns. Let's ask this, as an employee of any large corporation do you have any say into the political donations? Even as a stockholder do you really have any say? The answer is a flat and resounding NO.
I've disagreed with many SCOTUS rulings but I could at least understand their reasoning. This one, no I don't see it. All it did was to allow the board and CEO to use corporate profits to influence elections. Whatever political ideology THEY profess. Not the actual owners, not the actual workers.
Future historians will point to this specific ruling as the beginning of the end of the America we know unless we do something about it and unless Congress passes laws that will pass Constitutional muster or a new amendment is approved I don't see how we will recover from it.
It truly makes America 'the best government money can buy' and we all know who has the money.
dsb, you are so 'right' on the money. . . I like what you say and your style is very good. Keep up the effective commentary. . . we need more people like you who can extrapolate these idea's too the many not so bright people who are voting on the the extremist right side of the spectrum.
Folks, Todd Akin is da “Poster Child” for da Good Ole Boys Club and……………….
Who just Blocked da Campaign Finance Reform Bill?
Who just Blocked Obamas Job Bill?
Who just Rewrote and put a Loophole in da House Version of da Stock Act. You know da Billl that would make it Illegal for Politicians do be involved in Insider Trading Antics. How many people have gone to Prison for this and yet they think they are “Exempt” from da Law.
And………here’s more since President Obama Took Office:
Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas- A bill that would have eliminated a tax break that companies get when they ship jobs overseas. Republicans blocked this, allowing companies to keep the tax break they receive when they ship jobs to other countries.
The Small Business Jobs Act -would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this, then attempted to block it a second time and failed.
Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”- Would have repealed the law that forces gay and lesbian services members to lie about their sexuality and gives the military the right to discharge soldiers based on their sexuality. Republicans blocked this many times and Democrats were finally able to pass it with the support of just 2 Republicans.
You Guessed it…………Cantor, Boehner, McConnell and da rest of them Republican TeaBilly Conservative Politicians.
Can you imagine da Shenanigans if Mitt “F da Poor” Romney and Paul “Middle Class Warfare” Ryan get Elected.
You BetCha…..Fer Sure.

San Tan... You're an a$$. Your comment about moshuluu's donations to Feed the Children was crass. But, based on comments from people who are obviously Republican, that's all you people are capable of spewing from your blowholes. Here's a saying you might want to take to heart (despite the fact that Repubs don't have one). 'Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Charlie Crist supports President Obama.
From da Miami Herald:
ST. PETERSBURG -- Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican-turned-independent, continued his political makeover Sunday by endorsing President Barack Obama’s re-election and calling him “the right leader for our times.”
Crist praised Obama for protecting the middle class, strengthening Medicare, guiding the nation through an economic collapse, supporting public schools and investing in highways, railroads and airports, but without using the word “stimulus.”
Crist did not mention Mitt Romney by name in his op-ed column, but he said the Republican Party has drifted too far to the right.
Sarah Palin can see Florida from her Kitchen Window. “Ya know Todd………..I think everybody………including Gawd…….is starting to see thru this Republican TeaBilly Conservative Whackjob Evil Agenda against da Poor, Middle Class, Women , Seniors and on and on ……………Basically against everybody but da 1%.”
You BetCha….Fer Sure.
Once seniors and retirees understand the RR plan, the election is over. Considering that must of them are women who worry about their daughters and granddaughters... well. I can't wait to see the frozen smirk wiped off Mittens' face!!!
Folks……Todd Akin did not “Misspeak”. He simply stated All Repulblican TeaBilly Conservative Whack Job thoughts. Now that he “Exposed” his Right Wing Evil thoughts and Agenda…….he is Back Peddling, Finger Pointing, Using Gawd, and is all about Damage Control.
He was also on a Committee about Abortion with Paul Ryan………Hmmmmmmmmm.
When all the dimwits abort what would be their children, the world will eventually have nothing but prolifers left. What a day that will be!
Google...Parade in German Obama
THE WORLD IS LAUGHING at the U.S.
Google Romney gaffes Europe - the world is laughing at Romney!!
If they find out what Mormons believe(!) they will really start laughing.
RedDev, Romney is lauging all the way to the Whitehouse and the bank.
No, not as funny or embarrassing as the floats. Have you seen the floats?
I think the laughter he hears is America guffawing at him, not with him.
The world with the exception of the muslim countries love Obama --and not laughing at him. The other countries dispised the Bush and Cheney. Cheney had to cancel a trip over seas for they was waiting to arrest him as a war criminal which they both were
Tell that to Israel who Obama slighted and shunned...Do you think they "love" Obama ??
Romney's path to the White House runs through
Floridahis rich Republican crime family cronies.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
If you are a lower to middle class American you cannot allow this man to be elected President or even trash collector for that matter. He and his greed riddled, corrupt Republican party supporters will surely take what little you have left.
