McCain: Further delays to GOP convention 'could be harmful'

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says Republican presidential candidate has been outspent by the Obama campaign and Romney needs to turn the tide and focus on women and minorities with the message

TAMPA, Fla. – Arizona Sen. John McCain expressed concern Sunday that further weather-related cancellations of the Republican National Convention here could deprive the GOP of an opportunity to make its case to voters.

Speaking Sunday on “Meet the Press,” the 2008 Republican presidential nominee said that the decision by convention organizers to effectively cancel Monday’s session due to the effects of the impending Hurricane Isaac wouldn’t have much harm on Republicans.

“It's Wednesday, Thursday night that are the big moments,” he said. “It's not that we don't want that first night, but I don't think it will be harmful if we lose the first night.”

But, the veteran senator added: “It could be harmful if we lose more than that.”

Republicans announced on Saturday that they had decided to delay the beginning of the convention until Tuesday; the impending storm threatens logistics and safety problems that made it unfeasible to convene for Monday’s activities.

But convention organizers haven’t yet released the revised schedule, and haven’t officially foreclosed the possibility of further weather-related changes to the schedule bleeding into Tuesday.

As things stand, Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are scheduled to be featured speakers on Tuesday evening. Mitt Romney won’t speak until Thursday, though the formal roll call vote to nominate him for president is currently scheduled for Tuesday.

On this same news page, photo and all, John McCain stated that there would be no damage by losing the first night (of the convention). Gee, he changes his mind as often as he did during his run in 2008 and sounds a lot like Mitt Romney flip flopping all the time. Which is it? Harmful or not, it can't be both ways.

"McCain: Further delays to GOP convention 'could be harmful.'"

Nonsense, bushwah and folderol!

It will give Mr. Romney time to carefully plan his "platform."

Then change it.

Then repudiate the changes.

Then change it again.

And again.

And again.

Until that golden moment when it's perfect.

And he can change it again.

And again.

Yes, and Dick Cheney believes there could be 'mushroom clouds'.

It would be nice (but unrealistic) for the G.O.P. to worry about the harm the hurricane might cause to the people in its path!

    There's a battle outside
    And it is ragin'

does anyone care what mccain says anymore? he lost all credibility with me when he picked palin as a vp, then afterwards when he was fighting for his seat in congress he pandered to the extremists in the tea party to get re-elected. He's just another con man in congress. When I see him now on tv blabbering on about whatever, my lip curls in contempt and I have to change what Im watching. The only reason I read this article was so I could post this message about what a douchebag he is.

Actually, I think Isaac is a welcomed distraction for the Republicans. Now they don't have to talk about anything but the weather. And maybe eliminating government programs such as FEMA!

How quick the GOP flat earthers are to throw McCain (the guy who beat out Romney last time) under the bus! This is sooo entertaining!

I wish this grump old man (McCain) would go away for a long trip somewhere. As trigger-happy as he is perhaps one of the fields of battle in Afghanistan would be a good place for him. Or maybe he could invade Iran with his Colt 45's a-blazin'.

      'Harm the Republican Party"?

Isaac is the least of their problems.

What will really harm the Republican Party? The New Republicans (Tea Party).

Their speakers will do far more harm to their already destroyed reputation than any hurricane could do.

As for Ann Romney speaking: Maybe she'll use her health problems to advocate for access to the same level of health care for ALL Americans that she has been blessed with. But, she probably won't.

You've undoubtedly noticed that Queen Sarah hasn't been asked to speak and in fact, has been advised to stay the hell out of Tampa. Same goes for Michelle, Newt, Texas Six-shooter, and you-know-who from Pennsylvania. Now there's a real circus!

You'd think the Party of God would have been able to do a bit better with the weather. Unless, just maybe, they really aren't God's Only Party, and this is some sort of a sign....

John Hagee -- Katrina was God's punishment for homosexuality.

Michelle Bachmann -- the East Coast earthquake and Hurricane Irene were God’s attempts "to get the attention of the politicians."

Glenn Beck -- the Japanese earthquake and tsunami were God's "message being sent" to that country.

Now it's time for the Republican convention, who is being punished now? Who's attention is God trying to get? I would assume they consider a random weather event for a part of the country that often gets hit by bad weather.

I'm thinking maybe Senator McCain sees this delay as giving more time for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.

Hey, it's possible with this guy...

The best news for the GOP is in the reponses to this post. The number of haters is dwindling fast so even liberals must be opening their eyes to see the last three and a half years have been a joke.

                @jr:

You couldn't be more wrong sir! The exact opposite is the truth! The Dems and Libs have simply grown weary of trying to educate fear-mongers and old, white, cowards who refuse to move into the new millenium for fear that their many years of LYING about blacks are now exposed as the LIES they always were! In fact; black people {men in particular} never had tails coming out of their rectums; their very long tails were/are, and have ALWAYS been in the front...not the back!

                Right on? right on...

Oh...almost forgot! Black people were suppose to be incapable of learning, lol! I remember reading where blacks are apes and monkeys who are quite capable of mimicking intelligent behavior but not at all capable of rational thought SO; how can Barack Obama, (being a stupid ape), have graduated Harvard Law which does require the recipient, of such a degree, to be able to comprehend the white folks's language AND be able to decipher the complexities of the white man's laws and legal concepts? Haven't seen an ape yet that could do that! But it does beg the response/query, I suppose; "if Obama graduated Harvard Law, where are his transcripts?" Surely they must have been issued through Affirmative Action or how else could that STUPID NIGGAR have graduated at all? ROFLMBAO!

                  Right on? right on...

Ahhhhh, the beauty of having credentials in this America while also being a so-called minority! Ain't it grand? Liberty, freedom, and justice for ALL...ALL white people that is! What BULLSH!T and GREAT HYPOCRISY!!!? For minority persons, the American dream is a reoccurring nightmare that is heard again and again every single time whites LIE about subjects that the American press as well as news outlets around the globe, have already deemed to be pure unadulterated and absolute HORSESH!T!!! But the prevaricators of these LIES will keep telling'em as long as the inane of America keep buying what the GOP is peddling...a pill of fear for the fearful that is sure to keep ALL cowards awake nights worrying about "those people" trying to steal their America which they stole for the children of the Gahé!

Yes! By ALL means, be afraid...be VERY afraid! ROFL!!!
