McCain: Further delays to GOP convention 'could be harmful'

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., says Republican presidential candidate has been outspent by the Obama campaign and Romney needs to turn the tide and focus on women and minorities with the message

TAMPA, Fla. – Arizona Sen. John McCain expressed concern Sunday that further weather-related cancellations of the Republican National Convention here could deprive the GOP of an opportunity to make its case to voters.

Speaking Sunday on “Meet the Press,” the 2008 Republican presidential nominee said that the decision by convention organizers to effectively cancel Monday’s session due to the effects of the impending Hurricane Isaac wouldn’t have much harm on Republicans.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. attends a news conference about the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Thursday, July 12, 2012, on Capitol Hill.

“It's Wednesday, Thursday night that are the big moments,” he said. “It's not that we don't want that first night, but I don't think it will be harmful if we lose the first night.”

But, the veteran senator added: “It could be harmful if we lose more than that.”

Republicans announced on Saturday that they had decided to delay the beginning of the convention until Tuesday; the impending storm threatens logistics and safety problems that made it unfeasible to convene for Monday’s activities.

But convention organizers haven’t yet released the revised schedule, and haven’t officially foreclosed the possibility of further weather-related changes to the schedule bleeding into Tuesday.

As things stand, Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are scheduled to be featured speakers on Tuesday evening. Mitt Romney won’t speak until Thursday, though the formal roll call vote to nominate him for president is currently scheduled for Tuesday.

Does anyone take what this angry, senile, shell of a man says seriously anymore?

Does anyone know what GNOP genius thought it would be a good idea to hold the convention in Tampa during the height of hurricane season?

Does anyone else remember James Dobson calling on his fellow "Christians" to pray for rain in 2008 during the DNC convention in 2008?

It's called KARMA!

Losing time for the homage to Ron Paul would hurt them, losing time for Rand Paul's speech would help them.

McCain actually believes his statements are profound. It's not the weather, Sir, and no, you can't blame it on God either. The demise of the 'Grand Old Party' will be the result of the obstructionists seated in Congress; those who insist on 'gumming up the works!'

Relax, the only thing that could be harmful is if Romney himself doesn't show up to the Presidential election. People are tired of this in this country. We remember how the times were good in the 90's and in the last ten years. It's time for some real change. It's time for some real change.

Obama, who has been taking us in the wrong direction for the last 4 years ---- people, it's just like we were headed straight off a cliff with half mile left to go before the edge, going 80 mph, when Obama gets elected and instead of investigating a possible turn around or hitting the brakes, he stomps on the gas and brings us to 145 mph, toward the edge of the cliff, for the last four years.

(I know this keeps getting repeated but it very well needs to, and even more until the situation becomes completely under control. Trust me, you do not want your entire life savings, which you worked for diligently your entire life, to immediately become worthless within one week because of severe hyperinflation that has set into the dollar. When this is happening, it is already to late to have this discussion. The time is now. If you care about all your life savings...)

The weather-related delays to the GOP convention may be somewhat harmful to their ability to get their message out to the voters, but the message itself will be outright devastating if American voters ever find out what they have planned for us.

Actually, the weather related delays speaks volumes to the message that the GOP have been trying to get out that they done give a stuff about climate change nor are they concerned with it. In fact, their entire platform is filled with policies that thumb their nose at the environment and encourage even more emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. I find the whole thing very comical and ironic if it weren't so scary.

He needs to step aside and let the new leaders of the Republican party step in....Romney, Ryan, Christy, Jindal, Rice, Brown, Brewer etc...this is the rising power of the RNC...Perhaps it is time for McCain to take a rocking chair. How does one loose to Obama and still consider himself a player.

The GOP has more delays than weather to worry about. Jobs, foreign policy stands, women's rights.

Keep putting it off until when? Certainly past November. Then the surprise will start.

While construction jobs are few and prices are low, this may be a good time to consider building that bunker in the backyard.

2012 is proving to be an extraordinary election year.

Romney is playing dodgeball with the issues, making the mistake of thinking that being INSIDE THE CIRCLE is somehow 'WINNING THE GAME' while being forced by circumstance to spend most of his time trying simply NOT TO GET HIT.

Obama is on the rim throwing balls at Romney while failing to comprehend that beyond his circle is yet another, larger circle comprised of the electorate.

We, the electorate, are throwing balls at both Romney and Obama, but unwittingly, only Obama has his back turned to us. The problem for Obama is that even the balls aimed at Romney can take him down en route.

Mr. Obama, turn around on occasion and check what we're doing. It would be a shame for you to be knocked out of the game simply for focusing too completely on a captive target.

Actually the GOP couldn't be happier because the storm means that the role call, the actually nomination of Romney, will be had with little or no press and the Ron Paul supporters were planning on making a scene and as Ann Coulter has said (I have heard other Republican pundits say this on other Sunday morning political shows, but she was on This Week on ABC when I heard this first), "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line," so that would of been peculiar embarrassing.

We remember how the times were good in the 90's and in the last ten years.

    Now that's funny!

...the numbers for Bush's last three months. Between October and November, 597,000 jobs were lost; between November and December, 681,000 were lost; and between December and January, 741,000 were lost.

Dec 29, 2008 U.S. corporate earnings fell for a sixth-straight quarter, the longest streak in at least 20 years, as consumer spending on automobiles, homes and retailers collapsed.

Officially over in 2009, the Great Recession is now generally acknowledged to be the most devastating global economic crisis since the Great Depression. As a result of the crisis, the United States lost more than 7.5 million jobs, and the unemployment rate doubled—peaking at more than 10 percent. The collapse of the housing market and subsequent equity market fluctuations delivered a one-two punch that destroyed trillions of dollars in personal wealth and made many Americans far less financially secure.

Hurricane Isaac is posing another unanticipated threat to the Republican convention; the GOP Convention organizing committee apparently didn't order enough of its "OFFICIAL GOP CONVENTION FULL-COVER RAIN GEAR" in order to have a set for all of the delegates, and the contractor says they are running out.

A few sets are still available, so Republican delegates, get yours before they are all gone (One size fits most) :

    Barack Obama has:

Signed the National Defence Authorization Act (NDAA) Bill into Law allowing any US citizen to Be Detained WITHOUT trial (A federal Court Blocked it in May because it Violates the Constitution, but Obama is not trying to get it UNBLOCKED!).

He has Killed HUNDREDS of Innocent people (Including 3 American Citizens) in Pakistan and Yemen with Drone Strikes (He's Ordered even more drone strikes than Bush!).

The rate of National Debt under George Bush was Around $60 Billion a Month. Under Obama, it's been $190 Billion a Month, so that would be Nearly $600 Per US Citizen (Thanks Obama!).

Obama Care: Page 22. MANDATES, The Government will Audit Book of ALL Employers who Self Insure. Page 50, Section 152, Health Care WILL be Provided to ALL Non US Citizens, Illegal or otherwise. Obama has By-passed Congress to Enable the DREAM Act (Unconstitutional to By-Pass Congress, and the Illegals he allowed to become Legal Citizens has Committed over 19 Murders and Over 142 Sex crimes).

Obama Claims he Campaigned in 57 States (Maybe he wasn't Born in this Country?).

Along with every other Republican and most democrats when 911 happened. By the way, that was going on during Bushes term.

He has Killed HUNDREDS of Innocent people (Including 3 American Citizens) in Pakistan and Yemen with Drone Strikes (He's Ordered even more drone strikes than Bush!).

Every war kills hundreds of innocent people, thats why Democrats don't like getting into wars. However, when we are forced to take over a war that a Republican President started, we reduce the amount of American deaths. Thousands of Americans have died during Bushes 2 wars and your faulting Obama for 3 American deaths due to drone strikes. Hope Obama keeps up with drone strikes instead of putting American soldiers on the ground in harms way.

The rate of National Debt under George Bush was Around $60 Billion a Month. Under Obama, it's been $190 Billion a Month, so that would be Nearly $600 Per US Citizen (Thanks Obama!).

Wow, you really can't figure things out can you? Yes it was less under Bush, but remember, Bush kept the bubble afloat just long enough to drop the whole bursting thing onto Obama's Lap. Since then, anything Obama tries to do to fix it the Republicans try to block. Oh and When Clinton was in office before Bush, there was a surplus. Forgot to mention that didn't you.

Obama has By-passed Congress to Enable the DREAM Act (Unconstitutional to By-Pass Congress, and the Illegals he allowed to become Legal Citizens has Committed over 19 Murders and Over 142 Sex crimes).

Congress gave Obama no choice, but to work around them since they say no to everything he tries to do even if it's something the Republicans want. Just to make the economy look bad under his watch, they don't care about the American famillies suffering just so they can make Obama look bad. As far as the illegals go, now that so many Presidents have done nothing to stop illegals from entering the United states, there are too many of them doing jobs you won't do that you can't kick them all out. I agree with making them citizens, especially the children who where born here and don't know any other life.

Obama Claims he Campaigned in 57 States (Maybe he wasn't Born in this Country?).

And maybe your stupid too. Everyone makes a stupid statement. This is just one for Obama against the 20 or so from Mitt Romney and even more from his Republican GOP party.

I'm NOT a Romney Supporter, but I would say Vote anyone BESIDES Barack Obama. And if Obama Gets Re-elected, buy Guns.

And now you have proven your stupid. You would vote in Mitt Romney who will make you pay more in taxes while he pays less, Take away your rights as a woman to decide what you can and can not do with your own body, take away your social security you have been paying into all your life, take away your medicare and give you vouchers wich don't cover the bills, and remove restrictions on big businesses so they can more more jobs overseas and ruin our natural habitats. Wow, stupid is as stupid does.

Well let's have a look? McCain a loser, a war monger an most likely a liar about his 'heroic' stint in the prison in Viet Nam, clearly an ego maniac and oh yes did I mention WAR MONGER ?

Now what was the question? Oooh yes who really cares what this phony, never held a job in commerce, industry or trades, never had a paycheck from anywhere except OUR GOVERNMENT has to say about anything?

He screwed over his first wife who before her accident was a beauty for a younger model with plenty of money. Is he an opportunist you may ask? Naaah he is just a male whore looking for ego gratification and a chance at living high on the 'hog'..

McCain the loser is the best possible POSTER BOY for TERM LIMITS, drug tests, IQ tests and financial accounting that will ever be seen.

He actually believes his press releases. He is a serious accident waiting to happen. We nearly had him in the Oval Office and if so it can be safely assumed America would be knee deep in THREE wars which are none of our business.

Don't forget that he single handedly nearly destroyed the USS Forestall because he did not FOLLOW THE RULES. And as the great carrier burned he went 'below' and watched the attempts to save the lives of a dozen seamen who actually dies because of the fire and rescue the ship on CCTV. As soon as that was over thanks to his Admiral Grandfather and Father he went on 'shore leave' to Hawaii with a writer who paid for the trip. Read the details on Wikipedia.. it is quite revolting.

Was there a question? If so why? Who in their right mind whether a republicat or a democat would ever want advice from this loser?

@model railroad man: I am glad to see someone else bring up Senator McCain's actions regarding the tanker contract - although it seemed to me that he was more driven by the influence of a foreign partner in his home state than anything else. He started out raising valid points about the leasing arrangement, but it turned into blatant lobbying for a particular company that was a major donor and that's where he hurt his credibility. His actions and repeated letters to the DoD, never-ending requests for information, and shady legislative tactics delayed the execution of this contract long after the decisions had been made. He's a funny guy on late-night talk shows; perhaps that's where he should move his career to.

I would guess that not many will watch Ann Romney no matter what night they put her on. I'm not watching any of it. The group is so out of touch with reality. I have nothing in common with any of them, especially Mitt and Ann Romney. I give a damn about the 99% because I am proud to be one of them. I would love it if things were better, but you vote these hypocrites in, and it will never happen. I can sleep at night. I wonder how many of them can?

...and for the record, I am not on welfare, state or federal aid of any kind. Have only collected 5 weeks of unemployment in my lifetime and I turn 50 in September. I have rhuematoid arthritis, but I still work two full time jobs, am taking two college level classes per semester the past 3 years, and participate in several outside groups to raise money for homeless and food pantry. So don't dare label me as someone who sleeps in my parents basement and looking for a handout and about entitlement. I have worked my butt off since I was 15..got a work permit so I could wash dishes for $2 an hour as a sophmore in high school to buy my first car. So when I say I'm in the 99% does not mean that I have not worked my entire life. My house needs work, I drive a 5 year old car and my clothes aren't the latest fashion, but I am happy and I'll say it again...I CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT!

@Geo- Welcome to the world of most Americans.

But if you listen to fux up noise and you were white living pay check to pay check you would think there was 200 million black people living off welfare and social security.

My mother raised us with very little while asking for assistance from the government. Out of the 4 of us two of us have college degrees, wives, a house and kids. Your average America dream. The other two was in and out of jail while doping their bodies up for 30 years. The health issue they have is beyond pale. I say this because we as individuals have a choice and if someone in our family or out side of it makes a bad choice we all pay period.

The repuks would have you to believe it's someone else fault. If a drug dealer tells you i have the drugs you need, you would do two things. 1) If you had a habit you would take the drugs. 2) If you know you don't need it the dealer would tell you his drugs are better than any one else just try it. Although you tried it before.

We tried the bush policies and found out we as America can not afford

I know the feeling NFIL, I'm a real news junkie, but the repititon from the Republicans make it a waste of time. They have their script, memorized it well and repeat opten. Mitt's "jokes" aren't funny especially when he brings up the birther thing and says it was a "joke"..sure it was. It's "funny" when he back stabs the President but it's no joke when Romney still won't discuss his federal tax returns, his so called retirement from Bain and insists that he has no control over his blind trust. Lies, lies. I'm waiting for the brave reporter who will pin Romney on these subjects and delve into or not whether Romney thinks God lives on the planet Kobal, the purpose of the fancy underwear and if he thinkks that he too cluld become a god on his own planet. If the Republicans can ask personal questions, it should be OK for them to answer some of their own. This convention will be just a repeat of all we have already heard on birth contol, abortion, gun control and trashing health care for the poor and elderly to put more money in the wealthest people's pockets.

I think they've already made their case to the voters. Quite clearly, in fact. It's probably not the case they wanted to make. As a female there is no way no how I can justify voting for a party that would force me to carry a baby to term against my will even if my life is at risk or if I was raped, that is ok with me earning less for the same work because I happened to have been born female (nobody asked me), and that thinks I should be subject to their patriarchal religious ideals. To be clear, I'm not voting for the Democrats, I'm voting against the Republicans.

Really, how can these people live with the hypocrisy they spout? It doesn't make sense and usually that means there is more that they aren't telling us. Mitt-isms:

"I saw my father march with Martin Luther King"
(later admitted that not true when confronted with the facts)

"I'm running for office for Pete's sake, we can't have ILLEGALS" (Oct. 2011)
(to firm hiring staff for his Mansion(S))

"I'd tell you, but I don't have one of those Magic Pens like they do on Men in Black where
I COULD WIPE OUT YOUR MEMORY"
        (mitt 4/2/11, republican Jewish Coalition)

and of course, there's Mitt's "I Won't Detail Plans, Because Then I'd Lose" stance -
"One of the things I have found in Previous elections is that ANNOUNCING MY PLANS makes People want to VOTE AGAINST ME."

And, incredibly (but true) Mitt says: "DETAILING our MEDICARE PLAN would be SUICIDAL"

(which begs the question: WHY would ANY politician want to offer a "SUICIDAL PLAN"?)

Mitt's found an answer to everything though...
'WE'LL TELL 'YOU PEOPLE' AFTER THE ELECTION"

(but if I wasn't running for office, of course it wouldn't be a problem)

When Republicans at their 1996 convention, en masse, followed the lead of one of their most ardent racist propagandists, then presidential candidate Pat Buchanan...

...in a chant that chided then President Bill Clinton for his Vietnam deferments, chanting "Where was Bill?"

...Today the same question (and an even more important one) could be leveled at Willard Mitt Romney...

...who received the same deferment from service in order to bicycle across France and spread Mormonism...

...thus, the chant "Where was Willard?" is appropriate, and...

...actually has a more urgent connotation when tied to his most important claim to the presidency...

        ...his business/jobs creating acumen...

...If Willard Mitt Romney is such a great jobs creator, why is the American economy and jobs picture in such dire straits?

...if Willard can magically create so many jobs, why hasn't he? Why does he have to WAIT until he becomes president to create jobs?

...When the American economy was taking a nose dive, and we were hemorrhaging 750,000 jobs a month under the criminal Cheney-Bush junta...

        ..."Where was Willard?"...

...I'll tell you where he was...

...He was helping to invent outsourcing, then, hiding his profits in offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, and Switzerland...

...He was leading Bain Capital's efforts to acquire companies, leverage them (load them up with unnecessary loans and debt), raiding their pension funds, then bankrupting them, and laying off their labor force!

How could ANY sane, working poor or middle class man or woman (White, Black , Asian, Hispanic or whatever)...

...vote for low life scumbags like Willard "Tax Cheat" Mitt Romney, and his pal Paul "Killer of Medicare, Forcible/Legitimate Rapist" Ryan?

INTTELIGENT AMERICAN VOTERS MUST DEMAND TO SEE WILLARD'S TAX RETURNS!

Not kowtowing to laws written down in Leviticus by a bunch of dudes thousands of years ago (and rewritten many times for political reasons...ahem...King James), doesn't mean all liberals are atheists. NOW THIS IS FROM A TV INTERVIEW WITH THE LAWYER THAT QUESTIONED MITT UNDER OATH WHEN HE WAS MAKING A CASE THAT HE ALWAYS FILED AS A MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENT.....

" I have always filed as a Mass resident when in Utah running the Olympics, Take my word for it". When he was shown a copy of his tax returns that listed Utah as his residence of record, Mitt said that must have been a mistake, and that he didn't read his tax returns, he just signed them. This was testified to under oath, when pushed further about his statement about always filling as a Mass resident he relented that the firm that does his taxes made a mistake and he would correct it by filling an amended tax return. Mitt was also questioned as to why he was given a tax benefit on his Utah resident by filing as his residence of record. Mitts response was the clerk must have made a mistake and just given him a tax break because he was helping so much with the Olympics; the lawyer said ... "kind of like a reward?" Well yes, Mitt responded.

I was at a clam bake last night sitting next to a group of people and the discussion naturally turned to politics. These were all white people, I would say in the mid to late 40's. There were 6 in that group, 3 male, 3 female. I hate to say it but I did listen to the conversation. All the men had the same opinion, Romney is "plastic", they could not relate to him, and the women HATED him. The one comment that got me from one of the men was that this election is not about taxes, it is about income or the lack of it. This guy apparently owned a business and he said it was not taxes he was worried about, it was income. I don't know what kind of business but he said he is having a hard time because there is not much money coming in, nobody has money to spend. The women were just beside themselves over the abortion issue and birth control. One of them said she is so creeped out that Romney is so concerned about her sex life, and the men just shook their heads in agreement. There you go and the best part is this county is so red it is blinding!! By the way, I live in Ohio and the vote here is being threatened by-- guess who--the republican run state government.

Hmmm...demand drives the economy. Taxes and regulation costs impact all "sellers" more or less evenly and, consequently, may be passed on to customers, without much fear of market share loss. And, IF that begins to occur, it would be recognized as "inflation," to be corrected by the Fed through raising interest rates.

True. There is no demand and hence no income because the middle class doesn't have any disposable income anymore and the wealthy classes horde their money or spend it anywhere but in the US economy.

Boo Hoo, Storm is not much more than a rain event for Florida despite the media hype. Maybe they should have held it in another city during hurricane season!!

I am sure the crooks that are already here can make use of their extra down time, I hear plenty of hookers are in town and they all have a GOP special with the bad economy.

This is why Norquist wants Mitt as president....someone with 10 digits who signs what is put in front of him....seems Mitts been doing that for decades.

              From the Rachel Maddow show:

Listen to this: Mr. Romney ... said he had always trusted his accountants and simply signed and dated the returns. He said he did not notice that a line asking for his domicile was left blank on the Massachusetts returns. Quote I do not read those or review those before I sign them nor the attached schedules. As you're probably aware, your tax return is one of those things that you submit, you sign and submit, under the penalty of perjury.

This was something that was pointed out to Mr. Romney when he testified before the Massachusetts State Ballot Commission to try to be allowed to run for Governor. Quote ...if I were to hand you an affidavit, Mr. Romney, and at the end of it, typed in your signature, and above your signature, I put "signed under the pains and penalties of perjury," and I said, "Mr. Romney, sign this document," you'd read it first; wouldn't you? Romney If you were to put it in front of me, yes. [Lawyer] So, you'd sign documents under the pains and penalties of perjury without necessarily reading them; is that your testimony? Romney: I have not read the entire Massachusetts tax form, nor the Federal tax form, nor the Utah tax form, and all of them have me sign under pains and penalty to the best of my knowledge and belief, and I do not read the entire form. [-June 18, 2002 testimony before MA State Ballot Commission]

I like how he slipped in those weasel words, "to the best of my knowledge and belief".

He doesn't get it. You sign it, you are responsible. Period. Like, the buck stops here?

The term "Smarmy" comes to mind.
