Romney, Ryan reach out to female voters ahead of convention

Mitt Romney ignited controversy in his native Michigan Friday with an off-the-cuff comment he says was intended as a joke, but that the Obama administration is calling a direct invocation of a highly charged issue. NBC News' Peter Alexander reports.

POWELL, Ohio-- With less than 48 hours to go before the opening of the Republican nominating convention in Tampa, Mitt Romney's mind was on President Obama's speech four years ago as he addressed a rally Saturday in a swing county in Ohio. Romney called then Senator Obama's speech "brilliant," but assailed the president for failing to match results to his rhetoric. He predicted more of the same at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C., next week.

"He will have all sorts of promises to offer again. He'll tell you how much better things are now, but you know this time we have more than just the words. We have the record," Romney told roughly 5,000 supporters Saturday morning. "And we understand the big gap there is between what he promises and what he hopes and what he actually delivers. And that's why this November the people of Ohio are going to make sure we get a Republican in the White House and take back America."

The attack on Obama's convention rhetoric comes as Romney prepares his own address to the nation -- a speech he told a conservative radio host Friday night he has yet to complete. And, as his campaign looks to refocus on the economy and a crucial demographic group where he trails President Obama: women.

According to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released earlier this week, Obama is still beating Romney among several key parts of his political base, including women. Romney trails the president by 10 percent -- 41 percent to 51 percent. Back in 2008, the female vote helped propel Obama to victory over Republican candidate John McCain. Obama captured 56 percent of the female vote four years ago, according to exit polls.

Today, Romney tailored his business-friendly message to women, telling the Delaware County crowd he could do more to help female business owners than the current president.

"Just a word to the women entrepreneurs out there. If we become, if we become president and vice president, we want to speak to you, we want to help you," Romney said. "Women in this country are more likely to start businesses than men. Women need our help."

Political analysts Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Karen Finney, former communications director for the Democratic National Committee, discuss the impending Republican National Convention, the storm, the "birther" comments and the Romney campaign's effort to stay on message to win the nomination.

But beyond reaching out to female business owners, Romney did not alter his message to women specifically, nor did his running mate Paul Ryan, as they appeared side-by-side in the Buckeye state for the first time.

The role of making a more direct appeal to female voters will likely fall squarely on the shoulders of Ann Romney, long her husband's most effective surrogate with women, who will speak to millions in a prime-time address on Tuesday night at the convention. Romney campaign officials and RNC planners moved her speech yesterday from Monday to Tuesday to accommodate television network plans to only broadcast three nights of the convention and to ensure Mrs. Romney reaches the greatest audience possible.

The RNC has also packed the prime-time speaking schedule with other top women surrogates, including South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Luce Vela Fortuno, first lady of Puerto Rico, who will speak after Mrs. Romney on Tuesday.

The Obama campaign is not letting up on its outreach to female voters this election either. In addition to having several female speakers at the DNC convention next week, the "Romney/Ryan: Wrong for Women" bus tour will roll across the country talking about reproductive rights and women’s health.

Obama only has the war on women, this will not win the election. 46 million Americans living in poverty,23 million under employed and 16 trillion in debt. What real chance does Obama have except a wing and a prayer. Jimmy Carter is the only one happy that Barry came along now he is the second worst President of our life time. Paul Ryan has been a game changer the polls have shifted it's one and done for the food stamp President!!!!

What the scariest thought of a Romney/Ryan reign is that it would fundamentally change this country.

1. Medicare will no longer be the safety net for millions of seniors and will go bankrupt by 2016 (look this fact up)

2. Social Security would be eliminated or hobbled so badly that older people would have to work until they die.

3. Women would lose their rights to their own bodies. The government would force them to bear children or face imprisonment for murder.

4. Education would be de-funded as it is proposed in the Ryan budget.

5. The middle class would have no one to defend our rights.

It's more than an election this time around. It's a choice of whether America is a land of the people or corporations who have bought the White House.

The Republicans and Mitt Romney are a little bit late in trying to get the vote of Free thinking American Women. Yeah, I know the dominate Republican men will tell their meak Wives that Romney is right for them because he wants to give Zillionaires another Tax Break.

The actual Voting Booths have curtains and the Husband does not know how the wife votes however the new Absentee ballot at home takes away that old freedom. The wife would have to vote and seal up her ballot and then lie to her husband which I doubt she would do because he could open the Ballot and check.

Translation: If you HAVE MONEY, we are on your side. If you don't, you are just garbage, and your place is in the kitchen. Already in Texas poor women are crossing the border seeking cheap resources for birth control and abortions in Mexico. Many of these "resources" are unregulated and dangerous medicines. The nice tea bagger Governor Perry cut ALL FUNDS to Planned Parenthood in the State of Texas.

Paul Ryan is thte champion of legislation AGAINST PLANNED PARENTHOOD. Of course, they assume that rich women NEVER have abortions. right???? Only poor, trashy women that are asking to be raped.

Ann Romney appeals to women who want to grow up and marry a royal. Her "charm" escapes me, but maybe that's because I have to work for a living. Perhaps if I had a boat load of money, a house with a car elevator, swiss and offshore bank accounts, and a 13% income tax rate, I could identify.

And how do you think Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney are going to save it by giving the rich a super tax cut? Do you believe that money grows on trees or what? At ANY TIME they have NOT indicated that they will increase taxes on the rich, or anybody else. Of course, the taxes for the "vouchers" will end up coming out of the pockets of the middle class, and they will be ridiculously low for the medical costs, always on the rise.

Paul Ryan does not want to cut subsidies to big oil, and wants to increase the budget of the military. Is he some kind of wizard or what????? Otherwise I do not see how he can do it.

Democrats war on women:

In January 2007(under BUsh), the economy had just set a record of 52 straight months of job creation. We're into three plus straight years of NET job losses since Obama took office.

Since Barack Obama took office, the unemployment rate for women has gone up from seven to

8.1%. Since Obama took office, the number of female workers has declined by 683,000. Since

Obama took office, the number of women unemployed has increased by 858,000, close to a million.

The poverty rate among women rose to 14-and-a-half percent last year, up from 13.9% when Mr.

Obama went in. That's over half a percentage point in Obama's three years. And it happens to be

the highest rate for poverty in women in 17 years. If there is a war on women, it is happening and

it is being directed from the White House with Obama as the generalissimo...

April 2011:

news broke that the Obama administration had quietly shuttered the only Justice Department unit that exclusively fought adult obscenity (defined as criminally offensive material that has no "serious literary, political, artistic, or medical value" ). Amid a flurry of criticism, administration officials defended the move, arguing that limited resources would be better spent prosecuting cases of child exploitation. Meanwhile, conservatives such as Sen. Orrin Hatch seized the opportunity to accuse the White House of being soft on hardcore porn.

Earlier this month, 42 senators signed a letter urging Attorney General Eric Holder to step up enforcement of federal obscenity laws. Among the cast of mostly Republican signers, one name stood out: Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a staunch liberal from California, the de-facto porn capital of America. (Feinstein wasn't available to comment for this story.)

She wasn't alone: five other Senate Democrats, including Minnesota's left-wing warrior, Amy Klobuchar, also signed the letter, and they were applauded by feminists, leftist lawyers, and liberal academics. Together, this increasingly vocal segment of progressives is making the case that hardcore porn flies in the face of cherished liberal causes-and that Democrats should be leading the charge to take down its distributors.

"To be anti-porn is a progressive principle."

The Daily Beast reached out to several liberal anti-porn advocates and asked them to explain why defending adult obscenity is incompatible with liberal principles. Here, we summarize the left's case against hardcore porn.

Democrats don't care if the country goes bankrupt as long as their man is in power

Republicans don't care about ANYBODY but themselves. Mitt Romney has 0% of the black vote, because every time that he talks about blacks, he refers them as the ONLY people on welfare. ALL BLACKS on this country are on welfare, and they refuse to look for work, according to Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and the rest of the racist Republicans.

Also, they do not care about WOMEN, because they do not want women to have ANY RIGHT over their own bodies, and they are FORCED to have a baby, even if they were victims of incest or rape. Of course, they are planning to take away ALL the social nets, just in case the mom, once she has the "baby"asks for any help.

They do not care about the old and disabled, because they want to give "vouchers", instead of coming out with a comprehensible plan to increase taxes for everybody, but ESPECIALLY THE RICH. The Ryan plan is about giving incredible tax cuts to the 1%

Wow, just complete rambling of sheer idiots on the thread today. Simple, it is either a direction that feels redistribution of wealth is the way to go "Socialism" which does not work or capitalism where ANYONE who works hard can be rewarded, not by taking from others but providing something that someone wants or needs.

I find it weird that anyone would oppose being free to make your own decision instead of the government telling them what to do.

And, if you vote for someone by their looks rather than there policies, that is just plan stupid. Get the facts: Medicare and Social Security is and has been in trouble so don't tell me that the FUTURE Romney/Ryan presidency is going to do something to make it fail. IT IS ALREADY SHOWN THAT IT WILL GO BANKRUPT. That is why something has to be done. Dah.

They better not create a voucher program for Medicare and still keep charging the same payroll tax rates. tha'ts what I call a middle class tax increase.

I saw in the WSJ the proposed tax rates under the Romney plan. It reduces the projected 39.6 top rate (assuming the "fiscal cliff") to 28%, but only reduces the 15% marginal rate to 12%. So people in the top rate get a 30% cut while those in the middle get 20%, with nothing to pay for any of it?

No wonder it's called Robin Hood in reverse. Believe me, we, the 99%, will pay for that eventually, just as CBO says.

I'm going to defend Todd Akin's idea about the female body having a way to protect itself in the case of rape, therefore it being improbable that she become pregnant if the act is forced. But I think he got the idea backward, that the female body does not defend against forcible intercourse but does enhance wanted sex.

From what I understand, it takes a substantial amount of time for the sperm to swim through the mouth of the uterus up into the fallopian tubes where it can actually fertilize an egg. However, like a male orgasm which ejaculates sperm and seminal fluid, the female orgasm draws this seminal fluid through the mouth of the uterus and up into the Fallopian tube that presently contains an egg, thus greatly enhancing the possibility of fertilization and reducing the time between intercourse and fertilization.

Now the depiction of this mechanism may be entirely bogus, but assume for a moment that it is true. Can a woman have an orgasm while being raped? I'll answer that with "I don't know." and "Does it matter?" A woman needs to be able to protect herself from unwanted pregnancy and if rape occurs she needs to be able to take any measure she sees fit, including pharmaceutical and medical abortion. She could even keep the kid and demand child support payments from the rapist, why should he get a free ride and stick the taxpayer with the bill.

I don't need you or the presidnet to give me a small business loan, just get out of my way of doing business and I will be fine and I will hire employees but until then, I am being cautious and not hiring.

You know, I give Obama credit for the first half of his first year but after that he owns the results so let keep it clear. Unemployment is OVER 8%, Debt is highest it has EVER been and you say those stupid statement about Bush killed the economy. BUSH is not the president so move on already. victorkingdom,

There have been 10 cases of in person voter fraud alleged in Pennsylvania in the past 10 years.

There are between 750,000 and 1 million people who will be effected by the voter suppression laws in Pennsylvania alone.

There are 73 days left before the election. Taking out weekends and holidays between now and then we are left with 50 days that the appropriate offices are open.

That means that 15000 state approved IDs. will need to be issued each day until election day. And that's just in Pennsylvania. There are at least 12 other states, all Republican controlled, that have enacted similar voter suppression laws in the past year to stop a problem that doesn't exist.

How does anyone think that this isn't a problem?

The middle class is hurting because they are shouldering a lot and can't afford to BUY.

Brianb,

Congress didn't "tank" the economy, that's a REALLY dumb statement. There were dozens of things that contributed to the crash, most of which was the BANKS selling repackaged CRAP to each other, and insuring the bets, and short selling said CRAP, imploding the market. The problem was largely the BANKS. You could argue the banks were ALLOWED to do what they did because of poor Regulation, but I doubt you'd be willing to argue UNDERregulation would cause any ill at all.

brian, the democrats didn't take control until the economy was already tanking...you are either lying or just uninformed. You still had the president but hey who the president is only matters if its a democrat in office.

Not like Bush didn't kill a million muslims and thousands of our soldiers on a manufactured war. Its not like he didn't slash the taxes for his best buds during a time that they could have been building a reserve. So tell me Fox news junky, how does the knowledge of the known terrorist supporter prince of Saudi partly owns your news source? Fox news isn't news, its propaganda.

Oh boy, another contrived story about the war on women. Seems like this administration have their hands full with all of the wars they say are going on. The war on women, minorities, illegal immigrants, gays...

But no one in this administration is talking about:

- The 1473 military personnel who have been killed in Afghanistan Since President Obama has taken office. You guys know Afghanistan, it's the place where the real war is happening, not the fake ones listed above. It's also the place where President Obama sent 30,000+ more troops to against sound counsel. He looked so presidential doing that, didn't he?

- The expected 23%+ rise in medical deductibles and all out-of-pocket expenses for military retirees because of obamacare.

- The expected loss of 27%+ of Doctors who treat military retirees because they can no longer afford to as a result of doctors being paid less for their services under obamacare.

But hey...just as long as that college student gets her free pills, who gives a rat's a$$ whether we honor our promises to our military retirees.

Except in the jobs category. If the participation rate (people looking for work for you liberals) was the same today as it was the day Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 10.9%. That 7.8% when he took the oath looks pretty good right now doesn't it.

Oh gee who has been the pandering KING since day one......oh that would be Comrade Obama. First the female segment of society with the birth control and abortion issues which has been settled decades ago and nothing is going to upset that wagon anytime soon. Then he panders to the gay community because he has 'suddenly found the light' and thinks they should be able to get married. He just pandered and signed an executive order to grant the kids brought here illegally a 2 year deal so they can come out of the shawdow's and work here legally. Let's call it what it is AMNESTY. He has always been pandering to the poor since day one who he wants to give unlimited foodstamp's to and make good on his promise to spread the wealth. Hmmmmmm, what's good for Democrats isn't good for Republicans? It's okay for libtard's to pander but not conservatives? You idiot lib's. You are ALL hypocritical losers. We still have the poor and getting poorer everyday due to Obama's socialist policies. The phony promises all these years that Democrats have made is a pile of c--p. They just pander to the poor and the illegals in this country to get the vote. They could care less about these groups. If they actually planned on taking care of the poverty in this country it would have been done a long time ago.

like in terms of abortion? what decision are you referring to?

And, if you vote for someone by their looks rather than there policies, that is just plan stupid. Get the facts: Medicare and Social Security is and has been in trouble so don't tell me that the FUTURE Romney/Ryan presidency is going to do something to make it fail. IT IS ALREADY SHOWN THAT IT WILL GO BANKRUPT. That is why something has to be done. Dah.

um... the $500 billion cuts Ryan proposes certainly won't help...

Yes, Women are smart but really, when I listen to the media going on about the attire that is being worn it just shows how rediculious they are.

Oh yea, I buitl my own business WITHOUT ANY assistance from the government! I DID!

So you put yourself through school (private school getting no subsidies from state or federal government, of course), built the road where your business and you home is located, have a well on your property for all your water needs, have your own private police officer and fireman on standby? Educated Republican women know that ABORTION is only a campaign talking point.

There isn't a middle class woman in America who would prioritize ABORTION over wars, taxes, education, environment, food engineering, welfare, voting rights, housing, banking, climate change, breast cancer, Alzheimers, infrastructure, or medicare.

The MAJORITY of GOP women (85%) agree ABORTION is necessary under some circumstances.

Romney and Ryan don't know their own statistics.

Of all the things ensuring our freedoms, our education, our global positioning..the GOP decides to pick on WOMEN.

Democrats won congress in fall of 06, took office in January of 07, and the whole economy spiraling down the year was their fault? Too little too late Mr. Romney. When you had the opportunity many months ago to make a statement regarding Rush Limbaugh calling a young woman a slut on his radio show and you were asked about it, you did not condemn it, you did not state Rush doesn't speak for Republicans, instead you stated "those aren't the words I would have used". Shame on you.....and when legislators were drafting legislation regarding women including transvaginal ultrasounds being mandatory and ugly crude remarks were made regarding "those women should not have a problem with it, they should be used to it" when asked about that rude, sadistic remark toward women you brushed the question off and said, as president you would never mandate that. Waltzing your wife out on stage is not going to make American women want to vote for you, in fact most American women can't stand the sight of Mrs. Romney. She appears on a major network special last week and takes a stand to the American people, "we've provided 1 years tax returns and there will be no others released". Who in the hxll does she think made her queen? She states how she relates to American Women.....bull, she's never changed a diaper, packed kids lunches, held a job, cleaned her own house, or sat up all night at the kitchen table with a calculator trying to figure out what bills could be paid that month and then got 2-3 hrs sleep before getting her children ready for school and working her 8-9 hr day at her job to come home, do dishes, and make dinner for her family.

Mr. Romney....your pick of Vice President sealed the deal for you with American women. And it should have sealed the deal with anyone who has any respect for women. Courting women now for the vote is usless....We fought our way through the glass ceiling once, we don't need the fight again. If you like "Happy Days" so much and the women's role of the 1950's ....great, that is your choice. But not the choice of American Women....you missed your opportunity Mr. Romney. Women in this country could have gotten you elected over Obama....not now!

"In January 2007(under BUsh), the economy had just set a record of 52 straight months of job creation. We're into three plus straight years of NET job losses since Obama took office."

Interestingly enough, Obama didn't take office until January 2009. And here is the reason for the "job losses" you claim:

"Obama focused his remarks on the improvement at non-government employers. “Our businesses have now created more than 4.2 million new jobs over the last 26 months -- more than 1 million jobs in the last six months alone,” Obama said at a May 4 event in Virginia.

Through April, private employers have added an average of about 900 jobs per month since Obama’s inauguration. During the two terms of his predecessor, Republican George W. Bush, private payrolls shrank by an average of 6,700 jobs per month."

From here: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-08/private-jobs-increase-more-with-democrats-in-white-house.html

So where was the difference in employment rates? PUBLIC sector jobs. Perhaps you can help me understand, do Republicans think government jobs are bad? Because GWB created so many of them. Or do they think government jobs are good, and therefore feel they can beat up on Obama for not creating more of them?

"The democrats won both houses in 06. 16 months after they took over in January of 07, the bottom fell out. GWB had exactly 8 months left in his term..."

Except the housing and construction industries began their slides in 2006.

"- The 1473 military personnel who have been killed in Afghanistan Since President Obama has taken office. "

And how about the 4200 killed in Iraq from 2003-2008, or don't they count since Obama wasn't president? See here: http://icasualties.org/

"- The expected 23%+ rise in medical deductibles and all out-of-pocket expenses for military retirees because of obamacare."

Except it's due to the cuts in the defense budget, NOT PPACA, necessary because we're winding down 2 wars and because so many Republicans are screaming "deficit, deficit, deficit." http://militaryadvantage.military.com/2012/01/dod-budget-pay-safe-tricare-fees-to-increase/

"- The expected loss of 27%+ of Doctors who treat military retirees because they can no longer afford to as a result of doctors being paid less for their services under obamacare."

And sorry, but doctors are NOT being paid less under PPACA. That's just false. http://www.physiciansnews.com/2012/03/15/physicians-post-ppaca-not-going-bust-at-the-healthcare-buffet-part-1-of-2/

So much misinformation.

Flip-flopping Mitt and Ryan won't let anything including pandering to the women, whom they have no respect for to begin with. Now, here is a quote from Romney that might be interesting in the next few weeks. Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for president of the United States, just said this:

"No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."

Take a moment or two to think about that, what he's actually saying, and what it says about Mitt Romney. This was reputed by the Romney campaign to be a "joke" but, like many other Republican comments, has deeper meaning. What he is really saying is "I want the "Birthers" and the bigots to vote for me." He is again, pandering to the ultra right faction of the party. He is afraid that these folks will sit out this election and he does not have enough independent support to get elected without them.

The Republican platform says yes, and they equate all sorts of birth control methods and abortions with murder. Todd Akin only drove the logic a step further to get around the circumstance of rape. I believe that there is scientific evidence that the female orgasm plays a part in fertilization but is not widely know. I certainly can't find it, but have seen TV programs recently that delved into it. As far as exposing myself, haven't done that in a long time and would be of little interest to all but a few in this forum.

Hmmm... The idea that Willard "Flip Flop" Romney and Paul "Coat Hanger" Ryan are trying to reach out to women is, "Bat Crap Crazy."

The Republicans want to make a constitutional amendment to make any type of abortion illegal, regardless of whether or not the pregnancy puts the woman at risk of death or serious health issues, regardless if rape or incest is involved. That is Bat Crap Crazy.

Where is it written that grey haired men should legislate what women can or cannot do with their body? How is it possible that MEN could dictate forced childbirth? Yet, that is likely to happen if Willard "Flip Flop" Romney and Paul "Coat Hanger" Ryan win the election. That would be Bat Crap Crazy.

Let's not forget that Willard "Flip Flop" Romney is a tax dodger. That's almost equal to being a draft doger.

wje - You are completely uninformed. The reason for orgasm is to make sex for a woman desirable and something we might want to engage in. Makes procreation easier (which is the main reason you right wing conservatives think women exist). If it wasn't for an orgasm, the thought of having some sweaty, grunting guy poking at you wouldn't be nearly so desirable for us, now would it? ♂ ♀ (Alt 11 & Alt 12 - thanks again Feisty)

No, the difference is that Reid is a Democrat and Romney is a Republican, anyone who thinks one is any better than the other (person or party) is a blind puppet and a fool. Anyone who criticizes one for while ignoring that the other is the same thing is a hypocrite. Thanks for playing.

Oh - and by the way, victorkingdom...

In my state, it will set you back 35 bucks to get an ID. If you do not have a proper birth certificate (don't be fooled into thinking that you can use the one issued by the hospital you were born in - here it has to be issued by a state government) you will have to get one...which is another 25 bucks. Of course, if you do not have the proper birth certificate, you will need proper ID to get one...which is a bit strange considering you need the proper birth certificate to obtain a proper ID....If you have neither, you will need to have one of your parents with proper ID order it for you. If your parents are either dead or do not have proper ID, you are screwed and will be banned from voting by the Republicans.

Ultimately, paying our government 60 bucks to vote for our government goes against everything our country stands for. I'm not at all surprised that you, victorkingdom, or any other teabaggers would fully support such unAmerican laws.

Kim - I am far from a right wing conservative, and I'm sorry if I come across as one. I am also well aware that a sweaty fat slob does little to enhance female sexual pleasure. But I also find it hard to believe that the only thing a female orgasm does is enhance serotonin levels in the brain. Contractions in the uterus expel a new born, isn't it also reasonable to assume that uterus muscle contractions could also propel seminal fluid toward an egg? That suspicion does not at all mean that I support the Atkin/Ryan/Republican position on person-hood, far from it. Nor does it mean that if a woman is raped it will not be accompanied with an orgasm. In fact I tend to believe that such an experience if it happens would be more embarrassing and traumatic than the assault itself. My only reason for defending Todd Akin was because he was at least thinking about the issue. To be clear, I totally support a woman's right to chose when and if to have a child, and that the concept of person-hood stretches credulity and is very close to a religious principle rather than scientific fact. It has no place in our constitution or legal system.

Aggie...paying the government to vote for the government is un-American. You know this if you are an American. If you wish to require that every American has an ID, then the government pays for it. It's that simple.

I thought we were all created equal, Aggie. I do not recall it reading in the Declaration of Independence that we are all equal EXCEPT for those who can not get or can not afford a Republican ID.

Perhaps you should do some reading on the subject BEFORE you barf out the Karl Rove talking points. Then, please inform us of how many documented incidents of voter fraud there were in the last election...and then tell us that all liberals give birth to martian babies and that President Obama keeps a Chicago-politics trained bigfoot locked in a closet in the White House.

I am sick and tired of republican politicians saying we are going to take our country back, take it back from who? The American people that elected Obama in a landslide, it is really insulting, it's damn ignorant, and arrogant, but it is how they feel, they want to take this country away from the majority of the citizens and hand it over to the wealthiest 1%. Aggie

When Mitt Romney was asked what he thought of the Rush Limbaugh comment calling the young woman a slut he plainly and clearly said "those are not the words I would have used". He is running for President of the U.S. and was asked a question, and that's the answer he gave. And for the rest of your rant about Bill Maher a comedian and Keith Olberman, well....you're talking about a man who makes his living making fun of others on HBO, because the content of his material would NEVER be allowed on network television under FCC regulations and a News show anchor who got fired for his over-the-top comments.

Mr. Santorum can't make derogatory statements about women in our military regarding their emotions in combat and then bring up a book he and his wife wrote blaming feminists for undermining families in America. Call out American professional women for having careers and raising children and then make statements that divorce needs to become more difficult in our country in order to SAVE AMERICAN FAMILIES. Then his wife makes comments degrading women who work and have careers as well as raise their families as "bad mothers" and that once a woman has children "that is her job" and not expect that a comedian who makes his living taking cheap shots is going to make you part of his joke line. This has nothing to do with liberals, this has nothing to do with President Obama, this has to do with taking responsibility for the things you say.....and Mr. and Mrs. Santorum said those things. Bill Maher is an idiot....his views on Catholics and his jokes I find offensive as many people do. But his jokes about Mrs. Santorum were no different than things he has said about President Clinton, or Hillary Clinton, or Michelle Obama. So why blame ALL DEMOCRATS for something that comes out of the mouth of a comedian who uses politics to make him a very rich man.

And as for your ridiculous analagy of why people had to show I.D. to get into the First Lady's book signing event or to hear Eric Holder speak and equate that to voting is such a far stretched attempt to rationalize Conservative thinking it's laughable. Michelle Obama is the President's wife and Eric Holder is the Attorney General. There is an inherent threat to them being in public. There is no inherent threat to life walking into a voting booth.....hopefully if enough conservatives believe there is....maybe you should stay home on election day.

there is something about the Romneys that make me think of the people from The Help--lost in a time of thin veneers, subtle bitchy behavior and 1960's fake elitism.

Ann Romney is a like a First Lady from the past, perhaps not so well managed and coiffed, but her role is similar. There is nothing to dislike about her because she's not there. She exists only to showcase Mitt in the public eye. She exists to prove Mitt, the heartless faceless(and he is faceless in his blandness) business man is actually human. But Ann isn't human. She's a political construct. Always saying and doing exactly what is expected of her right down to her multimillion dollar horse whose sale could provide a school for children at risk.

To say Ann Romney is charming is to say to Jay Gatsby is charming.

So what. Why shouldn't she be. She has had the best of everything her entire life. She has consumed fifty times what the average person on the street has consumed. She has people to do her hair and nails, drive her too and fro, she has every whim and wish fulfilled. She has produced the appropriate number of children of the appropriate age and they have gone to the appropriate schools because that was what was required of her. She has no idea what the person on the street must do to get through the next day. She has no idea how to even raise a child let alone have to work to feed it. She's had help with everything she does.

The Romneys are the American version of Royalty. Do we want to elect Royalty to lead us?

Then why did we ever fight for our freedom from England?

I don't know of any other President, First Lady, or any cabinet member that insisted on PICTURE ID. My point is, don't they think getting picture ID is stifling, harmful, inconvenient, dividsive, blah, blah, blah???? Hopefully, no one ever will be shot at the voting booth...but illegal, ineligible voters being thwarted, THAT'S the reason and a good one.

It was more than "derogatory" statements regarding Mrs. Santorum...it had to do with sex toys, self satisfaction, etc. That's just disgusting, not merely "derogatory". Knowing her strong religious convictions, and sensitivities, made that graphic, deliberate comment is all the more disgusting, cruel, and overtly disrespectful.

Since when is it debateable that a mother's FIRST job is her children. That didn't mean that she thinks working women are "bad mothers" Just that her kids welfare, well being, should come before her career. Who can argue with that?

Romney, Ryan and rt wingers have such a War on Women with their policies and religious viewpoints. Why would any real man vote republican? Repubs are trying to take away rights and access to affordable, efficient health care for your moms, your sisters, your wife(Wives for Mormons), your lovers, your friends. Why do repubs hate women so much?

Vote President Obama/Biden and Team America Democratic party! Protect rights and health care for all women!

Have you seen Romney's "likeability" numbers lately? Only 30% of voters "like" him. That would be Ann Coulter, a few demented seniors who think he's Tony Bennet, and (edited to be nice) er, guys like you.

Likability? Who gives a @!$%#. Maybe if you libs hadn't picked the most "likable" candidate 4 years ago we wouldn't still be in the mess we're in. You had a legitimate choice after all but instead choose superficiality over substance.

What an epic speaker will be Ann Romney: The stay-at-home millionaire that NEVER had to worry about making ends meet, have two jobs to pay the bills, etc. The "stay-at-home mom" had chefs, cooks, servants and was chauffering in her "Cadillac" any time that she wanted to go out.

Nice representation of women in this country, right? Because most women in this country can afford nannies, they have a rich husband that pays the bills, and they do not have to worry about anything, other than just looking pretty when the husband comes home for work.

          For goodness sake, Amy-

People are sick to death of a president who fails miserably at anything but playing one in TV.

Likability? Check out Obama's numbers on handing the economy, jobs, and the debt- all things important to the electorate.

He's not running for prom king- he's running to retain the job he was never qualified to do in the first place.

Most of the electorate got over the swoon by 2010. Those who haven't are completely divorced from reality.

          Obama shelved in 2012.

Actually since Romney has turned this into a choice election, likeability will play a larger part. But it is more than likeability it is also how much stronger our President rates in the "trust" factor. Several polls show that President Obama is trusted more than Governor Romney on even the economy.

(08/23/2012) President Obama interview with the AP: "I can't speak to Governor Romney's motivations. What I can say is that he has signed up for positions, extreme positions that are very consistent with positions that a number of House Republicans have taken. And whether he actually believes in those or not, I have no doubt that he would carry forward some of the things that he's talked about."

RCP (Average of polls) as of 8/24/2012 After Ryan Pick / Before Conventions
Missouri moves from Lean Romney to Tossup
11 Tossup States: Tied in one (FL=29), Obama leads in 8, Romney leads in 2.
          Delegates: Obama = Solid(142)+Likely(30)+Lean(49) = 221 +Tossup(82) = 303*
          Delegates: Romney = Solid(76)+Likely(58)+Lean(47) = 181 +Tossup(25) = 206
          Total Delegates: [303+206+29 = 538] Win = 270*

No matter what the statistics show about Heart Disease or Cancer, or any other disease, the disease of DENIAL kills more people every year than any other disease. It isn't just that it kills more people every year; it also maims, cripples, disables, and incapacitates more people and those close to them, than anything else.

Denial is the greatest stumbling block anyone can have. Denying that anything is wrong, making excuses, being a victim, and accepting the status quo will never move us towards a better life. We are either moving forwards or sliding backwards, there is no middle ground...

The only up side to a Romney victory would be the whining from his current supporters when they finally realize he and the Republican Party are not magicians either, and cannot wave a magic wand and fix the country's problems, nor are they interested in anything but their own agenda and preserving their own wealth and power while trampling on the rights of women, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Any woman, senior, or member of the middle class who votes for Romney/Ryan has to have rocks where their brains should be. But then, the Americans can be remarkably stupid. They put Reagan (and his trickle-down economics-that didn't trickle down-) into office twice.

Actually, IRRESPOND, either you are uninformed or just lying. I am an election judge and in my state NO ONE is required to have a photo ID to vote. In the primary, even thought it is not a law in our state, at least 75-85% of the voters came in the polls with photo ID IN HAND. Someone, like you, had told them on TV that they could not vote without one. Not a single one of them complained that some day they might need one.

There's going to be a lot of tears flowing behind the liberals computers on Nov 7th. When they finally wake up and realize that it's not Obama's charm that will keep him in office.. it will be the piss poor job of managing this country that will be tossing him out on his ear.

It is so typical liberal to have them base their decisions and forecasts upon emotion. They totally omit the other factors that have an effect on things that happen... like this upcoming election. I guess liberals feel that Obama will win on the fact that liberals are willing it with every fiber of their beings. I don't think that will cut it in November. There's a whole world of things liberals seem to forget about effecting elections, especially presidential elections. If the incumbent has done a bad job... it will be reflected in the voting. What I'm hearing is that democrats are almost at an opposite of the frenzy of 08.

Liberals have the perception that everyone should think like they do. If they come across someone that doesn't, the name calling commences and they dismiss the opposing thought without ever considering that the opposing thought may have strong merit. This board is a perfect example... How many right minded people get their posts collapsed... and then when it's mentioned, the liberal will say "quit your whining." The pattern of action is always the same... one where the liberal thinks they are superior... but has inferior ideas. Decisions based upon emotion almost always seem to fail...

I don't care how you think... It gives me a chance to laugh... and laughter is always a good thing.

I think you're right and the reason will be surprising. There are really only a small few who really still buy what Obama is selling (was selling in 08, even Obama doesn't pretend to sell it anymore). The people will get to their polling place (where it really matters) and once the curtain is pulled and no one can see who they really vote for they will make the right decision and vote Romney/Ryan. Maybe not because they "like" Romney but because they know he can pull us out of this mess. Even if they don't believe that they will still vote for him (in private only) because they know he can't mess up America as badly as Obama has.

And then they will leave the voting booth and tell their friends they voted for Obama and pat themselves on the back and continue to feel smug and better than everyone else.

Redhead Ranting, they hate Ann because she is a female that supports Romney. They're all so stuck in their twisted little world, that they can't imagine a female actually supporting Romney, so they attack her. I think she said a few things that struck a chord with them as well. They're likely jealous (as the female posters attack her with more ferocity). She is a steady, stable, married, woman. Its something they all secretly wish they had. Their bitter anger towards men doesn't stem from misogyny as they claim. They were probably rejected in High School and as a defense built up a huge hate of men. This hate of men drove all decent men out of their lives, so they were left miserable. They see Ann, they see all that they truly ever wanted but can't have, and they get bitter angry and jealous. So they started posting angry attacks on Newsvine.

If the moderators would take a real look at the reasons behind collapsing they would discover that it's just other posters disagreeing with what is said. Obama's "obvious deficiencies" is your viewpoint and one I disagree with.

Fine. Do you also disagree that he was less experienced, by a fairly wide margin, than H.Clinton because you've ignored that point the first two times I asked. I'll try again, why did you choose, relative, novice over experience if not for the "likability" factor?

I won't bother to ask how you could believe someone with his experience didn't have obvious deficiencies when compared to her experience because no answer could possibly make sense. A first time US Senator half way through his term compared to someone who spent 8 years in the WH and then 8 years as a US Senator. The dems choice of candidates almost made McCain's VP choice seem sensible, but yeah, that's just my viewpoint also. Never mind that's it's backed by 4 years of near incompetence.

We don't "hate" Ann Romney. Please--look at the comments made about Michelle Obama--much undeserved disrespect has been shown to her. Anyway, there are a lot of things we might dislike about Ann, including her disdain for those who disagree with her (remember the "you people" comment?). Perhaps we would like Ann better if she weren't married to someone who doesn't care about women's rights.

" Decisions based upon emotion almost always seem to fail..."

In all honesty for me personally most of the best decisions I ever made, were based on emotion, and gut feelings. I will give you one good example, based on a rational, and logical assessment of the expenses and probability of a guy like me (working man) successfully single handedly taking my idea though the process of patent and product development it would have never happened. I did that on gut and emotion, I was just dumb enough to think that I could, and I in fact did. Now it has never made me a millionaire, but has provided a steady income stream over the last 20+ years and cemented my reputation early in my career as an expert and unique contributor in my industry which has paved the way for many opportunities and positions, that likely would not have been available to me otherwise.

Now from time to time some young person will tell me they have a great idea, and since they know I have done it they ask what they have to do to protect it and turn it into a product. I tell them in great detail what they would need to do, and how the process really works, and after they asses the facts they quickly abandon the idea. I am glad I never had benefit of such realistic analysis.

Now to make it political, guts and emotion are not a bad thing, they are a good quality, and Romney has never displayed either to me.

How low can the ratings for the Republican Convention GO? That's what I can't wait to see.

I predict the networks will focus on the protesters outside the convention because, at least, they will be colorful and entertaining. I remember when the the Republican convention was in New York City and the networks covered the action outside like they'd never seen hipsters before. "OOOh look folks at home, people in costumes!" They marginalized the anti-Bush demonstrators, focusing on how "other" they must have appeared to folks in the corn belt, rather than on the issues they were protesting against. At some point, environmentalists and progressives need to start protesting in SUITS. And buy the press $350 bottles of wine - maybe then the "journalists" will cover them seriously.

Saying that you are going to take America away from democratically elected Americans implies that teabaggers and those who support or pander to them are NOT Americans. Teabaggers....You are either very, very stupid or you are anti-American. Which one is it?

I decided in 2008 not to listen to politics at all until the last month (my mother was dying), so I just got in this debate. It's not because I wasn't invited. I have heard from friends from both sides since early spring.

There is a tiny part of me that believes Romney might be better at business that Obama, but that's a major point. However, I look at his business record and I see a familiar pattern that I saw way back in the 1970s when the Mormon church did own Safeway. Take over a company, suck it dry for all the profits, sell it. I've never seen a store go downhill so fast. It makes me think that Romney is a one-trick-pony. I also look at the fact that he is no longer welcome to do business in Italy because of his ethics. That's really shocking considering what is allowed in Italy.

I read quite a bit about the Mormon church after the fiasco with Warren Jeffs last year, both positive and negative, but they definitely feel that a woman has "her place" and will not get to heaven unless she marries a man who has fulfilled his year of "evangelism" and obeys him for life. That doesn't leave me happy. And it made me rethink "heaven" and whether or not I believed at all.

Since I left the republican party in 2004, when they failed to get out of Iraq, as promised, I've been looking for an excuse to return. They won't give me one. They won't give me an inkling of one. They hate the environment, they hate women, they love Wall Street and Bankers, they love the oil bidness (which is good for the area I live in). They seesaw on immigration. Honestly, I don't know who the hell these people are. Not only that, but they are more extreme in their demands for beliefs in a god that borders on a cult.

Whatever independents there are left, the decisions are becoming ridiculous with the only option being leave the country - which I may do. However, long term I like the idea of cleaner air, less dependency on oil, and fairness in taxes. Just saying - but, I'm listening now. Give me something to believe - GOP, not some mythical threat of doomsday that will happen if I don't vote for you. I don't like the threats.

Why are the Republicans asking the American Women for forgiveness?

American Women are not stupid. Ryan has introduced at least three bills in the House defunding Womens benefits. Romney has said many times he is against Women have abortions. That says to me that he thinks women are not capable of making their own decision concerning an abortion. Ryan wants all Insurance Plans to forbid coverage of womens contraceptives.

It is a little late to ask any Woman to support the Republican Party.

Sorry Republicans you lose the respect of the Women of this country. Some of these Republican policies are Muslem in nature.

Aggie you are a perfect example of what drives Lee and my self among others nuts. Lee gave us some good examples of his observations, no lies, just his opinions of what he sees out there. If it doesn't seem like what you see then fine. But you offer nothing but disgust with him stating his opinion. This is not a way to discuss things, just a way to threaten somebody. It usually turns people against you. But realistically it means you have nothing to offer and I see these as being signs of your weakness. Give us something that shows some thought, we ain't seen it lately.

Obama despises stay at home moms, women who ride horses, and women with MS, women he says don't know anything about lif. And, as well Obama despises any women who are not voting for him which is a large group.

Additionally, Obama has stated he does not believe women who have their own businesses actually built those businesses, he states he has built those businesses for them. Pretty much that's it.

Romney is the opposite, loves stay at home moms, women who ride horses, women with MS, and is respectful of women who are actually still voting for Obama, a dwindling group. Romney gives credit where credit is due and salutes women who have built their own businesses.

there is something about the Romneys that make me think of the people from The Help--lost in a time of thin veneers, subtle bitchy behavior and 1960's fake elitism.

Keystone Pipeline; delaying clean up of Gulf Oil spill by NOT taking help offered by other countries with better technology to clean up oil spills; Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, George Soros, China, massive, historical debt and deficit, shameless pandering to groups for their votes, i.e. gays, women, Hispanics. "Leaks" to bolster his image,(and strangely just before election) additional regulations costing 84 billion $$, forcing Obamacare on citizens, strangely keeping documentation of his past under lock and key, inciting class warfare, while he and his family live the high life for all its worth; giving a "pass" to his friends re Obamacare; GE; disrespecting Christian religion, raiding Medicare for his pet project;courting for money and condeming Wall Street all at the same time; former membership in marxist/communist organization; Chicago mentors now in prison for corruption; growing Government; bashes entrepenuership "You didn't build that" never doing a budget;meeting with his own budget committee, but ONE time, never with other committes, or Congress......Promising transparency, promising no more lobbyists. Romney is a Conservative.

Conservatives opposed women’s suffrage (Right to Vote) for over 200 years.

Conservatives warned us that women just didn’t have the mind, much less the disposition, for politics. They would, of course, get all hysterical – and if they’re having their day! Well, look out, men! As Limbaugh cautioned again, uppity women might upset the “natural” hierarchy. Even today, in 2012, conservatives (such as, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, tea party activist, Fox News contributor, and founder of an organization where Sean Hannity serves as an advisory board member) lament that the worst thing that ever happened to America was that women were given the right to vote.

Wake up women; conservatives are not your friend.

Just a word to the women entrepreneurs out there. If we become, if we become president and vice president, we want to speak to you, we want to help you," Romney said.

Most women are not business owners. What is Romney's plan to economically uplift women who are not entrepreneurs? Does he plan to let the majority of American women languish at the economic level of earning only 60-70% of the dollar compared to that of male workers?

Concerning women, the GOP voted against the bill for pay equity.

Romney and Ryan have nothing to offer the 99%, nor most women.

Out with the failed right-wing policies!

              Romney is a Conservative.

Conservatives have always been the problem.

              Conservatives opposed the American Revolution.

Conservatives vehemently warned us that it was unnatural to rebel against our Sovereign Lord, King George III, and that doing so would plunge the colonies into disorder. They assured us, as the father of Conservatism, Edmund Burke echoed, that social stability would only come from the small group of wealthy aristocrats ruling over the poor majority. Conservatives reiterated that it was the duty of the poor to obey their “betters.” Their rewards, after all, will come in Heaven.

The conservatives say the same thing today that they said back in 1775. they are not your friend.

Ann Romney is a like a First Lady from the past, She's a political construct.

mg, beg to differ...she does not have the true finase that Jackie Kennedy had.

Both of the Romeny's seem faceless. Neither can identify with the daily grind that many Americans face.

                Always saying...exactly what is expected

She erred with the "you people" remark. Mrs. Obama would not have made this error.

The Romneys are the American version of Royalty.

Disagreed. The Romneys have great wealth. However, they seem to lack true class.

A simple example: putting the family pet on top of a moving vehicle and speeding down the highway.

                A tragic example: Bain Capital.

The Romneys do not represent the majority of Americans.

25Walker....Romney's represent more of Americans than Obama's do. How many Americans belonged to communist group? Were mentored at the knee of an avowed Communist? How many Americans hang out with radical subversives, racists? How many Americans apologize to other nations who KILLED Americans? How many Americans would drain our country's money or put us in hock to the Chinese?

Michelle would never say "you people"...doubtful. Not hard to imagine what Michelle calls "you(us)people" in private. Would Ann Romney have said "For the first time in my life I am proud of America". "All THIS for a flag?"

                    Aggie,

You sound like another right wing who can only tell lies.

Romney is in the .10 of the 1%! How many Americans do you know that are in the same economic stratosphere? ZERO.

What Communists groups does Obama belong to? What "avowed" Communist did he bowed down to?

You have omitted names and details.

                    radical subversives, racists?

Who are the radical subversives and racists?

Do not be so politically inept that you equate racial equality with racism.

                    KILLED Americans?

                    Where are your details?

How many Americans would drain our country's money or put us in hock to the Chinese?

To avoid paying U.S. taxes, Romney has his cash stashed all over the world. His favorites appear to be the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. Only God knows about Mitt's other "exotic" places.

Michelle would never say "you people"...doubtful. Not hard to imagine what Michelle calls "you(us)people" in private.

If Ann is "prideful" enough to say in public the words "you people," at "the kitchen table" her talk is more condescending.

Would Ann Romney have said "For the first time in my life I am proud of America"

Michelle is an African American. The Black legacy in this country often has not been pleasant.

Her statement could have been made against a historical background.

The Romney's are worth at least 250 million dollars.

The Obama's, about 11 million dollars.

If you believe that Mitt is more representative of the average American, you need to go back to 1st grade math.

Rev. Wright, radical racist G.D. America. Bill Ayers unapologetic subversive. Corrupt politicians in Chicago. He was indoctrinated into socialism as a young man and admitted that he sought out the most radical, socialist, racists instructors in his college career to study under. Never said he "bowed down to" communist subversive. He did, however belong to a group of Marxists in Chicago. He was on the roster. Can't recall the name, but I'm sure you can look it up.

And YES, Obama has borrowed from China and other countries too. China practically owns us.

But, I see what REALLY bothers you is that the Romney's are wealthy. Did you have a problem with the Kennedy's too? You must really hate Oprah. Maybe you feel hostile towards George Soros? C'mon let all of that class envy out, it's cathartic. Pelosi has money in other countries also, and no doubt in my mind that many, many other Democrats do also. Maybe even Obama. Should say probably. Aggie,

                      Romney's actions are toxic.

Through Bain Capital, how many American workers did Mitt toss on the unemployment line? How many children whose parents he fired, went without childhood essentials that deprived these children of a normal childhood? How many workers lost their medical and health care benefits?

Mitt's refuses to release his taxes. It is traditional for presidential candidates to release at least 5-10 years of previous tax returns. Your guy has released only 1 lousy year. Why?

Romney cannot release his previous tax returns. To do so will show that he was involved with Bain longer than he claims and that he either lied to the SEC and/or is lying to the American people.

Why is Romney hiding his staggering wealth across the globe? Answer: To avoid paying U.S. taxes.

The average citizen pays a tax rate of 30%. At the maximum, Mitt pays a tax rate of only 11%. Other estimates calculates his tax rate as low as 2%.

Aggie, you are betting on a failed horse.

The GOP's economic policies that financially collapsed America are subversive.

Obama has borrowed from China and other countries too.

The GOP favoring their wealthy pals, through trade imbalances, handed American over to China.

Yes, Romney is wealth. However, his practices are not ethical.

To all, the Kennedy's were very charitable. This political dynasty did not limit their philantrophy to those belonging to the Catholic Church.

What has Mitt given to those outside of the Mormon Church? Zilch.

Oprah is a brilliant and beautiful woman. She reminds one of Michelle Obama.

                      class envy

Class warfare is the GOP's speciality. The party's political platform is based on favoring the elite.

Hahaha! This is such a funny thread....albeit not on point, but its nice to see some fun and humor enjoyed here for even a brief moment.

Sailcat..... from: The Economist: Not exactly a left leaning publication

But competence is worthless without direction and, frankly, character. Would that Candidate Romney had indeed presented himself as a solid chief executive who got things done. Instead he has appeared as a fawning PR man, apparently willing to do or say just about anything to get elected. All politicians flip-flop from time to time; but Mr Romney could win an Olympic medal in it

                        Badda boom!

After reading the news about Gov. Romney's new energy policy - drill, drill, drill - and his promise of 3 million new jobs and complete US energy independence by 2020 I'm left with the same old impressions:

                        - this man will say anything, ANYTHING, if he thinks it will get him a vote

                        - this man will, or has, sold his soul to become President

                        - it is all about him satisfying his need, nothing else matters

You have to have a soul in order to sell it. I am pretty convinced that Romney never had a soul to begin with.

Look into his eyes...there is nothing there. Nothing. It's a little disturbing, frankly.

                        “TRICKLE DOWN”

                        A Fable

Imagine there’s a person. Let’s say a white male person, holding a hose.

Let’s say there’s another person, perhaps a brown female person, who has been working all day and is very thirsty.

She says to him, Please give me a drink, for I have been toiling in the water works, running the pump up to the reservoir. I am very thirsty, and even though I run the pump, it seems that I can only get water for my use out of the hose. I see that the hose is dripping a bit, and I know there is water, because I have been pumping it up to the reservoir all day.

He: OK, but you can only have what’s dripping from the end of the hose, as I have to crimp it here, a little above the nozzle. Just be patient and eventually enough will drip out to slake your thirst. Patience is a virtue, you know, and you ought to cultivate it.

She: Why do you have to crimp it? Is there not plenty of water in the pipe line, and more coming every day from the reservoir?

He: Well, it’s my job. You wouldn’t understand, because you have not taken a course in hose-holding and crimping, like I have. It takes special “talent” to hold a hose and to crimp it in the right spot at the right time, and to divert the water into the very best directions, you know.

Besides my training in school and my advanced degrees, I learned a lot of the technique from my father, who was really “talented” in this area of hose holding and crimping himself.

What are the best directions? Well, there’s my “therapy” swimming pool, and my garden and orchard, and my 10,000 square foot house with the 17 bathrooms. They all need water, so I make sure they get plenty.

Then I have to send a fair amount of the water to the Cayman Islands, where I have a really big storage tank. In fact, this storage tank could hold an almost infinite amount of water.

What am I storing it for? No, it’s not to water farms or homes or to provide drink for you perpetually thirsty pumpers. See, you wouldn’t understand, being a mere pumper and not a hose holder, but there’s an international contest to see who can store the most water, and I’m in the running to win!

It’s about status and prestige, and to show the world that we here in America have a system where just about anybody can store huge amounts of water, if they are “talented” at hose-holding and crimping, if they take a course in it and/or have a Dad who shows him the secret techniques.

It’s the American way and the triumph of the capitalistic system over all those other pathetic water-distribution schemes.

She: Well, I didn’t know that, and I’m very happy for you. Your success makes me want to store water, too. But right now, I’m more thirsty than ever, and I don’t think I’ll be able to woman the pump very well unless I get enough to drink. Can you afford to give me enough to keep going, or will the water I need to survive threaten your own very existence?

He: Lookit, in just the time it took for you to ask me all these ignorant and impertinent questions, you already could have collected a half-full glass of water, drop by drop. Why don’t you take care of yourself for a change instead of challenging me while I’m doing my job?

And, remember: Vote for me in November and then I’ll be in a position to give you a really good hosing.

To protect Romney's investing in off shore jobs he creates. Why did repubs block in that same bill, giving tax breaks to companies that would bring American jobs back to American workers?.....Why do Romney and repubs hate American workers?...Because of his greed for $$$$$.

Don't you know why, Willard is a man and men have more rights to freedom and privacy than women. You know when we ask for Romney's taxes we are told to just trust him. If a woman comes in claiming rape, republicans want women to prove it was forcible rape. No trust there.

One birth certificate was not enough for the republicans, but one year of Romney's taxes is supposed to satisfy our every question.

Mitt the twit just a whiney little crybaby wimp, not man enough to show the American people what he is hiding in his taxes. And this scared little wimp is what the republicans want to pass off as a leader.

                        • Reagan created 3 million jobs in 1984. So why do you think that Romney can't?

                        slodon, the obvious answer is

                        • Romney is NOT Reagan!

I would have thought even YOU could fathom that!

                        • Mitt Romney is NO Ronald Reagan!

Unfortunately, Mitt Romney is the DEFAULT Republican candidate who, during the Republican Primaries, nobody except a core 20 - 27% voters wanted. The most frequent campaign cry during the Republican Primaries was

                        • ANYONE BUT ROMNEY!

Now you are stuck with Romney, and like I said before,

                        • Mitt Romney is NO Ronald Reagan!

Face it! It's going to be President Obama for FOUR MORE YEARS!

Reagan is nothing like Romney. He raised taxes like 8 times, tripled the deficit. But Reagan also worked with democrats and democrats worked with him, both new how to compromise. Unlike today congress not willing to compromise on anything especially bigots in house. I listened to Reagan Jr. his son and he said that Romney is nothing like Reagan and his policies.

Reagan created 3 million jobs in 1984. So why do you think that Romney can't?

Because Romney is using the same playbook that George W. Bush did. Hell, his economic team is the same one Bush used. His strategy - tax cuts and decreased regulation - is the exact same strategy Bush used.

So let's just look at Bush's record, shall we?

Romney has promised to create 12 million jobs in his first term. A term is 48 months, so that is 250,000 jobs a month.

Now, you can download the monthly job data from BLS and check out the month by month figures for George W. Bush. Wanna guess how many months during George W. Bush's two terms there was 250,000 or more jobs created? Out of 8 years - 96 months - there were exactly 9 months! Less than 10%.

Republicans right now suffer a severe disconnect from history. And that's not surprising. History has not been kind to Republicans and Republican policies!

Suval, the women I know who vary in age and are Catholic don't support Romney/Ryan for exactly what Chilled #5.1 posted. He's a phony who fully depends on others and has exhibited no moral integrity for how far he would go to win. He as proven to be clueless on the broader issues affecting the majority of Americans. I am hearing from all my friends that they wil not support the GOP this election. Their policies especially the attack on women both nationally and locally has little effect while entertaining the few women business owners. They can engineer blocking minority voters but this time may have opened pandora's box. Women are joining the voice of minority voters and stand ready to give GOP members pink slips come November. Consider the announcement by State Rep. Mark Turzai (R) of PA assuring Romney as winner already no Catholic or any one can believe the GOP policy intentions. I would think Rep. Turzai's very public announcement would give the U.S Justice Dept. grounds to intervene and prosecute for apparent voter tampering in a national election.

This is such drivel. So letting Obama make the decision for women is better? How about we let women make their own decisions? If they want to have sex they can have sex. If they want to prevent pregnancy they can pay for their own birth control pills which cost about $10 per month ( a whole lot less than cable, cell phone or even a manicure). If they wan't an abortion they can pay for that too. If they don't want to have a baby and they don't want to pay for their own abortion how about they don't have sex?

Having a 'right' to privacy does not mean you have a right to be irresponsible.

Grow up and take responsibility for your own sh!t.

Redhead Ranting, respectfully President Obama is not making the decision for women it's the Republican platform/policy that does. President Obama is providing women the opportunity to choose not be limited in their options. Respectfully, I might add your philosophy regarding policy is a little misguided. Most women are responsible it's other factors that are included in the Deomocratic platform that provide women better options. I do take issue when others think they can decide where, how or why my tax dollars specifically go? I want women to have access to healthcare, I want women to have the option to save their life in a medical emergency when pregnant. I want a young girl or women who is impregnated by statutory or forcible rape including incest to have President Obama's platform options. What I find totally disgusting is when a man or someone else sets the terms and decides what I need or can do regarding my body and health. Do your research and see how many time Romney/Ryan have reversed publically their position on women's healthcare issues. Then consider should you have a daughter, granddaughter or if you already have how you would feel given any one of these possible situations as it always becomes relative. I am a mother, grandmother of girls and my faith plays a major role in our lives. However, I do not feel I or any other person should impose their belief upon others. If you feel so many are irresponsible then I have a question for you. Why then are there so many irresponsible? Could it be that those who should have guided, educated or counseled by their own example failed? Who gives anyone the right to decide what's morally right for others? I might add that despite my profound respect for life I don't impose or expect others in general to follow my faith.

I can't speak for Mormon women, but it is a fact that most Catholic women do not support their own church on the Vatican's ban on birth control. Ryan's views are to the far radical right of most Catholics! How ironic that Paul Ryan does not believe in birth control or abortion for any reason, but if a child is born to a rape victim or poverty-stricken woman, they will not support any social safety net them. Just let them starve! Even the Catholic Bishops have written letters to Ryan condemning his policies as very unjust, especially to poor women.

                              Mary

Thank you, and respectfully, can you give me a link or resource that is unbiased regarding Romney and/or Ryan's desire to make abortion illegal? I see that they have disagreeing positions on when they believe an abortion is an option (for lack of a better word on my part) and I see the republican plank but I don't see anything about how they want to overturn Roe v Wade, I should say that I don't see that they have any plans to do it. They very well may wish to.

I'm a mom, (not a grandma yet but it's not as far off as I would like it to be. We're hoping it doesn't happen until jobs are firmly established but they will do what they think is best). I do have a daughter and if she were in a situation where she felt an abortion was her only option I would support her 100%. If she needed help paying for it I would do whatever I could to help her. I'm not against legal and safe abortions I just hate it when people say that republicans want to take all these rights away from women. They don't (or if they do I haven't been able to find unbiased proof of it). They may not want to pay for it but most republicans agree there are circumstances where an abortion is necessary.

I don't believe their should be any restrictions on abortion. It certainly isn't the baby's fault if their was incest or rape, why do those two things make a difference? I just don't want to sugar coat what abortion is anymore. For the most part it's ending a life. True a not so small percentage would have aborted spontaneously if the pregnancy were allowed to run it's course but you can't know. The intent is to end a life. The why doesn't really matter.

As to why are so many irresponsible? I'm not sure that people aren't. This board tends to amplify the fringe so I made a knee jerk statement. Easy enough to do when a select few are shouting "give me mine and give me more".

I don't want anyones rights taken away but pregnancy is avoidable. You can use birth control or abstain from sex until you are ready to have a baby. According to a quick google search the cost of an abortion is under $500. That's about three months of cable or a smart phone but it's not 6 months of chemo or even hip replacement.

Exactly Red. I am a woman and I make my own decisions regarding my body. I expect other women to as well. I'll keep out of your bedroom so long as you keep out of my pockets. I think that's a fair trade. I don't expect you to pay for my birth control, or any children I produce.

To me, if I'm not good enough for him to commit to/marry, then HE is not good enough to be in my bed much less be the father of my children.

If you want to screw around with anything that walks, fine, just don't expect me to pay for it. CVS sells condoms. Buy them. Birth control pills aren't that expensive. If you don't anymore kids, get your tubes tied.

If you want control over your body then TAKE CONTROL OVER IT. Don't exepct us to pay for it.

If you want jobs for Americans then BUY AMERICAN MADE. You won't find that at Home Depot or Walmart.

Thank you for that eloquent and intelligent argument for why women's rights need to be protected. I'm a man, but I do love and respect women, as I have a mother and a sister that mean the world to me. They come from a long line of strong, smart, and outspoken women that weren't afforded many of the freedoms women today are afforded, but they were the voices that spoke for that change to occur, and its their memories that I find myself beholden to when it comes to my own views on women. I hope all women know what an important role they play in improving our society through their own examples of love, compassion, and respect for life and the rights of others. I owe a great deal to the women that came before me, and the woman that brought me into this world. I think its time that women stand up for themselves and don't let men dictate what rights they have when it comes to health, work, or abuse of any kind. I just wish we had more women making these decisions at the top and not less. Thanks again Mary!

                              Ranting Redhead....

I believe that even you should find that Mitt Romney's own website and the quote above is unbiased proof of what he believes. Also, if your daughter needed an abortion, you claim you would back her 100%, so are you advocating breaking the law, if abortions were to be made illegal and your daughter still needed an abortion? Furthermore, would you risk her life if a doctor, not a politician, told you her life would be endangered if she went through with a pregnancy that would be illegal to perform? Again, if you did back her abortion in order to save her life, you would be again advocating breaking the law. The problem with Romney's statement is that the choice for women to choose was made official in Roe vs. Wade. Republicans are the only ones openly admitting that they would revoke Roe vs. Wade if they had the opportunity to do so, and they've proposed to do just that in hundreds of bills they've sponsored in Congress. The problem with thinking this is a only a two sided issue is that it is not. If Mitt were to get his way, each state would choose which rights a woman has when it comes to abortions and her health, a 50 sided issue, and there is no guarantee that women are the ones making those decisions on what counts as a legal means to have an abortion.

FYI, pregnancy is not always avoidable if you were molested or raped by your father, brother, grandfather, uncle, or some other sexual predator. You would agree that a woman should have the right not to be subjected to that kind of abuse correct? So how do you believe a woman should be subjected to the reminder of that abuse if she is forced to have a child created by one of those monsters? Is she to give the child away? Is she to raise it as if it was a choice of hers to create? You say you back your daughter, but you would willingly vote her rights on these issues away given the chance. Please re-examine all the ways her choices would be affected by reading the opinions of those you choose to vote for. Don't take this site or any other new site's word for it. Ask the person you would prefer to vote for and ask them to be specific about which abortions would be legal, which ones not, and what would happen to you as a mother and your daughter if your daughter's decision to have an abortion was one you backed and possibly even paid for. Personally, I can say that I don't like abortions any way that they have to happen, but I also don't believe that we legislate personal responsibility. If we could, we would have no more murderers, drug dealers, prostitutes, or wall street fraudsters. The world is easier to explain in black and white, but the decisions we make individually are often made in the grey.

Take back America from whom? Oh we get it, from the BRILLIANT BLACK MAN in the "WHITE HOUSE" & give it to DUMB(Friar Paul& & MUCH< MUCH< MUCH DUMBER(Romneyhood) . Its sad that some , left over racists, from the 1950s/1960s/Jim crow era will vote against the best president we have had in many years just because of his skin color. They will vote for a man who was a dismal failure as governor, got a lot of help to put on a Winter Olympics( not the regular much larger olympics) , was 47th in the nation in job creation as governor( that state is now 6th in job creation in the USA under a Governor who had no "business experience"). Friar Ryan, Romneyhood`s running mate has no sense, and is not an economist. They say a "little knowledge is a dangerous thing" and Friar Paul epitomizes that. As some of economists have said, "Ryan read a few economic books but he knows nothing about economics." I prefer to keep going forward with a president who stopped us losing 500 000 jobs monthly . At least now we are creating jobs. The RNC had a meeting on the day President Obama took the Oath of Office & made plans to ensure he would not be elected by obstructing everything he proposed(like the jobs bills economists thought was brilliant)

Now these clowns , who put, bigotry & party politics above the welfare of Americans want us to vote for them? Hell to the no!! It aint gonna happen. There are some of us who have not forgotten who caused this mess. We will speak in November with our vote which "Big Money" cant buy!!!

If was was brilliant, then why have almost all of his policies failed to perform as promised and why doesn't he talk about the issues facing our nation.

You mean like forcing a woman to endure her rape for 9 months like the republicans want and is their party platform. No exceptions, life is precious except when the republicans are pushing war or cheering death brought to you by Rick Perry.

Or how about turning medicare into a voucher program so our old people can die without health insurance like the people who lost their jobs and health insurance under Bain and Romney.

Even though our military budget is more than the top 17 countries defense budgets combined, we are told better to increase the military budget and let our children starve and be deprived of an education.

All to protect the deficit creators and their tax cuts.

Brilliant? What a hoot! The man cannot find his way out of a dark room without his puppet masters telling him how. He is NOT brilliant, he is being used by someone else whom is quielty, behind the scenes, changing our laws without input from congress. Look out everyone.... all of you liberals and leftists, especially women.... the puppet master is priming this country so no one but whom they say will have any rights. If Obama wins in 2012, welcome to the US of A, the newest 3rd world country run by a dictator using a puppet (your so called brillian black man) and a telepromter to spew the agenda and rules to us. You think your rights are in question now? Just wait.... you will have no rights at all soon if the Dems win!

                              Washington Post:

Household income is down sharply since the recession ended three years ago, according to a report released Thursday, providing another sign of the stubborn weakness of the economic recovery.

From June 2009 to June 2012, inflation-adjusted median household income fell 4.8 percent to $50,964, according to a report by Sentier Research, a firm headed by two former Census Bureau executives.

Incomes have dropped more since the beginning of the recovery than they did during the recession itself, when they declined 2.6 percent, according to the report, which analyzed data from the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. The recession, the most severe since the Great Depression, lasted from December 2007 to June 2009.

Overall, median income is 7.2 percent below its December 2007 level and 8.1 percent below where it stood in January 2000, which was at $55,470, according to the report.

This summer, the Federal Reserve reported that the downturn eviscerated two decades of Americans’ wealth. The central bank said the median net worth of families plunged by 39 percent in just three years, from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010, pushing that measure back to nearly 1992 levels.

Few analysts expect a quick bounce back even as the economy grows, if tepidly. The unemployment rate was 8.3 percent in July, marking 42 months that it has been above 8 percent. About 5.2 million people — 40 percent of the unemployed — had been out of work for more than six months. Another 8.2 million were working part time because they could not get full-time work.

Corporate profits, meanwhile, have recovered. But with workers producing more on the job, the gains in economic output have not been matched by new hiring.

                              ...

Will Obama blame this result on George Bush on the Republicans in Congress. You can bet he will not take responsibility for the effects of his failed policies. Dogs seem to have a greater sense of shame than this guy.

It is clear that he would have flunked basic leadership skills courses if he had been in the military.

Bush didn't care anymore and quit, folded up that team. Romney said it was too expensive to go after Bin Laden. Then after the president and Team America killed Bin laden, Romney flip flopped and said would have made the same decision....uh huh!

I don't think your a stupid person as you are clearly trying to base your comments on observed facts which is more than can be said for most gop supporters on this particular site but i also get the suspicion that you havent looked very hard and have sort of assumed that if there was anything nefarious in Romney/Ryan's plans that they would have come right out and told you. The GOP crusade against womens reproductive rights is in full swing for the upcoming elections. they have put 8 bills limiting abortion rights to a vote in 2011 alone up from just 4 over the previous three years before that. And that does not include the desperately needed highway repair bill that the GOP tried to hold hostage until the Dems would let them add an anti abortion clause to a HIGHWAY bill!!!!!

Arizona - The Republicans don't have to steal women's health care, the democrats did that Two months ago.

When Obama realized that the popular Senior Bridge insurance Expired October 1st 2012 (The ACA eliminated the program and did not replace it), he took $30 Billion of the $40 Billion in the 2013 Budget from the Women's free contraceptive program to create a 3 month "trial Program" to replace the bridge insurance until after the November election. There is no word on any replacement for the contraceptive program. But, Why bother? They can blame it on Republicans.

The wealth of the nation has moved in one direction since 1979, towards the 10% highest earners, the bottom 90% are on the negative side in earned income.. Does not seem to be that this BS you are talking about has any basis in reality.

                                    Pleasure without conscience

praysalot - I absolutely agree that the best thing Republicans can do for their party right now is to hand them mind-blowing defeats in November, force them to restructure a SANE platform and hold them accountable when they fail to do the job that they are elected to do. Tarring and feathering Karl Rove would be a good start...

I so do not get how Obama has managed to become the "woman's president". He, not so single handedly, tore down two women in a campaign that was only second when it comes to nastiest.

He vilified Hillary Clinton, a woman who was 100 times more competent to do his job and yet glorifies a woman like Fluke who is such a stunning success she can't even afford birth control pills.

If you are a woman and think that Obama is looking out for your rights you are a fool.

Then please explain to me why Obama pays his female White House staffers as much as 25% less than their male counterparts. Why is his White House considered a 'hostile work environment' for women?

You claim that he is for women's rights, then why has he disrespected his female political opponents so much?

                                      LEST WE FORGET . . .

. . . since we now have Representative Paul Ryan who will no doubt be advising Mister Romney on the issues such as the Medicare voucher proposal. This voucher program will dramatically reduce benefits to seniors while dramatically increasing their healthcare costs, (OMB estimates that the Romney approach to Medicare/Medicaid will reduce benefits while significantly adding costs for seniors and the poor, and even AARP, which was against the Affordable Care Act has come around. Hospitals also are crying foul that the voucher program will shift already limited healthcare dollars to insurance company administrative costs; costs which far outstrip current Medicare/Medicaid administrative costs). Ryan also supports Social Security privatization. He and Romney want to hand over Social Security dollars to Wall Street (with fewer regulations to protect your retirement dollars). And let’s not forget the magical, mystical budget, where the GOP would increase defense spending while shrinking revenue (Romney plans to reduce taxes for the upper income folks, a tack that is the reverse of Bill Clinton, who left office with a surplus). Ryan also will push his immigration agenda, (no path to citizenship for millions of kids, many of whom have never known any other country and call America home. In other words since the parents did something, which is illegal, we must punish the kids). Ryan and Romney also share a common bed regarding their opposition to the use of certain kinds of contraception (an overwhelming majority of women in Ryan’s church use various kinds of contraceptive techniques, some of which would get criminalized if Ryan has his way). And let us not forget this war on women. Ryan co-sponsored a bill with Representative Akin redefining rape as “forcible,” out of their shared belief that some women lie about being raped in order to gain access to abortion services. The bill passed, but only after the term “forcible” was removed, something that Congressman Ryan fails to mention when touting the passage of the “forcible rape” bill. Moreover, Akin got the insane facts that women who are raped never get pregnant (he believes that their biology will not allow a rapists sperm to fertilize a victim’s egg) from Doctor John Wilke, founder of the Pro LIfe Movement. This is the same physician who influenced Ryan and Romney’s pro-life stance. In fact in 2007 Romney touted the endorsement of Doctor Wilke, the uninformed physician who pushed this “Legitimate Rape" nonsense and Wilke spoke as a surrogate for Romney on the hustings).

All of this is happening on the home front, but remember, we also have the following men advising Mister Romney on foreign Affairs:

John Bolton — Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security and Ambassador to the United Nations under George W. Bush. Bolton cherry-picked intelligence reports in the rush to war in Iraq.

Elliot Cohen — Defense Policy Advisory Board and Counselor of the Department of State during the Bush administration. Cohen pushed false claims that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11.

Robert Joseph — Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security under George W. Bush. Insisted on including the false claim that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger in Bush’s 2003 State of the Union Address.

Dov Zakheim — Comptroller for the Secretary of Defense under George W. Bush. He predicted that Iraq War spending would be billions less than it was.

Cofer Black — Department of State Coordinator for Counter Terrorism under George W. Bush. Black played a key roll in the CIA’s use of “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

Dan Senor — Senior Advisor and Chief Spokesman for the Coalition Provision Authority in Iraq under George W. Bush. The New York Times wrote that, ” As Iraq was entering its bloodiest days, Mr. Senor was a prophet and cheerleader for the Bush administration.”

All of these people were on the Bush foreign policy team. Now they are all on the Romney foreign policy team. In fact, Dan Senor, who was one of the most ardent apologists for the disastrous War in Iraq, has emerged as Romney’s chief foreign policy spokesman.

With Congressman Ryan added to the ticket we have the same old right wing ideas on both the domestic and foreign fronts. And let us not forget the trickle down economic theories and de-regulation, which helped reduce America’s bond rating, while helping create a worldwide economic disaster.

In light of all this I'd suggest a campaign theme song; let’s imagine Mary Hopkins singing: Those Were the Days My Friend . . . can’t you just see George W. smiling in nostalgic remembrance, but I bet the women of America will not be smiling.

(Comments from Bolton to Senor excerpted f

More petty information trying to tear down people who are actually offering solutions to the problems we face. Yes, the voucher plan will cost more for people 55 and younger when they reach medicare age (no effect on 56 and older). I would much rather have a solution that reduces benefits to make the programs sustainable that let millions and millions do without because democrats refuse to address the issue.

Good post. There is so much waste with Medicare that some things that are covered are not medically necessary. I get mail for a pump for my johnson to get an erection that is covered by medicare. What a waste. I'd rather have a plan than talk about a looming issue and not do anything. And while we are at it lets make the politicians have the same health coverage that voters have. That would cut down on the number of people running for office.

I would much rather have a solution that reduces benefits to make the programs sustainable

And there we have the best example of the GOP/TP leaders corralling the mindset of their sheep - EXPECT LESS, but pay more and give more in return. Talk about backward charity or more precisely, welfare.

Work more hours and give up your overtime pay. Give up your retirement systems to keep your jobs. Accept pay freezes to reduce layoffs. Give up employer paid health care plans and accept partially paid - reduced coverage plans. These are just a few examples of lowering expectations on the part of the GOP/TP. Now what is hysterical is that through all these lowered expectations with threats of job losses, it is those very same leaders that have amassed great wealth. Well DUH, when you convince your base to work for pennies on the dollar, that money has to trickle somewhere, and it trickles into the coffers of the wealthy.

The GOP/TP is the party of LOWERED EXPECTATIONS. Until the GOP/TP get rid of that mantra, the US will never again achieve greatness. We will continue to devolve further into the cesspool of a few wealthy elite, a small number of middle-class, and a giant class of impoverished.

Repeal Obamacare? -- and throw yourself at the mercy of private insurance carriers.

Let’s take a moment and examine the reality about what the Romney /Ryan team want to eliminate if they succeed in repealing the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). They cite it increases the cost of healthcare and weakens Medicare, but OBM and many healthcare providers call this into question.

In fact Obama's team has strengthened Medicare for seniors, saving thousands of dollars in prescription medicine costs for our vulnerable senior citizens by closing the doughnut hole. These savings will disappear If Team Romney succeeds in repeal (the GOP has tried twice).

Also, at least 30 million people will not be covered by insurance and will have to resort to using the Emergency Room as their personal care physician. You and I pay for this by increased healthcare costs. And if that voucher program comes into existence there are very few insurance companies, if any, which will offer programs with the same benefits as Medicare and at the same cost. Moreover, if you know anyone who will be subject to this voucher program and they have a pre-existing condition they will be left out in the cold by private insurance companies, which base their enrollment decisions on actuarial tables, not on the needs of our citizens.

The issue of costs?--Medicare administrative costs average around 3%, Medicaid 6%, but that Voucher plan will shovel an additional 9 to12% of the Medicare/Medicaid dollar to private insurance companies, which are notoriously inefficient. Although, if Obamacare is repealed the 15% ceiling on administrative costs mandated by the Affordable Care Act will disappear and as much as 36% (or more) of your healthcare dollar could go for the administrative costs of insurance companies (this is what has happened in the past when insurance company executives were awarded huge bonuses for clinging to your healthcare dollars).

Romney cites that 716 million in Medicare reduction as a terrible thing. However, the fact is that those particular funds Obama removed in the Affordable Care Act is being taken away from Insurance companies, who claimed that they could administer part of the Medicare program cheaper than the government, they can’t and didn’t. Their administrative costs were too large and the regulations covering reimbursement too cumbersome. All that they did was reduce benefits.

And let’s not forget that business of pre-existing conditions. Pre-existing conditions allow private insurance companies to reject you even for the most mundane of health issues, such as acne!

Women will be receiving a number of life-saving screening tests under Obamacare, and this will disappear if the GOP succeeds in their desire to repeal. Women who are poor desperately need this option. Team Romney will eliminate these cost-saving screening tests. Many women who can't get hospitals to provide free care will die.

So, where are the savings if the Affordable Care Act is repealed?

Until recently I was a healthcare provider for a clinic, which served the poor. We were providers for Medicare and private insurance such as Blue Cross etc. The government paid its' bills within a month and at rates which were low, but often better than the insurance companies. Medicare reimbursement was better because, without exception, private insurance companies added hours of needless paperwork thereby adding to our costs. Whereas Medicare/Medicaid paperwork was just enough to get the job done professionally and pass a strict professional review when performed by an independent reviewer.

Additionally, our clinic often had to wait as long as 18 months to get paid from insurance companies, which frequently made us resubmit bills over and over. Could any one of you wait 18 months to receive your weekly paycheck? Incidentally, someone in this discussion complained about a penis inflation pump as an example of Medicare waste. This device may seem superfluous, but it was not developed by Medicare and if you were a 21-year-old paraplegic Iraq war veteran who wanted to get married and have children you might not think it was a waste of money.

Friends of mine who are healthcare administrators welcome Obama’s healthcare reforms. And these healthcare administrators would like to see a single payer system, which the Republican's blocked and Team Obama supported.

One of my friends (Chief Fiscal Officer for a large Eastern university hospital) claimed that with a single payer system he could reduce a hospital billing department from 100 employees to 5 and many of those 95 would have plenty of other work to do within a hospital system that was stretched beyond belief. Each of those 100 billing employees had to spend hours and hours of wasted effort to satisfy insurance company requirements and then the hospital had to wait months for reimbursement, which often meant having to borrow to meet the expense of daily operations.

Team Obama examined the healthcare industry and the Affordable Care Act was a result of their work. Anyone who wants to dismiss the Affordable Care Act as something negative is not looking at the reality.

I would add that Medicare standards are the standard of care in the healthcare system and supported by major hospitals throughout America. So why would anyone want to dismantle the system? Well, actually private insurance companies would love to get rid of Medicare, they would increase their profits. Moreover, the Medicare standards help keep you and I healthy. Eliminating the standards of care set by Medicare would be the healthcare equivalent of totally deregulating Wall Street.

Before complaining about Medicare/Medicaid it would be wise to check the Affordable Care Act against the facts.

Does Obamacare need to be strengthened and in some instances refined--of course, but tossing the bill out the window by a bunch of healthcare knuckle draggers is a pretty narrow-minded way of doing it.

You must be proud of Romney hiding his taxes and the reason now is because of his cult church.

Does wearing magic underwear keep you from being a man and showing your tax returns like the rest of the men running for president?

If you think Obama is a moron, you might want to re-assess your entire philosophical perspective.

I think it is widely understood that the uneducated tend to vote based on anger, fear and religion (entire republican platform) while deep thinkers almost always go Democratic unless they have very selfish reasons to vote republican.

I think any woman who votes for a republican is just voting to make herself into a second class citizen with ignorant men like Limpy who thinks you need to take a birth control pill every time you have sex like Limpy's little blue pills. Or ignorant men like Akins who thinks that in real rapes women don't get pregnant being in charge of your body.

These are the type of men that republicans want to put in charge of your body. Men who think women are so stupid that when they come in for an abortion they don't even know they are pregnant and that is why the republicans have been pushing vaginal probe laws so women could find out they are pregnant before they get an abortion. Hence the 24 hour waiting period, these women just found out they were pregnant.

If women are too stupid to know and decide about her own body, how much longer do you think the republicans will allow women to vote once they have taken away our rights to our own bodies like in China?

*The GOP voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay for Equal Work Act

*The GOP wants to remove helpful government programs like WIC that assist single/poor mothers

*The GOP has as their platform that ALL abortion is illegal....meaning if a 16 year old girl gets pregnant from a rape walking home today....she MUST carry that child to term.

The GOP is whacko....and just saying you're "reaching out to women" doesn't mean jack diddly squat. Trying to manufacture some tax giveaway to the rich as being "pro-woman" is silly.

They are counting on the stupidity of the electorate.....it ain't gonna work.

Well, first lets look at the facts.

                                            1. Lilly Ledbetter needs to be written better. The problem republicans had with it is the removal of the statute of limitations, not the equal pay.

                                            2. This is a complete lie.

                                            3. Yes we believe that all infants should be protects, regardless of how they were conceived. It isn't about the mother at that point, but about the child.

Why do you think so little of women? Most women care far more about their children than they do for themselves and they want a better country for them to be raised. Why do you think that they are so selfish?

PutAmericaFirst and Joe Thomas Why do you not try to refute the argument with some facts as opposed to blathering nonsense? Why because you can't-you have no facts aside from the illogic that you get from Rush Limpballs your hero. Pack your sorry ass up and move to Afghanistan or Pakistan where the Taliban would welcome you and your misogynistic views.

I am so tired of this right wing religious crap from mental midgets like PutAmericaFirst and Joe Thomas. You are a poster child for the ilk of Todd Akins and others. I am tired of listening to religious rhetoric from members of religious institutions who’s male members are pedophiles. Time and time again I see these cretins spouse their views (as theirs are the only one that counts) and expect others to tow their line of ideology an ideology that also is against ANY FORM OF CONTRECEPTIVES. I personally know several of these nut cases and they have told me “do not try to present any facts to me that challenges my views that will force me to pull my head out from the sand (or other places where the sun never shines). I just have to stick my un-invited nose into others personal business”.

They are normally white middle aged males who have failed marriages, behind on their child support (like MI congressman Joe Walsh) and are more pro birth than pro life.

                                                1) I hardly need support for their disagreement with the Lilly Ledbetter Equal Pay for Equal Work Act....their votes are in the congressional record.

                                                2) The entire GOP budget completely guts portions of the social contract, makes Medicaid a block grant program, cut Pell Grants etc. etc.. Here is one link....google Ryan's plan and the poor and you'll find about 100 other links, as well.

                                                3) Spoken like a true guy....who doesn't have to carry the child....what a hypocrite.

                                                  Slodon:

I believe you are thinking of the civil rights act....and NO, that does not guarantee equal pay for women. The seventies had the women's right movement...you know, feminist, bra burning, etc...and still we do not have any laws that prevent employers from keeping women's pay lower than men.

Can you explain what the Lily Ledbetter Act is, and what it says....what part of the law is a joke. Any explanations, or do we just take your word for it.

The main thing about the Ledbetter Act is it does away with the Statute of Limitations. That means that a woman working in 1955 can sue her ex-employer,or any company who bought that employer, today!! Who gets the bulk of the money if proven right? Can you say LAWYERS???

The truly thing is that it might. These people scare the hell out of me. I am old enough to remember Reagan's trickle down economics....which never trickled down that far....but I liked him as a person...kind of like I liked Jimmy Carter....a good human being. Most of the posts I have read only make me want to say that the Bush years pushed us into the deepest depression we have been in since the Great Depression and into a war in Iraq that was totally bogus......can we not even remember back even 4 to 8 year.

Did anyone think this massive problem would really be fixed in just four years?

Okay, I am even old enough to remember before Roe v. Wade and now that I am protected by nature, and never wanted to make an abortion decision, the Republicans want to take abortion, birth control away.

                                                    PLEASE VOTE ........................DON"T JUST COMMENT.................

If I have to crawl, I will be at the polls and vote for OBAMA-BIDEN......and I am 66 and my knees are not so good.

This is definitely a "legitimate" rape...

The GOP is ready to bend over backwards to win over female voters then they will happily bend them over forwards...

                                                      Hi,
my name is Mitt Romney. I'm weird and will say whatever you want me to say. Trust me, I will even contradict, twist, or contort myself into any shape or form to make sure that what I say is what you want to hear. Just don't ask real questions of me; they make me very mad! By the way, Ann and I share the same hatred for dogs. That's why Seamus met its fate on the roof of our car. Next time, we will be more ruthless to any dog that ventures into our lives. Any such intruder will be speared and crucified for intruding into our lives and you people won't like it. Oh! one more thing; I have never hired an American before and it makes me nervous to say that I'll bring those outsourced jobs back to America but if that's what you people want to hear, it's fine with me but don't count on it.

Sorry to have to inform you but the following will NOT be allowed to speak at the Miami, Florida GOP Convention...

                                                          • Ron Paul (Who has delegates and did NOT suspend his GOP Primary campaign like the others)
                                                          • George W. Bush (1 of only 2 former GOP presidents still alive)
                                                          • George H.W. Bush (1 of only 2 former GOP presidents still alive)
                                                          • Dick Cheney
                                                          • Sarah Palin
                                                          • Newt Gingrich
                                                          • Donald Trump (although his hairpiece will be allowed to mumble)

Hope you are not too disappointed, but look at the bright side...

LOTS and LOTS of Retirees and Seniors will be standing outside Convention Hall protesting that little whipper-snapper Ryan who wants to take away their Social Security, Medicare and other earned benefits!

Oh, and God may make an appearance via his Hurricane Isaac, because he's really p-o'd at how the GOPs have been pandering to the Gays!

                                                          Let's be honest people!

                                                          • The real reason Chris Christie is the Keynote Speaker at the GOP Convention is because ...

                                                          Snookie turned them down..

                                                          And remember

This GOPera is all over when The Fat Christie sings!

Yeah the certainly are ashamed of their former President, Vice-President and especially of Caribou Barbie. She must have really had her noise pushed out of joint by this flat out rejection. Bush and Cheney are war criminals who did nothing to avert the horrible financial mess. So they'll have fattest, most obnoxious bully speak--I'm sure that's throwing red meat to the haters!

All this commotion is to take every ones eyes off Romney not producing his college records. If he wants the highest office in the land he should let people see his records instead of hiding them away. What does Romney have to hide. Did he get poor grades?

Umm Cincy, ya umm, you do know that the POTUS is the person who nominates Supreme Court Justices? You know if left leaning justice dies or otherwise leaves the bench and Romney is POTUS he will without a doubt nominate a 1950's thinking backwards conservative and the abortion cases will flood the court.

This is what scares me about America, so many misinformed voters.

Abortion shouldn't be an issue, but because the Right is God Dam*ed hell bent on crazy policy we have to worry about it.

CincyFin you are living and believing a republican con game.

Since the republican won in 2010 they have passed over 1000 new laws all over the states limiting women rights. The person-hood bill that Ryan and Akins passed in the house would make Roe v Wade null and void if only the senate would vote to make women into second class citizens too. Then Romney has promised he would sign it.

You just keep pretending that republicans aren't poised to make women into second class citizens with government standing between her and her doctor like in China. Just some more of that good old republican brand of freedom that isn't.

Reaching out to women is all well and good but what he should be reaching out for is the millions of men that no longer vote in elections. Men who have been disenfranchised from careers and families. Men who's country and government have turned their backs on them. A legal system that has time after time cut these mens legs off at the knees. A legal system that has reduced a mans importance to that of a useful tax paying troll. A television and movie industry that has continually put men in the worst possible light, even to the point of turning their children against them by using every prime time show and movie. We are tired of it. And whoever becomes president will realize that men have bonded amongst themselves and are beginning to organize into political and economic entities that will not be refused.
