Akin: 'We're going to be here through the November election'

Missouri Rep. Todd Akin again rejected dropping out of the Missouri Senate rate amid Republican fears that he's become too politically toxic to win.

"We're going to be here through the November election, and we're going to be here to win," Akin said at a press conference in Missouri arranged on short notice.

The conservative congressman has been under fire since last Sunday, when he said on a public affairs show that "legitimate rape" rarely leads to pregnancy. For that comment, Akin has apologized, but virtually the entire Republican leadership — including presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney — have urged Akin to step aside, and allow Republicans to name a different candidate for Senate.

Akin has spent the past few days in Tampa, the site of the forthcoming Republican National Convention, rallying social conservative leaders behind his flailing candidacy.

"Our position on him and his candidacy has not changed," Tony Perkins, of the socially conservative Family Research Council, said Thursday on MSNBC.  "He has a very difficult road ahead of him, and I think he's still pondering his decision as to what he does, although at this point, he said he's going to stay in."

Todd Akin, ostracized by the GOP, is now relying on his social conservative base in Missouri and the movement's national leaders to keep his Senate campaign afloat. Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, discusses.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a prominent supporter of Akin's in a hard-fought, three-way primary, also came to the congressman's defense.

"Who ordered this "Code Red" on Akin?" Huckabee asked supporters in an email on Thursday. "If Todd Akin loses the Senate seat, I will not blame Todd Akin … I'm waiting for the apology from whoever the genius was on the high pedestals of our party who thought it wise to not only shoot our wounded, but run over him with tanks and trucks and then feed his body to the liberal wolves."

The Missouri Senate race is crucial to Republicans' hopes of winning back the Senate. Incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill had been seen as vulnerable, though she's seen as having a political advantage after Akin's comments. She has refused to address the controversy over Akin's campaign fortunes, saying only that she expects to face him as her general election opponent.

Akin could still drop out by Sept. 25, allowing the state GOP to name a replacement. Akin would have to ask a court to remove his name from the ballot in that instance, and pay for the cost of reprinting the ballots.

As a lifelong Democrat and a firm Obama supporter the issue is that both can still win despite their bizarre words. Few are taking into account just how screwed up the minds of about half of the electorate (and far more than half in areas like the South and Midwest) have become. These are people that favor the Bible over science and reason and they believe conspiracy theories over fact. That's how messed up this nation has become. It's the great American tragedy. That and the fact many of these people have armed themselves to the teeth and that many may not be willing to accept a vote that does not go their way.

That's right make Akin the victim in a situation he alone created for himself. Show the voters that the GOP doesn't feel they need to take responsibility for a complete lack of knowledge on the issues they are expected to know and write legislation about.

Maybe the GOP (for once) doesn't want to seem like they are superstitious, medieval thinkers who might actually be in touch with reality? And if it means distancing themselves from backwoods thinkers like Akin, then so be it!

I certainly don't agree with his views but good for Akin. All he did is express vocally what the GOP has been doing under the media and the people's radar for sometime. All he did was express what Paul Ryan and the rest of the GOPers in Congress voted to do. Akin's words are the GOP Platform. Why should he drop out of the race just because it inconveniences Romney/Ryan; puts the spotlight on their radical agenda. It's not Akin who is the hypocrite, it is the rest who want to sweep their radical Platform under the rug and hope no one notices Akin's views are in their Platform.

Romney is no leader. His comments about his birth certificate trying to make it sound like a joke was gutter, dog whistle politics. I do not believe Romney is a racist but he deliberately threw the red meat to those who are. John McCain in 2008, had the courage and the leadership to stand up to the crazy talk coming from his party. I respected John McCain for that and still do.

Today was one more missed opportunity for Mitt Romney to show courage and leadership. He could have said, no one has ever asked for my birth certificate because they know I was born here...and then added, President Obama was born in this country, in Hawaii; I know it and you know it, too, so together let's move our party away from that kind of rhetoric and disrespect. A comment similar to that would have shown a leader but instead Mitt chose the low road to cater to the crazy birthers and feed the lie; he joked only to "appease" the ugly side of his party.

voxrationis, I firmly agree with you. It is so important for the Democrats to get out and vote. I was reading an AP article today about the what if's of a Republican Congress and Romney as President. We've got some rather old Supreme Court Justices and having the Republican scenario in charge of replacements is one scary thought.

Yep, good point newday ... maybe he should change parties, huh?

"If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

The above is so much more egregious and serious than ....

“I first pushed him away” … “I just told him ‘no’ …. He tries to kiss me again. He starts biting on my lip … And then he forced me down on the bed. I just was very frightened. I tried to get away from him. I told ‘no’ …. He wouldn’t listen to me.”

Or ....

“He touched my breasts with his hand …. And then whispered …. ‘I’ve wanted to do this ever since I laid eyes on you’ …. He took my hand, and put it on his genitals.”

Or a man accused - a man that paid $850,000 to settle a sexual harassment suit for propositioning, having a state trooper escort a woman to his room where the guy drops his pants and says …

“kiss it.”

What do libs say about this politician accused of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment … a man they even elected as president?

In the first two cases … not a word.

In the third ….

“drag a hundred dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you will find.”

And libs think they are “champions” of women?

Yep Akin ... should change parties. What he did was not near the offenses Clinton committed.

Republicans have come out of the wood work asking for Akin, their candidate …… to step down.

Kinda funny that the “champions” of women ….. haven’t called for him step down.

They will mock and ridicule Akin, but they don’t ask for him to step down. They want him to run because they feel he is the easiest to beat for their deeply flawed candidate.

The repubs have threatened to pull all funding for Akin. The dems actually spent $1.5 in the repub primary trying to push Akin past 2 better, harder to beat candidates.

Think about it, the dems will actually invest $1.5 million in someone they feel is so horrible for women – risk actually helping put that person into office – if it is their best shot at holding a seat? What a cynical and blatant disregard for the goodwill / well being of the women of Missouri.

And these guys claim the moral high road … the “champions” of women?

Hardly, this is more like a legitimate rape of common decency.

And sadly, this is nothing new libs.

Akin should switch parties, or if he wants to win now ..... Call a news conference and announce he will step down and run as soon as McCaskill or any lib apologizes for Clinton.

Boy, Romney what a leader YOU are! You told this guy to get out of the race, after all, it is all about YOUR election, and he didn't.

And how much press time did Clinton's rape take up? Compare that to this incessant chatter from the "Press" regaeding this distraction> As Clinton staffer said it, " Its the economy, stupid"

I'm off to a matinee, Prometheus , I am back and disapointed, and seeing as silly season is well underway …

    Yiddish-Inspired Sass for Election Season

    By Michael Kaminer

May your son the doctor introduce you to his fiancée, Bristol Palin.

May your child give his bar mitzvah speech on the genius of Ayn Rand.

May your insurance company decide constipation is a pre-existing condition.

It's not clear who's behind these Yiddish Curses for Republican Jews. But in just three days, the online phenomenon has attracted more than 5,000 Facebook "likes", a thousand Twitter followers, and — presumably — some lucre for Barack Obama, whose campaign gets a nod with a "Donate to a Mensch" link.

"Do you have a dad who worships Sheldon Adelson?" asks YCRJ's Facebook page. "A sister-in-law who answers everything with the words 'but Israel…' even though that isn't a complete sentence and she hasn't left Miami for 30 years? A brother who is convinced that Obama wants to 'tax him to death' even when you gently break it to him that he isn't quite as rich as he thinks he is?

"Well, now you can make your shame and anger known wishing on them just exactly what they deserve. (And remind them if they want to see a real Marxist, there's a picture of Grandma Sophie next to the bedroom mirror. And oy vey, is she disappointed.)"

You can also submit your own curse via Facebook. A suggestion from YCRJ: "A death panel? A death panel is too good for you!"

My addition is … Akin? Oy, they should free a madman and lock him up.

    Although Republicans might say-

God should bless him with three people: one should grab him, the second should stab him and the third should hide him.

Ha don't be too sure he has been elected six times in Mo. What they fear is that his honest description of their legislative agenda and their ideas are too toxic for Romney to win.

BTW the big difference between Clinton and Akin for those trying to make that silly comparison is that Clinton never tried to make his faulty thinking or actions the law of the land, as Akin and many republicans wish to.

Akin is an idiot and should drop out. It is one thing to be strident pro-life. No worries there; he believes what he believes. However, it is quite another to come up with some quasi mind over body birth control theory upon one being raped. What a joke.

The whole abortion thing is such a red herring for the Dems. It's not as if Roe v Wade is going to get overturned (and even if it did it is a states right to make law for their state). And it is not like the Repubs that do not believe in abortion are bad people; they just believe differently than the pro-choice folks.

Somehow this whole thing (abortion issue; not the idiot Akin statement) has gotten turned upside down with "assualt on womens reproductive rights", "a war on women" etc.

For me, I could care less if a woman has an abortion--it is her choice. However, I do not want to have to pay for it just like I do want to have to pay for somebody elses dental exam.

In any case, Akin is a bozo and has ZERO chance of winning (rightfully so, btw). If the repubs want a shot at the seat he needs to bail or they need to run a third party candidate

There are way too many "fringe elements" associated with the Republican party who try to insist that this was/is supposed to be a "Christian Nation", that abortion is "murder", and that rape victims who get pregnant are "blessed". I think Akin, Huckabee, Bachmann, Gohmert, Ryan, Romney et al. have willingly coalesced into a kind of Tony Perkins/David Barton Frankenstein Monster. Inviting this kind of 'thinker' into the party is one thing, but inviting them to build the party platform is quite another.

Akin never raped anyone, but the keynote speaker for the DNC, Bill Clinton raped Juanita Braddrick. What hypocrasy from the Press, what a stupid distraction from Owebama's failure. Clinton rape press minimal, Akin gaaf: way too much coverage!

Ya know, no matter what you think of Bill Clinton I don't think he was into forcing women to do anything. Rape is a crime of violence, not sex. I know that confuses you people on the right. Tab A is going into slot B so it must be about sex. But it's about control and violence.

Be sure to let me know how the most powerful man in the world at that time who had an embarrassing sting of women willing to cover up for him even when the truth came out would hate a woman so much he had to abuse her.

Accusing a president of rape, even a former one, is a serious accusation my friend. It has nothing to do with not being able to keep it in your pants. It's a dangerous and violent crime. You need to watch your stupid mouth lest someone peg you as a big a pig as the man you defend so vehemently.

      Seeking Sanity,

Clinton sexually harrassed/took advantage of Lewinsky and then made it sound as if she was a crazy stalker. Clearly Clinton's track record with woman is one of taking advantage of them and using his power over them whenever he wanted to. That is not even in dispute.

I thought Clinton was a good President....I also think he is a scumbag. Anybody who treats women like he did clearly does not respect them. Same goes for Edwards yet another sleazeball. Clinton is really the leader of the Dem party so it is interesting that they try to position themselves as fighting a war on woman. The hypocrysy boggles the mind.

And yes, I know Clinton and Edwards are not running for office. Neither are Bush, Cheney or Palin.

Anyone want to bet that you won't hear much from Sen. McCaskill until Sept. 26, and then the ads will start running? It's the strategy I'd use if I was running against Akin. Akin's October is going to be a real trip through hell if he really stays in to the end.

As idiotic as Akin's view is on rape and pregnancy you'd think he'd at least have a bit more sense than to say something like that to a reporter. The fact he didn't know better shows a serious lack of judgement I wouldn't want in anyone running the government.

Few are taking into account just how screwed up the minds of about half of the electorate (and far more than half in areas like the South and Midwest) have become.

You got that one right (pun intended). These people have shut out anyone and any news outlet that doesn't march to the same tune and these rwnj's. Yes, I truly believe there are dangerous people out there who will stop at nothing to get their agenda put into place. We laugh at them, but remember they laughed at Hitler and Mussolini too. We all know how that ended. The best remedy for this is to never let these people seize the majority of power. I would hate to have take it back like we did in the sixties.

      Feisty and Chucky,

Nothing like the most powerful man on earth seducing a 22 year old intern and then throwing her under the bus like she was a psycho ("Now you listen. I did not have sexual relations with that woman". LOLOLO). I guess technically it was consenual but I am guessing him being the POTUS may have influenced her. Hell, that must have been more effective than getting her drunk.

Like I said earlier, Akin needs to go. The guy is an idiot. I also said Clinton was a good POTUS but was a slimeball and did not respect woman (the proof here are the multiple lawsuits brought against him. Flowers, Jones, Lewinsky, etc....). He still doesn't.

Not sure if you have a daughter, but if you do and you have no problem with scumball behavior like Clinton (you know, the kind of stuff that get's CEO's fired in the private sector) then good for you. However, I suspect you will be a grandmother sooner rather than later plus have a daughter who is a single mother.

I liked Clinton as a POTUS. But make no mistake about it, he used his power to take advantage of and abuse women....nor does he respect them.

        Clwyd,

Not sure how much clearer I can make it but Akin is an idiot and needs to go.

However, I don't expect the the Dems to put Clinton out there as a role model to womans rights. If so, I suspect his speech would include something along the rights of women in terms of things such as kneepads.

Again, my point is that the de facto leader of the Democrat party does not respect women. This of course led to him being dis-barred and impeached (only the second POTUS in history to be impeached). And more on point, he did very well with the economy (worked in bi-partisan fashion which Barak will not do) which is why his sleazy history is rarely talked about. That is, this election is about the economy and in that vein, Obama has been an utter failure.

We need competency in the Oval Office. Obama is out. I think we can all agree that Obama's ecopnomic results truly suck.

          #1.65 - Fri Aug 24, 2012 10:58 PM EDT

The way Akin said it was stupid, but was he really wrong?

          1. A couple trying to have a child will conceive 25% of the time (babyhopes.com), but only 5% of rape victims get pregnant (American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology).
          2. All rapes are the same? True case. A man went to a bar and met a women there. She has a wristband that the bar uses to identify those 21 years old or over. Before leaving together, he checks her driver's license and sure enough it says she is 21. She ends up getting pregnant, but she was really 16. He is convicted of Statuatory Rape. All rapes are the same?
          3. Rape is a horrible crime and all rapist should be in prison. We need to make sure victims of rape are not made victims again in the courts so more come forward and press charges.
          4. The coverage of this story has nothing to do with what was said or it would have received the same amount of coverage as the stupid "chains" comment by VP Biden.

What better way to keep women down then to take away women's rights on all levels, most of all family planning and control over their bodies.

newscover -- Agreed. Huckabee exemplifies the hypocrisy of preaching "family values" but protecting those who stray. David Vitter solicited prostitutes, which was not only immoral but illegal, yet he remains in office.

Rather than "police" their Party and rebuke bigotry (racism, sexism, etc.) and conspiracy theories, this is Republicans adhering to the old Reagan 11th Commandment. As if the Birthers, Muslim Brotherhood infiltration lies, and other BS wasn't already bad enough, this sexist pig's view of women and rape along with pseudo-science QUACKERY cannot be ignored, enabled, or embraced. You guys really have no clue?

          Here's a hint ...

"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built upon the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him, out of two evils to choose the least. Wherefore, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows that whatever form thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others.

.... Clinton ... Bush were big government "necessary evils". Obama has become an "intolerable evil."

Need a an example of ..."for when we suffer" ...look no further than than the social engineering of big government that created the economic collapse and the state of the economy today.

Our founding fathers got it ... the unsophisticated populace of the 1700's got it ...

Sorry you guys don't get it.

The problem, as usual, is that Conservatives seem to have lost any ability to understand nuance. Since we don't think Clinton should be locked up for committing adultery it means that we all support adultery and have no family values.

They don't see any difference between adultery and rape. It's all black and white for them.

Kind of like all the Republicans who rail against how evil and wrong government is and how it doesn't work...then spend millions making sure that they're the ones who are in government to make sure that it can't work.

          Charlie,

If you believe the polls I guess that is good news for the incumbant POTUS....a virtual tie at this point.

Byron, no problem with Clintons performance in office; he did a good job. That being said certainly you must admit he treats women poorly, used his power to take advantage of them and does not respect them.

I mean really; the intern in the Oval Office episode. And I know it was consensual blah, blah, blah. But seriously. Whatever with the fraternity stuff in the Oval Office. A bit beneath the POTUS, but whatever--no big deal. LOLOLOLOL.

However, the part that was entirely wrong about that was the aftermath where Clinton tried to make Lewinsky look like some fruit cake, nut, stalker, liar that he barely knew. Essentially the POTUS bringing the full force of the POTUS office to crush a naive 22 year old intern.

Bill, you may have wanted to confiscate the dress prior to Monica leaving that day.....LOLOLOL.

Admit it man, the leader of the Democrat party is no friend of womans rights.....unless you view kneepads as a womans right.

          Mike,

Any way you slice it Clintons actions were clearly an abuse of power and influence. As far as I am concerned, once he got caught is where I have the problem (the old Ms. Lewinsky is nuts angle). Instead, maybe he should have manned up and simply said "yes, I had an affair with Monica Lewinski and me and Hillary are working through this private matter. We plan to keep it private and I will continue to conduct my POTUS responsibilities without interruption".

Instead, to cover up his affair he positioned to make it look like Lewinsky was ready to do the Glenn Close Bunny in the boiling pot of water from Fatal Attraction movie. HE made it public when he threw Lewinsky under the bus in public.

I could care less what he does/did in his private life. However, how he handled it clearly demonstrates his lack of respect for the fairer sex (along with all the other affairs he had). This much is clear: the then POTUS, now defacto leader of the Dem party is no friend of womens rights.

Not sure where you are coming from with the Republican broad brush attack on womans rights. If you are referencing their pro-life/antiabortion platform then I do not see how that is an attack on womans rights. They clearly disagree with pro-choice folks. It does not make them "wrong"; it just means they have a different viewpoint on abortion.

For me; I am pro-choice all the way. I could care less if someone has an abortion; it the woman's choice at all times. That being said, I do not want to pay for it out of my tax dollars in the same vein as I do not want to pay for your dental work.

So please, spare me the Repub war on woman crap when you have multiple, high profile democrat leaders (Clinton, Jessie Jackson Sr., John Edwards, Al Sharpton, Anthony Weiner etc.) who have clearly demonstrated they do not respect women.

If you believe Akin was actually right in his conclusion, you are wrong. CNN states (Aug. 22):

            Vox, sadly, you are correct.

Perhaps the modern Republican Party just needs to go ahead and make their platform thus.

            1. We are the arbiters of the will of the one true god on earth.
            2. We and only we (and televangelists that bring lots of voters) know the true will of the one and only god.
            2. God commands us to legislate the word of god (as we see it) upon all the nation.
            3. All who disagree are not of god.
            4. Shrimp cocktail (and any other thing we like forbidden in Leviticus) is OK because while the entire Bible is literally 100% true, there are a couple of bad translation spots, and only we know which ones they are.
            5. Anyone who does not agree with us on EVERY POINT, will burn in everlasting hell fire, and will not be invited to the hospitality suite, either.

This is a great pity, too, because the Democratic Party is little better ... really ...

Or, you can say the modern Democrat Party is:

1). We believe President Obama because he says so.

2). We will plagerize when neccessary

3). We support our leaders who treat women with disdain and no respect

              4). Everything should be "free"

5). We are the party of "cool"

6). Accountability sucks; we do not believe in it

7). Europe is better than us

8). If you do not agree with us, then you must be an idiot. There is no reasonable explanation for believing there may be another solution. You must be demonized if you disagree.

              9). It's Bushes fault forever

VK, if you run across very many of our posts here, you will know that we are no fan of either party ... we simply consider the current flavor of the Republican party more fundamentally dangerous to the ideas upon which our nation was conceived ... most especially their insistence upon the insertion of a wildly errant, small minded perversion of the Protestant Christian faith into government ... but make no mistake ... we consider the Democrats only slightly less dangerous.

"This is not going in his favor, so you have to step aside from self, from yourself, your desire to get in there and serve and do what you believe is right, and you have to, in a sense, take one for the team. You have to step aside. Hand the mantle to someone else." - Sarah Palin, 8/21/2012

Translation (for those of you who don't speak word salad): "Akin should quit."

When even the former-half-term-governor tells you it's time to quit...

                  DaNoid,

Pain will not be at the convention, but Huckabee is and will be speaking.

Wonder if he has enough guts to say tot he convention what he sent in his email.

Romney will have his hands full keeping his base on board.

His birther remark today was his way of indulging the 30% of the GOP who think Obama was not born in the US.

He really is not in control of his party... in fact,I think most of them control Romney.

You don't need a brain when all the bad that happens is God's will, and all the good that happens is due to corporations giving people the opportunity to work, and there is nothing in between these 2 truths that we need to know. If something worthwhile comes up rush will tell me during the day, Glenn will explain to me when rush isn't on at night....why do we need brains? Quit confusing people with that kind of talk...having brains might propagate more questions, and there is no place in the cesspool for more questions.

Isn't that considered murder according to today's GNOP?

I believe it is. The mass murder being committed at certain online sites on an hourly basis is mind boggling. It must number in the billions of trillions.

The median ejaculation (50th percentile) contained 255 million sperm.[6] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semen_analysis

Along those lines, I can't wait to see Akin and his BFF Tony start the Tampon Project. God forbid, a fertilized egg goes rogue and is discarded during the menstrual cycle. Team Akin/Tony will need to inspect each discarded tampon to ensure the woman didn't intentionally cause the rogue egg. Pity the poor woman found with the rogue egg - that will be a life in prison, all in the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness for zygotes (and corporations).

After all, they claim freedoms are granted by God/Jesus/Nature yet, I cannot find a single passage along the lines "Thou shalt bear arms and shoot thy neighbor".

"And just think, Mitt's sittin' on all that cash, about to unleash it next week."

I am thinking that all of us will witness lots of "shock and awe" until we all want to throw up...

But at the end of day, I believe Obama will win reelection.

It will burst the bubble of the unlimited, unnamed super pacs.

And the old guys with more money than they can throw away before they die will make lots of young wives very rich in years to come.

Six million children die of hunger every year.[3]Figures on actual starvation are difficult to come by, but according to the FAO, the less severe condition of undernourishment currently affects about 925 million people, or about 14% of the world population.[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starvation

Being an Independent voter myself, I'll be watching the voting results in Missouri to get an indication of the general state of adult education. It's the Electoral College who elects the president, and so the voters are only casting their ballots for their state's representation. If Akins receives a large vote, it will be an indication of the extent of scientific illiteracy in that state, and or faith based illiteracy which I consider to be roughly equivalent.

There are higher standards to being a leader in society than just being biologically alive. There are numerous faiths in this country, your's being just one. Aren't they teaching honor and integrity in church, or mother's teaching such ideals to their children while at home? Akins if he were an honorable man, would see is error against a greater cause he exposes to believe in, and even if his greater cause were a minority belief, he would still understand that he should stand down for that cause's chance of survival. An example of this idea is the Japanese officers who committed suicide in WWII. Theirs was a loosing cause, but they still exhibited a sense of honor. So now if Akins stays, he's not only an idiot, but without a sense of honor as well...AND HOW DOES THAT SPEAK OF HIS CONSTITUENCY?

Let's take this to the barnyard level of thinking, for those who weren't allowed a good education. " But she's such a good mother. " Reply, " I've heard of a nanny goat being termed a good mother but I don't plan on marrying a goat. " The "good intentions" of the voters of the State of Missouri should look at the good of the future of the State, and forget about any insinuation that if you vote conservative that gets you a personal ticket into heaven. I'd suggest the voters vote for representation who can get federal sponsorship for public works projects and such into their state in the near future. Akins stupid comments about rape isn't the kind of thinking that is going to accomplish such goals.

ruk .. this one is not hiding ... though we see you trying to hide behind a bible there ... that will make no difference to us ... it is just an ordinary book ... conceived and written by many mortal men ... (though it does contain knowledge that is far above your head, and you have no idea at all that it is even there; you would not like it, either) ... translated and compiled by other men ... though I do hate the idea of damaging any book ... as all ideas must have equal footing in a truly free nation.

I never ceased to be amazed at those who demand government get out of their business ... until it is this issue, and then they demand government be in everyone's business .. and bedroom ... or closet, for that matter ...no politician or cleric is welcome into my personal decisions ... no Republican ... no Democrat ... no priest ...

Even if he looks just like his father? BTW that won't be you. Nah you'll just abandon it to someone else to raise at someone else's expense. BTW Plan B stops the pregancy before it is a child. larry,

The question is about treatment women in the 12 century.

Women in the 12 century were either the property of their fathers or husband. They had no legal right of their own.

Even in the middle ages, the greatest mind of the day Thomas Aquinas said "women were misbegotten males."

T.Akin still does not understand the basic biology of women. He has a 12 century mind.

Give me a break, Larry. No one is advocating infanticide. It's just that you people seem to have slept through biology class and don't understand that a zygote/embryo isn't a fully developed person. What is 12th century is for the government (or anyone else for that matter) to mandate that a woman impregnated through rape or incest be forced to give birth against her will. Furthermore, it seems to me that all the people who are hollering about right to life are the same people who want to get rid of Medicaid, Aid to Dependent Children, and food stamps, thus their hypocrisy is clear. They care only about the unborn. Once those children are born, they should feel free to starve and live in poverty.

like Michael Moore's movies? See this movie and then tell me if it is based on lies, don't be so myopic. I sat through a couple of Moor's movies and can tell you yhat they are typical leftist propaganda, devoid of truth and substance.

Don't act like a Union hack and regurgitate everything george Soros tell you. Karl Marx said " the end justifies the means" meaning it's ok for Progressives to lie! See the movie! No seas pendejo.

                                    #17.7 - Fri Aug 24, 2012 7:26 PM EDT

cal20 - Marx stole that quote from Nicolo Machiavelli in his writings "The Prince". Machiavelli wrote it to partially support his ideas on how a Republic shoud be run. Remember that he was alive in the Medici timeframe were force being used to remove a political rival was the norm.

Evidence of this idea being practiced in the modern era: "Swiftboat"; accusing Sen. McCain of fathering an illegitimate black child; birthers; accusing a President of being a Muslim and supporting terrorism; "apologizing for America world tour"; the bogus OPSEC video; Valerie Plame; (the recent quote from) Hank Williams, Jr.; Karl Rove's actions on behalf of President Bush and Gov. Romney (Crossroads, etc.); Rush Limbaugh's accusations; etc.

It is NOT a phrase that means "it's ok for Progressives to lie."

paraphrasing is condoning. . . Michael Moore is a propaganda instument; twisting facts to make his point. That's akin to lying. And don't forget Rachel's ranting.

But akin has always been fully supported by mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com. Especially the ryan man who was his closest and best buddy who wants to become vp. The two authored soooo many bills that went nowhere in the area of defining rape. Much like what akin described. He shouldn't back away from something he truly believes in. No. No. This is democracy. Representative govt. But i tell you, mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com controls nearly everything the people who have signed mr grover's no-tax incrase pledge form. Driving some women away because of the no abortion due to rape issue.

But what can you say. You can tell mr grover, the gop, the rushbo, & foxnews.com are ideologues. They have difficulty with the facts and the truth. It's why they have problems with science - the branch of knowledge dealing with the body of facts and truths. They have a war on science, the truth, and the facts. So be careful of what they will tell you. They have a culture of lies.

But our democracy is based upon being who you are. The country doesn't really want anybody who is working and in fact just a puppet for other people. No. No. The country with all of its voters have no control over govt officials who are actually controlled by puppet masters. It's like the raising income taxes on the wealthy. Dropping the temporary bushman tax income tax cuts. No way say mr grover and his wealthy sponsors. Drop the temporary tax cuts on the wealthy say the vast majority of the country. Mr grover says that anyone in congress who breaks his/her written and signed pledge to not raise taxes will not be reelected. Mr grover rules the gop in the area of tax increases on the wealthy.

hummbird - exactly right. He had the nerve to say what he really thinks unlike the two goons at the top of the ticket. They aren't incensed that he believes what he said, they're just mad that he said it and there isn't a nickel's worth of difference between him and Paul Ryan, ergo Romney. He outed them, and their heads are exploding because of it.

"he outed them". That's exactly what he did. Many Republicans didn't even realize Romney's stance was no abortions WHATSOEVER and they assumed he supported instances of rape, incest and health concerns of the mother. Now they're scratching their heads going "WHAT!!?" Thank you Akin.

Remember Star Trek? When a yeoman would beam down? They always had red shirts and you knew Yeoman Olson was not coming back?

Akin is wearing a red shirt.

I'm waiting to see the reaction of MSNBC (which has all but buried him) if he wins.

William - what would that say about any group of people who would vote for someone who is clearly not qualified to walk across the street without someone guiding him? Oh right - it would say they're Republicans!

You have a man in the white house for over three years and he still isn't qualified to sit their and you speak about qualifications. This man would mess up a lemon aid stand and you will vote for him again. Why?
