Republican convention will feature tribute to Ron Paul

The Republican National Convention will pay tribute to Texas Rep. Ron Paul during the second night of its convention.

Romney campaign adviser Russ Schriefer told reporters on Friday that the Romney campaign had assented to requests by Paul supporters to air a "short" film paying tribute to the retiring Texas congressman, who's attracted a devoted following in his two bids for the GOP presidential nomination.

The film — along with a speaking slot Monday for the congressman's son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul — is a nod toward the influence of Ron Paul, whose supporters, convention organizers have worried, might stir a small commotion during the roll call vote to nominate Romney.

Schriefer confirmed that convention delegates would vote to formally nominate Romney for president on Monday; the presumptive Republican nominee would become the official Republican nominee on Thursday night, when he accepts the nomination. (At this point, Romney would be able to access and spend funds he has raised for use in the general election campaign.)

Top Talkers: The Cycle host joins the Morning Joe panel to talk about the upcoming speeches at the Republican National Convention and to explain why Mitt Romney "needs a moment where he looks presidential"  to excite the base and have them rally around him. The panel also discusses the possibility of Romney receiving the nomination early.

Television networks have signaled that they will only broadcast three nights of coverage, raising the possibility that Monday's festivities — including a planned speech by Ann Romney — would be missed by a national audience. Schriefer wouldn't shoot down rumors that the Romney campaign might move Ann Romney's speech if the networks don't extend their coverage plans.

"I'm optimistic that the right thing will be done," he said.

Other features of the convention include plans to feature fellow members of Romney's Mormon church, and 15 Olympians — meant to highlight Romney's widely acclaimed tenure as head of the Salt Lake City Olympics. Three Olympians will speak, most prominently Mike Eruzione, the captain of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice" Olympic hockey team.

Organizers are pushing ahead with planning despite warnings of a major storm turning toward Tampa, the site of the convention. Schriefer boasted in particular of the modern backdrop onstage of speakers, which he described as a "Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired piece of architecture."

They can pay tribute to anyone they want but why a Libertarian goofball? Pure anarchy is not something I want to pay tribute to. Cockamaimie ideas are not something I want to pay tribute to. I would think that they would want to worship Reagan, as they've done in the past, or they could make a tribute to Dubya who many think was such a wonderful pres., then there's Dick Cheney, why not? Cheney is so typical of the Neocon Fascist that is running their party now. Maybe to shut up those peskly little Paul supporters is what they have in mind.

Go Isaac.

The Koch Brothers announced today that they are demanding the Republican Party emblem be changed to a condom because,

    • A condom:
    1. more clearly reflects the party's political stance.
    2. stands up to inflation,
    3. halts production,
    4. destroys the next generation,
    5. protects a bunch of pricks,
    6. and gives GOP victims a false sense of security while they're actually being screwed.

Most Libertarians like myself think we are screwed either way. We know that the left and right are controlled by the same people and that the two parties only exist to keep people separated so it is easier to control us. Together we stand divided we fall!!!!!

Is Romney really that stupid? When asked today about the hurricane headed for Tampa he said something like well if the airport is open cause we have to get there. If the airport is open? What about if the building is still standing or all the people in danger if the hurricane hits Tampa. What if they don't show up. Are they just supposed to fly over there and hope Romney is in charge of the hurricane too? This man is either programmed wrong or is completely clueless. Or both. If I thought the hurricane was going to arrive there I would think about cancelling or postponing it so that all the people involved including myself would be safe. And I love not really when I see Ryan having to read closely his plan. Watch his eyes. It doesn't sound like such a good plan when it is read word by word without the proper inflections. Even if Obama reads a teleprompter he know what his plan are. Apparently Aynr (Ryan) has no clue so he has to read them. Funny thing when asked instead of saying here read them he says I don't want to get wonky so we will tell you in January. Get wonky Ryan we can handle it. We do have brains regardless what you think you can pull over on people.

Sorry to have to inform you but the following will NOT be allowed to speak at the Miami, Florida GOP Convention...

    • Ron Paul (Who has delegates and did NOT suspend his GOP Primary campaign like the others)
    • George W. Bush (1 of only 2 former GOP presidents still alive)
    • George H.W. Bush (1 of only 2 former GOP presidents still alive)
    • Dick Cheney
    • Sarah Palin
    • Newt Gingrich
    • Donald Trump (although his hairpiece will be allowed to mumble)

Hope you are not too disappointed, but look at the bright side...

LOTS and LOTS of Retirees and Seniors will be standing outside Convention Hall protesting that little whipper-snapper Ryan who wants to take away their Social Security, Medicare and other earned benefits!

Oh, and God may make an appearance via his Hurricane Isaac, because he's really p-o'd at how the GOPs have been pandering to the Gays!

    Let's be honest people!

    • The real reason Chris Christie is the Keynote Speaker at the GOP Convention is because ...

    Snookie turned them down..

    And remember

This GOPera is all over when The Fat Christie sings!

This is also a "tribute" to Ron Paul's spiritual mentor, Ayn Rand, the Christ hating Patron Saint of Greed, also the spiritual mentor to Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney.

Ron Paul is a grotty little, whining professional pamphleteer, having spent thirty five years spreading his race baiting filth.

The GOP is a repulsive hate group and to think that it is one of the two main parties representing the people of the United States is a disgrace. They are a bunch of thoroughly corrupt, lying swine seeking to suppress the vote, which makes them traitors too.

I am so bitterly disappointed in Ron Paul for selling out his delegates simply to secure a place for his blowhard son, Rand, in the future of the Republican Party.

Thousands of idealistic young Ron Paul supporters gave their time, money, and voice for more than four years to promote a man who when push came to shove, sold himself to Romney and Fehrnstrom for pennies on the dollar.

So what does Rand get in return, Ron?

I don't belive they are "selling out". And Rand Paul is a future treasure to this country and will do wonderfull on his own merit. These Ron Paul supporters as with Romney's see the dire straits this country is in and are smart enough to make the right choice in November, I, myself agree with alot of Ron Pauls ideas but not enough to vote for him. I also see the real 2 choice's we have and cannot go for a pathalogical lieing race and class warfare president that occupies the white house now.

Rand Paul is working with the state of Kentucky to help make industrial hemp legal to grow. Kentucky has lost a lot of money in the tobacco industry and farmers need something to replace the loss.

America is the only industrialized nation to not grow hemp. We import hemp pulp from other countries. Hemp would actually thru cross pollination make marijuana less potent. Not only that but hemp is one of the most useful plants on the planet and it is insane for us to keep it illegal. Out of hemp: medicine, clothing, paper, bio-diesel, plastic, animal feed, cosmetics can be made. Also it is very good to help clean up soil and is used after nuclear power disasters to assist in clean up of the environment.

Henry Ford's first car burned diesel and the body was made with hemp fibers.

Simply because a politician expresses contempt for the war machine and promotes the legalization of pot does not make him 'the next coming'. George McGovern was way ahead of Ron Paul on those issues. It may, however, very well qualify him to become Mayor of the City of San Francisco, or perhaps even one day the Governor of the great state of Oregon, but never President of the United States. It is, in fact, because San Francisco or Oregon even exist that the movement will grow no larger. The overwhelming majority of people on the outside simply say that if you want to live like that, move to THAT city or to THAT state and leave me and mine alone. True libertarianism, no?

Beyond taking clear political advantage of the potent idealism and latent materialism of both peaceniks and potheads alike, Ron Paul's larger libertarian agenda is nothing more than the removal of fences from around the chicken coop. For a short while, the chickens are happy. Then what?

The fact of the matter is that chicken coops exist on a farm which itself exists within both an industry and a community. The extrapolations can go on much further, but at some point, the net result is that we populate this one world as a single race of human beings. Ron Paul would have us believe that we can be content to live out our existence in relative peace and harmony by simply denying ourselves participation IN that global community, while at the same time retaining the right to deny TO THOSE WE CHOOSE entree into the restaurants which we own or stores that we open INSIDE that community.

These issues aside, and the reason for my growing contempt for Mr. Paul, is less about philosophy and more about tactics. His demonstrated abeyance to the master manipulators of the Republican Party, which is to say abeyance to the 1% who CONTROL the Republican Party, simply in the hopes of securing for his son the support OF that Republican Party toward some small future political gain like legalized hemp production, is a slap in the face to the thousands of supporters whose efforts have PROVIDED Mr. Paul with the very ACCESS he now seeks to exploit on behalf of Rand.

Rather than shake the columns supporting the temple which his supporters have so carefully, calculatingly, and competently infiltrated, Mr. Paul simply accepts some floor space at the foot of the head table in the hopes of one day having his son offered an actual seat.

Rand Paul will NEVER be given a seat at that table. At best, he will be invited to deliver the meals, and in so doing, during that brief chance encounter with the powers that be, have their ear long enough to make a dessert recommendation.

Ron Paul, being from Texas, has been the RINGLEADER for FOSSIL FUEL(oil) and has no doubt earned millions & millions from the corrupt OIL & FINANCIAL corporate MONARCHY'S STOCK MARKET! He's probably ticked at exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH because exlax is claiming that "HE HAS AN ENERGY PACKAGE"! Of course, exlax doesn't, he's only a political puppet, NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS!

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Ron Paul does say something about exlax's thievery of the ENERGY PACKAGE! What bothers me is, HOW MANY POLITICIANS are in the OIL STOCK MARKET? It's time to EXPOSE THEM ALL!

There is NO WAY our JUSTICE DEP'T. should be ALLOWING this MONOPOLY over the 99% American People! There is SOMETHING VERY FISHY about why the Justice Dep't. is NOT TAKING ACTION, since FOSSIL FUELS are destroying our CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENT for the sake of the corrupt Republican OIL & FINANCIAL corporate MONARCHY! We should have been on NON-POLLUTANT ALTERNATE FUEL, such as Natural Gas and better yet MAGNETICALLY-DRIVEN ELECTRICAL ENERGY a long, long time ago!

Is UNCONTROLLED CAPITALISTIC GREED more important than our climate & endangered environment? I'm beginning to wonder where common sense over greed is NOT TAKING PLACE! Is the almighty dollar MORE IMPORTANT than life! You can't take it with you, so what the hell's going on? Is there NO ONE in politics that has the GUTS to TURN THE TIDE on FOSSIL FUELS????? I wonder?
