The Republican National Convention will pay tribute to Texas Rep. Ron Paul during the second night of its convention.
Romney campaign adviser Russ Schriefer told reporters on Friday that the Romney campaign had assented to requests by Paul supporters to air a "short" film paying tribute to the retiring Texas congressman, who's attracted a devoted following in his two bids for the GOP presidential nomination.
The film — along with a speaking slot Monday for the congressman's son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul — is a nod toward the influence of Ron Paul, whose supporters, convention organizers have worried, might stir a small commotion during the roll call vote to nominate Romney.

Schriefer confirmed that convention delegates would vote to formally nominate Romney for president on Monday; the presumptive Republican nominee would become the official Republican nominee on Thursday night, when he accepts the nomination. (At this point, Romney would be able to access and spend funds he has raised for use in the general election campaign.)
Top Talkers: The Cycle host joins the Morning Joe panel to talk about the upcoming speeches at the Republican National Convention and to explain why Mitt Romney "needs a moment where he looks presidential" to excite the base and have them rally around him. The panel also discusses the possibility of Romney receiving the nomination early.
Television networks have signaled that they will only broadcast three nights of coverage, raising the possibility that Monday's festivities — including a planned speech by Ann Romney — would be missed by a national audience. Schriefer wouldn't shoot down rumors that the Romney campaign might move Ann Romney's speech if the networks don't extend their coverage plans.
"I'm optimistic that the right thing will be done," he said.
Other features of the convention include plans to feature fellow members of Romney's Mormon church, and 15 Olympians — meant to highlight Romney's widely acclaimed tenure as head of the Salt Lake City Olympics. Three Olympians will speak, most prominently Mike Eruzione, the captain of the 1980 U.S. "Miracle on Ice" Olympic hockey team.
Organizers are pushing ahead with planning despite warnings of a major storm turning toward Tampa, the site of the convention. Schriefer boasted in particular of the modern backdrop onstage of speakers, which he described as a "Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired piece of architecture."

I guess its Ok to agree to disagree. Again....we need to stop spending soooo much money. Ryan knows the budget better than anyone in DC. Entitlement reform is needed. All taxes do is zap incentives from business and put it into an inefficient gov't . I am a supply side guy, but again I feel that tax reform is needed. I don't really recall seeing any concrete proposals for reform except Cains 999 which is a start. Not having to worry about Soviet aggression is a gift from Reagan. Costly ...of course but freedom is never free.
So was tripling the debt, you rarely hear the GOP whine about that though,or Dubya doubling it.
Yet somehow Obama only increasing it by 60% is a sign from God the Kenyan/Muslim/socialist is the son of the Devil.
Ryan voted for the $700 billion bank bailout, the biggest Medicare expansion in U.S. history, a massive highway bill that included the “Bridge to Nowhere” and other big-ticket priorities when George W. Bush was president — going to bat for a high-spending GOP agenda that the tea party base now looks on with regret.

Just standing near a libertarian doesn' tmake you one.
Avoid....if only millionairs and billionairs will vote for R/Ryan, there must be a lot of them as now we see the race a dead heat. Corporate welfare does suck..look at Solyndra. The US going to Afghan.was warranted.
Well, now I never said millionaire and so on would be the only ones voting. There is a reason for my name as the masses are filled with people like you that are just plain too ignorant to understand the big picture. The right wing is very wealthy and selling snake oil that rich people will create jobs if we let them pay a smaller percentage in taxes, which is unfair and totally immoral. The fact that the masses are buying the snake oil, means there is a lot of desperation and ignorant ideology that suggests that they will create jobs. It is nothing more than the wealthiest few to vote them in so they can take, take, take, and will leave the working class with nothing. There will be NO jobs, man. How hard is it to figure out that the corporations are leaving for good. And, no going to Afganistan was NOT warranted. There is no enemy! Those towers fell thanks to the Saudis, as we now know from relesed documents sealed by Bush. You are the reason for my name. I see which way you all are going, and I will be headed the other. Where you all are going is not where I am going. Have fun out there!
Thank you for what you said about the Saudis. All the hijackers from 9-11, except one were from Saudi Arabia as was Bin Laden. After 9-11, we should have cut off all relations with Saudi Arabia, closed our embassy there and theirs here. Cancel all Saudi visas , students, businessmen and all. And no immigration or work visas for ten years. Then go after Bin Laden covertly, which is the way he was found in the end anyway. All that death and destruction when it was all brought about by the environment in S.A.
WOW Did any of you Demarcates read this, we need to put a stop to Obama and the DNC now. DNC needs to re-think at what direction they want America to be.
It is troubling that the Democratic National Convention has decided to promote and lend its name and national political platform to the organizers of the “Jummah at the DNC”. The leaders of this event – Jibril Hough and Imam Siraj Wahhaj as advertised are no moderates. They are radicals. These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies.
A quick Google search by the DNC would have shown them that Hough and Wahhaj are leaders in the separatist American Islamist movement. While they may be able to get a few thousand Muslims to attend the event, they are NOT going to be mainstream Muslims. Most will likely come from Hough and Wahhaj’s radical networks that have long been entrenched in the Charlotte area. Make no mistake they are part of the Islamist movement
Are the Democrats completely crazy? They are going to give a prominent roll to a radical Muslim orginization? At the DNC? This is NOT a Muslim country yet. Are they going to let Christians have a role? What has happened to the Democratic Party? Don't they realize they are catering to a president that will most probably be gone in November? And even if he gets another term, do they really think Americans are going to stand for A Muslim takeover? People, if you have any doubt about your Representative or Senator being wholeheartedly for America and the American people, for all of our sakes, VOTE THEM OUT!! I'm sorry but I can't stand behind the Democratic Party anymore. They've gone nuts. They are on any anti-American's side. And turning their backs on those of us whose families have lived here for generations and fought and sometimes died for our country.
Where exactly would you expect us to read it? I didn't see a quote or a source or a link.
The GOP theme song will be "Send in the Clowns".
Yea Biden will be in the area....good sugestion..
meet: Biden is not GOP.....or is that too difficult for you to understand?
DUHHHHH I know hes not but hes the head clown of politics..
meet: So you made a lame attempt at being funny...you need better jokes if you want to be in the GOP circus.
What is "hes".....is that suppose to be he is????
No sense of humor, Dragon?
William...respectfully as I've said....our president needs to take ownership to the debt problem and move forward. Republicans are not blameless in running up the debt, however...we need to move forward. Ideas please...not " Bush did it"
hanko: Congress decides the spending.....they vote for it....so both Repubs and Dems in Congress are at fault for the debt and need to take some reponsibility.
BTW:
Ryan voted for the $700 billion bank bailout, the biggest Medicare expansion in U.S. history, a massive highway bill that included the “Bridge to Nowhere” and other big-ticket priorities when George W. Well now. I believe some of our best years were when Clinton was in office. I wonder why Bush inherited a SURPLUS! Oh, it might be the fact that America was not fighting wars! It is amazing how much America prospers when we are not out insitgating never-ending wars with never ending enemies. How bout that, lol. Morons.
It is a free Country and Ron Paul can do what he wants.
^ Sour grapes from a sore loser.
GOP just dissed Paul. We'll give you an ego stroke, and you'll sit down and shut up grandpa, ya dig?
Paul says....o,o, ok. LOL. What a phony this guy always was and always will be.
@sbstarlite & seekingsanity: unlike you jokers I'm anti-war and pro personal liberty since I was in 11th grade - I'm 27 now. I think Obama and Bush deserve to share a cell in prison but you liberal hypocrites sure are making a lot of excuses for Obomb-ya.
Just where do you get the idea i am pro war? I don't defend either president only counter your presumption that bush had nothing to do with the situation. This is not a matter of making excuses for obama as you suggest. It is a matter of clarification. War should not be a liberal/conservative issue.
I will not hold your young age against you for you do not remember viet nam and the resentment that war created for all america. I do....and curse the day bush brought this senseless loss of life upon us again.
I think your earlier naive comment about ending the war with a stroke of a pen has been responded to but you might take a second look at those words before casting your blame on the person who inherited this ongoing tragedy.
Oh terrific, I can hardly wait ! </ sarcasm. Ron Paul gets his "so what" moment... yawn.
Fitting for GOP and their geriatric ward population, the Soupy Sales of politics who has not done a thing except compete with Ralph Nader for 40 years and produce a son wackier than himself that could only get elected in "KKKantucky"...at least Nader did some great things for the country.
At least they are not like the Democratic Party and having Jummah at the DNC , catering to radical Islamists.
Republican Convention will feature Pander to Ron Paul.
You mean "Pander to Paul" night. We don't like him but we need his support.
American First, To answer your question on why a libertarian might be opposed to abortion. I'm not for government telling me what to do or who to marry or what goes on in my body.. But at some point, even you must believe that the growing infant is now a viable child. Let's say, 10 minutes before birth even. So ten minutes before birth, doesn't the yet unborn child have rights under the constitution? Yes, the Mother has rights too, but her rights can't trump that baby's right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness - can they? Or is it OK to kill babies right up to the second of actual birth? People of good faith (not religious faith exclusively) differ on when "personhood" occurs. I'm cool with the "viability" argument, even though its ambiguous. Some say sooner - I disagree.
But here's the crux. If that baby is at some point prior to actual birth - an american citizen, having been concieved by heinous means is neither that baby's fault nor an acceptable cause to deny him/her their right to life, libery, or pursit of happiness.
Ron Paul and I disagree on when personhood may begin, but saying that Mom's rights do not negate baby's rights is perfectly consistent with Libertarianism
You're logic is astounding. How is a person a person even before they are conceived or even before hasving sex. That's kind like string theory isn't it? If I can imagine it, it's got to be true.
Wake up and smell the coffee, you're in dreamland.
Well said.
Willard "saved" the Olympics by registering as a lobbyist and obtaining a $1.3 billion bailout from Congress that John McCain called; “an incredible pork-barrel project for Salt Lake City and its environs”
Most Paul supporters can't stand Romney and the RNC will appease his supporter on order to sucker / wrangle them into supporting and voting for their hand-picked candidate.
I still believe we missed an opportunity that will NOT present itself again for a very, very long time...Ron Paul.
I survive on government programs and a meager return on my life's investment into my Social Security Trust Fund, so I would definitely suffer from several of his policies, but I'm also smart enough to know that in the long run ALL my fellow Americans would have benefited.
Breaking News: GOP platform set to music; Romney to sing policies at convention!!
Tribute scheduled for the 2nd night of the convention. Hmmm...do you think some RNC operatives are hoping the hurricane hits Tampa that day?
Spanky, I think these name calling liberals only know how to find Media Matters, MSNBC, Obama's website, Huffington, and all the other dirt suppliers and liars! When they occasionly bring up some intelligent point, it's always from the Democrat talking points. Two US government employees shot near Mexico City! Do you suppose the guns that Holder lost in Mexico with Fast & Furious claimed some more victims? Even , if not, Fast & Furious was another incompetent action by Holder, who continues to prosecute conservatives and doesn't prosecute Goldmen-Sachs and the the group of thugs that were preventing voting in Pennsylvania, among other blunders!
Ummm, your post here makes no sense. For instance, I have yet to hear a liberal media outlet refer to Romney as scum- please provide if you have. I have just witnessed Dumb Fux news refer to the President as a "scumbag." Your efforts to attempt to show that the liberals are the ones who have no respect, defaced what the seat of president means, and spill propaganda and lies as news is useless. Most people smell your stink from here. Your mouth spews crap and it stinks. I am a true moderate and patriot and believe that ALL should respect the President, even if we do not agree, as I do not. So, please get some intelligence and rejoin the debate when you have solutions. Mine are redical, but at this point, radical is what is needed. Tear it all down and rebuild it. And, if all you righties want your jobs in China, Brazil, and India, then go with your corporate sponsors and have a safe flight, Commrades!
So he will sing! 26,000 unemployed because of Obama have been singing the blues for months. Of course, Obama is taking care of them with unemployment insurance evtended and extended and food stamps making them government dependent!
Obama hasn't meet with his cabinet in months and will not meet with Congressional leaders to try to negotiate extending the Bush Tax Cuts. Playing basketball with the stars, golfing and smoozing with Hollywood and others for fund raising! This, instead of trying to solve the nation's problems! Oh, that's right Obama doesn't have a clue about the economy! Maybe he could chat with his buddy CEO of GE who he tauted as a great American employer. Funny thing, 170,000 of 300,000 GE employees work overseas!
He is just too brilliant to be bothered with mundane people and everyday affairs. Ask him.
Who cares! Do you really think it will impact the election? They ALL suck!
Just start referring to the righties as Commrades. After all, they find it acceptable to be communist now and to send our jobs over there. Vote for Romney- He has been putting China to work for years.
Hypocrites- you cannot bitch about socialism from our current President if you are fine with sending our jobs to freakin China! WTF is wrong with you?
You do know that Obama has given a contract to China to repair our infrastructure? How's that for a kick in the teeth to our contractors and construction workers? "No bread? Let them eat cake."
I'm still voting for Ron Paul. F*** democrats and f*** republicans. I'm ready to try something new. F*** liberals and f*** conservatives. I'm tired of the petty back and forth that doesn't move us forward. Paul apparently realized that the media-brainwashed masses think there are only two options, and that if he is to have any part of the action, he has to wear the costume of one of the TWO parties. Sad state we're in when the media controls our thoughts. It's difficult to be a critical thinker when a brain is force fed the "news" the major media outlets produce. Best of luck to all.
I agree Duditz- However, Migram proved in his experiment that the masses are easily manipulated by anyone who poses as an "authority." In fact, and this should scare ya, that 65% of humans are capable of doing heinous things to another human being if it is claimed "for their best interest." This is how Nazi Germany rose to power. Authorities said that birth defects, mental illness, people with disabilities has dirtied the gene pool and therefore, the Master race. Media has become an "authority" and pulls one half the masses one way, the other half the other. People will give coporations power and less tax Percentage because someone says it will give them job sometime down the road. And, this happens even in front of their eyes in which the corporations are leaving this country and moving to new places to ruin and exploit. Milgram's experiment was even redid as entertainment by Eli Roth recently, and to no surprise, 65% are still capable of atrocious things if someone tells them that it is in their best interest. Not hard to understand how the second Nazi regime is rising here in America, now is it.
Yes. Too bad most people don't have the clarity and strength of mind to know and understand those basic truths.
Yes it is too bad! But, as a Bible believer, I see that the "shroud has been pulled over their eyes." Trivial little politics as horrible things await. So funny, the lil lemmings are.
A thank you to Romney,
Thank you Romney for the lovely video to tribute Ron Paul. We loved today how you told the credentials committee to vote against the Maine delegation and Lousiana to be seated. You are a crook who should be in jail for rigging the vote on Monday. Ron Paul people can handle a loss if done fairly. You not seating the delegation has Governor Lepage of Maine now not coming to the convention for your betrayal to his state. You believe the risk that a Ron Paul speech would be a danger to the GOP. Yes it is now over since you just lost 5 to 10 million votes today.
Today will be a historic day. This is the official day that Romney officially lost the election. The Paul people have decided to throw there weight behind Gary Johnson or Obama. The Race will look close up to the day of the election. It will be a mirage. Romney will easily lost nationwide by 10 points. Those 10 points will be the Ron Paul people. We will be going to vote. We will not sit at home.
The hurricane alert didn't come until Joe Gaff Biden announced he was going to Tampa. Obama breathed a sigh of relief, The gaff king would not be gaffing as much! Maybe he trying to infiltrate the convention to find out why the truth really works. Don't worry, convention goers, he can't keep his mouth from running and quickly will be escorted out and dropped by the nearest strip club! I know.. he will help the city chain everything down
