Bad news for everyone again
The mixed data added to the market uncertainty on whether the Federal Reserve will soon act in support of the economy.
I will bet that we close below 13,000 again, adding more to the debt. Unemployment is up and we are still contemplating hiring President Obama and his Administration again. You fooled me once, but not again.

Poll questions..."Are you satisfied with how the President is handling the economy?"...about 60% say 'no'. "Are you satisfied with the President's effort to create jobs?"...about 60% say "no". "Is your life better than it was four years ago?"....about 60% say "no". And "are you satisfied with how the President is dealing with the national debt?"...about 60% say "no".
"Who will you vote for in the November election?"....about half say "Mr. Obama".

Even more confusing...who are these 'about 40%' who actually feel that the President is doing a good job handling the economy and creating jobs and with the debt that has been accumulating ???
Do they read a newspaper or burn a single brain cell trying to understand what's on the news ??? Or do those things interfere with watching some goofball reality TV show or spending that single brain cell tweeting and twittering ???
Tony, those questions don't delve further into why people feel that way. Most thinking people know that it has been the GOP that has stalled the economy in order to try to get back into the White House and control congress.
They admitted it back in 2009 when they said "our number one goal is to make Obama a one term president".
How can you blame the president for the current state of our economy when the GOP has not let him implement his plans. Even the bills that have passed have been so completely bastardized by the GOP that they are barely recognizable as the original bill put forth.
It is unprecedented that an entire party would vote against provisions that for more than 30 years has been promoted by their own party. The GOP ran on jobs jobs jobs in 2010 and since then have only concentrated on personhood bills, abortion bills, and let's not forget 33 votes to repeal the healthcare law.
Thinking people know that the largest portion of the debt was created by Reagan, Bush and Bush and that a large part of the portion that has occurred under President Obama is actually interest on that debt as well as programs implemented by the previous administration (Medicare Part D, Tax Cuts and 2 unfunded wars).
GW Bush is the first national leader in the history of this planet to cut taxes during a time of war. But somehow that was ok to the GOP and still to this day they fight for those tax cuts. Screaming we have to cut the social safety nets so we can continue to war. Mighty Christian of them, not exactly what Jesus preached.
The GOP say tax cuts create jobs, aren't the past 30 years proof enough that they do not? If business taxes were zero, do you think any business would hire even though there was no consumer for their product? Of course not, which is exactly why business and top bracket tax cuts do not create jobs. Tax cuts for the middle class do create jobs. When the middle and the poor have more money in their pockets they spend it, thus stimulating the economy. Demand not supply stimulates the economy.
You ask about reading the newspaper--unfortunately true journalism, I think is dead. Just like every other area of our lives it comes down to the almighty dollar. Newspapers and tv news are all about money. There are no more Edward R Murrows or even Walter Cronkites---it's not about truth it's about ratings.
That's about the 5000th time I've seen someone bring up Mitch McConnell's "one term president"...good Lord should we take a look at every statement the President made three and half years ago and just keep dwelling on it.
I'm glad the "GOP hasn't let him implement his plans"...the big plan he did force thru is already turning into a huge mess. It's projected costs have already tripled in the simplest two years and just this week health insurance companies are submitting for double-digit rate increases for the coming year and every indication is that the double-digit increases will keep coming at us. Why would anyone think the President's other plans should be implemented. He doesn't care what they will end up costing us as long as he gets them passed.
You hit the GOP on "jobs, jobs, jobs" since the 2010 election, but the unemployment rate has fallen about 2% since those elections...I suppose that's due to plans the President implemented that nobody knew about. And how about the bills submitted by the House that Harry Reid simply tossed into the trash, without review. Harry Reid ??? That's supposed to be the 'Senate Majority Leader' ??? The man is a loon...he publicly accuses Romney for a week of not paying 10 years' worth of income taxes and says he has proof, yet when Romney tells himto "put up or shut up" he basically disapperas from the face of the Earth like the Shadow. That's the Senate's "Leader"??? Good heavens, what a mess.
Speaking of "leadership"...that may be my biggest issue with this president...he is not a leader, he is a simple critic of everything in world he doesn't believe in. If he had been the captain of the Titanic...nobody would have made it off the boat.
"Likability" polls may be inaccurate anyway because many Americans who have disdain for Obama are polite and have respect for the Presidency and will put a civil face on things for sake of the Nations image worldwide. Will they vote accordingly? Hardly. "Likability" is over-hyped.
The jobs outlook is not good, and it is already horrible. 50% of black male youth are now unemployed, worse of any group, and that is a major concern. U6 unemployment is leveled out since the 2010 midterms, but still double what is was in 2006 when Democrats first gained both houses of congress. U6 sailed right up to 16.9% under Democratic control.
Unemployment and underemployment are the bottom line issues of the coming election.
Romney was never seriously challenged in the primary debates. When he had the opportunity to attack him on "Obomey-care" Pawlenty waffled. Rick Perry's the only one who made any kind of effort, but he stumbled all over his words (not being much of a debater himself).
There is a simple explanation for why Romney scores higher on "who would handle the economy better?" Recovery from the financial crisis of 2008 has been difficult, President Obama is the incumbent, Romney is the challenger, hence Romney "must have" better ideas for improving the economy.
It's pretty flimsy thinking, in my opinion, and most people will recognize the foolishness of electing Romney on the basis of "he'll be different," when they get a load of his policies: cutting taxes for the uber rich, rolling back regulations, and energy policies designed to enrich the oil companies at the expense of our planet's health. If you like drought, wildfires and extreme weather patterns, you'll love Romney.
The Dow had dropped to a low of near 6500 when Obama passed his stimulus in 2009. Now it's double that at near 13,000. Apparently, the business community and investor class has had its confidence in our economy restored.

And regarding the stock market, it's the height of irony when the democrats claim that since the market is doing better, it means Obama's doing a great job.

I don't know why you voted for Barack Obama, Concerned, but I didn't vote for him just because the Republicans had put us into a giant hole.
I chose Barack Obama, during the Democratic primary, because I saw he was uncommonly gifted. I wanted to see what it would be like to have a President I could admire, for a change.
I am very happy with President Obama, because basically, he's done a better job than evenI could have anticipated. Two of America's biggest enemies are dead, and they were done in pretty cheaply. The Obama administration has a brilliant record on foreign policy. The economy will improve in Obama's second term, and it certainly won't under Romney/Ryan, whose plans are to shift more wealth to the top 1%, while seniors pay more for their healthcare.
Sorry Amy...Mr. Obama's foreign policy has been anything but "brilliant"...do you see what has been going on on the other side of the planet ??? It is not good. Andyes... two foreign despots are dead and their countries are in worse shape than when they were alive. Iran is a powderkeg. Israel is on edge. Our soldiers are dying just as quickly even though the "gifted" Mr. Obama says those wars are over...it's time to "turn the page" as he lectured us.

We are being warned right now that a second dip in the recession is very possible. Jobs are not showing up. The national debt is growing by the day. And instead of speaking about what he will do on those issues, Mr. Obama seems more concerned about his opponent's tax bill, a losing green energy thrust, and this ficticious "war on women" that's now goosed up because one numbskull comgressman said something stupid about rape..and immediately apologised for his words.

Joe Biden does not need to appologize to anyone. The audience that you are offended for was not offended, why are you? They applauded what he said. Perhaps because they heard what he said in its entirety rather than the sound bite that has you going. VP Biden was continuing the analogy that the GOP used regarding unshackling wall street. He said they're going to unchain wall street and put you'all back in chains.
You say we are being warned about a double dip recession. Why do you think that is? Austerity measures that the GOP are forcing causes that. Look at Europe, look at Greece, the same things that they tried that led to their double dip recession are what the GOP is pushing here. Then look at Iceland and what they did differently and how their economy has rebounded. (Hint: They jailed the bankers and bailed out the people) Why should we copy a strategy that we have seen fail? Do you think because it is the USA it will turn out differently?

Akin did not apologize he stated that he used the wrong words--he did not say I am sorry I lied, or I was misinformed-and given his bill history in congress, I believe that exactly what he thinks. And Ryan has co-authored bills about that specific thing with him which is what makes it pertinent to the election.

Harley Chic, if you compare 2012 polls to 2008, you'll see that these candidates are in the exact same position - virtually tied on Aug 24. McCain got a nice bump following the 2008 Republican convention, then he went down hill all the way to the election.
It's not to say the 2012 race will track the same, but I wouldn't get too excited (one way or the other) about movement in a single poll - look at the averages Real Clear Politics presents if you want reliable data.

Our President is chosen by the Electoral college, not the popular vote. Look at the state by state polls to see the real race for the Presidency. 9 states will decide it.
Romney lies again. He gave 10% of his income to his church. It's no secret. He was happy to volunteer this info in an interview he did which unfortunately for him is now being played on TV. His 2010 tax return also said he gave 10%.

@TONY...It was more than just 1 GOP Senator who said thier #1 goal is to insure that this President was a 1 term President including the Majority leader who went on record and said it...why? when so many americans were suffering why would they do that to you and me...they have done everything but help the american people and yet the GOP stands before you and say it's the Presidents failed policies...I would rather them to be honestg and say our plan is in place...I will vote GOP if the are honest... but they won't and they aren't honest...they will tell how it's the policies not the stall mate between parties...I won't say the other reason though we all know it.
