Obama: Hoop Dreams

“President Obama swished and dished in the city Wednesday to net some serious dough at a trifecta of basketball-themed fund-raisers — but a gimpy knee was expected to keep him from playing above the rim,” the New York Daily News writes. “Obama’s latest trip to the political ATM that is the Big Apple featured cash grabs — more like cash dunks — with NBA stars and a $20,000-per-person dinner co-hosted by the one-and-only Michael Jordan. The ‘Obama Classic,’ as the $3 million night at Lincoln Center was dubbed, included a $250 per-fan autograph signing and a $5,000-per-baller skills camp."

“A veteran Wall Street executive who performed an independent review that exonerated the Obama administration’s program of loans to energy companies contributed $52,500 to re-elect President Barack Obama in the months since completing his work, according to an Associated Press review of campaign records. The executive defended the integrity of his conclusions and said he decided to donate to Obama after his work was finished,” AP writes.

Bill Clinton favorability scores in the NBC/WSJ poll are very high, higher than Obama, Biden, Romney, Ryan, etc. And today the Obama campaign is out with an ad with a full-throated endorsement by Clinton of Obama’s economic philosophy.

USA Today: “The commercial is the latest attempt by Obama to associate himself with a popular president who enjoyed a good economy on his watch. Entitled ‘clear choice,’ the new commercial is airing in New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada."

USA Today looks at how the Obama campaign is trying to make the most of the Akin controversy.

Reuters does a similar story.

“The Congressional Budget Office made it official today, projecting a $1 trillion-plus budget deficit for the fourth straight year,” USA Today writes. “The CBO said this year's red ink will total $1.1 trillion for fiscal year 2012, which ends Sept. 30. Republicans quickly jumped on the new deficit projection, blaming President Obama while promoting GOP candidate Mitt Romney.”

The New York Daily News: “The nation’s top military official scolded a group of veterans for criticizing President Obama in a new online documentary, saying in an interview that he is ‘disappointed’ by their partisan comments.”

USA Today: “Israel is unlikely to provide much if any advance notice to the United States if it attacks Iran's nuclear facilities, Middle East experts say. … In the past, Israel has given the Americans ‘very general notice,’ said Yoram Peri, director of the Israel studies program at the University of Maryland. ‘They would never talk in advance.’ For example, Israel unilaterally attacked nuclear facilities in Iraq in 1981 and Syria in 2007 and didn't give the United States advance warning.”

More "fluffy" articles for Obama ..... Where is the BUDGET Mr. President ? Another projected loss of $1.1 trillion (likely, a lot more) and our country STILL has no budget during his entire administration !

Put down the basketballs...do some real work for a change and layout a financial plan for our country's future !

Jim it is not the presidents job to create a budget, it is the job of congress. And since the house republicans keep passing bills that they know will never do anything in the senate--complain to them.

Andie, it is the Presidents job to PRESENT a budget .... a realistic budget proposal. Obama's proposals have garnered NO SUPPORT .... even from within his own Democratic Party !

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives HAS passed budgets as REQUIRED BY LAW !! Obama's henchman Harry Reid has totally blocked them in the Senate .... and Obama seems to be quite okay with that. That is not leadership and that is not obeying the laws requiring a budget.

That is obstructing progress and blaming the other party .... something the Dems have perfected.

You do realize this budget talking point (lie) and trying to focus on the economy isn't working Jim. That's why Willard/Paul have abandon them and started relying totally on lies and making things up instead. Every time Willard or Paul bring a subject up they want to debate, President Obama slaps them down in a matter of hours. So all that leaves them with is lies, something for you lemmings.

JIM you poor poor " misinformed" American. The House is responsible for the "budget" of the PEOPLE...the "formality" of the Executive branch..is just that....layout the "executives" Idea's....For some reason...the "Congress" has made it seem..that the President sets the budget...Constitutionally..He/She..can't....as a matter of FACT...and I realize..these days.."FACTS" are of no help...so let me put it plain....The Executive..lets say.. EVEN Under the Party formerly known as "Republican"'s GOD...President Reagan..had NO control over the budget..BUT..to his credit...he controlled his party as head of the party..so he could "suggest" a budget....sooooooo....they would take that "suggestion" Pick out what they liked..and scrap..what they didn't....BOTTOM LINE!!! The Executive can't pass a budget. They simply suggest what they want...and the HOUSE passes the budget....so..hope I helped you all in understanding Government....so sad actually..that I had too.. BTW..like the Tax papers deal now with Gov. Romney....the Executive Branch doesn't HAVE to propose a budget plan at ALL..as Per "constitution"...Its simply done, because some President decided it would be a good idea...sort of like 12 yrs of Tax papers from Fipp Romney's Dad. For God's sake people...I learned this crap back in 12th grade government. I'm 47 now.

Guess we won't be seeing curious georgie and redneck dickie on any commercials for mittens, now will we? haha, that would be quite the hoot. Bet the neocons are are not even considering that association and for good reason - georgie is in a close tie with tricky dick to be the worst president in my lifetime of 59 years. Perhaps we should create a few commercials with some of georgie's public gaffs for mitt - and that folks would be so much fun and a real description of mitt.

Joe Biden has a LOCK on the gaffes doesn't know what state he is in, doesn't know what century it is, called Ryan the "Governor" from Wisconsin ..... and then there is the ultimate RACIST appeal ....."they gonna' put ya'll back in chains".

But maybe Joe can teach Obama how to pronounce "corpsman" ... not "corpse man".

    Your desperation is enormous Jim.

jim, it's funny because most of the people calling VP Biden racist are white people who weren't even there to ehar what he said. It seems that the African America people that were there had no problem with what he said. The crowd applauded his statements. Perhaps that is because the people there actually bothered to listen to him and heard the full context rather than running with right wing talking points.

As I'm sure has been pointed out to you before, Biden was continuing the analogy that the republicans used when they said they wanted to unshackle wall street. He said they want to unchain wall street and put you'all back in chains.

You see it has nothing to do with slavery of black people, just the greed of the financial markets (banks and wall street).

If they remove the "shackles" on wall street-what will stop them from crashing the economy AGAIN? What will stop them from taking huge risks and losing and then saying we are too big to fail and need a bailout (from us the taxpayers) while still taking huge bonuses for the CEO's?

Privatizing profits and socializing losses, is that what conservatives call fiscal responsibility? I thought conservatives were against socialism, if that is so you should hate that the banks and others have done that.

You should hate Romney because Bain has done that numerous times. When they suck a company dry, fill their pockets (with millions--Bain itself never loses) and leave the company pension fund empty-- it is the government (our tax dollars) that make those pensions whole again.

The only sport Romney likes is the new one he wants to start and be its commissioner - NASCAR Dog strapped on roof of car Series!!! Ryan will be his first driver losing by a Dog Nose in every race.

Bill, you guys keep harping on Romney's dog, and some are harping on Obama's eating a dog.

My question to you is, why do you resent Mitt for packing his lunch?

Romney will be having America cook and eat their dogs to survive, in fact I heard he and Ryan like to Wok your Dogs every night.
