Obama talks hoops in NYC, dunks Rep. Todd Akin

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Raising money among NBA players – who are no strangers to trash talk -- President Barack Obama took some shots at Republican Congressman Todd Akin, whose controversial remarks on rape Obama said were indicative of the Republican Party’s position as a whole.

Speaking at a $20,000-per-person dinner set up on the stage of Alice Tully Hall, Obama noted that the attendees, which included Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Carmelo Anthony, “have been paying attention to the commentary of the senator from Missouri, Mr. Akin.”

“The interesting thing here is that this is an individual who sits on the House committee on science and technology but somehow missed science class,” Obama said as his audience laughed.

“But it’s representative of a desire to go backwards instead of forwards. And fights that we thought were settled 20, 30 years ago,” he continued, linking Akin to a political party whose mainstream members, including Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, have disowned him.

Besides a few sharp political jabs, Obama tailored his speech to his hoops-loving crowd, likening this election, in which the candidates are neck-and-neck, to a close game.

“I can't resist a basketball analogy,” Obama said. “We are in the fourth quarter, we're up by a few points but the other side is coming strong and they play a little dirty,” he said as the crowd laughed.

“We’ve got a few folks on our team in foul trouble. We’ve got a couple of injuries and I believe they’ve got one last run in them,” he continued, describing what he thought of his opponent Mitt Romney’s campaign.

Obama also suggested he was taking some advice from Jordan, who introduced the president at the event.

“Michael's competitiveness is legendary. And nobody knows better than Michael that if you’ve got a little bit of a lead and there’s about seven minutes to go, that’s when you put ’em away,” Obama said.

“You don't let up! That's how the Bulls won six,” he said, alluding to the number of championships the Chicago Bulls won in eight years – which, incidentally, is how long Obama hopes to be in office by 2016.The basketball-themed fundraising continued Wednesday night as Obama sped five blocks to the Jazz at Lincoln Center complex, where he hosted the “Obama Classic” shoot-around.

How about Romney making 75 million on dead babies with his aborted fetus disposal company

Please tell us everything those companies do?

I'm sure every day Romney got e-mails informing him of what each bag of Medical waste contained?

Of course medical waste could be anything from used syringes, bandages, castes, gloves, etc. so of course Romney personally knew everything that company was disposing right?

When you go buy a car do you ask if any of the parts where made using child labor in China?

I guess if he had invested in a tree pruning company Romney would be responsible for the destruction of the Environment correct?

More outright lies as Obama continues to disgrace the Office of the President. Although I'm not a Republican, I know Akin's comments were not indicative of Republicans in general. At this point, our President has lost all accountability regarding any statement he makes. I'm ashamed that I voted for Obama hoping he would bring this country together and instead he has split us down lines of race and class like no President in recent history. I wonder if his two girls actually believe the outright lies he continues to spout, or does he explain to them that he must lie in order to keep his job?

We can fairly well conclude that he knew Stericycle was incinerating aborted fetuses since the company's prospectus listed it as a contract vendor to Planned Parenthood. Now Romney is not the brightest bulb on the string but it is reasonable to believe that he knew PP performed abortions and relied on its bio-hazard disposal contractor to dispose of them. As is common among most capitalists, all of their morality and alleged Christian principles fly out the window if there is a buck to be made. Remember, they can always seek "forgiveness" after the bank deposit is made.

The Liberal, Chicago thug, Saul Alinisky (Rules for Radicals) playbook..... talk about anything, I mean anything but the unemployment rate, economy, high gas / energy prices, high food prices, Obama's 5.2 TRILLION DOLLAR increase to our national debt, the ignoring of our laws / Constitution, no jobs council meeting, 1 TRILLION dollar / yr. annual deficits for 4 years straight, etc, etc. And Obama's answer is "we got it right", "let's move forward".... only a delusional fool can really believe that is the best course.

Can't wait until Romney / Ryan win and begin to correct the sinking ship......... Gonna be fun firing Obama and Biden in November at the polls ....... two people that deserve to be fired!!!!

GT...Sorry, but with all the problems our nation is facing, women's reproductive rights is a side issue.

I don't think so, more than anything else, it is women's issues that divide this country. We all know medicare, health care, military funding, taxation and a host of other issues are being fought over and there are many ways to fix and fund each one of them, but it appears that there is a vast no-mans land between the "choice" and "right-to-life" sides.
And, the republicans, or I should say the Right-to Life tent of the Republican party has been making great strides with this issue since they regrouped after the Obama victory in 2008. Now lead by Atkins and Ryan they have person-hood waiting in the wings for a Republican sweep this time around. If they were to get this stuff through, not only would women be again seeking back alley abortions, but the IUD and hormonal birth control would become illegal, and males, both liberal and conservative would be forced to use condoms, or get in sync with their wives or girlfriends rhythm, or support a lot more unwanted kids. As I've said before, the attempt to saddle the American Experience with "person-hood" is a really bad idea and reminiscent of the prohibition movement and all its repercussions.

Between 2010 and 2011 there have been almost 2000 bills submitted in the states to limit women's reproductive rights. This number is very telling as to the true agenda of the Republican party. To most of us women, this is not a side issue.

He didn't make money on "dead babies"...he made money on medical waste. What do you want done with aborted or miscarried fetuses, have a fricken funeral? Also, it was all medical waste not just zygots, embryos and fetuses.

    #1.23 - Thu Aug 23, 2012 3:18 PM EDT

What do you want done with aborted or miscarried fetuses, have a fricken funeral?

Just give them all to Republican Rick Santorum so that he can hug, sleep with and force his children to kiss it.

My mother had a miscarriage in Idaho in the late '80's. Because of the fanatical right wing State laws, she had to have a burial for it. We found a dress for it at Toys R Us. It looked like an embryo (the hospital blessed us with a portrait...she was only 4 months along) and having to go through that process on top of having the miscarriage was absolutely devastating for my Mom. So, yeah - The teabaggers will force you to have a funeral.

Your stupid joke is about as uneducated as your defense of Romney, shep. I don't know if the Idaho laws have changed, but you can guarantee the teabaggers desire nothing more than to take America back much further than the Idaho of the '80s.

I can only hope that, in the future, you educate yourself before sounding off like a total jerk. As long as you mix an abortion up with some syringes and other body parts, it's okee-dokee in bagger land? Is someone paying you to be that hypocritical?

      #1.24 - Thu Aug 23, 2012 7:00 PM EDT

What joke? Your mother is who I was talking about.....why should anyone have to go through that?

medical waste is made up of all discarded debris whether it be a needle or an appendix. Your post is confusing...do you want funerals or not want funerals. FYI: I think Santorum is a complete idiot.

Typical Obama response. Avoid the issues at all cost by talking about things that absolutely have no importance to the future of our country.

Sadly, you probably really believe that comment. You are just another of a large mass of Romney supporters who are willing to elect a president who cares little or nothing about the rights of Americans on the hope that he can improve the economy.

The entire Republican "plan" (plan is in quotes because there really is no plan) is based on the absurd notion that lining the pockets of the rich will cause them to hire lots of employees. Nonsense. No one hires an employee just because they have money. If that were true unemployment would have already fallen by a substantial percentage because corporations have greater earnings and are holding more cash than at any time in human history. WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

People hire employees because they have a job that needs doing and that job is expected to make the employer some money. Anyone who hires anyone besides a family member just because they have some extra cash is a fool.

Rights are important. Women's rights are being denied by fools like Todd Aiken who use fake science to justify a draconian position on reproductive rights. They would force a 13-year old girl who was raped by her uncle to bear the child because they are self-righteous, medieval thinking luddites who believe that their fringe beliefs should be everyone's beliefs.

The Republicans will not improve the economy but they will dramatically decrease the quality of life for millions of Americans.

Funny how conservatives consider gun rights a main issue but women's rights a "side issue."

Smitty--you asked bucsdad why all the hate?

Simple answer is -- since Obama won the election it is all the REP/TPers have! The hate, bigotry, vitriolic language and fear tactics are the only ways that they can appeal to the 26% of the voting public. The other 25% that they need to win in Nov -- have been lost due to the thousands of bills that have been introduced and voted on to bring this country back to the 30 and 40's. You know -- when women and minorities really didnt have any worth.

They want the voters to believe them when they say -- its not my plan -- I wont vote that way. WELL - we all heard about the millions of jobs we were going to see when the REP/TPers won in 2010. See where that got us. 1000's of bills against women and minorities -- CRICKETS in the jobs department.

Yes, because Romney and Ryan are FARRR less likely to lie at a press conference or any public speaking event, where they are forced to improvise and make up answers on the spot. Give me one reason why I should listen to EITHER of them as opposed to simply listening to the criticisms of both sides and doing my own independent research to determine who between them garners the most distrust (Here's a hint: It's Romney).

Earlier, you make the argument that just because Sen. Harry Reid says Romney must be hiding something in his tax returns, doesn't mean it should be enough to cause people to believe he is. That we should instead wait for proof of this deception to be provided, as opposed to simply taking Harry Reid at his word when he says that Romney is hiding something. But by saying that THAT is the logical response to the situation, you are really implying that we should do is believe Romney instead when he says he isn't hiding anything. That he won't release his tax returns simply because he has no reason to show them to us. You really think that subscribing to that belief makes you a "fair-minded, intelligent American capable of rational thought"? If so, we disagree on the standards for that title.

The lesson that we all need to learn hear is the value of inference. It's a quality the media loves to play on, in order to dupe the minds of most who consume it. Our responsibility as people is to absorb the information they give us, distill it, and infer the central message for what we believe it is. For example, Romney is extremely dismissive of all suggestions to release his returns and incredibly flustered whenever he is questioned about it. These are classical symptoms of a person who clearly has something to hide. We can infer that because we see these symptoms arise mostly when he is questioned about something he would have a reason to lie about, that chances are, he is lying. It doesn't make us unintelligent, or irrational, to infer things based on the information we're presented with. Even when it's being churned out by the "Obama Propaganda Machine", it can't be automatically assumed that everything they're saying must be a lie simply because they have an interest in someone's defeat. We can look at RomRyan's record of voting and determine what it is they support, and we can look at their actions to determine their beliefs. For all intents and purposes it appears they don't give a @!$%# about Women's Rights, the environment, the Middle-Class, or Stem Cell Research. That means there is literally nothing they can do to win my vote, unless they promised to kill themselves immediately after being elected and gave the position to Obama. That, that would win my vote...but, they'd likely lie about that too, and I'd still end up cheated.

          Yosolo and Gundamwfan,

Harry Reid never said Romney cheated on his taxes---NEVER SAID THAT!! What he said was he was told that Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years. There was no reference to whether it was legal or not.

Perhaps Romney is part of the 47% that republicans complain about that don't pay any income taxes, you know along with the elderly and poor.

          nycguy,

first, it wasn't really apoligizing, he never came out and said sorry I lied. He said he used the wrong words.

Second, Biden had no reason to apologize!!! He continued the analogy USED BY THE REPUBLICANS that they want to unshackle wall street. He said they want to unchain wall street, they'll put you'all back in chains.

Romney wants to let -- he said in the first hundred days, he's going to let the big banks once again write their own rules. Unchain Wall Street, they're going to put y'all back in chains."

When you see the entire quote does it still sound racist?

Look at the number of Americans still underwater because of the dastardly things that took place in the housing market; look at the number of banks that took billions in federal funds supposedly to provide credit to Americans, only to use it to shore up their balance sheets; look at the banking industry fighting tooth and nail to prevent future regulations.

It is clear that Wall Street doesn't care about American consumers, except to keep them shackled in debt through sky high credit card balances, thus allowing the financial industry to make billions off the high interest rates. Bankers fought hard to keep hitting account holders with hidden fees, again lining their pockets. And they sure as heck aren't doing enough to stabilize the housing market by drawing down principals and placing a moratorium on foreclosures.

So we should recognize Romney's recipe of ideas as a disaster for consumers and a boon for Wall Street.

You can be angry all you want about Biden's chains comments, but you better be just as upset if we have to go through another financial calamity like we did in 2008 when Wall Street ran amok and took us for suckers in an effort to tap into our pocketbooks again, courtesy of the U.S. Treasury.

Aikin is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the GOP: misogynistic, hateful, intolerant, ignorant, and above all, hypocritical. These are the principles embraced by the Republican Party since it has found a new home in the gutter and it is precisely these contemptible qualities that are turning America away from their failed political ideology.

President Obama by default in November! America is holding an election and the GOP isn't going to show up!

Thanks, but we're having way too much fun watching you're team shoot themselves in the foot, flip flop on every issue, and fighting with each other. You're all-star team of mental midgets doesn't stand a chance of winning in November. Until then, let's get back to your big ideas on how to limit women's rights to healthcare and how to define rape. Btw you should be proud; your Texas Republican cohorts just won a federal appeals court ruling cutting off all funding to Planned Parenthood because they work with companies that perform abortions. The Texas Attorney General called Planned Parenthood a terrorist organization. Sounds like you guys really understand how to get unwanted teen pregnancies under control, and with such panache! Sorry Ido, maybe we can talk about adult things when republicans starting talking and thinking like adults.

Gee, so Akin made a dumb statement, so what? Obama and Biden have made tons of dumb statements. Most of them by Obama clearly shows that he hates this country and the people living in it. I'm still not sure how many states he believes there are. He's visited 57 of them, but he didn't indicate that that was all of them. Quite frankly, I'll take a dumb statement by Akin over an Obama follower like McCaskill any day. And the GOP had better wake up and accept that Akin made a dumb statement and start pointing out that Akin supports the economic policies that will help save our country. And that's more important some dumb ol' statement.

The media won't move on until you move on and with- anti-abortion being the topic of YOUR convention I don't think any wishful thinking is going to change that unpopular discussion subject is it.

I know this is off topic but I don't see the news item here regarding a total of $52,000 in campaign contributions by former Wall Street Executive (the same Wall Street that O rails on), read on sheeples!

A veteran Wall Street executive who performed an independent review that exonerated the Obama administration's program of loans to energy companies contributed $52,500 to re-elect President Barack Obama in the months since completing his work, according to an Associated Press review of campaign records. The executive defended the integrity of his conclusions and said he decided to donate to Obama after his work was finished.

The campaign contributions to Obama started just weeks after Herbert M. Allison Jr., in congressional testimony in March, minimized concerns that the Energy Department was at high risk in more than $23 billion in federal loans awarded to green energy firms. Two weeks later, Allison began giving to the Obama campaign. His contributions to Obama and the Democratic National Committee totaled $52,500 by last month. Allison previously was the former head of the government's mass purchase of toxic Wall Street assets.

Where is the outcry for the acts committed by Bill Clinton?

Nothing matters to the left unless it can somehow help them maintain POWER over our country.

          Steve-

Actually, Bill Clinton committed forceable rape, so that's why the left is so up and arms about these words. Their hero would be characterized as such...

BTW, no defending Akin's statement, but I think he was simply refering to actual rape and not "faux" rape (aka the Duke lacrosse team). At least that's what I thought what he meant. Republicans do not beleive "rape" is OK. And, regarding the term "forceable rape", again, I think that is different that consensual statatory rape. If an 18 year old and 17 year old boy and girl have sex, and the girl's parents get mad, there is a case of statatory rape. So, any anti-rape legislation should make a clarification...and, since Obama is OK with the murder of unborn babies that can survive outside the womb after a botched, 3rd trimester abortion, one would think he wouldn't want some 18-year having consentual sex with is 17-year old girlfriend go to jail...

          Paul-4412303

Your comments are insensitive and callous. There is no such thing as an “actual” or “faux” rape, not even in the case of the Duke Lacrosse team.

When someone is accused of rape, those charges are proven or not substantiated. If a case goes to trial, the defendant is proven guilty or not guilty of the charges. If found not guilty, it does not make it a “faux” rape. If a person charged with murder is found not guilty, would you call “faux murder”?

In addition, if a person is found not guilty of the charge of rape, it does not mean that the rape did not occur. It means that they were not found guilty of the charge of rape.

Rape is the commission of unlawful sexual intercourse or unlawful sexual intrusion. Rape is nonconsensual sex. Lack of consent is a necessary element in every rape. There is no such thing as “consensual statutory rape.” Children are incapable of consenting to sex because of their age and innocence. Sexual intercourse or intrusion of a child by an older person is socially unacceptable and harmful to the child.

The reason "forcible rape,” is offensive, is that a woman should not have to be beaten to a pulp, by her rapist to prove it’s a rape. This is why, since the 1970’s, lack of consent is a necessary element in every rape. A victim can object verbally without having to be beaten, to prove rape. NO MEANS NO.

What is most irritating to all lot of woman, is that people like you think it is ok to marginalize rape by insinuating that there are different degrees or kinds of rape such as “legitimate”, “actual”, or “faux” or “forcible” rape. Rape is rape.

A woman who has been raped must endure humiliating procedures when she reports her assault. She is sent to a hospital for a medical examination and the collection of evidence that is needed to convict a suspect. She is asked to tell her story repeatedly, reliving the assault several times.

Rape is a violent, life changing act abusive act.

Liberals are the do as I say not as I do crowd. Liberals can do nothing but blame and point fingers. Liberals simply will not hold their own party to the same standard they demand of everyone else. Not one word ever uttered by Obama or any member of the Democratic Party has ever been found to be offensive to liberals. But with the race now a dead heat, you can expect the liberal rhetoric to get even more outrageous and nasty as their do as I say not as I do president continues to fall in the polls. So lets talk some hoops, or what flavor ice cream Obama likes, or what super powers he would like to have, and any other drivel that is meaningless for the country.

Do you actually read the guts of the polls? You know, the part that says what mix of partisans, sex, and race?

I do. At the beginning of the year, polls were using a 5 or 6 point edge in democrat respondents to Republican respondents. The week Ryan was announced as the VP Choice, the polls started using a y - 12 point democrat advantage. That is a interesting change seeing the Democrats were, +6 points in 2008, +3 points in 2010, and this year in the 10 swing states, democrat registrations are down 800,000, Republican registrations are down 80,000 (pre-Ryan) and independent registrations are up over 300,000.

What is really interesting is a Mason-Dixon Poll used a 50-50 split on democrats and republicans for a Romney 51, Obama 42 poll, and then PPP (A democrat polling company) used 39% Republicans and 30% Republican poll just Monday to show the Missouri Senate race that Republican Akin was up 44 to 43 over McCaskill.

                  Both can't be right!

To the people that say it's ok that Romney invested in Stericycle because it disposes of medical waste (including aborted fetuses), let me ask you this question. Why is ok to in invest in a company that in addition to other things disposes aborted fetuses, and not ok for planned parenthood to exist when only 3% of what they do is abortions?

Is it money?--Does your worship of the almighty dollar trump your dogmatic opposition to abortions?

The Romney/Ryan advertisement's continue to tell this LIE about the $716 Billion savings in Medicare because of the ACA.

I don't expect anyone with narrow views to understand what is happening in the Political World BUT what is going to happen to Womens Medical rights under Romney/Ryan?

If Americans would actually look at what their own representatives stand for and vote based on actual issues and the truth, President Obama would win in a landslide along with the Senate AND the House. Sadly there are too many brainwashed by the hate media that follow blindly towards their own peril. Obama will win, but people need to see what is going on before it is too late.

I find that hard to believe since most Americans disagree with most of Obama's policies. I think if anything, Obama is benefiting from brainwashed individuals, not being hurt by them.

Americans may disagree with Obama's policies, but its better than the alternative. There's a LOT of brainwashing going on for both sides. The media is despicable.

Check the polls lately? Unfortunately you are wrong as well as misguided. More Americans think that Romney/Ryan is "out of step" with the thinking of mainstream Americans. They aren't favored in the healthcare debate either. What other BS are you gonna try to sell us? That Ryan is a fiscal hawk, or Romney cares about the middle class?

Oh Romney would save this country alright. Just like he saved the working class in massachusetts . The average middle class income went down in mass when he was gov and he did NOT balance the budget as he professes in one of his lying campaign ads, he left it in a huge deficit. Mass. was third from the bottom in job creation when Romney was governor. He was known as the king of outsourcing ( and proud of it because it made him and his investors quite wealthy) when he owned and ran Bain Capital all those years. He created jobs alright, in China and Taiwan. He also brags that he did not raise taxes when he was governor. What he doesn't tell you is that he put" fees "on everything from fishing licenses, to tanning, to work permits, building permits, just about anything you can think of, but don't call that taxes, they are FEES. He has said he supports the Ryan plan and would sign it during the primaries, now he doesn't want to talk about that. He was pro choice during his governorship now he is anti choice. Anything to garner votes from the right fringe. He tells college students they shouldn't worry about college loans , they can just ask thier parents for a loan. He naturaly thinks that all midle class families have $100,000 they can just loan their kid. Why does he think college loans exist? Oh and lets not forget how he " saved " the olympics by begging and borrowing money from every government agency he could.I have never seen any politician who is so clueless about middle class life.

He is stiff, emotionless , sounds like an idiot every time he opens his mouth, he's even robotic and there is nothing endearing about this man. One thing I could not help but notice is when he was in Pa standing on the stage with those coal workers behind him. The workers were all in their dirty work clothes, helmits with lights on them , standing there to greet him. He walked onto the stage, smiled at the crowd, eating up the applause ,then turned around to smile at the workers behind him , his arms held stiffly by his sides never once holding out his hand to shake one of thier hands . I bet he was thinking "these guys are filthy. I don't want to get my $200 white shirt dirty so I'll stay my distance. " President Obama would have shaken every one of their hands and put his other hand on every one of their shouldars while doing so. Then he has the nerve to complain that Obama doesn't support them when coal use is up and coal related jobs are up. This man lies thru his teeth, is out of touch with mainstream Amercia and will do anything to garner votes. He is really pathetic.

We certainly wouldn't want to focus on the real issues affecting all Americans which is the economy, dept, taxes, etc.

Akin is an idiot and his statement has been denounced by the RNC, Romney/Ryan, and just about everyone on the right.

Only three more monthly Unemployment reports to go. Are you sure your going to be able to convince America the Democrats are the ones to fix our economy ,fix unemployment, fix the national dept and deficit spending after four years of failing to pass federal budgets?

Democrats have had 2/3rds of the control for the last six years and for two of those years 3/3rds of the power so why isn't our economy fixed?

Can you try to explain that without blaming Bush?

There are nearly 10 million more people unemployed now than since the democrats took majority control of the government back in 2007. Unemployment and our debt has more than doubled and our deficit has increased over 600%.

Romney is running away from these words but took the endorsement from Aiken expert doctor who believe that nonsense about rape does not lead to pregnancy in 2007.

Akin has cosponsered with Ryan every bill that tried to weaken or do away with Rode v Wade.

Romney has not talked about his plan to fix the economy. He has been talking about everything else.

If Romney cheated on his taxes then the IRS would have investigated him and charged him with something.

Do you do your own taxes or pay someone to do them for you? If Romney only paid 13% in taxes for the last decade then He must have damn good accountants who know the Tax laws well. Wouldn't you take advantage of every tax break and loophole you could use legally?

If Romney did something Illegal then prove it. Then again I guess Debbie Wasserman Shultz must be a tax cheat also since she refuses to release her tax returns and has investments in foreign countries.

Wouldn't you want someone as the POTUS who surrounds themselves with very competent people who know how to do their jobs well?

Maybe not if your voting for Obama.

Prove it. Most of my family is Conservative and they believe there should be exceptions for Abortion for rape, Medical reasons, etc.

Is there limits to free Speech?

Is their limits to the Second Amendment?

Like any right there should be some reasonable limits. Live birth abortion is appalling. Its not a Fetus, its not a Zygot. Its a human child ready to be born. But sorry , Barack, your 2012 attempt at re-election is more reminiscient of Michael Jordan's over the hill pathetic efforts with the Washington Wizards...

Face it libs, you elected an unknown community organizer who spoke well in front of a teleprompter. It is understandable that you elected him as a Bush backlash, but seriously, you have no real reason to stand by the most unqualified, and most inept president ever. Lets talk about the economy, the debt, healthcare, government spending, over-regulation, and the looming nanny state welfare stooges killing this country. Mitts tax returns and a statement by a Missouri senate candidate are simple distractions that liberals are trying to inflame in order to deflect from the real issues. Grow some balls and lets have a real discussion about real issues.

Just to be clear, Romney has not been charged with tax evasion, tax cheating, false returns, or any other misconduct regarding paying taxes. He has complied 100% with the IRS and is in no violation of any law what so ever. DAL, you are the classic example of a bomb throwing liberal who makes arguments based solely on emotion without regard to fact or logic. That reasoning may work well for your when speaking among your inner circle of online friends, but as far as making headway with people of any intellect, you prove to be the generic, stereotypical bigot who has never earned an ounce of true respect by anyone.

Just to be clear, you said Romney hasn't been charged with anything. True. Just on conjecture, since Romney turned over 23 years of tax returns to the McCaign campaign in 2007 but is releasing only 2010 and 2011 taxes to the public, what could be on those 2007 to 2009 returns that shouldn't be seen? Since the Meltdown happened in 2008, could it be that somehow Mr Romney made money on it? Or could it be that he participated in the widely publicized amnesty program the government sponsored for people who paid no taxes on offshore accounts and were allowed to fess up and pay up with no legal ramifications? Again, this is purely conjecture but frankly I am curious.

                                  Why are you not curious?

What, you mean like how the Right tried to de-humanize Liberals during the Bush years? I've no interest in getting into this pi$$ing contest that's going on here, but let's be perfectly candid. The ridiculous levels of hateful vitriol that are spewing from both sides, have been going on for quite some time. Remember how liberals hated America? Hated our troops? Loved terrorists? So on and so forth? We all, are responsible for the way these campaigns are being waged, because we swallow it up hook line and sinker, and continuously tolerate it. People bemoan sensationalist journalism....while reading the same tripe, from the same damn columnists.

I realize both sides feel extremely strong about their choice for President, but the facts are, if we don't learn to control our knee-jerk emotions, it's only going to get worse from campaign to campaign.

I wouldn't say that he doesn't know anything. His comment was incorrect, but Obama doesn't know a thing about our largest source of energy, but he still puts out an energy policy.

Why do you call a person who has a different opinion than yours insane? Sounds like you have a pretty closed mind.

Probably because it's insane to force everyone to adhere to your ideology when it interferes with your personal choices, PAF. As with the contraceptive debate, nobody is saying that anyone HAS to have an abortion. However, Akin and Ryan have both sponsored bills that would attempt to enforce their ideology upon women, effectively removing their right to their own bodies.

As for Obama's energy policy...and really any of Obama's ideas. They need to pass through the House and Senate first, at which time they rarely look anything like what he proposed. Plus, you have the continual House (Rep) versus Senate (Dem) fight going on, where the House routinely allows only things from the Right to get through, and then the Senate sits on them for forever.

People shouldn't really be that concerned over the Presidency, it's the House and Senate that are key here. Without one side having full control of the White House and Congress, very little is ever going to get done.
