Ryan 'comfortable' with Romney's stance on abortion rights

RALEIGH, N.C. – Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan admitted Wednesday that he told Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) to end his bid for the U.S. Senate, and noted he is “comfortable” with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s stance on abortion.

Akin “should have dropped out of the race,” Ryan told reporters on his campaign plane while flying from Virginia to North Carolina. “But he is not, he is going to run his campaign and we are going to run ours.”

The single phone call between Ryan and Akin, according to the Wisconsin congressman, went how “you would imagine.” There are no additional plans to speak with Akin going forward in order to convince the Missouri congressman to reconsider continuing his bid to replace current Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO).

Ryan, who co-sponsored anti-abortion legislation with Akin, said he is proud of his opposition to abortion rights, and brushed off the vote as a bi-partisan measure. The House Budget Chairman is on board with Romney's position on abortion rights moving forward.

Related: Ryan on Akin: 'Rape is rape'

"Look I'm proud of my record," Ryan said. “Mitt Romney is going to be president and the president sets policy. His policy is exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. I'm comfortable with it because it's a good step in the right direction."

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign criticized this switch on Ryan’s beliefs.

“As a Republican leader in the House, Paul Ryan worked with Todd Akin to try to narrow the definition of rape and outlaw abortion even for rape victims. He may hope that American women never learn about this record, but they deserve an answer to why he wanted to redefine rape and remove protections for rape victims,” campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith wrote in a statement.

Chilli, still having trouble with facts and truth I see. Ryan never wanted to remove protection for rape victims. That is pure libby lies, but that is what is to be expected.

Reproductive rights? No one says you can't reproduce, although in your case that might be a really good idea.

You clowns just think the government (i.e. me and other taxpayers) should pay for your birth control. How about you take some personal responsibility? Oh, that is way to hard for a libby, they want the government to do everything for them. Then they will turn around and accuse the government of 'trying to control my uterus'. What hypocrites. Either you want them in your vagina (Obamacare) or you don't. Make up your minds. LMAO

Ryan 'comfortable' with Romney's stance on abortion rights

which Romney is Ryan 'comfortable' with?:

a) The Romney who was FOR abortion when running for office in liberal Massachusetts

b) The Romney that was FOR Ryan/Akin's definition of 'legitimate rape"

c) The Romney that is against the Ryan/Akin's definition of "legitimate rape"

d) Whatever stance Romney will have to adopt in the future (could be tomorrow, next week, or anytime before Nov. 6th)

RSR: You're either misinformed or are the liar you accuse liberals of being.

"Chilli, still having trouble with facts and truth I see. Ryan never wanted to remove protection for rape victims. That is pure libby lies, but that is what is to be expected."

Less attention has been paid, though, to Ryan’s hard-right positions on social issues. Indeed, on abortion and women’s health care, there isn’t much daylight between Ryan and, say, Michele Bachmann. Any Republican vice-presidential candidate is going to be broadly anti-abortion, but Ryan goes much further. He believes ending a pregnancy should be illegal even when it results from rape or incest, or endangers a woman’s health. He was a cosponsor of the Sanctity of Human Life Act, a federal bill defining fertilized eggs as human beings, which, if passed, would criminalize some forms of birth control and in vitro fertilization. The National Right to Life Committee has scored his voting record 100 percent every year since he entered the House in 1999. “I’m as pro-life as a person gets,” he told The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack in 2010. “You’re not going to have a truce.”

Ryan - as I suspected, is an articulate, detailed, somewhat charming and HUGE target for the dems to keep Romney off message (not that he had a message). Ryan crystalizes the vacuous, vague, platitude filled "vision" of a Romney administration and ties it directly to the house republicans - A big thank you to Mitt.

Obama is not perfect by any means (not that he has been met with anything but total obstructionism - see filibuster world records!), but instead of a referendum, we now have a clear choice election. Ryan's nod makes the choice clear. Women, Blacks, Latinos, Seniors - yep - looks like he's REALLY counting old old white folks.

Suppressing the vote is their only chance now.

If I were advising Obama - I would hammer the message hard on how troubled he is by the debt and deficit and what particular prescriptions he has to address it. WE know he had a grand bargain on the table, and WE know he has been stymied for political reasons exclusively in getting that deal across to address the debt. (God forbid Boner does a deal with the evil socialist Obama!).....But the message is not getting through, and it's the only reason anyone would vote republican; their "perceived" hawkishness on the deficit. Obama needs to go on offense and agree wholeheartledly that we are on a path that is unsustainable fiscally - which is true. Democrats everywhere need to hammer that and stop only whining about programs that we can't pay for in the long term...DON'T let the republicans own this argument. It's the only argument we need to get out there and this thing is over - no matter how much these clowns spend....(which is another 6-pack of discussions on how to get ALL money out of this stuff...it's ridiculous).

I don't agree with Mitt's policies but I agree even less with Ryan's. Apparently he has forgotten that if elected he would be first in line to replace Mitt should anything happen to the president, then it becomes Ryan's presidency and Ryan's policies. Vice-presidential candidates and their positions do matter, especially those that are as extreme as Paul Ryan's. "R battle - elections just plain suck" WOW, To all that believe like this I truly feel sorry for you. Elections matter. Democracy is not for the faint of heart, nor the wallflowers among us. Democracy is being engaged in our future, engaged in our present, knowledgeable about our past. Democracy is understanding where we have gone wrong and what we must do to correct those wrongs. Democracy is all about how we work, play and live together in a civilized society. Neither side is blameless and democracy, through elections, is a dirty, dirty, knock down, name calling cat fight over what we feel is best for our country. I relish this Right (not priviledge) and apparently so do the tens of thousands of men and women who have died to protect this Right. The fact that you can belittle this cherished Right does dishonor to these men and women. The fact that there is so much effort being put into suppressing this Right does dishonor to these men and women. If you don't want to participate that is fine with me, but don't ever, ever tread on my Right.

To Believe Romney-Ryan are the saviors for the economy is self-delusional. Ryan's budget, Romney's history and both of their words clearly demonstrate their total commitment to serving "the money" and to continually taking the majority for granted, to just further feed the insatiable "more" (never enough) appetite of the 1% while leaving the 99% struggling, while witnessing the further disappearance of the middle-class. The Republican / Tea Party has become owned and controlled by "the money" and with the power, influence and money provided they simply take the majority for granted while assuming they can con the people and manipulate public opinion. They have no conscience or concern for the majority as they even strive to excite emotions of the conservative pro-life Christian, to their totally advocating for strong infringement on womans rights. Their deceptive positions reek of male egotism and theocratic ideals, next they will simply want women to wear sacks over their heads. Seriously it is obvious that they will use any argument to gain support and no where do they ever demonstrate any rational concern for other than their political ambitions and for serving "the money", how ever they need to accomplish their goals. Are the people really just that easy?

Question on rape and abortions. If a woman is raped and gets pregnant, she can have an abortion according to Romney and NOW Ryan. Why is the woman allow and/or wants an abortion?? Because she doesn't want the child, can't afford to raise the child, afraid of having the child, or what ever her CHOICE is. Now if a woman gets pregnant because she didn't take precautions to prevent the pregnancy, now she can't have the abortion, WHY??? She still must not want the child, or she feels she can't raise the child, or what ever her CHOICE is. Same reasons??? What is the difference? Just because SHE did take the steps to avoid the pregnancy, now it is illegal according to Romney and Ryan.
