Romney taps the fundraising well in Texas oil country

ODESSA, TX – Mitt Romney returned to Texas oil country Tuesday to fuel his campaign coffers with nearly $7 million raised in just one day, largely with money from top energy industry executives.

So far this presidential campaign, Romney has extracted $13.9 million dollars in contributions from Texas, making it the second best fundraising state for the GOP nominee after cash-cow California. New York, with its massive financial sector, comes in a close third.

Unlike previous fundraising swings through the nation's largest oil-producing state, which have netted millions for Romney's campaign and the GOP Victory fund, Romney's two-step through Houston and Midland this time is geared at the oil and gas industry, and comes as the candidate is preparing to further outline his energy policy at a campaign event in New Mexico later this week.

Romney started his day with a luncheon at the Houstonian Hotel that was hosted by energy industry titans including Rex Tillerson, CEO of oil and gas giant Exxon Mobil, and L.E. Simmons, a fellow member of the LDS church and Romney's Texas finance chairman, who made his millions investing in the booming energy sector here.

Harold Hamm, a billionaire pioneer in modern drilling techniques who spearheaded oil and gas development in North Dakota, now America's second largest oil producing state, was also in attendance at the $50,000 per person event, where Romney relayed his story as an example of bold economic risk taking.

Romney told this audience he planned to roll out more detail on his energy policy but said he would offer them a first look behind closed doors.

"I know that we have members of the media here right now, so I'm not going to go through that in great detail so I can save a bit of that until a little later in the week. But your input is something I wanted to retain before we actually cross the ‘t’s and dot the ‘i’s on those policies," Romney said, telling some 125 top donors that his energy plan, centered on fossil fuels like oil, gas, and coal would do a better job taking advantage of America's natural resources than that of President Barack Obama, echoing a common stump speech theme.

The presumptive GOP nominee has long focused on developing America's natural resources, particularly oil, gas, and coal as a key to unlocking the stagnant economy. He lists it first on his five-point plan to restore the economy at nearly every campaign event, and just last week accused Obama of waging a "war on coal," which he claims stifles job creation, particularly in coal-rich (and electoral-vote-rich) Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Romney has come out against extending tax breaks for wind energy development, joking that you can't put a windmill on your car, and arguing for the economic necessity of expanding fossil fuel development in the near term.

Democrats have subsequently accused Romney of being in the pocket of oil companies, and of ignoring alternative energy, questioning how his energy plan, which thus far lacks specifics beyond a pledge to reach North American energy independence by 2021, is any different from the much-derided "Drill baby, drill" mantra of Republican candidates in 2008.

The final stop on Romney's energy pilgrimage comes Tuesday night at the Petroleum Club of Midland, where an invitation obtained by NBC News listed exploration and drilling company Concho Resources executives Timothy Leach and Jack Harper as event hosts, alongside Statewide Minerals owner Miles Boldrick, whose company website claims over 25,000 oil and gas wells nationwide.

For Romney, while the details of his energy policy remain to be seen, the cash well still runs deep.

Texas... New York... LA.. or Chicago...

There isn't a check out there which Willard isn't willing to get down on his knees for!

Or his wife either... as a matter or fact!

Talk about a couple of corporate welfare queens!

Why isn't Daddy Warbucks (aka Mr. I MAKE 57K per day) financing HIS own campaign instead of pimping himself out to others!

Where are the tax returns?

This is all so boring like I need a tweet every second about what these two rich, white, males are doing. Nothing bold there -- snore.

After Citizen's United, Romney doesn't have to use his own money like he used to do.

I think it's obvious, Romney would pimp out his wife and kids to become POTUS.

He's not in the pocket of big oil, he's stuck to the bottom of their shoe.

I urge everyone on the fence about Romney to google "Sociopath".. He has a classic form of this characteristic.

This is probably why he was so good at lying and how he can look a reporter right in the eyes and lie outright, even when there is video evidence to the contrary.

these excerpts from sociopathicstyle.com/traits/classic.htm

Sociopath can lie without remorse or embarrassment

5. CONNING AND MANIPULATIVENESS- the use of deceit and deception to cheat, con, or defraud others for personal gain; distinguished from Item #4 in the degree to which exploitation and callous ruthlessness is present, as reflected in a lack of concern for the feelings and suffering of one's victims.

Sociopaths don't have empathy with other people or animals

6. LACK OF REMORSE OR GUILT -- a lack of feelings or concern for the losses, pain, and suffering of victims; a tendency to be unconcerned, dispassionate, coldhearted, and un empathic. This item is usually demonstrated by a disdain for one's victims.

7. SHALLOW AFFECT -- emotional poverty or a limited range or depth of feelings; interpersonal coldness in spite of signs of open gregariousness.

8. CALLOUSNESS and LACK OF EMPATHY -- a lack of feelings toward people in general; cold, contemptuous, inconsiderate, and tactless.

I love reading you libbys try to spin all of the BS stories that NDC lays out for you.

When the Big Zero goes out to his Hollywood friends you see nothing wrong. When he comes to Manhattan and disrupts my traffic you see nothing wrong. And believe me if this twit were actually doing something about governing the country it would be okay but HE IS NOT!!!

More promises of more of spending other peoples money is all he has. More promises of more of giving American jobs to illegals is what he wants. When are you going to see that??

Not to worry if you don't I expect that the rest of the country has more than enough brains than the libbys here have to make the changes that we all need.

Oh and BTW Obama will never get Texas oil money so stop with the money envy!!

Those funny little marks are used to signify a quotation so the words inside them should be something that somebody actually said rather than some miscellaneous words that you pulled out of your ass.

As to your "job creators," when will these jobs be created? After a decade of tax cuts, most of the jobs created are in Asia. Remember the "giant sucking sound" from years past. That's middle class wealth being redistributed to Romney and his friends.

Texas today.

Thursday he will be in Wazata, MN at a fundraiser hosted by T-Paw and the GOP money guys.

The private dinner is offered for $50,000. for an invitation. For 10Grand you get to have your picture taken with him at another event.

After he collects all his "tribute", will he ride into Tampa on his dressage horse??

Backcountry164 - your are waiting for studies on voter surpression but I guess all the examples of people having a hard time obtaining proper documentation before November is not enough for you.

I'll give you another example: my boss was adopted so his birth certificate has a different last name than his current last name. He is jumping through hoops to get a passport. It's not extremely difficult for him since he has means and ways to get his ducks in the row but it's time consuming. Now picture a 90-yr-old woman who never drove or never really had a picture id. It's not only time consuming for her, it is also costly. And when you get a $800/month SS check, it matters

Now you might not care about the old, or the poor so let me ask you this. Why did you suggest to blearyeyed who wrote:

I can walk to vote, I have to get in a car and drive 12 miles to get an id.

to:

Or you can sit at home and cast an absentee ballot. Problem solved.

if you are truly about preventing voter fraud by implementing specific IDs, why do you suggest absentee ballot THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE SHOWING ID????????!!!!!

While Republicans cannot prove voter fraud - by trying to prove it exists, they actually proved that it does not - they want to prevent people from voting in person by requiring IDs. While absentee ballot voter fraud is provable, the Republicans don't want to limit anyone from using absentee ballot because IT BENEFITS THEM.

So again, the Republicans are hypocrites and anyone who claims that these Republican voter ID laws are to prevent fraud is naive at best.

you won't respond because you cannot explain how someone who is for showing ID when voting would suggest to someone to use a method that does not require showing ID and is more prone to fraud.

and again, voter fraud doesn't exist and the Republican National Lawyers Association | (RNLA) said so.

      #2.8 - Wed Aug 22, 2012 12:52 PM EDT

Taking a dispassionate look at this, it seems to actually be decent news for the challenger. Gallup Tracking has Romney up by 2 points, Obama is below the magic 50% threshold on most polls, his campaign spent more in July than it took in and he is going to be vastly outspent after the conventions by Romney and the Conservative SuperPacs who are significantly outraising him each month. Look for a blitz of anti-Obama ads in October, followed by continued high gas prices and an economy that shows no signs of improving and that is about as good an environment that any presidential challenger could ask for (not that anyone should be happy about a weak economy). In the end, it probably will come down to turnout and given this data, a Romney victory would hardly be considered a shocker.

Let's eliminate all lobbyists so there is no need for Unions anymore - because right now corporations' only "competition" is Unions.

              Bayllie,

You live in a delusional world. And I'm sure I can thank my company for providing a matching 401k plan all because of the union too? You want this to be a fair relationship, then tell me why is it so hard to get rid of substandard employees that are being protected by the unions? At will employment is fair for both parties. So you are saying it's ok for a company to get rid of someone, but have that same right of a worker to just quit at a moment's notice? Why is that fair? Tell me, why in California have the public teachers union rejected proposition for streamlining the process of getting rid of a child molestor? And tell me why are the unions so afraid of a proposition out here that would outlaw them having from taking political contributions from their rank and file in the form of payroll deductions? Why can't their rank and file donate (if they wish to) directly their political PAC's, why do they need to have a payroll deduction? It pretty clear to see the undue influence unions have over their membership. The union at the plant I work is despised. Why? Because the vast majority don't believe the union has ever worked in their best interest, that all the union is interested in is their money. In fact, several of their union executive management were arrested, tried and convicted for corruption. Gee...surprise!!

If you want it to be fair, then I agree both sides need to stop contributing huge sums of money to their political candidates. All I see is your side whining about how unfair corporate contributions are but at the same time, you act all offended when we touch the precious cow of a union.

              401(k) has 2 advantages for a company.

              1. it is a way to attract/retain employees

              2. Employer contributions to their own account are tax deductible. In most cases, if there is a "company match", contributions on behalf of employees are also tax deductible to the business.

Basically, it is cheaper for companies to offer 401(k) than to pay you more because they get a tax break for 401k vs. paying more in UI, and taxes on you bigger salary. So don't think for a minute that companies offer 401(k) out of the goodness of their heart.

You want this to be a fair relationship, then tell me why is it so hard to get rid of substandard employees that are being protected by the unions? At will employment is fair for both parties

no it's not and it won't be until companies stop discriminating against wistleblowers, women, minorities, old, etc.

Both candidates are spending tons of time raising money, and they are both on target to break fundraising records.

So what if Romney is raising money in Texas? He's also raising it in NY and CA too...just like Obama.

                Bayllie,

Nice deflection again! Why don't you address the undue influence unions have over their membership? Why are they fighting so hard to keep the provision that allows them to extract "political" contributions from their membership through payroll deductions? Is that perhaps they would find out that if they didn't, their membership wouldn't give a crap about their unions? Here in California, we are going to vote on Prop. 32 which among other things would eliminate political contributions from both big corporations and unions, but it would also forbid unions from taking political contributions directly from their membership through payroll deductions. Care to comment? Also the CTA (California Teachers Association--THE largest public union in California) declined to endorse a provision that would have allowed the LAUSD the authority to get rid of a child molestor. Care to comment?

You, as usual, hide behind the same old tired notion of that so many union members are oppressed under the thumb of big companies or big government, when in fact, their membership is the one SCREAMING to out from under their corruption.

                Nice deflection again!

you brought up the 401(k) so the deflection is on YOU.

Why don't you address the undue influence unions have over their membership?

why don't you address the undue influence corporate lobbyist have?

The power of the oil lobby is well documented. Big oil spent a reported $169 million lobbying in the US in 2009, and millions more on political support. That's just one industry.

The banking industry, between 1998 and 2008,spent $3.4 billion on lobbying the US government.

Yet, you want to demonize a group that respresents, what?, 11-12% of workers in this country?

Why are they fighting so hard to keep the provision that allows them to extract "political" contributions from their membership through payroll deductions?

again, anyone who is not interested in holding a union job is welcome to move on to the private sector - someone else will take their place. But for some reason, people like the job security that the private sector has NEVER offered and NEVER will offer.

If anyone group has power in this country is the private industry paid lobbyists that no UNION will ever be able to match. EVER.

Again, you seriously need to give up all your rights to Labor Laws including overtime pay. Just tell your boss that you don't want it because you don't want to have anything to do with evil Unions.

Based on his comments from other speeches, Gov. Romney's overall "energy plan" is pretty simple. 1) Reduce funding to the EPA in order to reduce enforcement of environmental regulations; 2) Dramatically gut the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act to allow for "better use of our natural resources"; 3) Increase oil subsidies and provide increased tax breaks for exploratory drilling; 4) Reduce the power of unions to negotiate (especially effective for coal mining companies); 5) Reduce the number of independent inspections of coal mines by allowing the industry additional self-regulatory powers; 6) Reduce or remove subsidies for renewable energy investments.

Based on the who's who list as specified in the article I'd also expect: the selling of of ANWAR; decreased study time for drilling permits; Keystone to be approved in spite of it not meeting environmental regulations.

Wonder if T. Boon Pickens was invited . . .

And Romney had the audacity to tell those coal miners how much he appreciates their hard work. They better hope there aren't more accidents, and if they survive that, they better hope they can still get medical treatment for black lung.

Well True Patriot, considering that black lung is on the rise . . . http ://www .forbes.com/sites/christopherhelman/2012/07/09/new-case-against-coal-black-lung-is-back/ and http ://www .npr.org/series/156453033/black-lung-returns-to-coal-country

In reading the article it talks about how some workers hid their coal dust monitors in bags or lunch boxes. What most people who will try to blame the miners for their black lung don't understand is that the coal companies have "issues" with ventilation systems. Most folks also don't know that if the mine is shut down due to dust, the workers don't work and don't get paid.

It's a vicious cycle. Miners work in conditions bad conditions that are exacerbated by the companies failure to properly vent or dampen down dust. Miners are told that if the mine is closed down they can go home and not get paid. Most miners have families that depend on them working, so to feed their families they have no choice but to "make things work" on behalf of the companies and at their risk. This plus the increased work hours provided more exposure to coal dust for the miners and thereby increased black lung risk.

In spite of all this and the current regulations not working, the coal mine companies oppose additional dust regulations and enforcement.

Ryan plan gives more tax breaks for the rich like removing taxes on capital gains. Ryan takes away food stamps from starving Children to pay for those tax breaks. Ryan plan takes benefits from veterans to pay for those tax breaks. Taking food out of the mouths of children whose parents lost their jobs, homes, savings, and cannot get a job that pays enough to feed the family. Middle class wages dropped dramatically because of the greedy rich crashing the economy. Ryan taking food from children and families to have Romney buy another dancing horse!

Actually Romney's plan is to create jobs, to reassure business that the children are no longer in charge so they'll reinvest and hire, to create wealth from the bottom up which will result in more revenue so he can save SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. His further plan is to eliminate Obamacare since ... you uber lefters are right...Obama stole it from Romney...and he knows the plan may have worked on the state level but will not on the national level. In addition, Romney will govern from the middle, which is where most of us are.

Normally, I could agree with you were this a normal recovery. But it's not. Business is not hiring or reinvesting for one reason...Obama, his anti business policies and his big government regulations. They don't know what to expect next, and Obamacare carries a lot of uncertain costs. My company is an exception, with a growth strategy to penetrate new markets. We're building for the future, but that's not what our customers tell us. They won't hire, won't reinvest, and believe Obama's a one term prez.

German, just ignore Feisty. I tried to have an adult conversation once with her, but she just responded with typical liberal garbage. I have never heard her actually post a fact, just opinions. Also, it seems that some Liberals on here don't look at the economic world around them. The reason I am saying that is because Germany, the only European country that is doing good right now, has a very smart leader- Angela Merkel. Merkel is a Centre-Right leader that has Capitalistic idea's. She believes in low spending, something that our own president will never understand, and Private Enterprise. Merkel tries and tries to pass her beliefs on to other European leaders, but they don't listen to her. They just try to bully Germany into giving more money to Greece, a country that has been bankrupted by overspending. The reason German citizens are doing so well is because they don't consume more than they make. America over-consumes, while Germany Under-consumes. If America doesn't follow Germany's path, we will end up like Greece.

Starsailing, so do you think Germany is doing terrible right now? Do you think Angela Merkel, who has a 77% approval rating, is a terrible leader? Also, I SUPPORTED my opinions with FACTS.

" Merkel is a Centre-Right leader that has Capitalistic idea's. America over-consumes, while Germany Under-consumes."

The bolded word are not opinions, they are FACTS.

The party of "personal responsibility" needs to wake up the day after the party and own up to what it has done.

Your baseless drivel carries no weight except with other mindnumbed lemmings like yourselves. The Republicans have their failures, but your willingness to let the Democrats off the hook for the policies they put in place and the legislation they supported, proves that you are nothing more than ideological hacks.

I recommend you start with "All The Devils Are Here," by Bethany McLean and Joe Nocera. Unlike you, these authors don't let anybody off the hook.

Romney's kind of men. They would pollute the earth for extra dollar. And Romney has promised them that extra dollar with deregulation bought and paid for by the Koch brothers.

Don't worry just because you can light your water on fire in areas where they are fracking, what's the problem?

Humans don't need clean water to drink to survive as a race do they?

And we are talking about the present by the way...you seem to want to live in the past and try to justify Obama's lack of performance against those before him. Try judging him on his own actions instead, ok?

REPUBS HATE ELDERLY< THE YOUNG< THE POOR AND MIDDLE CLASS BY TAKING AWAY THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE! Repubs creating voter suppression laws all over the country when even their own studies show it does not exist. Repubs in Minnesota are trying to remove same day voter registration when there is ZERO problems registering. People update their voter info and people who are 18 are registering. Repubs don't want the young protecting their interests like having low intersts rate loans(repubs were blocking) Elderly, disabled trying to vote to keep Social Security , Medicare, Medicaid which repubs are trying to take away. REPUBS ONLY WANT CORPORATIONS ARE PEOPLE TOO VOTING for $$$$$$ for the Romney rich!

Texas voter suppression laws are pretty tough. Repubs removing places where they can vote so people have to drive far distances to vote. Rigging the elections like they do in Iran. WHY DO REPUBS HATE AMERICANS?...Oh yeah....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that's why, they love money more!

Biggest lie told by repubs this campaign?....Voter ID fraud. Numerous studies , even their own shows it doesn't exist. In Minnesota repubs are trying to pass a whole mixtures of laws to suppress votes. Repubs in Mn are trying to stop same day election voter registration. Mn Judge dismissed wide ranging suit that repubs created to stop same day registration that 540,000 voters used in 2008! People that turn 18, or update their file, new voters etc..50,000 people they want to remove from voting each presidential election who use the system we have for years and years. Of course repubs are trying to appeal the ruling.Numerous other add ons that have nothing to do with id fraud........Repubs are the party of IRAN, and other countries they warn the U.S. people about. The party of rigging elections, the party of no voting for you if you are not republican. REPUBLICANS THE PARTY OF VOTER SUPPRESSION OF AMERICANS!!!!

starsailing - The left wingers keep harping about so called "voter suppression" which is a bunch of BS. The Supreme Court has upheld the voter photo ID law and so has several state courts. It you left wingers are so concerned what don't you all get off your asses and take people down to their DMV or where ever they need to go to get a proper ID? If one can't afford it the States will issue one free. If one is to damn lazy to get a proper photo ID then he shouldn't be voting.

sfcret - If Pennsylvania, as part of its Voter ID requirement, disenfranchises just ONE voter they will have negatively impacted the election process more than any voter ID fraud. And that's based on Pennsylvania's own legal stipulation before the courts. (source: http ://bradblog. com/Docs/PA_ApplewhiteStipulation_NoInPersonVoterFraud_071212.pdf )

Considering that per Pennsylvania, the voter ID law affects more that 750,000 registered voters, many who are elderly and don't get around very well, what do you think will happen? When you also check the statistics provided to the court, the percentage of minorities affected by this law is very disproportionately high when compared to the total population. It's a simple mathematical fact that Pennsylvania will have "legally" but inappropriately supressed votes.

Pennsylvania is spending millions on this voter ID law for no valid reason. They even say so. At best this is a waste of taxpayer money. At worst, it's a direct and deliberate effort to supress voters rights ala Jim Crow style.

sfcret.........you can't bull@!$%# this one.....several blogs with so much proof of ALEC starting suppression laws around the country. It is not just voter id repubs are asking for, they are changing voting hrs in Dems areas, while extending them in repub area(Ohio) removing same day voter registration to stop people who turned 18 from their first vote, which the young would support lower interests rates on student loans(repubs were blocking). Repubs are removing places where Dems vote and adding more voting places where repubs vote..SO ...sfcret..........YOU ARE SO DEBUNKED and should be ashamed for even trying that old crap here...you should apologize for taking this conversation below ....

Like this from the story the other day.

This statement was difficult to substantiate until 2011 because ALEC’s model bills and membership lists were secret. After Ohio community organizer Aliyah Rahman helped start a spring 2011 protest against ALEC in Cincinnati, someone offered her 800 ALEC documents.

Rahman, who said she never learned the leaker’s identity, turned the documents over to the Center for Media and Democracy, a Wisconsin investigative reporting group focused on “exposing corporate spin and government propaganda,” according to its website. The group launched a website called ALEC Exposed in July 2011.

While that site drew attention to ALEC, activist and media scrutiny exploded because of the council’s support for model bills unrelated to economic issues.

In December 2011, ColorOfChange.org, a civil rights advocacy group founded after Hurricane Katrina, began asking corporations to stop funding ALEC because of the group’s role in pushing photo ID bills.

Texas in someways is even worse. They are requiring people to travel as much as 100 miles one way to get to a driver's license location (they call them DPS) that may be open only one day a week or limited hours.

Imagine now that you are an hourly worker and your family depends on you working as much as possible. Can you afford to take a whole day off of work? Not to mention finding a ride, paying for the gas, and having to pay for copies of documents required to get the ID (the ID might be free, but the supporting documents aren't).

Interestingly enough even FOX News says that voter ID fraud is bogus.

"After a five-year hunt for voter fraud, the Bush administration's Justice Department came up with little widespread fraud, finding mostly cases of people mistakenly filling out voter registration forms or voting when they didn't know they were ineligible, The New York Times reported in 2007. But none of the cases involved a person voting as someone else."

I am sure these "elderly voters" can get their family, or someone like you that is concerned, to help them get a proper ID. BTW, how have they gotten to the polls in the past and how do they go shopping for groceries and clothing? Everyone, the elderly, minorities and others have known for months that they needed a photo ID to vote, so what have they been doing to meet the requirement?

German Girl, Pennsylvania concedes there is NO voter fraud. That's in their legal stipulation to the courts. Read the document.

Note that the State of Pennsylvania also specifies that the AG Kelly (appointed by Gov. Corbett) will not testify. Frankly, I think it's kind of unusual for the AG not to testify in a case that affects Constitutionally protected rights.

Also, David Burgess, deputy secretary for planning and service delivery at Pennsylvania’s Department of State, testified in state court in Harrisburg that the voter ID law may affect as many as 1,500,000 people in Pennsylvania versus the 750,000 claimed by the Governor. As of 2008 there were only 8,755,000 registered voters in PA total (source: http ://www .portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/voter_registration_statistics/12725 )

sfcret - voter IDs are only presented at the polls. Absentee ballots come in via the mail. Voter ID will NOT address that fraud concern. A person could have a voter ID and still a fraudulent absentee ballot can be filled out.

Part of the issue with the elderly is the procuremet of the necessary paperwork to get the ID. Often elderly may also not have the funds to pay for copies of birth certificates from other states and legal papers that show name changes when married. Sometimes (especially in the era of handwritten or typed birth certificates) there are typos in name spellings. Then the elderly have to find someway to address the slight name differences. Heck, in some cases the courthouses with the borht certificates may have been flooded or burned down. Example - how many documents do you think were irrevocably lost in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina or in Manhattan during 9-11?

Starsailing - Quit with the left wing talking points about voter suppression. People have had ample time to get proper ID to vote. Get off your DAMNED ASSES and quit blaming everybody but your own stupidity.

Matthew - I am aware of what Absentee ballots are, I have used them since 1962 (when I first voted you had to be 21). My point about absentee ballots was that the elderly can vote by absentee, thereby bypassing the need for a photo ID at the polls.

Karl Rove said..if they can take away 1% of voters in 9 states repubs can win....Repubs and voter suppression laws......taking away the right to vote from almost a million voters in Pennsylvania and german girl is proud of it. Even the repub voter suppression law leader said getting it done gets Romney elected. CRIMINAL AT BEST!

sfcret - while absentee ballots might be an option to address the voter ID issue, as of August 17, 2012, Pennsylvania has ceased to offer the on-line absentee ballot request this year claiming that they are too busy with the voter IDs. This creates a physically impossible situation to honor all mail-in requests (assuming they are delivered) and get out the ballots in time for them to be returned within the election time frame. Voter disenfranchisement will happen.

Voter fraud is hard to prosecute, that is why you don't see too many cases. Most localities in PA have no interest in rigging elections, but in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh there have been previous suspicious occaisions of mis-directed voting machines and the like. In Philadelphia as I recall there was a polling place that really wasn't a polling place in 2010. But you know, it all was just a big misunderstanding (wink, wink).

DB Akron, even if your allegations are true that has nothing to do with requiring voter ID. And for all we know, those incidents (if true) might have inappropriately bolstered the Republican vote count.

Repubs and greedy rich crash the economy and millions of hardworking people lose their jobs. Romney out sources jobs all over the world and collect tax breaks from it, causing millions of starving people who lost their jobs, their homes, their savings, their pensions, to go on food stamps. Ryan and Romney want to cut food stamps from starving children and families so that Romney and rich friends can get more tax breaks.....You like that JOEY...taking food from starving children after your friends took everything from them? Proud JOEY... that you whine about starving children and families wanting to eat?.......taking food from starving people....big man Joey wants to starve children and families.....

Repubs blocked giving healthcare for 911 responders for years in the meantime they all took photo ops with 911 responders wrapping themselves up in the flag. When repubs were exposed on national tv show the very next day, most repubs quit blocking and voted for it. Repubs blocking all bills that would help economy or would show President Obama in a better light. 15 Repub politicians and Fox news Pollster Frank Lutz , including Ryan , met the night President Obam took office at Caucus Room restaurant and they all pledged to vote against every bill just to make President Obama a one term president. Pledging just like Bin Laden did to take the economy down, just to make Obama a one term president. Ryan pledging against economy recovery.

I will tell you exactly how the economy has improved. In Nov 2008 the Dow was at 7,553 it is now at 13,206, in Nov 2008 the nasdaq was at 1,316 it is now at 3,067, in Nov 2008 the S&P was at 752 it is now at 1,406. The loss of wealth under Bush was staggering, not to mention the losses due to the devaluing of real-estate, the stock markets have more than doubled since Obama took over. I lost $480,000 of my retirement portfolio under Bush, since Obama took over I have gained all that back and then some. Any investor will tell you if you can double your money in four years that is a mighty, mighty fine return. Pretty impressive performance under the watch of a president who supposedly has such an adverse effect on business. You can spew your nonsense all you want German Gem, but the facts clearly dispute what you say, and my account numbers don't lie. The job loss, the real-estate crash, and the stock market crash all occurred under a republican economy. The republican economy brought this country to it's knees and since Obama took over it has gotten much better. So is that exact enough proof for you, all three markets are more than double what they were when GW Bush left the nation in shambles.

Ok German Gem you wanted some exact proof, so I gave you some very exact proof, of the stock market, the very lifeblood of our capitalist economy, then you come back again with nonsense, you can ignore those facts if you wish, but I personally have a half million more reasons in the bank to vote for Obama and his economy. BTW it happened on Bush's watch, it did not happen in one day, it was a steady decline for the last four years of his presidency, now that is just a fact, you want to call it blame, call it whatever you wish, it does not change the unfortunate fact for you, that it happened under his leadership he owns it, you can deny history and the facts if you wish, but you can't change them, and you look very foolish when you try. BTW Don't worry I will not bother to bore you with the truth or actual numbers in the future.

The accompanying table…tells a remarkably consistent story. It shows that when Democrats were in the White House, lower-income families experienced slightly faster income growth than higher-income families — which means that incomes were equalizing…

The table also shows that families at the 95th percentile fared almost as well under Republican presidents as under Democrats (1.90 percent growth per year, versus 2.12 percent), giving them little stake, economically, in election outcomes. But the stakes were enormous for the less well-to-do. Families at the 20th percentile fared much worse under Republicans than under Democrats (0.43 percent versus 2.64 percent). Eight years of growth at an annual rate of 0.43 percent increases a family’s income by just 3.5 percent, while eight years of growth at 2.64 percent raises it by 23.2 percent.

The sources of such large differences make for a slightly complicated story. In the early part of the period — say, the pre-Reagan years — the Great Partisan Growth Divide accounted for most of the Great Partisan Inequality divide, because the poor do relatively better in a high-growth economy.

Beginning with the Reagan presidency, however, growth differences are smaller and tax and transfer policies have played a larger role. We know, for example, that Republicans have typically favored large tax cuts for upper-income groups while Democrats have opposed them. In addition, Democrats have been more willing to raise the minimum wage, and Republicans have been more hostile toward unions.

It is what it is Starsailing, those are the numbers, that's what happened, and when it happened. The damage was all done by 2008 and things have improved under Obama, in-spite of the most obstinate Republican Congress in history. Personally I am thrilled, I never dreamed my portfolio would come back so strong so fast.

Barrack Obama has been the president for the last three years, and all three markets are more than doubled from where they were when he was elected, and we went from losing 500,000+ jobs a month to gaining about a 100,000 a month, (when you go from a negative 500,000 to a positive 100,000 that equals a 600% improvement), and one more bit of good news, home prices are starting to creep back up. So say it with me GG, Obama has been the president for the last 3.5 years and the economy has definitely improved.

                                  Obama is BANKRUPTING America.

The debt clock was turned off for a while. Guess which puppet regime required turning it back on.

Sure let us talk about the economy....15 repubs got together at the Caucus Room restaurant the night Obama took office and pledged to vote against every bill just to make President Obama a one term president.Pledged to take the economy down, and they used a record number of filibusters with voting against the economy. Repubs blocked health care for 911 responders, blocked lowering the interest rate on student loans, blocked taking away subsidies from big oil, blocked the bill to remove tax breaks from companies that outsourcing jobs, blocked the same bill that would give tax breaks to companies who would bring back jobs to America...........? WHY DO REPUBS HATE AMERICANS AND LOVE MONEY MORE? Repubs sign Norquist pledge over our Constitution!

Romney can see Russia from his offshore accounsts!

                                    The Ryan foreign policy plan?

Ryan can see Milwaukee from his kitchen window!

Their real foreign policy plan is the same plan from Bush/Cheney. Romney hired 17 of 24 of Bush/Cheney Foreign ploicy and economy advisors...YIKES! Why in the hell would we want to do the crash of the economy and lie to war with these people again?....Bush/Cheney/ Romney. The 3 Stooges ride again!

                                    Romney and his corporate people$$$$$$$$$

Romney Ryan tax plans...Pretty simple Kill Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and privatize for their rich friends driving up healthcare costs and trying to force you to invest in Wallstreet where Romney and Ryan will deregulate even more to take the rest of your money they didn't get the first time. Ryan Romney want to privatize the Post Office because repubs force P.O. to over fund their pension plan out 75 years just to deliberately defund P.O. This will crash service and many towns will have no service or extreme higher costs via UPS or FED EX.

Ryan Romney plans incease tax breaks for the rich and cut food stamps to starving children and families, cut benefits to Vets, and increase taxes on middle class and poor by up to $2000 to pay for their tax breaks!!!

Ryan voted for every deficit raising plan of Bush. Romney lies about his taxes saying he worked at Bain for years now caught with documents saying HE WAS, he lies saying he wasn't. Both want to end capital gains tax for the rich, many rich don't pay taxes at all due to tax loop holes they create.

Ryan and Romney both push war on women and their healthcare see www.womenarewatching.org site for info.

President Obama and Team America killed Bin Laden together. Romney said he would not go after Bin Laden because it is too expensive. Romney values money more than taking out terrorists! $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Does not make ethical sense for oil companies to be allowed to extract resources owned by US citizens (the Gulf offshore leases) and then put profits back into paying off the politicians who cave into their every whim. US taxpayers are being screwed royally by corrupt businesses and their political cronies. It's what the republican party is all about... happens in many other industries as well... and it sure ain't true democracy.

Roc.....no one minds someone being rich...it is when they use their wealth to steal other people money, like repubs and ALEC creating voter suppression laws, like....Romney cheating on his taxes and hiding money off shores...like repubs blocking bill to remove big oil subsidies when big oil said they no longer even needed them....See the pattern? WE DO! ROBMEHOOD, steal from the middle class and poor and gives to the rich!

Roc: Even you should be able to see marrying a woman that brought with her the Heinz fortune menas there's no question as to how that money was obtained. Can even you right wingers say the same of Romney? You on the right claim it's simply jealousy of Romneys money wanting him to release his returns but if that was true why wasn't Kerrys wealth an issue?

A blind trust ran by his friend/personal attorney that just happens to invest 10 million in Romneys son Taggs business even though most actual blind trusts invest very conservatively.

Not only multiple offshore accounts but creating offshore shell companies advertising to foreign investors that they can avoid U.S. taxes by investing through it.

Claiming in 1999 he was simply taking a leave of absence from his soley owned company but deciding in 2002 to "retroactively resign" back to 1999 even though he signed company documents as CEO of that company so he could claim he wasn't involved on bankrupting schemes by his company after that date.

Strange logic. The right defends Romneys right to cut top tax rates and eliminate tax exemptions that benefit the middle class, gut medicare and massively slash social programs and it's liberals engaging in class warfare? Opposing Romneys plan to rape the middle class is us promoting class warfare? In what world does that make sense? Romneys the one that thinks his 14% tax rate is too high and those babies he doesn't want aborted getting $80 a month in food stamps too much.

Not only does Romney cheat on his taxes hiding money offshore so as not to pay his taxes, Now Ryan and Romney want to eliminate capital gains taxes on themselves. Then they both have the nerve to create budget plans where they give themselves even more tax breaks for themselves and the rich. Who do they plan to have pay for their tax breaks they should be paying?? YOU< THE MIDDLE CLASS AND POOR. The seniors, the students, starving children and families, veterans, YES CUTS TO VET SERVICES. THE GREEDY ROMNEY AND RYAN. PLAN TO TAKE AWAY SOCIAL SECURITY,MEDICARE, MEDICAID, AND THE POST OFFICE!

                                            Oh no. What is it?

Oh that. Yes, they need to back off about abortion. I'm pro choice but it wouldn't change my vote. (Its all about the economy for me) However, it will change alot of other peoples' votes. Romney was pretty quick to throw that guy running for senator under the bus for that stupid comment he made about rape, so hopefully he gets these other pro lifers in line.

Romney should just pull an obama and lie about it lol

seriously though, it would be a huge mistake to take a staunch pro life stance on abortion. let us pray, cross my fingers, etc. etc. lol

They need a moderate stance to keep everybody on board, and then lets get back to the economy!
