Subscribe to RSSNBC News' Chuck Todd suggests the outrage generated from Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin's comments could cost Republicans control of the U.S. Senate. Negative feelings toward the Republican Party have weighed down Mitt Romney, Todd adds, much as the economy has weighed down President Obama.
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney called on Rep. Todd Akin (R) to end his bid for Senate in Missouri.
"As I said yesterday, Todd Akin's comments were offensive and wrong and he should very seriously consider what course would be in the best interest of our country," Romney said in a statement. "Today, his fellow Missourians urged him to step aside, and I think he should accept their counsel and exit the Senate race."
Akin could end his campaign without much difficulty before 5 p.m. CST on Tuesday; if he were to press forward with his candidacy, he could still withdraw by Sept. 25, but would have to ask a court to remove his name from the ballot, and would have to pay the costs associated with reprinting ballots. In either case, the Missouri GOP would pick a new candidate.
The six-term congressman has weathered growing clamor to end his candidacy since saying this weekend that "legitimate rape" rarely leads to pregnancy. He is trying to unseat incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) this fall in a race critical to Republicans' hopes of retaking control of the Senate.

What Romney Really Wants to Say:
Akin... Cmon, You know I feel the same way you do, so does the entire GOP. However, I am already behind in the polls with women and this is a silent war on them until after the election. You have to drop out, you could cost me a fortune and I am on track to be the first CEO of the US.

At this point Akin has no chance of winning and should step aside for the good of the party. With another candidate in is place the Republicans have a chance of picking up McCaskill's seat, with Akin in the race the Democrats are virtually guaranteed the win. By staying in the race Akin is proving that he does not care about anyone or anything other than himself. If he really cared about his constituents and the rest of the country he would step aside and give the Republicans a chance to get McCaskill out of office.
Because Paulie Ryan agrees 100% with Akin.
So, Paul Ryan, can you tell us if you agree with Akin's statements?
If not, do you agree with the Akin on the bill you're co-sponsoring with him in try to make illegal abortions in the case of incest, grooming, or date rape?

Paul Ryan & Akin cosponsored the abortion bill that would ban federal funding for abortion—from all cases of rape to cases of "forcible rape," which is parallel to GOP Anti-Abortion Language in the Party Platform. In fact, Ryan requires women to have Transvaginal Ultrasound before an abortion. This is not news, this attitude has been within the GOP party vs. abortion. The problem with Romney/Ryan trying to distance themselves from Akin is that they both have to lie in order to do so.
Ryan was a co-sponsor of the "personhood" amendment bill that would amend the Constitution to grant full "personhood" to a fetus at the moment of conception. This would outlaw all abortin regardless of the reason and would also eliminate most forms of contraception and in vitro fertility treatments.
Romney signed the "personhood" pledge which reads:

I _________________— proclaim that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God, and is endowed by our Creator with the unalienable right to life. Both Romney and Ryan have endorsed the draft "personhood" plank in the GOP platform that similarly advocates "personhood" from the moment of conception and gives an unborn child priority over the mother if the mother's life is at risk.
So I guess Romney/Ryan only believe in "personhood" if it will get them a vote and will quickly swap positions to oppose it if it appears that the public might not vote for them. The old-fashioned name for such rationalization is flip-flopping.

Well, I certainly wouldnt agree with that. I am pro choice myself. But I do not vote on one issue. Abortion wont be banned, ever, in my opinion. This is a talking point of the right in order to make the religious constituents happy.

Romney is right to call on Akin to withdraw from the race. This election is the most important one for the nation in our history.

The survey also finds that while Americans place the need to reduce the deficit as a top priority, most would NOT favor entitlement cuts as a way of balancing the budget. Asked which was more important, 51% of respondents said maintaining current Social Security and Medicare benefits, while 33% said taking steps to reduce the deficit. Eleven percent said the two were equally important.

I wonder if Romney is going to ask his running mate to get lost also since he, Ryan, co wrote a bill with Akin that deals with abortion of any kind. The republican platform has had a number of times in it words relating to abortion fo any kind..they are against it for any reason. If you think not...read some of the items Ryan has writen that are hios own beliefs.

Hey JC in G, its HR3, 112th Congress, first session, sponsered by Akin and PAUL RYAN, try reading it, it specifies "forcible rape" as if there is any other kind. The word "forcible" is an obvious ploy to imply that some rapes are not forcible, all rapes are forcible so saying forcible rape is like saying wet water. However, using this language could give a "social conservative" an out, they could simply state that there was no signs of a struggle, therefore not forcible, therefore no abortion. So, if a woman doesn't try to defend herself (imagine a small woman, large crazy man) in fear that she might be beaten within an inch of her life or murdered, the act could easily be categorized as "non-forcible" and she would not be eligible for an abortion. You really should try to research things before you post.

The part of the bill that revolved around definition was the word "forcible". It was intended to exclude the teens who might try to test the statutory rape loophole in order to get fed funding by falsely claiming it was. That "forcible" wording was removed after a ton of backlash. The GOP Bill was trying to remove any funding with their "ALL abortions are evil" theme.
Akin's belief is the body won't allow pregnancy from a rape so if a rape victim gets pregnant, she must've wanted the event so why should the taxpayer suffer for it and pay for her abortion.
So it's ok for Obama and his cronies and the supreme court to change terminology (ACA PENALTY), but not the GOP? Hippocrisy everywhere. Why would he issue this executive order if he wasn't planning to use it?

Akin will resign his nomination today before the 5pm Central Daylight Time deadline. Romney will offer him a sop, ie. some office or role in his administration, and Akin, to save face, will go.
But the problem genie is already out of the lamp...Ryan will have to answer at least two questions about this topic during his debate with Biden. So Akin's damage to the Republican ticket will continue long after he has exited the race.
