CARNIEGE, Pa. -- At a steel manufacturer in Western Pennsylvania Tuesday, Congressman Paul Ryan took some swipes at President Obama, serving up red meat on guns and religion and even Joe the Plumber and "spread the wealth."
“Hey, I’m a Catholic deer-hunter," Ryan said at Beaver Steel just outside Pittsburgh. "I am happy to be clinging to my guns and my religion."
The comments the presumptive GOP vice-presidential nominee made referenced remarks Obama made on the campaign trail back in 2008.
“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said then speaking at a San Francisco fundraiser four year ago. "And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate, and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Making his debut in the Keystone State today, Ryan -- an avid Green Bay Packers fan -- came out waving a Pittsburgh Steelers' "Terrible Towel” as he entered the venue with more than 2,000 people in attendance and proclaimed his passion for football.
“Wow. You know, these things are intimidating on TV,” Ryan admitted about the gold towel he then placed in his back pocket.
Steelers owner Dan Rooney, by the way, is currently serving as President Obama's ambassador to Ireland.
Speaking in front of a large “We did build IT!” sign, the seven-term congressman also gave the crowd another 2008 flashback, telling the crowd about Joe the Plumber.
“You know, every now and then President Obama sort of drops his veil," Ryan said. "He’s less coy about his philosophy. He sort of reveals his true governing policy, what he really believes. Remember back in 2008, remember the guy Joe the Plumber? Remember when he said, you know, ‘We wanna spread the wealth around’? It’s this belief that the economy is some fixed pie, that there’s only just so much money in America, it’s fixed, and that the job of the government is to redistribute the slices of the pie. That’s not true.”
These lines from Ryan on President Obama’s 2008 campaign are new to the congressman’s stump speech.

I figured I'd travel to the MSM and entertain myself with the biased news, no less the commentary. K. That's about all. I think I'm going to puke. I've never seen so many people willing to sell out their country over social liberties. For every social liberty that is given from Obama, et. al., there is an infringement on our freedom from another angle. It is always about the rich not paying enough. I say it should be about the poor paying too much. It is about stealing the hard-earned dollars of others and giving it to others. I watched as Chavez was elected in Venezuela and how he pandered to the masses, selling out on integrity and a principled approach with a population dumb enough to believe him, he was elected. To see Obama doing the same in 2008 was shameful to our nation. To see the media roll-over is even more shameful and it goes against everything our country is supposed to stand for. America should be ashamed of itself to succumb to such pandering.
Well, I see the paid posters and sock puppets working for Obwan are out in force here. No use for us freedom loving folks to stick around.
Google: Frank Marshall Davis get educated on Barack Obama the Marxist. For 20 years Barack sat and listened to an admitted Marxist as his mentor. This is now being played out on American. David Axelrod is also a red diaper baby.
What is a red diaper baby? get educated and Google the term.
Obama is going to lose as the polls easily off 10%. American cares not about mainstream media opinions or polls. American will speak and send his arse packing. Goodbye Valerie, Obie, and Michelle. So will America be racist again if we don't re-elect this president. '
Obama is the greatest threat this country has seen since Hitler, Mao and the Soviet Union. He is a Marxist and those of you who support his platform, really do not have a clue of what this nation has been fighting since the early 1900's when progressives formed into the communist party. All the same, socialists, Marxists, progressives, what ever you want to call them, they are the scum that lies on top of the water. Gone in November!!!
Yeah TDQB1 like you have something important to say? Is that why Obama is begging and whining for money because he is an incumbent president being out spent, first time in history, now three months running? His ass is grass! His lead is not much minimal for a sitting president and guess what" Jobs took another turn on a downward trend! He is a worthless "bla bla bla" to quote your worthless, mindless rant! To quote his pleading for money ad's, "We can still lose this." I say make it so!
Ryan is a big wussy, he probably had his bodyguards fight his schoolyard fights growing up. I would bet most the women in this country could outshoot him with an M16 after one hour of training. However if he wants to follow Sharon Angle of Nevada repubs and intimidate voters with his gun toting, let's let the repubs secede from the USA peacefully, they can have some swamp land in the south and dry frozen tundra in the midwest bible belt. If they want to stay in the rest of the country instead of going to their new place of Repubsylvania, then they need visas to stay. We can call Herman Cain to put up that electrified fence to keep him and his buddies on that side too.
One only needs to review the past four years of republican congressmen and senators to arrive at the unavoidable conclusion that the cause of the constant sequence of legislative impasses that have been plaguing both the House and the Senate during the Obama administration--and especially since the 2010 congressional elections--must be laid directly at the feet of the Republican party.
This conclusion should not come as a great surprise to anyone who has been following politics for at least the last couple of years. Senate minority leader, republican Mitch McConnell, clearly stated the GOP goal at least until the 2012 elections: to make sure that Obama would be a one-term president! There was no mention of solving the country's serious economic and social problems. To cooperate in any way with Obama or the Democrats might result in credit being given to Obama. Instead, the Republican strategy has consistently been to block any legislation that would be beneficial to the country or its citizens. Ironically, this strategy has required the GOP to oppose ideas that they themselves have endorsed and initiated in the recent past. Since the Republicans are in a slight minority in the Senate, they have resorted to that antiquated tool, the filibuster, to block every serious piece of legislation, including popular proposals that have the approval of the majority.
The GOP obstruction effort has been even easier in the House of Representatives. Since 2010, when intransigent Tea Party fanatics were elected and invaded the institution, the Republicans have held a substantial majority. They have used that majority to block virtually every piece of substantive or helpful legislation, while fostering endless bills addressing their extreme views on social issues. While driving the nation to the brink of default on our national debt, resulting in a lowering of our credit rating for the first time in history, they have introduced endless bills to abolish abortion rights and overthrow Obama's signature health care legislation, the Affordable Care Act.
The current crop of Republicans are people who have little understanding of how government functions, who have no respect for the needs of the broader spectrum of their ethnically diverse fellow citizens, and who are
extremely intolerant of anyone who disagrees, however slightly, with their inane politics and long-nurtured hatred of everything that is not white, evangelically religious, and ready to kill for a cause, however ignoble and partisan.
Wonder does Joe the Plumber has to show his tax returns when he applies for a mortgage loan? Willard show those tax returns. Ryan suppot your friend Atkin.
I DO NOT recall reading the BIBLE and GUNS were part of GODS PEACE ON EARTH.
What BOOK has RUINOUS RYAN and all HIS SCUMBAGS been reading? Sounds more like BLACK MAGIC DEVIL READINGS, DESTROYER and OBSTRUCTION books to my knowledge.
Are these IN-HUMAN SPECIES of UNKNOWN for REAL??? Folks WAKE UP. YOU as AMERICANS are not falling for this CAPITAL COMMUNISM IDEOLOGY I hope. If you are you are the most imbecile Individual on this EARTH. Another IN-HUMAN SPECIES.
They are ALL TWO FACED & FORKED TONGUE. This is the DEVILS WORK. And it does not belong with the HONEST and INNOCENT SOCIETY of AMERICA. This is not representative of this LAND.
This whole Domination theme of the Republican party - from the chest beating of Ryan the 'hunter' to attacking women, parsing out definitions of rape (hey, if it was a date rape drug, you probably weren't even conscious, no harm, no fowl - get to the back of the line, there are real, legitimate rapes here to contend with . . .) to planning legislation that will leave the middle class impotent. One has to think the link between their obsession with rape, domination and creating a top down tier of corporate governance over democracy is the whole agenda. Greed breeds greed and the rich need more, more more. The hungry spirits that will never be satiated, just dreaming up more strategy to dominate.
I'm not sure about this whole thing. Really, guns and religion are what he clings to?? Well, isn't that just great. We could end up with a religious nutjob with a nuke at his disposal. Anybody see a problem with that logic? And for the record I own guns not opposed to hunting and have no problem with him saying he hunts. But, I do have a problem when he uses it as part of a campaign speech when this country has bigger issues then his hunting credentials.
Four of the Scariest Republicans on the
Ballot in 2012: Go fetch em Dawg we need better??
Ivy League-educated lawyer. So how do you make a member of the “elite”
palatable to the Tea Partiers? As Sarah Palin told a rally of Cruz supporters,
“Ted is not going to D.C. to make nice with the frou-frou, chichi cocktail
crowd.” Cruz rejects academic thought on the stump; instead he focuses on imaginary conspiracies that involve the World Bank and the UN.
When he won his primary, George F. Will nearly had a George F. Willgasm,
praising it as a victory for the “Madisonian.” Will neglected the fact that
James Madison was the man who led the effort to pass the Virginia Statute for
Religious Freedom, written by Thomas Jefferson. Ted Cruz on the other hand
authored the Supreme Court brief that preserved the words “under God” in the
Pledge of Allegiance. Reconciling the fundamentalism of tea partiers like Cruz
with the Founders is nearly impossible, which is why David Barton, a historian
who specializes in that speciousness, just had his book on Jefferson pulled
from the shelf.
all the usual extreme right wing credentials, including traces of birtherism.
What makes Walberg expecially scary isn’t his own agenda, it’s the agenda of
the group that’s most responsible for getting him into power: the Club for
Growth, a private committee of bankers and financiers mostly based in New York.
The “Club” helped Walberg defeat a moderate Republican in his primary. They look
at Paul Ryan’s plan to gut government services and consider it too far left.
The Club for Growth takes Grover Norquist’s taxpayer pledge a step further;
they ceaselessly push to eliminate government services in exchange for more tax
cuts for the richest, despite the lowest tax burden in generations. Special
interests like the Club for Growth are the reason that Republicans as a whole
have served the extremes. One wrong vote and they could face an extremely well funded challenger from their own party, chosen by the Club
Iowa’s Fifth Congressional District, King may even produce more horrifying
statements than better-known colleagues like Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Allen
West (R-FL) combined. He was the sole member of Congress willing to go on
record to voice what countless xenophobes across America were likely thinking
in 2008: “When you think about the optics of a Barack Obama potentially getting
elected President of the United States — I mean, what does this look like to
the rest of the world?” King asked. “What does it look like to the world of
Islam? I will tell you that, if he is elected president, then the radical
Islamists, the al-Qaida, the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be
dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11 because
they will declare victory in this War on Terror. “ King led the effort to
replace the judges who voted to legalize gay marriage in Iowa and is a
consistent voice for what he imagines is the most persecuted group in America:
straight white males. That’s probably why was one of the few Republicans to
voice support for Todd Akin as he echoed many of the statements that got the candidate from Missouri in so much trouble. What’s the scariest thing about Steve King? He claims
that if Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are elected he’ll have the vice-president’s
ear. “Paul listens to me,” King recently said. Which leads us to…
District and soon-to-be GOP nominee for vice president so scary is how
presentable and benign he seems to be. He’s expert in using appearances to cloak
his intentions. Ryan has presented a plan to cut the deficit that grows the
deficit. A plan to “save” Medicare that will end Medicare as we know it. And
huge cuts to the federal government that will cut almost every domestic program
out of existence by 2050 while growing the military exponentially. Before
Ryan’s Budget, these ideas would have been laughed out of the Capitol. But at a
time when we need government the most and government can borrow money at almost
no cost, he’s paired austerity with trickle-down economics. This is a pairing
that could turn this jobs crisis into a depression in just months, should Ryan
ever have the chance to actually implement it. And with Grover Norquist
imagining Paul Ryan as economic “Cheney,” that disaster could be only one
election away.
bull-kaka , palin is funnier than hell , you repugs ought to put her on tv more , cheney is a war criminal , along with dubya , .
Joe "the stupid plumer"? Good Grief.
Joe asked a question. Please defend the answer. But you deflect by going after the messenger. Defend the answer!
Ryan should try clinging to reason and progress.
OBAMA 2012...because intelligence matters.
Maybe guns ARE his religion!
Mr. Ryan, we are extremely confused. You are Catholic - I am Catholic; there are millions of Catholics in the US. Where exactly do the teachings of our faith talk about guns??? I suspect you're probably talking about the 2nd Amendment; I also know that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops support greater gun control laws in the US.
Sorry Paul, you can't have it both ways. There is no gray area in our beliefs. You'd be better served to leave Catholicism and join the Evangelicals who you seem to be pandering to anyway. Their ideas about Christianity are radically opposed to Catholicism on far too many issues of faith and morals.
Good luck Mr. Ryan, you're going to need it.
Ahh, ever consider the fact that maybe, just maybe...he's been sleeping during the Sunday sermons??? Yeah, bet you never thought of that, did you.
Like it or hate it, the facts are the facts: IRS website = the top 25% wage earners pay 86% of all taxes. Go to the Internal Revenue Service web site an see for yourself.
Congressional Budget Office reports today that for the 4th year in a row, we again have a 1.1 trillion debt for 2012 added to our debt.
I dont think people are getting these debt numbers. It needs to be broken down and stated another way: Every man, woman and child in this country now owes over $400,000.00 in tax debt.
Fact: Obama has hired an additional 16,500 IRS agents. And why? Just guess.
jim allen , remember how we got here , 2 wars unpaid for , medicare part d , tax breaks for the rich , when dubya left we were 5 trillion in debt , who saved us ,,,,, PRESIDENT OBAMA !!!!!
Paul"bugsy "Ryan ,I'm a catholic deer hunter and I cling to my guns.Paul "I can't tell the truth"Ryan is a fraud and his little bullet point campaign speech is more evidence, this guy is no more of a substantive guy ,than his running mate,Mitt" Etch-a-Sketch" Wrongme.Pauly what about your ideas on rape,is it forcible ,legitimate ,fake, she ask for it,just where did you and your party get this science, that it is so believe able? The science of Global Climate Change is JUNK science, but your womens science is credible. That great Liberal JOE Scare-bough said it best, Y'all look and talk STUPID......
an avid Green Bay Packers fan -- came out waving a Pittsburgh Steelers' "Terrible Towel” as he entered the venue with more than 2,000 people in attendance and proclaimed his passion for football
He besmirched the Terrible Towel - freaking Cheesehead.
ryan ,,,,, let's talk about hr.3 , all the republicans signed it , why not talk about it !!!
so we all know what a great marketing tool Joe The Plumber was for McCain. Not sure his name was even Joe but he was not a plumber, just a marketing campaign tool, and what a tool he was!
DEfend the answer. If you continue to attack the messenger then you can't defend the answer. Is Obama for redistribution of wealth?
When you look at the Romney-Ryan audiences they are practically all white. This was true during the Republican primary battles, yet it doesn't seem to bother them at all. This signals to us that people of color do not matter to the GOP. This is done to maintain their base, especially among WM. As I continue to say, racism, not the controversies about abortion and gay rights is the biggest sin in America, but evangelicals will not tackle this sin for obvious reasons. Therefore, the church will continue to diminish its influence by not attending to this sin and not really having a platform to help the poor, our seniors, k-12 and higher ed.(student loans--Romney stated for college students to "shop around" and "ask your parents for aid"-Wow, how creative-This man is cold and doesn't care at all), etc. Advancing God's Kingdom is much more that just railing against abortion and gay rights, but unfortunately this is how the world and too many of us(Christians) are very narrow as to what issues we will and will not advocate. Where are our national Christian leaders that God has given favor and influence to stand up against these other issues which by the way God cares about from His Word!!! I really don't understand how bona fide Christians can go to God's church every Sunday, shouting Praise the Lord, leave worship services and then hate others; I John 2:9-11 We need to look at how Christ related to sinners; love the sinner, hate the sin. For as Christians, aren't we still sinners saved by grace for those who accept him as Lord and Savior; John 3:16.
Now throw out racism. That is your defense.
