The official platform language poised for approval at next week's Republican National Convention doesn't fully represent the party's presumptive presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said Tuesday.
On the heels of Rep. Todd Akin's incendiary remarks on rape, NBC News has confirmed that next week's Republican National Convention platform could include calls for the "Human Life Amendment," which would outlaw abortion in all circumstances, even in cases of rape or incest. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus discusses.
Republicans are gathered this week in Tampa to draft official platform language, and potential language calling for the adoption of a constitutional amendment to curb abortion rights has drawn newfound scrutiny.
The RNC's platform committee is set to vote Tuesday evening on draft language related to abortion, which calls for "a human life amendment to the Constitution," along with "legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus unveils the stage for the upcoming Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida August 20, 2012.
"I think as far as the details of some of these things, like an exception for rape or life of the mother, these are not uncommon differences that candidates have and don't share some of the detail on some of those exceptions," Priebus said on MSNBC. "This is the platform of the Republican Party; it's not the platform of Mitt Romney."
The party adopted identical language in its 2004 and 2008 platforms, which doesn't talk about exceptions or granular details, but also doesn't specifically stipulate an exception to bans on abortion in cases of rape, incest, or the health of the mother.
The RNC platform has invited renewed scrutiny because of an uproar this week over comments made by Rep. Todd Akin, the GOP candidate for Senate in Missouri, in defense of his opposition to abortion in instances of rape. He said that "legitimate rape" rarely results in pregnancy, a statement for which he's since apologized and said was factually incorrect.
(The Romney campaign said in its statement Sunday disagreeing with Akin that the former Massachusetts governor would not oppose abortion in instances of rape.)
Republicans are especially sensitive, though, to the revived debate over abortion in part due to the fact that President Barack Obama holds a healthy lead over Romney among women voters.
"Although these particular comments have led Gov. Romney and other Republicans to distance themselves," Obama said of Akin's comments during a press conference on Monday, "I think the underlying notion that we should be making decisions on behalf of women for their health care decisions -- or qualifying forcible rape versus non-forcible rape -- I think those are broader issues, and that is a significant difference in approach between me and the other party."
The Obama campaign also launched a TV ad making issue of presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's voting record in Congress, which called for stripping funding for Planned Parenthood, and other efforts to curb abortion rights.
"I don't really buy the fact that a pro-abortion stance means that you're pro-women," Priebus said in his MSNBC appearance. "I think the pro-life position is a positive for us with women, not a negative."
Republicans could still change the draft language before tonight's platform committee vote; the full convention is slated to vote on the platform on Monday.

Say WHAT?
If the GNOP is NOT the platform of Willard, what ticket is he running on again..?
Now they're distancing themselves from their own brand? lmao
Man oh man... what a train wreck!
I can't wait to see new poll numbers on women voters after this week of hoof & mouth disease from the GNOP!
*popcorn*?
Time to throw Eddie Munster from the train!
This is the 21st Century Republican version of The Wizard of Oz. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. I'm looking at you, Paul. It's your ideas and policies they want to hide. Mitt doesn't have a clue what his are.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
No kidding Jonny!
When I see this kind of thing, I feel like I woke up in some alternate BIZARRO world!
WTF is this, Wheel of Fortune? Come on down and spin the wheel to see what's behind door #1, #2 or #3.
So Mellissa, your from Texas and what are you hopin' to win.?
Why shucks Bob ... anything, but a probe would be real good. Hear it works on cattle too.
What a lie by Preibus and Romney. Romney is seeming tolerant to "some" abortion just to get votes. Once he is in, Roe v. Wade is gone. Planned parenthood is gone. Women become 2nd class citizens much like African-Americans are becoming thanks to voter suppression, also put forward by GOP. Wake up America. They are stealing your votes. Staying home is a vote for these nut cases. I'm not 100% happy with the President either. I want Medicare for all as a tax on everyone. But our President is 100% better than a sexist tax dodger, animal abuser, and greedy outsourcer of jobs, Mitt Romney.
That was Let's Make A Deal...but it still applies.
Sorry for the double-post. I was adding a couple of sentences, and it must have already posted. Oh well, I guess I pulled a Mitt. (def: to mess something up that was o.k.) And you're right, Feisty! I had an entire post on Republican Bizarro world a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea that they could take it to an entire new level of bizarre!
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
As they sit at their desks they will be trying to re-write the entire constitution of the U.S.
Of course they will leave the right to own guns, but most everything else would have to go.
The GNOP is back-peddling as fast as possible to save face. The trouble for them is that we know what their agenda is. Supress the rights of women, minorities and put an end to any/all restrictions on business.
I so hate to disagree with you Ana, but Mittens did run on 2002 for governor stating he would protect pro-choice. THAT being said (and it was difficult for me to type!) I'm not surprised the GOP and Romney disagree. Ryan's politics are going to take over that little ticket and Mitt is going to become more of a plastic Ken doll than he already is. This convention is going to be FUN to watch as the GOP implodes!
4 more for 44!
Jonny ... good one! Obama 2012/Romney 1040
Let's remember all this crazy talk is coming from a GOP cult that thinks that life begins at erection.
All I can say is that these people are unhinged. It seems that the GOP has become a chapter out of a weird Curt vonnigut book.
NitMitt/ Zygote 2012
Maybe we'd respect you guys a little more if you'd stop trying to have everything both ways.
The republican party and consequently the Romney campaign is dazed and confused.
I can see why Missouri is called the "Show Me" state, Akin sure showed the nation more than republicans wanted him to.
Huh! Go figure. They were never truly comfortable with the guy anyway. Almost sounds to me like Mitt's own party is setting him up for failure. Like maybe, come the convention, they'll nominate someone else. Like Ryan maybe?
*Shudder*
Then stop acting like you belong to one.
Funny how the right claims that they are pro-life....... but wants to deny health care to women and children.
BTW:
Republicans/ Tea Baggers call themselves 'Christian', yet how they treat people is completely opposite what Jesus has taught. They are the supreme hypocrites, the Pharisees of our generation, they only have one road to go to, and that road goes to HELL.
Drop it
We liberals aren't planning on changing our vote. We are positively gleefull that Republicans are about to give us the best possible campaign issue ever. Contrary to what Mr. Preibus thinks, telling a woman she is too stupid to control her own body is not the way to win our vote.
Ana, I couldn't have said it any better. We need to tell these nuances, the totalitarian dark ages that Mitt, Ryan & co. wants to take us back, to the women in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Virginia and Wisconsin. Look at the women (>55 years) crowd in North Florida that came in for Paul Ryan's rallies and listened to him while he was saying out right lies about Obama's Healthcare plan, specifically the Medicare. It is becoming very clear that this republican tea party is all controlled by fanatical white men. For the love of this country, I can't understand how any women would vote for this ticket?
If the GOP Platform doesn't have anything to do with Mitt Romney, then why are they using the GOP Presidential Nominating Convention to do this?
This is more underhanded crap coming from the GOP where, before the election they say no this is NOT what he's about, and then if anyone is sucker enough to vote the phoney into office, they'll say "You knew what you were getting because it's all in the Republican Platform".
Anybody who falls for this baloney, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'll like to sell you.

"Why as a Liberal are you so concerned as to what the Republican platform will be"
Because contrary to the silly comments you constantly hear from many on this blog that welfare is what fires up democratic support, welfare does not fire up democratic support republican ineptitude and failed policies is what fires them up.
The Republicans want to eliminate abortions -PERIOD. But why don't the Republicans worry about the children that are already born: health insurace, education, etc.
Gov. Bobby Jindal says his state won’t take the Medicaid money, and with 43% of the state’s kids already receiving Medicaid
Nearly four in ten Alabama children are already on Medicaid and 9% have no insurance at all.
Arizona has one of the highest rates of the uninsured – 15% of its children, with 36 percent currently on Medicaid.
Another hypocrite, Gov. Rick Scott of FL has said his state won’t take the Medicaid funds, but Florida has an even higher rate of lack of insurance than Arizona: 16% kids, and 32% on Medicaid. This is the guy that pays about $300 per year for his FAMILY health insurance.
17% of kids in TX don't have insurance at all, 37% receive Medicaid. And just 4 in 10 are covered by a parent’s employer.
So how about Rebuclicans start worrying about the kids that are ALIVE today instead of worrying about what degree of rape is rape.
Akin speaks for the republican party and Romney speaks for his ego. Mitt will say whatever he thinks works at any given hour, and Akin speaks for the RWNJ's that make up their party. They will clash often in this election cycle. Akin will stay in, and we will hear his name as much as Joe not a plumber.
This is a party that cares about the viewpoints of rich white men. Women and minorities need not apply.

Women can now get into a rich man's GOLF CLUB (if they are 'pedigreed' women !) but they must ACCEPT A PREGNANCY if THEY ARE RAPED.
The GOP/Tea Bangers care more for sperm than the children we already have.....Once embryos become babies, they lose all interest.
Just have a look at the overcrowded prisons, homeless shelters and foster homes...and you will see plenty of unwanted children and adults who were once unwanted as children.

Well if two guys agree to rape a woman will it be called consensual sex. Important issues my man.
So, Romney immediately after picking Ryan worked to distance himself from Ryan's budget plan, now the GOP is distancing itself from its own presidential candidate and the GOP hopeful, Mitt Romney says we'll get a chance to see what his real plans are for the country after the elections while in the mean time he's still trying to figure out where he stands on anything!!
The convention next week could be very entertaining especially if the 'Ron Paul Revolution' folks get a good night's sleep and get wired up on lots of coffee in the morning. Heck the whole thing could get turned upside down as the GOP could end up nominating Howdy Doody as their candidate and he would probably do better against Obama than anyone else the GOP has to offer. At least we all understood what Howdy Doody stood for he was into having strings attached to everything.

Low, that's a lie and you know it. This is NOT our first time watching a Republican Convention, and it's routine that whoever the Republican Nominee is, he'd better fall in line with the Republican Platform or risk NOT getting the GOP nod. You must have forgotten that Republicans have had this ongoing War Against Women going on since Roe v. Wade, and it's practically required that any GOP Candidate be "pro-life", and the whole world knows that!
Who do you think you're fooling?
That would be a strong "hell no" on whether I would change my vote from Obama to Romney, no way.
As far as being "concerned" as to what the Republican platform will be, we as Americans have a right to be concerned about anything and everything having to do with our government, especially if any group of people is scheming to change the American way of life for everybody. If Republicans had been as concerned about what the 9/11 Terrorists were plotting, we might have NOT been hit.
If it was only about yourselves, no, I wouldn't care. But Republicans are trying to plan how EVERYBODY should live, so we had better keep our eyes and ears open and know what the GOP schemes are.

Hey how come the party that wants people to show their papers, don't demand that Romney show his.
Who would vote for a guy that wants to take take charge of nations business, but tells you his personal details are none of your business.
They had a lot of success running on jobs, jobs, jobs, but since then the only thing they have focused on is women's vaginas, do they think they are going to find a lot of jobs in there?
Maybe they could get the rights to use the title "The Vagina Monologues" to sum up their platform.
This is Great! I'm stealing it to.
Here you go gang. A re-post, but please add to it! Let the world see Republican crazy at work.
Welcome to the Republican version of Bizarro world.
It's a strange world that makes absolutely no sense. A world where:
There are varying degrees of rape and some=okay
Tax increases on the wealthy=class warfare
Cutting services for the middle class & poor=fiscal responsibility
Raising taxes on the middle class & poor=paying their fair share
Slashing tax rates for the wealthy=more tax revenue
Gutting the federal government=building a better nation
Vaporizing a budget surplus by voting for two unfunded wars, Medicare Part D, and Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy=a fiscal budget hawk
A Presidential candidate releasing partial taxes for two years=transparency
The VP pick is so toxic in Florida=he can't campaign there
The party platform=not the Presidential candidate's beliefs
Seriously. This is the bizarro world the Republican/Tea Party inhabits, and they want the rest of us to live in it.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040

I don't get it. What's wrong with a candidate disagreeing with the official party platform on a few points?
Personally, I want leaders that can think for themselves - not just party lemmings. (and no, I don't think Obama is a party lemming either)
Todd Akin knows a lawyer that can get your rape charge reduced to tailgating.

As a liberal/Democrat who also occasionally votes across party lines, YES, I do think its pretty important to know and care what the GOP National Party Platform contains as well as each state GOP party Platform it makes for a much easier process when candidates are running for office and you can simply ask them 'Do you fully support your party's state or national platform and if there are portions you have issues with, which portions and why?'
Of course over the past decade or so I've found that question gets less and less of a straightforward answer from GOP candidates as they try to skirt around various issues.
Apparently the 'unwritten' plank in the GOP platform which they all understand full well is 'Admit to nothing, stand for and against anything and everything, take a firm stance until it doesn't poll well and then switch positions whenever its politically advantageous and pretend to old position never existed or the you 'used the wrong words, the wrong way'.

Is that why Romney and Ryan base their "plan" on proven flawed economic principles? Because it's all about the economy?
Ryan is so weak as a candidate he has to bring his mom with him, unless you are twelve years old and are applying for a paper route you should not have to use your mom as a job reference.
Sorry you don't like being referred to as a cult, I am sure tax dodgers don't like being referred to as tax dodgers, and murderers don't like being referred to as murderers, and the village idiot doesn't like being referred to as the village idiot, but unfortunately the description fits. the GOP is a cult, just because the GOP say they comprise the "majority" of Americans, doesn't make it so, just makes it more evident that the GOP is a CULT. Looking at the GOP platform this morning, it appears to be the Ryan Plan as far as abortion goes. If you start having morning sickness, see your Dr. and he/she says congratulations you are pregnant. From that point in time NOTHING can stop that baby being born. That includes a miscarriage. You, the Mother, must have done SOMETHING to cause that miscarriage.
DropItLow - your quote, "BTW: Why as a Liberal are you so concerned as to what the Republican platform will be? Are any of you planning on changing your vote?"
And the liberal response is: We recognize the importance of our Constitutionally protected voting rights and understand that an informed vote is a good vote.
We don't take our voting rights for granted nor do we blindly act like low-information voter lemmings and "sit down, shut up, and vote as we are told." We question authority the same as our Forefathers questioned English rule over the colonies, Jefferson questioning the power of the Church, Madison questioning the tyranny of the majority, etc. We exercise our right to vote as informed citizens specifically because we are free.
This right and our votes have consequences. We accept this, and as such attempt to make the consequences as good for ALL US citizens as possible. This requires we be informed as to who stands for what, who stands for nothing, and what they (and their party) intend if they are elected.
Well now that explains it...

That is exactly why Obama will be re-elected because abortion and trying to muck up Roe V Wade is all that republicans have focused on since taking the house. They have far more plans, suggestions, and legislation for a women's uterus than economic ideas.
Layton -
You are correct that Romney ran in 2002 on a pro-choice platform. Once elected, he quickly changed in tune.
Mitt Romney's Stance(s) on Abortion
Campaign, 2002: Romney's platform - "As Governor, Mitt Romney would protect the current pro-choice status quo in Massachusetts. No law would change. The choice to have an abortion is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not the government's."
as Governor, July 2005: Romney criticized Roe v. Wade in a veto message in rejecting a bill mandating access to emergency contraception (after rape).
In February 2006, while preparing for a presidential run, Romney stated that his views on abortion had "evolved" and "changed" since 2002 such that he then considered himself a "pro-life governor" who wishes "the laws of our nation could reflect that view".
2012: Official Position - Romney is now adamantly opposed to abortions, unless it involves cases of rape, incest or if the mother’s life is in mortal danger.
Stay tuned for further updates.......
For as long as I can remember, ever since Roe v. Wade was upheld by the United States Supreme Court, Republicans have forced each and every one of their Republican Presidential Candidates to declare themselves to be "prolife" BEFORE they can even get the Republican Nomination, including Mitt Romney!
Obama/Biden 2012
No surprise. Republicans are all starting to scramble and redefine themselves so they don't look like a bunch of extremists.

Surprise Mitt is speaking out of his neck again:
If we get the [Senate] majority and the White House, we have got to pass a budget that sets up the structure, through reconciliation, to repeal Obamacare by killing the mandate,” Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) told the conservative National Review last week. He also wants to “totally redo our tax code,” put “Medicare on a sustainable course,” and “deal with Social Security.” But should Republicans win then stumble, “it’d be betrayal to our country.”
“We need to do it in the first 100 days,” DeMint says. “[Mitt] Romney has told me, face to face, that he knows that he needs to get these things done right away. He is looking at this as a one-term proposition.”

What is clear is the GOP cares very little about women and little children. They want to bring children in the world; but want to do deny them the basics i.e. food, clothing, shelter, education, etc.
That's because "once they're out of the womb all bets are off!"

The American people support women's reproductive rights and all of this bickering within the Republican Party on abortion is only serving to alienate more voters from their hateful and unpopular cause. The GOP is self-destructing.

Romneys position changes every week or twice a week depending on the Flack that the last position created. Mitt says that Ryan's Financial plan is not hsi plan but that is probably true since he doesn't seem to have a plan.
What is Mitts plan to release his Tax records? Releasing a Return from one selected year doesn't prove anything. What is in his Foreign Accounts and why does he have them? The only reason for having foreign Bank accounts is to hide income from the IRS.

We as Americans can do without you referring to a major political party as a "Cult". I think your life started with someone being erected or were you a test-tube baby that was accidently centrifuged?"
The real problem we citizens have today is that neither political party follows the will of the voters..only that of big business and their wealthy friends..and that folks lets out all middle class voters. Our political parties spend more money sucking up to lobbyist in washington than working for the real voters. These so called honest politicans spend more money on their lobbyist friends in wanting their money than many of us in the middle class make a year. I have to wonder just when we are going to realize that these millionaires (politicans) are watching out for themselves rather than the voters who allow them to do whatever and place their bills on us tax payers.

Neither Romney nor Ryan have any "Jobs" Plan because neither one of them have EVER worked in the private sector. They're both rich guys trying to put down working Americans in favor of even larger corporate profits. Republicans are adopting the old failed voo-doo economics that give even more tax cuts for the rich, and pay cuts for working Americans.

GOP platform
Rape is legal.
Domestic violence is a family matter.
Death panels for old people, ie... voucher medicare.
follow the money, follow the money...
The entire Republican agenda and to some extent the Democratic one as well is designed to make money for Big Business.
The Republicans want to kill Medicare and Social Security so employers no longer have to contribute. They want to kill Unions for the same reason. Unions set the watermark for all of our salaries and paid time off as well as our fringes. If the Republican money machine can get rid of them business can treat us like slaves and we'll have no recourse if we want to eat. We will take what is given and say, yes sir, thank you, sir. can I have some more?
If women stay pregnant they are out of the work force. Less trouble, less perks and cheaper salaries for men as well as an endless supply of miserable stupid poor people to feed the machine. Cutting funding to education ensures a stupid, pliant workforce that will put up with what is done to them. Have a look at the "right to work" states for an example.
Cutting funding to social programs is a given. I mean who cares if those people die in the streets, right?
And lastly religion. There is a reason it is said that religion is the opiate of the masses.
The Republicans want to go back to the 19th century because they can run wild, polluting and robbing to their hearts content. And to a certain extent the Democrats want that too.
We no longer have a stake in our government. Republican machination has sold it to big business and the supreme court has made it legal.
They only economic plan they have is the tired, old, worn out, and proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to have failed, two prong attack of cutting taxes and regulations. It gets harder and harder to sell the ridiculous notion that if we just cut revenue and rid ourselves of regulations it will make the nation stronger and more prosporous. These guys are darn good liars, to keep proposing something they tried for 8 years and knowing damn well that the result was that it brought this nation to it's knees, as still being the answer to our problems.
Call me crazy, but David Macko, the Libertarian from OH running for US Senate stopped by last year to have me sign his ballot petition. At the time I asked him who's going to win the Republican presidential nomination, did Crazy Uncle Ron have a chance? He got misty eyed, and declared that Ron Paul would take the stage at the convention in Tampa, and be declared the candidate for President by acclaimation. At the time, I politely asked him what he was on. However, as this crazy quilt continues to unfold, and this story hit the news, I'm beginning to think Mr. Macko might be right. This is all nuttier than anything Kurt Vonnegut could have penned. "Breakfast of Whakos" anyone?
From a legal point of view perpetrating this stance by the GOP/Boehner is a BREACH OF The SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE and is ground for dimissal from office.
This ethic and law has been in effect for almost 300 years and if the GOP continues to try to change this law due to religious beliefs (which is what what this want of change is all about) then the members of the GOP who wish to change this LAW are in Breach of Ethics and theVow they took to uphold the lsaw of this land. Hence they need to be dismissed from office immediately!
Just waitin for people to figure out that it never been about JOBS and everything about being a confederate america. Those low paying jobs will show up when the wack jobs give complete control of our country to the "deserving, smart, praised," 1% ters who afterall made this country what it is. The only thing the GOP cant figure out is how to split up the payday they get from selling us out and enslaving generations to the new world order. This is fact and unfolding right before our eyes. This hostile takeover of america facillitated by the GOP has gone far enough and MUST be stopped! The GOP have turned this country into the twilight zone on steroids. Hollywood and the history books will be best sellers in the coming years. Depending on if you read books of "facts" or the " fictional facts " books that conservatives make up as they go?
Things get complicated when one tries to pander to both sides of an issue at the same time. All you can do is hope no one notices.

Define this Personhood Amendment. So, an airplane crashes. A hundred plus people are lost. Thirty of them are females who are within the age range of childbearing. Should the FAA go the extra distance now to determine now many of them are pregnant. It has been confirmed that five of them actually were from recent medical records. So, did thirty-five additional persons die or was it sixty.
Will this amendment require a woman to inform the government each time she has sex and is possible carrying a person and then register a person document once confirmed.
Dear Government--"My boyfriend and I got busy in the backseat of his car last night, writing to let you know I maybe beginning to make a person."
The GOP requirement under Romney/Ryan.
You're an idiot if you think ANYBODY wants to deny health care to women and children.
That being said, if a child that is aborted is a female, is that not a war on women?
Anabanana... GOP voter suppression...really? How is it these so called suppressed voters can show their ID when they cash their food stamp and welfare checks but can't seem to procure one to vote.
Lets get real and discuss how the New Black Panther Party blocked voters at the polls in '08. I wonder what party they were doing the blocking for?
Romney has no platform.
The only thing that he has a commitment to is NOT revealing his tax returns.
Open your eyes Irish.
Rob,
The problem is that the GOP has failed to put forth a candidate with the necessary experience and results to make independents satisfied.
Mitt's experience in private industry shows that he does not care for the workers; only the bottom line.
Mitt's experience in government shows that he has not promoted job growth.
Mitt's experience in government shows that he is easily swayed by big money in his core beliefs (he was pro-choice before he was anti-choice).
As an independent, I'm willing to look at viable alternatives, but not "ABO".
They breached their oath of office when they signed an oath to a single man, Grover Norquist, they breached their oath of office when they publicly stated that their number one gaol and priority was see to the president of the US fail. If you vote republican you are giving any political party the green light to hold the best interests of an entire nation hostage just so they can win the next election. Short of taking up arms against the US, voting republican and supporting that crap is the most unpatriotic thing you could do.
Remember these are the same guys who said you should never publicly criticize Bush because he is a wartime president and doing so would "embolden our enemies and put American lives in danger" well what the hell happened to that line of thinking from republican politicians right after Obama was elected.
If you care about this country and truly respect our system of government, you have a duty to punish all republicans and vote straight democratic until they straighten up and fly right. I am still waiting for a single republican to denounce their top leadership for openly undermining the office of POTUS for four solid years to solely try to gain a political advantage. They think they are going to blackmail the nation into voting for Romney, I will likely never vote for a single republican for any office of any kind for the rest of life because of it. Welcome to Waterloo you pouting treasonous bastards.
Jonny R Goode - Love the "Romney 1040". If I can suggest a slight improvement, OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C. Just a suggestion and yes please feel free to use to one and all.
OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C.
Feisty - are you really that blatantly blind? You must have just read the headline and then spouted off at the mouth like always. This is typical MSNBC rhetoric to take one attention grabbing quote and make a headline out of it for the salivating Dem Dogs.
If you really read it, the platform on Abortion details are not not the same. But I guess if you really want your Pavlovian fix, you can just read the headline and vote based on your own stupidity.
I soooo want Obama to win this election if only to show Dems that his continued failed policies will destroy what's left of the American economy. I can't wait!
Seriously, collapsing a thread is for wussies. If you can't handle what you see then pull your tin foil hat down over your eyes, bury your head in the sand, quit coming to the blog site, smash your monitor, poke yourself in the eyes, or whatever, but why try to deprive everybody else of their right to make a comment or have an opinion.
Republican Platform Shoes
From the article above:
And to commemorate the Republican National Convention being held in Tampa, Florida, I think the Republicans should change the name from "legitimate rape" to "Stand Your Ground Rape".
(Oh Crap, I hope I didn't give Frank Luntz any ideas.)

I'm independent. I care very much what is in the party platform--it informs me of what the party leaders are for. Unfortunately, Romney & Ryan are backing away from their own positions to get elected. Romney has been very careful to change his positions depending on who he is running against--I watched all of the Republican primary debates and can attest to the validity of this statement. Now that Romney is in the National Election, he spends all his words and money attacking Obama without letting us know what he plans to do. He then selects P. Ryan as his running mate--a man with, in my opinion, extreme right policies--and states that it is going to be his policies not Ryan's that will be in place if he wins the election. My problem: Who or what should I believe in the Republican party's bid to win the Presidency? Do I believe Romney, the constan flip-flopper. Do I believe Ryan's public record while in the Congress? Do I believe the Republican party platform? One other point, there are only a few reasons to have a VP and one is to replace the President if he is not able to function, ala death, etc. Having said this P. Ryans record is very important and should be a major concern to everyone even if Romney does not want it to be. Still undecided but, I think, not for long.
Thank you George, that was a reasoned post, and it is the honest truth that Romney has taken every position on every issue, depending on which way the political wind is blowing that day. How do you feel about Romney not showing his tax returns, what is in there that he must feel would be politically devastating to him, how phony is it that the man who wants to restructure the nations taxes will not divulge his own. I hope you vote Democratic George, you sound too reasonable for the current crop of republicans.
@ Eileen
It's nice to know that somewhere there are people who have some common sense left, and that Ron Paul hasn't been completely thrown under the bus yet. I don't see why anybody in their right mind would think either Obama OR Romney would change anything about where we're going as a country. The GOP party is in obvious total disarray, and the Democrats have had their chance. By what poll numbers I see, it doesn't appear the majority of Americans believe they're better off now than when Obama took office. Both parties gave us the Patriot Act, and the NDAA. Neither party can keep their grubby mitts out of the pockets of special interests and lobbyists long enough to work for the better of all of us.
Ron Paul has been ignored because people don't understand his policies and goals. But I'll tell you, he's the only honest man in this race (besides Gary Johnson maybe). It's amazing when people turn a deaf ear to honesty and a blind eye to salvation. Ron Paul is the only candidate that doesn't need a teleprompter to tell him what to say, because he already knows. He hasn't spoon-fed us BS to the point that he can't remember where he stands on issues, or what he told people the last time. Both these candidates have flopped on issues, not just Romney. We were founded on State's Rights, otherwise they'd be no states at all. All the issues I see these parties arguing about, are essentially State's Rights issues, not issues for our Federal Government to even have the constitutional right to draw lines for. United States of America about says it all. They should stick to concerns of national well being such as infrastructure, protection of our land and our freedoms /rights. This whole race has gotten to be like 2 bullies fighting it out on the playground, while their supporters stand behind them yelling words of encouragement. We can never be united until we find a common interest, which should be making sure our children have an environment that's healthy to grow up in. This toxic campaign is disgusting, and I for one will vote for Ron Paul. Anything else is just a vote for the lesser of two evils IMO.
Hold on folks this is a good thing not a bad thing. If the Republican Platform is anywhere close to the lunacy, hypocricy, anti everything that has been espoused for the last 18 months this is the best thing that could happen to the Liberal Nation.
We should be very thankfull for this news
Jaybub - Rep. Ron Paul is against abortion for victims of rape and incest as he advocates immediate repeal of Rowe v. Wade and implementation of a personhood bill.
Don't believe me? Go to his campaign website and look under the issues tab.

Obama/Biden - 2012!
In an earlier post someone mentioned that Bobby Jindal said that he will not take any stimulus money! He is a liar like Ryan. Berated the stimulus, but in secret begged for it. He is even on tape saying that the stimulus will create jobs. Lyin Ryan is the ultimate Flip Flopper and a hypocrite!!! BOBBY JINDAL IS BEGGING FOR THE MONEY FOR HIS STATE FROM THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT!!!
Jindal should be deported back to India for being so stupid!!! He picks "Party" over the benefit of the people in Louisiana!!!!!
Hey Willard, we are still waiting on your taxes!!! Did Shammus eat them? We want to see how much you hid away in those off-shore accounts!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Still waiting for a Republican... any Republican... to explain how we will PAY for all these unwanted babies.
Republicans hate the welfare entitlement, yet they want to add more people to welfare by banning abortions. Why do they want to increase the size of the entitlement that they hate? And how the f*** will we pay for them?
On top of that, there are over 400,000 unwanted children in the foster care system. But Republicans don't give a flying f*** about them. Instead of trying to help the current children, they just want to add to their ranks.
And if these children they are saving do not have medical insurance, how do Republicans respond? Que the tape: Republican debate - "Let them DIE!!!!!!"
@Matthew-2771918#1.51: An excellent statement! Infinitely responsible and relevant! You're a smart, and good one. Thank you. Best regards, Mac Forrester
Hey all!
Did you hear about the woman in Mississippi that was arrested for daring to have a minstrel cycle in public?
Women beware!! Ovulation is now a crime and you will be persecuted for allowing your eggs to go unfertilized.
Ron,
Party platforms are significant and do change from cycle to cycle depending on who is nominated to run. Simply look at a couple of platforms and see how they change. Easy to see the changes in the Dem's between 64", 68" and 72" and no I have not ever seen a candidate in disagreement with his own party's platform. Someone will have to show me an example I have never seen one. I know of vice president's brought on to balance a ticket who are not in wholehearted support of some party planks such as bringing Nixon onto the Eisenhower ticket because of the dissatisfaction of the Western Warren Republicans and the conservative Taft supporters who thought Eisenhower was far to moderate.

Fishy (NBC): Your inane post @ 1.1, which you were obviously tipped off to prepare before the Article went public, got 193 votes. Only 4 and 1/2 hours passed between your asinine comment and the closing comment 1.106 (11:51 am to 4:21 pm). It is now 5:34 pm and the best you could have gotten was 193 votes in less than six hours -- all during business hours on a Tuesday. It's surprising to me that there we enough people around to collapse you in that period -- which is 5.
Your robo-voting is obvious. Stop it. Try putting up a comment without the robo-voting and lets see what people really think of you!!! Or would that be too embarrassing?
Virgina, yep it even feels good to say it.
Feisty, the speaker of the house that did that, is involved in another scandal involving voter fraud. He is regular man of the people. His business is in collection, and yet the most ignorant of Calhoun County will probably re-elect him. My thought is thank God for term limits.

TO: Rod_Father who wrote:
I know that, so does the rest of the world.
It makes me wonder why, sRyan benefitted from it but Ryan rails against anyone else benefitting from the same darn thing that made him and HIS family rich!
Ryan is known as one of the Teagaggers "darlings" because he spoke out so strongly against President Obama's "bailout" of the auto industry while Ryan himself got a "bailout" for his family which resulted in Ryan's family being independently wealthy AND Ryan stands to receivea huge inheritance from his parent, which obviously Ryan doesn't want to have to pay any taxes on.
So Ryan uses his political position to protect himself from taxes, while he sticks all the taxes to Working Americans.
Same with health insurance. Ryan has his cadillac plan "for life" because he's a Washington Politician, but works AGAINST the American People to prevent us from having even affordable healthcare, nevermind us having any "cadillac plan" that we the people are paying for HIM to have!

Sometimes in life, we are given second chances. Sometimes, we don't recongnize it before it's too late.
The election of President Obama, I believe, was one of the moments in time, where we as a nation could recognize our faults, and acknowledge them.
A second chance.
This country is brutally divided, and has a long, bitter history of hatred and anger.
We also have a long history, of extending our arms and open doors to those in need.
I hope this election, people pause to recognize this. Because these chances in life don't come very often, and when they pass us by, we regret that we didn't see it.
President Obama is a good man. He has a beautiful wife and lovely children. He is a Christian, and he loves America deeply.
Salud, Amigo.
Thanks to all the gentlemen and ladies with the sick twisted humor on this post. I've been busting a gut laughing with you. John Stewart is on reruns so this helps a lot.
Unless Romney publicly and formally disowns the platform it IS HIS.
Ha Doug, you got that exactly right. What can he say vote for me but not for other republicans because I don't agree with their platform, what can the GOP say vote our candidates but not Romney because he does not share our platform. They have double-talked themselves into a frenzy of incoherency.
This is the 21st Century GOP version of The Wizard of Oz. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
The GOP/Tea Scum blame regulation for chaining business...but has NO problem with regulating people.
The GOP/Tea Trash Party is a domestic social terrorist organization more than a political party these days.
"GOP platform not the platform of Mitt Romney"
He forgot to add..."yet"
The new teapublican party veering ever harder right will take their candidates...or their money...with them.
Who was it that said "You're either with us, or against us"???
Does Romney have a position on anything? Does it match the GOP or not?
The Republican party is showing us its divide. It can't decide on anything.
Slow and steady recovery is better than chaos. Vote Obama/Biden 2012.
Jonny R Goode, it was worth reading twice!
The GOP's crash-and-burn political strategy is great theater but it isn't going to net them many voters. November is shaping up to be a huge disaster for the Republican Party...and I have no pity for them at all. They have no one to blame for their failure but themselves.
"We haven't installed that chip in Mitt yet. It's on backorder, we expect to have it sometime in October. Also his personality routines need to be updated. We are having a hard time because the code is so outdated and no one knows what language it was written in."
Agreed, Sailcat. It is clear who has popular support and who has the backing of the corporations, from the CEOs right down to the individual contributions to the Obama campaign that averaged $53.00. It is clear who can address the issues directly and specifically, and who talks in circles in glittering generalities, but can't or won't offer specifics. It is clear who pulled himself up from his bootstraps, and who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
It is also a clear choice. Support the man currently doing the job, not the guy that promises he can do better.
Obama/Biden 2012 and what Jonny R Goode said.
I despise the policies of Obama and Romney equally for the most part, and I feel that both parties have a lot of explaining to do to this country, but knowing that the GOP claims to want to get their man in the White House, I have to wonder why they keep trying to hand the election to Obama? They're making it awfully difficult for the ABO crowd to stick to that!
Priebus' statement can be interpreted in only one way: "The GOP and its extremists did not want Romney as their presidential nominee. However, Mitt was the only Republican candidate who had enough money to stay in the Republican race."
Preibus is dancing around the dangerous agenda of the far right. As the chairman of the GOP, he is dissecting the party into segments. He is stating that these various segments have different points of views. This may be true. However what is also true and clear is at the head of the right's insane parade to shove America back into a dark past is, The Tea Party and its supporters.
The RNC's convention is not until next week.
Yet, it is obvious that Mitt is not in control.
Mitt is scampering to run away from Ryan's desire to purge America. The right wing extremists have forced Romney into a diminished role in the GOP.
If Romney cannot control the buffaloes in this Fascists group, how can he successfully lead America?
Mitt cannot move this country forward.
Too bad, these progressively blind folks cannot form their own little dysfunctional country.
It would help America to see them leave this Nation!
"Priebus: GOP platform 'not the platform of Mitt Romney'"
Huh! Apparently, confusion still reigns supreme within The Gang That Couldn't
ShootThink Straight.Who'd a thunk it!
The hypocrisy is just plain outrageous. The Repubs want to stop any kind of abortion, control women, shove their religious beliefs down our throats, but they don't want to take care of the children after they are born or the children that are living. Thanks to their immoral cuts, more children than ever will be going without food, childcare, you name it, they want to cut it. Their party wants to cut everything that affects children the most.
Someone explain to me how this makes any kind of sense????
Jonny R Goode - Sorry for this re-post, post #1 got collapsed as I posted this. LOVE your "Romney 1040". If I could suggest a slight improvement, OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C. Just a suggestion and please feel to use one and all.
OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C.
Some choice - either a failed President or the 2008 runner-up. This country's in trouble.
nwnative - We all have to come to grips with the fact the RWNJ's have derailed and any possibility of making sense of their nonsense is impossible. The best example I can think of is a head with 2 mouths, one on the left side and other on the right that speak simultaneously at exceedingly high decibels. The best defense I can suggest is placing our hands over our ears and say LA! LA! LA! LA! LA! LA! LA! LA! LA! Hope that helps.
OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C.
The platform is the "agenda" of the national ticket -- that is the whole idea of it and why it is written and voted on @ the national convention. The platform is the "public statement" of what the ticket plans to do ince elected in to office and govern. This is what yhe voter is "buying" when they vote for that ticket. Clearly the GOP is confused, yet still so determined to push their agenda of self-interest -- no matter the cost or how it appears to anyone - the true message is that we don't care -- the American peole are too dumb to realize what we are plaaning to do to their country. . Priebus saying that their "Pro-Life' position is really pro-women is just insane. "Pro-Choice' mean that the legal right to this very personal decision is the choice and option of the woman alone -- it does not impose abortion on anyone against their will. If a women does not want to have a abortion -- she does not have to have one --This Republican agenda is nothing more than insane double-speak --freedom FROM Choice!!~ How anyone could take anything this current GOP said seriously is beyond me. Consider the source -- Their true agenda is for the very rich and big corproations to be able to make more and more profits and take work overseas --with out any restriction or regs -- and to assure that they do not pay taxes on these excess profits and need to employ American citizens in this country for a living wage-- This abortion isssue is not a moral one -- it is purly economic --first gut all education and social and health support programs (allowign the rich to get a tax cut since these program will no longer exisit or require any funding--Do away with all birth control for the average citizen (reserve this right for the rich alone). Then create a large pool of underclass -- and cheap labor -- to further force down wages and have the working class fight amoung themselves for the remaining crumbs while the richest corporations and investor enjoy record high profits and record low (if any) taxes. Consider the source -- FOX news -- over-paid, under-educated loud-mourh, disingenious hacks being paid to be "mouth-pieces" for their rich right-wing masters who onlt real job is to misinform the public and advance their own personal agenda. The bottom line of the GOP agenda -- the poor have too much money and the rich don't have enought -- if we did away with any and all programs that the rich do not use or need -- the money dsaved can be put right back in the richest pockets.-
Thank God! I have been so worried that people bought into all the Repug garbage and that nobody, but a few, could see through their contradictions and hidden agendas....Thank you to everyone who posted on this thread....It has restored a certain amount of faith in my brother man. I'm not religious but I really don't think Jesus was a republican...or a capitalist. People on the right that claim these religious values should truly question what they stand behind....More for the rich less for the poor....trickle down economics (we will see after we give the rich all the money....AGAIN). I do not see the sense of the right anymore.........They have lost touch.....Remember Reagan gave an amnesty...They have taken Reagan's plan...put it on steroids and now we have a beautiful mess/recipe for economic disaster.....
For decades it has been accepted that Roe v Wade with the Hyde Amendment is the undisputed law of the land. Even Romney once said he would not try to change this legal precedence, and most Americans including the religious-Right saw exceptions in the case of rape/incest or putting the life of the mother at risk.
Then I started hearing more and more social conservatives saying there can be no exceptions. I thought maybe they were trying to be *pure* in their belief that abortion is murder. But now we learn it is because of a history of QUACKERY. There has been a conspiracy theory/urban legend/old wives tale or whatever you want to call it--pseudo science--that women who are traumatized by "forced" rape are physically incapable of getting pregnant. This is on par with girls using peanut butter for contraception!
Who knows how many Republicans currently in office, or running for office, embrace this QUACKERY, but we as a society, as a nation, must put an end to such damaging ignorance--especially root it out of the mainstream and government leadership positions. It's bad anough to try to use such BS to attack women'e rights, but it is beyond words if a person actually believes such BS.
When the true weight of this craziness struck the core of my soul, I found it so profoundly disturbing -- It is difficult to wrap my head around it.
Batcrap Bachmann advocated that the news media should do a "penetrating expose" to determine how many members of Congress were "anti-American." Well the media and American voters need to do an investigation to ferret out any person holding office or running for office who believes a woman can't become pregnant if "legitimately" raped. This is so beyond the pale of acceptable behavior, it can't be left to stand in any part of this country.
The National Right to Life Committee awarded Paul Ryan a 100% rating. Both Romney and Paul Ryan have supported"personhood" legislation, with Ryan advocating NO exceptions. Romney has advocated over-turning Roe v Wade and leaving the matter to the states -- We are talking civil rights, which are a Federal Govenment matter!
The first thing that needs to be done is to send all Republicans packing in this elections. The second thing that needs to be done is to replace the Republicans and any male with a Democrat female where ever possible. Enough of menlike Akin trying to dictate what women's right should be. If they want an amendment it should be that MEN no longer have any say in what women can or cannot do--especially misogynists like Todd Akin and all the other jagoffs in the Republican Party from Paul Ryan and Romney right down the line.
T Bourlon - I am satisfied with our POTUS and will vote for his reelection. You, on the other hand, have an impossible choice. A failed 2008 runner up & failed VP contestant that lost out to Syrup Palin. How could it get worse for your side. Allow me to say "so sad for your side".

OBAMA 2012/ROMNEY 1040 & 1040B.C.
I have this sickening feeling that they will nominate Ryan for presidential candidate at the convention and leave Mitt in the dirt.....they let him do the dirty work; now they'll put their REAL candidate up. If that happens...it could be interesting. Not even sure if they can do that or not, but it will be great to see. Either way, they're going to lose (hopefully).
Get a job libtards/turds.
Amused,
You and your political/socialist agenda has always been putting your hands over your ears and saying LALALALALA since Barry has been poisoning the nation.
It seems poingnant that jonnyrgoode mentioned in his post "The Man behind the Curtain", since I have been wondering how Barry was able to reach the yellow brick road without having to abide by the same scrutiny all of our other presidents have been held to. There surely must be some ALL POWERFUL, ALL KNOWING powerful being guiding and protecting Barry from breaking the laws of the land that he took an oath to protect.
Liberals are so hypocritical in actions compared to their flawed and erred perception of themselves. You pretend to be all for the individuals rights but steadily take the rights from people. Like the proabortion laws. You seek the right for the woman to MURDER an unborn child because the woman is not responsible enough to use a condom or birth control.
But I know there is an even darker reason for the murder of children and it is vanity and greed. These days women are professionals in the work place and simply will not trade their careers for a human's life. They want to fit into the bathing suit when the vacation comes around, and they want to look into the mirror and not see the wear and tear of pregnancy on their bodies. More importantly though, they do not want children tieing them down on a daily basis. The hypocrisy of Ms. Barry'O is a good example, as she presents the fassad of the dutiful wife and mother, but as she stands in front of a garden that the hired help planted and says "Look, we have a garden!". She would NEVER dirty her hands with the thousand dollar manicures by working a garden. A person that works a garden is easy to identify because they have special qualities easy to recognize. She is as false as her mate.
The only reason for legal abortion is for an effort to save the mother's life or health or if she was Raped! period.
The press is like the liberals on this post. A person can write a true statement that is insightful, honest, and full of truth, but is critical of the self rightous Left or Right. Instead of arguing points(because they are true), they criticize a grammar error or a type error in an attempt to detract from the overall statement. This is what happened to the POLITICIAN as he stumbled through a difficult question. The same was true of Perry as he was totally unqualified as a consummate liar as we now see in the White House. Perry is an administrator that has done a difficult job well, but he is not a good politician in the sense of being a great liar or has the charm and charisma to be able to hide their own faults under the guise of smooth talk and deception.
The fact that the hard line religious and conservatives are on the right side of the political spectrum, is no more relevant that the Far left is filled with Anarchist and Communist that sought to destroy our nation during the civil rights efforts in the 60s. The small minded people that cannot think beyond the menu on the last meal they consumed will gravitate towards the far left or far right extremes because the Rhetoric is already written down for them to recite.
There is a greater questions to ask yourselves, "Can I think for myself without having the popular perceptions guide me?", and "A leader is supposed to lead and be able to unite a common people for the good of the whole. Has the man standing before the curtain been a force to unite or to destroy that which we love?" Myself, I see an Anarchist.
Jesus did just that and it led him to a horrible death at the hands of the powerful police state that existed then. But all you can see and hear is the shouting from the Left and Right.

Where is George W. Bush??? Has he gotten off of the elevator yet? Willard "Tricky Dick" Mitt Romney and Paul "Lyin" Ryan will lose by a landslide. It really doesn't matter what their speeches are!! They are losers and are completely out of touch with the American People!
Lyin Ryan co authored the archaic personhood bill and other bills with the idiot Aiken!! What a "Flip Flopper"!!!!!!! Lyin Ryan want to turn Medicaid into a voucher program!!! And end it in 10 years!!!!!
Hey Willard, we are still waiting on your taxes!!! Maybe you will upload them into your teleprompter at the convention!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
Pretty funny...they can't even agree amongst themselves!
Romney as Governor of Massachusets : Signed legislation banning semi automatic assault guns.
Voiced "strong support of strong gun laws
Announced support of Abortion rights
Announced support of Stem Cell research
was caught twice using illegal south american immigrant labor at home.
Invented RomneyCare, which Pres. Obama just watered down & copied.
Instructed his 5 sons to avoid/evade the draft or military as he had done.
Romney spent his Vietnam days living in Paris, nice,...eh ?
So, it came out today, that Ryans College sweetheart was a Black girl.........a Negress !! How will this fly in the Confederate States of America !!! Ryan loved a ca-ca...........next,we'll hear that she had his love child...this should be good...the GOP is like one of those tawdry soap operas that your chain smoking, overweight auntie watched all day !

Get back to me and lets go over your perceived grievances. Choose one issue at a time and I will answer you until we finish all of them. I will try to conduct myself responsibly without name calling. Another great example of the typical *swoop and poop* rightwing post. So why don't you tell us why you support Romney/Ryan -- Enlighten us about all the wonderful things they are running on?
All I've seen posted in this forum by rightwingers are attacks of the president or other members of his team. I never see anything positive about the GOP/TP platform or the candidates. And you call liberals sheep. Riiight.
Or going on a partisan junket and partying and skinny dipping the the Sea of Galilee? After all the sex scandals during Dubya, you'd think the GOP would have taken corrective action. They are and always have been a bunch of hypocritical Posers.
Larry, if you feel that abortion should only be in case of rape/incest I want to ask you a question, so you feel that abortion is killing right, well is it not as well killing a child when someone has an abortion due to rape or incest, what fault does that child have. I myself believe that it is a woman's choice, I do not feel it is killing before the 3 months, it is an empryo not a child, but everyone has their own opinion and everyone's opinion should be respected, if you don't believe in abortion and believe it is killing a child then not even in rape or incest or health reasons should someone get an abortion, not your children, wife or whom ever.
Hey all!
Did you hear about the woman in Mississippi that was arrested for daring to have a minstrel cycle in public?
Women beware!! Ovulation is now a crime and you will be persecuted for allowing your eggs to go unfertilized.
That seems to be the 1,000,000 question that no RWer can answer. How can they claim that every conception, no matter the circumstances should be born into a world of already overcrowded foster homes and poverty, while cutting every social program that would support them and help give them a leg up to become viable, productive citizens? I'll be damned if I've ever gotten a straight answer for this kind of upside-down, backwards thinking.
Non-True Patriot,
You are a fake, change your name. I guess that I am a true Patriot that believes in saving the Constituion and believe in saving this great Country.
Is this kind of ranting convincing anybody but, a druggie to vote for Obama the radical leftist Socialist that is destroying America and is running the US economy in to the ground. Why isn't Obama trying to do anything about getting jobs for everybody but, those libs that want sit on their touche all day long.
Welcome USA,
Awesome, insightful post. You added so much to the discussion. Why don't you actually address the point of the article? Why not a bipartisan discussion on what it means for American politics when political parties come close to claiming that they might be running platforms that are contrary to the views of their party's candidate? I think there are interesting issues to discuss surrounding this, and yet what you say has no more substance than a bumper-sticker designed by a 12 year old.
What's the matter, FOX News hasn't told you what to think about this yet, so you don't know quite what to say? Liberals and conservatives can argue all they want about what is ruining this country, but the fact is, it's the empty rah-rah-rah, root for my football team, mindless rhetoric that comes from too many in our citizenry that is doing the most harm.
Wow welcome, while I was typing the above post, you added another with your keen insight and wit. And don't bother labeling me a socialist or whatever weak-minded insult you have. I am not an Obama supporter, but I have even less tolerance for ignorance disguised as insight.
When the republican party speaks i cant help but think of that Paul simon song. "still crazy after all these years' lol And that's all i have to say about that.
So, we have Jerry40yeardemocrat with "Get a job libtards/turds." andWelcomeUSA with the equally pithy "The liberal sheep are out in force today. Nothing to watch on TV?".
I'm not sure what they are tying to say except that they think anyone from the left taking the time to read and comment on this story are not working.
But, by there own pointless contributions to this conversation, have they not also insinuated that they are just sitting around eating Cheetos and not participating in the economy of the country? Can't have it both ways unless your name is Mitt.
How come we allow these corporate parties to bind our representatives to a fictional platform?
As for the tea party? To even contemplate these concept seems to be extremely hypocritical to your non institution based lies. Can't beat them so join them? Whimps
Obama/Biden 2012 Robmehood/Ruin 1040
It appears to be feeding time in the Republican python pit. Mr. Priebus is already making excuses for the disparity between the GOP platform and that of Mitt Romney. Well, they've got the rest of this week to work out their differences.
Somebody tell Sarah Palin her comedy act won't be needed in Tampa...she's been superseded by her own party.
Boy-oh-boy...is THIS gonna be fun to watch!
Sorry, wrong thread.
It is so typical how these people on this site are getting paid to support the left views and try to attack anybody that is telling them we have a real problem in this Country. They try to attack Romney even if his views are inline with some of theirs, with the economy and unemployment. Obama, is clueless he has shown us for over 3 1/2 years on how to handling this problem. I have heard the standard answer: Its Bushes fault! That doesn't work with anybody that has ever had a job. If you take a position from a previous employee that has caused a problem and lets see, tell your boss even after 3 months its the previous employees fault. Oh really!!! How long has Obama been using this excuse over 3 1/2 years? Get over it libs it is Obama that is President now.
WelcomeUSA
I started writing this large reply to your ignorant rantings......Then I just kinda stopped...Then backed up and ha! A troll is a troll.....your smoke and mirrors don't work here....You need to open a book and gain some understanding of the 08' devaluation of middle class wealth and how that impacts the economy in real terms......Blame whomever you would like...the over inflation of the real estate market due to the deregulation of the bank and the lack of regulation of the PMI insurer lead to something far more significant than what apparently you understand.......In other words if you weren't so __— stupid you would be kissing the ground Obama walks on thanking whatever God you believe in that the country isn't at 30+% unemployment with your idiot children starving in the street.....
i'm in agreement with ryan on cutting funds to family planning that fund abortions. maybe women will make more choice for safe sex if they know they can't get out of it when they can't afford to pay. we cannot afford it.
the "human life amendment" would be a big mistake for repubs to run on.
chartsweb - Would you be happy if women have to use coat hangers or get a "back alley" abortion? I'm afraid that those who oppose abortion want these methods to come back into vogue. Is that very Christian? Now the POTUS wants health care to provide birth control for women, is that a problem for you? Why do you think the "human life amendment" would be a mistake for the repubs to run on? Should they just stay silent and then if elected spring it on the public and just say "surprise"!
Nawwww WelcomeUSA...any payment we might receive comes only in the form of watching the debacle known as the GOP implode from within.
Believe me, as I say this with all sincerity, it's absolutely priceless!
Wow...spend a lot of time projecting, do you? Sounds like a right-wing troll line if I ever heard one.
Uhhh...really? Somebody clued you in about that, didn't they? Do you think that could explain why John McCain and Sarah Palin aren't running...anything?
Peter,
A huge thumbs up, brother!
Obama 2012/Romney 1040

Stopped reading here, go learn about science
If the GOP platform is not a blueprint of how a Romney presidency (wiping vomit off keyboard) would look like, then what the hell good is it? Why bother having a platform?
Exactly.
GOP platform: nuke a gay whale for Christ after using vaginal probes and vouchers.
Al in Visalia - Hope all is well in my home town, great to see like minded individual.
Could Republicans be any more schizophrenic? Someone should commit that Party to a psychiatric institution. Some serious problems in their collective heads.
I just read an article at the New Yorker which told me social conservative groups have spent 70 million dollars on TV ads attacking Obama, vs 1.6 million from liberal social groups attacking Romney.
I must amend my comment: the Republicans are not schizophrenic; Romney is wholly beholden to the anti-women's rights crowd. Imagine if he were elected and didn't immediately dance to their tune. Boy, would they be pissed, after spending a small fortune to criminalize abortion, if Romney didn't get it done.
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/08/27/120827fa_fact_mayer?currentPage=2
Amy B. Portland, ME
schizophrenic is a good word to describe the Republican Party because they do show symptoms of impairments in the perception or expression of reality, auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions or disorganized speech and thinking in the context of significant social or occupational dysfunction.
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
Governor Vagina probe of Virginia is the chairman of the GOP platform committee. That says it all.
"I don't really buy the fact that a pro-abortion stance means that you're pro-women," Priebus said in his MSNBC appearance.
"I don't really buy the fact that an anti-woman stance means that you're pro-women," I said in reply.
Bally is it a Disassociation Disorderwhich often needs Thorazine to maintain some sense of order!
No mental institutions left after St. Ronnie of Alzheimer's shut them down in the 80s!
Amy - I read that NYer mag article, and I have to tell you, as a 4th generation Mormon and descendent of Ezra Taft Bension - Mormon's DO NOT object to abortion. It is far more likely that if Romney is in fact a devout Mormon, he's playing this far right wing-nutty side to get elected. (As if...) The actual stance of the church is about a stones throw from that of hardline Catholics and Evangelicals. If a fetus is lost, then another one will be created in its place for the soul that was predestined to come into it. It's a medical tradedy, but with the guidance of her spouse, parents or local priesthood leadership, it is ONLY a matter of the woman's free agency. The church would far prefer a woman whose life was endangered by pregnancy to survive to raise the children she already has, or live to adopt a child who needs a mother; rather than let her suffer mental illness or death due to a medical contraindication to pregnancy. The same applies for a rape or incest victim, or even a very young pregnant woman. In the late 70's this happened in my ward to a teenager who was supported through the termination of her incestuous pregnancy, and she was not excommunicated. In fact, she ended up at BYU and is now married with kids and as far as I know, doin ok. As a primary method of birth control? No, they won't support that. But if Romney is gonna disavow the RNC platform, this would be why.
Romney, the man who has not ever walked in the shoes of the lower and middle classes of America. Please indulge me for a moment. As a nurse, I've seen patients have to endure all kinds of things with doctors acting like it's just fine to order the tests, etc. then when the bills come, they have nothing left. I always said, doctors should have a mandatory semester of being a PATIENT!
Romney, with all of his millions of personal wealth ought to be given homeless conditions and walk in the shoes of people who don't know where their next meal will come or where they will sleep, and let's do it in the midst of winter! Perhaps then, I might, might consider him human. I might even consider having a beer with him if he picks up the tab!
Oh sorry, Mitt can take Akin with him, as I guess I forgot the main topic. I have to seriously ask where the h**l Akin's brain is or does he even have one!? There, I stayed on topic.
Obama/Biden = Hell on earth. Don't kid yourself. Cheetosnijams? Where did you come up with that false statment about souls. Oh my gosh...you all appear sick and depraved...making your own laws and rules against God. May He have mercy on you. Rapture...please happen soon!
Cindy - Don't forget to take all the RWNJ's with you. Bye bye!
Rapture...please happen soon! OMG! Perfect example of what's wrong with the USA today. Don't bother to reply, Miss Cindy. Your ignorance has been "ignored."
Sorry Cindy but Harold Camping already said it was scheduled twice last year and it failed to materialize either time. Religions, just another superstition!
dang! helluva good job, akin ...
I hope he doesn't cave. The rest of his party is now anxiously awaiting 5:00 PM. I think he will defy good judgement, and I hope he hangs around as long as possible. Same with Wrongme's returns. I hope he releases them one week ahead of the election so it is fresh in everyone's minds. This is why these people are too stupid to lead and why they need to be sent back to whereever they came from.
Did you read the article? It discusses how the GOP intends to go ahead and present the "no abortion including rape cases" platform. Romney does not believe the same way. Thus, the difference.
Now that is a bunch of lefties practicing what they preach against. GO FARTHER THAN THE HEADLINE.
...or does he? I can't tell any more as I've just plain lost track of where the guy stands on abortion.
Or anything else for that matter. Other than his unwavering support for the Ryan Plan (and the incredible faults thereof) I cannot pin down exactly what Mitt's platform even is.
Then way doesn't Willard speak up? Because he doesn't have a back bone. Like I said, "all this crazy talk is coming from a GOP cult that thinks that life begins at erection."
Medical records
Romney should show his medical records.
He seem to suffer short term memory loss.
If Gov. Romney doesn't agree with the Republican Platform, how about he come out and say what GOP planks he intends to completely ignore? Maybe that will further "define him" for the voters.
Maybe Mythe is pulling an early Reagan....dementia...or is he demented?
What does Mythe stand for? The answers are blowing in the wind.......
TO: Talk to the Hand who wrote:
Same old GOP, trying to lie people into voting for them, and the reason for that is because Republicans are not actually "for the people", they're just "for" getting their way without having any keen instinct about what "their way" really would mean.
Obama 2012 / Romney 1040 !
Don't worry! Mittens will FLIP/FLOP on that no abortion under any circumstaces at least a dozen more times before the election.
The GOP stance is we will not support rape unless it can get us votes. Yeah Romney we get how you feel. Hey how is that 75 million dollars you made off of the aborted fetus disposal company?
OBAMA 2012!!
Call me a lefty, or a rightie or whatever you want, but I am 61 years old and I swear that if I live another 61 years, I will NEVER understand why the Republicans feel the overwhelming need to try and control women through their reproductive abilities...it is sick...it shows they are scared to death of women and their power...what a really sad party that can't stick to our sagging economy and stay out of women's privates
Wrongme is strongly Pro-Life AND Pro-Choice. Other candidates are not bold enough to declare support for both, but Mitt is!
Willard is so magnificent, so severely conservative, yet so moderate, he can be both Pro and Anti anything you want. Just fill in the blanks. Or shake the Etch-A-Sketch. Ya know?? LOL
He's the perfect candidate, and that's been his occupation for the last 6 years. Professional campaigner.
Plus, he took the Gold Medal at the 2000 Salt Lake City Olympics in Mens Flip-Flopping.
Startderup- Romney puts his finger in his mouth, wets it, sticks it outside his car door to see which way the wind is blowing before he answers anything. Problem is, the car is going 50 mph (with his dog on top) so he gets confused on where he stands...
The big R$R does not believe in abortion in any case.. RYAN believes even deeper, as he believes that we should not allow INVITRO... wonder if that is a personal conflict with the Romney family since 3 of the Romney boys used INVITRO to have children ryans problem with this is the fertilized eggs remaining are eventually destroyed and RYAN calls this murder
Rmoney/Ryan RR: The Rolls Royce of tickets -- running over the poor and working class.
Hey Talk -- yeah I read it, and I still think Romney's gonna dance to whatever tune they (right wing prolifers) play. Rance and Rove n company take lots of cash from these Right Wing nutbags. The nutbags want their say, and their way, which means that the non-stop march to overturning Roe circuit court by circuit court and legislature by legislature will continue.
Make no mistake, they have no intention of counting on the Pres to do it -- it's just a great way to gin up the base. They are working state by state and court by court, and getting Romney in the Oval Office will be looked on as a "mandate". Get the less-qualified and uber conservative judges in there, with this plank of the GOP platform to stand on.
My mom is pro-life to the core; I grew up hearing this false logic legit rape propoganda, and I KNOW how these people (yes, I mean these people because they all have coffee, send out mailings, take turns at the rallies in front of clinics, etc.) think. These are good well-meaning people who are so wrapped in the Bible and the flag they will swallow whatever gets spoonfed them -- as long as the candidate is "pro-life". They are cheering right now -- just look for the Personhood signs at the convention...trust me, this is the agenda.
Thank you for your eloquent remarks, your astute awareness of the situations in your life, and willingness to call it as you see it for you.Individuality is a character trait of many successful and wise Americans.ATTAGIRL!
<shakes his head>
Uh...you guys just really don't have a clue who you are any more, do you?
This is only one of many differences between Obama and the 2008 Democratic platform. Though the Democrats did try to mirror his stances more than the Republicans are doing now. But every candidate throughout history has had some to sometimes a lot of differences between themselves and the Party. That is not that unusual. If one candidate was exactly on with the Party faithful then the Primaries would end on the first night. So relax the election isn't until November still time for lots of politics (unfortunately). The undecideds and the independants will decide this election not the extreme left or right and it appears the undecideds and independants are going to vote on who better to fix the economy and create jobs not on social ideas.
gtouch,
The problem with your argument is that the Republicans social ideas are so out of it that I would vote for Social issues alone. If they are making outrageous laws concerning my body what other horrible things will they do to the economy.
tbenno on the far left and the far right it seems their views are a religion. It is like talking to the Taliban when you speak to the Uber left or right not listening just their over the top views on almost everything. If the social issue is the strongest for you and the Democratic Party aligns with your belief system then vote your heart that is what this is all about. Thanks for the response.
gtouch:
I think the so-called "job creators" should be creating the jobs.
And here's a hint: you don't fix the economy by making people poorer.
Romney and Ryan can try and run from the RNC's (and many other Republican's) ultra-rightwing conservative position on abortion--abortion without any exceptions, not rape, not even the health of the woman--BUT they can't hide. Let's not forget that Romney said, loudly and forcefully, during the Republican Primary debates that he would sign into law a bill outlawing abortion without any exceptions, not rape, not even the health of the woman. Here is just one more--of the many, many, outrageously many--flip-flops Romney has made. The message here should be this: Not only do Romney and Ryan appear not to believe that women should be in control of their own bodies but Romney and Ryan will say anything, take any position, to get elected.
The GOP Cult which includes Willard and Little Paul want to have placed on the front of all women is a stamp that reads "Property of The United States Government."
and the GNOP is always for "smaller" government.....just didn't know they meant down there.......
What a mess! Between this and the role that "The Donald" is going play, I 'll make sure that I watch the convention.
Trump's participation could be a good thing. Maybe he will fire them all.
Donald Trump is there for the entertainment portion of the show. He's just there to tell a few jokes, get a few laughs and actually get paid for doing so! He'll probably start his act out by giving the GOP a good talking to and then a good comb over! I still wish Sarah was going to be there...what a major disappointment...but given her past record, I'm sure she'll pop up sometime, somewhere during the course of the whole convention! It just wouldn't be the same without her!
Yes,she lent such incredulous hilarity to the 2008 election comedy,I've always believed she was the best thing to ever happen to the Dems, and I still can't find anyone to rival her stupid ambition,'cept maybe Ryan's,funnny how the tbags helped destroy Republican principles and their own credibility with so little time to accomplish that.Shame too,I understand the "old Republicans " were capable legislators and willing to identify themselves as contributors to compromise. No longer.
It's very enjoyable watching and hearing the rebooblican rats scurrying around the deck of their sinking ship.
So THAT's what those scratching noises are!!!
Obama 2012/Romney 1040
What did I miss something? Does the Republican tea partiers have two candidates running for the Presidency?
I thought Romney was the leader of the Republican tea parties? Republicans need to let the tea partiers create their own party or get flushed down the toilet with them.
SWOOSH!
Reince Priebus. Sound kinda foreign? Anyone check his birth certificate lately?? Does he go to Arizona often?
Good one! Maybe The Donald should send his investigators on another birth certificate hunt.
JCnGAM,
Who cares what nationality his name is because he is NOT running for POTUS?
Actually he's from -- wait for it -- Wisconsin! As is, of course, Paul Ryan. A coincidence? I think not...(obvious sarcasm meant to mock conspiracy birther types ;)
Read between the lines, folks.
The GOP clearly does not see the President as the head of our government. They see him as a rubber stamp to just sign any bills they pass and to veto any from the Democrats. Statements to that effect have been made by several during the primaries in that it didn't matter who was eventually nominated as long as they could get a Republican in the White House. Boehner, Cantor, and others in Congress can call all the shots on their own as long as they have the assurance that what they pass will be signed by the president and can overrule any issues that the Supreme Court has either blocked or supported that they disagree with.
You have effectively hit the nail on the head...the GOPers, ie Rove, Koch Brothers, etc. just want a figurehead to do their bidding and sign what they want signed and to put forward the RIGHT MAN for the next Supreme Court nomination
Your words are actually almost verbatim.
“All we have to do is replace Obama. We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don’t need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don’t need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate. Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become President of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared.”
~Grover Norquist, calling for conservatives to elect a weak President they can use as a puppet, CPAC, February 2012.
You just described Reagan...that man was not the architect of anything and simply a puppet...it has been that way ever since.....other than the last GOP President reported to two bosses, Cheney and Rove
Holy crap, mike. That's as brilliant as it is terrifying.
That Idiott John Boehner want everybody to call him John Bay-Ner ..when we all know its John BOW-NER
If you ever watched the Old Movie Dick Tracey ...He starred a Cameo there as MUMBLES...
The IDIOTT CANNOT Speak ..He just MUMBLES...
B Rated Actor Reagan conferred with Astrologers before making decisions and he had dementia the eight years he was in office. Instead on "Trickle Down" economics, he really meant "I have to go pee"!
Obama/Biden 2012
isn't that what Grover Norquest said. Just need someone who can sign the bills they want without question?
To all my fellow Americans, some words of advice: Vote against anyone with a "R" after their name...
Thomas, Illinois
Okay...Romney - Ryan...did I get that one right?
So Thomas how is that working out for you folks in Illinois? Doesn't appear to be so hot.

"I don't really buy the fact that a pro-abortion stance means that you're pro-women," Priebus said
That is pro-choice Priebus - PRO CHOICE! Its not pro or anti abortion. Its pro letting me and every other woman make her own decisions about her health and her life. Pro choice is pro woman. It allows women to decide for themselves what is best in their particular circumstances. Anti-abortion is anti woman because it assumes women are too stupid to know what is best for them or the ramifications of the decisions they make and they need some man like Akin to tell them how to live their lives.
The only "people" republicans want to leave alone are business and gun owners. They want to control everyone else's lives and especially their women folk. Republicans need to get on board with the reality that women go to school, can read and write, can get an advanced education and practice in professions. Heck, they can even join Augusta National and VOTE. Remember that Priebus - they VOTE and republicans treating them like wayward children isn't going to work in your favor.
I know Anita, I hate it when I hear the Neanderthals call it Pro-Abortion, no one is Pro Abortion. I agree pro-choice is pro-woman.
Regardless of how this simpleton tries to twist logic, what they are telling women is that they know what is best, and they are proposing to let the government enforce that. At the same time, they call for less government. I have never seen a party where EVERY SINGLE STATED VALUE is undercut by the same kind of conflict.
Uhhmm no its Pro- Abortion and Anti-abortion. Its not Pro-choice to not use contraceptive. Its not Pro-Choice for the baby. Not Pro-choice for the father. Its not pro-choice for the family. "Its pro letting me and every other woman make her own decisions about her health and her life" you did in fact make plenty of choices, and NOW those choices have given you life inside of you, life that is just a precious and important as you are. NOW YOU may not think its that important to you, but then again, this is about abortion .... and we don't call it Pro-screw.everybody.else.ima.do.what.i.want
If you want to have freedom of choice, i suggest that you don't get other people involved in YOUR decisions, after-all YOUR human collateral cost should be taken into account.
As for circumstances that are beyond the control of the woman (health issues, rape, incest and the obvious others) OF COURSE there must be the right of a woman whom under NO CHOICE of her own became pregnant. Though I do have to say, its a sad thing to follow a terrible act such as rape with murder, but that is a choice the woman must make.
And BTW pro-abortion IS anti-female. WHHAAA!!! well just ask all the aborted female children in china. Or the women in India that were aborted. And yes even here in the states.
As a note, being that I am far more Conservative in the ideals of governmental powers, I don't think the federal government (and by government i mean YOU) have any enumerated powers of the life choices of american citizens. (yes that means the feds can't charge you with murder, and they don't, its a state issue) That means of course that under my ideal structure you have all the rights to murder your unborn children that you choose. Though If it were my state I would simply ban abortions outright, under ALL circumstances that were not health and survival related. In its place I would allow inducing labor at any time, this would often lead to misscarage as the fetus would often not be viable. BUT it would end late term abortions. (AS A NOTE: it possibly very likely that i would abandon this concept after further investigation, I have a feeling that although the idea sounds nice, it may be far to dangerous for a woman to undergo that procedure.)
I wish I had all the answers of the world. I don't, BUT I DO know one thing, there is NO CHOICE in abortion.
My friend, this is well written. I must say that my stance is probably more strict than yours in that I would not even allow inducing, but as you say, there is no choice in abortion. And riding off what you stated, people cannot be pro choice and say they are not pro abortion - this is not possible.
Libtards, I meant your post was well written. :-)
"well just ask all the aborted female children in china. Or the women in India that were aborted."
I didn't realize we were also debating legislation for the governments of China and India. Guess I should watch the news more closely.
Libtard may have a moderate command of written language, but his logic is beyond flawed. If you choose to BELIEVE that a zygote is fully human and has equal rights above and beyond that of real humans that live outside of a symbiotic relationship, then you may believe that. It has no basis in fact, its just what you believe. And it is not your decsion to force any woman to endure a doomed pregnancy in which anencephaly or some other horrific, unsurvivable condition exists, simply becuase you BELIEVE that the organism has rights. Your beliefs are your own, probably based on some kind of spiritual or internal moral code, and it applies to you and you only. You cannot anticipate every single condition or situation, or the choices those free, US citizen women may be faced with. It is not up to you, and it is not up to the state or the fed. It is settled law in America that it is the decision of the woman in that situation, and no others. I understand your affinity for that human potential, but you are spewing the party line of those that would allow the mother to die, to preserve a fetus, and once he is born, let him die in the street, uneducated, hungry or neglected, and when he fell to a life of crime, would champion his execution. You claim to not know all the answers, and for that I commend you. But you have no right to impose your religious belief on any other citizen who does not consider your faith based ideology as if it were a fact. I would further direct your attention to the reason that Mitt Romney does not endorse the RNC platform, as Mr. Preibus suggests. It's because he practices a faith that is not fundamentally opposed to abortion services. In fact they are grateful for the life saving intervention when it is necessary, and do not punish its female members for ending their pregnancies if it is indicated. You better check closely, or perhaps stay home on election day so as not to offend your sense of morality.
What, did men lose the right to say no? Or were condoms outlawed?
A fetus is not a baby until it can survive on its own outside of the womb - third trimester. I know I will never convince you of it, but you will never convince me to think differently either. I refuse to engage in a debate with people who think a fetus can think, conceptualize God, or even have an opinion on anything. It's as much a fantasy as your religion. There is a God, but your arrogance in thinking you can speak for him/her and dictate his/her thoughts and intentions to everyone is laughable.
Using your reasoning, any time a woman has a mis-carriage she should be charged with negligent homocide and forced to account for her activities and prove her innocence, or provide a doctors report/autopsy showing her innocence.
An absolute Anti-abortion stand without compromise is a religious issue. It makes 'when-life-begins' non-debatable and therefore, unscientific.
I do not understand how anti-abortion supporters can EVER support abortion in ANY circumstance! If the issue is the sanctity of the unborn, then there could never be a reason for abortion. If the argument allowing it under certain circumstances is that the female who was raped or is carrying her brother's child would face too much psychological stress due to an act not of her choosing, you lose the argument for the sanctity of the unborn fetus. Same if you would allow abortion if the born child would be horribly damaged or suffer from extreme physical/mental disabilities.
Imagine the stress of a young woman, even one who consented to sex, who is forced to carry a child to term, knowing that she will end up giving up the child, or that she and the child will be doomed to a life of poverty and welfare, that her life is changed forever, that her chances of further education, a decent job, and a chance for a life with a husband and wanted children is almost nil.
And the kicker, of course, is that most conservatives who adamantly oppose abortion, do not support welfare, food stamps, public schools, etc. and oppose Planned Parenthood, AND have no problems with capital punishment.
Pro-choice is the key word. The choice should be to use proper protection (except instance of rape, which is a very small percent of abortion cases) BEFORE having sex. After you have made a human being (the purpose of sex to begin with) it is too late. You should not have any more right to kill a human being inside the womb as you do outside the womb. There is plenty of proof that a baby is fully formed after just two weeks. PRO-CHOICE IS MAKING THE PROPER DECISIONS BEFORE HAVING SEX, NOT AFTER.
Men should not even be involved in the conversation regarding abortion or contraception. It's not their health, in fact the mother's very life, which is put at risk through child birth. This especially should be true of those men in government such as the members of congress and the various state legislatures.
Good Anita, ditto
Tm423 agreed to a point
The problem with the instance of rape is that then women have to proved that were rape like in MX and Centro America for the courts to allowed the procedure. Then the conservatives push the agenda more and not even to saved the mother life like in Dominican Republic this week.
Men should not be involved?? Men have every right to speak out against the heinous crime of abortion as woman. It is a travesty that plaques our country. No doubt these people who are so for abortion would sooner euthanize their parents when they get past a certain age.
It really bothers me that these republicans want these babies to be born yet they are the first ones to complain when money is needed to take care of them, when the birth parents don't have the money. They don't want to help with their upbringing, but they must be born. It also bothers me that they want the government to stay out of creating regulations for safer work areas, better environments and banking, yet when it comes to a woman or girl and her choices they must be involved. They need to mind their own business and focus on jobs and perhaps getting a better education, because they are not very smart.
That is pure B.S. What I am for is good sex education for children so that they can make good decisions. I am for contraception for any and everybody that desires it. You right wing nutcases pushed this abstinence only crap in schools and want to outlaw contraceptives. This is insane if you want to cut down or potentially eliminate the abortion option. Education and contraceptives cut down the number of unwanted pregnancies. I am not pro abortion but I do not believe I have the right to tell a woman what she can or should do.
You freaks are insane screaming about freedom of religion. What about my freedom FROM YOUR religion?
Corybud - I absolutely agree with your remarks regarding sex education and contraception. I don't necessarily agree that men can not be involved in a decision regarding abortion (assuming the woman was a willing partner) but men also can be responsible for preventing pregnancy. Use a condom. They are cheaper than pills and that way you are taking responsiblity for your own pro-creation and not just making the woman responsible for the whole mess. This is insane. Women are responsible for saying "no," women are responsible for birth control and women are responsible for maintaining any and all pregnancies. If this isn't ultimate paternalism, power and control over women, I don't know what is. It says a woman can have all the opportunities to be who and what she wants to be unless she gets pregnant. Then it is made abundantly clear that every opportunity was granted to her by men and can be just as quickly taken away when it suits them.
I respect all the men and women in this world who do not believe in abortion. Fine - don't have one! At the same time, have the decency to respect the choices and beliefs of others. Not everyone thinks a fetus is a separate human being with rights from conception.
I wonder sometimes how many of these abstinence only crusaders were virgins when they got married, stayed married to the same person, never cheated and only had children they planned.
cheetosnjams - ". Your beliefs are your own, probably based on some kind of spiritual or internal moral code, and it applies to you and you only."
Maybe you missed this line : "As for circumstances that are beyond the control of the woman (health issues, rape, incest and the obvious others) OF COURSE there must be the right of a woman whom under NO CHOICE of her own became pregnant."
And by your logic if I assault a woman and cause here unborn baby to die, what that's just assault right ? NOPE that's murder..... at any trimester. You see, I am not arguing the moral correctness no more than I am arguing the validity of you life now and frankly I finding it slightly ironic that you would try to dismiss my ideals because YOU think it is based on "some kind of spiritual or internal moral code" but its got nothing to do with that at all. Its about rights, MY rights and rights of fathers just like me and the right of a child, unborn or not. See you tend to have the standard liberal ideologically that someone has rights afforded to them "simply becuase you BELIEVE that the organism has rights"
That is a liberal concept and its an idealism that leads to some of histories worst atrocities. Because if you can dismiss an unborn child his rights because he hasn't made it to 6 moths of conception, then what next? Maybe because he is one of those silly religious folks, or maybe because he is rich, or maybe because he doesn't look like you, or maybe YOU seem to think that your rights are more important than his. Large graves has been prepared because of this idealism.
Now you may say "don't be stupid, no one wants to abort babies because they are not like me?"
Margaret Sanger would have disagree when she referred to to immigrants and poor people as"...human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born." Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization
She founded planned parenthood, can we say that she might know a thing or 2 about her motivations?
Ultimately the easiest way of putting this is, If I value life then i must recognize your rights as a human. Those are the right to life, right to free speech, bear arms, and all of those other observed rights.
If I choose to reject your rights, well then shut up and sit down or i will shoot you in the face. Lets call it a 120 trimester abortion shall we.
Luckily most conservatives honor and respect life of all kinds, this ensures that we will respect your rights. And that a good thing...................... cause we have most of the guns. A while back we have a national socialist party who had them all....................... they didn't respect anyone's rights.
In the south we had a bunch of terrible people who thought that black people didn't have rights like Sanger, luckily the civil rights act was forced through with the help of some well mined republicans, and thank god that the democrat that tried so hard to keep it from passing with a filibuster was pushed out of office.... by dying in June 28, 2010
lilrkt - "Men should not even be involved in the conversation regarding abortion or contraception. It's not their health, in fact the mother's very life, which is put at risk through child birth. This especially should be true of those men in government such as the members of congress and the various state legislatures."
So your OK with the government making decisions on a woman's health (via ObamaCare) but not at all concerned with her child's health..... very ironic if you ask me. Maybe it only matters if they are allowed to vote.
Archkat70-2082236 - "What, did men lose the right to say no? Or were condoms outlawed?"your assuming that fathers never want their children, that must make for an interesting family you have there. Good luck with that.
Judy1217 - "And the kicker, of course, is that most conservatives who adamantly oppose abortion, do not support welfare, food stamps, public schools, etc. and oppose Planned Parenthood, AND have no problems with capital punishment."
You tend to misunderstand the reasoning, let me return your statement for you. Me being an idiot:"because liberals want to ban guns, and think that DCMA was a good thing; they want to use the government to kill anyone that doesn't think like them and charge everyone for thinking up stuff"
Kind of stupid to correlate that reasoning isn't it. Maybe if you understood that unending welfare enslaves people to the government, the DOE have failed to keep our educational system as high as it was BEFORE the DOE inception, and Planned parenthood was founded by a nazi sympathizer (oh and most PP offices are in minority areas, but I guess that's all about choosing your client base) and capital punishment is what happens when you forfeit your rights by infringing on others rights.
I find it odd that liberals want to kill humans that have not yet done a single thing to anyone, based on the ideal that they won't have a great life with a mom who doesn't want them (and that is really code for "kill them before they become a burden on THE SYSTEM") but want to ensure that adult criminals are treated better than the homeless person that they just passed on the street, even if that person brutally killed 5 people
That, BTW is how ya roll over libtards.
How do you win an argument with a liberal? Know your history
Libtards 2012:
No, what he's saying is based on "some kind of spiritual or internal moral code" is your unsupported belief that a fertilized egg qualifies as a "child" in the first place. You're simply misusing words in an attempt to appeal to emotion.
As the father of an actual child, I will thank you not to insult my son by implying that a fertilized egg is equal to him.
"The Obama campaign also launched a TV ad making issue of presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's voting record in Congress, which called for stripping funding for Planned Parenthood, and other efforts to curb abortion rights." Kind of ironic, seeing as how the almight bho had at best a dismal voting record in the Senate. I guess Ryan could have just voted "present" like Barry did pretty much everytime he did manage to show up to vote...lol!
Kind of like McCain that voted "present" more than anyone.
Dan - Google, my friend. Google.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/feb/08/sarah-palin/palin-says-obama-voted-present-us-senate-very-ofte/
This stuff is great...I can see Mittens & Pauly jumping up and down saying "we are gonna win, we are gonna win. "
Only to wake up and find out it was all nothing but a dream. The Fundamentalists' Dream.
With any luck Payl Ryan will be zero for two on November 6, 2012. No longer a member of the House and definitely not Vice-President of the United States.
This is too much! Romney and Ryan putting the fun back in the dysfunctional party! ;-)
Obama/Biden 2012
Chuck...you raise a good point....Why is it that politicians are able to keep their current positions when they decide to run for a new office ? I dont know anyone who would be able to take months away from their current job to look for a new one without being fired and at the same time getting paid for the it. It should be mandatory that you resign your current position to seek a new one. That would weed out the nutjobs from BOTH sides of the aisle.
Oh my, oh my, oh my....the entire GOP is attempting to Etch-a-Sketch itself! To quote Jon Huntsman, he whole darn GOP is a "well-oiled weather vane".
Does Priebus actually think people are so stupid they will believe this absolutely ridiculous assertion that the GOP Platform is not Mitt Romney's platform? I mean, why did the GOP nominate Mitt Romney if he's not running on the GOP Platform? You just can't make this stuff up.
"Romney, you can stand on our platform, just make you don't step in that area...or that area....."
What was I thinking - Romney actually stand for something? That will never happen!
Paul Ryan - The Deficit? I Built That!
The natives are restless today, trying to get some traction in order to get some votes.
When I voted for President Obama, one of the things that caught my interest was that he was against gay Marriage and for Traditional Man to Woman Marriage. This was totally against his Liberal Platform, was it NOT?
I don't expect for Romney and or Ryan to agree or disagree with everything in the Republican platform. This should be the way for any party.
The Left wing is just trying to hang on to any little thing that they can to get some points back, with the help of NBC posts.
I don't expect to change anyone mind on this site, and this site should not expect to change my mind at this point by campaigning for the Liberal Wing.
It is wriiten that the theme for the Convention is on the I built This!!!!
I'm sorry but going through 3 pregnancies I would never regard that as a Health Issue. I will be clear and say that all life begins when you notice it. Also if a woman is pregnant and she has to abort because of an Illness than that is her call and no one else.
Last, this still a close race and either one can win at this point. So go ahead and vent your frustrations on this site.
Concern Citizen-856329:
Um no actually very few Democrats at the national level supported gay marriage at that point either.
LOL... just LOL. If you don't regard pregnancy as having an impact on a woman's health, then I call BS on your having gone through it 3 times. The health implications are very, very obvious to anyone who's paying attention, even a man.
Wow... how frighteningly solipsistic of you.
Prince Rebus sounds like a huckster - "Hey, don't worry about all that fine print and what these guys are saying. That stuff isn't important, you can ignore it." And then, once the gullible Republik party members vote for them, wham - it all comes back. These guys are shameless.
@skip: Fantastic anagram!
Comparing the gop war on women to a "war on caterpillars" is just ONE of the infamous Preibus statements he makes almost daily. Mitt OWNS these radical idealogue's platform and can't run away from it anymore then he can keep trying to run away from "Romneycare" in MA or what his policies and views were since 1994 to now.
Ted Kennedy as SO RIGHT when he stated: "I am PRO-CHOICE and Mr. Romney is multiple choice" in the 1994 debates when the question was raised on each candidate's stance on abortion rights.
Mitt has flipped and back-pedalled and lied too many times to COUNT from the bad reality show called the gop debates to his being selected as the gop frontrunner. I am STILL waiting to see those tax rtns as they must be a LULU.
Obama/Biden and a REAL Democratic majority in BOTH HOUSES for 2012 or we are F-----D.
GOP = Freak Show!!!
Sorry, Mitt. You own the GOP Platform. You are the leader of the GOP Platform. Women aren't going to allow the Romney/Ryan platform to take us back decades in our fight for equal rights, equal pay and control over our bodies and health care decisions. Obama 2012.
Obama 2012!!!!
I do like the picture though..."Excuse me, is this the way to the mens room?"
For some reason, the song "Sidestep" from the movie"Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" comes to mind. As Romney and the GOP try to "dance a little sidestep". ;-)

Careful Larry (wide stance) Craig may be in there tapping his foot.
The GOP is pro life, but not pro child. If your going to be pro-life you need to be pro child, and not cutting education !
Jenny, if Republicans were truly pro-life, wouldn't they care about clean air, clean water, and safe food, you think?
But no, Republicans are anxious to remove any and all regulations that are in place to keep our water clean, our air free of pollution, and our food supply safe.
Republicans are not so much "pro-life" as they want to control everyone and limit what choices we can make for ourselves, more like Republicans are "pro-bondage".
Obama/Biden 2012
American girl...I'm curious about why Libs say that being Pro Life is about limiting womens choices???
Do you thnik that the BABY that's being KILLED in an abortion should have no CHOICE..
Maybe Libs should make their choices before getting pregnant......
Or Raped!
lforst - How many times have you been pregnant?
This is what I don't get. The republicans are all over the map in that they want to cut all social safety nets that help the poor, disabled, elderly and otherwise disadvantaged just to give additional tax cuts to the already well off. Then they are against sex education, contraception and abortion which will cause more unwanted pregnancies and demand for the services they want to gut.
You nut cases need to understand cause and effect.
TO: lforst who wrote:
Either way lforst, it's simply none of your business!
Why would any man, woman OR child want YOU in their personal and private business? Republicans' beef against abortions never fed or clothed a child, never provided a meal or any education for a child, no, all Republicans want to do is rule a woman's womb and once a woman bears that child Republicans disappear and start with the gossip of the woman being a single parent and unable to care for the child, with absolutely NO help whatsoever from big mouth, nosey Republicans who want to be everybody's boss!
All Republicans do is talk dirty about EVERYBODY and dodge any payment of their fair share of taxes!
YOUR personal approval or disapproval is NOT wanted, nor appreciated.
Now, how many ways and how many times do you need the United States Supreme Court to remind you of that?
(Roe v. Wade)
Obama/Biden 2012
lforst:
Here's your problem, you're misapplying the term "baby" to something that lacks the capacity for choice, or for cognitive activity of any kind. This is a logical fallacy known as "appeal to emotion".
Happy to help.
Democrats are always seen as the dreamers of a "utopian society" on Earth. And yet the republicans truly believe that EVERY unwanted child born will be blessed with an immediate and loving family. Just more liberal dreams.
I agree. Do we project a rise in child abuse/(excuse me for being blunt)trash babies?
FRED adn ALICE I think you are missing a major point of the article. Democrats and Republicans don't always make decisions based upon their political affiliation. Some Democrats are pro and some anti. Some Republicans are pro and some anti. Lumping people together by politcal party on this issue seems silly. It is a personal issue that each person decides for their particular family situation, usually without regard to what party they belong to. I think people usually consider their religous beliefs above political party. So if a pregnant teenage girls gets pregnant does she think, What will my political party affiliates think? I must be a true democrat or republican, so I will let my party decide my childs fate.
Yes Karl! And if I may add:
Not only conservatives are christians.
Not only liberals are gay.
(Wow! A complete Flip-Flop in the same sentence! The last one above. That's gotta be a new Romney Flip-Flop Speed Record!)

More political theater that is almost impossible to make work in the real world. How are you going to determine citizen of a foreign national on vacation in the USA at time of conception?
That is EASY..Given the IRREFUTABLE SCIENTIFIC FACT that an embryo or a fetus is NOT a human being but a parasite with human characteristics(no higher on the food chain than a lamprey or leech and its NOT a human until it is birthed and the cord is cut and it is surviving under its own power. Itmakes your entire point moot. Say what you want but those are cold hard FACTS...Here endeth the lesson that everyone should know by the time they're 8
Many remain a leech and a parasite their whole lives.
Abortion is simply interrupting the LIFE CYCLE of a human being. Just because some SCIENTIST knocked up some broad and didn't want to face up to his responsibility doesn't make what he said a fact. ANYBODY THAT BELIEVES IN ABORTION IS A MURDERER. And you MEN ( I use the term lightly) out there..... If you were responsible, there would be NO UNWANTED PREGNANCIES. Wear a condom, use a spermicide, keep your dick in your pants, quit blaming women.

The problem is women should decide themselves because LIBERALEUALSCRETIN your whole comment is based upon scientific fact. The problem with that is people make decisions based upon their religion, their faith, their morals and values, not just what you call Scientific Fact. There was a time when scientific fact was irrefutable that the world was flat. It only became known not to be true when other scientific facts trumped the logic. I am not telling you your wrong for your opinion, but your opinion should only affect your family decisions and not others.
When emotion over rides reality and logic is when major problems occur
And it NOT an opinion sir its basic biology .They actually used to teach science in schools...
Jim Overlin-it takes 2 to make a baby-it's not the man's fault alone or the woman's fault alone. Both consenting parties should know they have to use some form of contraception. If you are not going to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, then don't have sex. If a man does not have a condom, then it is the woman's responsibility to say either use one, get one or she may provide one..or say no to sex. The same with a man-if the woman is not using some form of birth control-you say no unless there is some form of BC used. It is the fault of both for unwanted pregnancies, and if you get pregnant because of being irresponsible, then deal with it without murdering a baby. There are other options out there.
Kanic its NOT murder..no more than stepping on an ant is murder..Sicne NO human is involved it cant be murder ..I love GED toting dolts.. But you are right overlin is a nutbar with serious fiesty redheaded pig issues
But why do republicans hate america so much?
TO: Tom-1002719 who wrote:
You wouldn't happen to be referring to a woman who has a child out of wedlock in order to avoid having an abortion would you, cause they both certainly would need a lot of help, starting with some affordable health insurance (Obamacare), food, clothing, education -- OH WAIT, Republicans want to get rid of the Department of Education so that they don't have to bear the burden of educating CHILDREN!
Obama/Biden 2012
American Girl ..You DO realize like everyone else that you're a complete and total dolt ? Have another one of your foo- stamp purchased twinkies and munch down another cheeseburger while your pudgy little fingers attempt to type your 7th grade intellect level illiterate wisdom between shifts at your Mcjob..Now hush up and go make the fries..the drive thru is backing up
liberalequalscretin, you talk about American Girl not being very bright, but yet the only intelligent comment you can make is for her to go and make fries. You don't even know where she works I bet. Just plain nonsense. And then you mention about her 7th grade intellect level, you don't sound much smarter, as a matter of fact you're ridiculous. Romney could use you on the campaign trail, you will fit right in.
There is an extremely high probability that like all these paid trolls she is either unemployed or makes minimum wage... Has maybe a HS diploma.. or maybe dropped out of some bull@!$%# community college. 5'4' 220 no friends... Its easy to peg people..And BTW I have a PhD and pay more for my shoes than you did for your car and I am NEVER wrong about anything..ever
I am convinced that people like liberalequalscretin and other Rightys like him/her have had intellectual lobotomies as required by their GOP Mullahs, so they are now incapable of posting anything but insults and pre-written Party Talking Points.
(These are also the same folks who have also undergone humor-ectomies! Which would certainly explain how easy it is for The GOP Mullahs to control them.)
How's that lobotomy workin' out fer ya liberalequalscretin? (Wipe the drool off your chin before you answer.)
jim overlin:
By the same logic, so is preventing the sperm from reaching the egg by using a condom. Preventing a human being from coming into existence is not equivalent to killing one.
There are no reasonable criteria for qualification as a "human being" that could possibly be satisfied by a fertilized egg. Any definition of "human being" that could be applied to both fertilized eggs and actual human beings would have to be so ludicrously broad as to be meaningless.
karl-917535:
Actually no, that "fact" was never arrived at scientifically. When people began actually applying science, the flat-earth theory was shot down pretty readily.
