Now that said, let's look at the history of Gov. Romney's trash talk. It started to get more publicity during the primaries. He never bothered to stop what he knew were false attacks by his subordinates or spokespeople. He never asked other republican pundits to hold off on the inappropriate attacks or rhetoric. The negativity by the Romney campaign started BEFORE the general election.

Of course President Obama is going to speak out. Think back to the swiftboating of Kerry. What happened there because he was slow to fight back? Also, the President has actually complimented both Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, calling them "good men" and "good family men" on more than one occasion. Note that neither has said anything polite about him.

The cruel impoverishment of the debate among the presidential and congressional candidates took a gigantic leap into the pits with Mitt Romney’s selection of 42-year-old Rep. Paul Ryan from the deindustrialized town of Janesville, Wisconsin. Ryan is invariably described by reporters as “an intellectual leader of the conservative movement” and by fellow Republicans as a person “who tells the hard truths” to the American people.

The truth is that what has distinguished this fast-talking, glib, Ayn Rand-smitten, congenial young man is that he has a plan for the federal budget. On Capitol Hill that fact alone makes one a “stand-out” in the field of political narcissists whose mental tank harbors gaseous one-liners and kneejerk slogans.

The Ryan budget plan is a Koch brothers’ dream and the American peoples’ nightmare. It leads with a lie – namely to control deficit spending by continuing it for at least 30 more years before his concoction of big tax cuts for the rich, further increases in the already bloated defense budget, and savage cuts in public services for the people, somehow balance the budget around mid-century.

Ryan’s brain is chock-full of such cognitive dissonance that it would blow a normal person’s mind. He is a practicing Catholic, but since his youth has been a disciple of the militant atheist Ayn Rand who despised altruism and “love thy neighbor” values while edifying extreme selfishness and greed.

His plan for social security is social insecurity. Make people work longer before receiving curtailed benefits, invest trillions of dollars of these funds in the volatile stock market and make sure that rich people only have to pay social security taxes on a fraction of their earned income.

He would open the floodgates on future Medicare to the rapacious health insurance companies through a voucher system whereby the elderly are fed to these sharks with ever-higher co-pays. His “block grant plan alone would lead states to drop between 14 and 27 million people (the poor and those with disabilities) from Medicaid by 2021,” according to the Urban Institute.

As a 16-year-old youngster, Ryan and his family were helped by social security when his father passed away. So why now impose this draconian crunch on these three major programs? Ryan says that this is the only way to preserve social security, Medicare and Medicaid for future generations. Very well, Mr. Ryan, then why have you refused to civilly debate your proposals and their consequences with any of your critics inside and outside the Congress before a national television audience?

I requested that you have this important exchange in three letters (see Nader.org). Finally, your office demurred on the grounds that you were too busy. Are you really too busy to debate your plan which has passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and has been generally endorsed by Mitt Romney? Or are you too fearful of trying to defend your numbers and their plutocratic values to the likes of Princeton professor and Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, who has called the Ryan budget “the most fraudulent in American history”?

Cognitive dissonance proliferates. His hometown has been devastated by pull-down trade agreements yet he supports NAFTA and the World Trade Organization. He sees himself as a fiscal hawk while being an armchair warrior and military hawk (he wants to stay and win in Afghanistan). He offers “to restore the dreams and greatness of America” but opposes both public works projects to repair America and environmental health standards so Americans can breathe, drink, eat and work more safely.

He proposes deep cuts in widespread hunger alleviating food stamps. He opposes the minimum wage while he fights to eliminate or reduce taxes on capital gains and other taxes on the already undertaxed very-wealthy who have poured money into his and other Republicans’ campaign kitties.

He professes to be against crony capitalism, but he voted for the giant Wall Street bailouts and other bailouts and giveaways that define what real conservatives find so offensive.

An outraged David A. Stockman, President Reagan’s first director of the Office of Management and Budget, dismisses Ryan’s conservative credentials. He said that Calvin Coolidge, Herbert C. Hoover, Senator Robert A. Taft, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and even Gerald A. Ford “would have had no use for the neoconservative imperialism…”

“In short,” wrote Stockman in The New York Times, “Mr. Ryan’s plan is devoid of credible math or hard policy choices…. Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have no plan to take on Wall Street, the Fed, the military-industrial complex, social insurance or the nation’s fiscal calamity and no plan to revive capitalist prosperity – just empty sermons.”

So Mr. Ryan is a closet corporatist who won’t even urge cracking down on the hundreds of billions of dollars that companies defraud the federal government every year, including documented fraud on Medicare, Medicaid and the Defense Department.

If the Democrats can’t use the Ryan budget as their ticket to victory this November in Congress and the White House, then they are truly the terminally decaying party of caution, cash and cowardliness.

In reality, the Ryan budget, thrown right in the face of the American people, is the ultimate test of what’s left of the Democrats besides their donkey.

While campaigns are often messy, I think what really happened here is that the Republicans started right off with false claims because if they don't they will lose. They created most of this debt, they act like Obama is running it up, even though as Forbes points out, Obama has spent less than any president since Eisenhower. The economy has recovered to some degree from the Bush debacle, we are out of Iraq and getting out of Afghanistan, etc. The Republicans have killed every initiative and corrupted others ever since the mid-terms. As a psychiatrist I bring, for better or worse, the observation that this is classic projection: to attribute one's own fear and loathing, for example, not to one's self, but to the other: "it's not me, it is that person doing this to me". The reason the 2008 campaign was so "clean" was because Obama had no record (actually few accomplishments at all other than writing his autobiographies and being one heck of a community organizer. The first government in this country i believe were actually several governments run by native American Indians. Those governments were massacred by the civil Europeans. The House does write the appropriations bills that control spending, BUT, they need agreement from the Senate, which is controlled by the Democrats. The House has passed most of the appropriations bills the past two years, yet the Senate has not. It takes both the Senate and the House and the Presidents signature to pass a law.

Because of the Senate's inaction on appropriations bills and a budget, Congress passes continuing resolutions and have for the past 3 or 4 years. Actually the Senate has failed in their Constitutional requirement to pass a budget or reconciliation of appropriations bills. The President can and does spend the money from the continuing resolution given by Congress.

This election is almost a mirror copy of both 1996 and 2004. Neither Dole or Kerry forced the incumbents to run solely on their record. If the voting populace had done that, Clinton maybe would have had more of a challenge and Dubya would've been a one term POTUS like his daddy. This voucher system is designed to put spark back in to the stocks without regulations, to keep salaries at a minimum wages (which are not able to support the necessary expenses for today's needs), and finally, to make more money available for the hedge funders to steal creating an even wider disparity among what classes are left.

Let's not forget, too, that Romney used extremely negative campaign techniques against other Republicans before he was elected to represent his Party.

I have been watching all of our politicians off and on for years. I have never made a comment because the stupidity of the political "Games" they all play is not even worth mentioning. They will never hear it anyway. They will continue spouting off to each yelling and screaming at each other like children. They focus more on what they need to say to make each other look worse than they do rather than focusig on the issues. If these so called politicians spent as much time focusing on the problems of the United States as they do working on their next comebacks, then this nation would be a lot better off than it is. The economy would be fixed. Healthcare would be fixed. For all the "politicians" out there I have one piece of advice if you ever have the ability to open your minds and hear it. Stop pointing your fingers at everyone else and point it at your own selves maybe with a little accountability you can then start focusing on those you are supposed to be a service to and not a hinderence.

Right now we pay $10 for a prescription and medicare picks up the balance (usually from 100-150 dollars if you look it up). The GOP and Bush never funded Part D and Romeny would drop it, their supplements do not cover drugs!! So right now you spend maybe 20-30 dollars a month on drugs, hows it gonna feel when it costs 1000-2000 for the same drugs??

I guess no one ever stopped to see how Part D works, they just think drugs got cheap.. Nope the government (unfunded mandate) pays the difference between the pharmacy program and the actual cost. Heck it a appears that some of the big drug store chains are only there for the drug programs, they sure don't try very hard to sell anything else.

And onther simple thing: Neither Rommey or Ryan ever have to worry about health care, theirs are guarranteed free for life, and you think they would understand your problems?? Give me a break. While they put their little smiles on their faces the laugh about how they are screwing you and I. Heck a $300,000 simple broken bone accident is pocket change to Rommey while it breaks a retirees entire savings.

PROBLEM – Ryan's budget does not balance until 2040, another 28 years of adding debt. But his revenue plan counts on an unemployment falling to 3% - a level we haven't seen in 50 years. So if your child has just graduated college he/she will be 50 before we even begin to pay on our National debt that will be $25 trillion by then. Most experts say that under the Ryan plan the soonest the debt could be paid off would be 2080 but most likely 2100 – 90 years from now, so your grandchildren will have a country that is deep in debt their entire lives.

German, he improved things dramatically from when he took office. My business is certainly doing much better, though not as good as in the Clinton years. Did you know that the majority of food stamp spending goes to rural areas in Red states? Most people don't. People lost their incomes with Bush, they spent down their savings and then the Republicans blocked all attempts at fixing things.

Obama's first two years were largely focused on stabilizing the banks and the Affordable Care Act. He had to do the latter becuase the states were drowning in indigent care costs and the high cost to business of insuring their employees after many years of double digit premium increases was making it hard to hire and making America less competitive.

You might as well save your breath, the more your side complains the more the truth will get repeated, because that's all the Democrats really have to do.

For the President Obama proposed budget the latest projection is that it will be $18.7 trillion by 2021. Nearly the same as the Romney/Ryan proposed budget(s).

I want to know what is Washington going to do about revising the tax codes, stop duplication of programs, reduce spending, and tell us what their foreign policy and energy policy is. That is where the discussions should be, not on PROPOSED or nonexistent budgets.

We have hundred of millions in vacant federal buildings controlled by the GSA, we have the GAO Reports identifying billions in waste, fraud and duplication of programs, and now we have the IG for the IRS identifying billions in wrongful returns to prisoners and illegals. I would love to have some facts thrown our way...Where are the plans the Republicans have for creating jobs? And don't say tax cuts...Bush even gave them 10 yrs and nothing happened with job creation..Zip! Now they want another 10 yr extension that will increase the deficit by one trillion dollars? Thought republicans were concerned about the deficit? What are the plans of the Republicans to restore the middle class that has been getting wiped out ? Specifics, please. What are their plans to address deficit reduction? What specifically, should be done to prevent a re-occurance of what big banks and Wall Street did to bring on the BIG Recession during Bush's rein?
