GLEN ALLEN, VA -- Returning to Virginia for the first time since being named Mitt Romney's running mate, Paul Ryan emphasized the importance of this key swing state in the November election.
“Virginia is a very important state – you have heard it from everybody,” the Wisconsin congressman told the crowd inside Deep Run High School just outside of the state’s capitol. “This is a state that has it all, and this is a state that will determine it all and we have a clear choice.”
These remarks echoed those the presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee gave Thursday night at a fundraisers in downtown Richmond.
"Virginia has an enormous influence on this. And thank heavens our fate is in the hand in Virginians and not anybody else. And I want to thank you for that, for what you've done, and I want to thank you for what you're about to do because you're going to help save this country by bringing these electoral votes for Mitt Romney," he said.
Friday’s two public stops here in the Old Dominion mark Ryan’s fourth and fifth campaign rallies in Virginia, after having held three events with Romney last Saturday. Several polls here have Romney and President Barack Obama in a dead heat. If Obama wins only Virginia and New Hampshire (and maintains Wisconsin and Pennsylvania), Romney would have to win ALL of the following states to win enough electoral votes to become president: NV, CO, IA, OH, NC and FL.
Since being tapped as VP nearly a week ago, the Romney-Ryan ticket has raised more than $10 million dollars with nearly 125,000 donations, the campaign said this morning. Ryan’s new role has also increased volunteer turnout and site traffic for the campaign.
Virginia Gov. McDonnell – who was passed over as Romney’s VP – told the roughly 2,500 person crowd that Ryan is the right man to be Romney’s No. 2 and turn Virginia red in November.
“I’m so excited about Paul Ryan’s pick. This is a man of immense character. He’s been in public service since he graduated from college,” McDonnell began. “He’s got a stake in the future of this country. I think he’s a tremendous leader at the right time to help get America get back to work and out of debt.”
With just 82 days left before the election, tomorrow, Ryan heads to the battleground state of Florida where he will be joined by his mother – Betty Douglas – for a rally at The Villages outside of Orlando. Ryan is expected to discuss Medicare as Florida’s population has a significant senior voter population.

Bravo. You have managed to alienate all the other swing in one statement..........
“This is a state that has it all, and this is a state that will determine it all and we have a clear choice.”
So it is apparent that Team Romney/Ryan has either given up on winning any other swing state, or Ryan will take his cue from Romney and Etch-A-Sketch his statement when he goes to the next swing state and tells them that: “This is a state that has it all, and this is a state that will determine it all and we have a clear choice.”
Both of those two are a laughing stock.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
The third-party candidate who could derail Mitt Romney
"And thank heavens our fate is in the hand in Virginians and not anybody else."
Well, gee, then I guess I might as well just stay home on November 6th, huh?
How much you want to bet that when Ryan comes here, all of a sudden it will be "And thank heavens our fate is in the hand in Pennsylvanians and not anybody else."?
Where are you getting this information? RedSox, you are on another planet, or have been watching Fox News Propaganda for this.Hillary turning down VP? Never happened. I don't know what a doner is, but I can spell donor. the other two stories are urban legends.
"What do you think about the Rasmussen or Gallup polls since I know you love polls so much."
You mean this one? Like, from today? Nice "bounce" from adding Ryan to the ticket, huh?
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows President Obama attracting support from 46% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns the vote from 45%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.
This is the first time in 10 days that Obama has had the lead.
Well, it appears your Republican pollster has your pet chameleon behind in the race. It looks like the Ryan bounce was in the wrong direction. And now the chameleon and the boy toy are kind of like your Red Sox....below .500 with no chance to win the pennant.
Yes, your arguments are sooooooo strong. Once America gets a week-long dose of the hate fest that poses as the Republican National Convention, expect a much larger drop in the polls. When it comes to political discourse, Republicans invented angry & desperate. It's all they've got.
No Bain/No Pain 2012.
In November the "Golden Boys" will have struck out. Mitt just keep hacking away at those pitches. Too bad everything you and your GOTP pals are throwing at the President are being belted out of the park.
Yes JoJo that poll and Gallup. You do notice that Obama has well below 50%. How does that usually work out for an incumbent?
You need to take your advice RedSox.
When Ryan makes a statement saying that "this is a state that will determine it all" (referring to VA) it reads as if VA would more impact than any other swing state. The key word is 'all'.
Cons are more fun than a barrell of
monkeysrepublicans.....................But please keep posting more inane comments as you are fast becoming the poster child for the ignorance that is the republican party.
redsuxrule Thank you for letting the world see how classy the republican/tea bag party. With you as a spokesman you must make them all real proud. Thank You for for selling all of us on your party. Yes you make your party look as good as you.
There are no more independents left, it's all going to be about the ground game.
Obama is spending a ton on the ground game.
Obama/Biden 2012
The GOP has "extreme buyers remorse" with Ryan . Asking if he was fully vetted by anyone other then Romney .And now the questions about Romney's vetting..he "their candidate "wasn't vetted by anyone! What a mess ! A certain set of brothers are furious with how badly this has been bungled !These people expect a return on their huge investments ...Even Macau is now concerned enough to be asking questions of his intent !
Poor nomorebraincells. You just don't have much of a command of the king's English, do you.
Smitty, I have to speak at a level that libbys can understand, although it seems that is even lower than I expected based on the poor arguments liibbys put forth.

You would be the stupid one to elect a man that would put your daughter in jail on murder if she didn't want to have the baby by your brother who raped her.

At least 51%, although i'm hoping for more.
Seems Ryan/Romney has a little credibility problem. The Tax Policy Center (NON-partisan) concluded that Romney's plan DOES INDEED raise taxes on 95% of Americans, but would be a ...surprise surprise...boon for the wealthy.

Ryan is young and will give anyone a quick BJ for a vote, relax Virginia he said the same to the people in Iowa.
He's here in Florida tomorrow. I'm willing to bet he uses the same stupid line again!
It's written out on a Q-card for him.

Ed Klein seems to be saying he has insider knowledge.
It's true, or it's not true- doesn't matter. Ryan is the first member of Generation X to run for national office- and he represents the group that will pay for all the Obama spending.
Makes the choice pretty clear.
You mean all the spending he helped create? Maybe he should just hold out his hand for more stimulus money.
RedSuxRule (the cellar)-
I don't know, Rob, why don't you ask GW Bush how it worked our for him? In 2004 he was behind Kerry until late in August, then "swift-boated" his way to the lead.
Romney is already trying the same tactic, trotting out Republican politicians who used to be Navy SEALS to lie about President Obama. It won't work this time, Obama won't take it lying down - and it will just remind everyone that Osama Bin Laden is dead.
Plus, it will be hard to convince anyone you are seriously upset about politicizing Bin Laden's death..... by politicizing Bin Laden's death.
NJNB-
Gen X'ers are smart enough to know that after paying into Medicare all these years exchanging it for a "voucher" in order to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy is not a good deal. They won't fall for that "shell game".
Don't forget that Paul Ryan is more responsible for the debt than Obama. Ryan voted for almost all of it - Bush Tax Cuts, TARP, auto bailout, stimulus package.....
Paul Ryan: The Deficit? I Built That!
Romney/Ryan: Medicare? We Can
FixEnd That!O my god, nomoresameo, are you that naive, or are you on the DNC payroll? I mean, anybody with eyes and ears is rolling on the floor laughing these days at the supreme clown, the king of the gaffe, Joe Biteme. I'd pay admission to hear this guy undermine his own campaign with some of the most dumb-assed remarks ever to issue from a politician's mouth.....it's a rare gift he possesses!
I happen to have watched that video- which looks like it will hit a million views today- and you could not be more wrong in repeating that DNC talking point.
The Kerry ads were centered around opposing opinions of Kerry's actions. Some saw heroic actions- some saw the opposite.
The Seal video focuses entirely on Obama's actions after the raid. Had he waited a week- heck, 72 hours would have done it- the intelligence gathered during that raid could have been used to cripple, if not knock out, Al Queda completely. By taking to the airwaves immediately, Obama rendered moot all the the intelligence gained- once the word went out, the rest of the Al Queda leadership headed for the hills, and the safety to attack us again.
Had Obama waited, he would have had a much better announcement- he could have announced that he had totally destroyed Al Queda. Instead, he went for the "one shot"- then invited Hollywood in and gave them enough information that a helicopter with Seal Team Six on board was shot down, and all were killed, thanks to loose lips and wagging tongues.
They were making a movie, for crying out loud.
How many minds will be changed by this video? Not yours, certainly, and not mine.
Personally, I still think this election is all about the economy- and Obama certainly has failed there.
Virginia has a large population who works in DC. These folks tend to vote Democratic. There is sizable minority population who also tends to vote Democratic.
Virginia is taken - Democratic in November.
Then GOP can claim the governor's mansion - this has happened for more than 3 election cycles: whoever takes the White House, the other party takes the prize of governor's mansion.
How has he failed? Tell me what laws he has proposed in the past two years that made it through the House. I'm waiting.
no joe, no bo, nj

i don't remember see obama spend 1.2 trillion on tax cuts, or 1 trillion on wars or piss away the surplus Clinton left.

The "Swift Boating" of Obama is Bogus:

What a waste of time from the Republican mud slinging factory.
NJNB-
I agree with you on this one. Almost everyone's mind is already made up, my point is that to those few who only tangentially pay attention to political ads they will remember "oh that's right. Obama killed Osama".
I beg to differ - a few key facts:
Unemployment: 10.1% in October 2009, the highest rate since 1983 and roughly twice the pre-crisis rate. Since then, steadily reduced to around 8.3%
Stock Market: Dow Jones was at 6,600 in March 2009. It has since recovered - over 12,000 during most of 2011, over 13,000 in 2012.
GDP: GDP growth of 2.2% in Jan. 2008 rapidly declined to a negative growth rate of -5% in 2009. Growth rates have been positive since then to a high of 3.5% before settling to a rate of around 2% growth per quarter.
Home Values: US Home Values declined by almost 25% from Jan. 2007 thru Feb. 2012. The rate of decline slowed and homes values have increased for the last 4 months, with June reporting the first year-over-year increase since 2007.
So President Obama has only failed if your definition of failure is "not fast enough".
The true failure is the failed policies of the Bush administration that led to this debacle, those very same policies that Romney wants us to return to - "on steroids".
Obama has:
Signed the NDAA bill into law allowing the assassination of any us citizen without trial
Allowed 30,000 Spy drones to be flown over American skies
Obama has signed over 1000 Executive Orders since he took office (Thanks to that, it's now illegal to collect rain water)
Obama has killed hundreds of innocent people (including 3 Americans) with drone strikes he has ordered in Pakistan And Yemen.
Obama has raised the National debt Nearly $5 TRILLION.
Obama by-passed congress to enable the Dream Act allowing 1 Million ILLEGAL aliens to become legal citizens (thanks to those he allowed to become citizens, they have committed 19 murders and 142 sex crimes)
Lied About all of His 2008 Campaign Promises Including the One Where He said he campaigned in 57 states.
Google Search "Dreams from my REAL father" and you'll see, Obama's father was a failed communist who's dream was to DESTROY America, at age 18, Obama went to a MARXIST school.
Jeff Kind of harsh there buddy with the insults.
[you are a miserable old hag that need to go away and melt like the wicket witch of the west!!!!]
Uh oh...seems NoJo isn't feeling the love today. No diff than any other day, right NoJo?
Did she mention she was a Hillary supporter? No?
Did she mention that she has a "vacation house" in Key West? Yes...that Liberal bastion that is Key West...
Did she also mention that she is a retired school teacher pulling down a BIG, FAT teachers pension, compliments of the New Jersey taxpayer? No?
Hmmm...sounds like a "libbie" to me...right NoJo?
Yeah, you know I'm right. Just remember...you can run, but you can't hide.
These are just a few of the things she doesn't lie about...but you can ask her how she pulls paragraphs from chain emails (you know the ones...they wind up in most people's spam folders) and tries to pass them off as her own. Of course this makes her look like a liar, but she doesn't care...there are other idiots here that believe her.
Yeah, a real class act, that NoJo...just like Governor Christie, who, by the way, is gonna have some 'splainin to do about his states unemployment rate, and has a revenue shortfall..
But he claims "Everything's juuuuuuust fine"...
Christie is toast...yummy, golden, buttered-up rye toast...with caraway seeds...

Jeff Kind of harsh there buddy with the insults.
I'm sick and tired of that old lady x-teacher having selective memory when it comes as to how we(america) got into this mess. she puts every thing on the president even though we were in a sh*t hole when he took office.
the housing market was in the trash, we were loosing 700k jobs a month, we were in 2 wars spending billions we did not have, but what got me fired up is this statement,
It's true, or it's not true- doesn't matter. Ryan is the first member of Generation X to run for national office- and he represents the group that will pay for all the Obama spending.
this pissed me off.
she is a old hag that needs to shut here pompus pie hole up!!!!!
And yesterday i learned that Ryan lived off the system when he was growing up, he like me lost our father at a early age and had to depend on the goverment to get by(ss survivers benifets) and this goof wants to take away what helped him get where he is.
what a fraud and goof!!!!
F6Z A thousand executive orders? Not Quite
He has signed 134 EO since becoming president
Since you lied about that I suspect your other "Facts" are just as inaccurate.
Jeff this is still America where everyone has a right to their opinion. You don't need to resort to childish name calling to disagree with her, we should be better than that. Both sides have selective memories as to how we got in the mess.
Isn't this the state where the Governor wants women to get a "trans-vaginal probe" ultrasound (read: rape) before they can get an abortion...even if it is a result of incest or rape?
Heck of a job, Party of No.
It's pretty straightforward...Wisconsin, Virginia, Ohio ->republican governors working with their legislature on matters of governing, education, economy, jobs are benefitting all of their constituents. California, Illinois with democratic governors and legislatures are falling far behind tending to social agenda matters and ignoring education and the economy. An objective view allows voters to see clearly why the majority of Americans know the US is on the wrong path and will stay on the wrong path until competency is restored to the legislative and executive branches of federal government.
Let me guess, Paul Ryan is helping to get the Vaginal Probe vote.
Those deleted posts must have been about the economy lol. It won't be as easy to delete the $16,000,000,000,000.00 taxpayer debt lol
You know, German, Reagan proved that deficits don't matter.
Your friend, Dick.
I live in Virginia and received a call drumming up support for Romney. After I politely informed him it would be a cold day in hell before I ever voted for that pri*k he decided he no longer wanted talk. Was it something I said?
While the title "Deficit Hawk" has been tattooed on Paul Ryan it is far from what his Congressional voting record reflects. During the Bush administration's "runaway spending" and with Congress in full Republican control for six years Ryan voted for all the major spending bills including the $700 billion TARP bill, the unfunded $1 trillion Medicare expansion bill, two large tax cuts ($100+ billion/year) without any offsets and two unfunded wars.
POLITICO: He was enthusiastic, earnest, courteous and well-informed. Rep. Paul Ryan, in other words, certainly knew how to play the role of a sleeves-rolled-up, problem-solving deficit hawk as a member of the high-profile Simpson-Bowles budget commission.
In the end, however, that was not the role Ryan chose to play — he was more of a loyal GOP partisan who wasn't willing to step out on his own.
After beginning as an energetic participant on the Simpson-Bowles commission, he finished up as an energetic participant in the ideological stalemate that doomed its work to failure.
Skeptics say this record—combined with Ryan's emphatically ideological approach as chairman of the House Budget Committee—undermines Romney's claim in an interview on this weekend's "60 Minutes" broadcast that Ryan "is a man who's dedicated the last 14 years working in Washington in ways that are not highly partisan or political but are instead focused on the right course for America."
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/79724.html?hp=t1
Any Republican that signs the Norquist pledge is a fraud when it comes to being a "deficit hawk." As long as any and all revenue increases are "off the table" so too will any Republican credibility on this issue be off the table.
Dennis,
How about Eddie, bald faced lying about asking for stimulus funds?
Think we'll see anything here on FR about this?
Have we sunk so low as a collective, we'll sit back and accept this?
Feisty,
Since he said he didn’t know anything about the request, that his staff requested the funds all we need now is video of him talking up the funds he brought home.
Enough said.
We are already seeing them formulate their response. They will pull out the Queen Ann victim card, and claim The Twinkies made him do it.
The Romney Campaign = "Returning America to the 50's one voucher at a time".
Like our dear friend from FairFux?
I can picture him sucking the cream out of the center & discarding the cake! ;o)
Little Paulie the "economist" voted for TARP because he knew that "W" overplayed his hand with the tax cuts and had effectively destroyed the economy. America was facing massive bank failures and a monumental Great Depression if something wasn't done. Thus the tacit support for President Obama and the bailout.
I guess little Paulie can be pragmatic when he has to be. It's impossible to transfer the nation's wealth to the top with all the money evaporated.
You teabaggers would be the stupid ones to elect a man that would put your daughter in jail on murder if she didn't want to have the baby by your brother who raped her.

Lookin’ for somebody to up the draw.
I got three choices, all men of straw.
Gotta’ pick somebody who don’t rub the peeps raw.
It’d be great if it was someone with a pretty face,
‘Cause I have a few dollars to make the case.
So I…pick a cheese head on Saturday, out of the flow,
And I heard, “He’s gonna’ flush Medicare, ya’ know.
I said, “Are you a mind reader? You can‘t say that‘s so.”
He lovin’ Ayn Rand, that’s revealing info.
Railing against the stimulus only goes so far.
So he took some for the district, a flip floppin’ star.
I was against it ‘fore I was for it (a little bit),
I ran up the countries bill ‘fore I was told to quit.
Loved some green energy a little bit.
Tried to deny it, but it wasn’t legit.
Well, he locked his tax returns down, like the number one hack.
Gonna’ take it like Rombot, weather the flack.
Gotta’ hide the evidence from the liberal scum.
I got 99 problems, Paul Ryan just one.
99 problems, Paul Ryan just one.
If you’re havin’ vote problems, I feel bad for you son.
I got 99 problems, my history just one.
Now once upon a time, a while back you know,
Vietnam was happenin’, but I didn’t go.
The manse in France was awful cushy,
Not patriot enough to risk a bullet in the tushy.
I tried to ignore it, working for the Lord.
Getting’ my deferments from the draft board.
I’m just the type, missionary position’s right.
‘Cause I couldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight.
Of course, you know what happens, mainstream jaws flappin’.
They runnin’ around yappin’, they always tryin’ trappin’
There I go, trapped in my own lies again.
Can’t keep straight the who, what, where and when.
Koch’s say the money wash away the sin.
Grover say don’t be raisin’ taxes friend.
Hate the President ‘cause he’s black and then,
Tryin’ to play him off like he’s saccharine.

You of all people would know about something being, red & swollen... right Harry?
Take a hike re-reg of JollyOldSoul1... you could stand to lose a few pounds!
Fiesty, what is red & swollen and always in your mouth?? A Ballpark of course, I am sure you like to watch the Mets.
This may not be a true statement. Take a look at this.
you are correct. clinton never had a balanced budget. but the facts speak for themselves. it is just like a doctor telling a patient in his office that the patient has to get to the hospital because his EKG has shown a
ventricular tachycardia incident ( complete abnormal heart sinus rhythm that leads to heart attack). the patient says "I feel fine doc. don't worry, I'll take care of my health' doc says, I am, telling you to get to the hospital. The patient thanks the doc, pays for the office call, walks outside. lights a cig, drops dead. it wouldn't have made any difference if the patient got to the hospital or not. he was dead. That was clintons budget. not balanced and dead.
zero, that all could be true, but it would also be true about Bush. He ADDED to public debt while borrowing intragovernment surplus funds (in the form mostly of treasuries), same as the one you all keep bashing, President Obama. I guess there isn't much difference between the parties except who recieves the most government benefits.
My point was not that Bush did not add to the budget. Only congress can do that in any case. Many liberals here seem to believe that Clinton actually balanced the budget and left Bush with a surplus. Neither of those are true statements.
What is true is that Obama burned through the Bush deficit in less than half the time. What is ironic is that in 2006 he even was quoted saying that it was gross incompetence on the part of past presidents to engage in deficit spending. He stated that deficit spending would kill an economy. Later when he was president he signed one of the largest budget increases in history and proclaimed that he would cut the deficit in half in four years. Nearly four years later he added trillions instead. Bush was not a rocket scientist. I had my beef with him as well. Obama on the other hand is killing our economy and this country. We most definitely need a change. Obamacare is not the answer either.
zero, my point was it isn't all on Bush or Obama or even Clinton. It was circumstances left to us by congress, which has a deserved combined approval rating of 9 to 10%. Congress spends money, presidents have very little say, other than to veto bills and possibly an PO or recess appointment. Even then it is a temporary action or could be. Much of the cost of government deficits we are having now is the cause of past congresses of both parties.
Even though congress has a collective approval rating of 9 to 10%, individual members enjoy much higher approval ratings to the point of congressmen for life in many cases. People should wake up to that fact and also demand a filibuster rule change. We need to demand more honesty from our candidates when they are campaigning. We should demand congress ignore their Norquist pledge and work for the people in their best conscience. They should be working to pass a supreme court veto proof campaign funding law and reign in superpacs. They should be willing and able to prove their ads as truth.
United We Stand, Divided We Fall. Extremes on both the left and right are making us fall. Your side has made the term liberal a bad word and complain when liberals call you tbaggers or extreme neo-cons. Their are good fair minded liberals as will as conservatives. They need to begin to work together with compromise to get the nations business done. Neither side can have 100% of what they want or their contributors want. Those who don't want to work together in fair honest ways, we need to fire them.
Why would anyone want to oppose the Norquist pledge? What is needed is a reduction in federal expenditures. We clearly have a spending problem, not a revenue problem. Reductions should include discretionary, mandatory, medicare and medicaid, and defense spending. We need to stop using Social Security as our overdraft protection as well. We have an entire society addicted to federal assistance. This needs to stop.
Compromise is all well and good until you realize that there can be no compromise. Only one philosophical approach will succeed when dealing with the economy. In my considered opinion that would be the republican approach. What republicans need to do is wait until November when compromise will hopefully no longer be necessary. People often forget that in 2008, when congress was democratically controlled, democrats failed to compromise or cooperate with republicans to any degree. That is how the ACA was passed. Now Obama is doing the same unilateral approach with regard to illegal immigration. No, we need to get a republican controlled congress and executive. That is the only approach that will work if we want our economy to flourish.
The ACA was passed with many amendments suggested by republicans. They supported the amendments until the president signed onto them. The compromise could be: We don't like this part of it and would like to see this changed and in support of that, we are prepared to offer you this. Now, the republicans said repeal and replace. The problem with that is there has never been an offer as to how they would replace it and with what. They also ran on jobs jobs jobs in '10. Where are they? You have control of the house. You all complain about things shoved down your throats by the dems. Isn't that what you are doing when you refuse to compromise? As it stands now, the nation is pretty much divided 50/50. That says you have to compromise to get anything done. McConnell's pledge was to do anything he can do to make this a one term president NO MATTER WHAT no matter how the nation is hurt and he has done just that in the senate. Mr. Cantwell has done the same in the house even though Mr. Bohener (sp?) has tried to compromise. The extreme right (the tea party) has made it nearly impossible for him to lead. Taxes has never been lower in this nation in the last 75 or more years. More than the tax rate, effective tax rates have never been lower. In fact, the effective tax rate is the third lowest of any developed nation. All that was asked for to go along with many budget cuts was an increase back to pre-bush rates, a whole 3%. You will never balance anything by cutting only. If you cut out 100% of all social safety nets, farm subsidies, infrastructure expenditures and foreign aid, you won't even come close to a balanced budget but you will have more crime and the need for more prisons. One area you might be able to add jobs to would be a private company to pick up the dead in the streets but think about it, the government would have to pay those private companies to do that.
At $717B, we spend more than almost the rest of the entire world combine in war spending. It does create and keep people working, I will grant you that, but much of that money could be going to transportation, which businesses need to operate. We are forced to develop and pay for weapons systems the military says they don't want or need. I am sure we could find a lot of waste and fraud to cut that back at least 5% a year for the next 5 years. Extend SS tax to the first million of all income and lower the rate to match 10% more than the current needs. That is less than what you are making the post office do to fund their retirement fund for 75 years, for employees not even born yet. That could lower the rate to 2% with an employer match of 2% (roughly). That would increase take home pay that Romney has said "he" would do. That would also cut corporate tax so they can "create" or keep more jobs in this country. It is in many ways very elementary what the solutions could be if both sides would compromise and work together. Just your comments alone tell me that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
I saw much of the floor debates as the ACA was unfolding. Any amendments introduced by Republicans can't be construed as tacit acquiescence to the act itself. These were minor changes. In other words, a mere bone thrown to the republicans. Democrats never intended to negotiate in good faith with republicans. The guts of the act was rammed down the republicans throat. The vote tally is evidence that the act was in fact opposed by all republicans except one. During the floor debate I heard about attempts by democrats to prevent republicans from having sufficient time to review the final draft of the act before the floor vote. Passage of the act was done in a manner to minimize the adverse public opinion that existed toward the act and its mandate. This opinion has only turned more sour toward the act itself as people have now come to more fully understand what the act entails. The democrats were hell bent on pushing this socialist type of legislation on a country that did not want it. This is what I mean by ramming it down our throats.
I guess as the republicans never intended on negotiating with the dems. Remember Mitch McConnell's pledge just days after the inauguration.
Please enlighten us of what the replace of the repeal and replace act will look like. I have heard very little if any at all on the replacement. Is pre-existing conditions part going to survie? Will the vouchers in medicare cover the pre-existing condition of old age? Are children going to be covered if their parents can't afford to cover them on their own? Is life time limits coming back? Does the government still cover uninsured at emergency rooms? Do the hospitals still cover them to pass the costs onto you, the insured, through higher premiums? Are there any wellness programs? Is there subsidies to computerize and link data bases or do doctors still have to do the same tests over and over again to cover their asses?
Where are the jobs the tea party ran on in '10? Tell the truth, the tax rates you all like to cite isn't the effective rates. After you lower the tax rates for personal taxes 10% and corporate tax 10%, what loopholes will be filled to cover that cost? Will the president then be at an effective rate of 5%? There are many more questions, but you get my point. We have not heard specifics.
You have your ideas and proposals (meaning the party), but are they the best? Is YOUR party's intention on ever negotiating and compromising? It sure doesn't look like it. As I stated earlier, NO side can have 100% of 100% of what they want. My point is is where does it end? A one party system is the fastest route to a dictatorship. The conditions for moderates to come back must be brought back. Both sides. And to do that, both sides have to "blink" at the same time and repeal the Norquist pledge and start working with the pledge of office they made.
Campaign funding laws and those regulations for superpacs have to come back. Superpacs should be made to tell the truth in their advertising. We need elections legislation that is written for a supreme cout veto proof bill.
The only so called loophole that I have is my child deduction and my mortgage deduction. I effectively pay about 25% tax every year. Most people in my income bracket have the same deductions. Those that invest heavily (more power to them) and have capital gains have a more complicated tax structure. The same is true of those who operate their own business. They have more deductions that are completely justified. Even Romney never paid 10% in personal taxes. No points there.
I don't have an example of what repeal and replace would look like. I am not an expert in health care law and neither are you. All I do know is the ACA will cost more and add to the deficit in ways not talked about by the DNC. That being the case we need an alternative.
As to the jobs the tea party ran on in 10 you fail to realize the Senate is still controlled by democrats. For the republican job bills to work you need a republican controlled senate and executive. Otherwise, either Obama will veto them or the democrats will simple table all republican proposed legislation so it does not get out of committee. Oh, that is right, the democratically controlled senate has already done exactly that.
If the shoe was on the other foot democrats would not be complaining about superpacs. Right now Romney is kicking Obama's butt in fundraising and that is why there are democratic complaints.
In order to fix the economy and put America right you can't engage in a process where hyper pluralism takes hold. Fixing the economy is a lot like religion and the belief in God. There are many different religions and philosophies. Only one of them can be right. The democratic version is not one of those that is right.
How many democrats would agree that we spend more than we should. How many agree that to fix the economy, at least in part, we need to reduce our spending so that we don't borrow 40 cents of every dollar to pay our government's cost of operation. How many democrats agree that discretionary, mandatory, and medicare/medicaid spending need to be cut back. None that I have ever read about. The truth is these things must be cut back. Raising taxes will be nothing more than a drop of water in a very large bucket. That is why Republicans must gain control of the executive and the senate to effectuate real economic change. Our country is bleeding to death under democratic control.
Yes, there are few loopholes for us in the middle. I agree. And investors returns are complicated. Some years their investments make them money, other years they lose money. That's a given. That is why they can and should amend their returns to reflect that. It is their choice to be an investor. It is their "job". Great! I admire risk takers. They have been taking risks forever. During times of war, how can they expect tax cuts? Who is to pay for not only the wars but the aftermath of war? Now if their investments "create" jobs, even better! Means they are not losing. They should be rewarded. If they take their profits and park it in Swiss bank accounts and the such perhaps the reward should be smaller. Something has to pay for the wars and rebuilding infrastructure. If they are not using their profits to create jobs, thereby increasing tax revenues, all the cuts in the world would be a ripple.
I am not an expert either. My point here about the ACA is when the tea party is saying cut and replace, it would be far easier to listen if there were some kind of proposal said in a way non-experts could understand to see. I think you would agree the old system was not working. i too watched many hours of C-Span and the committee hearings and floor debates on the ACA. You first said there wasn't much then admitted to watching many hours of it.
This is your opinion. Mine is NO political parties or religious philosophies are fully right. They all have good points and thoughts and are wrong in places.
It wouldn't have mattered if the Dem Senate would put anything to a vote. The Republicans would have filibustered it. With more filibusters in one term than the rest of history combined, whats the point? The house was told why their bills didn't move forward and they refused to negotiate. Again, the polarized right thinks they should have 100% of 100%.
I am not sure about that but that wasn't my point. My point was MY point, not that of the party. If you reread my comment, you can clearly see my comment was non-partisan. The Dems have superpacs working for them too. Some truthfulness in their advertising should be had though. Let them spend all they want. After all, money has pictures of people on them so money is free speech, huh? Romney may be kick Obama's butt in fund-raising, but he is behind in the polls. There aren't that many undecideds left. There is still two conventions left, 4 debates left and 80+ days left to go. We will see what happens on the only day polls count.
Your last point I would say as raising taxes would be a ripple, so would cuts. That is why we need both. Again, we need to close the far radical ends and come back to a more moderate decorum. If that doesn't happen, nothing will work.
After further reflection you make a good point. Perhaps I will think about that a bit more. One thing to consider is this: Romney is not behind in the polls of likely voters in very many states. This race is closer than at any time in history than I can remember. For an incumbent to not be leading by this time is not a good thing. November will be fascinating one way or the other.
Lastly, I want to say how much I appreciate the civil tone or our debate. We can disagree and yet not cast verbal barbs. Well done.
Governor Ultrasound, meet Eddie Munster. Now get a room you two!
Oh, Oh, ....Insider....Insider, insider! Washington Insider!
Ok Al .. I was going to leave it alone .. but you nudged my inner-sinner. So I must ask the Randy-Randist Paul, where was your vagina probe during your speech?
Romney's got his white board out, must have talked to Glenn Beck.......
You teabaggers would be the stupid ones to elect a man that would put your daughter in jail for murder if she didn't want to have the baby by your brother who raped her.

Willard demonstrated yesterday, with his white board, that he has working digits....
Grovers Obstructionist Party should be happy!
Has anyone had the balls to point out to R$mney how well the little white board worked out for Ross Perot?
Or was I the only one having that laugh last night?
The only guy who could ever do anything worth watching on a white erase board was Tim Russert.
Go, Bills!
I did see Romney's little white board speech on the news yesterday.
He might as well just drawn a line down the middle and on the right wrote Me Good and on the left Obama Bad. It was the worst representation of data that I've ever seen. Just because you write something on a white board does not make it true.
John Madden should have run up during Willard's white board presentation, flattened Willard and diagrammed a few football plays for us. It would have been more educational and way more entertaining!
McDonnell's moniker should be Vaginal Prober Governor, he's done as far as women are concerned. Despicable man and feeding wholesale at the federal trough.
Obama 2012
The Republicans complain that President Obama "never had a real job" then get all tingly about a career politician - whose only experience with budgets was creating one that economists on both sides consider a massive joke.
Foreign policy was so important to them in 2008 but now no one on their ticket knows squat about foreign policy - and based on Romney's recent trip not a whole lot about diplomacy in general!
Paul Ryan: The Deficit? I Built That!
Romney/Ryan: Medicare? We Can
FixEnd That!I live in Florida. I think it is somewhat unlikely that Romney can win this state now that he has added the chief Medicare killer to his ticket.
On the other hand, we are the state that let a probable felon become our governor. So go figure.
If Obama wins Florida, Romney would have to take all the other swings states to win...........
Keep the Medicare Voucher Plan message alive......
Obama/Biden 2012.
The only person running for office who has cut Medicare is Obama.
From what I've seen Florida seems to swing mostly Republican. Romney/Ryan will have to step in it pretty deep to lose it.
It depends on voter suppression and how many Latinos make it to the polls. Let's break out the color code cards and make sure that everyone is the proper shade of red neck before letting them vote.
Go USA, got proof?
Go, Obama cut fraud and waste not benefits, how is that a bad thing?

Has anyone had the balls to point out to R$mney how well the little white board worked out for Ross Perot?

No, Clara
Particularly, since there were no numbers on "MYTH" Romney's white board . "MYTH" is just not that adroit at wizardry.

I hope you and the kids are find. I relish the time we spent together am looking forward to the next time.
Sure. Rush, Beck, and Fox said so. After all, if multiple people say it, and you read it on the internet too, it has to be true.
I will go on record stating that there is no way Romney will win Ohio.
President Obama has a far superior "ground game", and people here are still smarting about Republicans trying to break the Police/Firefighters'Teachers unions in 2010. The same groups will be easily mobilized for President Obama, and some Republican Police/Firefighters are still pissed and will stay home..
The auto bailout is another issue Romney won't be able to get around. The Chrysler plant in Toledo is hiring, the GM plant in Lordstown is hiring, and the Chevy Cruze is assembled in Ohio of almost all Ohio-manufactured parts. There are thousands of small businesses that supply parts to the auto industry.
Romney/Ryan will lose in Ohio.

I do not care what this thread is about, I am having a Pussy Hissy Fit. Putin, you are, excuse my French, a putain. Pussy Riot get 2 years in jail for using the ‘wrong’ litterbox? Show up in my neighbourhood pal and I’ll string your balls up so high that you’ll have to jump to lick them. As my good pal Hobbes would say, “dogs are stupid, throw rocks at them.” Think I’ll go listen to some Dixie Chicks … “I know where momma parked your trailer.”

please, tell me how you really feel... /snark.
i whole-heartedly agree with you. There was a nifty segment on NPR yesterday with the woman who wrote the new book about Putin's rise in Russia. very interesting thing was that Putin had all of the Russia establishment fooled, and the author claimed that she would no longer make fun of President Bush for his comment about "seeing into Putin's soul." He fooled everyone, even those who initially supported him... anyway, it was an interesting listen...
Every intolerant @S%#.... this from the person who told me to suck butter out of their a$$. Real nice. At least we can agree that Putin used power to suppress the girls.

Putin could have said the same thing to Pussy Riot and I would have left it alone. Give me a break fella, show me the hand slap bruise on your butt.
If you plan to vote for BO ... you are part of the problem ...
. and wouldn't know a Federalist Paper if one fell on you ...

And you seem to have read all of them with a very selective political viewpoint. Bible readers do the same thing.

Come on, solutions! Quit with the copy and paste and come up with something new and intelligent!
The problem is obstruction........the only thing that Republican know how to do very well.
you are entitled to your opinion.
i'm entitled to think you're an idiot. great country, no?
Just another tea bagger trying to dumb down American.
Solutions, do you have the life size Marx poster or the cardboard cut-out?
I could give a crap about Federalist Papers.
Here's why I will never vote Republican Again....and I AM AN EX_REPUBLICAN
1. Failure on 911 and the lies given as the official story. Every year little bits of facts are being forged as to the real story and every year it looks more like a coup by the government to facilitate removing our freedoms and reasoning to spend from 400 billion in 98 to over 860 billion in 2010 - money that went to the 1% owners of the war machine.
2.The complete and utter proliferation of changing state and local laws as written by membership companies of ALEC - most were for privatization of public goods and services under the auspices that it would save money....it hasn't.
3. Their preoccupation of forcing Religeous morals on society and fighting costly political battles again and again Roe vs Wade.
4. Their deliberate attempts to help those who need it the least through tax cuts to the highest earners all in the name of trickle down.
5. Continued support of big oil at the expense of developing industries.
6. Complete disregard for the enviroment to induce even higher profits - Fracking companies do not have to abide by the Clean water and air act, cause it would cost too much. Allowing private companies to uin BLM land.
7.Republicans signing the Grover no tax increase pledge.
8. Claiming Fiscal Conservatism - They absolutely say one thing and do the opposite.
9. Global Terrorism - which really is Global Domination. The proliferation of world wide military installations. In 1998 there were 470 bases in 63 countries with 1.3 million staff and an operating budget of 470 billion In 2011 there are over 900 bases in over 130 countries with over 2.5 million in staff at a budget of 800 billion per year.
If you look at a world map....these bases just happen to consistently be near large natural resources whether water, mineral or oil.
These bases are the leading cause for us to lend "Foreign Aid" - because without the payoff to the host country they would not allow it. Foreign aid is not foreign aid - it's rent due.
We do not need 900 or more military installations across the globe; unless of course the Republican desire is to rule the world.
10. They have done NOTHING to HELP America out of this depression I offer the following
44 Bills..........on Abortion
99 Bills..........on Religion
71 Bills .........on Family Relationships
36 Bills..........on Marriage
67 Bills..........on Firearms/Gun Control
522 Bills........on Lowering Corporate Tax
445 Bills........on Government Investigations
0 Bills………...on Jobs!!!!
#6.8 Kevin-Milw:
EXCELLENT! If ONLY the idiot Republicans could understand what you've written. None would be stupid enough to vote for Mittens & Ryan...........
Kevin you would get my vote. Great post.
Nope, That's just your reflection in the mirror you are looking at.
Sorry, to have to break the news to you but not all of the founding fathers were Federalist. Most of you GOTPers love quoting Jefferson... wasn't he one of the most radical thinkers of his time. Oh, and he wasn't a Federalist. Just sayin'.
Jefferson also supported a hefty inheritance tax as a way of "resetting wealth", something the GOP thinks is abhorrent.
Federalist Papers ...
... please read them ... then, if you understand any of them, come back and we can discuss their meaning ...

Paul Ryan Voted for TARP. Paul Ryan took stimulus for his state after voting against it. Sounds a little two faced now doesn't?

Yup, and Mr. Deficit Hawk also voted for two wars, Part D MEDICARE and tax cuts, all UNFUNDED!

*wonk* *wonk*
Smitty -
Paul Ryan actually voted for the 2009 stimulus. In fact:
Paul Ryan voted for the Bush tax cuts, the Bush Medicare expansion, No Child Left Behind, the 2008 stimulus package, TARP bailouts, the auto bailouts, and the 2009 stimulus.
Oh, then AFTER that he became a "fiscal hawk".

Central to Romney's fortunes? Willard is hiding his tax shelters in Virginia?
jon, your time is up, go home. Your hero romney obviously benefited by sucking on the Federal teat, just ask him, he didn't do that alone.
Obama 2012
Romney paid taxes, Most Liberials don't.
Good jobs numbers can overcome buckets of money, so hire someone, tell your friends to hire someone and tell your boss to hire someone.
So your asking job creators (the one Obama's been bashing) to spend their money, in an uncertian business enviorment, to try to boost hireing, so the unemployment numbers will get better, so that Obama who is causing the problems looks better, so he can get elected again so the businesses can struggle for another 4 years? That makes perfect since, for a Liberial. We need someone in office that is not so anti-business.
No, I'm asking those who support Obama to do their part, because those who don't are throwing tacks in the roadway.
Can ANYONE really believe ANYTHING Romney (or Ryan) says ANYMORE?

At least one one is accurate, with Romney business will come our way. Romney/Ryan, here to stay, Horray!
Dear Friends:
Ryan is no Virgin and he is like this political race. The drunk, the skunk, the bump, oh Romney dead.
Political death prepare your grave Romney and Ryan you are just another of Romney's boys. Ryan you Romney's boy! Get out and stump boy! Get out and stump! And Stump he is and all the rest he wants your money like a Romney Prostitute. Gimmmy! Gimmmee! Gimmee! Get it!
Boy! Hey boy! I want to see your birth certificate and Romney's and your taxes. Just like all the rest.
Freedom of speech under the USA Constitution.
Freedom of speech. The keynote speaker for the Republicans wants to take freedom of speech away from the populace. He told Warren Buffet among others to shut up. The real danger to the Constitution comes from the Republican party. For the NRA think about it if they take freedom of speech away, the next thing they will come after are your guns. You can't trust these Repuglicans.
I for one wish it was the Ryan/Romney ticket. Finally someone willing to take on the taboo issues that Obama blames Republican's for trying to destroy, while he steals 714 Billion dollars from it (Medicare). I am glad to have them finally talk about SS and MC, which will die off if left to Democrats. Warren Buffet is a true Liberial. He claims the Rich should pay more taxes, while he fights tax court battles to keep his money. Why doen't he pay his requried taxes, and then write out a fat check if he thinks the rich should pay more? No onw is preventing him from doing so. He is a hiipocrite, and should shut up or put up. Just like Reid, come to think of it.
The polls claiming Obama is leading in Virginia were all lies. Living here I can tell you that Obama is not well liked and his Vice President is despised. The only hope for the Socialist Pig Obama is in the NOVA are and even they are bailing on him. The arrival of Ryan to the Romney ticket is the end of Obama's hopes in Virginia. North Carolina has already bailed on him. The end is near for Obama. He'll join the unemployed in January. And he can now enjoy what I felt in June 2010. I hope he really feels the shame. But knowing him he'll go out and golf and collect unemployment.
Presidents get a pension, you moron! Whether he wins or loses, as a taxpayer you will always pay him a nice pension. And his books have sold well, so he's wealthy. Suck it up, you bitter pill.
Laser - Not sure what part of Virginia you live in unless it is in the Deep South/Western Part. Here in Northern Virginia the education, roads, and employment are doing well. I am really happy with the current Administration and so are a lot of my neighbors.
Positive Job Growth for over 28 months, housing prices stable and climbing in Northern VA - Win for Obama.
Living here also laser, you are full of it. You are just like R&R, everybody I know in No. Va. despise Romney.
Yeah Right laser-692950 should be more like loosserrrr.
I live in the 7th Congressional District of Eric Bonehead Cantor.
Everyone I talk to say they are voting for President Obama. Which means Flipazz will get his clock clean in VA.
SUCK IT & SUCK UP BITTER PILL Loooossssseerrrr
If I have anything to do with it you will loss my great state of Virginia. Virginia is not Mississippi!
President Obama 2012!!
It's going to be a Romney/Ryan landslide.
Another Obama myth revealed: "Obama saved the automobile industry"
The revealing:
h/t Mark Modica at NLPC
Read the whole article at nlpc.org "Auto bailout legacy:GM's European Nightmare"
forgot to mention that gm still owes 40 bil and their car sales down -6.5 % (July 2012 stats) and that the American auto industry according to a report from the Treasury and written in the detroit free press states that there is a loss of 545million billion dollars. "we got to do for the manufacturing sector as we did to the car industry.obama, his time is up. time for that snake to slink back to Chi-town. with his 7.5 million dollars.
"He’s been in public service since he graduated from college,” McDonnell began. That makes him just another career politician who is part of the problem, not the solution. Love his outright lies about not asking for stimulus money when he did. Republican=hypocrite. He also got his money the old fashioned way, by marrying a rich Democrat. Ryan is a pathetic imposter and can be trusted as much as carnival barker.
Richard:
Just like Obama who lived of other peoples money promoting all his life that started with hid dad.
The left, this includes Obama, Biden, Reid, pretty much everybody who would vote for the failure-in-chief a second time, are nothing but desperate losers. Here is what the latest attempt to deflect from our failed president is really about.
What is almost hilarious is the left seizing on what they believe to be an opportunity to bash Ryan for taking stimulus funds. Something Obama encouraged every rep and senator to do, and chastised those who didn't..
Absolutely moronic. The left is sinking, no preservers left.
