Obama campaign says Ryan forced to flip flop on Medicare

The Obama campaign said that Paul Ryan “flip flopped” on the issue of Medicare now that the Romney campaign is accusing President Obama of reducing Medicare spending in the same way Ryan had proposed in his budget.

On a conference call with reporters, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Ryan’s Democratic counterpart atop the House Budget Committee, noted that the president’s health care plan cut more than $700 billion mostly out of the Medicare Advantage program, which affected insurance companies and hospitals rather than beneficiaries.

But Ryan’s budget plan also calls for the same spending reductions, even though Romney is now accusing Obama of “raiding” Medicare by instituting the cuts and has said he would restore the spending.

“It’s kind of sad to see Congressman Ryan be forced to flip flop on this issue by Gov. Romney,” Van Hollen said on the call.

He claimed that while Medicare trustees have estimated the spending reductions would extend the life of the entitlement program for eight years, Romney and Ryan would essentially be negating that extension should they implement their plan.

“They will hasten the insolvency of the Medicare program by 8 years, that’s according to the Medicare trustees. So what they’re announcing is that by the end of their term if they were to be elected, Medicare would have begun to go bankrupt by the end of their term,” Van Hollen said.

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt suggested they would continue to hit Ryan on the apparent contradiction between his budget proposal and Romney’s plan, a strategy that allows them to hit their opponent on policy while also suggesting Ryan is a flip flopper, a claim they’ve long been making about Romney.

It's amazing what crazy sh!t you can write and people will vote it up and love my SH!T. Like "We should just take all the money from the white people." Liberals will go right along with it . I like to expose just how far some of them will go. You could say, " Screw Israel. Let them die." and get 50 votes. Liberals are cracked. I like pointing that out in my own way. But I use many styles. I just talk like a lib with a broken PC button.

paul ryan wentto school on a free ride because his father passed away. i guess after that he deciced that no one else should nave the same chance like he did.

we all know part d was suppose to take care of what part b did not.but, the insurance industry would rather take your money and run.cheat you on your benefits and put money in their pocket.

ever ask yourself how much money ryan got from the insurance industry?

you guys who are so in love with willard/ryan need to really look at their policies.they say they are always trying to lower your taxes but only if they lower taxes for the top 1%.

i make less than ryan and pay more than mitt. go figure.and he wants to raise my tax rate to lower mitt's?

they ought to quit worrying about starting wars in iraq and syria and spend the money here.

rebuild america first.then worry about somebody else.

Ryan smiles as he says we need to "Privatize Social Security," make Medicare a "Voucher Program," and eliminate the Capital Gains tax. He lives off capital gains he inherited from his rich family.

I will love to see how this plays out in congressional races.

I can see a democrat challenger running against a Republican incumbent who voted for the Ryan plan, saying the Republican voted for a plan so radical, even Romney is embarrassed by it. Lol.

When somebody else changes his or her mind it is "Flip Flop"!

Time to get rid of Obama and Joe "Al Jolsen" Biden from office.

Joe it is not a considered a Gaffe when you read it from a Teleprompter.

That was just so funny how you made fun of the Black community and made them laugh with you because they trusted you. Your a joke and a disgrace to this country. Then Obama says it is ok to treat the community this way, he backs Joe up... "There Will be no Apologies" he said.

Its not so much the flip-flop that get attention ~ its the bald-faced lying denial that the flip-flopper ever held a different opinion even though evidence to the contrary is overwhelming.

Biden has nothing to apologize for. If his remarks were "racist' and "insulting to the Black community," why is it that all we are hear from in protest are a bunch of White people with differing politics? This is just another example which brands neo-conservatives and Tea-Pees ~ truth is to be feared and a messenger of truth must be destroyed.

Jim it was Racist and insulting....Even Govenor Wilder of Virginia(The first Black Govenor and Democrat).. Found it to be insulting. I am glad you thought I was a conservative...but see i am not. I am a Pissed off Democrat from Western Pa. Watching my Power Plants close due to his BULL S##T Green Energy Plans. The new air restrictions become to costly for the Power Plant to meet ...so they shut it down... If you are not a Public Worker, Car maker or for Green Energy... Our President does not see fit to buy our votes as a union. This President is Garbage ... His campaign is Garbage(lies and deceipt). Why do I care about Rommneys tax Return...none of us gave Rats ass about Kerry and his Wacked out wife Theresa Heinz and their money. I am concerned about getting back to work. I am concerned about having to pay higher taxes so Public Sector unions can get benefits and a job. Clinton is one of the greatest Presidents of our Life time... he turned the Economy around... He lead Congress... he didnt divide the American people. Even Reagan was producing close to a Million jobs at the stage of his Presidency that Obama is at.

More mud throwing from the Democrats who haven't indicated what they will do to save Medicare or the economy in general! Most likely, they don't have any ideas.. obama has put us deeper in debt by $6 trillion with the same old results! More unemployment, fewer Americans working as a percentage to total population than ever before, 41 months of over 8% unemployment, loans to companies in the energy sector that went bankrupt, loans to the auto industry that may never be paid back, and more cronyism than any administration in history.

This is my first post. I will get right to the point. I cannot imagine the voting public, most of whom are not in the top 1 percent, electing a couple of phonies like Mittens and Ayn Ryan. Whenever Mutt talks about how much taxes he has paid he never says INCOME TAXES, it is just TAXES!! And if he does not release more tax returns he will continue to get beat 'bout the head & shoulders daily till election day. He loses either way, and maybe it is best he does not release anything. Honestly, I have never seen a more hollow excuse for a politician than this man. Strip him of his ill-gotten Vulture Capitalist money and what do you really have? Not much! He will lose. Period.

Nah, its the Ryan Plan. Romney didn't have one until he selected the Cheese-head which was/is tantamount to an "agenda transplant." Here's something worth noting ~ there are 288 Republican members of congress and not a single one of them is on the stump for Romney-Ryan. Not even those in the Senate who are not up for election this cycle. There is a h-u-g-e message in that fact if you listen.

What doesn't anyone understand about the fact that it is Romney who is running for President not Ryan. It will be Romney's plan that is put into effect so what Ryan has previously proposed is not relevant. If he didn't agree to embrace Romney's plan he would not have accepted the VP position when it was offered.

As for the $700 billion Obama cuts from Medicare to fund Obamacare, if anyone thinks hospitals and doctors, who have been complaining about the amount Medicare reimburses them are not going to reduce services to or stop serving Medicare patients altogether, that thinking is plain foolishness, There will be a decline in the healthcare services available for seniors compared to those that were available prior to the $700 billion cut.

Everyone knows their attempts to paint Obama as killing Medicare is ludicrous at best, what he did do was extend the life of it by cutting he spending to providers not beneficiaries. Their plan will cut benefits for the beneficiaries and they know it and so doesn't everyone else. Yet the lies keep coming, its almost sad.

America has been abused for more than 30 years. The last Presidents to pay down on the national debt were Clinton and Carter. If Reagan, Bush, and bush/cheney had balanced their budgets we would now have almost no national debt.

Republicons do not know how to handle the economy and their history proves it.

94% of the national debt belongs to three people.
