Ryan meets with Vegas casino mogul as hundreds protest

LAS VEGAS -- Congressman Paul Ryan met with casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and several others Tuesday night to discuss how to raise money while hundreds protested the GOP ticket outside.

A handful of attendees of tonight's "finance meeting" -- all of whom walked out of the elevators with white folders -- confirmed to reporters inside The Venetian Las Vegas Casino, Hotel and Resort that the newly selected vice presidential nominee spoke in the Paiza Club at the casino owned by Sheldon.

NBC's Michael Isikoff reports on Republican VP pick Paul Ryan's meeting last night in Las Vegas with some big-dollar GOP donors, including casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, for a private talk about the campaign.

One male attendee said the remarks by the Wisconsin Congressman were "wonderful" and noted Ryan didn't say anything unusual.

A few hundred protesters gathered outside the popular Vegas hotel, carrying signs and chanting. Many in the group appeared to be union workers.

Adelson has been a big contributor to Mitt Romney and the Republican Party this year and has promised to spend $100 million to defeat President Barack Obama this fall.

Mitt Romney's running mate, VP contender Paul Ryan, has a voting record that – at times – conflicts with his political identity as a fiscal conservative. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports.

The Romney campaign would not confirm details of tonight's event other than telling reporters it was not a fundraiser as no one paid money to attend. Several dozen names appeared to be on the list at the security stand for people who would be attending.

Earlier Tuesday, a Romney spokesman tweeted that in the last 72 hours, the campaign has raised $7.4 million online with over 101,000 donations.

Congressman Ryan is scheduled to attend at least three more fundraisers before the weekend, which he is slated to spend in Ohio and Virginia.

But he certainly isn't in Vegas. When the Mayor of the city says you're no friend to his state and not welcome in his city, you should probably think twice before showing up. Lol!

I don't know where the pres was last night, but Michelle was finger pointing at Gabriel Douglas (the 16 year old Olympic gold medalist gymnast) for a one time splurge on and egg mcmuffin.

An Egg McMuffin is a fresh cracked egg (no growth hormones and latest growing women's recomendation is two or more whole eggs per day) on a whole wheat English muffin (what you are supposed to eat whole wheat and unbleached). The worst things would be the Butter (real butter is non-hydrogenated - hydrogenation is now believed to be worse than real butter), The Candadian Bacon (People think it is ham, but Candian Bacon is the leanest pig product and leaner than most beef products.) and real cheese (better than processed cheese and has calcium which a growing girl needs).

That's like the north carolina school confiscating the kids lunch that had a deli sliced turkey breast sandwich in it and made here eat breaded chicken nuggets. The nuggets are a processed with high sodium breading.

Wow what government thinks is good is a bit out of touch.

At some point all this high profile big bucks fund raising just might catch up with these guys. Why isn't anybody complaining about Romney's fund raising on his European tour? Isn't it illegal to accept foreign funds for election campaigns?

Are we to believe too that there is no foreign money being laundered by Adelson? A lot of this guys billions comes from offshore interests. I'm not sure how easy this would be to prove, but doesn't it make people at least a little concerned about all his money and all his foreign connections?

Doesn't it bother people that one man would admit to spending at least 100 million dollars to Romney's campaign? Is it because Adelson is a great humanitarian who wants to help the average American? If he was worried about average Americans, he wouldn't be in the Casino Business. Adelson originally threw millions at Gingrich to defeat Romney, but now he spending even more millions to get Romney elected?

In February 2012, Adelson told Forbes Magazine that he's “...against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections. But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it."

This is just so wrong in so many ways, but Romney doesn't care. Whatever it takes to get elected.

The only thing they are worried about are the foodprices. When food becomes expensive, riots will start. It is beyond party-lines. Foodcost must be low for a government or any company to survive, realy.

Let's be honest here- Politics is a expensive game. Both parties are out trying to get as much money as possible right now so that they can deluge the public with campaign ads, flyers, stickers, etc. Do you have any idea of how much it costs to send everyone in a swing state something in their mailbox every day for 4-5 months? How about those tv ads- how much does their production cost, as well as their distribution cost?? Face it, both campaigns want to win so they have to get money to do so. On the topic of whom they get their money from, sure you can point at them to vilify a campaign. I saw this one in the comments(paraphrasing), "Romney had a drug dealer donate to his campaign"- you don't think that's the case with Obama too? Both parties use PACs and the PACs are taking money from anyone/everyone- it's the line between the election laws and donation caps. Soros gives freely to democractic PACs, Adelson gives freely to republican PACs.

Non issue- UNLESS you later rewrite campaign finance reform laws and get rid of PACs.

You go Paul Ryan!

I can't wait until we finally have an intelligent President and Vice President in our White House. Two people who are proud of being Americans and can finally begin to fix the mess the Liberals have created.

Barrack Hussein has become a pathetic desperate man grasping at straws to campaign on. He has systematically turned the White House into the Whine House.

Joe "Bite Me" Biden is an absolute embarrassment to the office of VP. He is "Gaffetastic" in every way. This buffoon is the second most powerful man on the planet, if that doesn't scare the he!! out of you nothing will.

Yesterday he exhibited his ignorance once again telling a group of people in Danville, Virginia he was in Danville North Carolina. Well, when you have to campaign in all 57 States it can be confusing or, as Joseph "Robinette" Biden (what the he!! kind of middle name is Robinette?) can just change the borders of a State.

Then of course he just babbles on about putting blacks back in chains. But then again that’s what Liberals do. They have bamboozled the black community for 45 years into believing they want to help them and nothing has changed. It’s a shame that the black community has been fed Bread and Circuses for so long they no longer realize they are just being chained for their vote.

Hope and Change has truly become Ropes and Chains for all of America under this incompetent administration.

No, he and Biden are trying to counter the Romney rich-bitch scratch-my-back fundraising efforts by requesting more from their $50 donors. We seriously need to consider WHY someone wants Obama out and Romney in so badly that they would be willing to throw away $100 million. The answer? No one throws away $100 million... he'll get his money back ten times over... "how" might be the better question.

Yes, and it should. It speaks to two things...

1) $100 million is much easier to put your hands on these days with the low income taxes at the top and all... you just suck the money out of your businesses and layoff a few people. Paying 14% on it is easy money.

2) No one "gives" $100,000,000 without a direct and specific payback... no one.

People DO give $100M from time to time for altruistic reasons...usually in charitable trusts and such. Bill Gates has given more than that.

Adelson on the other hand obviously has something to gain if tax rates are reduced even a little bit (or raised even a little bit by Obama on the wealthy). So there is potential for quid-pro-quo. That would be illegal.

Visiting him 3 days after Ryan's nomination, that's the scary part. Who do they work for anyway?

Yes, because Maher's $1 million is probably much more to him than Adelson's $100 million is to him. A few differences cause the concern to diminish...

Maher announced it publicly and has verbalized his reasons for it ever since. Maher never met with Obama, so it's difficult to see that he'll get any PERSONAL kick-back other than his favored social positions.

But, yes... all big money donations should be a concern. The numbers seem to point right, however.

    Answer me this:

How can a man running for President of the United States hide his money overseas in known tax havens, be a pioneer at outsourcing jobs and creating jobs overseas while drawing on average 92 million dollars out of every deal he made. And tell the American people that's his business about his tax returns and refuse to show more than 1 year of tax returns. Then selects a VP who has a plan that would not balance the budget for 28 years, who write a personhood bill that tells women the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will control their body even in the cases of rape, incest or life threatening medical conditions. Ryan wants to make it a FEDERAL CRIME if any woman gets pregnant and don't have the baby. Ryan would also make it a FEDERAL CRIME to have a baby by Embryo injection. That would put 3 of Mitt Romney's sons in Jail. Go figure.

Any women that votes for these guys are insane to say the least. Just the thought of subjecting themselves let alone their daughters, family members or neighbors to be charge a FEDERAL CRIME if they get pregnant and not have the baby even if they die. WOW! is an understatement.

Then you have his budget that would have the wealthiest people pay NO TAXES AT ALL, while anyone making $40,000 - $100,000 pay up to $4,700 in additional taxes.

The Ryan-Romney medicare plan would do nothing to curb the cost of medicare other than shift the rising cost to elderly people on fixed incomes.

And anyone that is 54 years old who worked from the age of 14 they would not be eligible for social security. This is after paying into it for 40 years. Again will not ask the wealthy to pay a dime in taxes and would give them $333,000 additional tax cut on top of the current bush tax cuts. His budget also assumes there will be more revenue because the wealthy will create more jobs. If they haven't created jobs in 30 years what makes them create jobs now? Because its smoke and mirrors. His budget is a false start on bold and wrecks havoc on the middle class and poor. Leading economist will tell you this budget is a scheme to rob the middle class and poor and give huge tax breaks to the already richest among us.

If the tax cuts created jobs, why isn't it working the bush tax cuts are still in effect. Or is it President Obama's fault there not working?

Or maybe Romney and Ryan have to find a way to fight Barrack Husseins union goonion influence.

Now, before you start with the stale rant that unions don’t use the rank-and-files money you need to read this from the WSJ report from July: (excerpt)

The usual measure of unions' clout encompasses chiefly what they spend supporting federal candidates through their political-action committees, which are funded with voluntary contributions, and lobbying Washington, which is a cost borne by the unions' own coffers. These kinds of spending, which unions report to the Federal Election Commission and to Congress, totaled $1.1 billion from 2005 through 2011, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

The unions' reports to the Labor Department capture an additional $3.3 billion that unions spent over the same period on political activity.

The costs reported to the Labor Department range from polling fees, to money spent persuading union members to vote a certain way, to bratwursts to feed Wisconsin workers protesting at the state capitol last year. Much of this kind of spending comes not from members' contributions to a PAC but directly from unions' dues-funded coffers. There is no requirement that unions report all of this kind of spending to the Federal Election Commission, or FEC.

Unions spend millions of dollars yearly paying teams of political hands to contact members, educating them about election issues and trying to make sure they vote for union-endorsed candidates.

Corporations and their employees also tend to spread their donations fairly evenly between the two major parties, unlike unions, which overwhelmingly assist Democrats. In 2008, Democrats received 55% of the $2 billion contributed by corporate PACs and company employees, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Labor unions were responsible for $75 million in political donations, with 92% going to Democrats.

Such activities are central to unions' political power: The proportion of members who vote as the leadership prefers has ranged from 68% to 74% over the past decade at AFL-CIO-affiliated unions, according to statistics from the labor federation.

But political spending by the AFL-CIO headquarters and its affiliated unions climbed to $608 million in the 2009 and 2010 election season from $452 million in 2005 and 2006. They spent $316 million in 2011, a nonelection year, amid the fight with Mr. Walker in Wisconsin

    That’s a lotta Brats isn’t it?

Should we use the guillotine on the unions or just a simple firing squad?

Here’s the link for the complete story:

    online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304782404577488584031850026.html#project%3DLABOR20120710%26articleTabs%3Darticle

"They’re going to put y’all back in chains."

There. Is that better? Do y’all feel better now?

You hypocrites know that if a Republican or Conservative ever addressed ANYONE that way he would be assaulted by you limp-wristed Liberals and the lamestream media.

There would so much hand-wringing about the “intolerance”, “racism”, “bigotry” and any other pejorative possible, your hands would be smoking.

For the record, I’m not a birther, but I am a doubter. I doubt Barrack Hussein understands the true concept of being an American. He was raised, for a while, by a mother who was an avowed socialist. His father was a staunch anti-colonialist. He was influenced by Frank Marshall Davis at a young age. Not to mention his associations with other less than American types.

    Y'all know who I mean.

I use “Hussein” just as easily as you Libbies use Willard, Dubya or other cute little insults. Get over yourself.

And the Worthless Post award goes to JimSpence for us extensive use of copy/paste nonsense. :)

Nonsense to a Liberal, facts to real Americans.

Jeff, we all know you Liberals always whine about “links”, but we also know you never read them when we provide them. So I just make it easier for you, I give you the best of both worlds, the post AND the link. This way you have no reason to ignore facts. Of course we know facts mean nothing to Liberals because your minds are already made up or the DNC, Barrack Hussein or Debbie Whatsername Slutz just tells you what to think and say.

We understand your denial. You all realize what a horrible mistake you made in 2008 and now you have to live with it for the rest of your life. All we real Americans can hope for is that you change your mind in time to prevent the total collapse of our great Republic.

    Hopey Changey, remember?

Jim spence------Are you Pro-colonialist? And If you don't understand the difference on why Joe Biden can say that and the GOP can't(The chains comment) there is no explaining it to you and you will never get it.....You see when a racist makes a racist comment he gets called out for it and when a non-racist makes a non-racist comment it is perfectly okay..........The bottom line is you racists want to be able to say whatever you want and guess what you can(We do have the freedom of speech you know?)....But when you guys make racists, misogynist etc. you will be called out for it..I personally like it when racists show their true colors and don't hide behind political correctness....Only cowards don't show their true colors...Thing is some people are so racially insensitive they don't even realize what they are saying is offensive.........So don't hide, rock on and say what you mean....Instead of saying you are a doubter just say "I hate @!$%#s"..............Niggas is what I should have typed then it wouldn't have been censored....KInda like I can type Effed up but not the other word, DUH....Just let me say what I wanna say....

Hmmmm, nice try at deflection, but no cigar Bruce.

Washington, Jefferson, Adams, et al were anti-colonialists with respect to slavery.

Barrack Husseins father was an anti-colonialist with respect to their perceived imperialism of Western culture on the rest of the world, especially its effect on Kenya. I guess I should have made it a little easier for you to comprehend by saying he was an anti-imperialist.

Bill Maher is ONE guy giving a $million. Adelson in planning on $100M. There aren't 100 Bill Mahers.

If you look at the numbers, a huge proportion of Obama's money is from donations less than $250. Something like 80/20 small donations. The opposite is true for Romney.

Somebody please post the real numbers if you have them.

I don't have a link to the article, but the numbers I saw from the last month they posted their donations, the % that came from people donating less than $250 was about 97 or 98% for Obama and 94% for Romney.

We had a Romney event in one of our old money neighborhoods today and the "hundreds" of protestors who were supposed to show up turned out to be about 50 and at least a dozen of those were Romney SUPPORTERS counter protesting.

Trying to present an image that there's this huge ground swell of anti R&R protestors rates a fail with me. I wouldn't be surprised if the "hundreds protest" was in reality a few dozen of the traveling circus of professionally offended (who seemed to be well represented in Myers Park today) clowns who seem genuinely angry but in reality are just punching the clock for their latest "cause".

I wouldn't trust a republican in the company of a buzzard, for more than 2 minutes not to eat the buzzard. Why do so many republicans have to pay homage to so many rats like Norquist and Adelson? Mitt Wit the Twit

His campaign’s latest attempt to explain how and when Romney left Bain Capital — he’s supposed to have “retired retroactively” at some unspecified date —
has became an instant punch line for JOKES!

The only reason anyone cares when Romney left Bain Capital, the private equity firm he founded and ran, is because Romney made a totally unreasonable claim: When Democrats pointed to the outsourcing and job cuts at companies Bain owned or controlled, Romney denied any responsibility since these unfortunate developments took place after he left to run the Winter Olympics in 1999.

This was an absurd position to take. Romney has boasted of his prowess at
creating jobs by pointing to successful companies in which Bain invested, such
as Staples,This growth took place after 1999. Romney was trying to take
credit for post-departure successes but not for failures.

He then tried to insist on another ridiculous proposition, which is that he
left Bain suddenly and completely in 1999. This cannot possibly be true.
          Romney
was Bain Capital — chairman, chief executive and sole
stockholder. There is no way he could have disentangled himself from the firm so abruptly.

Indeed, he did not. As late as 2002, Bain’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission list Romney as chairman, chief executive and sole stockholder. SO Mitt Wit the Twit ids LYING

If you look at Romney’s signature on those documents and listen to what he’s been saying on the campaign trail, you have to conclude that either he lied to
the SEC or he’s lying to voters now
          .

IF HE LIED TO THE SEC HE HAS COMMITTED A FELONY!

THERE MUST BE AN IMMEDIATE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MAN!

                So soon?

Paul Ryan comes to kiss the arse of his owner and banker.

Question: which one is the more corrupt, the more crooked and the more anti-American?

trick question. All the right-wing bankers and political lackeys are corrupt and anti-American. Crimes does pay if you are a goper mobster or money launderer.

Why do you think that you or society have a right to money other people have worked for? Why do you think that you have a right to my efforts? If that right were actually exerted, then I would never earn again, just go to the government with my hand out ---- just like you!

I'm all for welfare reform(seen far too many people with Mercedes paying for groceries with food stamps for example), but you can't ignore the prevalence of corporate welfare either. Please hold back with all the judgments and jumping to conclusions as that is what is wrong with our society today, "US vs them". On one of the spectrum you have "poor leeches" and the "rich/corporate leeches" of society. Tell me, which one has more potential and power to destroy America?

Why do you think that you or society have a right to money other people have worked for?

This is what baffles me sometimes about us Americans. We have such a me me me, mine mine mine attitude. Such warped sense of property. While in countries like Japan they work towards the better good of the country. I personally have no problem with paying more taxes as long as the funds are used towards the over all good of our society. The only problem is, individuals in power are selfish, and they end up mismanaging our dime.

I lean towards democrat, but ideally I feel that bigger gov isn't a bad thing as long as the gov is put in check, just like corporations should be regulated. After all, NO ONE has the general public interest in mind, but at least the gov has to somewhat answer to the people.

But, I can't comprehend why anyone would agree agree with Ryan seeing that he wants to scrap medicare and the likes, and all while wanting to increase the military budget. Medicare and SS are entitlements and should be, we all have and continued to pay our dues.

"While in countries like Japan they work towards the better good of the country."

With an alarmingly high rate of teen suicide.

A government that allows Nuclear power plants to go virtually unchecked.

An economy that collapsed a decade before Europe and still has not recovered.

And all of it built on hundreds of years of absolute social conformity, the same social conformity that created ritual suicide in service of your feudal master, the same social conformity that led WW2 and Kamikaze pilots, the same social conformity that created a belief that the Japanese were better than all other Asians and so could easily justify (and they have never admitted to or apologized for) the "rape of Nanking", or their own version of the Holocaust.

So yeah, very altruistic people, so long as the people do what society wants them to do and so long as you don't make waves. Ever wonder why Japanese youth culture has always been so much more anti-old guard than anywhere else in the world, including America? Because social conformity comes at the expense of personal freedom of expression.

I will take all the bad things of America and embrace my freedom of self expression, and pass it along to my son any day over the best that Japan has to offer in the way of altruism.

Just look at the people clinging to the abrams tank. The tanks and F22's are useless and obsolete. Who wants to keep these expensive toys? The military personel, the GOP and their communist south. Communists, I tell ya! Everybody wears the same uniform. Free education, free healthcare, free national heroism. Corruption at high levels of contractors. Bribery.

Lucky for you, Obama is stearing it back to a viable form of capitalism.

                Ding ding ding... WRONG ANSWER

The history of capitalism can be traced back to early forms of merchant capitalism practiced in Western Europe during the Middle Ages,[1] though many[who?] economic historians consider the Netherlands as the first thoroughly capitalist country. In Early modern Europe it featured the wealthiest trading city (Amsterdam) and the first full-time stock exchange. The inventiveness of the traders led to insurance and retirement funds, along with much less benign phenomena as well, such as the boom-bust cycle, the world's first asset-inflation bubble, the tulip mania of 1636–1637, and according to Murray Sayle, the world's first bear raider – Isaac le Maire, who in 1607 forced prices down by dumping stock and then buying it back at a discount.[2]

                Guess some things never change.

TruePatriot, you just lied. In reality the POPULOUS states support the states with low populations because the states with low populations tend to be very large with huge amounts of transportation infrastructure so trains, planes, and trucks can PASS THROUGH. Transportation dollars are the biggest distribution from the federal government to the states.

Some states, including Alaska and Virginia, received more than $15,000 per person from the federal government, even after subtracting the billions the state spent on income tax. This figure is nearly two-and-a-half times the amount received per person after taxes in states like Nevada, one of the poorest states in the country.

It would be expected that states that receive more money from the federal government are in greater need. However, most of the 10 states with the highest federal spending per capita had a higher median household income than the United States average. In fact, the first-, third-, fourth- and fifth-wealthiest by this measure all received the most money from the government. Because of their wealth, these states spent the most per capita in income tax, but it is negligible compared to the vast amounts they received

A review of the data shows that some very large programs, including defense spending, Medicare and Medicaid, Social Security, and farm subsidies, had major effects on how much money each state received, to the extent that individuals get far more per person than in other states. In some cases, it was several programs that affected the total amount the government spent on the state per capita, but in others, it may have been just one program.

Often that program was defense spending. States like Virginia, Alaska, Maryland and New Mexico received the most money per capita in federal procurement spending, which includes things like Medicaid and NASA, but the majority of which goes to the Department of Defense. To give an idea of the amount of money the federal government poured into military bases and research centers in these states, the government spent approximately $7,300 per person on all programs in Nevada. It also spent approximately $5,000 per person on defense spending alone in Virginia.

Another program that requires a great deal of funding is the direct payments outside of retirement and disability. Within this category is Medicare. A couple of the states that received the most federal funds also received an extraordinarily large amount of money for medical prescription drug coverage under Medicare. More than 25% of all the funds that Connecticut received from the federal government were for drug benefits under Medicare.

Thats because I think that because churches pay no taxes. Money guys heed that. Also Romney doesnt pay a lot of federal taxes, but he pays the Mormon church a lot of contribution voluntarily. To which one does he have his allegiance to, you think? The one which he pays voluntarily, or the one that he doesnt want to pay and makes sure he doesnt pay it as a legislator?

Why sure Romney has paid 13% plus about 7% to his church. He has paid more in one year than Obama will probably ever pay. Obama is a loser. He is nothing with out the presidency and his tele prompter just like he was before. Loser. He attracts a lot of losers and hanger ons. Sad really.

Religion equals money people. That is whacked thinking. If that was true everyone on grape vive would be running to join a church. Oh wait it is easier to see if a check is in the mail box . Did Obama ever have a real job? A paying job I wonder... ever? Maybe he did as the community organizer or maybe Acorn paid him. Maybe Rev Wright gave him some cash from his G.D America sermon. Time to take out the trash.

Instead of meeting with constituents and voters and taking questions from citizens about what Romney and Ryan really have in store, Ryan runs immediately to one of the biggest bankrollers for the right, Sheldon Adelson. Money is what they care about and he and Romney will strike any deal with the devil for financial support. Adelson isn't some altruistic donor. He wants something, many things, like his compatriots, the Kochs. The Romney-Ryan ticket is available to the highest bidders and will bend over backwards to do their bidding. There's not a smarmier group in politics than the big donor deniers in the Republican Party. By immediately kowtowing to the Adelsons of the world, Romney and Ryan further confirm their complete disdain for democracy and the will of the people.

It should be of no surprise that among Barak Obama's top 20 campaign contributors, 5 are financial institutions. (Also of note, 4 are law firms and 1 is the largest tax evader in the United States - General Electric). Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, UBS, and Morgan Stanley are all active supporters of President Obama, the targets of anti-Wall Street populism, recievers of bailout money, and have grown market share significantly in the past 4 years.

Competition among financial institutions has been reduced dramatically in the past 4 years, with the average size of these companies increasing 175% despite Obama's pledge to reduce average financial institution size.

Nope, Goodman's not mayor any more.

And before he was mayor of Las Vegas, he gained a reputation for being organized crime's number one lawyer.

Google him; back in the day, Goodman was Lefty Rosenthal's attorney. Goodman was "elected" (installed) mayor back when the mob ran everything in Vegas.

Sure they do, Gem. Adelson's main income comes from Chinese casinos. His other main interest is the State of Israel. Neither are a state in the 50 that I am aware of.

Adelson's 2 casinos (The Venetian in Vegas and the Sands in Bethlehem) both create alot of jobs. Good for Adelson for expanding his business internationally.

Obama is the one TRYING to get in bed with the Chinese, and they are just laughing at him and waiting for him to totally bankrupt the U.S.

Sorry, GermanGem but that foreign owenership of the US by foreign countries is from Bush borrowing money from China to pay for his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while giving the wealthy two tax rate reductions. We would be a lot better off financially if Bush had told Americans to pay for his wars. Now, China owns us!

Actually, it is not really true. In the Oklahoma primary Obama got only 56% of the votes and a devoted anti-abortion candidate and a convict got enough votes to get a few delegates to the convention. It would be somewhat embarrassing for a president to lose even a few seats in most states, but this is Oklahoma, the reddest of red states. In 2008 Obama didn't carry a single county and Republicans control the entire state government. The inmates are actually in charge of the asylum.

Excellent point HNL! I know an engineering prof at USC who did just that - offered a communist grading system in which everyone in the class got the average of the grades all the students earned. Being liberals, they accepted with glee. Three weeks later they begged to go back to the traditional system because they were all flunking and each felt his classmates were letting him down.

Poll: Nine percent of Obama ’08 voters want Romney now

                            By: Hope Hodge

                            8/9/2012 05:08 PM

Favor is fickle, and hope and change was easier to promise than deliver on.

A new Gallup poll shows that nearly 10 percent of voters who supported Barack Obama during his 2008 run have decamped and will be supporting Republican challenger Mitt Romney in this next election. At nine percent, the rate of Obama ’08 defectors is nearly double the five percent of former McCain ’08 supporters who now say they’ll cast a vote for Obama.

Partly loyalty is higher in the Republican camp too, with 92 percent of former McCain supporters saying they’re sticking with the red ticket, while only 86 percent of Obama’s 2008 base say they’re staying true.

The poll surveyed more than 2,000 registered voters who punched a ballot in 2008.

Now for some number play: if we make the broad assumption that the poll data is representative of the general population and do some extrapolation, tallying nine percent of 69,456,897 (Obama’s 2008 vote count) and subtracting five percent of John McCain’s 59,934,814 votes, we end up with a potential 3.25 million more votes for Romney than McCain had four years ago. It’s nothing concrete, but it’s becoming clear that election 2012 will be a far different race than 2008 was.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 47% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 44%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

And the Romney/Ryan Campaign is just getting warmed up!!!

Only thing that counts is the electoral votes and at this point in time O has well over the 270 that is needed.

If Romney loses Florida he is toast!!!

Robme just handed Florida to Obama. Game. Set. Match.

One doesn't have to wonder why no link was provided for the above article.:

I personally do not care about polls- they're irrelevant to the point; and as anyone knows, statistics can be skewed to say anything you want (depending on what you want to say). IMHO Mitt might have done better to choose a less polarizing VP candidate. The fact that within a week of selection, Ryan is running the donation plate among the 1%- Not surpising at all.

The funny thing is that basically, my vote wont count, as I do not live in a battleground state. However- Mitt's VP choice couldn't have been more polarizing for those battleground states. I just don't get the thought process. If you REALLY wanted to knock the ball out of the park- Why make a pick that comforts those who's votes you already have? McCain made the same mistake with his pick....only Ryan is much smarter- but basically as out of touch as Palin.

As a middle of the road, non-party voter- I would like to see Obama get the 8 year stretch that Dubya got- Rather than give the WH back to the guys that dug most of the hole that we're in now.

Yep. That's why Bush lost the popular vote, but still won the election in 2000. Stupid Democrats didn't understand the Constitution and claimed Bush "stole" the election.

Oh, do make up your mind! If "Good always prevails" then Obama will be re-elected. But if "Good always prevails", then Bush Jr. would never have been elected.

If Romney / Ryan get elected, then The American People will have had it - A redo of Bush economics will crash the economy for good!.

Lots of people that voted for Obama last election will not this time. Here is part of an email I received explaining why:

Now to an analysis of the voting blocks that matter in U.S.
                            Politics:

*Black voters. Obama has nowhere to go but down among this
group. His endorsement of gay marriage has alienated many black church-going
Christians. He may get 88% of their vote instead of the 96% he got in 2008.
This is not good news for Obama.

*Hispanic voters. Obama has nowhere to go but down among
this group. If Romney picks Rubio as his VP running-mate the GOP may pick up
an extra 10% to 15% of Hispanic voters (plus lock down Florida). This is not
                            good news for Obama.

*Jewish voters. Obama has been weak in his support of
Israel. Many Jewish voters and big donors are angry and disappointed. I
predict Obama's Jewish support drops from 78% in 2008 to the low 60's. This
is not good news for Obama.

*Youth voters. Obama's biggest and most enthusiastic
believers from 4 years ago have graduated into a job market from hell. Young
people are disillusioned, frightened, and broke--a bad combination. The
enthusiasm is long gone. Turnout will be much lower among young voters, as
will actual voting percentages. This not good news for Obama.

*Catholic voters. Obama won a majority of Catholics in 2008.
That won't happen again. Out of desperation to please women, Obama went to
war with the Catholic Church over contraception. Now he is being sued by the
Catholic Church. Majority lost. This is not good news for Obama.

*Small Business owners. Because I ran for Vice President
last time around, and I'm a small businessman myself, I know literally
thousands of small business owners. At least 40% of them in my circle of
friends, fans and supporters voted for Obama 4 years ago to "give someone
different a chance." I warned them that he would pursue a war on capitalism
and demonize anyone who owned a business...that he'd support unions over the
private sector in a big way...that he'd overwhelm the economy with spending
and debt. My friends didn't listen. Four years later, I can't find one
person in my circle of small business owner friends voting for Obama. Not
one. This is not good news for Obama.

*Blue collar working class whites. Do I need to say a thing?
White working class voters are about as happy with Obama as Boston Red Sox
fans feel about the New York Yankees. This is not good news for Obama.

*Suburban moms. The issue isn't contraception--it's having a
job to pay for contraception. Obama's economy frightens these moms. They are
worried about putting food on the table. They fear for their children's
future. This is not good news for Obama.

*Military Veterans. McCain won this group by 10 points.
Romney is winning by 24 points. The more our military vets got to see of
Obama, the more they disliked him. This is not good news for Obama.

Add it up. Is there one major group where Obama has gained
since 2008? Will anyone in America wake up on election day saying "I didn't
vote for Obama 4 years ago. But he's done such a fantastic job, I can't wait
to vote for him today." Does anyone feel that a vote for Obama makes their
                            job more secure?

Forget the polls. My gut instincts as a Vegas odds maker
and common sense small businessman tell me this will be a historic landslide
and a world-class repudiation of Obama's radical and risky socialist agenda.
                            It's Reagan-Carter all over again.

"Here's some useless statistics and generalizations that I received in email or read from my party aligned website- so I believe them."

The prince of Nigeria has some money that he needs you to launder too. Truly, Spider; Is YOUR life better, worse, or the same since the current POTUS took office? Don't read someone else's BS spin on what their statistics tell you, and join the throngs of sheeple who believe that "the end is near" because you read it on a bumper sticker or as the title of a Fox or NBC News article. Look around in your community- Are things better, or worse? Then, think about REALLY who might be responsible for that-

I started to respond in bullet points to your demographic voting- But got tired-head reading all of the generalities. Mainly because I might be a young, black, catholic, female, suburban (contraception needing- lol, btw), small business owner. See how statistics work?

I will just generalize in kinda and say that blue states will most likely stay blue, and red states stay red. Its the battleground states that will win or lose an election for a president. (Don't forget that the Electorial College, and not popular vote determines who wins, btw.)

Please get your helmet on straight- stop looking through the ear-hole as alot of us have been doing for the last 8 years because the Brian Urlacher of recessions has hit us and we've still not regained full consciousness.

Be careful when you decide to attack a candidate for his religion. You open the door to examine Obama's religion as told by Jeremiah Wright ...

Wright's views but while Romney who protested in favor of the Vietnam War while in college, took a religious deferment to avoid service, Rev. Wright was carrying an M16 in Vietnam. You may not like Rev. Wright but at least he served his country unlike Chickenhawk Romney.

Good point Kannin, but you should pass those sentiments on to the ultra conservative Christian sect of the GOP. After all, they seem to be the ones who kept bringing that issue up during the GOP primaries and are still doing so today. Huntsman was in the same boat before he bowed out, but I think he would have been a much better choice than the guy the GOP is now promoting.

Obama's people don't really need to focus on Romney's religion at all...for them, there are just too many other target-rich aspects of that man that can be discussed.

Now, think these questions through in their entirety...just exactly WHO is it that continually professes Obama to be a Muslim? WHO is it that's always bashing him for sitting in the pews of Rev. Wright?

The answer is a very simple 3 letter abbreviation...first letter is a "G". Ring any bells with you now? So by your proclaimed mantra, you can't possibly approve of them either, can you? Well, you have a lot of company in that sentiment.

And Josh...a tip...you should research a subject before you respond so negatively. Blackbelt is absolutely correct in what he said about Romney concerning the Viet Nam war. That history thingy is such a hard obstacle to overcome, isn't it?

People are being encouraged to get hooked on drugs (legal and illegal) and gambling. There is no new vision anymore out there. Not someone who emulates Marx and Darwin. Instead people are running around in circles, waiting for the next NFL or NBA bracket. Just clinging to old ideas. Nobody ever finds a new idea. Something that exceeds old thinking in socialism vs capitalism.

By the way: there is a good reason why foreign countries take a huge part in the debt of a country. It is called taking interest in eachother. The USA has huge interests in other foreign countries and powerhouses. Just the same the other way around. It ensures there is no armed war anymore. The "old-fashioned" wars are almost over. Today its economic warfare. If your wallet hurts, you change behavior. Same at statelevel. Some countries are not at that level yet. its the tribal countries. Those get the oldfashioned carrot and stick treatment.

China isnt an enemy. Why is everybody proud of an I-phone when the same time customers are the "slave-owners" themselves? The gadget makes you oppress the Chinese workers. And still blame China for being communist. hilarious!

People should look through the curtain/veil of words like socialism and capitalism and look further. People are all alike everywhere. You are just lucky to be born in a place where you have internet and can buy an I-phone instead of assembling it.

what a bunch of idiot liberals. they will say anything to demonize the opponent of their messiah, obama. i guess they are a different breed of rats. they are the liberal breed. they will not abandon but would gladly go down with their messiah's sinking ship.

Sailor'52 your words will fall on deaf ears as they are lost souls. They like 8% unemployment and a President that vetoes a real job creator like the keystone pipeline.

The actual number of people that protested were probably 11. That would equal 100 to NBC news. Even 100 people would be iminuscule for Vegas....what a weak story.

Last thing, someone posted they will vote for President Obama because Ryan met with a guy worth 100 million. This is why this Country could be in trouble. We have done a good job dumbing down our population.

Progressives don't care about unemployment because when you're on welfare, a lazy arsed Government worker, or a disability fraud work is a foreign concept. AQ person who has never worked and has no intention of working doesn't care ifthe unemployment rate is 100%.

Jeff if that's true...why is it the red states are taking more Fed $ than Blue states??? I know in Utah...the reddest state of them all...we take a huge chunk of change from the Gov. And then our elected idiots try and Sue them for more..go figure. I f we had people paying for the big families they have we would be a less "welfare State".
