Romney calls Obama presidency 'angry and desperate'

CHILLICOTHE, OH – Mitt Romney used the final rally on his five-state bus tour to paint President Obama as an "intellectually exhausted" leader, forced to resort to "angry and desperate" tactics in his battle for re-election.

"This is an election in which we should be talking about the path ahead, but you don't hear any answers coming from President Obama’s re-election campaign,” Romney said. “That’s because he's intellectually exhausted, out of ideas, and out of energy. And so his campaign has resorted to diversions and distractions, to demagoguing and defaming others. It’s an old game in politics; what’s different this year is that the president is taking things to a new low."

While stumping in Ohio, the Republican presidential candidate preached to a receptive audience. President Obama focused on energy issues as well, praising wind power while campaigning in Iowa. And VP contender Paul Ryan began polishing his stump speech, laced with attacks on Obama's leadership. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

The speech, delivered before several thousand in the town square of Ohio's first capital city, was designed to contrast then-candidate Obama's soaring language of hope and change with the mud-slinging, increasingly nasty tone of this election’s TV ads and campaign trail rhetoric.

"This is what an angry and desperate presidency looks like," Romney said. "President Obama knows better, promised better and America deserves better."

"Over the last four years, this president has pushed Republicans and Democrats about as far apart as they can go,” Romney continued. “And now he and his allies are pushing us all even further apart by dividing us into groups. He demonizes some. He panders to others. His campaign strategy is to smash America apart and then try to cobble together 51 percent of the pieces."

Mitt Romney's running mate, VP contender Paul Ryan, has a voting record that – at times – conflicts with his political identity as a fiscal conservative. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports.

On a day that began with a battle over Medicare policy and that descended into a heated back-and-forth over charged comments made by Vice President Joe Biden in southern Virginia, Romney decried the negative tone of the campaign – even as he went on the attack.

Biden tells audience GOP banks would put them 'back in chains'

"Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago and let us get about rebuilding and reuniting America," Romney said.

The Obama campaign responded with a statement pointing out Romney's campaign, too, is engaged in negative attacks over the airwaves.

“Governor Romney's comments tonight seemed unhinged, and particularly strange coming at a time when he's pouring tens of millions of dollars into negative ads that are demonstrably false,” Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said.

The bottom 40% of the population in this country own .3% of the wealth

The middle 40% of the population in this country own 15.7% of the wealth

The top 20% of the population in this country own 84% of the wealth

If you break down the top 20%, then 1% control about 2/3s of that 84%.

Romney wants to cut their taxes still more, despite the fact that they only pay from 10% to 15% on earned income each year. He says they will create jobs if they get another tax break. But if you're only paying 10% now, and you haven't created any jobs, why would reducing the taxes by half of that make you create any more jobs? Besides which, they are creating jobs. They're creating jobs in India, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, etc etc. These are the same people who wave flags and demand that we get into some more wars. These are the same people who are currently collecting tax credits for shipping our jobs overseas. These are the people the Republicans represent.

These are the people currently receiving $1 trillion every year in subsidies (corporate welfare). These are the people who want to use vouchers for medicare. After all, they own the insurance companies, whoopie, another windfall!

These are the people who complain about the social welfare costs of $52 billion per year. (But corporate welfare is just fine, right?)

These are the people who have plotted to disenfranchise tens of thousands of legal voters in order to cut down on the Democratic turn-out. This despite the fact that the incidents of voter fraud don't even add up to ten legitimate cases nationwide. They are doing an end run around the Constitution while they call themselves good Americans. They are shipping our jobs overseas while they call themselves good Americans. These are the people who are destroying our country for their own personal gain.

Yes - raise taxes on those that create the jobs and then wonder why all the jobs are going overseas and why capital is hiding in tax shelters. Quit with the talking points, take a moment to understand how economies work, look at history to see that lower tax rates have always resulted in economic growth and greater revenues to the treasury.

Take 100% of the wealth of the 1% and you'll hardly put a dent in rampant deficits and completely destroy the economy. The reason folks can attempt to make the argument that Romney's proposal to reduce taxes for everybody amounts to a cut for the rich is because they are the ones paying the taxes.

Economic growth comes as a result of unleashing the innovative power of individuals, not by government selecting winners and losers based on political contributions.

Angry and desperate is how Romney sounds-Obama looks like he's having a good time out there.....

Romney has reason to be both angry and desperate.....Obama is waiting for him around every corner to blow his strategy out of the water.....

He can't run on his record at Bain.....too much fodder.....

He can't run on his Olympic record.....he asked the feds for too much money....

He can't run on his record as Gov of Mass.....he did very poorly.....

All he can do is run on his money....oops, can't do that either, because he can't release his tax returns....

why did you GOP'ers pick this guy????? You must want to lose....

You had a good candidate in Huntsman-he was certainly better qualified, but you chose Romney. Good luck with that. You had better hope voter suppression works big time, because he can't win unless it does.

The GOP needs to get someone competent to run. They haven't had anyone who knew which end was up in a very long time, really since Bush41.

Anger and desperation....why, I do believe you have the right emotions- but in the wrong place.

Look down, Mitt- look at the little people who used to be citizens before corporations like Baen disenfranchised them.

THERE'S your anger and desperation- you missed it in yet another demonstration of your profound disconnect from those you hope will vote for you.

People are also mad at Obama- but that has more to do with his failure to line some of the more radical elements of the right up against a wall and having them shot for obstructionism bordering on treason than for anything he's done.

Just a thought...look down once in a while.

Fe you've got that right. There is a lot of anger and desperation out there. Bain helped create some of it. Here's a thought for you. If, God forbid, Romney were to win this election and put the Ryan budget into effect, the unemployment rate would skyrocket, the working poor would go hungry, the middle class would slide still further down the economic ladder. Then, you would go from anger and desperation to rage and desperation. And I think there might be some serious violence when these rwnjs finally figured out they had been had.

Swing-State Poll: Race A Dead Heat, Ryan Bolsters Romney’s Image

Rep. Paul Ryan boosts Mitt Romney to a 1-point lead in a new survey of swing states.

The poll, from bipartisan firm Purple Strategies, combined survey of voters of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. The Romney-Ryan ticket leads Obama-Biden 47 percent to 46 percent overall.

Romney’s overall favorability has ticked up, from 41 percent a month ago to 45 percent now. But his unfavorable rating only dropped a point, from 49 percent to 48 percent. The boost for Romney may also be due to fact that President Obama’s approval rating dropped off slightly — 43 percent of swing-state voters approve of the president’s job perforance, while 51 percent disapprove. In July, the Purple Poll found a 46 approve-49 disapprove split.

“The Romney-Ryan ticket is fueled by an 11-point advantage among independents,” pollsters wrote in their analysis. “This represents an increase from July, when Romney held a 5-point margin over Obama among that key group.”

While Ryan has improved the Republican ticket within the overall swing state picture, his impact isn’t as clear in the most crucial places:

Romney has seen the largest gain in Ohio, a state we have seen bounce between the campaigns over the last few months. Today, the GOP ticket leads by 2 points (46% to 44%), compared to July when President Obama led the state 48% to 45%). Romney also gained ground in Virginia - today, he and Paul Ryan hold a 3- point advantage in the race (48% to 45%), while Romney trailed by 2 points in July.

                          Romney/Ryan 2012!!! Leadership for a change!!!

There is one hope, and ONLY ONE REMAINING HOPE for the present failed U.S. system of federal government, and that is a major redrafting of the U.S. Constitution in order to put far greater democratic power into the hands of the American people. Sadly, it has turned out to be completely impossible to persuade the American people of this vital necessity leading up to this 2012 national election, and if things don't get fixed this time around then the future prospects for this country (and this world) are EXTREMELY DIM. In any case, I won't personally be trying to save this failing superpower anymore, much less the rest of this failing world. Have fun with your program "End Times', everyone! That is really all there is left to say, since you wouldn't listen to me along the way. From here on out, you all shall be the collective victims of your own devices. Bye, bye! - Rick Carter

Obama sounds more like Hugo Chavez everyday. I don't know if he is angry or desperate but I do know that he knows that with all is spending, he does not have much to show for it. Its strange how a president of the US must use deceit, lies and false claims to run a campaign. Romney will not do nothing but improve the conditions of the US. He knows the situation and state of the nation and will do what he can to turn things around. He is not against women, he is not against the middle class and he is not after changes that will hurt the country. Obama has done nothing but split the nation, deplete the middle class and help only the few at the expense of the majority. Unite the country, that is the only way we can succeed. No on Obama.

Romney is just mad, because he know how easy it is to BS the American people, and Obama is taking away from Romney's desire to take advantage of it. Romney is trying to convince Americans he's not in this just for himself, and the 1%, and it's not working. Romney ses nothing more than the millions in tax breaks he'll get, should the slim, slim chance his BS sticks, and the American people buy into his BS. Luckily the American people know they already bought into that same BS with GWB.

inheritance, patronizing foreign entities for personal gain and avoiding taxes and
                                    the rule of law.

                                    5. Current Income: That’s a secret, just like my religion and tax returns. Can we
                                    change the subject?

                                    6. Job expectation: Turn the U.S. into a Theocratic Oligarchy Plutocracy.

                                    7. Tell us about your previous career? CEO.

                                    8. What did your job entail? Vulture capitalism, exploiting companies, employees,
and middle class, outsourcing jobs, oops - erase all of that. I’d rather not go into
detail, good things, but if you really knew you wouldn’t hire me.

                                    9. Other career experience? Governor

                                    10. Tell us more about your experience in this field: I’d rather not say, people
know too much already, and please don’t ask about the 47th in job creation
                                    ranking . . .

                                    11. If you are successful in getting the job what are your plans? As I’ve made it
very clear, if you knew my plans I wouldn’t get the job.

                                    12. What makes you stand out from other candidates? I’m not them.

                                    13. Why would we choose you over another candidate? I have been on every side of everything so how can I go wrong, you tell me? I’m a renaissance liar.

                                    15. What do you hope to gain from this experience? Ultimate power over a whole
nation and planet and reorder the world in my image. A cold and calculating place
where only those born into wealth and privilege deserve it and those that aren’t
have to sacrifice all to keep us content. Aren’t you listening? I told you previously
that I want to be President of a Theocratic Oligarchy Plutocracy.

                                    16. Who is your real base? About 150 people but they can afford to spend enough billions and own enough of the media, to deceive the fools who would vote for me against their own interests.

                                    17. What are your hobbies? Money, telling lies, hiding money, avoiding paying
taxes on money, picture framing money, bobbing for money, needlepoint sewing
images of money, stuffing mattresses with money, wallpapering my car elevator
with money, wiping my hindpots with money dollar bills like Franklin, Cleveland -
Wilson is my favorite, swimming in my money vault, worshipping money. . . . .
Did I mention greed, lying, and money?

                                    18. If chosen what will you do? None of the things I promised because I said I
won’t get the job if you knew. Stop trying to trick me by holding me accountable.

                                    19. What are you counting on to be selected? Gullibility, Greed, Bigotry, and Hate.

                                    20. Do you have any questions about family healthcare benefits? No. I was advised
that my family and I would have excellent healthcare benefits paid by the
Taxpayer, and I can even get a $77,000 tax deduction for my horse, which includes
$2000 for my horse’s healthcare. I’m not really concerned about healthcare for the rest of Americans, they can fend for themselves . . .

I learned today that Willards nickname in MA while he was Governor was Feefee. He didn't want to appear to be raising taxes, so instead tried to add new and higher fees. Check out this link:

As George Carlin said so well: "Whenever you hear businessmen talking about what policy is best for America, don't bend over". We need redistribution of the wealth, not someone dedicated to widening that gap. I believe we need a new blueprint and that the imperialistic capitalism that rules now, is not workable in the reality of the world we now live in.

Overpopulation, basic resources running out and/or not available due to the climatic changes that appear to me, to be the new norm is not a reality where so few control the wealth will work for the rest of us.

Mitt boy with his bottom line mentality would be brutal for the majority of us. Not him mind you. Because money equals the ultimate power those few who have it control all and I for one am tired of these rules.

Having friends who have lived in Utah all their lives under Mormon rule I also say no thanks to that also. His indoctrination and belief system from birth will impact decisions he makes. If you are into whitebread patriarchal heaven go ahead and vote for him.

If Mitt the Twit is elected I just figure there really is something to this 2012 thing.

Here are the results of the Job Creators efforts after over 10 years of the Bush Era Tac Breaks....Are they creating jobs? You tell me. Where is the money they have save over 10 years? Pay increases? NO........More jobs? NO.......... CEO and other executive bonuses? YES!

The Republicans refused to pass the tax cut extension, unless the Jobs Creators got their tax breaks extended. Let's give more to the wealthy or the middle class gets nothing.

In the week ending August 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 366,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 364,000. The 4-week moving average was 363,750, a decrease of 5,500 from the previous week's revised average of 369,250.

Thank you Republicans and Jobs Creators for your kindnesses and support for the 99% of Americans!

This is just hilarious. Coming from the right wing it's really fantastic.

Hahahaha! Romney is delusional all the way. Without knowing where this quote comes from or if he had left the part of his lie out that refers to "this president" one would believe it to be a description of Romney himself and his VP pick and just about any Republican on the Hill and the airwaves.

How much more proof do you right wing lemmings need that you are being led by the nose to the slaughter by a bunch of evil ideologues?

Do these people really believe they can fool us all?

None of them are very bright. Proof that wealth doesn't come from intellect In fact most intellectuals are not wealthy since their passion is not about amassing fortunes.

Need another example of wealthy stupidity? Watch the interview by Natalie Morales on NBC. This dumb woman doesn't even realize what she has just said, what she has just admitted when she tells Morales that releasing more tax returns will " just give them more ammunition". For certain, it reveals that the Romney's have much to hide. I could almost see her sweating. If she hadn't been so angry and outraged at Morales for asking her what we all want to know, she might have made a "good" impression.
