While stumping in Ohio, Romney preached to a receptive audience. In Iowa, President Obama focused on energy issues, praising wind power. And VP contender Paul Ryan began polishing his stump speech, laced with attacks on Obama's leadership. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
WYTHEVILLE, Va. – Vice President Joe Biden sought Tuesday evening to clarify language he used earlier in the day, saying his charge that the Republican ticket's banking policies would "put you all back in chains" was merely a reference to the GOP's own rhetoric about the "unshackling" of economic forces.
Biden made the comment, which sparked immediate controversy, in the southern Virginia town of Danville Tuesday morning.
Biden tells audience GOP, banks would put them ‘back in chains’
Noting that both Rep. Paul Ryan, the GOP vice presidential pick, and John Boehner, speaker of the House, have both proposed “unshackling” the American economy, Biden said those were the type of proposals that led to the financial crisis.
"The last time these guys unshackled the economy, to use their term, they put the middle class in shackles," Biden told his audience in Wytheville, Va. "That’s how we got where we are."
Later conceding that he used the more charged verb "unchain" rather than "unshackle" in his earlier remarks – particularly because his audience in Danville, Va. included hundreds of African Americans -- Biden still took aim at Romney aides who called his statement "outrageous."
Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement earlier today that Biden's reference to GOP financial policies that would put Americans "in chains" was one that "reached a new low."
But Biden said in Wytheville that the metaphor belonged to the Ryan-Romney faction of the GOP itself.
"I’m using their own words!" Biden protested.
"I got a message for them," he added. "If you want to know want to know what’s outrageous, it’s their policies, and the effects of their policies on middle class America. That’s what’s outrageous."

Joe - You are 10 pounds stuffed in a 5 pound bag.
Next we'll hear from Wasserman (Isn't she on the Geico ads? How does she rotate each eye individually?)or Axelrod (resembling the perv your mom always warned you about) saying you were taken out of context.
That seems to happen a lot with you libbies.
She developed that ability by having to work with backstabbing republicans.
Hi Forrest, Hope you get the job you were talking about on another post. Also hope you are feeling better. Debbie "Blabber month" Wasserman is a putz and one of the biggest liars in Washington.
Romney's gaffes will get people killed
Obama 2012!!!!
What's the big deal IT'S THE TRUTH.
The Republicans want a permanent economic slave class.
So the 1% can get even richer
Thanks sarge, for the well wishes, I would like this job, and it seems if the cancer is gone. As far as Debbie Wasserman, I like Debbie, it is not easy for a women to get as far as she has in politics.
Mitt doesn't do chains anymore. He roof racks nowadays.
Bain/Pain 2012
IF they get their chance at Presidency, once Romney and his "side-kick," Ryan kills off middle America and the old folks, everyone will understand what Biden was talking about.
OBAMA/BIDEN/HOLDER....2012!!!!
Debt slavery, also known as indentured servitude, is common in countries we outsource our jobs to. And is becoming common in the US with students carrying enormous debt loads, which can not be relieved by bankruptcy. Funny how corporations can privatize profits, socialize the debts, declare bankruptcy while paying themselves huge bonuses. Corporations are more than people; they have rights people do not have.
Moshuluu - Don't know how old you are but can't be to old. The democrats have been using the Social Security and Medicare scare tactics since the early 70s.
I would think an incumbent could run on his accomplishments, but then Obama really doesn't have any major accomplishments. He can't run on Obamacare, even after the Supremes gave him a victory, because a majority of the people still do not like it.
Obama can't run on social security or Medicare because he has no plans to make sure the programs remain solvent. Medicare has about 12 yrs of life left according to the Medicare actuaries. Obama can't run on his failed energy policy, and not even his foreign policy.
I believed Carter was the worst President during my time, but Obama is right up there with Carter.
Truth hurts huh? Using your team's words against them.
How about Allen West and his slavery comments?
Biden is about as sharp as a bag of wet mice. Mr President please stay healthy, what we do if Biden ran this country. He's one reason I'm undecided in my vote. Obama isn't a bad guy; how did he end up with Biden.
Biden stepped into it again...!!!
Dal,
How is this, the case you speak off?
You mean like the president killing an American citizen only suspected of terrorism without due process, Obama just strip him of every constitutional right that he had. Now, that got someone killed and it was an AMERICAN to be exact. No it does not matter what he was accused of as there are courts for those accused of crimes Obama thinks he is so important that he can kill an American citizen in cold blood. Where were all you Libs on the violation of this man’s civil rights had it been Bush you would have been all over it. You Libs are a huge part of the problem with the do as I say not as we do. You Libs want everyone dependent on the government but tell me what happens when all of the working people’s money runs out. I don't see the supper rich Libs volunteering money to help this country. Like Steve Jobs now Apple they could give all kinds of money to the government if they wanted. I fail to see that line forming by those Libs. Also it is funny how Obama gives Apple a pass when most of parts for their products are made in China. So who exports JOBS? It is both sides due to government regulations not any other reason.
What about all the drones Obama is flying over America, why do you think that is? We are a free people with the use of drones that is a violation of most of our civil right that you Libs are so quick to point to if a Rep was to do this.
What has Obama done for the working-class he has tripled my wife’s insurance costs and lowered the medication that is covered under the plan? Before I could take $3000 for my flexible spending plan to cover medical cost now under Obama you can only elect $2500 for the same thing. They taxes on bottled water, the taxes on Tabaco, and on tanning most of these things are used by the poor and middle class I guess that it was a lie Obama preaching he was not going to raise tax on the middle class but that is exactly what he has done. He said no matter what he would get both side of Congress to work together and he has only made the gap worse. He said he would cut the defected in half in his first term but has spent double what Bush did in the same time. Also where is the transparency to government as Obama promised?
Obama has put the chains on the middle class and the poor and wants to look like he is doing something so he is going after the rich the job creators even though the experts say that taxing them as Obama wants will not even put a dent in the defect. He only wants to look like he is doing something. What about the two years that Obama had the House and Senate and still could not get anything passed by his own caucus. Libs are a bunch of hypocrites. Why is Obama allowing those that get welfare without working seems like he is trying to buy votes just like with the illegals.
VOTE THIS FAILURE OUT 2012
Really? Obama has drones flying all over America? Prove it! He tripled your wife's insurance and lowered the medication? Really? He even taxed your bottled water and "Tabaco." Really? Prove it!
Bill - you are watching too much BS on Faux News - either that or you are just plain ol wet on your brain. Maybe you live too close to high tension "Eletical" towers and you're receiving transmissions through the fillings in your mouth. In any case, we'd like to hear where you get your misinformation from so we can change the frequency because it's a mouth full of lies.
LOL.....Jumping Joe is onna roll.....another Gaffe.
Bill, I totally agree. Don't worry about the lib trolls on this BB, they are most likely all part of the Obama election campaign, which is obviously not working well.
Obama himself said it as well as anyone. "If I cannot turn this economy around in 3 years I don't deserve to be reelected". I for one agree with him on this one point!
Murphy----you didn't know of the drone bases in America? Look it up. AP story and hailed by some members of the senate (Sherrod Brown comes to mind).
Taxed "Tabaco"----really----ummm, that IS Obama at the beginning of his first term Feb. 9th 2009. To help support children's health care.
Forrest Grump----Obama is a druggie, self admitted, and never worked a day in his life. I am guessing your mother did not raise you right, or was perhaps a communist who met another communist and ditched the offspring of polygamy to communist grandparents to go to the "little red church".
By the way-----Joe is gonna get rolled in a debate. The lush can't handle simple control of vocabulary. He is a political dullard.
I hear the buzzzzzzz of the Obama drones-----faces idiots in tighty whities with cheetoes smudges on the gov. take.....more gov. makes for better country......buzzzzzzz....worked wonders with social security......buzzzzzzz....worked wondres with medicare......buzzzzzzz...laughable dullards.
Hey Mitt and the rest of you republicans --- you don't like what the VP said -- TOO BAD. Stop your whining and get over it. You clowns have been playing the race card every chance you had for the last 4 years. You fools can dish it out but you sure can't take it.
I sure am going to miss Joe's daily gaffes after next January.
This is a good time for students to learn that they shouldn't finance something they can't afford and don't need. Don't waste your money going to a university to get a liberal arts degree that has no future value and is only an opportunity for socialist indoctrination by the likes of Ward Churchill.
Biden's comments are just another example of the continued use of scare tactics by this administration to pander to a voting bloc or create class warfare - this time it was African Americans who have never had any type of indentured servitude; other times it's a Ryan look-alike throwing Granny off the cliff or Mitt Romney removing a woman's opportunity to purchase contraception. What a bunch of losers, liars, and lunatics.
Clueless Joe strikes again, and whats witht the fake southern accent, what a putz. Wasserman has come a long way, I knew her back when she was whoring.
"I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits -- either now or in the future." - President Obama to a Joint Session of Congress, September 9, 2009
How are those words tasting now, Mr. President?
I guess we are not chained to the deficits or national debt.
I don't know what's more disgusting. The Northeastern Yankee liberal saying "Y'all" to a black crowd or the representative of the party that actually kept slaves and fought a war to keep slaves and extend slavery talking about putting "y'all" back in chains.
Either way a deplorable speech.
Biden knew exactly what he was doing.
He was appealing to the Robert Byrd wing of the Democrat party.
Appealing to allll of those registered Democrats who voted for a convicted and jailed felon in the primary instead of Obama.
It's a very closed-minded bunch those Democrats!
Colorado
Nice post. True to the last word.
So it's ok for Republicans to say Democrats shackle us, but blasphemy for Democrats to say that Republicans chain us.
Wow, those Republicans are really sticking to the hard issues of the day. Along with voter ID laws, we easily see what they deem important to job-seeking Americans today.
Tennessee Ernie Ford sang about it.
We stopped it.
Now the republicons want it back.
16 tons and what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
I owe my soul to the Company Store.
miklkit,
One of my favorite songs, and only Ernie could do it justice. Sad to say, the life it describes is starting to come back.
I find it interesting that being rich is condemned in this country of capitalism. Capitalism is what helped shape this country into what it is, good and bad. But why is being rich always associated with the Republican party? How many Democratic politicians are driving back to the trailer park to run their re-election campaign? Both sides are corrupt and by all of us fighting with each, it just perpetuates the problem. I am a conservative, no doubt about it, it doesn't mean that I agree with Romney though, I didn't drink the kool-aid so to speak with him, but to see the number of people that put Obama on a pedestal shocks me.
Say what you want about Biden - nothing tops Miss Mittsy introducing Ryan as the next President of the United States.
Is everyone seeing what I am seeing? The only people coming out in support of Miss Mittsy are thoughtless liars? I guess Mittsy really does represent his constituency.
Shocked - I think this tops it
four years ago this month, then candidate Barack Obama announced and introduced his running mate the EXACT same way.
"So let me introduce to you the next president-. The next vice president of America, Joe Biden!"
Using your own words we must have been putting up with thoughtless liars in support of the "Failure in Chief" for over 3 years now!
Because if Romney or Ryan said it, this board would be lit up like a Christmas tree!
Its OK for democrats to reference slavery...but then Barry likes to keep Americans in slavery to the government!
Biden meant "unshackling of economic forces" just like Obama meant "you didn't build that' claiming he was referencing the roads and bridges. These two are the one's NBC and most on this forum are desperate to reelect to lead this nation for 4 more years. How disgusting and disgraceful.
Shameful, just shameful...and this is our leadership?

from so we can change the frequency because it's a mouth full of lies.
See none of what I have said is in fact a lie. Here is an article about Dem being pissed off about it.
This is what you Libs on the Left do not the Rep. Obama killed an American citizen suspected of terrorism. Now as this may seem fine to you he was an American and therefore had rights under our Constitution but Obama killed him and he did not have a right to do so as an America the suspected terrorist had a right to due process through our court system. If it can happen to him it can happen to any of us. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/10/news/la-pn-senate-democrat-challenges-obama-on-killing-american-terror-suspects-20120208. This is not the attempt of fear it is the kind of thing Obama is doing and all should fear.
Here is Holder defending the killing of Americans http://letsrollforums.com/obama-holder-dictatorship-killing-t27692.html
See unlike you I look at facts not spin from a side. It seems as though you are only interested in spin and not facts.
Why don't you research what it is you are talking about before you call someone a liar? When it is found out the person you are calling a liar is correct you look like an idiot.
Murphy,
You asked for it know live with the truth a quit trying to spin everything to be great. No it is not me being paranoid and listing to Fox News which I don't listen to it is however being informed and YOU ARE NOT INFORMED BUT WANT TO MAKE IT LOOK AS THOUGH OTHERS DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, YOU ARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY. YOU MAKE ACCUSATIONS ABOUT PEOPLE BEFORE YOU EVEN REASEARCH WHAT THE ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU ARE ONE OF THE SHEEP THAT ARE BEING LEAD YOU ARE NOR WILL YOU EVER BE A LEADER YOURSELF.
Here is the link on bottled water http://www.filtersfast.com/blog/index.php/tag/obamas-health-care-plan/.
Here is the drone link http://www.nowtheendbegins.com/blog/?p=8504.
Here is the Tabaco link ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette_taxes_in_the_United_States#Under_the_Obama_Administration with it saying
On February 4, 2009, the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 was signed into law, which raised the federal tax rate for cigarettes on April 1, 2009 from $0.39 per pack to $1.01 per pack.[6][7] The purpose of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is to provide aid for impoverished children. With the increased revenue from tobacco taxes SCHIP can now afford to include families with up to three times the federal poverty level as well as children from high-income families in New York and New Jersey. SCHIP will also be able to cover dental benefits and treatment of mental illnesses where it previously could not. In addition to providing these services for U.S. citizens, SCHIP is also expanded to cover immigrant children and immigrant pregnant women.[8]
President Barack Obama has received both criticism and support for signing it.
One of the biggest critiques of the passing of this bill comes from economists who believe that an increase in the federal cigarette tax will lead to decreased funding for state programs that rely on their own state cigarette taxes.[9] According to Nobel prize winning economist Gary Becker, who has studied the long-run price elasticity of cigarettes, the tax increase as a result of the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act increases the price of cigarettes 13.3% which ultimately means a 10.6% decrease in unit sales. The National Tax Foundation calculates these numbers to determine a predicted $1 billion loss for states. Another argument against this bill claims it to be regressive, holding that the tax increase unfairly targets the poor because according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) more than half of all smokers are low income.[10]
In counterpoint to this argument, lower-income communities already suffer from tobacco-related illnesses at a disproportionately higher rater than their higher-income counterparts. Proponents of this argument claim that tobacco-related diseases are already regressive, and that the tax increase is trying to decrease these rates of disease among lower income smokers by encouraging them to quit.[11]
Cigarette tax increases have also resulted in an increase in cigarette smuggling. In response, the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly passed a bill to strengthen enforcement against cigarette smugglers. Entitled the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act (The PACT Act), the measure targets organizations that sell tax-free cigarettes, improves enforcement toward cigarette smuggling between states, and bans the United States Postal Service from delivering most tobacco products. President Barack Obama signed the bill into law on March 31, 2010. Most of the new provisions went into effect on June 29, 2010.

The only way to prove to you that my wife's health care cost have tripled since Obama's health law/tax. Is to give you a link to here benefits before and after and I will not do that as that is no of your business. As you can clearly see I am about everything else I said. Thus I don't need to prove the one about my wife's health care cost. As anyone with health care can tell you that I am correct.
"I got a message for them," he added. "If you want to know want to know what’s outrageous, it’s their policies, and the effects of their policies on middle class America. That’s what’s outrageous."
Damn straight, Mr. Biden.
I'll stand with a guy like Joe Biden every day, and twice on Sunday. I got no use for wormy, sneaky, shady, liars like Romney. Romney is just the exact type of guy your mother told you not to hang around with.
Biden is like Yosemite Sam, full of misplaced anger.
Look out everyone in the front row, make sure you have a towel to wipe off his spit during his fake rage.
Sufferin Succotash, Joe! You're the race baiting schmuck!
Ryan...our next President...right? Obama 2012!!!!!!!
LOL One for One!!! and Romney is going to look like a fool when President Obama get's finished with him. Just remember, it's the President, not VP, and President Obama will roll all over Romeny in debates!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN/HOLDER....2012!!!!
Ha I had the kind of mom that told me not to hang out with liars and cheats, she said winners don't lie and liars don't win, and you know what Romney runs a lot but he never wins, guess who won, Obama won. Republicans did not want Romney 4 years ago, so what makes him so great now? The answer is nothing, nothing at all, he will get the "I will hold my nose and vote for Romney because I hate Obama" vote and that won't be enough to win a general election. My Mom was right.
Why would you stand by a guy like Joe Biden? He even makes Sarah Palin look smart. I can't believe his racist comment and how he uses minorities and thinks so little of them. How can you criticize Romney's lies, but the support Obama who lies at least as much as Romney?
Well said Grump. My mom said similar things, like: the more you tell lies, the harder it is to remember which lie you told when, so you keep lying to cover up the past lies.
As an independent, my head is spinning trying to keep up with what Romney and Ryan are for, against, or just similar with their ideas. If this was a carefully chosen V.P. pick, and truly vetted, why is their messaging so off right out of the gate. Not inspiring for this voter.
Moshu.....I doubt Obama will win the debates. The only reason he has done well this far is that he has avoid doing anything controversial and has not addressed any issues of importance. Romney will make him answer for his lack of leadership. He has been running for about 3 years and the debates will put him on the spot.
Obama won because McCain/Palin sucked, historic/value wasn't on the ballot.
Keep thinking that Obama will win in the debates against Romney Forrest. The democrats are asking that there be no questions about Simpson-Bowles Commission because Obama cannot defend the fact that he started the commission and then walked away from their report. What are the other questions that the democrats don't want asked. You won't see anything about fiscal questions at all in the vp debate because idiot Joe would get his rearend handed to him.
richard,
Ryan was on the Simpson Bowles committee and voted no to move the recommendation to the congres fro a floor vote.
i am sure the question will be ask of ryan and romney too.
Spot on, Forrest. Even if what the VP said was offensive - and I don't think it is - what Romney, other Republicans and their surrogates are spewing has long ago moved into the realm of totally offensive. I fear for our country if this is what a "leader" looks and sounds like.
You could stuff Biden's and Forest Grump's brains into a gnat and it would still walk backward. Hey Forest, the commies are not going to give you a new car, a new house and someone elses money to live on. If you haven't figured that out by now your brain must be stone dead.
I don't think using Simpson Bowles as an argument against Obama is a good strategy, Richard. The President said when he first set up the Simpson Bowles commission that there needed to be 14 votes for the report to go to Congress. Paul Ryan prevented that from happening. This is from Businessweek:
"The 18-member panel needed 14 votes to send a 10-year plan to trim the debt to Congress for a vote. As his party’s then- ranking member on the House Budget Committee, Ryan led a bloc of three House Republicans who denied the additional votes needed."
@tstucker Delusional much? Last time we talked about the "commies" coming to get us was during the cold war, but you were probably as old, delusional, and out of touch back then as well. Not sure who above, or in the article, was talking about giving people free cars and homes they can't afford. The last time credit was that easy to come by, G.W. was in office. Now tell me again why you are so mad? I thought tax breaks created jobs and made everyone happy and proseprous...no? Almost a decade later, and now you guys are worried about the country's deficit? Good thing you hateful republicans are so perceptive and "fiscally conservative."
Who let Joe out on the campaign trail again? Even Romney can keep his foot out of his mouth better than Joe Biden. If you see the comments on video, it's pretty obvious the GOP had nothing to do with it. Plain old mis-speak, typical of the VP.
Put America First needs to stop watching so much Limburger and Faux News. What a joke you are my friend. If Romney is going to make Obama defend his three years, then Romney will have to defend HIS past as well. Like healthcare for MA is ok, but for national, it is not. Like he was for choice, now he isn't. He said he would vote for the Ryan plan if presented to him as President, now he is backing off. This man has flipped on pretty much every subject. So yeah.. bring it on.
The Romney group whining and crying about how "low and dirty" Obama has been makes me laugh. They did the same to the primary opponents. Their so called outside groups are doing worse. Even Romney ran an ad with a total lie about welfare changes being considered. The man will say and do ANYTHING to become President and of course he feels he is entitled to be pres.... because he can buy his way into office.
Romney promises a lot but usually to never tells HOW he will accomplish anything..........."I have a plan".........but it's secret and I can only reveal it on Day 1 of my presidency when I will tell you all............[the plan is so secret the CIA has classified it but I can reveal it below]
My plan:
SURPRISE.......you fools believed me again didn't you...........well at least I tricked you into getting me and my billionalire friends into this white house and that black guy out of here. We will now trickle down upon you all
No Ms. Saul, Mr. Biden used exactly the right words. It's obvious that the GOP's plan is to destroy and enslave middle-class America by taking away their jobs, unions and homes so they'll work for whatever your multi-national corporations will give them. That's slavery. It's also obvious that it's Romney, Ryan and the GOP's plan to kill of the current poor and elderly (who you consider drains on our economy) by cutting Social Security and Medicare. Complain about the rhetoric all you want. The proof is in the record. Republicans are Anti-American. Their loyalty is to the their greed and the multi-national corporations that fill their pockets. Republicans need to be (and America needs them to be) drummed from every local and national elected office in the country. They are Un-American.
Ed......I'm a republican. And you are a fool to call me Anti-American. I've served this country in two of its wars. I'm more pro-American than you could dream to be. You owe me and many others an apology. You should be ashamed.
Witchking, Obama has been bailing out the banksters with your money and so will Romney. They're all puppets!
Bush = Obama = Romney.
Forrest, all I can say is you have a very, very skewed vision of what's occurred over the past 4 years in this Country. It was Obama's policies that has us in the mess where in right now and if you want to know where the @!$%# started it was back in the Clinton era. He stripped money from Social Security and Medicare to "balance" his budgets and he lowered the requirements on home loans so anyone could buy a home; he didn't care however, if they could afford to pay for it or not. Mr. Obama was sitting right next to him when this occurred (see video from the Black Caucus and you'll see your wonderful president cheering Billy Boy when he promised to lower the requirements). Those are facts my friend not fantasy but, your candidate just doesn't seem to want to live in the real world.
It IS outrageous that the same fools that got us into the mess now want they keys to the city. The most outrageous part about it is that there are voters that think this is a good idea.
Send R-money packing for the second, and last time. Thank you.
What's outrageous is that people still think voting matters.
Too funny PutAmericaFirst: "...that he (Obama) has avoid (sic) doing anything controversial..."
Health care wasn't controversial? The stimulus wasn't controversial? His accepting gay marriage wasn't controversial? Major banking regulation wasn't controversial? His immigration policy for children in the US wasn't controversial?
President Obama has more courage than Romney could even dream about. Bring on the debates. It's only going to get better.
GForce, I'll agree with you on a small part of your rant. It did start under Clinton, but who had control of the house and Senate? Who went even further and eliminated regulations for big biz and banks to create are more "free market"? That would be the Reps my friend. Try again. Clinton was wrong to promote the idea, but he alone nor the Dems did all the dirty work.
Is see a lot of very flawed logic going on here, most from the left.
I see a lot of self agrandized whit that doesn't work when put to the test.
Here's part of a left based email posing as smart and independent - with my comments. I won't reply to the email because I did once it caused a rift between him and the rest of the family.
This is from a Warren Buffet Interview with CBS
Sounds good, but it is actually a form of poison pill pollitics in the form of a temper tantrum - "if I can't get what I want I will break everything!"
What happens if this is practiced is those that are actually good, get thrown out with those that are bad. What gets put in office is people that have not clue of what anything really belongs to, how things work, or even how to change things.
Such a government would fall apart in days out of confusion and even deeper partisanship and unyielding.
I think Warren Buffet needs to stick to being an investor/investment advisor, who very subtilly manipulates the markets by shifting his money from one company to another while buying low and selling high.
What followed in the email was 10 points to enforce this concept nearly Ulall fatally flawed, but sound so good, so logical.
President Ulysses Grant who also served in public service as an army officer and a few others died in poverty. We need some politicians to serve a extended periods of time. Without a pension, those that are not rich, will not continue to serve. The issue with the Pensions is - perhaps a bit extravagant compared to ordinary citizens. We want people to serve, but we don't want being in congress to be the reason they become exceedingly wealthy off the taxpayers.
Yes, The reason this seperation occured is that social security was never supposed to be your retirement. Having a government pension IS their retirement just like the pension or 401K at your place of work. The difference is that all monies go into one fund and are more generous than the average person will ever hope to obtain. Cure this by reducing the amount of contribution to pensions and putting the social security amount into Social Security. Really this is window dressing to make jealous people feel better.
Members of Congress do contribute to their pensions, just like all other federal employees at a 12% of salary, and do not get a full pension unless they have served enough time. You wouldn't get an arguement from me about increasing the amount of Contribution though.
Agreed on the first part, but you certainly don't want garrenteed pay raises either.
Uniformed comment here. Their system is the same as for every federal employee. In the federal system pays a maximum of 50% of the premium AND a limited dollar amount. If the participant purchases a plan that 50% is less than dollar limit, the fed pays just 50%. If the participant takes a cadillac plan, the fed pays the maximum payout dollars and the percentage paid works out to something less than 50% of the premiums. In the private sector, your employer pays anywhere from 0% to 100% of your premiums. That doesn't matter if you get the lowest cost plan or the Cadillac Plan. The reality is that your plan might be less than what congress gets, or far better and fully paid for.
This IS the law. Writing another one saying the same thing, won't accomplish anything but add another page of regulation that is ignored.
Sorry, the number of flaws in this morally and legally are too numerous to discuss.
I have a real hard time reading blogs, articles, and posts that continually post half fact, outright bs from both sides. From what I see the left thows volumes more of this stuff out there than the right. The only reason they do this is that people are easily sucked in to simple flawed concepts.
When I see people say words like "blanks" are destroying the economy, all republicans are racist, "educate yourself", war on women, war on religion, etc
I see people reading only one side on a constant basis and have become "programmed" to believe things that aren't remotely true.
Now if you were to say something like the "regulations as written make government policy your loan officer instead of the bank". Then you got something.
This administration has a habit of saying exactly what they mean and then denying that's what they meant. "You didn't build that," and "They want to keep ya'll in chains" are only two examples. I think Americans have figured out that this administration has no real ideas for fixing the economy and is employing a strategy of tearing down, because that's all they can run on.
So disappointing to see a president of the US day after day just blaming, tearing down, and demeaning people. It's embarrassing for our country. No other president that I can recall ever behaved this way. EVER. George Bush took all the crap the media dished out everyday and I don't ever recall him one time being mean to anyone. We are better than this, America. We need a leader! Not someone who will blame and throw darts, but someone who will roll up his (or her) sleeves and demonstrate that he/she is ready to be EVERYONE's president.
Forrest Grump 2.0 - And yet he voted yes for the very policy that led to this...
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=106&session=1&vote=00354
I want leadership again.
That's why I am voting for Romney/Ryan.
These other two are just shameful and embarrassing to America.
The social experiment failed. Time to get to work America.
For all the people on the "right" over the years that have been criticized by the "left" do you not even HEAR your own vice-president? Do you not even HEAR the incredibly unintelligent. inappropriate, and incorrect information he says? He has dozens and dozens and dozens of stupid comments that if anybody on the right said even 1/10th of what Biden says you would never let it go. Do you know that along with his "unchained" comment yesterday he also told a group in Virginia "With your help we can win North Carolina"!! The man doesn't even know what STATE he is in? Do you realize Biden is only a "heartbeat" away from the presidency? Doesn't that scare you just A LITTLE?!?!?
I'll tell you what I worry about: Obama would throw his own grandmother under the bus if it gave him a better chance at reelection. I can see a scenario where Obama drops Biden from the ticket at the Democratic convention and adds Hillary Clinton. The "newness" reenergizes the Democrat party, they win in November, and puts Hillary into an excellent position to then run for president in 2016. Obama polls are showing great weakness so this would spark new excitement in the party.
I know Obama would do that in a heartbeat and there would go Joe Biden under the bus but, even if that was considered, my only hope is that the rumors that the Clinton's despise Obama are true and Hillary doesn't want to be linked to Obama especially as a vice-president.
But Joe Biden has to go. The possibility that, if something happened to Obama, he would become president is quite scary. But Romney-Ryan will fix that problem in November. I can't WAIT to finally have an intelligent president and vice-president in the White House when Romney-Ryan win in November.
"Y'all"....with all the racist barbs thrown at just about any breathing Republican or Conservative...it's amazing that Joe Biden gets an automatic pass. Do you remember what he said when his primary opponent, Barack Obama, won the nomination for the last election ??? Something about having an African American candidate who is "articulate and CLEAN"...Stupid Joe's word, not mine..."CLEAN".
If a Republican politician had said that, his or her career would have ended in a heartbeat.
But Stupid Joe gets a pass...naturally. "Y'all" just think he's a great VP...naturally. We should all be glad that Stupid Joe felt that Mr. Obama was "CLEAN" enough for Stupid Joe to serve in his administration.
For the record Biden could do more while he is sleeping then either of these dim witted bonehead repubs.
Joe is no dummy so dont under estimate him. He has guts he has courage and he doesnt hide from what he believes in. He will tell you to your face what he thinks and he wont back down from a fight. Can you say the same about R/R?
If Romney/ Ryan have nothing to hide then step up and show us whatcha got. If you believe in your plan for america then why are you afraid to tell us what it is? and why are we supposed to just take your word that it is better for us then Obamas vision? You can throw as much "attack crap" out there as you want but you better remember the american people are not a "cheap date". Once you get up there for those debates you will have to talk or fail..Joe is no dummy! He could eat both of you for lunch with out breaking a sweat. Say what you want about Biden ..you dont have to like him.. but he speaks his mind and doesnt back down from a fight. R/R are so wishy washy and vague and opaque its ridiculous. You will have to talk about the issues we want to no..you cant pick what you want to talk about...it doesnt work that way.
I would like to see some town hall debates where you answer qurstions from everyday people from both parties..not hide behind checkbooks of big money buddies like you been doing for months. You are abit cowardly R/R...if you really want the respect of the people you got to be straight up with us. And answer the tough questions honestly. If your vision is truthful and good then you will succeed.
elaine - If Joe has so much "guts and courage" then why did he take 5 draft deferments to avoid serving during Vietnam?
Why did Romney take a trip to France to avoid the war..oh yeah ..supposed Missionary work??..incredible timing. Lets talk about deferments?? What about Bush and Cheney??
I'm talking about answering questions and in your face discussions
Biden is a wimpy little worm. Obama did tell the truth about a couple things, our gas bill has gone up, our electricity bill has gone up, our grocery bills have gone up, he did tell the truth about those things happening. As a matter of fact the reason he knew it was going to happen is because he is the reason it happened and if he is re-elected all of these things are going to continue to increase a lot, because he is going to continue to finance more green energy things that will force us to pay more all at the expense of the poor. I am sure he is not worrying abour gasoline costing four dollars a gallon or that electricty is going to double because of his shutting down the coal mines nor his he or his family going to go have to add bread to his hamburger in order for everyone to have enough. Neither is he or his family going to not by medicine just so thye can eat. The democrats have done a great job of hipnotizing the poor into believing they are helping them while all along they are killing them slowly. Open your eyes people, I am all for protecting the environment and not to indiscriminalty kill animals, but not at the expense of the poor and the sick and the elderly.
elaine - Mitt Romney was reclassified as 1-A when his student deferments ran out and was eligible to be drafted based on his draft lottery number. The number selected for his birth date was #300 and was never called.
Both Bush's served (GWB in the Texas Air National Guard, and GHWB in the United States Naval Reserve).
Cheney had 5 deferments like Biden.
You didn't mention Clinton, but that sexual predator and draft dodger evaded serving even though he was issued an induction notice during Vietnam.
Mr Obama is only the 2nd POTUS not to have served in our military since Herbert Hoover.
If you knew anything about the Mormon church you would know that EVERY male is expected to do a two-year mission at some point, typically right after high school or college. This is a very serious part of their faith and Mormon males even defer going into the NFL, etc in order to do their mission. It is not a "supposed" mission. BTW, when exactly did Obama serve in the military, and when did he do his faith-based mission work? Why do you even bring this up?!
Okay liberals ...............STOP!!! Typical liberal replies when they don't have answers. This article and discussion is about Joe Biden. NOT Romney....... NOT Ryan........... NOT Republicans............. But Joe Biden.
So let's see if liberals can stay on topic at least for once. The question is whether it is appropriate for a vice-president to make a racist reference to a group. Joe Biden made a reference to racism and how his opponents will supposedly "put blacks back in chains". Is that an appropriate comment for a vice-president to say? If it was a Republican vice-president would it be appropriate to say?
Clearly it is inappropriate for ANY elected official to use that kind of discussion or make comments such as this so why is it okay to give Joe "the King of Gaffes" Biden a pass on this comment?
it's the old double standard: the left can lie and gaffe, but the right cannot. " I like to fire people" was totally out of context and is now on political ads. The Press will always side with the left. When was the last time you talked to a Republican in the Press?
keep on talking joe no everyone knows just how big a fool you are yet! they will when ryan gets done with you
Pro...
You noticed, eh ??? No topic about anything that is going on on this planet can be anything more than a launching pad to turn a discussion into a ramble about Romney's tax returns, Fox News, or the presidency of George Bush.
So if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it's Joe Biden. And yes...the man is an idiot with a undercurrent of a subtle bigotry.
Not that I'm not enjoying the rants, but I'm a bit confused on the issue. What exactly is 'racist' in Biden's remarks again? That he used the word 'chains'? And your little imaginations went right to how slaves were carried to the new world in 'chains'? Is that what happened? Or, using the same little imagination, you are 'outraged' that he was really calling the republican agenda racist, by using that racially charged word: 'chains'? Am I close?
Sorry to interrupt the hate fest...
Snakebone: You see right through them.
When you tell a group of black people that someone wants to put "ya'll back in chains" they know EXACTLY what you are telling them.
Oh, I see. Since the majority of the audience was white, I wonder what they made of the comment? Perhaps they thought to themselves: 'oh, that comment wasn't meant for us, it was meant for the blacks here'.
But thanks for the clarification: you believe that Biden was calling republicans a bunch of racists. It sounded to me as though he was saying republicans are engaged in class warfare against the middle class, but you guys are the victims here, so you can go with racist if you wish. I mean, there WERE blacks in the audience.
Have fun beating your chests and declaring yourselves free of racial bias! Just a note: this one is not a mind-changer. If this pisses you off, you were already pissed off. And if this makes you think republican policies are racist, you already thought republican policies are racist.
you tell them joe..the cat is out of the box
Elvis,
Live by a metaphor, die by the same metaphor.
Language is important and so are analogies, metaphors and similes
Keep drinking the Kool Aid.
Why don't we run it up the flagpole and see if the rats desert the sinking ship. You know, a leopard doesn't change his stripes mid-stream.
Your right Q22
so you better be really frightened of R/R.
elaine...
More frightened than of a lousy president with a nitwit for a veep ???
News...
I'm a bit surprised that George Bush hasn't been blamed for not turning over more of Mitt Romney's tax returns.
Maybe Mitt already has the former prez "y'all back n chains" and he can't deliver the forms until he's released.
Too bad you don't have a memory.
That steaming pile of Mitt was saying Y'all and eating grits in Mississippi not that long ago.
News98...Ol' klan-man Rush been slippin' you some of his oxycontin? Thank you for demonstrating the intelligence and maturity so common among the aryan-teabaggers.
Vice President Joe Biden sought Tuesday evening to clarify language he used earlier in the day, saying his charge that the Republican ticket's banking policies would "put y'all back in chains" was merely a reference to the GOP's own rhetoric about the "unshackling" of economic forces. Really?
I guess there is no hope for the two scumbag twins, Obama and Biden, to take their campaign out of the gutter and start talking about the issues.
Biden's always been a sorry SOB. America gets the Government they deserve.
Where is Romney's tax returns?
Yes Dal where are Romnut's tax returns?
Mitt Wit the Twit
His campaign’s latest attempt to explain how and when Romney left Bain Capital — he’s supposed to have “retired retroactively” at some unspecified date —
has became an instant punch line for JOKES!
The only reason anyone cares when Romney left Bain Capital, the private equity firm he founded and ran, is because Romney made a totally unreasonable claim: When Democrats pointed to the outsourcing and job cuts at companies Bain owned or controlled, Romney denied any responsibility since these unfortunate developments took place after he left to run the Winter Olympics in 1999.
This was an absurd position to take. Romney has boasted of his prowess at
creating jobs by pointing to successful companies in which Bain invested, such
as Staples,This growth took place after 1999. Romney was trying to take
credit for post-departure successes but not for failures.
He then tried to insist on another ridiculous proposition, which is that he
left Bain suddenly and completely in 1999. This cannot possibly be true.
Romney was Bain Capital — chairman, chief executive and sole
stockholder. There is no way he could have disentangled himself from the firm so abruptly.
Indeed, he did not. As late as 2002, Bain’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission list Romney as chairman, chief executive and sole stockholder. SO Mitt Wit the Twit is LYING
If you look at Romney’s signature on those documents and listen to what he’s been saying on the campaign trail, you have to conclude that either he lied to
the SEC or he’s lying to voters now.
IF HE LIED TO THE SEC HE HAS COMMITTED A FELONY!
THERE MUST BE AN IMMEDIATE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MAN!
Do not forget the 44 million Mittens charged us for his failure

Where are Obama's college transcripts? Romney released 2 years of tax returns. He provided 23 years to McCain when he was being vetted as McCain's running mate.
Obama, on the other hand, had his college transcripts sealed. He's the only President, or candidate to have done that. What's he hiding? Never mind. I think we know. He is one slimy A$$hole. America gets the Government they deserve.
Ron
Who cares about college transcripts you lie when you said Obama is the only President not to release his tax returns BUSH NEVER RELEASED HIS
Romney may have committed Felonies if he lied to the SEC THAT"S A FELONY. IF HE HAS OFF SHORE BANK ACCOUNTS WHICH HE DOES AND IS GUILTY OF TAX EVASION THAT'S A FELONY the same thing A Capone went to Prison for
WHAT'S MIT THE TWIT HIDING?
Ron, Obama has released several years of tax returns. Obama's financial records, college records, and everything else republicans want is getting old and lame.
Apples to oranges, and way off target. By the way, Obama is the only president to have constant barrages of request for that. If Obama's college transcripts need to be released for republicans, then the same for Romney. I don't recall any republicans stating that Romney's college transcripts are sealed and he's not releasing them for scrutiny. That is obviously what the republicans want, right???
The main reason a lot of people are still asking about the taxes is the reason Romney gives for not releasing them. Scrutiny. If he can't stand the scrutiny of his taxes, how is he going to stand the scrutiny of the presidency.
I have a question.
If Ryan is so confident that he will be the next Vice President of the United States, why is he still running for his congressional seat?
Shouldn't he back out of that race? Is he just hedging his Romney bet?
Curious minds want to know!
Bunch of Biden-isms, LOL
Seems like "where are ROmney's tax returns" is the only response you get when you ask a legitimate question. It is the democrats way of admitting......"I don't have a clue"
Romney and Ryan...2012...will put America back on track.
Just as I thought... the righties cannot answer my question. Figures.
most Blacks think republicans are really the KKK.
Ron, President Obama did not "have his college transcripts sealed". That is a non-factual Republican talking point. His college transcripts are sealed as are yours and Mitt Romney's because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Rights Act of 1965. You should probably fact check things before you perpetuate lies.
exactly what IRS laws has Romney broken?
Thanks Heartlight, but you know republicans don't fact check. Just look at Loser up there. He doesn't even need to know any facts about the guy he's voting for, he can see all he needs to know in the picture books the republicans pass out to their die-hard fanatics like Loser. He can't read, but he knows he won't vote for a black man.
HolyHangrenade
I have a question.
If Ryan is so confident that he will be the next Vice President of the United States, why is he still running for his congressional seat?
Shouldn't he back out of that race? Is he just hedging his Romney bet?
The reason he is still running for his congressional seat is because he decided to run for the post before Romney asked him to be his Vice President. That being said, if elected to both posts, he will more than likely resign his seat in Congress. He isn't hedging his Romney bet. He was put on the ballot and can't be taken off now. Does that answer your question?
Hey, don't confuse these idiots with facts....
I used to live in Wisconsin. We had a candidate who died before the election and his name could not be removed or replaced on the ballot because of the timing. He was elected anyhow because the community was so against his opponent. I voted for the dead guy, too.
Obama released everything he was asked to release so lets just get that straight right now. You repub tbaggers just love beating that old dead horse. Who gives a crap about college records anyway? Irrelavant smoke screen to dodge the real issues. There are more skeletons is Bush/Cheneys closets then Obama could ever do and you had no probelm with them. You didnt drag Georgy boy through the mud about his past...even though we all knew he was a drunk and a playboy well into his 30's..and thats just Bush. Bush started alot of the crap we are stuck cleaning up and repairing to this day. And you got the guts to blame Obama for this mess we are in??? You guys got some nerve judging anyone.
Holy - Did John Keery and John Edwards give up their seats when they ran in 2004? I'm sure you were on this site questioning their confidents in winning?
I'm sniggering all the way to the bank on this one.
We know EXACTLY what Biden meant by "put you all back in chains!
Bye Bye OBummer 2012
Jello heads!
Romney sucks
Obama and Romney are two sides of the same spending your cares away coin.
Ron Paul 2012
Obama swallows...
Hey Alan, what do you think of Gary Johnson?
Alan, can't say I disagree with that. I find myself during another presidential election voting against someone rather than for someone. I don't necessarily back Romney but, we have to give Obama his walking papers come November; he's proved he's absolutely incapable of doing the job we need done.

You realize Dal, that Romney's comments (except the first one you noted, and it could also be mentioned that Obama did roughly the same thing in 08) are completely harmless.
On the other hand, Obama's "you didn't build that!" and Biden's "put you back in chains" are completely different than Mitt's. Obama's gave a view into his soul, and Joe's was gutter politics at its democrat best.
Funny how little of what Obama actually said was heard by old liar Romney
After the most recent news on GM's stock value being half of what we paid for it, Obama's next claim will be.."I didn't build that!! It's GW's fault!"
Nope Republicans just bought the banks and the CEO bonuses. Damn socialists
dal, what the RWNJ's won't admit to: you are posting the complete quotes from Mittens, while they are only using words taken out of context!
Don't forget that Biden once said " You can't go into a 7-11 without seeing a bunch of Indians" while campaining for Obama. He also said Obama shouldn't be running for a President that is looking for on the job training, while in a televised debate.
Biden might be the most racist person in national politics.
Should be required reading!
Nothing like the Obama campaign trying to play the race card whenever possible. Biden is obviously a racist, because perpetuating it is what keeps Democrats and civil rights leaders in power. It is amazing that somehow the Democrats have become the party of civil rights, self anointed. Maybe because their liberal supporters so freely ignore history. But there is no mistake that a long history of racism and racial divide exists in the Democratic Party.
Democratic President Woodrow Wilson was the one that brought segregation into the federal government. After the Civil War it was the Democrats that initiated Jim Crow laws designed to keep the black man down. The KKK was founded as the terrorist wing of the Democratic Party. Bull Conor who turned fire hoses on the civil rights marchers in Birmingham Alabama was a Democrat. Most telling is the fact that in September 2011 blacks filed a class action lawsuit against Obama and the Democratic Party for their history of racism.
http://www.federalobserver.com/2011/09/14/blacks-file-class-action-racial-discrimination-suit-against-obama-democrats/
When you have the Democratic Party in control of the House for 46 of the last 60 years, and Democrats in control of the Senate for 40 of the past 60 years, is there any question why racism is alive and well in America? The current unemployment rate among blacks is 14.4%.
Is PETA happy about the President eating dog or even joking about it?
What about Biden not knowing what state he was in?
As soon as you start being prefect and not making mistakes, let us know.
They may be "harmless" comments, but they give the listener a view into the man's head. What I glean from them is that he is an out-of-touch elitist, so much so that he doesn't realize that his comments are easily construed as being in bad taste.
"There were a couple of times I wondered whether I was going to get a pink slip" –Mitt Romney, attempting to identify with the problems of average folk (January 2012)
This is an obvious, and easily provable lie. R-money has had one job in his entire life. Bain Capital, of which he is CEO, and sole shareholder. How does the CEO of a company worry about getting fired? He is a LIAR right there.
dal, Obama did exactly the same thing when he first introduced Joe Biden as his running mate. It was just as funny and just as unimportant. Flubs happen all the time in public speaking.
I will say about all Joe Biden though.
I never heard a parent tell their kid that they should grow up to be vice-president like he said his parents did. Seems to me it garners low expectations from the beginning.
News98: Are you going to sign up when Mittwit declares war on the Soviet Union?
The GOP doesn't seem to have any ideas beyond what was tried in the past. After the 2008 economic meltdown, that's not good enough for me. Things are a lot different than when Ronald Reagan was president.
Darwin said it best: It is not the strongest or smartest species that survive, it is those that can adapt to change.
Yeah, and occasionally evolution takes a weird turn, much like neanderthals, biden, obama, etc.
And Obama's ideas are?????? The ideas that we tried in the past worked in the past. Look up the facts. Job growth, record revenues to the government, low unemployment.....
Yes, they did. Ronald Reagan's policies spurred growth primarily because the economy benefited from lower taxes on the wealthy and the easing of overly restrictive regulations. Today, taxes on the wealthy are among the lowest in history and regulations have fallen under the control of the regulated. In short, we live in a completely different world.
The economic landscape is constantly changing and requires different strategies at different times. I normally like the idea of low taxes and low government spending but not in this economic environment. The great depression was caused by cutting government spending before the private sector had a chance to recover.
My point is that where economic strategy is concerned, adherence to an "ideology" is guaranteed to eventually fail.
PutAmericaFirst: And Obama's ideas are?????? The ideas that we tried in the past worked in the past. Look up the facts. Job growth, record revenues to the government, low unemployment.....
I guess you forgot about 2008-2009. We had a little blip of a recession.
Where the hell do these people live?
Starder up
The Obama recover is the slowest in history. Many of his policies are actually harsher than those of the great depression.
Business loans weren't the failure, home mortgages were. But business is now subject to 1100 pages of regulations that they must pass to qualify for a loan. In the last 2 weeks I have talked to 2 doctors and an dentist. Combined they know dozens of small businesses that applied for loans and were denied loans. Before Frank-Dodd, they would have received these loans. What these loans mean are their businesses will remain open or their businesses would expand.
This is from the trenches, not the news media which is 79% registered democrats.
Don
yes, among the lowest
You were fine until this statement.
Regulations under Carter grew to 72,000 pages. Reagan shrunk that to 56,000. In january 2009, the number of pages of regulations was over 157,000 (per heritage.org - and that is about the midpoint on of other sources on the number of pages). By April of 2010, Democrats had added over 16,000 pages of new regulations.
Although the Republicans taking control of the house have put a stop to a lot of the new regulations created in response to new legislation, the EPA, the Justice department and Obama by route of executive orders continue to add to the pages at a phenomenal Rate. Just with the ACA, all of the regulations will not have been written until next year, and even then they regulations are going to continue to grow without and act of Congress.
Startup - here's Romney work history. Nice try but some of us like to look things up before believing the bs people from the left post.
Business career
Management consulting
Romney was recruited by several firms and chose to remain in Massachusetts to work for Boston Consulting Group (BCG), reasoning that working as a management consultant to a variety of companies would better prepare him for a future position as a chief executive.[57][61][nb 7] He was part of a 1970s wave of top graduates who chose to go into consulting rather than join a major company directly.[63] His legal and business education proved useful in his job[57] while he applied BCG principles such as the growth-share matrix.[64] He was viewed as having a bright future there.[57][65]
In 1977, he was hired away by Bain & Company, a management consulting firm in Boston that had been formed a few years earlier by Bill Bain and other former BCG employees.[57][64][66] Bain would later say of the thirty-year-old Romney, "He had the appearance of confidence of a guy who was maybe ten years older."[67] With Bain & Company, Romney learned what writers and business analysts have dubbed the "Bain way",[57][66][68] which consisted of immersing the firm in each client's business[57][67] and not just issuing recommendations, but staying with the company until changes were put into place.[64][66][69] Romney became a vice-president of the firm in 1978[15] and worked with clients such as the Monsanto Company, Outboard Marine Corporation, Burlington Industries, and Corning Incorporated.[61] Within a few years, he was one of Bain & Company's best consultants and was sought after by clients over more senior partners.[57][7
Reagan did not 'spur growth' with his tax and regulations policies. He spurred economic activity by loosening credit - which was the only option to 'save' the middle class after he had cut them off at the knees. We can see now how great an idea that was. The economic numbers are startlingly clear on this point: we became a debtor nation under Reagans Milton Friedman policies. I suppose in a way, one could say that if I suddenly get the credit to buy a new car, and I do so, that my household has experienced 'growth', but in my opinion, that growth is not 'real'.
Yes, the GDP grew under Reagan, but at a cost that most republicans today would argue is too great: In the period 1983-1986, he added more to the Federal Debt (in terms of percentages) than any president before or since.
In fact 94% of our national debt belongs to just three people.
Reagan
Bush
bush/cheney
You must not be a math whiz, you should leave the ciphering to someone else Jethro.
The National Debt has increased from $10.6 Trillion to $15.9 Trillion since Obama took office. An increase of $5.3 Trillion. 33% of the National Debt belongs to Obama.
Joe must go. He's in his last days. A White House clown for sure. Even the Obama supporters, on NBC, have withheld comments due to his embarrassing remarks.
The only chains will be on us by Romney in taxes and Medicare cuts.
Obama 2012!!!!
You wouldn't need Medicare if you got off your couch to get a job and support yourself.
kkkwilson The only thing embarrassing is that we come from a country where more than 5 people think guys like Willard and Paul are "leaders." Leaders don't hide. Where are Willard's tax returns? Where does his blind trust invest his money? Where did all of those jobs Americans held in companies he bought go? Why does he think taxes should be lower when he had no problem pocketing tax $ when companies he bought went bankrupt? Why does he carefully control the selection of supporters allowed at his campaign events? Ahhhh yes, he's scared and prefers hiding to leading.
Growing up with the rich kids like Mitt that sport at country clubs and pay $100k+ for horses they can dress up like the English to ride dressage on, is exactly why I won't be voting for him. Did John Wayne ride dressage? Hell no...because he's American! Enough with you fake patriots rallying behind this mormon puppet. Baa baa...your shepherds at fox are herding you back into single file lines again....baa baa
Thank you sleuth23.
KC Jeff - tell your mother to get off her couch and get a job and support herself.
KC
Dont lower yourself to Mitts level by starting to talk stupid....wait ..to late.
This is becoming the dirtiest, meanest, and slimiest campaign in my life time (71+ yrs). I remember the Johnson "Daisy Ad", Bush 1's "willie Horton Ad", the Kerry or Gore "bird dragging Ad" and now "Romney killing a cancer patient". It is going to get much more heated and nasty, and I believe that is what the President wants, because he can not run on his record of failures. Obama can not point to the unemployment, the job market, gas prices, national debt, and the lack of any leadership.
It is a shame that there will be over 2 billion dollars spent to try and sway maybe 5 or 6 % of the voters, since most people have already made up their minds. All of this for a government that can't or won't change a damn thing. I still have not heard, except for Ryan, anyone mention revising the tax codes, cutting government programs, auditing the money being spent by government agencies. I have not heard anyone, either party, address the waste and fraud in the GSA, military, and IRS. What s sorry bunch of political pundits writing and reporting on this election.
sferet: I believe the democrats, and Obama, stated and spoken often of just the issues you stated last summer during the debt ceiling debacle. I remember a deal that was discussed in the media and on the congressional floors, and outside the capital. I remember that it would reduce the deficit by 4 Trillion dollars and would cut some programs, revise entitlements, reduce waste and some spending in defense, and have some revenue to offset the cuts, meaning paying for things.
Do you remember last summer and the debt ceiling debacle??? Who actually walked away from the deal at the eleventh hour??? Paul Ryan, and the house republicans, leaving Speaker John Boehner with egg on his face.
It must be nice already being a medicare beneficiary and therefore exempt from the new medicare rules Romney wants to shove on the younger generation. The plan wouldn't take effect for 10 years and people currently on Medicare would be exempt. Know why that's in there? Sure you do. HE KNOWS THAT WINNING SENIOR CITIZEN VOTES IS THE ONLY CHANCE HE HAS OF WINNING!
JackieK - I don't believe you are really an independent and my thinking is that you are a liberal, which is o.k. your choice.
Yes, I remember last summer and debt ceiling debacle, but you might want to do some research. It was Obama that walked away from the deal because he figured he could get a better deal from the 6 Senators that was trying to come up with a deal. When that fell through he went back to Boehner and Boehner told him it was to late. It was Obama who blew the deal. Do some research and get back to me.
Why is it radical conservatives think they get to define others as they see fit, no matter how those others may define themselves?? I'm soooo tired of that pathetic line "I don't believe you're an independent" they haul out whenever anyone whose NOT SOMEWHERE TO THE RIGHT OF HITLER disagrees with their viewpoint (note sfcret above). Anyone not in lock step with their particular agenda couldn't possibly be anything but a "leftie pinko librul." They just can't wrap their tiny, conservative pea brains around the idea that thinking people might possibly make up their own minds based on facts and evidence, NOT on a party ideology as they do. Well GUESS WHAT?!!! Thinking independently is, by definition, INDEPENDENT, no matter whether YOU believe it or not! And just to give you an example of how ridiculous that particular conservative propensity is, let's pretend that I don't believe conservatives are really human! I believe they're some form of mutated jellyfish (hence the oft noted lack of spinal fortitude). So from now on when someone defines him/herself as a "conservative" I'm going to refer to them as "jellyfish (or Mittens ... six of one...).
Sfcret:
In answer to your rant, and yes I call it a rant. Have you not been paying attention over the past three years? The first directive out of Sen. McConnell's mouth was we will make him (Obama) a one term president. How is a man to lead when there is a rebellion from the do nothing Congress? The President tried to compromise but that didn't work because then he would of had an accomplishment in your eyes and that was not the intended plan by the republicans. So if blame needs to be laid at anyones feet let it rest with the republican elected officials that have worked so hard to make sure this president does not succeed. My friend all these republicans have only been concerned about one thing -- a grasp for power. They not only sabbotaged this presifdent but every American in this country. I for one will not forget the treasoneous actions taken by the republican do nothings that ran on a platform of JOBS, JOBS, JOBS and have only been concerned with abortion and destroying this President and our country.
Sfcret you win the award for the best post of the day, congratulations!!
I like fresh strawberries chilled, with a little pure cream, but not too often. I also like chilled cinamon apple slices with cream, also not too often. Joe Biden has an insatiable craving for shoe leather and if his legs aren't tied down he can't resist sticking his foot in his mouth.
Biden is toast. Obama will dump him within a week if he can.
Yes, Biden will develop some unfortunate ailment and have to retire in the next couple of weeks, probably traded in for Nancy Pelosi.
Romney and Ryan are trying to create a fortune 500 hundred from us.from SS and medicare madicaid ..yes that would chain us back up
I really am sad Romney wants to continue the welfare for the rich that has not been working for 10 years
Uh-huh....and Obama care will turn us into Greece. Again a program projection WAY off course and here you are wanting more and more waste and less and less efficiency. Besides NASA which Obama gutted name for me one thing THEY do that is right, efficient, and within budget????
The Obama drones buzzzzz with no answer.
The problems Greece has are caused by not paying taxes and austerity.
These are both planks in the republicon party platform.
You are the problem.
Don't get it twisted. Blacks, Mexicans, Jews or whatever it's upset about this. It's the Republican party (right-winger) that's trying to stir up an issue. It's just that MSNBC tends to make bigger news of what FOX News are running with.
Darrell
The only party that looks at color is the democrats. And god help any african American who decides he or she agrees with libertarians or conservatives.
I would say this
African Americans. Obama's polices hurt your family and your brothers. Your unemployment has increased from 14.9% to 17.3% under Obama policies. It's not that his policies are racist, they are simply WRONG.
You don't have jobs, because small business cannot get loans. The Bank can't give a business a loan unless they can get through the 1100 pages of loan qualifications as passed under Dodd-Frank. Put simple the bank no longer makes a decision on your loan - Obama and the Democrats have through 1100 pages of regulations.
The only sectors of the economy with higher unemployment than African Americans is African American teenagers, design professionals (31%) and construction also 31%.
There aren't going to be enough jobs until the design professional unemployment drops and that cannot happen until people who have businesses or want to start a business see improved economic numbers AND can get loans.
Vote for somebody other than a Democrat. The only thing they have to offer you is a handout. Nobody prospers on handouts! Then then are slave to conforming to government to get a check they can barely scrape by on!
Aww, poor Joe was taken out of context? Folks, there aren't enough contexts in the universe to square everything this guy's said over the last three years.
Interestingly, look at the last several articles for an idea of which campaign is taking things more seriously. I see two attack ads from Romney about Medicare, one attack ad from Romney on another relevant issue, and one attack from Obama on . . . . Romney's dog.
Well the poor guys dog was tied to the roof of Romney's car.
Seamus, "Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruuuuufffffff!" (Doggie translation: Don't roof rack me, bro! Oh sh!t. Literally.)
Bain/Pain 2012
Seamus got Mitt rolled! Biden is absolutely right! Obama/Biden 2012!!
Yes let's regulate the banking system. All that regulation caught Bernie Madoff, and the Banksters at Gold in Sacks well before they could seriously rip anyone off, so let's have even more.
You do realize that the recent banking fiascoes were a direct result of DE-regulation, right?
yesssss......and the carbon dioxide escaping from your mouth and cow flatulence is warming the earth.
Look up the community reinvestment act that got stronger under the leadership of Reed and Pelosi as well as touted by Bush and Clinton. Both sides. Not deregulation. Again it is the finger of gov. all over it, yet they----the dems are as white as the driven snow. Uh-huh....like cow flatulence.
Ryan will roll Bidden in a debate. Not even fair really. Tyson vs. a sock puppet.
Can't wait!
Look no one said old Joe does not make gaffes but hell the guys shoes have more political experience than Ryan. Ryan is way far out of Joe's league.
Obama doesn't have the qualifications to be President either. At least Ryan finished a full term....
Hate to break it to you KC Jeff but Obama has 3 years of hard earned experience as POTUS. Why are you right wingers so unenlightened? Romney is a World joke and Obama is highly respected. Maybe the rest of the world knows a little more then you tea baggers. You are all clumped in the geographic middle of the USA and think the world revolves around you. Hate to break this to you but the middle of the USA sucks.
Why isn't there a down check for "comment too stupid"?
Can anyone see the 'Shark Week' ad to the right? Is that necessary?
I love it! OBAMA AND BIDEN ARE SHARKS!!!! The entire US Government IS! WAKE UP!
yes i see it.its to remind the american people we are being laughed at and eaten by politicians that run this country while repubs and demo's line their pockets with the last of the money we might have in our own pockets.we are screwed.and the kids born on this day are even more screwed by the system we have except if the family they are born into has money.
I can't believe that Biden said that. Does he really think that little of minority individuals? What a schmuck. I know democrats always think that they know what is best for minority voters, but Biden takes that to the next level. Apparently they can't function in life without a government official telling them what to do.
Obama's voter's can't function without their leader
Yeah, Romney just tells the Brits he can identify more with the white man.
Dal....Since when did you start criticizing honesty? Don't you want that from a president? That is no different than Obama saying that he can identify with a black man.
I don't like Biden, but why would chains relate to rascism? The race card is so played out, its unreal.
It relates to racism in the fact that he thinks blacks can't fend for themselves. Without government support, they would all be in chains.
Wow, talk about pathetic! How can you type something so ridiculous and expect anyone to take you seriously? All I can figure is you must think minorities are too foolish to see through your false outrage to the offal lying beneath. Yet let any Faux talking head REALLY use racist laden innuendos and you put on a straight face and deny, deny, deny. THAT is why neocons have NO CREDIBILITY with thinking Americans.
He was before a predominately black audience. Funny, it was the dems that were for slavery. The beginning of the republican party was on freedom for the slaves with the man hanging on the wall of Obama who even misreads his intentions; preserve the union.
I watch republican presidential candidates regularly go to state fairs, farm lands, factories and universities but I don't see them regularly going into minority communities except a token appearance once every four years. Minorities are Americans too, but there seems to be a hands off attitude.
Biden is not a goofball. He said exactly what he meant to say. It's his job to say the things no one else can get away with, so the campaign can walk it back once it's already out there. It's a brilliant strategy.
And I wholeheartedly agree with him!
Way to go Biden! The words were self-explanatory. The Taliban Republicans are coming on strong right about now and using their own great expressions to further your own remarks is a wonderful way to deal with these folks.
I have read a ton of letters to the editor from about 6 different papers and loads of remarks on pages such as these and I have to laugh at the Tea Party folks who come on and complain about “liberal hatred” and “liberal bias” when they have such blindness to their own crude language and poorly defined goals toward limiting women’s health care issues, or the screaming against Obamacare, or any other agenda they are choosing to foist upon us now.
Obama Cares is going to be better implemented next year, and I have to say the calmness exhibited by this administration given the attacks and lies of the Republican Party has actually been a refreshing part of these past four years. The louder and more obnoxious the GOP Tea Party becomes the more I like it!
Are you a closet tea partier?
The Tea Party was always loud and killing people. Like in Arizona
So you think that minorities can't handle getting mortgage on their own. They need the government to help them break the bondage because they are too incompetent? I would be willing to take you on in a debate about any of the issues you offered, but I will probably be met with the usual silence I get from democrats when I ask them to use logic, reasoning and facts.
Obama and Biden care SO much, they want to know EVERYTHING you do, why and how, so they can help you keep 'them chains on......SHEEP
dal who did the tea party kill in Arizona. Loughner was a democrat. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed by the Obama Administrations failed Fast and Furious program. So I guess President Obama and AG Holder killed him and all those Mexicans because it was their program. And executive privilege is used to cover up.
She didn't even mention Biden's gaffe, if you could even call it that. If Biden had been addressing the NAACP, that would have been a different story. Just because about half of the crowd was black, you pick up the "african slaves" connotation and run with it. That is a pretty severe stretch. Since all you can fault him for are misinterpreted statements and regurgitated right wing hard line stances like "Obama wants us all on welfare" (which is what your comment was alluding to and is patently ridiculous) then I am forced to come to the conclusion that you really don't have anything worth saying.
Like I commented above, the neocons think minorities are too foolish to see through their fake outrage. They just don't get that THEY are the ones using less than stellar reasoning power every time they think in cliches. They will rabidly take the single word "chains" and spin it into something racist, yet if one of their talking heads uses blatantly racist ennuendo, they become too obtuse to get the connections. Just more of the right's outrageous hypocrisy in action.
Obama has a negative 19% margin in his favorable/unfavorable poll results for a reason, folks.
and you got your facts from where???
Obama has a steady 47-50 favorable ...
where did you get your facts? Hannity?
Obama is a tyrant. All tyrants MUST GO!

Paul Ryan:
- Ayn Rand inspired his thought processes.
- Ayn Rand was an atheist!
- Ayn Rand was a hedonist!
What the heck is Paul Ryan?
Holy......One can get inspired by something without being indoctrinated. Can't an atheist believe in "love thy neighbor?" even though that is biblical?
Put.... I would think an atheist could believe that. But you didn't answer my question. Paul Ryan is supposed to be a devout Catholic. Why is he inspired by an atheist, hedonistic, fiction writer?
Holy......Why can't a catholic be inspired by portions of a book? Rand makes some good points. It proves that Ryan is open minded enough to take good ideas from anyone. Too bad more of us we not like him.
So then why does the Right insist on defining Obama by classes he took as a college student? Oh, that's right ... the old "do as I say and not as I do" double standard ... sucks when someone calls you on it, huh!?
I don't recall putamericafirst ever mentioning the classes Obama took. Sucks when somebody calls you out on it, doesn't it spiritdunce?
Spiritdance, we don't know anything about Obama's classes that would allow anyone to define him. The records have been sealed. We even saw Bush's records.
Ayn Rand was also a welfare queen.
What has Ayn Ryan done in the last 13 years besides rename a Post Office and reduce taxes on his arrows?
you're already in chains people, Biden and Obama have implemented the greatest domestic spying programs of all time, and you probably don't even know it (that's the way they like it)....don't think they're building your dossier? Betcha got a smart meter......no? Betcha your state and local lawdogs got drones......no? Use the internet or cell phone much?.......billions of your money used to fund it all. Sheep....Obama even makes speeches about their "awesome" technology in place to "keep you safe and free"......make Romney and Ryan do something about it, cause Obama and Biden will just keep on keepin' on. YOU ARE NOT FREE!
Oh my God! You have Social Paranoid Personality Disorder.
Helicopters on your lawn? Becha have survival gear and a ton of guns too?
Heck....There is about as much truth in that as their is in most of Obama's campaign ads.
He did sign the NDAA (with strong republican support no nobody can play innocent) amid a media blackout. That gave the government the right to detain US citizens indefinitely without trial for something as ambiguous as "suspected of terrorism." Better stop talking so much Todd. You might be seen as a threat by the gestapo.
Biden should have just come out in black face.
Seriously, why do white, liberal politicians feel the need to talk "black" when speaking in front of black people? And why is it that no one (especially black people) ever calls them out for it?
What Biden said, and how he said it, was an insult to people of color. All but the truly stupid and the simple minded know it. He was pandering.
Wow! A politician pandered to voters during a campaign? Outrageous. Thank goodness the Republican National Committee would never stoop to that tactic.
Nothing like the Obama campaign trying to play the race card whenever possible. Biden is obviously a racist, because perpetuating it is what keeps Democrats and civil rights leaders in power. Yeah, nice try. Rick Santorumsaid the same exact thing one year ago, where was the outrage then? Your post tells me one thing, how a party can change, evolve and become enlightened while the other party is going in exactly the opposite direction. The Republicans are nothing but a bunch of bigoted angry rich white dudes who view minorities as "the problem". You don't mention that it was a Democratic president the pushed for the civil rights bill. Why don't you go over that history of the past and see all that Democrats have done without destroying the economy that republicans have done on many occasions especially for the last 20 years. Republicans are incapable of governing and do nothing but whining.
OBAMA 2012 / DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS 2012
I don't know what, or who, brought up Obama's Tax returns. I didn't, I brought up his college transcripts. I would like to know how he got into Occidental College and what kind of grades he made. It goes to integrity and honesty.
You see. I would like to know if Obama committed a felony by registering as a foreign exchange student. Witchking spouted some babbling bull$hit about Romney committing a felony. There is no evidence of that. Obama sealed his college records. He's hiding something.
You EVER heard of FERPA laws, Ron? Your President did not "seal" his records. They are sealed by law, so are Romneys.
Jaysus, would you "teabaggers" get a freaking clue? Maybe if some of you could get INTO college, you would know this stuff.
It would certainly SEEM that he's hiding something, wouldn't it? Especially since that's what Liberals say about Romney.
But it's just another example of their hypocrisy. They want Romney's birth certificate to prove he wasn't born in Mexico, but mention Obama's birth certificate, and you're ridiculed off the stage. They slam Romney for having offshore accounts, but who mentions the offshore accounts of Pelosi, Wasserman-Shutlz, and Carney? They ridicule Romney's religion, but they'll crucify you if you dare to delve into Obama's. One thing after another. Hypocrisy after hypocrisy.
Hello, Papillon.
Ron, get over it. How many people have their college transcripts so called sealed. It's called the privacy act, your grades are protected, along with politicians. You have to give permission to release them, just like taxes. I can't just look up your tax returns now can I. It's called releasing them. I suppose the counter to your argument would be "why did Romney have his tax records sealed??? Enough already. Would you like to stay on topic.
Every president seals all records.
newdayDAWNING...RETURNED, Would this be the law you are referring to.
Generally, schools must have written permission from the parent or eligible student in order to release any information from a student's education record. However, FERPA allows schools to disclose those records, without consent, to the following parties or under the following conditions (34 CFR § 99.31):
Schools may disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance. However, schools must tell parents and eligible students about directory information and allow parents and eligible students a reasonable amount of time to request that the school not disclose directory information about them. Schools must notify parents and eligible students annually of their rights under FERPA. The actual means of notification (special letter, inclusion in a PTA bulletin, student handbook, or newspaper article) is left to the discretion of each school.
As a matter of fact, I have heard of it, but thanks for so kindly pointing it out.
I find this quite interesting" Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student"
Of course the slipper left wing pukes are only interested in Romney's Tax Returns, not Obama's crimes.
Cubs: Seriously, that's your argument!!! We have listened for over 3 years regarding Obama's birth certificate. Can't take the heat and criticism over your candidate not releasing what his opponent has already done. The president has been vetted and smeared for 3 years, it's not hypocrisy, it's just giving back what you have dished out. If it's good for republicans to ask Obama for everything, why is it not good for voters to ask the same thing for Romney. It's called scrutiny...and every presidential candidate goes thru it.
Which points up exactly what I said Ron. Good for you for learning how to use Google search.
Interesting isn't it that the only time this has been asked is of a black Democratic President.
Now that you have learned to use google search, maybe YOU can try to get into an institute of higher learning yourself.
My mantra for this election? Scratch a teabagger, find a bigot.
Ummm, Ron, that is from a public K-12 school. That is NOT the case with colleges because college students are assumed to have the constitutional protections ADULTS enjoy. MINORS may have their constitutional rights "amended" in many instances ... such as using school records or conducting locker searches. As a college prof, I can tell you that colleges CANNOT release such records without express consent. In fact, we as profs are told not to even acknowledge whether we teach a student unless we know for a fact the student has signed a release. In addition, transferring college students must coordinate their own records transfers BECAUSE SUCH TRANSFERS REQUIRE A RELEASE..
What I am noticing is big double standard here. The R/R team forget we have videotape. It was quite okay for Santorum to talk about blah people and say some were going to be put in chains. He belongs to GOP you know. Oh but when Biden says it it is awful. Double standard? Get over it. If it is okay for the repubs to say it, it is okay for the Dems. GEt over it. And if you remember what the GOP said about each other I think a lot of things are fair game aren't they? Oh I will be so glad when Obama wins and this election is just a distant memory. And Romney probably does now too after his gaffe on Friday apparently about picking another unvetted candidate. Did he know about Ayn Rand and how many years Ryan had been devoted to her. Over 20 at least.
Ron - The entire "Obama registered as a foreign student" thing was an April Fool's Joke. Published by AP on April 1, 2009.
