Obama battles Ryan, but war is still with Romney

BOONE, IA -- During the first two stops of his Iowa campaign trip, President Barack Obama took direct aim at Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney’s newly-minted running mate.

But don’t expect the president to make Ryan his permanent foil on this trip.

An Obama campaign official told NBC News that the president isn’t going to talk about Paul Ryan at every event during his three-day swing through Iowa, saying the race is more about the vision for the top of the ticket – Mitt Romney – than it is about Ryan.

But that doesn’t mean the president won’t tie both members of the GOP team with Ryan’s day job in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, which, along with the Democrat-controlled Senate, is one of the most unpopular institutions in America.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney returned to the trail Monday in the key swing state of Florida, while his new running mate Paul Ryan canvassed Iowa – the same state President Obama was visiting. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.

On Monday morning in Council Bluffs, IA, Obama called on Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman, to convince his colleagues to pass the farm bill, a crucial piece of legislation that was not taken up before Congress left for recess.

“So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and to our rural communities. It’s time to put politics aside and pass it right away,” Obama said.

But Obama dropped that direct appeal at his next stop at a park pavilion in Boone, IA, where he repeated what is already becoming a familiar, albeit softer, line of attack: “Over the weekend my opponent chose as his running mate the ideological leader of the Republicans in Congress. And I’ve gotten to know Congressman Ryan – he’s a good man, he’s a family man, he’s a very articulate spokesperson for Governor Romney’s vision. But it’s a vision I fundamentally disagree with."

Although it may have been politically advantageous for the president to directly address Ryan on Monday (while Ryan, riding high from this weekend’s rollout, also stumped in Iowa), it may be more beneficial for the president to refocus his attacks on the man running to unseat him: Mitt Romney.

Yeah, if only the Obama administration would use tax dollars to PAY to spread their propaganda, like the Bush administration did with their retired generals for its "last throes" and "a few dead-enders" "message, regarding the Iraq war..in 2004.

Or to "journalists" like Armstrong Williams (to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars), to blow smok------errrrrrr, "spread their message" regarding Bush's "No Child Left Behind" program.

But see, it's the mainstream media's fault, right?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/23/white-house-online-rapid-response_n_865652.html

The Obama administration has created and staffed a new position tucked inside their communications shop for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community.

"This week, Jesse Lee will move from the new media department into a role in the communications department as Director of Progressive Media & Online Response," read an internal memo from Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, provided to The Huffington Post. "For the last two years, Jesse has often worn two hats working in new media and serving as the White House's liaison with the progressive media and online community. Starting this week, Jesse will take on the second role full time working on outreach, strategy and response."

The post is a new one for this White House. Rapid response has been the purview of the Democratic National Committee (and will continue to be). Lee's hire, however, suggests that a portion of it will now be handled from within the administration. It also signals that the White House will be adopting a more aggressive engagement in the online world in the months ahead.

Do you like this part? Notice it is a "New Position" for the White House.

In other words Obama and the DNC are using taxpayers money to push their agenda. If Bush had done anything like this the Left would be all over it.

I grew up in a die hard Republican family and pretty much stayed with the party. The GOP is so far gone that you really beg for someone to support and vote for. And what do we get? A corporate raider and some dip*&it who's claim to fame is a plan to butcher Medicare?? Are you really serious? Get a rope and hang your self right now as you have no prayer to win any election.

There no way this pair will win and until the Republican Party can get with the times many of us have no other choice but to turn our back to you.

Really??? Because I must have missed the part where your "evidence" that Obama is doing the same says that a quarter of a million taxpayer dollars went directly into a retired general or journalist's pocket.

And if you think that Bush didn't also have a paid "media response" position, you should not post here. Jim Wilkerson might ring a bell.

Just in case you missed it: Paying someone to handle the press does not equal paying a journalist to write the press...undisclosed, of course.

Sorry right Wing Nut Job (Also known as KenyaPackandLeave) CONGRESS under the direction of the TP & GOP slashed Medicare. And I cant speak for every nursing home, but I personally am affilliated with the largest provider of post-accute care in America, and we chose to cut at the top.. the regional director etc so there were NO cuts at the resident care level. Not in nurses, or nurses aides. Not in the kitchen or the laundry or housekeeping. Not in therapy or social services or activities. High level management took the cuts, and Grandma doesnt sit in feces or urine.

Now... if those funds were restored, I would hope that they would bring back some of the high level staff.. they did serve a purpose... but I would also hope they would invest in more "at the bedside" team members, because its still not easy taking care of grandma, and we could always use more resources ti make her safe and comfortable.

CONTINUE THE CARE!

Obama's war is with anyone who has been successful or works hard. He hates the ones that produce in this country. He hates capitalism. He hates the ones that started a business and were successful.

He told 'Ol Joe The Plumber in Ohio 4+ years ago, he wants to spread it around. That is what he's all about..... stealing your wealth and playing Santa with it to mostly low life, lazy, uninformed, parasitic lemmings that lack any common sense.

This November is not an election... it is a nationwide IQ test. We are either going to be a socialist like European bankrupted society that caters to the nations lazy parasites or we are going to pick winners like Romney and Ryan who are boldly talking about how to fix problems... and have actually done it.

America is sick of the divisive, lying, blaming BS, class warfare, community organizing, Chicago gutter type politics from Obama and his thugs in his re-election HQ in Chicago.

It's time for some leaders with integrity, We need them now..... Romney / Ryan...... Our children's only hope.

Hah! Hah! You Republicans and Teabaggers are self-Imploding.

You're NOT just LOSING the 2012 Presidential Election.

You've ALREADY LOST.

Might as well stay at home.

You've got a possible Felon running for President who admits he has illegally "Retired RetroActively" as CEO when still drawings a Million dollar salary from Bain Capital. Please somebody tell me, what the Heck is "RetroActive Retirement", and can you or I do that with our Tax-Returns?

And speaking of Tax-Returns, what the heck are in Romney's? We already know based on just one year, that Romney Outsourced Good old American Jobs to China and Mexico, so maybe what's in those Ten Years Romney didn't pay any Taxes, is Proof he didn't Tithed the Mormon Church!

'Cause he was Laundering the Churches tithe money thru his phony Cayman Island "slush-funds", so he could put all his Ill-gotten gain in his Hidden Swiss Bank accounts, and then use that Untaxed Money to buy his Wife's Million dollar Olympic Show Horse, and then write it all off, as a "Therapy Horse".

it all makes sense Now.

Mitt Romney has a Major hideous and horrific "Character Problem".

His "character shortcomings" and "character defects" are just a continuation of his earlier spoiled Frat-boy Bully persona, the kid who thinks he's above and beyond the law, and can hold down a innocent and weaker kid and indimidate other children by butchering and shaving their hair.

Let's send Mitt Romney and his Republican back to the "Dung Heap of History" where they rightfully belong, by Voting a straight Democratic ticket come this November 2012.

By the way Mitt, London and England got it Right

And Yes! I am a Republican. I just don't find Mitt Romney very "Manly", do you?

The choice of Congressman Ryan as the Republican vice presidential running mate seems likely to alienate the libertarian wing of the Republican Party as well. Ryan has repeatedly voted in favor of extending the Patriot Act without any reforms, and also voted to approve language in the National Defense Authorization Act last year that gives the President of the United States the power to grab American citizens and hold them prisoner for an unlimited length of time without criminal charge. Paul Ryan is no friend of constitutional freedoms.

Another "leak" from an un-disclosed, un-named, Senior White House official. And the finger is starting to point at the East Wing of the White House or Valerie Jarrett.

BTW: It is time NBC-NDP took Mr. Obama's "Happy Birthday" ad off the web. Looks like not many people went to his birthday party. Maybe some of his closest friends attended: Anita Dunn, Billy Ayers, Rev. Wright, Jesse Jackson, Hilary Rosen, Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, Valerie Jarrett, Mrs. Pelosi, and Mr. Jimmy Carter.

Time for Romney and Ryan to start their "counter attack" to Mr. Obama's, and his Chicago run of the mill political campaigners, false-deceptive-untrue-outrageous ads and hit him where it hurts......HIS FAILED ECONOMY and FAILED INTERNATIONAL POLICIES.

Well what about the President's own vision. Four years ago, Senator Obama, made statements as to how bad deficit spending was. Without conditions to include any act of congress, he vowed to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. That was in 2008 and the federal deficit for fiscal year 2008 was 458.55 billion dollars. So to keep his promise the 2012 federal deficit cannot exceed 229.27 billion dollars yet it has already gone many times past that. The President promised us a transparent administration. The President needs to reveal to the American people how he is going to keep his promise regarding federal deficit. After all he is the federal government's chief executive officer. We are now well into the 4th year of President Obama's vision. All hale the Chief!

The President needs to be reminded of some words of wisdom that were spoken back in March of 2006. The words were as true then as they are today.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
      ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

Romney left Bain in '99 to run the Olympics...he did not sell his interests in the company or sell the company off to another party. He stepped down from the day-to-day operations since running the Olympics was quite enough on his plate.

If the owner of the company I work for went away on a three tear safari and turned the operation of the company over to me, then folks like you would say that he was still in charge of running the company while he was off stalking lions in the jungle...even though I would be the person to take the credit or the blame for anything the company did while he was away. I do not know why this simple concept is so difficult for some to understand.

Even more difficult to understand for me is the concept of any single nation on this planet putting a twit like Barack Obama in charge of hosting something as huge as the Olympics. Maybe he could organize and run a country fair in Smalltown, USA...but the concept of him actually running a host country's Olympic program is absolutely laughable.

It should say "Presumptuous presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney..."

So I was wrong all these weeks when I predicted Romney would choose Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. I admit it. I gave Mitt Romney more political credit than he obviously deserves. But, I was NOT wrong about one thing…

              • MITT ROMNEY IS AN IDIOT!

              1. Ryan is from Wisconsin and there is no way on God's Green Earth Ryan being Veep will help his ticket take Wisconsin's Electoral votes away from Obama.

              2. Ryan does not help Romney win any other votes in the Mid-West, which is solidly for Obama/Biden.

              3. Ryan's Budget angered Baby Boomers and there are still more of that age group in the voting ranks than any other.

              4. The state of Virginia was still in-play, and could have possibly swung to Romney with McDonnell. Not very likely, but possible. At least more likely than Wisconsin or the Mid-West with Ryan.

              5. McDonnell on the ticket could have helped shore-up Republican base votes in the South, but Ryan is less effective there being from The Rust Belt.

              and

              6. Announcing this momentous decision early Saturday morning when most of America is still asleep. Who's brilliant idea was that? (Romney's?)

              • What is going to be really embarrassing...

is when Romney goes to the GOP Convention, with his Veep running-mate Ryan and The GOP asks Romney to step down so they can nominate someone who actually has a chance to win.

“Too many members of Congress are blocking the farm bill from becoming law,” the president said, including Ryan, whom Obama called “one of the leaders of Congress standing in the way.” http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/13/13262263-obama-hits-ryan-on-farm-bill?lite

What Bob wants you to believe - Obama ordered Seal Team Six to take out Ryan and his family because Ryan, as the only member of Congress, stopped passage of the bill. Bob's posts have 1% credibility.

Congress simply passed an extention of the farm bill, and it doesn't address any long term fixes... so the samll farmers who really need subsidies won't be getting them and the larger farmers who are living off tax payer subsidies in beautiful homes will continue to receive their subsidies... And the GOP is still trying to convince us that they're concerned about the deficit... Give me a break... they're concerned about the 1%.

Newt needs to write Ryan and Romney an identical position paper. Probably give 'em a discount on the price. Then, at least to the fools, they wouldn't appear to be running against each other. Might even look like they are both on the same subject. Course, even newt, nor Ryan, can do anything about Romneys failure to show the country His tax returns. Waaaa,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. What a pitiful pair of exaggerated mentalities!

Yeah....Mr. Romney is a really, really dumb guy....just tripped over his shoelaces and found a half billion dollars in a brown paper bag. Ever read about some of the awards he won at Harvard ???? Probably not. US Olympic Commitee looking for someone to successfully run an Olympic program in the USA...yeah...let's hire the guy with the "exaggerated mentality"....he'll be just fine.

You want so badly to know what's in Romney's tax returns ??? Here's a hint...he has been one of the most successful businessmen that can be found inside this country. Because of what you term as "exaggerated mentality", he has earned hundreds of millions of dollars in the business world.

You wish to look at "exaggerated mentality"...find a mirror.

@tony-268769#3.11: Bugs Moran once told that one to Elliot Ness. That money was also in a bag. Don't know if it was brown or not. I think He's one of the biggest thieves in this country. It's sure He's afraid to show His tax returns. I wouldn't let His exaggerated mentality worry me if I was you. Most dimwits are so afflicted.

You mean Seal Team Six got Bin Laden. Obama was comfortably sipping his Tea in the Situation room at the White House watching on a video screen like it was a video game or an action movie.

I hope Obama didn't get a blister or a paper cut doing his part which was signing a piece of paper. Do you think he had to roll up his sleeves before he signed the order because it was such hard work lifting that pen and pushing it around on a piece of paper?

But YOUR party destroyed this country. And what's worse is you refuse to take any responsibility for it.

I have no problem admitting that both parties are responsible for the state the Country is in today. It didn't just happen in one term or two it has taken decades to set up the conditions that led to the perfect storm that caused the 2008 economic collapse.

Of course you will have no problem problem acknowledging the Democrats culpability correct?

                            • David Noah is an ungrateful idiot, who owes much to President Obama for being the President who did finally did get Osama bin Laden when lame-ass George Couldn't Do It in 7 years!

                            First Posted: 05/02/11

THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who's responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory -- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.

And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world. The empty seat at the dinner table. Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father. Parents who would never know the feeling of their child's embrace. Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts.

On September 11, 2001, in our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood. We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country. On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family.

We were also united in our resolve to protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice. We quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda -- an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe. And so we went to war against al Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.

(NOTE: Here President Obama gives credit to the U.S. Military.)

Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we've made great strides in that effort. We've disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.

Yet Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped across the Afghan border into Pakistan. Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world.

(NOTE: Here President Obama takes responsibility for issuing orders as Commander In Chief.)

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.

(NOTE: Here President Obama gives credit to the TEAM who actually killed bin Laden.)

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.

For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda's leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies. The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat al Qaeda.

Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There's no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must -- and we will -- remain vigilant at home and abroad.

As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not -- and never will be -- at war with Islam. I've made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam. Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims. Indeed, al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.

Over the years, I've repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where bin Laden was. That is what we've done. But it's important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding. Indeed, bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well, and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.

Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts. They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations. And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al Qaeda and its affiliates.

(NOTE: Again President Obama takes responsibility for his orders, and the results on the service members and their families.)

The American people did not choose this fight. It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens. After nearly 10 years of service, struggle, and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war. These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who's been gravely wounded.

So Americans understand the costs of war. Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by when our people have been killed. We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies. We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda's terror: Justice has been done.

(NOTE: Here President Obama gives CREDIT to the people who made this a successful mission.)

Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and counterterrorism professionals who've worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome. The American people do not see their work, nor know their names. But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.

We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country. And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.

Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.

And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11. I know that it has, at times, frayed. Yet today's achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people.

The cause of securing our country is not complete. But tonight, we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to. That is the story of our history, whether it's the pursuit of prosperity for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens; our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Thank you. May God bless you. And may God bless the United States of America.

"So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and to our rural communities."

And if you happen to run across Senator Reid, tell him he has the farm bill the House passed, and it's really important to our farmers and eventually the consumers (which is pretty much everybody).

"Democrats are balking in protest over the way the bill was handled," according to the New York Times. Republicans didn't like it because of the cost --- but it passed any way and should be moved forward.

That President Obama is implying the delay of a bill is the fault of the Republicans. Very disingenuous of him.

This country needs an actual "leader" piloting the ship of state. We do not have one now...we have more of a "Radioman 1st Class" than a president at the wheel.

President Obama is having to use mules and rope to pull it back down, and doing a pretty damn good job, even while the republican Congressional sons-a-bitches keep trying to screw the mules.

Always a Republican's fault, isn't it. The President is a lousy leader. Period. He's quite similar in character to that captain in Italy who jumped into a lifeboat after steering the cruise ship into the rocks. At least the good Captain Schettino didn't try to blame the ship's sinking on "La Republicanos" as the President would have offered.

Remember Americans, you and I have to pay for the errors of their ways. Ryan voted in favor for all the policies that find us where we are today.

Remember Americans, Romney got filthy rich destroying companies.

They're not done. You vote them in, and it's over. They will finish what they started under Reagan.

REPUBLICANS DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU UNLESS YOU ARE RICH

                                    Bob Herbert, NY Times, 2/11:

But when all is said and done, it is the economic revolution that gained steam during the Reagan years and is still squeezing the life out of the middle class and the poor that is Reagan’s most significant legacy. A phony version of that legacy is relentlessly promoted by right-wingers who shamelessly pursue the interests of the very rich while invoking the Reagan brand to give the impression that they are in fact the champions of ordinary people.

But the olympics will prove it. The country is back on top. The most gold medals. More medals than russia & china by far. Same for the economy. Better than any in europe or asia or anywhere. Simply the best. And i don't have to tell you about our military. Unquestioned leader. Bin laden & ghaddafi gone. North korea danced to disney characters. Iran is next and the last. I tell you there is no question how the story will end.

And just think how things were after only 8 years of the mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo's including the romney man & the paul man's philosophy. Economically falling faster than in 1929. Militarily losing $1B/month in iraq with no progress or end in sight. Bin laden flaunting video after video to rally terrorists all over the world. China a new olympic power.

But i tell you the way you can tell a country is on top is look at the summer olympics. U.S. dominates medal count, sets new gold standard at London Olympics

The GM bailout saved millions of jobs here in the mid west. If GM went down, as Romney wanted, the economy here in Ohio, and the surrounding states would have tanked. The middle class drives this economy. If they have no jobs and no money to spend, everyone suffers.

Oh, except the rich fat cats that have enough money for themselves and their own! Romney, Ryan and the rest of the republican party have no clue how most people in the U.S. live from day-to-day, week-to-week, pay check-to-pay check!

Speaker Boehner, where are the jobs!

Holy...... Please. Romney said to quickly move GM through a structured bankruptcy to get it to a viable state more quickly. Which would have been the best option.

Instead, they dumped BILLIONS into the company.... didn't work, then eventually it went through bankruptcy, Obama gave part of the company to his union / thug supporters.... and still the taxpayers on on the hook for BILLIONS. Great plan..... really?

I love how if the DEMS and Obama run GM into the ground with debt on the taxpayers backs, give part of the company to the unions and the taxpayers get the shaft yet they SAVED the industry and ALL the jobs, yet if the company went through a structured bankruptcy initially, as Romney suggested, somehow, EVERYONE would have lost their jobs. Pure delusional, liberal logic... or lack thereof.

Hey, ask the Delphi workers what happened to their pensions / benefits at the hands of Obama. Ran 'em into the ground. What do you expect from a community organizing lawyer that hasn't succeded at a damn thing or ran so much as a lemonade stand.

BTW, the jobs bills are on Harry Reid's desk..... Call Harry and lose your DNC talking points..... the lies are getting old.

Just_D_Facts: I double please you. There was NO private money to save GM. None. That was why the Government had to step in to save the company with the loans they needed. Loans, not money dumped into the company. It will be repaid.

The jobs bills on Harry Reid's desk are not really jobs bills. They only have the word "jobs" in the name. They are mostly TP agenda crap that will IMHO destroy our great country. More tax cuts for the 1%, kill the EPA, kill public radio and TV. I don't know about you, but I would like to breath clean air, drink clean water and watch unbiased TV and listen to unbiased radio!

A big thanks goes out to Romney for saving the Olympics

Most thinking people KNOW that Mitt did not save the Olympics by himself. The people of Salt Lake City and Utah and other cities and states actually did...

but did YOU know that ...

The federal government provided between approximately $400 million and $600 million of that budget, much of it a result of Romney's having aggressively lobbied Congress and federal agencies. It would prove to be a record level of federal funding for the staging of a U.S. Olympics. An additional $1.1 billion of indirect federal funding came in the form of highway and transit projects.

                                      Hey! GUESS WHAT!

                                      • "Hey Mitt Romney, YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT!"
                                      • Mitt Romney had the financial aid of the Federal Government to BAIL OUT the Olympics!!! (est. $1.5 billion)
                                      • Mitt Romney lobbied for and accepted a Federal Bail Out!!!
                                      • Mitt Romney runs around and claims he did it all by himself.
                                      • Yet ANOTHER Romney LIE!!

But, one thing we do know now, is that when Romney loses this election in November he can always go to work as a LOBBYIST!!!

Okay so Romney lobbied The Fed for and RECEIVED $1.5 to $1.7 BILLION in Federal BAIL OUT money to save the Olympics,

Then Romney supposedly gave back $100 million to the Fed.

                                      • Invest 1.5 to 1.7 BILLION DOLLARS of Taxpayer money
                                      • and receive 100 Million Dollars in return? That's a HUGE LOSS!!!

THAT's NOT A VERY GOOD ROI! (Return On Investment)

If Romney had performed like that at Bain Capital he would NOT be a multi-millionaire today!!

                                      • We sure don't need a LOSER like Romney running our country, THAT's FOR SURE!!!

GM is going down. There is no way to sustain it. The give away just pushed it down the road. The Unions are killing the Auto industry like they did the Rail Roads. It is just a matter of time. The Govt can't afford to bail everyone out. We have realized it. When will you wake up?

why pick a guy that's gonna tee off the largest demographic in america by far.

I'm afraid the President, his campaign and Super Pacs will be the ones "teeing" off the demographic by spreading misinformation and using Mediscare tactics. It is shameful to frighten and upset people simply for the sake of keeping one's job. Yet it happens every election. It happens every time a discussion of important issues is put forward. It is so predictable.

I'm hearing people finally acknowledge Social Security and Medicare have problems that need to be fixed. People understand that and want solutions. As long as politicians continue to hide their heads in the sand, they put regular people's security at risk.

I'll say that Obama's war is still with Romney. Why wouldn't it be?

It is Romney who might one day occupy the Oval Office, communicating daily with Salt Lake City on matters regarding social policy while Tea Party favorite Paul Ryan finds himself largely ignored and relegated to running interference with those pesky secular congressional leaders.

It is Romney who might one day find himself entrusted with leading the nation out of a withering recession, but what in his prior experience actually attests to his ability to provide such leadership?

The notion that Romney has demonstrated the capacity to improve the economy of anything other than his family, an extremely small circle of business associates and investors, and the viper-like religious SuperPAC known as Latter Day Saints is laughable.

In one fell swoop since 2009, with the bailout of the auto industry, Obama surpassed Romney's lifetime record in total number of jobs saved, total number of new jobs created, and total number of Americans kept OFF of unemployment.

You fools on the Right who stare in wide wonder at one man's ability to rape and pillage American businesses represent the worst in our society. Your own selfish desire to reap similar rewards, and afterward when you fail to blame the victims, is pitiful.

Romney is a slash-and-burn corporate raider. He is, in essence, an immorally criminal hybrid, a marriage of the soul-less Bernie Madoff with the heartless Gordon Gecko, if not in the eyes of the law simply because his ilk have written the laws, then in the eyes of the children whose families have been ripped apart in order for Mitt and Ann to explore the unimaginable breadth and depth of their own avarice.

The growing wealth gap between the races in the U.S. is the focus of the new
report, which you can download here. Other researchers have found equally damning evidence of the widening gap between the very rich and everyone else. This graph shows how "the top 10 per cent of income earners in the US took home an ever more outsized share of the total national income starting at the end of the 1970s." From the World War II era to the early 1980s, the "top 10 percent took 30-35 per cent of total national income," but by 2007 that figure had grown to about 50 percent--a level not seen since just before the Great Depression.

Ronald Reagan's fiscal policies started this trend, but George W. Bush accelerated it with his enormous tax cuts for the highest earners. During Bush's presidency, "The share of the nation's income flowing to the top 1 percent of households increased
sharply, from 16.9 percent in 2002 to 23.5 percent in 2007 - a larger share than at any point since 1928." In addition, approximately "Two-thirds of the nation's total income gains from 2002 to 2007 flowed to the top 1 percent of U.S. households [...]."

This enormous wealth gap is invisible to the Reagan-worshippers who now dominate the Republican Party. For them, any attempt to increase working-class wages is a "job-killer," and tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the well-off are the solution to every problem. Look at how the Republican candidates for Iowa governor balk at spending $42 million to send more than 12,000 kids to pre-school but brag about plans to cut corporate taxes by $80 million to $160 million. Their priorities would be laughable if the real-world consequences were not so tragic.

It's perfectly fine to let the children suffer, to let the poor suffer, to let the elderly suffer, to let educations suffer. As long as we don't ask the rich to invest in anything but themselves.

That's what all these cuts will do in the Romney/Ryan budget.

Everybody will suffer, except Romney, Ryan and their rich pals.

The tea party was originally created to be able to cut all and any government. Not picking winners and losers. RYan should not be in the tea party as he doesn't want everything cut. Anytime you pick a winner and a loser in government, the arguement begins. Romney chose defense contractors over medicare. As soon as he did that, obama wins. He should of said he would cut everything in sight. There is a list a mile long in government that could be axed. He didn't- thats a signal that says business as usual. That's all I hear. . Now, I would rather wait 4 more years and then we will try it again when the deficit is 20 trillion. Let them fight it out- who really cares. The pendulum has swung to obama. He will win and let the tax cut's expire. So what if a few millionaires get a higher rate. It won't matter in november. I wanted to see the entire government gutted by 1 trillion or more. Aint gonna happen with neither party.

Romney, where are your tax returns? What are you so afraid of, you wimp.

He has spent his life scamming the system. He's the guy with the hand outs, and now is too afraid to show us.

It really says a lot when nuns have more courage than a potential President of the United States. They are brave souls speaking and fighting for what is wrong in America with Ryan and Romney.

They have no stake in this except human decency.

re Occupy Oakland Members in Favor of Sex Trafficking? Wait Until You See What They Did

On June 13, apparent members of Occupy Oakland staged a counter-protest at the H.E.A.T. (Human Exploitation and Trafficking) conference to end human exploitation and trafficking.

Why on earth would they do that? While the Occupy movement has long struggled with having a cohesive message, some of the signs indicated that rescuing girls from lives of prostitution constitutes racism, and that the police and “patriarchy” shouldn’t have control over such matters.

Occupy Oakland protests anti-child sex trafficking conference
On June 13, more than 400 people, mainly from law enforcement and non-profits, gathered for a conference in downtown Oakland’s Marriott Hotel. Outside, a group of angry protesters gave impassioned speeches before trying to enter the hotel. The complex set of issues involved? The conference was organized to discuss tactics for arresting and charging child sex traffickers, but the protesters said that the conference would do nothing but further the state’s harmful impact on the lives of sex workers.

Occupy Oakland has not been shy about calling out police behaviors

I found it rather interesting that President Obama chose to head off Paul Ryan and go to Iowa before Ryan got there instead of going after Mitt. The Democratic machine clearly recognizes Ryan as a force to be reckoned with. I like his style thus far. He stays on target and doesn't allow the petty politics to distract him.

I wonder how long it will be before there are demands for Ryan's tax records and birth certificate, though. Lol. They're coming, folks, count on it.

Between the government farm subsidies, crop insurance and a crop down 25% or so, the farmers will make even more money under obama than ever. Its an easy state to win for him. He is just doing one last shore up before the election. The really big states are florida and ohio. Really, picking a guy who wants to f with the baby boomers is just dumb and really dumb. Thats the most greedies generation alive and anyone that so much as touches a penny gets tarred and feathered. I would have picked a guy that said I jut wanna cut and cut and cut. This idea that you can pick one industry over another, it just gets messy too fast and the dems have that advantage.

That is what happened in 2008.

For some reason America actually thought that being popular, charming and well spoken equated to competency and ability.

We all know what a wonderful and charismatic speaker Obama is and that has helped him a great deal. No one will deny that.

The true showdown coming in November is NOT between Obama and Romney. Nor is it between Democrats and Republicans or even liberals and conservatives.

It is a showdown between the angry and jaded 10% of the electorate who identify themselves as Tea Party members and the frustrated and increasingly impatient 50% of the electorate who identify themselves as Independent voters.

It is a showdown between those who through bluster, blather, and a devil's bargain made with FOX NEWS continue to block any and all compromise and those who use reason, consideration, and informed discourse to conclude that solution might only be constructed through compromise.

The prize will NOT be control of the White House as THAT battle appears to be concluding early, not so much because of Obama's strengths, either real or imagined, as it is a result of Romney's weaknesses.

No, the prize will not be the Oval Office. The prize will be control of Congress.

Wouldn't it be great for the Dems to get control of the house and stop the anti women's rights, anti LGBT rights, anti jobs, anti economy TP crowd? It would probably help if you actually have your numbers correct.

Do you honestly believe that after watching the behavior of the "Occupiers" over the last 3/4 of a year or so Moderates are going to choose "Occupiers" (and their supporters such as Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc) over tea partiers?

Thanks to the "Occupiers" everyone is going to ignore any attempt by the Left to paint Tea partiers as Extremists. We have seen real Extremism thanks to the "Occupiers".

                                        Holy,

I for one believe that the Tea Party will die on the vine only after the Koch Brothers, et al conclude that their 'money tree' is no longer bearing fruit.

The Tea Party is now and has always been an amorphous mess, comprised of an undeniable number of concerned conservatives but peppered with an increasing number of fringe reactionaries who have no other 'respectable' forum within which to spew their hate speech.

What at one time may have been a confluence of self-proclaimed 'patriots' has been co-opted by the 1%-ers, unfortunately all too easily. To the great peril of our democracy, FOX NEWS and AM Talk Radio have provided the necessary stickum to bind this mess together, albeit loosely.

All in all, the Tea Party remains a very small percentage of the electorate. An angry percentage, yes, but one whose political influence might easily be blunted by an equally motivated progressive Left.

...and David, you can be conservative and still consider yourself a thinking Independent voter. Speak not of what you do not comprehend or understand.

David: I've seen the news reports. It depends on where you get your news as to how "bad" the occupiers were. Sure there were a few "rotten apples" in the basket, but for the most part the reaction to the occupiers was way over blown. Mostly they were on public property, which is their right and the protests were peaceful. You would be surprised how many people agree with their message.

Burning the U.S. Flag, is the proper way to dispose of the flag, just ask the Boy Scouts. It is also a SCOTUS ruled right of free speech!

What gives me a sour stomach is stupidity and hypocrisy. Like the TP sign "Keep your government hands off my Medicare"!

MSNBCMFE: I agree with your response to my post. Citizens United must be overturned or removed by amendment.

Obama better stay clear of Paul Ryan unless he wants to be humiliated and recognized for all the things he's not...

Although it may have been politically advantageous for the president to directly address Ryan on Monday (while Ryan, riding high from this weekend’s rollout, also stumped in Iowa), it may be more beneficial for the president to refocus his attacks on the man running to unseat him: Mitt Romney.

Obama is going to get his Azz kicked in the debates and in NOV!!!

OK. What’s Mitt’s known successes over the years?

1 - He successfully bankrupted companies for $90 million a pop profit, putting thousands of white people out of work

2 - He successfully hid our money in offshore accounts..

3 - He is successfully avoiding disclosing his tax returns that shows that he didn’t pay taxes.

4 - He has successfully ran a State as Governor that was 47th in job creation.

5 - He is successfully avoiding talking about his Mormon religion.

6 - He is successfully avoiding associating with minorities (especially black people). Because, you know, they are beneath him.

7- He is successfully avoiding associating with white trash. Because, you know, they are beneath him. Sorry Tea Party people.

8 - He is successfully building a car elevator in his home. You know why. So that his pampered wife will not have far to walk when leaving her 3rd level bedroom.

9 - He will successfully lose the bid for the Presidency.

Mitt Romney wanted to send a message when he took over as chief executive of the Salt Lake Olympic Games. So he moved the organization's Washington office from a well-appointed K Street law firm to a barren third-floor walk-up, wedged between a burrito shop and hair salon near the U.S. Capitol.

It was furnished with broken desks cast off by federal agencies. Its stairs were so steep that Cindy Gillespie, the head of federal relations for the Olympic committee, refused to have guests visit.

"It was a nightmare — I couldn't stand it," Gillespie recalled. "But Mitt just adored it. He thought it was totally appropriate."

The message, of course, was that frugality was the new watchword of the organization, which had been battered by revelations that Salt Lake officials had showered more than $1 million in gifts on International Olympic Committee members in their effort to land the 2002 Winter Games.

Scaling down the Washington office was one of the many moves that Romney made to wipe out the scars of profligate spending. Recruited in February 1999 to take over the beleaguered Olympic committee, Romney deferred his $280,000-a-year salary until the Games were over and its finances secure, then donated it to charity. (He had taken a leave from Bain Capital, but was still receiving substantial payments from it.) He got rid of catered food for board meetings and instead offered pizza at $1 a slice.

Romney frequently touts his success running the Olympics as an example of his strength as a chief executive. The experience also demonstrated his skills as an agile politician — one who touted the committee's new frugality and deftly parried questions about the role the Mormon Church would play in putting on the Games.

For some of those who worked with him then, it is an image at odds with what they've seen emerging from the 2012 campaign.

"The Mitt on the campaign trail is not the Mitt I knew as the leader of the Olympics," said Randy Dryer, a Democratic lawyer who served on the 53-member Salt Lake Olympic Committee board of trustees. "I chuckle when I hear news reports about Mitt being stiff and standoffish and having handlers who insulate him. He was accessible, he was personable, he was inclusive."

Former Democratic Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson, who is now running his own independent presidential bid, agreed: "It surprised me that during the course of this campaign that he's come off so out-of-touch and rather aloof; that's not the guy I ever dealt with."

The contrast speaks to how much in his element Romney felt as he worked to right the Games — an experience that propelled him into a successful run for governor of Massachusetts and his bids for the presidency — and to the inevitable constraints on a candidate waging a hard-fought national campaign.

"The difference is between someone who is day-to-day running something and someone who is out literally campaigning for a job," Gillespie said. "He's not one of those slap-you-on-the-back politicians. What he is is a leader."

It would take an act of God for a Mormon who associates with Romney to think freely.

Whoa the country is clearly back on top. The entire world saw it live on tv.

Same for the economy. Better than any in europe or asia or anywhere. Simply the best. And i don't have to tell you about our military. Unquestioned leader. Bin laden & ghaddafi gone. What terrorism. North korea dances to disney characters. Iran is next and the last. I tell you there is no question how the story will end.

And just think how things were after only 8 years of the the bushman, mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo - Economically falling faster than in 1929. Militarily losing $1B/month in iraq with no progress or end in sight. Bin laden flaunting video after video to rally terrorists all over the world. China a new olympic power. The romney man & the paul man's philosophy as the bushman.

But i tell you the way you can tell a country is on top is look at the summer olympics. And why. I tell you it is because of our women athletes. The chinese & russians have nothing like them. No. No. Women brought back the gold to obama and the country. Just like they will do again for obama in nov.

Thanks obama. - Winning the war for women.

What makes you think they were doing it for Obama?

Kind of pompous don't you think to give credit for their hard work, determination, years of training and sacrifice to be successful to Obama? Or is that part of the "You didn't build that"?

Should we add "You didn't win that" to Obama's repertoire?

Somewhat comparable to the President attempting to take credit for the death of bin Laden, I'd say. Bush set up the intelligence networks, the CIA worked through the info and used the black ops, waterboarding, and enhanced interrogations Obama OPPOSES in order to get leads out of KSM, and Seal Team Six pulled the trigger. I'm failing to see where Obama fits into the picture. Sure, he told them "Yeah, shoot," but what other recourse did he have? It's recently come to light that he already had told them three different times NOT to finalize the mission after receiving instructions from Valerie Jarrett. So it appears that the credit should go to Bush, the CIA, enhanced interrogations, Juan Gonzalez, Seal Team Six, and (if Liberals insist) VALERIE JARRETT.

Yet who's out there taking the bows?

                                        Cubbie,

Regarding the long-overdue death of Osama bin Laden, President Obama (and ONLY President Obama) reprioritized the objective, approved the plan, issued the order, authorized the resources, maintained the secrecy, monitored the progress, and informed the nation and the world with steely resolve of the success of the Seal Team 6 mission.

George, Dick, and Donald were long since retired, basking in the glow of all that might have been had they only been up to the challenge.

                                        bin Laden beat Bush.

                                        bin Laden beat Cheney.

                                        bin Laden beat Rumsfeld.

bin Laden lasted less than 28 months under Obama.

                                        Deal with it.

Regarding the "You didnt build that" comment...

Just read the following paragraphs, and TRY to be HONEST for a change. At least TRY! (It will give you a warm feeling all over, like the last time you peed your pants.)

in 2002, during his speech at the Opening Ceremonies at the Winter Olympics -- the games in which Romney was lauded for turning around the management -- Romney made a similar argument about Olympians.

"You Olympians, however, know you didn't get here solely on your own power,” said Romney, who on Friday will attend the Opening Ceremonies of this year’s Summer Olympics. “For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”

NOW, if you take the words Olympians and other references to the Olympics out and replace them with Business Owners and other similar words, you get this...

                                        • "You Business Owners, however, know you didn't get here solely on your own power,” said Romney, who on Friday will attend the Opening Ceremonies of this year’s Summer Olympics.“For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities builtroads and bridges in order to transport your goods and services. AllBusiness Owners stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Business Owners, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”

Now that sounds an awful lot like what President Obama said the other day about business owners, doesn't it? Why, YES IT DOES!!!

I look for them to retreat back into the make believe fox "reality" and attempt to stay there until the election. Poor Mittens: a failure of a human being saddled himself with a failure of a human being.

What scares Libturds about Romney/Ryan is they have a plan and a vision.

Liberals are use to a loser with no vision, no future from a President that
                                                  hates America & Americans.

Obama's welfare base has a vision and that's more welfare..

Our President has a vision and after almost 4 years it is still just that, a vision. I believe that he still hopes that things will change. For example, the President said that the White House dog will be a mutt, "like me", from a shelter yet the dog they got is a pure bread who has never set foot in a shelter. The President is suppose to be the most powerful man in the free world yet the President cannot realize his vision on something as trivial as the White House dog. Apparently Obama is not the one who wears the pants in his family.
