DES MOINES, IA -- Paul Ryan’s first solo campaign stop since being announced as Mitt Romney’s running mate was marred by constant interruptions from loud protesters Monday while visiting the Hawkeye State on the same day President Obama kicked off his bus tour here.
Ryan’s "welcome" at the popular Iowa State Fair -- where he was never knocked off message -- was similar to receptions he has received in his neighboring home state of Wisconsin, which saw tremendous amounts of protest during its fight over collective bargaining and its recall elections.
“It was great,” Ryan said about the event following his roughly 10-minute speech at the Des Moines Register’s Soap Box stage. “You know, in Wisconsin, we've been dealing with this sort of thing with these recall elections. It was an overwhelming crowd of support and it was exciting to do it and I love coming to the fair.”
The scene at the fairgrounds was very chaotic as Ryan attempted to make his way through the crowd –- shaking hands with folks along the way near the food vendors. During the speech, two women even attempted to get on the stage before security was forced to pull them away.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, who made the trip to Iowa with his fellow Wisconsinite Sunday night, didn’t seem too concerned about the environment.
“It’s an open forum. Public discourse right?” he said.
The Wisconsin congressman –- just tapped as Romney’s VP two days ago -– ventured to the battleground state of Iowa without Romney to bracket Obama’s three-day bus tour in the state. Ryan walked around the fair with Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Congressman Steve King by his side.
"I heard that President Obama is starting his bus tour today, and I heard he wasn't going to come to the Iowa state fair," Ryan told the crowd before getting interrupted by a women shouting about Medicare. He continued: "My guess is the reason that the reason President Obama isn't making it here from Council Bluffs is he only knows left turns, but as you see the president come through on his bus tour you may ask him the same question I get asked all over America. And that is: Where are the jobs Mr. President?"
Ryan, who spent most of the morning meeting with staff both in person and via teleconference -- failed to address a big issue locally.
The state of Iowa, like much of the Midwest, is suffering from a severe drought.
Asked about how he thinks the government could help in these circumstances, Ryan said, “We'll get into all these policy things later... I just want to enjoy the fair.”
A Ryan aide told reporters, however, that the congressman voted for the drought relief bill earlier this month -- the Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act Of 2012 -- and blamed the inaction from Congress on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Ryan heads to Colorado for two private fundraisers Monday night and a public event Tuesday morning in the Denver area.

Wow, we are really jumping on Ryan. I guess Ryan was the correct choice. Why don't we put his budget plan on your site so that we can make our own decisions instead of you trying to run campaigns for the Administration.
Why do't we talk about the 700 million that Obama Care cuts from Medicare?
Little Eddie ain't seen nothin yet. Wait until he has to confront pissed of senior citizens and has to explain to them what his plans are for Medicare and SS. It could turn into a lynching.....
Obama/Biden 2012
Concern - I'm sure to someone like YOU Ryan was a great choice. Let's see - he failed to discuss issues - just wanted to walk around the fair. Yep - he'll fit nicely with Romney - neither one can say anything of value!
Obama/Biden 2012
Concern Citizen-856329 -- That's the conclusion your draw? Hahaha, no powers of deduction, critical thinking, or any logic there.
Romney/Ryan -- They should take shoe avoidance lessons from Dubya.
This last Meet the Press -- Sweet Jeeebus David Gregory, your program is NOT a platform for rightwing propaganda -- But to quote Forest Gump "Sometimes, I guess there just aren't enough rocks" or spoiled vegetables or shoes when it came to Rich Lowry. That man was so rude and obnoxious, he should never be a guest again on anyone's show.
Gregory -- Add Lowry to the list along with Oly Taitz, Joe Walsh, Marsha Blackburn, and the rest of that ilk. He exemplifies all that is wrong with the Teapublican mentality, and...
Romney/Ryan -- Show us your tax returns NOW!
Okay, First Read: here is the thing. It is very easy to stay "on message" when your message has been the same since Reagan was in office:
To wit: Cut taxes for the wealthy, poor souls, they just don't have enough bling. Starve poor children and women in crisis, ending WIC and food stamps. And hey, for fun? Let's go bomb someone.
No hard at all.
Dear thoughtful First Read posters..is there any REAL point to responding to concern? I don't think so. Makes a terrible mess of a decent thread.
TruePatriot-445959
SeekingSanity
Same old statement on how you know everything and everyone else is wrong. It's childish and old.
Show me the where in Ryan's plan it says that he will cut Medicare for Senior Citizens. Likewise, show me the same for SS. If you don't give me a link than you know nothing.
newdayDAWNING...RETURNED: You can't teach an old horse, oops an old dog a new trick.
I agree. If Romney wanted his campaign to end in a humiliating failure, Ryan was correct choice for meeting Mitt's goals.
thoughtful first readers LOL... Let me translate, hey libtards ignore concern citizen
Speaking of people who drag down decent threads.....
It's easy to stay on message when you have no message to interrupt. Pretty soon we're going to be hearing Ryan talk about how he loves trees and cars and then his own rendition of "America the Beautiful!" Anything but policy!
concern, Is this something you just heard on the radio? anyway since conservative like using the following site as proof (in the past) here ya go sweety.
www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/dec/12/mitt-romney/romney-says-only-obama-has-cut-medicare/
I want to expand on this topic but again I can explain it to you, but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT FOR YOU.
whew, got that of my chest. Now read the article and note the "medicare advantage account" paragraph.
Because that is a GOSH DAMN Lie coming fro the Republicans. They are cuts in COST, and not benefits! FACT!
Every benefit that was previously covered by Medicare is still covered and that is a FACT.
So, to the Republicans, and Tea Bag folks, you people need to stop lying.
i count 9 leftwing nut jobs, yeah there was nothing decent about the thread after you all showed up.
edited 2 more showed up
Yeah, way over her head, Chris. But, good try.
Caesar Augustus-
Here is another for you to count.
Stay on message is code for stray from the truth. It is part of redspeak.
I really enjoyed watching Rich Lowry absolutely destroy MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Meet the Press yesterday. She stammered, ducked, dodged, dived and dodged. She is worthless when it comes to supporting her lies when confronted with facts. She is a loser.
No Chris@SLC, Go and get the Budget as it was written and read it.
Don't give me a link to www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/dec/12/mitt-romney/romney-says-only-obama-has-cut-medicare/.
Please Read the Plan and not what another left wing site is saying. Don't you guys have a mind of your own.
Job1
Job1 the same goes for you, did you read the BILL? as it stands today. No sir, YOU LIE, just like our President.
Please stop acting like one of those brain dead F few tea baggers.
Ben - what Meet The Press were you watching? Rachel totally destroyed HIM! She made him a complete laughingstock - okay he was already that with his stammering and not being able to pronounce words - but she made him look worse - almost like Concern!
Chris - Concern never makes sense - she is good for comic relief - nothing more!
Obama/Biden 2012
I like a President that likes NASCAR! ;)
Chris ...
Perfect!
Blackcat, perhaps but I speak English. as the bluewasters like to say in here. Four legs good, two legs better.
What. I hear a myna bird. Oh no, it's the guttersnipe troll. You know the one with all barbs and no facts. Want me to repost the link to your psycho website???? LMAO.
Ryan the supposed genius -- Deciding to lower the top rate a full 10 points down from 35% to 25%, you have to be a rocket scientist to come up with that. And only a whiz could require 23 years to balance a budget. Ryan's a buffoon, and a hideous immoral one too. Using his religion as the reason to attack the poor, sick, and elderly -- Wow just wow.
Oh Ben - you really should have better regard for yourself but I guess guttersnipe troll is an accurate description of you. Just surprised to see you admit it!
Obama/Biden 2012
Caesar Augustus-
Four legs and a tail best. English is a sponge, it absorbs all other languages and has been the death of many.
Guess what? No significant rise in the polls for Romney upon his choice for VP.
http://themoderatevoice.com/155994/usatgallup-poll-paul-ryan-gets-low-marks-for-vp/
Not looking good for you baggers.
Rightwingers, the "cancer" ad sponsored by a SuperPAC never ran. The ads by Romney that lie about work for welfare, which is a dog whistle with racist undertones, and others such as a war on religion wedge issue lie to polarize, are direct ads from Romney with his approval of the message. But seriously, just ask Romney's opponents in the primary, or anyone who has run against Romney and they don't like him for a good reason.
The man is a scam and running scared. Look at him, he aged overnight and that forced grin is proof that Romney knows he just demoted himself to a puppet with working digits to sign his VP's POS budget. Gawd, what will Romney do or not do to get a job title he so covets?
So now politifact is now a left wing site?!?!?!
just last week you conservative where using this same website as proof. and now a left wing site. the same site ran by Tamba Bay Times. the same new paper / site that endorsed Wiltard.
WHAT EVER GIRL FRIEND!
Concern Citizen-856329
Like I said get your FACTS, and stop the DAMN Lies. You know the truth and the truth is Little Eddie wants to do away with Medicare.
Seems Ryan got his first real taste of what it means to be in the spotlight...I wonder how long before he realizes that Middle Class Americans aren't going away, and sets up "free speech zones" ala George Bush...
I mean, after 13 or so years in politics Ryan manages to get only two of his "bills" passed? Really? Just two? THat's gotta tell you something.
Huh...maybe he should spend less time voting to rename post offices and being involved in insider trading ... just sayin'...
Ryan/Romney (because we REALLY know who the "brains" are behind this ticket): Giving More Money To The Rich Didn't Work...So, We Need To Give More Money To The Rich.
Yeah, we want answers why Ryan wants to use MediScare to scare our voting seniors.
To all my phine, phlamingo loving phriends out there - good afternoon! After spending the day being poked and prodded all I can say is think pink! (I don't really think Mr. Ryan and Mr. Romney like pink - to cheerful and positive)
Folks, don't worry about us old seniors! Already getting lots of email and info from AARP - and we LOVE our AARP! the GOP should really think about all the groups they are offending and still have the nerve to ask for their vote. Should make for an interesting election!
Lordy, Willard hangin' with with drug traffic....convicted felon!
Willards Campaign is so inept!...but maybe Florida will restore this guys voting rights!
Phine! Phancy meeting you here!
$700 million from medicare,700 million, it was actually offset because of our great Presidents health care inititive what a smart man
Wisconsin's favorite sons, Scott Walker and Paul Ryan has turned Wisconsin red.
It's going to be a Romney/Ryan landslide in November. The Democrats have no message, no solutions, not even a budget in the last 3 years.
Part of the article states:
The state of Iowa, like much of the Midwest, is suffering from a severe drought.
Asked about how he thinks the government could help in these circumstances, Ryan said, “We'll get into all these policy things later... I just want to enjoy the fair.”
Translation: Neither Romney or Ryan have any true ideas to help the average American, so stop asking questions that they can't respond: "it's all Obamas fault".
What a pathetic excuse for a couple of politicians and the republican party in general.
But I do applaud him for trying to find a stage befitting his policies: acting as a carny at a fair.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
How little things change~
If the liberals on this board really think Obama is going to win, they are totally hard pressed to find any reason for him winning. A president needs more than just being an incumbent... and more particularly, an incumbent with zero record to show his achievements.
I haven't seen where one liberal has swayed my opinion of Obama for as long as Obama has been president. Looking for energy? Watch the conservatives in November... that's where all the energy is going to be... liberals don't have any... which is a good sign that Obama is pretty much washed up.
Can't wait to see the effect of the movie 2016 on the polls... Zogby has Obama and Romney neck and neck again... just to throw that out there for all the liberals that were drooling over themselves last week when it showed Obama was leading by 9 points..
nomoresameo said: Translation: Neither Romney or Ryan have any true ideas to help the average American,
That's the liberal translation... but maybe Romney just wanted to enjoy the fair... Leave it to a liberal to open mouth, insert foot.
Does anyone remember the old movie "State Fair"? Twas a great movie. Love the old musicals.
Yes, phiney, I remember State Fair and particularly Jeanne Crain singing "It Might As Well Be Spring"! Wotta voice!
Caesar Augustus-
unlike our rightie counterparts, we don't use reregs to show NUMBERS
Kenya Pack n Leave
hey rereg, don't just throw this diarrhea out there, show us the proof
We all know Medicare needs to be revisited, and reworked. No question about that. But Ryan's Medicare Groupons are not the answer. And yes, old people are not stupid and they will never agree to be screwed over to benefit the wealthy with even more tax cuts so people like Romney can get another dancing horsie.
nomoresameo -- Agreed. Usually rural America votes Republican, but I'm trying to wrap my head around how these folks would support two rich Robber Barons in comparison to the Dems who have fought to keep post offices for rural america, and now the president who is fighting to help farmers in drought areas via disaster assistance and buying their goods to keep prices stable.
What segment of our society hasn't been dissed by Romney and/or Ryan yet? If those farmers/ranchers are smart, they will gather any rotten produce to throw at these Robber Barons where ever they go. Pummel them of the stage!
BTW, it has been confirmed that the hecklers at the fair ARE from Iowa! This is how Romney/Ryan will be received when ever they are outside their precious little gated communities and FAUX Noise bubble. But you can bet between now and the debates, they will run away from the press Sharron Angle style!
Ryan embraces the extreme philosophy of Ayn Rand.
Ryan wants to raises taxes on the middle class, cut them for millionaires.
Ryan wants to end Medicare, replace it with a voucher system.
Ryan thinks Social Security is a "Ponzi scheme."
Ryan's budget would result in 4.1 million lost jobs in 2 years.
Ryan wants to eliminate Pell Grants for more than 1 million students.
Ryan supports $40 billion in subsidies for big oil.
Ryan has ownership stakes in companies that benefit from oil subsidies.
Ryan claimed Romneycare has led to "rationing and benefit cuts."
Ryan believes that Romneycare is "not that dissimilar to Obamacare."
Ryan accused generals of lying about their support for Obama's military budget.
Ryan co-sponsored a "personhood" amendment, an extreme anti-abortion measure.
Ryan is the perfect running mate for Mitt Romney. Losers, both.
Obama embraces the communist philosophy of Frank Marshall Davis.
Obama has already raised income taxes on the lowest income in this country.
Obama has put more people on welfare and food stamps than any other president.
Obama lost over a trillion tax payer dollars in failed green energy loans.
Obama's closest friends had vested interests in the failed green companies.
Obama has added more debt to this country in a single term than all other presidents combined.
Obama embraces the radical leanings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Obama is friends with radical terrorist Bill Ayers.
Obama has a net loss of jobs in his term and has the longest streak of unemployment over 8% in history.
Obamanomics caused this country to suffer its first downgrade.
Notice how quickly Ryan sent in the jack-boots?
Whatever happened to freedom of speech with these right wing fascists?
Feisty you have no idea what freedom of speech is. you fail every time? where's libsux?
As to your other points:
The thoughts on Romneycare being a problem and similar to Obamacare is why they want to REPEAL Obamacare.
Social Security is a Ponzi scheme by definition.
It is not factual to say Ryan wants to eliminate Pell Grants. In fact it's a lie. Students can now receive a maximum of $5,550 per year under the Pell Grant program, and Ryan said he plans to leave this figure where it is rather than increasing it each year. However, he would change eligibility requirements so fewer students would qualify for federal Pell Grants.
not as far as I know, I just know a certain poster libsux said he would be banned by Feisty and lo and behold, he disappeared. Funny, freedom of speech and all. The thing is with Feisty Castro, free speech is only when you agree with it and its ilk.
That speaks volumes on how a Romney/Ryan administration would handle a natural disaster. "Get back to ya' later. Having too much fun trying to win a stuffed animal!" Of course, what do you expect from rich a$$ republicans. If this doesn't send up huge smoke signals to anyone on the fence, you need to pay more attention. Big wake up call America. They don't care about you.
Says a newly hatched re-reg... lol
What a pitiful existence ya'll live...
What a pitiful existence ya'll live...
That's grand coming from you
@caesar disgustus - listen up whiny boy. Why don't you go somewhere else if you can't take it. Fact is, you're way out of your league here. Unlike Fox, where i'm sure you have a happy home, we don't agree with the lies put forth on a continual basis with everyone shaking their heads in unison. You guys invade this place like an army of roaches, then cry when you can't win. Face it, all of your complaining to the management is doing nothing but making you look like a little girl and a fool. Have a nice day and don't forget to smile at someone.
What I don't understand is this, all day today I have heard republican pundits and spokesman state that Romney is the head of the ticket, and he only endorses a portion of the Ryan plan. Whenever a breakdown of the Ryan budget comes up, they state that Romney has the plan, and only plans on using a part of the Ryan plan. Others are stating that Ryan is an unknown. What gives???
I as an independent, have heard of the Ryan plan, and that was all over the news last year, and this year. Why is Romney running away from the Ryan plan when he stated in the primaries that he thought it was "marvelous".
Come on republicans, either you embrace the Ryan plan and Romney is all for it, or you don't. Why are the pundits now stating that Romney has the plan is at the head of the ticket. Why did he pick Ryan if not for his republican policy budget plan???
Republicans are not making any sense. Either you want to be fiscal conservative, or you are for the 1%. I am a middle class voter, and I don't see any benefits for me, the middle class with either Romney or Ryan plan.
Can anyone please explain the differences in the Romney and Ryan's plans??
Just give me the specifics so I can be an informed voter. So far, I feel the republicans are the ones smearing and misinforming...not coming clean on what exactly you will do for me, the Middle Class Voter,.
tonybreeeem - I can buy Raid! Just a thought!
Nah!
Industrial strength Republican't repellent is much more effective! ;o)
out of my league? Little league, i agree tony hotdog boy. I should go play with the big boys and leave the special olympics to you and friends.
Tony, i know you and few others think you have some ownership on this site but i dont recall seeing you had to be a fringe left to join. I havent complained to management once unless you are admitting Feisty is part of management?
go back to wetting yourself Toni
Ben, I have 2 daughters in their early twenties going to college part-time, and working part-time. Do you know what colleges, even community colleges charge for tuition, let alone books, and lab fees. The pell grants barely even covers tuition. Fewer students that qualify, means more middle class students going highly in debt, or taking 5-10 years to get a degree. I know, because my kids are living this.
Your statement that RomneyCare is similar to ObamaCare, is laughable. The reason for repealing it is because it is similar. HAHA...Just what is so wrong with it, what is good for a single state, is wrong for the country. Why was Romney for it as Governor, and signed it into law, instead of vetoing it, if it was such a bad idea. Republicans don't make any sense. If you are for it and it is a good idea and Obama and the democrats like it, then suddenly it is a bad idea and bad for the economy. Hypocrisy at it's best.
JackieK, independent -- For Romney we call it flip-flopping (or changing your position more often than you change your celestial underwear), and for his supporters it's called rewriting history, and fixing the facts to fit their delusional world view.
Caesar - what a mature adult response to Tony - NOT! She's right - you ARE out of your league!
Obama/Biden 2012
@Jackie -- Then let's address the cost of colleges and universities and hold their feet to the fire in justifying costs -- the state run institutions at least -- instead of throwing more money at them.
Also as to the health care mention -- It was mentioned in that fashion by Dennis at the start of the string who was giving those statements to Paul Ryan as if they were bad ohohohohoh.
Obama's flipflopping is known as the lie -- evolving. LMAO.
Mature responses LOL. I take one look at the avatar and realize aint much maturity there. Seeking quit licking its boots. Dont lecture me on maturity.
LOL! Next!
Gotta love the GOP, if it don't blow something up or make the wealthy more money, they don't know anything about it.
There has been a need for a new farm bill since the end of 2010, when the Tea Party took over the House. They have refused to pass a bill, knowing very well that if they actually try to do something they have a choice, upset the people producing 25-30% of the GDP or upset the Norquistian nut cases.
Well, the way the Congress is currently not doing much, everything will get done three weeks after its due.
Maybe Republicans truly do believe that if they stall and delay enough, Satan won't be collecting on their blood oaths when they die.
hey dirp have any proof or are just pandering to the leftwing militia members on the board?
Listen up MEDIA.
There is NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE who the GOP aren't willing to throw under the bus, so long as the wealthy are taken care of.
That's all you need to know about them. They threw the veterans under the bus. They threw an Olympian under the bus. They threw women under the bus. Romney threw hard working Americans under the bus by closing shops and making a mint. They threw the poor under the bus, which in essence means they threw children under the bus. They threw senior citizens under the bus. They threw those who need health care under the bus.
Ryan even has the nuns and Bishops speaking out against his policies. The CATHOLIC nuns and Bishops.
They threw the office of the President of the United States under the bus.
And they threw people wanting jobs under the bus.
Romney/Ryan have a history and it's a bad bad bad history. They stand for no one except their rich pals.
There is more refreshing news.
The newest research from Nate has it as:
Today
“Obama chance of winning 73.3% Romney 26.7%”
Projected Winner Obama 301.2
Projected Loser Romney 234.4
Romney and Ryan did get a bounce after the Ryan selection.
The newest research from Nate has it as the NOV 6 factors:
“Obama chance of winning 71.6% Romney 28.4%”
“Projected Winner Obama 301.2”
“Projected Loser Romney 236.8”
However, if the election was being voted in “Now Cast” Today:
Totals
“Obama chance of winning 80.0% Romney 20.0%”
“Projected Winner Obama 302.9”
“Projected Loser Romney 235.1”
Caesar@Mature I take one look at the avatar and realize aint much maturity there
Hey Tony, The little ass monkey really loves my Avatar..
i think its fitting and demonstrates the mentality of the left. nothing more
Considering what the Republican Party has done to our Nation over the years, one has to really question the mentality of Republican voters. They just sit back and say nothing, year after year after year while their party literally destroys this country.
A little correction there, seeking sanity ;-)
LOL! I think he just loves the attention. Probably the only place he gets any.
Industrial strenghth Republican Repellant don't they call that kerosene
they call it malaise
Check out Dennis, the typical leftist.
The choice of Paul Ryan has got him so flustered he now thinks Obamacare is a bad thing.
Just too funny.
All of you leftist should give Ryan a chance. You can learn some job skills, get the gratification of putting in a hard day's work.
Distort and lie. The Obama version of bob and weave.
A couple of things here, nothing wrong with wanting to be a nun or a Catholic. I am a practicing Catholic. And considered becoming a nun after watching the movie "The Song of Bernadette" I am actually considering going to Lourdes to see if it will help, I do have the faith.
Next, Dennis, is the Ohio State Fair still as big and fun as it used to be? When I was a kid, going to the state fair was a very big deal!
Ryan is a CLASS ACT all the way!
(Unlike those no class dissidents that, like the democratic party, are only about name calling and childish behavior. No wonder this country cannot move FORWARD!)
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Sick - Ryan is just like Romney - no substance and absolutely no class!
Obama/Biden 2012
Com'on Mr. Marvelous......answer a constituents question!
hey sick, what do you expect from the freeloading occutard crowd? These clowns are unhinged. These are the uncouth barbarians that support Obama. who da thunk
alexandr1 - your post is totally moronic but nothing I don't expect from you!
Caesar - what a demented post. So if people don't agree with you they are freeloading and barbarians? You are the posterboy for uncouth and classless - and - for good measure we'll add in clueless!
Oh, and you're right - SICK is the perfect term for your buddy!
Obama/Biden 2012
Demented? Why i do declare (you're an idiot). but yeah im not out heckling and defecating and being a total shltbag like the extreme left. No you dont have to agree with me, i can careless. I do care about the mindless rabble out there that seems to vote democrat and incite violence. i.e. occutard crowd.
Girlfriend,
Please don't waste your time feeding a re-reg...
They'll be gone soon enough! ☺
Feisty - I wondered where this one came from. A re-reg .... ah ha!
Hope you're having a good day - even though it's really dreary!
They multiply faster than cockroaches and aren't nearly as cuddly! ;o)
Yout too! I'm actually enjoying the cooler temps & drizzle...
Makes me think of fall & the re-election of our President!
Caesar - your post 3.6 indicates you are everything you loathe!
hey seeking im rubber your glue
Caesar - truly pathetic!
Wave and hug to Feisty! Think pink GF! Lots of interesting news around here. Will update you later!
Phlamingos Rock!
Congratulations to the Greedy Obstructionist Party. Voting for Romney/Ryan will cost you $2,000.00 a year in increased taxes. The money will be spent on welfare for the wealthiest Americans. Thank you for supporting your loss of money.
Say good bye to Affordable Health Care insurance, Medicare, and a big piece of your Social security benefits too. Slashing public education funds will also make it very difficult for children to get "lower" education. However, the national debt will begin to be paid down in just forty short years.
Ryan's Budget was soundly condemned by the Catholic Bishops Conference as immoral. The Nuns On a Bus are also protesting the draconian dumping of programs for the weak, wrecked, wanting, worn, and wounded.
R&R, the candidates from hell.
Two words...
FRIED BUTTER!!!!!!
Fried Kool-Aid!
Yum!
Deep Fried Twinkies !!!
ZOMBIES for ROMNEY/RYAN 2012 !!!!

pp,
Steamed cholesterol, yummmm!
bcwc,
Gotta love me! i am the queen of pink and a terrific cook!
Fried Beer. One thing I like about Texas, other than the Sixth St. music selection in Austin, is the fried food contest at the state fair! Oh and the upcoming F1 race!
Phine, I have had 72% dark chocolate covered bacon. It was Great!!!!
I would have preferred to hear the candidate speak. I not really interested in what a bunch of hecklers have to say.
Good fo you Lisa s-1749992. Don't let these clowns feed you their commercials.
Read the Budget.
Thanks, Caesar Augustus-
Lisa,
I heard Ryan 10 inute speech on MPR while I was driving home from work.
He talked about liking state fairs, touched on the drought bill the Congress had passed, but did not mention the Farm Bill that has not be reconciled between the House and Senate. He praised Romney and they will fix Washington.
I am sure you can hear it again on NPR web site.
Hope you had a great summer Lisa .
Here in MN it is beginning to end, with cool , cool, nights.
Northstar, I am having a wonderful summer. Thank you.
About the same time Romney releases his tax returns - when hell freezes over. You've got to wonder if the R-Team is lacking the intelligence to answer these questions or lacking simple transparency.
The policies they want to have, they can't articulate......it's a secret!
Transparency?....Never, 'cause mums the word!
Ursula, I can't believe that statement. I really can't. We'll get into all these policy things later...?
Don't forget that Romney considers legitimate questions and hard facts to be mud slinging. He gets upset when President Obama raises real issues in his speeches and political ads. Sensitive guy, Mitt.
Paul Ryan has sat on the Congressional Finance's Committee for years now. Ryan was the point man for every piece of legislation G.W.BUSH pass in his 8 years in office.
He help Bush pass a 800 Billion Plan D Medical drug bill that wasn't added to the budget.
Ryan also help fixed it where Bush didn't have to add his trillion dollar private war in Iraq to the federal budget.
Ryan says he needs to save the USA from Obama when Ryan have been part of this country deficit problem for over 14 year now.
Dragon, exactly.
The Republicans ARE THE PROBLEM, particularly Mitt and Ryan.
Well, here's another pretty face with nothing behind it. The scary thing about the ticket--Romney doesn't really think anything and Ryan thinks only he has the real-deal ideas.
LOL...Romney doesn't want to talk about Bain, his taxes, Olympics, term as Gov of Mass..and now doesn't want to talk about his VPs budget.
Romney picked Ryan, whose claim to fame is his right wing budget....and now Romney doesn't want to talk about it.
So Dragon Why don't the democrats talk about all the Bain contributions they take?
http://articles.boston.com/2012-05-23/nation/31814221_1_obama-campaign-mitt-romney-romney-claims
http://vote.sigfig.com/org/Bain%20Capital/-
ksw: So what is your point???? The donations were from employees of Bain, not the company itself. An employee can donate to whomever they want...they know President Obama and Dems are better for America.
dragon,
I think the only thing Romeny wants to talk about are the size of things.
The trees are the right height, the streets of London are narrow, winding, old...
Uh Dragon you don't know much about the corporate world if you think it was only the lowly employees.
In all the years I have watched and worked on political campaigns, I have NEVER seen such a pathetic campaign as Romney's.
He has chosen a running mate who is so vicious that even his own Church disapproves of his sinful desire to throw every elderly, ill, and poor person on the growing trash heap of the ultra rich:
This sick, selfish f-ck Ryan isn't qualified to wipe the feet of an elderly, ill, or homeless person- the Nuns know it, and so do the American people.
It's a good thing that idiot Romney will lose this election- maybe even better for Romney that the rest of us. If Ryan ever got "one heartbeat away" from the presidency, the president in question would be well advised to sleep with one eye open.
The radical lefties in here cheer for ignorant hecklers who interrupt a speech by Romney and Ryan. (Imagine their response if Obama is heckled)..
The same rude crude radical protesters who showed up at the Wisconsin State House, and turned off the voting public so much that they gave Governor Scott Walker a mandate!
Keep it up ! The more extremist radicals show their true stripes, the more surely , Wisconsin will vote Republican..
Like how you predicted for months your vaginal probe Governor would be the VP pick! lmao!
Sorry Probe-Boy, you have ZERO credibility!
bob: President Obama has been heckled many times...and handled it with cool, calm and as a professional.....Ryan just chuckled like a little girl...must get that from Romney.
Right wingers showed up at political rallies with guns showing....with posters that defamed President Obama....so get off your high horse.
When a reporter interrupted President Obama....Repubs said that was OK.
Just take a look at some of the Tea Party videos....now there are some radical, rude, crude people!
Dragon,
Just take a look at some of the Tea Party videos....now there are some radical, rude, crude people!
Source please.
i can link some from the occumovement. those are predominently left leaning voters, when they feel motivated to vote that is.
How's these little jewels for starters, let me know if you need some more, plenty more where those came from;

How proud you tea baggers must be!
feisty do we need to go there. After all your sides stupid failed movement with Occupy anything but a job failed and was full of decay and barbarism. After all Obama endorsed it. You site ONE incident where there 15 equivalents in the Occumovement. How proud you Vandals must be
Feisty,
That's not the Tea Party Movement, I don't know anyone that would approve of those signs. That's just wrong.
Excuse ME?
Cup cake... THAT is the tea baggers movement whether YOU want to acknowledge it or not!
You asked for sources, I gave them to you, continue to keep your head between your sweet-cheeks for cryin out loud!
Honey... denial isn't a river in Egypt!
Welcome to the modern day GNOP, when the racists mainstreamed CRAZY and YOU & your ilk embraced it!
Give it a big hug...
@thetotas - either you're lying or floating down that Egyptian river. I went to a Tea Party gathering back in 2009 just to see what it was all about. Wanted to see first hand what all of the hoopla was about and if it was really as bad as people said it was. I was not disappointed. There was enough hate there to spread over a million sandwiches. Liberal use of the N word and talk of taking back America by force if necessary. They do try and discourage openly racist signs and will ask people politely to take them away. They're dumb but not stupid. They know folks with video on their phones will put them on YouTube. The movement is well organized and not at all grass roots as they want you to believe. It's was formed for one reason and one reason only, to deflect, defame and destroy President Barack Obama. The issues they protest were there for several decades and never mentioned until a man of different color and heritage won the White House. You can deny all you want. But the truth is what it is.
Kenya Pack n Leave - wonder who this re-reg is?
LOVELY!
Another recently banned re-reg chimes in! lol
Exactly what part of BANNED do you NOT comprehend?
Participating here is a privledge... NOT a right!
Tickoty... tock... @!$%#!
Learn to follow some rules!
Thanks for the source, but I have been to Tea Party rallies and I know people that are part of that movement, and I have never seen any signs like that. Have you ever attended a Tea Party rally?
My head is up, and I looking forward to the election in November.
FYI - I am not a racists, but go ahead call what you will, I know who I am, and I know what you are.
Tonybeeerm,
I am neither, and you are full of it.
Good evening.
thetotas, consider the source and their avatars. i swear to god they share the same damn brain. Tony has never been to a teaparty rally. Dont confuse KKK with Teaparty, toni. Hey toni, didnt you find it odd to have to wear white sheets and hoods at your 'teaparty rally'. Cant wait for the debates and obama defend his debacle of an administration
thetotas
Oh really, try out Kenya Pack n Leave above.
Cat,
Just because he referenced Kenya you automatically call him a Tea Party Member?
You sound very comfortable labeling people without a shred of evidence. So what does that make you?
Bob in VA - you mean like the crude ones the GOP hires to heckle Obama -like those???
Obama/Biden 2012
Where are the jobs? People like you lost them, Mr. Ryan! People like you that gave us an overstuffed upper class and penniless middle class lost those jobs; people like you that don't think banks need regulation; people like you that won't do anything to fix the housing mess; people like you that want government to continue to cut - just like England has - so that we can have a double dip just like England. If anybody knows how to kill an economy, it's people like you Mr. Ryan. Partisan pricks like you think that losing hundreds of thousands of jobs every month - like Bush's last year - is somehow preferable to 150,000 net job gains every month (which we have had for the past 30 months). Partisan whacked out Austrian fascist economists reading wingnuts like you think that the purity of capitalism is more important than healthcare for children and old women in wheelchairs. Get used to being heckled.
Get used to being heckled.
Great post BeyondDEMOCRAT. Ryan is what is wrong with America. No question about it.
People like Paul Ryan don't want to help facilitate a growing economy in which jobs can be created. What's worse, it's not just because they want to make President Obama look bad, it's because they are still aiming for their ultimate goal, that of "starving the beast" (government). If the economy is growing the government takes in more revenue, thus delaying the collapse and their complete control. It's treason.
Okay. Maybe someone else who is a better writer could put this in terms that would not sound so paranoid. But just remember, just because you think people are out to get you, it doesn't mean that they aren't.
I am excited about this duo, finally they are talking about issues.
Its a good thing!
you know i have asked to discuss the issues today but all i do is get collapsed and 'ridiculed'. So i have to stand up to the bullies and stoop to their level. someone has to. Now i know what it is like to hang out with a bunch of somali pirates. the debates are coming and i think it will be interesting to see how it turns out
Caesar - you didn't REALLY post that did you? You who do nothing but berate people all day long? Can we say hypocrite????? LOL!
I cant wait for the debates, I think they will be very telling. A big plus, the media wont be able to add their bias spin.
seeking i resent that. that simply is another untrue statement however with certain posters yes, i sink to that level. fight fire with fire as the old saying goes.
The media will try unsucessfully and with sour economy, high unemployment and rising food/gas prices it really is going to come down to that. Tax returns, horses, college transcripts dont heal the country.
Ceasar: I hear you, but, I have read several of your post, and you get caught up in the generalizations, name call and ridicule others. I try very hard to ask questions and not belittle those who disagree with me. If you want to discuss the issues, ask pertinent questions and accept the answers you get. If you disagree, acknowledge that and agree to disagree. Sugar attracts more flies than vinegar, hence; treat others with respect and they will treat you in kind.
I cant wait for the debates, I think they will be very telling. A big plus, the media wont be able to add their bias spin.
Me either totas - Even Faux News won't be able to save NitMitt or Eddie's asses when they're up on that podium facing the whole nation on primetime......
Obama/Biden 2012
mainly hornets and harpies here, sugar has no affect. like i said, you have to see who I address like that and see how they post all day long, then you'll understand.
once these brigand posters tone down their dislike of any and everything RIGHT of Castro, then perhaps significant discussion might occur but dont count on it.
Romney-Ryan 2012: The Herman & Eddie Munster Ticket
By karoli
“As I write, the only thing lacking is official confirmation by the Romney campaign that Mittens will adopt young Paul Ryan as his running mate. It would appear as though Mittens' disaster-laden campaign of the past few weeks has prompted his billionaires to lay down the law and require Ryan as the Very Serious Running Mate.
Ah, yes. Paul Ryan, "zombie-eyed granny starver" extraordinaire. The guy who loved Ayn Rand until he didn't.
Here's a nice video of Paul Ryan. I'll bet it would make a great commercial, this lovefest with Glenn Beck.
Paul Ryan is a disaster, but that doesn't mean the Villagers won't treat him as a Very Serious VP Candidate Who Will Give Mittens A Much-Needed Bump. They will treat him that way. Meanwhile, the Very Serious conservatives will rejoice and forget Mitt is their candidate, substituting Paul Ryan in their minds for the first name on the ballot, and the Kochs will open their wallets wider for Their Black-Haired Boy. See, for example, the fawning by Chuck Todd and David Gregory over Ryan As Visionary.”
I suppose that's enough bashing for one post. (Can Ryan ever be bashed enough?) Let's review some of the facts on Paul Ryan and whether he's a good fit with Mitt:
Also? President Obama turns him into a whining, sniveling wimp.
I have a theory about why Ryan is the Boy Wonder, and no, it's not the one that says Mitt is really Herman Munster and Ryan is his sixth son, Eddie. I think Mitt's billionaires were tired of his very terrible, awful campaign and decided they'd better get the base fired up before they gave up entirely. And so word was passed to Mitt: It's Ryan or we're done with you.
After that, all that was left was tapping Tagg to fire TPaw and Rob Portman. Mitt seems to be quite good at delegating tasks, even firing people.
Over on the left, there is much rejoicing about Mitt's the billionaires' choice for the veep slot, and for good reason. After all, for eighteen months we've been trying to get the general electorate to see the do-nothing Congress in all its glory, from the debt ceiling debacle to the Ryan budget monstrosity to the zillionth meaningless vote to climb into women's reproductive systems. Now it will be on display for all to see, naked, fat and ugly.
A few other random thoughts. Does anyone giggle at the thought that Bill Kristol picked Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan? How will Newt Gingrich cover his tracks? Has anyone asked Paul Ryan about Ponzi schemes, particularly those he benefits from?
Who does Eddie Munster's hair? Quick, hire them for Pretty Paul's campaign appearances."
Job1 - great post!
I'm outta here guys! Have a great evening!
Bump on the post Job 1.
The fawning by Chuck Todd and David Gregory over Ryan as a visionary.
Job1, I can't tell you how many people brought this up to me today. I didn't see as I turned the channel, because I knew it was coming.
btw, did you see the headlines in Florida?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/08/12/1119510/-PANIC-MSM-Romney-is-in-Big-Big-Trouble
Yeah Pat, It doesn't look good for Mitten's. The Senior citizen group is the only group he hasn't pissed off, until this weekend. Is there any groups left that Mitten's hasn't pissed off? I can't think of any.....
Obama/Biden 2012
GT, nope it doesn't. Mitt without a doubt was in panic mode. Because he has nothing and he knows it.
Someone needs to hand the two of them a tissue for clean up!
I haven't seen Gotcha Gregory that excited since the John Edwards story broke!
At least he is rubbing his hands and NOT something else!
Great post Job1. My take on the situation: Romney doesn't play well with the ultra-right TeaPublican crowd (read Republican base, or TP). Romney knows he doesn't stand a chance in Hades without the base to back him up. He needs to get them to the poles in November, so he picks a TP VP. Who else is he going to pick?
Palin - been there done that, ubber fail.
Bachman - female, check..... bat sh!t crazy... double check
West - afro-american, check.... double bat sh!t crazy... triple check
Santorum, Gingrich, or other contenders.... not after the things said in the debates. Way too easy for Dems to use their own words to condemn Romney.
Where else would Romney turn to energize the base? The Koch brothers probably had some input to this choice. ;-)
One poster stated to me: "Then let's address the cost of colleges and universities and hold their feet to the fire in justifying costs -- the state run institutions at least -- instead of throwing more money at them."
I would like to know what the republican plans and/or policies for this issue is. My daughters are working part-time, going to college part-time; paying their own way without debt. What are the republican ideas of helping the young people get thru college without a huge debt. My kids are spending their savings accounts on college, and can barely afford to live. They are part of the middle class too. How do the republicans expect the younger generation to make it in this world, by giving to corporations and the very rich, and not help the middle class.
Making Pell Grants less available, and student loans are getting harder to get and qualify for, how are the middle class younger generation to get ahead.
What I haven't heard is the republican plans and policies to help the younger generation to get ahead in this economy and country without help. A lot of middle class parents have bills of their own and can't pay their kids college way. I have not heard any plans or policies from the republicans that are addressing this problem. All I hear is about welfare receipts and the very rich; what about the middle??? Any answers out there.
JackieK,
The only comment I have ever heard about what you ask is" let them ask their parents for a loan to pay for college". Mr Romney uttered the answer, which I believe just goes to show how out of touch he really is. He probably thinks your average middle class family can produce the funds for college easily like he could without sacrifice.
Who knows after the GOP convention is may be a Ryan/Romney ticket. Either way they are going to lose.
it is not just the old people that are upset !! 40 to 52 year olds have already put in 20 to 30 years of payments into medicare !! they are the ones that would really get screwed !!
Jackie -
Education is the last thing the right wing wants the middle class to have. Its very dangerous to them. Education is to progressive for them to handle. In the case of your daughters, their phylosophy is "Keep em barefoot and pregnant, and if they get outta hand, just whack em a few times with a Bible.
Obama/Biden 2012
GT,
Your little diatribe on what you think conservatives think about education is hilarious. Actually, your commenting on anyone's view of education is specious. Based on your spelling prowess and punctuation wizardry, I imagine you never made it past the 5th grade. Perhaps 11th grade in a mid-tier public school.
Yet you propose to speak for millions of people. The audacity of a dope!
Jackie,
Thanks for your post of real life situations that belie a line item of "reduce the eligibility for pell grants" in the Ryan/Romney budget plan.
their supporters retort"lets hold their feet to the fire, not thro money at it" speaks volumes.
the tea party formerly known as the GOP wants only to shrink government programs to nothing, big on privatization of man government services and cut taxes to the wealthy.
Thanks posters....I try to look at both parties objectively and compare policies and plans to each other, then decide. Right now, the republicans are not relating and stating anything to my position. I am a middle class voter, homeowner, working full time, with 2 college students. I have never taken or been qualified for so called welfare(food stamps, reduced lunches, college grants or tuition reduction). I have been a single mom working full time and providing for my kids. I feel I don't fit into the narrative right now, I'm neither rich or poor, I'm middle class. I would like the Romney/Ryan supporters to discuss with me what their party/policies will do for me, help me out.
All I'm hearing is welfare recipients taking from the government and never working, or the very rich, making millions of dollars. What about a family making between 40,000 and 100,000 dollars a year. Republicans aren't or won't talk about us.
Good point, Jackie. And I understand completely what you are worried about with college costs having put 3 of my cherubs through college. HUGE increases in tuition EVERY year!
But,hang on, they do get out and become gainfully employed.
What Romney said about college costs is that kids should borrow money from their parents. That is how divorced he is from the realities of most working families.
JackieK, independent
They do not feel that it is necessary at the moment as they are quite busy trying to draw in and placate the various factions of their base. Do not dismay, lip service to the middle class and veterans will be their endgame.
It is hard I know, but do all you can to get those kids through college.
Newday: Thanks for your support. I find it very telling that I have posted almost the exact same post twice, and the only response I get is liberal, Obama supporters. Not one single response from a republican leaning, Romney/Ryan supporter. Says a whole lot to me, an independent, middle class voter. I'm an equal opportunist, and will give both parties the benefit of doubt. I find it unusual that when an independent wants specifics to policies/plans for them, all you get is the Obama/democratic responses. I'll tell you right now, I much prefer the civil, rational, and intelligent responses I get from democrats than I do the generalization, name calling I get from the republicans.
Thanks for your support Blackcatwhitecat. I appreciate it. It's not easy, but I want my kids to get a college education without a boatload of debt. It will take several years yet, but they are determined and so am I as their parent. Thanks again.
Jackie: have your daughters HAUNT the financial aid offices for grants and scholarships that are available. You would be surprised what is out there. Also, there are some professions that might provide some loan payback help, depending on the state you are in.
It really does get better. I remember being totally overwhelmed by at as the cost seem to go up with no real reason provided. Not to mention the cost of textbooks.
Good for you, raising daughters that KNOW that education is important.
Jackie: Another possibility is to find an internship or temporary employment in the field they wish to pursue. A place to start. Once a fully employee (if they are fortunate enough to get to that point) many companies will pay for or give tuition reimbursement. My group recently hired 2 temps. If they work out, after 6 months they will be made full employees. College tuition will be reimbursed at 80% of cost if the get a grade of B or better in a field related to their job.
Good luck!
I see so many who know so little. First of all if you are lucky enough to have a job in this lousy economy, then thank the so called rich person who gave you the job. Just because someone is rich they owe you something? Work for it like they did because they DID BUILD THAT. Second, why don't you left wing morons read the health care bill that states the government WILL decide based on your age if you are worth saving when it comes to your health. Last time I checked, this was still a free America unless Obama gets re elected. Third, Obama has no record to run on and has done nothing but hurt this economy. It is Obama that blocked the keystone pipeline, stopped oil drilling in the gulf just for starters. lied to the American people about the UN small arms treaty and uses Clinton to do his dirty work. Tells the Russian president he will have more flexibility after the election when a Russian nuclear sub sat off the gulf coast undetected as they say for over 2 weeks. Many have served this country and gave their lives for the very freedom Obama is trying to take away. What a discrase. Our founding fathers wrote the constitution to keep one man from having total power and this president should be impeached for violating it just on using excecutive powers giving illegals save haven off the backs of working Americans. Shame on those that support socialism and I have complete faith that gun owners alone mass in numbers alone to vote against this dictator some call the president. I respect the office but the man who puts his feet up on the presidential desk has not earned respect and you sure don't bow before leaders of other countries. Romney will destroy Obama in the debates and I can't wait to be an extra vote that will send a uhaul to my whitehouse come November to move his sorry but back to his crime ridden state. I am not a huge Romney fan but anybody will be better than Obama who uses the presidential jet for a vacation every 3 months when I can't afford a vacation and haven't for 3 years now.
Ryan better get used to it because he is going to be heckled quite a bit. I myself will heckle the S.O.B. if he ever comes around here. Ryan -the male Michele Bachman or better yet " The Weeniemobile Driver"
Paul Ryan is another Republican DISHONEST HACK (Ayn Rand Disciple) about the Function of Government to those Low Information voters he appeals to.
He has SUCKED at the Government Teats for his life's Security and Education, because his Dad died while he was young, and his Family, and yet he wants to HARM EVERY OTHER American out there who has paid into the Very System He is SUCKING off of for a Good Retirement, Health Care, Education, you name it for his Family.
Somehow Government is Bad for everyone except the Paul Ryan Family. I want him to give up his CUSHY HEALTH CARE, RETIREMENT, AND PERKS off of my Tax Dollars.
Especially SINCE he is the DARLING of the Republican Party on Fiscal Responsibility.
His attacks on Women's Rights, I want to know why he and his wife are NOT ON BABY #10.
I hope the Voters see through this man. Romney is no better. He too has been aided by Government and Taxpayers when he and his Friends GUTTED a Business and walked away with millions on the Taxpayers left on the hook to subsidize those retirements and give Romney Tax Breaks for killing jobs for Americans.
I want all of those Republicans who come to Ryan's Aid and low information voters who say that it won't affect anyone over 55 - NOT NOW, just Wait.
Do People really want to Privatize something they have paid into all of their Work lives to go into the HANDS OF WALL STREET and when they LOSE BILLIONS of your Money, and the Executives walk off with their Bonuses UNTOUCHED and their Asses are hauled in front of Congress all they can say IS OPPS.
I don't know about the "low information " Voters and those average working American who continue to vote Republicans AGAINST THEIR OWN INTEREST, but I say HELL NO!
What about the people who have paid into the Plan from just use Age 20 and they are now in their FORTY'S, WHAT IS THE RYAN PLAN going to do for them say SORRY. So Seniors encourage your young people that THE RYAN PLAN IS POISON FOR THEM ALSO.
Ryan living on the Government Teats, and while the Average American works regular JOBS, should give them ALL the answers they need TO SEE THAT THIS TICKET WILL BE A DISASTER FOR THIS COUNTRY.
Absolutely pathetic drivel.
Paul Ryan took his "hand up" from the govt after his dad died and took advantage of it. He didn't stay on public welfare as a way of life.
He is not trying to deny that to anyone. He is trying to preserve the system by reforming it. Social Security and Medicare is a tax to redistribute wealth to a certain portion of the populace. YOU ARE NOT PAYING INTO A RETIREMENT PLAN OR BUYING INSURANCE. YOU ARE PAYING A TAX. Get it? People who receive those services should be means tested before a dime is given to them.
The piper's calling fool, no more kicking the can down the road. Stop being one of those "low information voters" you are lamenting.
He's giving you a choice Medicare or voucher. If it doesn't work then you will vote them out. Right now it's not working because medicare is broke.
The US is 15 trillion isn the hole! Are you just concerned about yourself? What about the rest of the taxpaying citizens that are trying to raise a family and being taxed to poverty. While Obama preaches tax the rich, you can tax them 100% and it won't make a dent in the debt. Guess who's next? Those taxpayers making less than 200,000 a yr. We still won't put a dent in the debt. The only solution cut government. What part of it? Dept of Education(does nothing, the states control education), dept of energy(what energy do they produce?). The EPA and I won't give reasons here because the argument there is to large for this forum.
What are you doing to take care of yourself. Medicare and Social Security were desinged to help not totally sustain. If you squandered your earnings it's not my responsibility to support you, and yes life is unfair. Deal with it. You own your own life not the governement.
Conservative republican: What is the difference of Ryan taking advantage of Social Security to get a hand up, and the unemployed that was laid off from their job due to outsourcing/downsizing. Both are taking advantage of government help while getting back on their feet. Why do you label all those doing the same thing, as lazy, dependent welfare recipients. According your plans, the republican plans, Ryan would not get that help as a dependent, and those whose jobs were terminated due to no fault of their own, are just parasites on the government. You, sir, are not making any sense. It's ok for Ryan to take advantage of government help, but the rest of America, so sorry, you are parasites. Nice message.
Means test! I am making sense. Those who didn't pay into the system should take from those that did. It should be a separate budget for those that didn't pay because that would be an entitlement. Social Security is not an entitlement neith is medicare. These programs are there to compliment the freedom you had to plan for your retirement.
JackieK - The difference is when one pays into Social Security and dies, his children are eligible for draw from those benefits. Ryan used the money, that was rightfully his to spend anyway he wanted. He choose to use it for college instead of asking for government grants or loans. The people that lost their jobs also get government help through unemployment benefits, which their employer paid into. There is a big difference between unemployment benefits, Social Security benefits, and welfare.
As for college education, there is no requirement for the federal government to provide loans for people to go to college. However, the government provides loans and grants which now exceed one trillion dollars. The question is where is the money coming from for those in the future. Remember the US is currently over 16 Trillion in debt.
Instead of giving everyone who asks for grants and loans I feel it should depend on what course of study one wants to pursue. I believe science, medical, engineering should get priority over the Arts.
Excuse me. but I have been paying into these systems since I was working at 16 years old. I'm in my mid fifties, and Ryan's plan will directly effect me. I'm not 55 years old. What part of taxes out of my paycheck every payday is titled an entitlement. I agree with a means test for those whose investments and income from IRA's are above the threshold, but don't place me on a voucher system within the next 10 years and think I will be happy about it. I have retirement plans and IRA's, but have lost a lot due to the fluctuations of the stock market; mainly the hit in 2008.
sferet: Thanks for responding. I agree that using those benefits as college is not welfare and a good use of the money. I have no beef with that. What my beef is the republicans in general lumping any government handout or money as welfare, and lumping all recipients as lazy, welfare queens who are living off the government.
There are many different ways the government helps those who are without income, regardless of their circumstances. How difficult would Ryan have had it going and paying for college without the government assistance. This is the kind of rhetoric I don't like; generalizations of any government assistance as vulture, lazy, don't want to work, liberals/democrats. Middle America is for the most part, not these terms, but, use government assistance as a helping hand until they get back on their feet. Just like Ryan did.
Glad we could have a discussion without any name calling. I appreciate a civil discussion.
JackieK - Ryan and Romney have not called anyone welfare queens or government beggars. Don't take the posts you see here as the gospel. Do some research as to Ryans 2012 budget proposal. (Which is really moot because it was voted down). Ryan never got government assistance for college, he could have used that social security money for anything he wanted, (drugs, cars, girls, etc.,) but he choose to save it for college.
BTW, you say you are in your mid 50s but not yet 55. Ryans budget is not law therefore there is no change in current SS and Medicare policies. So you just might make the 55+ requirement. Besides in Ryan's 2012 individuals could choose to remain in the current plan regardless of age. I personally know a lot of young people, those in their 20s and 30s, that would like to have the choice of opting out of SS and Medicare. Ask the democrats what is their plan for saving Medicare, they don't have one, except to raise taxes and belittle Ryan's plan. When Ryan wrote his Budget he expected the Senate to do it's job and counter with their own budget and then both sides could reconcile the differences. But the Senate, under Democrats control refused.
Thanks for the information, it has been helpful and informative. Thanks also for having a decent, fact filled conversation; much appreciated. Now time for bed.
JackieK, That has been my TOTAL ARGUMENT with the Thinking of the Republican/TEA Party. Because People like to say it won't affect those 55 and over. I asked what about the people who go to work just in thier 20s and are now in their 40's we tell them to go to Hell that all they want are Freebies and Entitlements.
The Republicans have been given their Talking Points. They use the word 'ENTITLEMENT" like a Sledge Hammer to make their low information voters think they are giving people something they have earned. Those Same Low Information voters are in the same place as most Americans and they continue to vote AGAINST THEMSELVES voting Republican Anything in this Current Environment.
The Current GOP/TEA is looking to protect the RICH and Polluting Corporations at the expense of the people. That is their TRUE BASE AND CONSTITUENTS!
Once Wall Street has all of your Privatized Money, and they decide to PLAY WITH IT AND LOSE IT, what will they Say OPPS!
Thank you Jackie K for making my point.
The only point jackie made was he's just as liberal and just as uninformed as you are.
CR,
And I bet you are more informed than anyone else being "just a Conservative"? I think----Not!
Ryan is not killing Medicare but trying to make it last for generations to come. It's not an entitlement except those that paid nothing into it are getting it. The same with Social Security. The US is broke and something needs to be done to fix it. I will be dead by the time both programs are broke.
How about this: Let's get rid of the department of education, energy and the EPA to keep Social Security and medicare sound.
The department of education does nothing. The department of energy doesn't have a clue on how to power America, the oil comapanies do. The EPA are just a bunch of tree huggers....ask them all what kind of vehicles they drive?
Liberals are mentally sick when they can talk about clean energy but they will tell you not for me. Just ask thewm what kind of vehicles they drive? How big a house they have and the energy that they use. Any of them and they will lie through their teeth. I know because I ask those questions everytime they try to argue with me and believe me they try to skirt the questions.
OK....just to buy into that, I'm in my early fifties, and this does effect me. I don't want a voucher that won't be worth much, and more importantly, I don't want to be at the mercy of insurance companies when I'm in my seventies. Do you really think a seventy year old is going to get a good deal from insurance companies when the time comes. Get real.
The department of education is important due to the fact right now, we are sorely lacking in competency in math and science globally. Do you really want the states, and local governments to uphold and enhance education???
When the water you drink, food you eat, are contaminated by poisons, and e. coli, and you want the person responsible to be accountable, who is going to do that??? The corporation that is contaminating your food and water. What agency has gone up against those corporations? Guess you live in a truly utopia, because in the last few years, these things have been happening.
We have poured trillions of dollars in education since the 60's what has that got us, a substandard graduate. Do you understand what you are saying? We have e.coli now, who's taking the blame, who's going to jail? Governement is going to be responsible OH please!
No, George, the corporations are being held responsible for the e. coli. Corporations are also being held responsible for contamination of water, being made to clean the sites up. No government funds. Why are republicans not holding corporations responsible for their mistakes??? Education needs to be encouraged, and students need to have a government that stands behind them, not about firing teachers because of union and public servants.
My humble opinion is, elected politicians should be held with the same standards as the private sector. That means, they need to get off the public dole and have the same wages, health insurance plans and policies as the rest of us, along with retirement. Same IRA's and restrictions of amount contributed as the rest of America, no public retirement plans and pensions.
OMG jackie.
Our science and math scores began going down after Carter went full bore with the Dept of education. The govt has failed miserably in this regard. Yet, the taxpayer is still forced to finance this boondoggle at the clip of 120 billion per year.
