Paul Ryan welcomed home with massive rally in Wisconsin

Jeffrey Phelps / AP

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan a welcome home rally Sunday, Aug. 12, in Waukesha, Wis.

WAUKESHA, Wis.-- The largest crowd of the campaign so far for a Mitt Romney event welcomed home favorite son Rep. Paul Ryan at a massive rally here in the congressman's district Sunday night, pushing the GOP's vice presidential nominee to tears as he took the stage, setting off cheers with two simple words:

"Hi mom."

With that, voice cracking, Ryan showed his Wisconsin credentials to a crowd the Romney campaign hopes will be emblematic of the charismatic congressman's support in the Badger state, a reliably Democratic enclave the Republican candidate hopes to turn red this fall.

"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, a little Spotted Cow, Leinie's, and some Miller," Ryan said, mentioning two well-known local beers. "I was raised on the Packers, Badgers, Bucks and Brewers. I like to hunt here, I like to fish here, I like to snowmobile here. I even think ice fishing is interesting."

"I'm a Wisconsinite through and through," Ryan said to cheers from a crowd which contained many members of Ryan's extended family, and which the campaign estimated to be more than ten thousand strong, likely the largest turnout ever for a Romney event.

The energy generated by Ryan seemed to inspire the man at the top of ticket, who took on a heckler midway through his own remarks, then turned the moment into an indictment of President Obama's campaign, who's tactics have riled Romney in recent weeks.

Obama gives Ryan a double-edged welcome to the race

"You see young man, this group here is respectful of other people’s rights to be  heard," Romney said as the heckler was removed. "And you ought to find yourself a different place to be disruptive, because here we believe in listening to people with dignity and respect."

"There’s no question but if you follow the campaign of Barack Obama, he’s going to do everything in his power to make this the lowest, meanest negative campaign in history. We’re not going to let that happen," Romney continued. "This is going to be a campaign about ideas about the future of America. This is a campaign about greatness, about America’s future for your children, for the world. Mr. President take you campaign out of the gutter, let’s talk about the real issues that America faces."

Romney and Ryan were introduced by two other leading figures in the Republican party nationally, both born and raised here in Wisconsin: RNC Chairman Reince Preibus and Governor Scott Walker, who recently survived a recall election and has become a rallying point for Republicans nationwide.

"Isn't it great to have a cheesehead on the ballot?" Walker asked the crowd.
On Monday, Ryan will campaign solo for the GOP ticket for the first time, attending the state fair in Iowa, setting up something of a showdown in the Hawkeye state, with President Obama hitting the stump in Western Iowa then as well.

I actually feel sorry for someone like you. How can you live with a free spirit inside of yourself if you are waiting for the likes of Obama and John Roberts to "grant" them to you?

Good thing our Founding Fathers didn't wait for a king to "make their rights constitutional" and even better that this country wasn't founded by spineless liberals!

Ryan authored a long-term plan to keep our entitlement programs sustainable for our grandchildren and their children without bankrupting our country in the process. This election is simple. If you are selfish and only care about yourself and your generation, you should vote for Obama. IF you care about your descendants and future generations, then vote Romney/Ryan.

Okay let me lay it down real easy for the weak minded.....Obama has a plan. His plan is to tax the rich with new income taxes. To tax the middle class with Obamacare, and do nothing about spending except cut defense spending (while the world is set for an apocalypse.

Romney and Ryan. Have a plan to save medicare and Social Security so the young have a chance to collect what they paid in. It changes the broken program that will not exist past 2019.

So the choice is NO PLAN, or a CHANGE that is real??????? SMH. seems easy RIGHT?

No, Dev,

Ryan's plan is to END MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY. If you are under 56 years old, you will be screwed.

These guys are LIARS who will cut taxes for the rich and destroy the things that have protected our retired citizens.

What insurance company do you think will insure you when you turn 65 and Medicare is no longer there? Because with Romney's plan, health insurance companies will once again be able to do whatever the hell they want- throw people off their rolls, cancel your policy when you are sick and god help you if you have ANY pre-existing condition- THEY WILL NOT INSURE YOU.

Once again, a hundred thousand Americans each and every year will go BANKRUPT because they got sick. Don't think it won't be you. All it takes is ONE ACCIDENT. Oh, you might get Medicaid- after you give up all of your life savings.

I think your mistake was in thinking literally "everyone" in his district hate him. He's not popular, but of course he's not 100% unfavorable.

While he has been reelected by comfortable margins, his approval rating statewide remains mixed: 38% of Wisconsin voters view him favorably while 33% do not, making it unclear whether Ryan can deliver the state for Romney."

Ryan plan, kills Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, cuts Veterans benefits, cuts food Stamps to the starving children and families who lost their jobs because of Bush and repubs crashing the surplus and economy. Romney plan, raises taxes on the middle class and poor to give more tax breaks to the rich like Romney. Repubs just blocked the bill to end tax breaks for jobs that corporations are taking over seas, repubs block same bill that gives tax breaks to companies that would bring jobs back to America. Repubs want to privatize the Post Office for the greedy rich, which would end delivery and service to thousands of small towns. Repubs create voter suppression laws to prevent the elderly \, poor, and young from voting. Repubs and Rove say if they can remove 1% of voters in 9 states they can rig election to win. Repubs for a worse tomorrow today!

First the republicans were going to kill social security and medicare and now you want us to believe they want to save it. That is until they are elected, just another con to buy voters.

This is like the jobs they promised in 2010 the ones that never happened. But a lot of voter suppression and the killing of women's rights and vaginal probes happened but no jobs.

So now we are suppose to believe the republicans new promises after they couldn't keep the last ones.

By the way Romney already ran on jobs and couldn't produce them that time either when governor.

Most of all mitt the twit isn't man enough to produce his tax returns.

Romney called the Ryan budget marvelous, said he would sign it if president but now it is a bit too detailed and wants to distance himself from it. Typical Mitt has to be on both sides of every issue or he doesn't feel at home.

What a joke that this is the man you republicans can look at us with a straight face and call him a leader.

#1.27 - Sun Aug 12, 2012 11:18 PM EDT

Michael,

I am a Centrist, not a Liberal, and I am also an Atheist so God does not apply to me. If God gives us our rights then those who have no god do not have rights. Does that sound correct to you? No to me.

The only thing that gives us rights in this country is the Constitution and it is not based off of any religious ideology but, instead, philosophical ones. Philosophy does not wear rose-tinted glasses like religions do. This is why things like the Constitution apply to everyone equally when those people obtain the right to claim those rights.

In a religion, what has been said stays that way until end end of that religion or it is changed by the worries of old men in skirts. The Constitution also changes, but in response to stimuli from society. In a way you could say the Constitution evolves as time goes on.

Originally the Constitution only applied to White males in its entirety. As time went on Blacks and Women became able to claim all of the rights granted to them by the Constitution. As did other races and minorities. The next evolution of the Constitution is going to see Homosexuals getting all of their civil rights.

Religions do not evolve in this manner. They evolve to suit themselves and not the whole of society. For example the Pope wants more to be done to deal with the Homosexual problem. He tells the Vatican to tell their Nuns to start spread the word that Homosexuals are deviants who go against God's commandment. The Nuns, who are doing Jesus' work, say wait a second, we already are doing the work we are supposed to and now you want us to stop and do something that was not among Jesus' teachings? The Vatican replies, paraphrased, just do as we tell you to.

Religions do not change in anyway that is meaningful. If they did they would not be able to be so grossly misused by the likes of the Taliban, the West-Borough Baptist Church, and all of the other abortion/Homosexual/other religion hate groups.

The reason we see the word "God" everywhere in our Government is because religion was a much larger part of their everyday lives back then. These days religion is a dying horse, people are learning more each year that organized religion is nothing but a scam and that it is not needed to bleieve in God. Many each year either choose to go Agnostic or Atheist, at the very least the no longer attend church weekly. Congregations have been shrinking each and every year.

God is just a word, there is no power behind it. It is a descriptive word used to describe a being that may or may not exist but whom has never been seen, ever, not in any credible way at least (for the record near death experiences are not reliable, what ever people see as they die is just their brain releasing various chemicals that induce hallucinations as they shut down).

This country was built on the Constitution not on God. But when you have traitors like Dick Cheney calling it a piece of paper to be stepped on at your slightest inconvenience, it is not surprising to me that the Modern GOP has no more faith in it.

I have more faith in the Constitution then I do in a being that may or may not exist. The Constitution is real, you can go and look at it. It is not subject to rumors, speculation, or other unprovable suppositions. God is the opposite, he/she can be changed at the will of the Pope. If he so chose to he could reinstate the Old Testament as the proper scriptures to be living your life by. If God cannot speak for himself then why should I believe that some old codger knows what God's will is? I am supposed to believe that the Pope can talk to God but no one else can? Does the Pope of antennas in his Miter? Maybe that would explain the funny shape.

No, I do not put trust i something that has no voice and that cannot be proven to exist. I do not trust blindly in things like that because that is how you are deceived by others who prey on people who do.

But yeah, sit behind your screen and fire off crap like you have been. I bet you would not have the balls to do it face to face with someone. That s one of the problems of the Internet, anonymity makes people feel that their ego's are bigger than they really are; it is also known as an e-penis.

When people say that rights come from God, generally they mean that they are "inalienable" as it says in the Declaration of Independence. What they are saying is that individual rights are part of the package that comes with being human. No matter how hard Barrack Obama may try, he cannot take my rights away. No matter what laws are passed to abrogate my rights, I will still have them and will fight for them. I will kill anybody who tries to destroy the rights of the American people. Individual rights exist because free men cling to them. Individual rights are destroyed by governments, not provided by them.

expat,

Perhaps you should clarify your position as it pertains to "[killing] anybody who tries to destroy the rights of the American people."

I'm well aware of the meaning of the word "kill," but can you explain precisely what you mean by the word "destroy"?

Are you daring to suggest that a constitutionally empowered and democratically elected representative government hasn't the right to pass legislation which might be perceived by YOU as a threat to YOUR civil liberties? That YOU somehow possess an inalienable right to take the law into YOUR own hands simply out of a belief that YOUR particular freedoms are under assault?

Where and when in the heck are YOU living? Mississippi, 1963?

If you DO believe these things, sir, YOU and NOT THE GOVERNMENT become the threat to our shared civil liberties, YOU become the danger, and YOU become the one with the target on your back.

No domestic terrorist and cold-blooded murderer like James Earl Ray, Timothy McVeigh or Scott Roeder shall EVER be allowed to dictate the definition of freedom for myself or any thinking American.

Tone down your rhetoric, expat, before this government of the people, by the people, and for the people has to take the necessary precautions to protect the people from the likes of you.

There appears to be quite a few intellectual midgets on this thread who are laboring under the delusion that Romney will benefit from having Ryan as his sidekick. Not that Mitt had a chance in hell of winning in the first place, but with Ryan hanging around his neck like an anchor ol' Etch-A-Sketch will collapse even more quickly than he has been. Ryan is running off senior voters just as the GOP has alienated women, union workers, Latinos, African-Americans, gays and lesbians, and moderates. Romney's utterly failed efforts will be taught in poli sci classes in universities across the country for years to come as an example of how not to run a campaign.

Obama is a war criminal and he should be impeached.

Obama has:

Signed the NDAA bill into law allowing the assassination of any us citizen without trial (yes, I know it's been around for a long time but Obama signed it into law even though it's unconstitutional)

Allowed 30,000 Spy drones to be flown over American skies (Unconstitutional, Against the Fourth Amendment).

Obama has signed over 1000 Executive Orders since he took office (Thanks to that, it's now illegal to collect rain water)

Obama has killed hundreds of innocent people (including 3 Americans) with drone strikes he has ordered in Pakistan And Yemen.

Obama has raised the National debt Nearly $5 TRILLION.

Obama has allowed almost 1 Million ILLEGAL aliens to become legal citizens (thanks to those he allowed to become citizens, they have committed 19 murders and 142 sex crimes)

Lied About all of His 2008 Campaign Promises Including the One Where He said he campaigned in 57 states.

Google Search "Dreams from my REAL father" and you'll see, Obama's father was a failed communist who's dream was to DESTROY America, at age 18, Obama went to a MARXIST school.

Mitt Romney has or will:

Has made Millions in an Abortion Business.

Will sell jobs over seas.

Will go to war with any Country he wants to without Congressional Approval (he says).

Both the Republican party and Democratic party are really the same thing now.

You know who we need for President? Gary Johnson, he is the Libertarian Presidential Canidate, he wants to End the IRS, End the Fed, End useless Government Agencies likes the Department of Homeland Security. He is Against wars. You are probably thinking "Why vote for him? He has no chance.", he has polled in Nearly %10 and needs %15 to Delegate Obama.

And where is it stated in Mr. Romney's plans to take away Social Security and Medicare (which are both running out of funds thanks to the last 30 years of mismanagement by our government) and to give trillions to the wealthy? I must have missed all of that. Then again, I don't listen to the msm and believe every word. Please provide source where I can find this information. Thank you and have a nice day.

      Star

The Poll you quote was a Fox paid for poll done by a little known Democrat Polling company that used 44% Democrats (even in the depression democrats did not exceed 40% registered democrats in a turnout) and 35% Republicans.

Nationwide, in 2008 Obama won under the strength of a 6 point Democrat advantage in turnout. In 2010, the Democrats lost the house and barely escaped with a small majority in the senate when only a 3 point turnout advantage. Obama's popularity is now lower than even 2010 and you want me to accept a democrat stuffed poll result.

The only way Obama can get a 9 point advantage in turnout is if he stuffs the ballot box with illegals and dead people!

      George,

You brought up an interesting idea, one that I have toyed with. Some part of me wants to see Romney get elected and see if he completely fails and the country does go down the drain and then come back on NV and see what these RWNJ posters have to say then.

On the other hand that would be bad for everyone and I cannot justify putting a personal wish ahead of what is best for the country. Yet on the third hand if it does happen perhaps the GOP will be destroyed and from it's smouldering ashes the Republican party of the 90's will be reborn and the Tea Party will kick the can. On the forth hand the results may be so disastrous there is no recovering from them.

It is all a game of inches but an inch or two the wrong way could be really bad even for those that think it will be good for them.

The largest crowd of the campaign so far for a Mitt Romney

In the photo, the folks cheering for Ryan do not appear to be 1%ers. Probably, these people are struggling middle-class folks. They lack a positive vision for this country.

pushing the GOP's vice presidential nominee to tears

      Unbelievable.

Where are Ryan's tears for the millions of Americans whose Medicare and Medicaid he will destroy?

      two simple words: "Hi mom."

What about all the "other moms" who because of inadequate "Medicare vouchers" will suffer and die?

"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, a little Spotted Cow, Leinie's, and some Miller,"

Ryan's above reaction is deception at work.

He is attempting to make himself appear to be middle class.

we believe in listening to people with dignity and respect."

If Romney's above statement was true, the GOP would not force the middle class and the poor to "carry the financial load" for the rich.

Romney and Ryan will usher in the failed and stale policies of the right.

The choice of whom to vote for on November 6, 2012 is clear:

The GOP and its absurd "Trickle/Down, Supply-Side economics" have robbed this nation blind! The wealthy have been given huge tax breaks. What have these elites done with their government largesse? Wall Street scammed all of America, the Big Banks sunk home owners with toxic mortgages, the Big Banks grabbed the homeowners' properties, the corporate fat cats outsourced our jobs to China, India and Pakistan and the elites were given our treasury. With the exception of the Clinton years, since Reagan became president, we have been running deficits.

The debt that Obama is struggling with was "an unenviable gift" from the right.

Obama was in Chicago yesterday spewing in a half empty venue. Seems the luster and excitement of Obama is wearing thin. We know the liberals will turn out for Obama, but will those independents that pushed him over the top in the last election? When Obama can't even fill a venue in his home state that is not an encouraging sign. The real campaign season has yet to begin, and when it does hype and blame will not be a winning slogan. Anymore then the Medicare issue, since Obama has cut the program by 700 billion and done nothing to save it. Romney and Ryan will be ready for the traditional Obama scare tactics.

        uaw,

it is the same as with Bush II. Romney would be the figure head and Ryan would be the brains behind him telling Romney what to say. If they win that is.

        social,

then I will humbly eat the pie I have sown. If he is elected and succeeds then that will be good for the nation. The telling tale will be the non-critical issues though. To me the ends do not justify the means. If there is too much collateral damage done to get the economy back in gear under Romney's plan it will minimize the efforts to fix things.

Obama can do the same given enough time and support from both sides and the same "but if" clause applies there.

OneOfTheSane its just hard not to laugh at people that vote against their own self interests.

The best part is they have no clue to what they are doing. If you make less than 250k and you vote republican your not doing yourself any favors.

It's called integrity. voting for your so-called 'own self interest' means you feel you are entitled to taking the hard-earned money of another person. Republicans believe in being able to keep what you earn. If you want more... go out and EARN IT YOURSELF.

Once again, liberals bring the class warfare to the table. So, lets get this straight, if you are white and vote against Obama, you are a racist. And if you make less than 250k, and still vote against Obama, you have no clue. Wow, please Big Government help me decide how to vote. I clearly cannot think for myself and unknowingly don't know whats best for me. I guess I should listen to Smitty and one of the sane.

Crown Royal is 3 year old Canadian whisky, while I don't have a problem with Canadian at least I can drink Canadian club 20 year old. Or 20 yr old Pappy van winkle bourbon. But with crown only 28.00 a bottle I guess you drink what you can afford as CC20 is 150 per bottle and pappy is 100.

I drank crown before I was old enough to have a job

Look those up before you look any more stupid about whisky

I don't know where you come from, pinhead, but Canadian Club is half the price of CR and CR is mixed from many whiskeys, most of which are at least 30 years old.

Seems you know as much about Canadian whiskey as you do politics... in other words... nothing.

And steak? Filet mignon melts in your mouth.

The last thing that melted in your mouth was... nevermind.

They also make the 20 which I drink and the 30 the 20 is 149.00 per bottle and the 30 is 299.

I know as a liberal you dont understand anything unless some other lib told you to but surely you can read the bottle, hell I am looking at 1 now of crown and it is 3 years old

stick to the cheap stuff skippy the good stuff is way to good for you, your simple mind would never appreciate it.

I cannot think of anything Ryan has ever offered that truly benefits the people of this country. Everything he wants to do benefits the wealthy, WAll Street/Health Insurance companies while he lives the high life on our taxpayer dollers. He gets Cadillac health insurance. We need to cut the benefits of these politicians who have made a life of living off the government. If Ryan wants smaller government he should step up to the plate and be a good example instead of a parasite working for the rich.

HIs medicare plan helps Health Insurance companies-hurts the American people

Privitizing social security helps Wall Street-hurts the American people.

Ryan wants more tax cuts for the rich paid for by the middle class.

          He can go to hell.

          • If that's your big concern I suggest you check out Ryan's voting record. From 2001 to 2006 he never saw a spending bill he didn't like. He was one of those Republicans in Congress who helped Bush bring us us two unfunded wars, two unfunded tax cuts, a massive, unfunded, new entitlement, the largest expansion of government since LBJ, the largest increase in energy prices in any 8 year period in our history, along with a net loss of jobs over 8 years all while turning the largest surplus of all times into the largest deficit of all times and leaving office with the worst economy since the depressions.

Repubs blocked giving health care to 911 responders for years. Repubs took advantage of every photo op with 911 responders, while wrapping themselves up in the flag, then blocked healthcare for these dying and sick 911 responders. Trying to block any improvement in the economy just to make Obama a one term president as they pledged. When called out on National TV show (John Stewart show) the repubs voted for healthcare the very next day with Dems. Interestingh though, some repubs still voted to block healthcare for 911 responders, because they hate America.

Hey the Democrats have a lot to celebrate. Obama can't fill a venue in his home state. People are realizing hype and blame is not a solution to anything. MediScare will not work for the president that has already cut 700 billion from the program. Obama is dusting off the balanced approach to cutting the deficit and saving Medicare and Social Security line AGAIN even though he used it in the last election and then did nothing. Help me here, what are Democrats celebrating?

So both the far right and the far left are all excited about Ryan. But presidential elections are determined by the presidential candidates, not the VP candidates. If a VP made a difference, Bush 41 would likely not have won in 1988. Probably the last time a VP made any difference in the outcome was in 1960 and that's still doubtful.

Don't forget about 2008. Republicans were all excited about Palin -- but her star quickly faded.

Obama can still lose several swing stated and win while Romney has to just about run the table. That reality hasn't changed.

In the last six years the Democrats have had the House of Representatives for 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 and the Republicans have only had the House of Reps for 2011 and 2012. The Democrats had the White House in 2009 and 2010 and had a filibuster proof majority in 2009. The Democrats have had the Senate for the Last six years. When Bush was President in 2007 and 2008 he was a Lame duck President because the Dems controlled the House and Senate.

When you've had 2/3rds of the power for the last six years and for two of those six years you've had 3/3rds of the power and for one of those years a filibuster proof majority don't you think you should act like an adult and take your "Fair Share" of the Responsibility instead of blaming every one else?

Why don't you get your facts straight? Ryan had a job working for his father. Romney got his start using the trust fund set up by his father. So, both have had private sector jobs - they've just never had to submit a resume, sit for an interview or work in a condition where they could lose their livelihood.

As a conservative, I'm a little bit sick of the GOP running these clowns. Why can't the GOP run someone that fights for conservative values and not just corporate values?

Our biggest problem in this country isn't obama or romney, democrats or republicans. It is that the people who could solve our massive problems would never want to run for office or deal with those crooks in Washington.

In the last six years the Democrats have had the House of Representatives for 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 and the Republicans have only had the House of Reps for 2011 and 2012. Dear Rick OKC:

Obama lectured on constitutional law at the Universtity of Chicago.

Darth Cheney created a lie by resurrecting the Nigerian yellowcake debunked data. Then he outed Valerie Plame in revenge and let Scooter Libby take the fall. Bush refused to pardon Libby because he knew the truth - Cheney started the war with fabricated evidence.

All of your other points show how foolish you are. The dems had a 60 seat majority, but they also had Ben Nelson, a very ill Ted Kennedy, and Joe Leiberman. All they needed was for one of those to fail to vote or vote the other way and the repubs filibustered - since 2007, a record 360 times.

Paul Ryan...one of the 14 repubs who met the night Obama took office, to pledge against the economy, pledged to vote against every bill that would help Obama look good. Pledged to make Obama a one term president by pledging to vote against anything that would help the economy. Said they had to act like the Taliban, the insurgents . VOTING AGAINST AMERICA.......PAUL RYAN!

Paul Ryan, takes the oath of his office then takes the oath to King Norquist, like a traitor to his country, pledging to Norquist above the people who voted him into office, pledging to Norquist while throwing the Constitution in the dirt. 95% of repub politicians took that pledge and some are trying to back track now that elections are coming. People will make repubs pay because they pledged to King Norquist over their interests and the interests of the constitution.

new adventure called Bain Capital in 1984 was his concept.

Oh please - Bain wasn't Romney's concept, and he fully resisted the position until the deal was so sweet, there was absolutely no way he could be viewed as a failure.

Yet Romney stunned his boss by doing just that. He explained to Bain that he didn’t want to risk his position, earnings, and reputation on an experiment. He found the offer appealing but didn’t want to make the decision in a “light or flippant manner.” So Bain sweetened the pot. He guaranteed that if the experiment failed Romney would get his old job and salary back, plus any raises he would have earned during his absence. Still, Romney worried about the impact on his reputation if he proved unable to do the job. Again the pot was sweetened. Bain promised that, if necessary, he would craft a cover story saying that Romney’s return to Bain & Company was needed due to his value as a consultant. “So,” Bain explained, “there was no professional or financial risk.” This time Romney said yes. http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/02/mitt-romney-201202

Wisconsin? Say, isn't that where the unions spent millions on a recall election to get rid of Walker? Guess it is 'better luck next time' season? Obama is one and done, unless he manages with the help of little lapdog Holder, to steal the elections.

People are tired and depressed and weary of the Obama negativity. There was a collective release of pent-up frustration and negativity when Ryan was announced. At least Romney is focusing on what needs to be fixed rather than constantly running around campaigning, grabbing for cash, telling people they didn't do anything and it was the government who made them what they are.

People are tired of being talked down to, treated like simpletons and being told that the only thing that can save them is growing an even larger bureaucracy. Tax and spend and tax some more, Obama's mantra. That and fear. Whatever optimism he generated during his last campaign has vanished, four years of doldrums have taken their toll and the people, (Americans that actually care about America rather than wanting America to be a poor imitation of France) are ready for some fresh air.

          George PaulJones

Bush's wife appeared to be more the democratic party than the Republican party. That was what his "new tone" turned out to be.

Ted Kennedy wrote "no Child Left Behind"

The senior Prescription Drug program was about trying to take a democrat campaign issue off the table.

While he wanted changes to monitor the mortgage system, he still added a program to expand mortgage approval to the low income.

TARP was a program that Democrats seem to do on a smaller scale. They haven't complained about it since and use it quite well.

The failure to recognize that so many of these programs are things democrats want makes a box of rocks look pretty smart.

Should be interesting when Ryan's mother who lives off Social Security and Medicare in the State of Florida becomes better known. As if anyone other then a liberal is going to believe Ryan would toss her under the bus. Funny how 60 minutes didn't air that part in their interview last night, but when it comes out seniors will notice. Seniors will also notice that so far only Obama has cut the Medicare program, and to the tune of 700 billion. Ryan offered a plan to save Medicare, while Obama cut it and has left it on the path toward bankruptcy. No doubt Florida has been handed to Obama, if everyone ignores the facts.

And Ryan is an idiot that would kill America for more tax cuts for himself and Mitt. Maybe that would be smart for himself but what about America the land that we are suppose to love. You remember patriotism, the reason why republicans wear flag pins.

Catholic church dumped Obama. Also the black christain ministers did the same. They are telling their congregations NOT to vote. He will also lose votes with his stand on gay marriage.

And even if a snowballs chance in hell Obama does get reelected, what does he plan to do with a republican senate and house. Do you people really want a lame duck president? I hope not. Look what happened to Bush when he was a lame duck. Democrats in congress screwed him and the country just to gain power, and now that they have had it for 6 yrs now, what have they done for the COUNTRY? I am not talking about the poor, or the gays, or any special interest group. Has he ended the wars? Has he made any progress to make our country energy independent? Has he lowered unemployment? Has he decreased the deficit? He promised all these things and so far he has done none of them. He has done great at blaming republicans, but that is still on him, he is the leader and he needs to find compromises. He has proven he is unable to work with people unless they totally agree with him. Democrats did the same crap to Bush and the man never complained.

All the accomplishments of Bill Clinton are gone with Obama. A real shame.

This is Wisconsin. The cows in half the counties far outnumber the citizens. 10,000 would be about 3% of the population in his district, and his district stretches half way across Wisconsin.

Obama pulled in 50,000 in St Louis a city of 2.8 Million or about 1.5% of the population.

              It's batten down the hatches.

              Meaning: To prepare for trouble.

The securing of property, especially the covering of it with protective sheeting, is called 'battening down'. It has a nautical origin and 'battening down' of walkways and hatches was done on ships when bad weather was expected.

I will await your answer, because Obama appears to have no plan other than desperately trying to assassinate his opponents character in hopes of being re-elected.

When will Obama have a budget ? We are $16 trillion in debt with no plan !

Obviously, this one didn't listen to a word of Sandra Fluke's testimony. Note to idiotic Limbaugh-neanderthals that think birth control pills sole use is for birth control - it is used to treat a variety of medical issues. But then, being chauvinistic pigs, you wouldn't know that, would ya. Proof positive human reproduction must be taught in public education.

@Sane - would be hysterical to see the quick change in attitude if birth control were outlawed, and the beer buyers had to become responsible for every beer baby born to college daddies. No doubt, birth control pills would be mandatory within a year.

TWO MAJOR ASPECTS OF THE THE PAUL RYAN PLAN....Which Mitt endorses.

Put all the social security taxes in Wall Street accounts and let Goldman manage your money – your benefits will be cut by 40%.

Take the Medicare taxes you paid and give them to "for profit" insurance companies – you get a voucher for about 60% of the current cost of your care.

Benito Mussolini as all dictators seem to do get their power by first appearing as socialists. Once they consolidate their power, the do whatever they please.

IF you don't believe me, read all of Marx and Lenin. What they describe as the route to Communism is really a form of socialism.

The easiest way to control people is first give them small things they want and promise more.

                Paul AS,

Do you even know what NAZI means?!!! Fascism and Socialism are not opposites. Fascism is a type of Socialism. Auf Deutsch NAZI means “Nationalsozialismus” which means Nationalist Socialism in English. The NAZIs espoused and carried out a program of merging the state (government) with business. I find the nationalist component of NAZIism repugnant as well!

They believed that all power and authority in society should be monolithic and should be controlled to benefit the “whole” rather than protect individual rights. They did not believe in individuals, but rather grouped all individuals into groups – thus the Holocaust! These beliefs do indeed resemble Obama’s beliefs – and many other Americans. I will oppose these beliefs with every fiber and every bone in my body. I will fight and die for my freedom, which is inalienable, and cannot be taken from me – no matter the laws or tyrants that govern.

Uh, sorry expat, but Paul is correct.

Simply because the WORD socialist appeared in the expanded NAZI name does not prove that they were in any way socialist. They were NOT.

They sure are going a lot better than between 2001-2008. Talk about a disastrous Lost Decade. Below just discusses the massive financial disasters. It doesn't even address terrorist attacks that should have been avoided, false wars, massive government overspending. Wow .. let's return to that debacle.

All in all, the first decade of this new century was probably not what most investors were expecting and, although there were valuable lessons to be learned, most would be happy if it just got tucked away in the history books.

Larry - Pay attention. Wisconsin started out with Obama at a 10 point Plus lead. The latest poll and it is a Likely voter poll says Obama up only 4. Ryan brings wisconsin in.

The left is saying Romney loses Florida, but if Florida takes Rubio from 10 points down to a solid victory, they will like Ryan too.

The Left says that Virginia is gone. Obama won Virginia by a thousand votes, but put Republican Governor McDonald in solidly 2 years later.

The only thing Ryan could have done better was be a Buckeye for his education, but Miami of Ohio isn't bad. Ohio will edge closer to Romney.

Why am I confident of this. It was leaked from the Romney camp that extensive polling was done in the key states. Ryan gives him a good boost in enough of them or they wouldn't have picked him.

Florida is going to go solidly for Obama, now that seniors are turning against Ryan's plan to privatize medicare and give out coupons.

It's not a great sign of Romney, that even the first day VP bump can't help him lead in Wisconsin. Other than the GOP convention, this is Romney's best chance to help himself. It's not going well for him.

You'd better get your facts straight. The seniors are not going to "run" to Obama regarding Medicare. THE FACT IS THAT SENIORS 55 AND OLDER WILL HAVE NO CHANGE IN THEIR MEDICARE COVERAGE. Romney/Ryan will convey that message to the seniors of Florida and everywhere else in this country. It amazes me that you liberals are so clueless as to believe a man who lies every time he opens his mouth and who is an Alinsky disciple who is out to ruin our country. Keep him around and you'll see the destruction of America. His goals are to bankrupt the US ($16 TRILLION IN DEBT), control banking, take over companies (GM), limit our use of our own natural resources (Solindra $$$), weaken our military and take away our guns. These are all part of the Alinsky goals.

In Florida Quinnipiac gave democrats a 9 point edge over Republicans. Registration is pretty close to even for the two. Turnout in 2010 was a 3 point edge in favor of the democrats.

The poll numbers you quote are simply not the reality. remove the 6 point oversample and the two are tied.

Gerry - We can be sure that anything on Romney's tax returns will be legal since he and his CPA know that they might be scrutinized thoroughly by the ferrets at the IRS. In any case they can have no possible effect on the country as a whole.

We can't say the same for the Fast and Furious documents that Obama is hiding by Executive Privilege. Obama talks “transparency” and practices the most aggressive obscuration.

Apparently the documents relating to Fast and Furious are so damning to Obama that if they come to light he would not only lose the election, but might also be sent to prison.

Romney should release his college records, applications, and passport info. and then demand the same from Mr. Obama. We can start a new precedent.

Since we are told Barack Obama is the "smartest" President ever, it would be nice to see some evidence of that. How did he get into such pricey, fancy schools when he admitted that he grandparents were middle class and that he spent the last 2 years of high school doing drugs? By the way, how did he pay for those drugs? did he have a job?

Let's see if the liberals can pass a test:

                    Which is more relevant:

A: school records, med records, passport info, financial aid records of a man running for Pres of the US.

B: Tax records approved by the IRS of a sucessful man running for Pres of the US.

Hummmm... to tough for ya?? Thought so....

Come on we are not that stupid. Romney would not be hiding his taxes if he didn't have a very good reason to be hiding them.

Defend him all you want, but me I think Romney is a crooked coward until he proves otherwise. Romney's own father said anyone releasing just one year taxes could be rigged to lie to the voters and that is why Romney's dad released 12 years.

Now we have one year of Mittens rigged tax return and he refuses to release any more and the best part as always nothing is ever his fault, it is the fault of the big bad democrats who would pick on him.

Good grief, then you want us to believe that Mitt the twit is leadership material.

And Mitt required more than that from Pawlenty when Tim was on Mitt's VP list. If Mitt needs more, then we need to see more of Mitt's returns.

B, the answer has always been B.

Wow! Ryan is truly impressive! Frequently presidential candidates will pick a doofus like Biden as their running mate to so they can look good by comparison. Other times they will pick a VP just to bring in a particular segment of the electorate, as with Walter Mondale's choice of Geraldine Ferraro. The fact that Romney has chosen Ryan shows that he has a great deal of self confidence. More importantly, it shows that he is assembling a top-notch management team. As a businessman, he realizes that a tough challenge, like undoing Obama's mischief, will take the very highest quality team to accomplish.

Romney chose a running mate who is smart and tough and who can best help him fix the mess this country is in. Maybe bringing in votes in critical battlegrounds would have been a better choice, but it shows that his priorities are our country first; politics last. … Just the opposite of Obama.

The same holds true for America. It is time SOMEBODY gets America back into order! This whole financial toilet that all Americans went through and are still trying to deal with needs ACUTE ATTENTION. It is time to get a chief.

I don't know if Romney/Ryan is it, but I sure do know OBAMA isn't it!!

Back at ya. The sole and only purpose of business is to make a profit. Government should never make a profit. The purpose of a home is to give you a place to live. None of these are related - unless of course, you make the feeble claim that they all have bills to pay.

RedDev POS, I have never seen a successful business with a statement of purpose scope so narrow as to only include a profit. I will tell you this .... if a business is unable to sustain a profit, they will be OUT OF BUSINESS for good, and then NO ONE will have a job !

If our country continues to lose $1.3 trillion a year, the U.S. will be bankrupt and total financial chaoes will consume the entire world as we know it.

If you think the government "should never make a profit", then you have absolutely no understanding of budgets, debt and bankruptcy !! We are headed in that direction under Obama's failed leadership. Re-distributing wealth only goes so far .... until you run out of wealth to hand out.

We'd better have the courage to face the future-head on. Obama is ignoring the obvious as do many more liberal leaning types, who live, and vote for the socialist handout, and contribute little or nothing in return. His philosophy is if the credit card is maxed out, get another and use it to pay the minimum payment on the others (check it out, we only pay interest on the growing national debt, which continues to eat more and more percentage wise into the US budget). Eventually the interest will consume all income, and there is nothing left to spend on necessities, roads, defense, etc...guess what then-bankruptcy, and all those who want gimme's will get nothing-because there is nothing left. Better to bite the bullet now, make everyone realize that their only right is to speech and freedom of choice, and after that, they are on their own to make their own way. It is how this country became great, because people aspired to do better, and knew the only person who would make it happen were themselves.

And Kannin, I couldn't agree more. As for Gerry Daley, let the class warfare envy go. Let's see your tax returns...or do you pay any?

Maybe you have been asleep these last few years but out deficit was driven up by bush and cheney who declared that deficit didn't matter.

The republicans and Ryan voted for tax cuts, they started wars and then gave more tax cuts, drove up the deficit and were quite happy until President Obama was elected and then the deficit suddenly became the worst thing the democrats and President Obama had ever done.

Sorry nobody made it own their own, the middle class grew because of the educational opportunities provided by government.

You claim to believe in free speech and freedom of choice, but you are defending Romney who has pledged to take rights away from women and republicans who are taking our rights of speech away with voter suppression.

Whatever. I could care less what caused something so long as there is a way to fix it. Blame, deflection and weak excuses don't fix a problem, that only allows them to continue. The middle class grew because of capitalism, not government. Dear God, what have they been teaching in school these days?

How is someone who voted for TARP, the GM and Chrysler bailouts, No Child Left Behind, voted for the Iraq war, advocates for even more military spending, and has been in office for 13 years going to imbue Romney with conservative street cred? How will this help him get the vote of real advocates for small government, civil liberty, and fiscal responsibility? Paul Ryan suffers from the same issues that has plagued Romney throughout the primaries, a lack of credibility. According to the CBO, this budget people are talking about MIGHT have taken care of the deficit by 2040, but probably would have added about 4 trillion over the next ten years.

The budget mess we are in can not be fixed in just 10 years but needs to bend the curve or you tank the economy-Obama's budget does not bend the curve. The problem you have when Pelosi/Reed/Obama increased non-discretionary budgets by 25% when they got power. Need to slow the rate of growth of Federal programs to get spending down from the 25% of GDP that Obama has and back to where it is 18-20% which is our tax capacity

Gee, there is more than one way to skin that cat. Like, actually doing what the GOP/TP promised to American in 2010, and give us jobs, jobs, jobs. Reducing the unemployment rate would increase tax revenues, reduce the need for reliance upon welfare, food stamp, and unemployment programs, increase spending, and walla .. GDP fixed. But as we know, the only priority of the GOP/TP is to ensure Obama was stalled at every job creation effort so at this election, they could use the unemployment figure as an issue to campaign against Obama.

Sadly, the GOP/TP have proven to be the lowest form of human scum - holding millions of Americans hostage just to win an election.

It is about time the republicans took some responsibility for the damage they did to our economy instead of blaming President Obama as their excuse to take us back to the bush policies that broke our country to begin with.

Ryan voted to give the greedy banker a bail out, but now that it has come to the victims well it is time to get tough and punish those people who can't find jobs.

That is more than we can say for Mr. Obama. Lots of criticism from the left, but no solutions of their own. Heck, the Democratic Senate still can't propose and pass a budget in over 1200 days.

That does nothing to address the issues I highlighted. Ryan can offer all the ideas he wants, that doesn't change the fact that he's a hypocrite for railing against Democrat big government while advocating Republican big government, or explain his support of the bailouts that have become a cornerstone of the Republican offensive against Obama. Am I the only one who takes issue with this? Republican Governor Gary Johnson makes both of these guys look like radical leftists.

Harris Pavillion seats about 4,000 which is more than they expected, however unexpectedly, over 11,000 Romney/Ryan fans (according to the radio) showed up! They just moved a jumbotron and some speakers out into the parking lots and it was an amazing rally!!! Romney looked great, Ryan looked like he was having a lot of fun... It's a great ticket!!! Lots of energy and an unbelievable crowd!!!

I agree- I would like to see Gary Johnson in there. I would like to see some really good minds, with an eye on the Constitution. Time will tell just how serious Romney is- if he is honestly wanting to do right for America or not... we will watch the cast and crew.

                              Gloria,

He is a Mormon. Mormons have an obligation to God to do the right thing. Never trust a Mormon if you are a criminal. They may succumb to the greed, but then they will inevitably repent. I genuinely believe that Mitt Romney WANTS to do the right thing for America. The question is not about his intent, the question is whether he is really doing the right thing. His choice for vice president seems to indicate he is on the right track.

His choice for VP forgot to tell you all that he isn't a Republican, but a Libertarian. Viva Ayn Rand!!!
